5-0 out of 5 stars Faster processor in the user-reliable bargain-priced iMac G5
Apple is, quite simply, the best and most innovative computer manufacturer. A recent article in Consumer Reports identified Apple computers as the most reliable computers and PC Magazine user surveys have reached the same conclusion. Furthermore, PC Magazine regularly designates the iMac G5 as the best all around desktop computer. Now the ultra-reliable, user friendly iMac G5 computers all have faster G5 processors than last year's models.

Yes, most people use Windows-based PCs, but do you really want to be just another member of the PC herd -- with all of the problems and frustrations presented by Windows-based PCs (including regular virus attacks) -- or are you looking for a computer which is user friendly, seldom crashes, and is virtually impervious to viruses? If these virtues are more important to you than being one of the crowd, please seriously consider buying an Apple computer. This new iMac G5 is Apple's latest and fastest iteration of the innovative iMac series of compact, user friendly computers at reasonable prices. Like all G5-powered Apple computers this new iMac is a very fast computer -- more than twice as fast as a Pentium 4 with the same clock speed -- and has a state-of-the-art 64-bit processor. All computers will have 64-bit processors some day but very few PCs, except for Apple G5s, have them at this time. If you're looking for a fast, versatile, easy to use computer, want to stop worrying abut virus attacks, and are willing to try something off the beaten path, you'll love this elegant and now faster new iMac G5. If you want a larger monitor and even faster processor check out the 20" iMac G5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this is good
This digital camera isn't really mine though. My dad bought this camera last summer and this camera is pretty cool because it was voted on TIME Magazine that this camera was one of 2004's hottest and best technology. The picture quality is good and you can zoom in as far as you want to.You can also take videos but you may need a bigger Memory card if you want to take videos and pictures together.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Most Everything!Almost free!

MOST (the normal user) will not be disappointed! This is a cool small camera. If you want more power (7 megapixel) and a larger camera go to the Canon G6.This fits great in your pocket. The pictures are clear.Relatively easy to use. A good place to start - unless you are wanting to shell out the big bucks.I only wish it came with larger capacity memory card. But they are getting cheaper everyday.1GB seems to be getting cheaper everyday.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great until something goes wrong
I bought the Canon S500 just before a trip of a lifetime earlier this year. This camera was brilliant while travelling around Australia Asia and the Middle east. The scenic photos I took came out beautifully the colours were vibrant, I couldn't complain. Ironically I make it back home with camera but that's when it all goes wrong.
The camera was knocked off a side table onto a carpet floor; the lcd screen still came up but that was about it, no photos were taken, none of the buttons to change the settings worked, you couldn't play back images or anything. Sending it off to Canon didn't help either. Although Camera was still within the warranty, it would cost a minimum of $150 (no matter what is wrong with these cameras it seems 150 bucks is the standard fee) to fix as the knock to the camera wasn't covered in the warranty. It just didn't seem worth it to pay that much to fix a camera when I could get a new one for a similar price.
Prior to owning the S500 I'd owned the S300. This camera lasted about 3 years (I upgraded to the S500 for the better megapixels and new functions) and it was not as delicate as the S500, it went all over the world and wasn't always in a camera case and operated perfectly, it's ownly fault was it was superceded by newer models. I know camera's are delicate machines but I expected the S500 to hold up a bit better than this. I hope the SD500 has had some of these kinks ironed out

4-0 out of 5 stars A few downfalls
OK, I will not go into alot of the technical details that others have seemed to cover. What I will add is that for this much money I would have expected it to be able to be hooked up to my comouter and come with the editing software (only available on their top of the line models). Not that it is hard to download an editing program BUT....for this money I would have expected a bit more!!
The carrying case they suggest is a bit big if you are only going to carry the camera, it is ok for all the items but i suggest the personal over the shoulder bag for just a day outing of movies

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice camera which uses mini DVDs
I needed a new video camera when my old and heavy full size VHS camcorder quit working.I researched the options and decided on this Sony DCR DVD92 Handycam. It is very easy to operate. There is an "ease" button that once pushed makes the handycam a joy to use.I use it to record my kids and family events. It will only record onto the mindisks which cost about $4 per minidisk (this does NOT record to full size DVDs).You just place a minidisk in and push a button to format (takes a couple seconds only)then the handycam is just point and shoot.I record short videos (like singing happy b-day, or opening presents, or pets playing). On the ease setting these are automatically placed on the minidisk as separate entries. These can immediately be played back on the small screen on the handycam. The images are very clear on the screen.Audio is good as well. When the disk is full you finalize the disk by pushing several buttons and letting the camera sit for about three minutes. The minidisks play back on my regular DVD player.Check your DVD player for a smaller slot on the disk tray.If there is a smaller slot, the minidisks will probably play in that player.I have not found one that did not play the minidisks. The playback is good, and you can select different scenes. It really is quite easy and I like the handycam very much.(...)

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH
This camera is by far the best sony camera on the whole market! All of its features work awesomely and i bought it here at Amazon. Just because the price is lower doesnt mean the product is cheap! If you like video taping things a whole lot then this camera is for YOU! This is comming from a teen who loves to take pics and edit videos and i love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice camcorder
I have never used/purchased a mini camcorder before. This one was very easy to setup and understand. The video quality seems to be very good.I have not used the camera/photo option yet. The DVD played on my DVD player without any problem. The touch screen menu is super easy to use. I don't plan on editing my video's, or downloading them onto my PC, so I went with this model.Pretty much, using a DVD-R, it's load, record, finalize. That's it.Then pop it into your DVD player to watch.I guess the limitation is only 30 minutes of recording time on the DVD, but that's plenty for me.Cost of the DVD-R's is about $3.00 each, so that is bearable for me as well.I played around with a DVD-RW.Rewriting the disk was easy, and the VR mode allows you to do some editing if you need to.I would have purchased this item on Amazon, but didn't because I was unsure if I'd be happy with it, so I purchased from a local retailer for about $50 more than I could of from Amazon. I paid $570 for it at the retailer.

All and all, I am very pleased with my purchase thus far.I did however order an extra battery and battery charger through Amazon saving myself about $20 from what it would of cost me at the store.

Again, I am not an expert on camcorders, nor have I used anything comparable before, so for me, I have nothing to complain about by comparison. Some of the limited reviews available on the Internet say that this is still a developing technology, and may be worthwhile reading if you already own a mini camcorder, or are looking for something that may be a bit more flexible, or has more features, or better resolution. I can only say this camcorder works exceptionally well for my needs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to learn
My 8 year old learned to use this within 5 minutes. It has a touch screen with easy to find controls.Pop the mini DVD in--format--record--finalize--and play on DVD player. This model does not have a USB connection to your computer or a remote. It is really designed for minimal editing--tape and go.Buy an extra battery and lots of mini DVDs as they only last 30 minutes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the PSP
If you have the PSP and a little extra cash, it's pretty much mandatory that you get a Memory Stick Duo card. The 32MB that comes in the PSP Value Pack is just a joke -- unless you plan to use the PSP strictly for gaming only, in which case you don't need to buy a larger-capacity memory card.

(I suspect Sony includes a small Memory Stick Duo card in the Value Pack to discourage people from copying movies to the PSP.Just my wild guess.)

If, however, you want to take full advantage of the PSP multimedia experience, a larger-capacity Memory Stick Duo is just a must.Consider yourself lucky, for just six months ago a 1GB Memory Stick Duo (MSD for short) would have made you $300-$400 poorer.Kudos to Sony for bringing the price down to something we mere mortals can afford. But curses to Sony for not using an industry standard format like Secure Digital.

Anyway, you have pretty much two choices when it comes to 1GB MSD cards.Either a Sony, or a Sandisk.Lexar (another company) is supposed to be selling it, too, but I haven't seen theirs in the retail channel, so the choice comes down to either Sony or Sandisk.

As I mentioned many times in my previous reviews, I still have lingering doubts about Sandisk's quality control, as in the past I had no less than two Sandisk flash memory cards fail on me when I needed reliability the most (i.e., a "Kodak moment" for my digital camera). The price difference between a Sony 1GB MSD adn a Sandisk seems pretty small.BTW, if you see a 1GB MSD for over $150 in a store, you'd be overpaying, so come back to Amazon and get it here.

The popularity of the PSP does make both the Sony and the Sandisk 1GB MSD cards hard to find, so maybe you just want to grab whichever one that's in stock.I myself am willing to pay a bit extra for Sony's reliability, but other people have had luck with Sandisk MSD's, so don't let my experience discourage you from getting a Sandisk. It's just that with the Sony memory card, you're unlikely to have any problems, assuming you don't bite or let your dog nibble on the card.

1GB is a lot of memory. Most PSP games use 600KB-800KB for game save data.MP3 tunes encoded at the most common 128kbps bit rate runs about 1MB/minute, so a 4-minute song will occupy 4MB.Video files are harder to summarize since there are so many different encoding bitrates and options (e.g., 15fps or 30fps, mono or stereo or surround sound).I encode at 384kbps/15fps/mono, and one hour of video takes about 150MB.If you want to encode at the more fluid 512kbps/30fps/stereo, expect about 300MB per hour.In short, you should have no trouble fitting more than one full-length movies on this.Feel free to e-mail me at gadgester @t hotmail if you have any questions.

Because this MSD card is also "MagicGate-compatible", meaning it supports Sony's digital rights management technology, you can use it in Sony's digital audio players that take Memory Stick Duo or the full-sized Memory Stick. An adapter is included in the package so if you have Sony gear that only takes the original, full-sized Memory Stick (e.g., most Sony miniDV camcorders and digital cameras), you can stick the smaller Memory Stick Duo into the adapter and then insert the adapter into the gizmo. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Common sense
here is a review somone put on a few days ago.

psp.......is ok, June 15, 2005
A Kid's Review

"gamers who play psp's are probbably going to become game designers and people who play ds well become doctors."

That is the dummest thing I have ever heard. That's all I've got to say, no comment to that except it was just stupid.

4-0 out of 5 stars chand the man
the best system with the best game what more could you ask for.wipeout pure is aweso me because you surf the internet and the graphics are amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
This product is amazing. It definitely is the best handheld on the market. I have only one complaint about it, the placement of the analog nub can make your hand cramp after 15 minutes of playing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great system! Now stop whining you picky people
First off, the psp is the most remarkable gaming device ever. It plays movies,mp3s,and displays photos. To top it off it has ps2 grafics. All of the reviewers that gave this 1 or 2 stars want to make a dumb excuse of why it's bad.Such as:"It's boring".WHAT????????????????????????????????????? Another person said:Nintendo made video games first.Does it matter?THat's like saying Henry Ford made the first mass produced car!!!!!!!!!!!It doesn't matter.Ford isn't the best car company and nintendo isn't the best game company. Now to get on with my review. The system itself is awesome!!!!!!!!It has stereo speakers,a lcd screen,an analoge stick, and in the near future,it will have a web browser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Personaly,I think people love to complain."Boo Hoo, the case it comes with is too soft."The memory card is too small."MY PSP has a tiny little dead pixel in the corner of the screen. SO WHAT????? That's like saying:why doesn't my car come with free gas?HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If Sony sold the PSP with no battery or accesories that it would be cheaper than the ds!The only advantage to the ds is that it comes with a free piece of plastic to touch the screen with!So make the right descision and buy this.It beats the ds by a mile.

5-0 out of 5 stars PSP
This is a great item for gamers like me.Also if you like movies and music, then this is a good add-on.However, a portable DVD player and agood MP3 player are the same price as the PSP.I would not reccommend buying this item for the music and movies although they are awesome quality.
I have Spiderman2, XXX, Pirates of the Carribean, Hitch and Daddy Day Care.Soon, I will get The Grudge, Napoleon Dynamite and others which are coming out on this item.At BJ's there DVDs are $12 each so don't be fooled by the $20+ price tags at other websites. They are DVD quality, but I am not spoiled by a plasma screen TV at home, so these movies look even better than a DVD player.Sound is good also. The only complaint that I have with the movies is that in one full charge, you can't watch 2 movies without charging again. However, this is much more portable than a portable DVD player which makes up for the lack of battery life.
The games are near PS2 quality in the graphics department, but their UMD can't hold near as much memory as the PS2 discs. There are no franchises in sports games, but season modes in nearly all sports games. The adventure games or games that involve career modes which are shorter than their PS2 origonals. However, for some reason, Tony Hawk ahs 4 more levels than the PS2 title.Weird.I am impressed with all 6 of my PSP games (THPSU2, NFL Street 2, NBA Street, MVP baseball, Twisted Metal, Wipeout Pure.)Wipeout Pure is probably the best PSP game in my opinion.I also plan to get Midnight Club III, Burnout, Gran Turismo, Madden, Stacked (suposed to be best poker game ever; also coming on PS2 and XBOX) and others when they are released later this year.
I was skeptical about buying a memory stick for PSP but am glad I did.I bought a 256 mb for $50.I am happy because a 128mb MP3 player is $60 and can hold half as much.I can hold 70 songs even though they say only 64 songs. The sound is awesome and battery lasts for nearly 15 hours with the sound on high and the screen off.
Hope I helped. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars iPod photo 30G did not fit
Great concept but...One previous review stated that the ipod photo did not fit.I found the same thing.I contacted Altec Lansing by phone and despite removing the adapter my ipod would still not sit in the dock.It seemed "off center"and would not seat. The tech continued to tell me that it would fit, no luck.

4-0 out of 5 stars MiniIPod system on the go
This puppy also works great with 40GB IPod too as we found out recently on an evening of Frank Caliendoimpressions and jokes. The ultra compact remote is way cool, almost futuristic-JamesBondish in sleek design. Plug your Ipod inon the desk and you almost expect a hologram to appear and start speaking to you. Seriously though this is one little impressive unit. This is a nice accessory for the IPod that looks good and sounds pretty decent, not great mind you. For the less discerning listener this is a perfect system for being on the go. In some ways the fact that the sound won't blast the doors of a room is a blessing. I bought this forone ofmy sons and he likes it to take into every room to play outloud . When he goes to visit grandma he takes his little system. He loves to take it to the bathroom for showering and I don't have to tell him to turn it down! The latest version (im3)does have DC so that takes care of the battery complaint. However rechargeable batteries do the trick for places without DC. The carrying case is very cool, a sleek little lightweight case that will protect the surface with velcro closures . It is only slightly padded(wouldn't want to bulk it up!) so care should be given while your Ipod is stowed away or traveling. Total size is about 10''x 6" which is amazing since it is super thin as well. I would recommend this little package for a cool little addition to your IPod to take your tunes on the road. Besides it looks so darn cool on a desk when you dock your IPod and let your music library play on shuffle.

4-0 out of 5 stars for using with 30g ipod photo
The instruction maual is not clear on this, but you must remove the factory installed 40g adapter in order to seat the ipod photo in the dock.Otherwise the speakers works fine as an office radio for me.Soundwise it is certainly no stereo system, but that is not what I was looking for.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT Compatable with iPod photo!
My 40gb iPod photo DOES NOT FIT in the dock.Altec Lansing tech support claims by removing the installed adapter it will fit, but in fact IT DOES NOT...Altec Lansing also claims that the iM3c is compatable with the iPod photo.Amazon apparently does not carry the iM3c only the iM3...

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU HAVE AN iPod Photo!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars WORKS Greatif you want a portable system for travel
I love this inmotion set up it is perfect for travel here and over seas. Sound is great only destorts at higher volume. It is perfect for hotels and bedrooms. The remote is a little quirky but figure 50 dollars for just a remote if you buy any other porduct. I would recommend the im3 to those looking for portablity and quailty sound for size matters people

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Quality Camera A+++++
I purchased this camera as a upgrade from my first one and I LOVE it! It takes wonderful high quality pictures! It is so easy to use with some very cool features! I love the picture zoom, also takes great close up shots! If you are considering this camera, go for it!! You will love it! Ton's of accessories are available, very nicly made camera!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good value camera to learn advanced photography
I purchased this camera about a month ago and have taken at least a hundred photos with it so far.I'm still learning the technical jargon of photography and it'll probably take a few more months to learn everything this camera can do.

It's not going to fit in your pocket, but it will fit in a small camera case you can put on your belt or over your shoulder. A lot of people scoff at anything that isn't a digital SLR, but their size makes them too cumbersome to carry around if you like to go out in the "bush" with you. With 7.1 megapixels, you will get sharp pictures that can be blown up large enough to put hang on the wall (perhaps 11X17 or larger).Remember, you won't see much if any difference on a computer screen because the most CRT's resolution is less than 7 megapixels. It's only when you zoom in that you notice the increased detail.

If you're an amateur photographer that wants to learn photography and produce high-quality images, you can get this camera for under $500 bucks.I suggest at least buying the 58MM adapter for the wide angle lens or telephoto, because you can then buy polarizing filters, which are essential for taking excellent photos on sunny days.I think that the most overated stat on these types of cameras is the zoom. It's occaisionally useful to have some zoom capability, but most of the time you want a wide angle shot to show the largest field of vision possible, especially for scenery shots.

If you really want 5x optical zoom or more, don't buy this camera, but make sure you get one with image stabilization.

I even saw it for sale for $360, but that deal actually sounded too good to be true!Search around and find the best price-I paid about $480 bucks. BUT do read the store reviews and make sure you're dealing with a reputable place.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Camera Choice
This is my third Canon digital camera, an upgrade from my Elf S400, a very nice camera that took very nice pictures. But the G6 blows it out of the water in terms of features and picture quality. Coming from the film school, I have not seen many digitals that could replace Kodak or Fuji slide film... until now. One picture on automatic out of the box made me a believer... superb! Flash shots are perfectly exposed edge to edge even in very dim light. And the list of features will take me years to learn, although many are similar to 35mm film boxes. Taking a poor picture with this camera would require either a defective unit or body movement while shooting. The included remote control takes care of hand shake blur.... a winner of a feature. I compared sample pictures on line from this camera, the Pro1, and the Sony DSCV3. Of course, I read all the reviews as well. The pictures from the G6 were the same or slightly better than from the Pro1 and significantly better than the Sony. This camera is a real deal for what you get... recommended without reservation for someone who wants more than a point-and-shoot model, although it does this extremely well. If is also for the person who enjoys a learning curve and who does not mind a camera with a bit extra bulk and weight... it is like a compact SLR film camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars really good!!!
I owned previously a Canon S45. I decided to move up a little bit as my interest in ohotograpy increased. I own this G6 now for about 4 months. Very user friendly and picture quality is perfect. They could put a little bit more zoom though.
The only con to me is the lens adapter if you want to use filters or other lenses.
An almost SLR...

5-0 out of 5 stars Powershot G6 - a Great Option to Expensive SLRs
I had been using a Powershot A20 (2 megapixel) camera for several years and decided to upgrade to a digital camera that gave me the ability to learn and use shutter speeds, lenses, etc.I didn't want to spend $1,000 or more on a camera that required instant knowledge of basic photography (it's been many years since I tried to manually focus). The G6 has provided everything I wanted.By using the various modes (Auto, P, Tv, Av and M), I can take point & shoot shots for general use and still have the option to use manual controls to learn the best shutter speed for water shots, etc.The 4x optical zoom is fine for most shots, and with the 1.75x teleconverter you increase that to 7x.The macro and supermacro setings are absolutely fantastic - I've got shots of dew drops on flowers that are amazing. There are many other settings in the menu and function areas worth looking at.The vivid setting punches up colors (perfect for flowers, etc. but be careful to change it back when shooting people), the ND filter is great when you want to use slow shutter speeds, and the flash sync allows you to change when the flash goes off.One of the coolest abilities of this camera is the ability to shoot in Jpeg and, during the review period right after taking the shot, push the flash button and your shot is converted into RAW.This means that you don't need to take all your shots in RAW (just in case you get that one special shot). As RAW reduces your storage capacity by more than half, this is wonderful. The battery life is one of the best - I can get about 3-5 days of average use (50-80 photos/day) on one battery charge.I bought one extra battery and I haven't found myself without power yet.I use one til it dies, pop in the other and finish my day, then that night I charge the first (it only takes 90 minutes) and the next day I'm ready to go again. No more pockets filled with disposable batteries.
In respect to the included 32mb card, you definitely want more (512mb minimum) - however, in the world of digital cameras, 32mb included is pretty good. Many still include an 8mb card only.
Memory storage at the Large/Superfine (3072 x 2304) setting are as follows:

32mb - 9 shots
64mb - 19
128mb - 40
256mb - 81
512mb - 163
1gb - 327
2gb - 645

Note that these numbers are affected by additional settings such as landscape, wide angle, zoom, macro and supermacro, in addition to the complexity of the shot composition (landscape vs. single flower). However, in my usage, I have found them to be accurate enough to bank on.
All in all, this camera has provided me with a great "point and shoot" camera with great advancement potential. In addition, it actually assists me in learning photographic techniques (use the Tv mode and manually set your shutter speed, the camera automatically sets the best matching aperture setting - after a while you start to get a feel for what combinations work best). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware! Speaker broken-No JBL Customer Support
The sound is decent for its small size, the best among its competitors including the much more expensive Bose iPod speaker. After 6 months of operation, the speaker no longer works. The touch volume controls appear to be shorting out. The JBL website says that this is a recognized problem, but when I entered the serial number, the website reported that my unit was unaffected!I emailed customer service and have not received a response 72 hours later. There is a customer service number that is nearly impossible to find: 516-255-4JBL.I will call tomorrow but I bet it will be hours on hold--the company made every possible effort to hide the number on its website.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sounds fine, but re-charger dock stopped working
I didn't have the chip problem, and I like the sound that goes with this little doughnut, but I have been troubled to discover that the re-charger dock no longer works while the iPod is docked. It conked out after a couple of months of use, so now I'm back to plugging the iPod into the computer or the wall socket in order to keep it charged. Perhaps this product wasn't ready for prime time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for frequent travelers, but....
Terriffic unit with great sound.Super for making life in hotels a bit more home-like.

However, has some potentially meaningful shortcomings:

1.The power adapter is unusually large and heavy (weighs more than the On-Stage unit itself) and it doesn't work with 220 volt electrical systems. Therefore, to use in Europe and Asia, you'll need a step-down voltage transformer, thus adding to the weight and bulk of the total package.

2.When used with a remote control (e.g. Griffin i-Click), volume commands don't work if unit is in the charging dock. For volume control to work, must use provided audio-in cable to connect iPod to On-Stage unit.

Bottom line, though, these are fairly minor considerations whencompared to the overall benefits of the unit -- primarily compact and attractive form factor, good clear sound with respectable bass and not having to wear earphones in order to enjoy your iPod.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD PRODUCT
I bought my speakers in March and have had absolutely no problems with them. I would not recommend any other speakers due to the output and versatility of these speakers. My serial number showed a non-defective chip so I send my sorrows for all the other people unable to enjoy their iPod, but hey they work great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Sound from a Small Portable Unit
I LUV this speaker! It's small and light enough for easy travel yet packs a good sound punch! I keep it by my bedside for charging my iPod each night and listening to music before falling asleep. Easy to transport to different rooms and supply unlimited music for parties. I highly recommend for it's versatility and sound quality. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Take your entertainment center with you wherever you roam with the HP Pavilion ZD8110US Media Center Notebook PC. Record your favorite TV programs and watch them on the widescreen 17-inch LCD monitor, view photoslideshows with your own soundtrack, or watch DVD movies, and control it all with the included remote. The ZD8110US can also unleash your digital creativity with the multiformat, dual-layer DVD/CD burner and included Image Zone photo editing and management software. This multimedia notebook features a super-fast, hyper-threaded 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 100 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, 54g wireless connectivity, multiformat memory card reader, and a powerful video/graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated RAM.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive is one of the largest available in today's notebooks, enabling road warriors and multimedia enthusiasts more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
  • Processor: "The hyper-threaded 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 630 processor allows a single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a large 2 MB L2 cache and a blazingly fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)

A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. This results in more efficient software performance (such as faster reaction times in gaming applications) and enhanced multitasking."

  • Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB, dual channel at 400 MHz) is a very good start for this multimedia-centric notebook, but you'll want to take full advantage of the 2 GB capacity (2 x 1 GB) to maximize the multimedia.
  • CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the ZD8110US multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard keyboard with scroll bar and integrated numeric keypad, and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.
Screen, Graphcs and Sound
The ATI Radeon X600 SE is a high-end video card, powerful enough to run one large virtual screen across two displays. It features 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, S-Video and the higher-fidelity DVI connections out, and PCI Express x16 support, which enables graphics to process faster. The 17-inch WXGA+ high-definition widescreen LCD has a 1440 x 900--pixel resolution that provides a 45 percent larger picture than a 15-inch screen. This glossy BrightView screen is also easily viewable in direct sunlight and has a wide viewing angle. For audio, this notebook features 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro compatible audio and internal Harman Kardon speakers. It features a volume control and mute buttons.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The ZD8110US has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. You get a good offering of connectivity options, including super-fast USB 2.0 and Firewire:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video out
  • 1 IR (infrared) port
  • 1 Expansion Port 2 connector
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
  • 6-in-1 memory card reader (compatible with Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). With the 250 GB hard drive, you'll be able to record and store up to 180 hours of video programming. It's compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV and antenna inputs, and it includes an FM tuner.

The included HP Image Zone Plus photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.

Dimensions and Weight
At 9.4 pounds, the ZD8110US isn't the most easily portable notebook. It measures 15.7 x 11.4 x 1.96 inches (L x W x H).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great consumer-level point-and-shoot digital camera
If you are just an amateur photographer that is either finally switching from analog to digital or just want a decent camera to take on family vacations or school projects, this is a great camera. It is small, lightweight, and does just about anything you could possibly need it to do. It won't take pictures of hummingbirds feeding across a forest bed, but it will take a decent photo of the grand canyon. The quality of the 3x optical zoom is really good, but the picture is sacrificed slightly as you try to artifically enhance it with the digital zoom. The battery life is good enough to take on extended trips from your hotel or on a hike without having to carry around a charger or spare batteries. If you plan on taking lots of high quality large photos, you will need to get a larger memory stick (64 MB will work, 128 MB even better), but the memory stick it comes with will be enough to photograph your child's birthday party as long as you download the photos onto your computer afterwards. At 5.1 MegaPixels, this camera will pick up hairs on a persons head and it will even be able to define a flea in the hair. 5.1 MP is enough to make clear 8x10 prints. There are 6+ MegaPixel cameras out there, but at the consumer level there is really no point in spending the money on one (7.2 MP won't come in handy unless you are making 15x20 prints or are a student taking pictures through a microscope or a telescope--it is more of a prosumer level) All around, while Sony's camera lenses may not compare with Canon or Olympus, Sony makes up for it with their superior knowledge of how to make a great consumer digital device and turn it into a decent digital camera. It is a great value for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good camera for the price
I bought the Sony DSC-W5 few weeks ago, so far I'm quite pleased with it. The choice was between this one and the Canon SD-400, both are 5MP as I think that's the optimum resolution for my use. Looks like both cameras have similar picture quality with a slight edge for the Canon.

So what decided me for the Sony? Mainly these 4 reasons:

- I have a Canon G2, which is slow and bulky, but most of all, after 3 years of use the image quality is degradating. Paid $800 for it 3 years ago, one would expect a longer product life.

-Battery. Canon does not know how to measure battery power, it goes from full to empty in 5mn, that's very frustrating as you have to fully charge the battery the day before you're going to use your camera. Sony gives you a detailed view of the charge left, and even in the case you run out of it, you can plug in 2 plain AA batteries.

- Sony is fast, very fast.

- Sony has a large bright LCD, it's a pleasure to take shots and look at the pictures on the 2.5' lCD.

I found the sony very easy to use, the settings are easily accessible and are memorised through power ups (which is sometimes bothersome as you have to check all your settings before using the camera at the begining of the day)

About blurry pictures, on something like 100 pictures I only had a few that were blurry. Mainly if you press the button half way and wait for the camera to autofocus, you'll get a good picture. Also the flash is required as soon as the luminosity dims a bit. The only defect I could find is on the autofocus, I believe the balanced autofocus feature gets confused on some situations, even simple ones like a mountain landscape with no tree in front.

Setting the autofocus to center may solve the problem. Also Sharpness should be set to "+" otherwise you get very soft images.

Conclusion: A great product for the price, picture quality is fantastic (most of the times), the LCD is a charm to look at.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Camera!
This has been the best digital camera i have ever bought! the quality of the picture that it takes enables me to pictures that i am unable to take with a high quality slr. the video quality is not that great but if you are serious about still pictures this is a great investment for someone starting out their digital experiance!

5-0 out of 5 stars Versatile, quick, big screen
I'm enjoying my new W5. I've had lots of fun taking pictures in every kind of circumstance I can think of.
The camera has the capability of a very long exposure, which I've enjoyed immensely, and the night shots I've taken are super.
I enjoy remodeling. The W5 has a 30mm screw mount, and I purchased the wide-angle lens at my local Sony Style store. I am very happy that I have the capability to add lenses and/or filters.
The person who complains that the "waving hand" shows when the light is low -- yes, it is just a warning -- so you the user knows what's going on. You know if the camer is not stable you could get some fuzziness. I think it's better to know that something requires a little caution, than to get crummy pictures because I didn't know.
It has a large screen, it has a screw mount for lenses/filters, it has a metal screw base for tripod use, it uses regular AA batteries, it uses my old Sony memory (plus the new Sony Pro memory I bought), it takes 640 x 480, 30 frame per second video, with sound, and it's among the lightest in this class.
Honestly, I think it's hard to beat.

1-0 out of 5 stars DSCW5.51MP
I purchased this camera for my trip to Europe. DISAPPOINTED
is the short review. My sister had an Olympus 3.1 MP and her pictures blew mine way. I had serious clarity and focus problems. My prints were terrible for the most part and I am considering returning this camera. Sorry Sony I was burned this time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BIG value for the price
I got this camera for one hundred and seventy seven dollars here at Amazon. It packs alot of power for a small camera at a very low price. Here's what I like about it:

* Small compact size.I wouldn't exactly say this camera is meant for you pockets (although it would fit) as it's thicker than the slim design cameras that you may have seen. However, the thicker frame is what I like about it.It's very comfortable to hold with two hands - very good ergonomic design...fingers to not get in the way of the flash, lens, or viewfinder.I've tried taking pictures with the Canon Elph, and the thinness of that camera is very awkward (not good if you grew up with traditional point and shoot cameras).
* Excellent, excellent battery life. Say goodbye to proprietary batteries. This puppy uses two AA batteries. If you invest $20 for rechargeable Energizer Ni-Mh batteries (4 batteries and a charger), you'll find yourself taking picutres non-stop.My prior digital camera was a Sony P-50 that also used two AAs.That camera killed off my Ni-Mh batteries after only about 20-40 pictures depending upon flash usage and how long I left it on.The S-40 didn't drain my battery until I took about 200 pictures (the vast majority with the flash on - and I didn't try to conserve the battery).I think it can take a even greater amount, because the 200 was when I 1st got the camera and started playing with all the features wasting battery life.
* Relatively fast shutter.Press half-way to focus, then press all the way - practically no lag to take the picture unlike the older digital cameras.
* When using a Memory Stick Pro, the S-40 can take video with sound at 640 x 480 fine quality - good enough to burn onto a DVD and watch on your TV.
* Intuitive menu buttons on the camera...also has limited programmable camera features (i.e. ISO settings, EV, white balance, flash strength, center vs multi focus, etc.).
* 32 MB of internal memory - probably won't ever need with my 512MB memory stick, but nice to have just in case.
* 3X optical zoom on a Carl Zeiss quality lens.
* The 35mm equivalent is 32 to 96 millimeters. What this translates to is that the camera has a wider angle (so you can capture more in the frame without backing up) than a typical 35mm camera lens.Check out the 35mm equivalent on the other "micro" digital cameras and you will find that they are something like 38mm to 102mm, which means you have to backup to capture the same amount of detail. The higher mm rating is good for zooming, but worse for group photos. It's alot easier to move forward to your subject (for a manual zoom) than to move backwards (for a manual wider angle) in crowded areas.
* Takes good pictures...much better than my old Sony P-50 (which I got in 2001).

If I had to list one complaint about the camera, it's that in low lighting any picture taken with the subject greater than about 10 feet away (which is about the flash strength area) will show up "dingy" and the background will be in dark faded colors.HOWEVER, I surmise that ALL point-and-shoot digital (and conventional) cameras have this problem as well.Unless you can attach a larger flash to the camera, which isn't an option on point and shoots, this problem will always exist.Only SLR digital cameras will good pictures in low light with subjects greater than 10 feet away. The S-40 does have a night scene mode where it makes the shutter very slow so more light is captured - in this mode, the camera will take good low light pictures, but you have to use a tripod for this mode.

Overall, for under $200, I highly recommend this camera. You don't need to spend anything greater as this camera will do the trick.4.1MB is more good enough for photos as large as 8x10.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm so happy that I picked this camera!
I love this camera! I've only had this camera for about a month, but every picture is so vibrant. I work with children and have taken LOADS of pictures that are terrific! it captures everything- from them running, swinging, jump roping and sliding with perfect contrast and clarity. At the store, I was comparing this camera to a Samsung that was the same price and boy was there a difference in quality, this was the best one. This camera was so easy to figure out. In the car on the way home, I opened it,glanced at the manuel, popped open the batteries it came with and started to take pictures. The zoom is fantastic (being my first and only digital camera- I have nothing to compare it to)I took a picture of the car's license plate in front of me which I could not see clearly (w/out using zoom) and then used the 5x digital zoom to get a super clear license plate number (would come in handy for accidents :)). The menus were so easy to figure out, and connection to my computer was a breeze. Also, the software is great. I have just made a slide show video CD using pictures of my students and the software this camera came with. I love it! I HIGHLY recommend this Sony s40 to everyone. I am now addicted to digital photography!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera for Basic operations
This is my first review.
I purchased this camera for memorial weekend holidays from Officedepot and returned it after 3 days.
Camera is taking good quality pictures, more flash power, good for indoor, outdoor pictures, movie mode.
Camera records movie with audio, playback with audio internal speaker (nice feature), quick start to shoot, quick auto poweroff.
good:
1. Good Picture quality
2. Long Battery Life
3. Quick starter
4. Professional quality Lens
5. Uses AA batteries

Bad:
1. No Rechargeable batteries and charger, like all sony cameras
2. Not fully manual operations
3. Menu controls are confusing
4. Manual doesn't explained all features
5. Pictures are blurred of moving persons or objects
6. You can not take pictures of moving or dancing (kids).

Because of 5 & 6 reasons i returned the camera.
I had P72 Sony purchased in Bestbuy for $99 is far better than this. I took continuous pictures ie burst mode and took all pictures in moving or dancing kids, even while driving the car without any problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Camera!
First of all, let me say that I am NOT a camera bug or a photographic expert (neither digital nor film) so this is a new learning experience for me.I am very impressed with this product.
It delivers professional results and is easy to use.Newbees like me can get great results with the AUTO mode, then when you have the time to do so, you can experiment with the manual settings for custom results. The nice thing about digital (with a computer) is that you're not throwing away expensive materials (ie film) in order to learn. You can just delete your failures and try again. When you get a pic that looks printworthy you can either print it using your PC or you can connect the USB cord (supplied) directly to a photoprinter (if said printer has a standard called PICTBRIDGE). There are many settings that you can control (ISO sensitivity, EV, White Balance and other settings that shutterbugs are familiar with) or you can set it to AUTO and let the camera set it up for you.It uses JPEG format and you can get much detail setting it to 4 megapixels but these pics turn out BIG (almost 2 megs). If you don't want your pics that big you can set them down to 3.2, 3,1, or VGA and they still look very good, but they are smaller and easier to store. The camera is about the size of a bar of soap and fits very easily into a pocket. You can also take "webcam" type movies. The documentation comes in print and on the CD and is excellent, going into much detail on how to use the manual settings for best results. My only disappointment is with the Photo Editing program that comes on the CD.This program dosen't offer much for editing your pics on a PC (no problem for me though.I have PhotoDeluxe). If you have a good editing program that came with your printer (or scanner) you might want to use it instead.I think the software included with this camera is more suited for HandyCams (video cameras).
The camera has 32 megs of onboard memory which allows you to shoot 16 pics at 4 MPs, 20 at 3MPs, 50 at 1 MPs and 196 at VGA.
It has a slot for a memory stick if you choose to buy one. If you do decide to buy one of these cameras, do yourself a favor and buy some rechargable NIMH batteries, because I'll tell you ( and anybody with digicam experience knows this) alkaline batteries do not cut it with this camera. It comes with 2 alkalines and I think I took all of about 12 pictures before they were WIPED OUT!I then tried some regular Everready alkalines I had just bought and they wouldn't even power it up.The NIMH's that I bought work excellent and last long in between recharges. So, all in all, would I recommend this camera?Absolutely!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great camera!
I got this camera around christmas time because it was at a really low price on amazon. I love it to death! It is the best digital camera I have owned ever. It takes great dark room shots without the flash and the color and quality of the pictures is great. I love how you can set it up to take black and white pictures as well as sepia and some others. The zoom is pretty amazing, and the size of the camera is great to just throw in your purse and take it everywhere you go! I'd also recommend getting a small case for it, for protection. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Good Value!
Purchased this camera in January and have used it nonstop ever since!I did a lot of research before choosing this camera.Canon and Nikon are consistently the best digital cameras, however I find Canon cameras are more user friendly, especially for the amateur user. The automatic settings produce great pictures, the battery life is surprisingly good, and picture quality is as good as if not better than 35mm.My only two complaints would be that the SD Card is a little slow as memory cards go, and the flash on this camera is quite powerful and can produce some glare, but in such cases, turning the flash off is easy and still produces great pictures! If you are looking for a good quality, reliable camera at a value price, this is your best bet!

1-0 out of 5 stars Finish on camera poor, otherwise no problems.
I bought this camera less than 3 months ago and though it is easy and fun to use, the silver finish on the camera body is quickly wearing away on the points where it is held to take photographs. The camera really looks dingy for being just a few months old, and I intend to contact Canon about this flaw.Otherwise it does take nice pictures, and the battery life is outstanding.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
Hmmm...

As an avid motorcycle fan I was looking for a camera, which could easily be taken along in a jacket, on the belt, in a pouch without bulging too much. When prices came down on Amazon to US$ 190,oo it was a "now or never" decision. It was my Christmas present for myself.

Basically I am very happy and get many envious looks from my fellow bikers at the club. Simple to use - although too many features spoil the cook - easy to operate in a "quick draw" situation, and small, the main reason for having bought it.

A few drawbacks:
· The paint started to rub off within a week! Even if always kept in its leather case. This is a joke! After 5 months of use the top starts to rub off as well, giving it a funky look like if it has been used for years. Low resale value!
· I still haven't found a workable combination of self-timer and flash. Sometimes the photographer wants to be in the picture as well. Right?
· Without the flash, pictures tend to be too dark, which means that the aperture automatic isn't compensating in the right way.

I'll give it a three and a half out of five.

Best regards from Costa Rica, and for the bikers out there: keep it vertical and the rubber side down!

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed by unexpected flaws
Like many other buyers, I was attracted by its compact cute size and positive reviews (and the clearance price of course). There are two flaws that disappointed me.The silver paint on the camera body started to rub off after two weeks of light use indoor. The flash is very harsh; it makes every light colored surface appear shiny, resulting in over-exposed photos. These flaws (especially the harsh flash) were mentioned by other reviewer here.If I didn't send the UPC for a rebate, I'd have returned the camera.By the way, mine was made in Japan.Don't believe the myth about Japanese manufacturing.Their optics are relative good because they have been in the camera business since the 60s, but the body paint rubbing off in less than two weeks? That's a joke! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent hybrid!!!!
I am a first time tablet buyer and thus read everything written on tablets before buying one. I am quite please with my choice.
I have owned an ECS desknote, Compaq Presario, IBM notebooks and Gateway desktop earlier. Right now, I am using the R15 along with my gateway desktop.
Several people wrote that it is probably better to go with a slate rather than a hybrid but I wasn't sure how much will I use my tablet functionality. It appears that I will use the R15 mostly as a tablet and sometimes as a notebook. So, my next purchase will be a slate.

I have such a poor handwriting that I cannot read it myself on some occasions. Thus I am surprised that R15 could read my handwriting so well. I didnt check the speech recognition function, but last time I looked at it, the technology hadn't advanced much.

Overall, R15 is a sturdy machine with good wireless card (I didn't have to set up the wireless). Battery life is good (and can stretch even more than 4 hours on some settings). The pen is very easy to use and pleasant experience. The drive makes a lot of sound but there is a silencer that can make the noise disappear (I am not sure whether it changes the perfomrance). I was quite worried about the cooling of the machine - I checked an averatec which was too hot to handle. R15 manages the heat disspiation quite well, thought it reamins warm (not hot like so many other machines).

I decided not to go with Averatec as I read too many bad reviews and my last experinece with an unknown brand was extremely bad. So, i decided to spend 350 bucks extra on a known brand.

I found the performance of the machine to be at least as good as my 2.2Ghz desktop. I simultaneuously ran word, outlook, excel and onenote and performnnce was still good.

Amazon gave a great deal (and when i bought it was the cheapest R15 around). They also shipped in just 3 days (although they said it woudl take 5-9 days). Buying at Amazon was a pleasure - as always.

The only thing I dont like about R15 is the weight. Although, as a laptop the weigth is not problem, when it is used as a slate holding it in one arm for long is difficult. But this is a trade-off I made to have a larger screen, built in optical drive, and laptop functionality. I am not disappointed with the trade-off.

Overall, I would recommend this machine to someone who doesn't know how much he/she would use it as a tablet and for first time tablet buyers. I would also recommend potential laptop buyers to take a good look at this hybrid as it has amazing features (as a tablet) that would change the way you work with your computer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall it's a good machine for the price
I wrote a review of the R15 that would take too much space here. You can view at VBInk dot com.

In general, I agree with the previous reviews. I would recommend it for people new to tablets. My next one may be a slate though.I didn't think I was too mobile beofre getting the R15.A new world has opened up to me.In a couple years I'll be ready for a slate.Someone told me "If you buy a convertable, try to use it only in Tablet mode to really learn and benefit from the tablet features. Otherwise, you'll end up using the Tablet as a notebook and the purchase would have been pointless."

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tablet pc - versitile - but A Monster
I agree with the previous review.I've had this machine for over about a week now and I love it...but it's a monster.Heavy and big. When converted into tablet form it is much more manageable (at least it's not so bulky then).I bought a verizon broadband card and I've been in heaven.Never have to worry about an internet connection now...I use the tablet form when in meetings and when I have to walk around. The machine itself is great.Comes with OneNote installed...great features...big screen (although that can be a pain because it makes the machine bigger; I like the big screen though)...and a very good price for what you get. If you're willing to spend over 2.5K you can get the Fujitu T4000 which is smaller and lighter and looks like a great machine....but you pay over 1K more (which I was not willing to do).The R15 is a very functional machine; it does what I need it for and although it's a bit heavy and bulky it is an excellent value.Hopefully it will stand the test of time and not fall apart on me after I write this review :)

4-0 out of 5 stars BEST FOR THE PRICE
I wanted to buy a tablet pc for a long time but the only thing that was keeping me away from it was that the price was too high for something with very low computing power and in most cases no optical drive. For the ones with a good configuration and an optical drive the price was too high. I loved the functionality of the tablet pc so was not able to decide whether to buy a notebook or a tablet, but then this came along and I have to say it is the best for the price, I have given it 4 stars only because it is on the heavier side for a tablet pc, but then I guess you can't have everything for this price. If you want something light and can do without a CD/DVD drive and a smaller screen then you should consider the TOSHIBA M200 or the FUJITSU T4000. Except the weight this is a g
