1-0 out of 5 stars should have listened to the bad reviews
This thing worked for a total of 50 minutes. I bought it for work, and when I recieved it, I took it out of the box and made sure it worked, and it did. I took it to work 2 days later and it turned out to be a piece of junk. No sound came out unless I played around with the middle speaker and had it sit just right; then, after about 45 minutes, the sound was lost alltogether and I couldn't get it back. I'm going to a retail store tomorrow to get a different one that I can take back right away (if I have to) instead of waiting 2-6 weeks to send mine in and get fixed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying
For portable speakers for an iPod, this is an alright buy. However, after i had caried it to 2 or 3 places, and i made sure it was packed tightly so nothing would mess up, i found out that the AC adapter stopped functioning. This was bad because now I am left with speakers that can only play with batteries.Another problem with this speaker system is that its "3D surround sound processor" is not very good.No matter how close I am to the speakers, I do not change the 3D setting because it sounds the same, if not worse, as the normal setting. There isn't much point to buying specific speakers for an iPod anymore because Apple has come out with an iTrip costing $20-$25.This small device plugs into the iPod and boardcasts the iPod's music onto a radio nearby very easily. All the listener needs is a radio, and this will cost far less than the speakers. So i recomend not purchasing this, and just purchasing an iTrip if you want to hear your iPod on portable speakers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay gadget if you want some thing portable
I would recommend this item stictly if you are looking for some thing portable. I was not too impressed with the sound quality, in fact it did not sound much better than my dell computer speakers. When turned to high volumes, the sound is distorted- although it sounds alright when you are sitting right by the speakers. Let's put it this way, i had MUCH better sound when i plugged my ipod into my 20-year old boom-box.
This would be a nice product to have for traveling, but i wouldn't recommend it for a home/room stereo system.
I'm returning mine today.
hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite a bargain!
I recently purchased an I-Station and I love it.The I-Station is very easy use, and can do more than play iPods. If you have an MP3 player you can hook it up to the speakers using the included mini-jack.This is a way to play music from an iPod Shuffle. The fold up design is very cool, but the AC adapter is quite long.If you plan on bringing an I-Station to vacation, don't pack it in a carry on.This device is great.I would choose it over the inMotion speakers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sound from a little box
I am now on my second I-Station.The first unit did not work when disconnected from AC power.Amazon was awsome (as usual) in replacing the unit ASAP.The replacement has worked flawlessly.

This little unit really delivers a lot of bang for your buck.We use it as a doc at home (the regular doc is at work), so we can charge the iPod and transfer tunes with it.When we have dinner on the patio, we just un-plug the unit and run it on 4 AA batteries (not incuded). When I have poker night with the boys, the I-Station goes with me.It is so small, it fits in my coat pocket and yet it delivers awsome sound. This unit is perfect for camping. It sits on the picnic table while I cook. The sound is great, but not too loud (which you don't want when you are camping). The sound quality is very good, but it does not hand bass to well, which is understandable given the size of the "woofer".

Don't get me wrong - this will not replace a boom box or a stereo system. It will, however, serve your needs in an office, camper, patio, etc. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but nothing groundbreaking
iLife '05 is nice, and especially so for somebody like me who is coming from the original iLife. However, I am not sure that any of its improvements would be worth $80 from iLife '04.

1-0 out of 5 stars Need a Different Operating System
Amazon clearly says OS X.I have 10.2.8.I can't install ilife5.There should be a bold face warning that you need Panther or Tiger to install.

4-0 out of 5 stars Working with iMovie HD
`Established' Shot and Location

In the Timeline, I set the order of my Clip Panes with the first being the important `Established' shot. Clips are pieces of movie footage that you rearrange into your movie for storytelling. Later, I add a movie title that answers the questions of  when and where the movie was filmed. You will find that location and date anchor the movie for your viewing audience.

Major Editing in Post Production

I change the Preference to Clip Panes shelf when I do the major editing of my movie. Next, I split my movie clips into several new clips and drag them to the Clip Panes shelf for later editing.

Most of my movie clips need slitting (Command `T') to remove poor movie footage such as shaky hand-held camcorder shooting. The Post Production editing is the most time- consuming. I find that a ratio of one minute of movie footage is equal to one hour of editing time. This includes selecting the proper music, editing the sound and enhancing the video.

Analog Signals into Digital Signals

An analog-to-digital converter, or ADC as it is more commonly called, is a device that converts analog signals into digital signals. Computers, which handle data in digital form, require analog-to-digital converters to turn signals from analog to digital before it can be read.

Could I convert my VCR cassette`s Analog Signals into Digital Signals?

According to the Canon ZR60 camcorder's manual, the answer was negative for traditional replacing of existing scenes for the AV insert. Taking my roundabout approach, I worked at importing film footage from my RIC master VCR tape from my Rhode Island College Video project from 1992 using iMovie HD. My Canon ZR60 camcorder manual hinted at the solution for importing the VCR's analog video and sound.

How did I connect the devices? I used my ST-250N Stereo Video cable supplied with my Canon ZR60 camcorder and connected it to the VCR's video and sound ports.

I experimented with iMovie HD to solve the problem. My Canon ZR60 captured the master VCR tape footage after I set the camera to AC-In mode. Next, I reverse the book instructions from David Pogue's "iMovie 4 & iDVD, the Missing Manual" to make it work.

I chose File to Share (Shift-Command-E) then I clicked on the "Videocamera" icon. The instructions said, `Record your movie to a tape in your videocamera. This operation may take several minutes to complete.' Next, I changed the wait time to a maximum of 59 seconds for camera to get ready. Finally, I changed the Add time to 59 seconds of black before and to end the movie.

By using this method, I could capture 59 seconds of my RIC public speaking instruction master VCR tape to my MiniDV digital video cassette in my Canon ZR60 camcorder. Importing the entire RIC master VCR tape was 10 minutes and I had to stop and start 10 times bringing in the VCR film footage.

Note: This will not work with Copy Protected videos for editing videos.

The quality from analog to digital tape was quite good. A commercial Analog Signals into Digital Signals converter sells for $500 to $900 retail. Therefore, the effort was worth it for this project.

Final Notes

I find the iMovie HD program one of the best iMovies program series. iMovie HD worked well with some of my old iMovies 4 footage and enhanced my previous low-light film footage when transported and burned in iDVD 5 program.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade, but...
All I wanted to do was create a DVD for my brother.IMovie is decent. It has a few minor quirks to it.The amount of time for title slides has a max of 4 seconds. All of my slides are 4 seconds.Anything else seems too short and amateurish. It had a problem importing MGEP 1 movies.I had to go through a convoluted process to get the movie into place.Even then, the first .5 seconds of the audio was missing...due to the conversion process. This is not Apple fault, except they should be able to import those movies.all other formats works fine.

I found iDVD to have major quirks.First, the audio was 1 second behind the video on the DVD.Then the audio kept advancing forward, make it ouf of sync, more and more as the movie played on.Then the movie would stop the audio at the first sound effect i placed in a text slide. This was extremely frustrating.I thought it was supposed to be easy!?

iDVD just takes a movie, renders it, and burns it to a DVD with some selection screens. How hard is that?I ended up remaking one of my iMovie projects three time before it finally came out.The other project, well, I had to extract the audio so that it would be on the DVD (except the first and last video).Lastly, the final chapter (movie marker) pointed to the start of the movie.

I like Garageband, it's easy but not a powerful tool like Logic.
ITunes, well, it's iTunes! It is definitive.
iPhoto is awesome. It still feels like it is just feature creeping, for better or worse.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes it doesn't just work.
iLife '05is supposed to support RAW image processing (see product description above) for photos in iPhoto. The surprise is that although my Canon camera is supported, it's RAW image format is not, rendering iPhoto useless for most of my photographs. This was unexpected as third party companies have image conversion software that manages to do this with little problem.I know there are many RAW image formats, but it's the job of good technology to simplify a complex environment.

I'm new to Apple products and very pleased overall since we purchased the imac G5.It seems like in most cases "it just works" describes their system well, but in this case, I guess we needed to read the "fine print".

I also noticed that it is still not possible to record anything on GarageBand with the iSight's (Apples webcam/microphone).Apparently there is some type of software/hardware incompatibility.Expected in Windows machines, (fortunately) unusual in Apple products. Not a major issue for most, but the incompatibility of Apple hardware and software is still an unwelcome surprise. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thing to remember...
The Mac Mini is NOT a PC meant for a person without a PC to easily use. The Mini was meant to be a cheap, easy solution to getting Wintel users over to the Mac "side" by offering a PC that was small, cheap, and worked with your previous Printer, USB Keyboard and Mouse, and Monitor. First time COMPUTER users should consider something with a little more character (Perhaps the eMac)... However, if you have your old XP machine with a USB Keyboard and mouse, and a standard CRT monitor (OR LCD)... Go for the Mini... It's a nice taste of the Mac world!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to the Mac World
Most the malignment against Macintoshes has been due to the Mac Zealots, who rail on about how great and perfect they are, with little objectivity or common sense.

The Mini is the first "Real" Mac to be affordable to most people, competing against the Dells and Hewlett Packards of the world.

It's incredibly quiet, economical on power, and for the most part is pretty intuitive. However, there are a few caveats:

1. Max out the Ram.512MB should be the minimum, 1GB (The maximum it takes) is better. They are tricky to take apart, so it's best to either order them with the Ram or let someone who's done it install the Ram.I always use Crucial Ram, not some off-brand stuff.

2. Either ditch the Apple DVI adapter for another one or use a DVI LCD monitor. Many people have complained of dim displays or weird effects like flickering red or black lines, and this is the biggest problem with the Mini.My feeling is Apple messed up and left the onboard video running to the very narrow specs they use for their monitors, not realizing the rest of the world does things a little more flexibly.Dim CRT displays are supposedly a voltage problem, and some people have gotten better results with a non-Apple DVI-Analog adapter. My advice would be to check some message boards and see what monitors most people are having success with, and go with that.In my case I'm using an Ilo 19 inch dirt-cheap LCD DVI monitor from Wal-Mart, and the results have been pretty good.

The Mac world is different than what most PC users expect, and there's a few things to accept right off the bat--they are slower, and there's not as much software out there.Being based on BSD you *can* get a lot of open source software, but it's not as easy as you think, since most of it is tailored for KDE/Gnome and won't run under OSX.There is more commercial software than you would expect, and quite a few programs still come on hybrid discs that are Mac/PC, so check your CD's to see if you can still use your stuff. It also goes without saying that there's practically no viruses or spyware to speak of, so most users will be surprised versus the constant arms race in the PC world against the virus writers.

The things I've truly been amazed by on my Mini is the USB works flawessly, I've been able to hook up multiple devices in a string with no hardware conflict/random drop outs, and the sound is fantastic.I'm still not too sure if this is because Apple has such a good sound chip, or because simple stereo on a quiet machine is better than the gimmicky 5.1 surround sound people swear by today.Either way, good speakers can be put to use.

iLife is the center of the Mac "everyday stuff" software, and to be blunt there's nothing it can do that you can't find on a PC.However, the software all works alike and is very intuitive and easy to use.I've edited movies, made DVD's, and organized my photo collection without a hitch.Again, I could do the same on the PC, but the ease of use makes it all the better.

If I had to say the Mini has a weakness, it's the onboard Radeon 9200 video. It only has 32MB of Ram, and since the OS uses hardware acceleration for a lot of the effects, things are slower than they should be.I have been able to get some 3D stuff (Like a landscaping software called Vue D'Esprit) to run, but it's very tedious.

Overall I think the Mini has been one of the best computer purchases I made, and I wouldn't wait for the new Intel based Apples to come out.Supposedly the laptops and maybe the Mini will be running on Intel chips first, but development and support for the PowerPC chips will continue for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my Mini!
Although I have had previous encounters with Macintosh computers (one ran system 6, the other ran system 7), I had not had the chance to get a new Mac computer. My PC did its job, although definitely not in a stylish or efficient manner, but I got tired of its noisiness, driver problems, and intermittent support of my hardware (and lack of portability). Since I had decided to start trying to compose music, I decided to try something new; Macs had a reputation for quality in the fields of audio and video, and for the money, the Mac Mini looked like a much better deal than a mini PC.So I took the small plunge (for me it was small, but it's probably big for others!) and bought a Mac Mini 1.25 GHz.While I was at it, I opted for 512 MB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive. It arrived this Friday, and since then I have tested its capabilities for making music, ripping music, playing games, and browsing the web.For all these tasks, I have found it more than adequate, in fact I would consider it to be the best, nicest computer I have ever used.Notwithstanding the beautiful interface and smart thinking behind the Tiger OS, the machine itself is sleek, small, quiet beyond belief, and more powerful than I thought it might be.For music tasks, I use GarageBand, along with several Audio Units that I found. The Mini seems to handle everything atlow latency, except when several software instruments are going, and I try to record another track on top while playing the others. Then the latency becomes rather annoying, and keeping in sync with the other tracks becomes difficult.I have not tried recording real instruments onto the system, but I have found that if the latency becomes unacceptable, mix down the tracks that you already have and reimport them as a single track. That way the CPU doesn't have to do the work for eight soft synths, but one.
For other tasks, the Mini is simply excellent.Ripping music is not much different than other computers; it rips a CD in about 10 minutes, so it's not bad at all.The games included with the computer aren't that bad really, and Nanosaur 2 is pretty cool for the casual gamer like myself.I also downloaded the Jedi Academy demo to see how it runs, and it runs better than it ran on my PC that had a 64 MB graphics card! Not that the FPS were in the hundreds, but it seemed good enough for me.If anything, the hard drive was probably the slowest factor in playing JA.
Finally, web browsing and emailing is very nice and polished; the interfaces for both Safari and Mail are clean and efficient, and I found that Java and Flash 7 were preinstalled, which is a nice touch. The address book program imported all of my contacts without a problem, so I have no complaints for it.
Overall, I have had a very good experience with the Mac Mini, although the news of Apple's switch to Intel gave me a little scare (I hope that many application manufacturers will continue making PPC versions for quite a while, though!).Anyway, I highly recommend the Mac Mini for anyone wishing to 1) try out Mac OS X, 2) upgrade from an ancient system to a newer one, or 3) make some basic music on their computer (or almost anyone else, too!).

5-0 out of 5 stars ... Amazing--WIN -- Win ...
Having acquired 10 new Macs over the past 20 years, this review is a suitable forum for my contrarian views. "In one fell swoop", Apple has captured Intel's marketing while destroying Window's marketing. Amazing. My intention has been to add this very inexpensive Mac Mini with its fabulous, free software, and will now wait several weeks for even lower price reductions to flow through the retail chain. It will wirelessly boot from the box to drive my large collection of photos, music and DVD movies onto my 42" flat screen TV using the best media software available (included).

This is Win-WIN since Mac OS X is already ported seamlessly; several thousand Mac-Intels have already been delivered to developers for tweaking. Today's (June 6) Apple Demos of Mac OS-X were actually presented live entirely on Mac-Intel computers; Apple's major new apps have been dual capable with the supplied Rosetta layer for the past year.

Apple changes the Landscape -- again. Our digital lifestyle will continue to expand significantly with faster, cheaper, smaller, more powerful, forward-backward compatible Macs every two years or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great computer for mom, dad, and grandparents
If you ever wanted to get a computer so that your parents and grandparents can keep in touch, get this one. The main reason why I wouldn't recommended a PC is because of all of the viruses and spyware that clog most machines today. My parents have 2 PCs in their home. A virus killed one machine. Spyware and popups slowed down the other machine to the point where web surfing is rendered useless.

Macs don't have to deal so much with viruses and spyware like PCs. Admittedly, you should double the ram. And maybe get a wireless keyboard to free up some USB ports.

Overall, this is the perfect PC replacement for mom, pop, grandpa, and grandma.

(...)

All in all, this machine is great for all the applications your parents will ever really use. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Installation Nightmare...
After reading the glowing reviews, I got this camera for my XP Service Pack 2 system (btw, an ASUS A7NX8-E Deluxe motherboard). Following the instructions, I attempted to install the software before plugging the camera in. In fact, I downloaded the latest software (v 8.4.6 build 1016A) from the Logitech website first. The initial attempt to install failed during the process to install the drivers. It loadedseveral files and then attempted to "Uninstall Device" (?!!?). The Logitech program it tried to run, DELDEV.EXE, died, generating a system warning (ie. "Device Removal Module Died! Send Report To Microsoft ?"). It then retries, dies, retries, dies, forever. Had to finally kill the install process in the Task Manager. Nice.

In looking on the Logitech Support website, they recommend doing a "Clean Boot Process" prior to install. This involves running the utility, MSCONFIG, and doing a "selective startup", turning off all Windows configuration files and all Windows Services and rebooting the machine. Jeez, I've never had to do this with any other software installation -- ever! Seems excessive and burdensome, especially for a USB device. But, I tried it. I had the same installation failure. I tried doing this again, but clearing out all temp files first (another suggestion). No go.

I've spent hours pouring over the Logitech Knowledge Base and User Discussion Groups. I haven't found a good solution. But I've seen lots of discussion of folks having problems with XP Service Pack 2. Some folks report success with XP SP2, but there are also a lot of folks having a frustrating time. Looks like the QuickCam software is not completely stable/reliable under XP Service Pack 2. Waiting to hear back from Logitech Tech Support -- but I'm not holding my breath for a speedy resolution.

I've just about given up. I went into the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs utility to clean up the *partially* installed QuickCam software. The Uninstall program for the QuickCam software dies with an exception in SetupDLL/SetupDLL.cpp(454) (ie. line 454 of the C++ code for SetupDLL). So I've got this crappy, half-installed software I can't clear out of my system. Gosh, thanks Logitech.

I know people are using this camera successfully and getting great results. But I can't get past the initial software install (haven't even plugged the camera in the USB port yet). I would recommend that anyone considering purchasing this camera for XP Service Pack 2 first visit the Logitech support website, and search through the Knowledge Base and the User Discussion Groups.

Disappointed, John

3-0 out of 5 stars Not very sharp
For close ups, this camera is fine, but forget the zoom.Very out of focus, even after turning the focus ring six ways from Sunday. It just doesn't get sharp.Maybe 5-8 feet is the maximum distance. Outside of that it's too blurry.I also have the $28 Webcam NX and it has a much better picture for distance shots.

The focus ring took some work to get it free. The rubber ring seems to get stuck on the plastic camera body.I managed to get some plastic under it and finally got it to turn, although it still isn't very easy.

The "Face Tracking" consists of zooming in and out to find the person. There isn't any movement of the camera body. For that you have to go up to the next level of Logitec cameras.

Color is very good and there are plenty of automatic and manual settings for light, background, color etc.

Two bases are included; one for hanging onto the laptop and the other for flat surfaces. Both have rubber bases to keep them from slipping. The laptop one is very durable and flexible so you can bend it to fit the edge of the screen or other vertical flat surface. They just snap on so it's very easy to change from one to the other.

If only it were sharper it would be a really nice camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice picture, bad mechanical
I am happy with the picture quality of this web cam. However, the mechanical leaves a lot to be desired

With one day of using it, the camera head started flopping around. Looks like the spring this is supposed to be holding the head on to the base is very weak and after pointing the camera a few times, it became very loose and there is no way to tighten it or adjust it.

I thought I just had a bad one so I exchanged it. When I got the new one home, I was as careful as I can be. But within one week, the same thing happened. It is obviously a mechanical design flaw. The worse part is that the USB cable attached to the camera head is long and thick relatively to the camera. With the camera head being loose, the cable now controls which direction the carmea points to.

This makes the camera almost unusable.

5-0 out of 5 stars novice is delighted
I am a novice web-cam user and I bought this one because of the good reviews here and was delighted. 3-0 out of 5 stars Great little printer, but....
I like that it's compact and has good features built in, especially the battery, but the image quality don't quite live up to it being a true photo printer. To those who have this printer, tilt the picture a bit under the light, and you'll see the colors are not smooth, making it appear the subjects or objects are pasted on the paper, including obvious showing of dithering. At least it is true when printed on HP paper; however, looks more realistic and looks like a true photo when printed on my leftover Canon glossy paper.Ink smears are also another problem area for this printer.I have HP 2710 and and has same problems with photo print outs on that printer.HP375B was strictly for the photos and is going back and will be exchanged with just released Epson Picturemate Deluxe, which appears to not have these shortcomings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value & performance
Easy to setup and use. Good quality pictures (hard to tell from regular prints). It takes about 1 minute per print. I haven't made enough pictures to know how long the cartridge will last. For taking digital photos and making 4x6" prints, its a great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Results
Works as advertised.I had it out of the box and printing beautiful pictures in 10 minutes. This was the perfect gift for my non-technical wife who just wanted to push a button and get a picture.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible service
My wife and I wasted hours and hours trying to get HP service. HP has outsourced customer service to several developing countries, and each time we called, the representatives were unable to locate the record of our previous call.We were told time and again that we would be contacted by a "case manager" but that never happened. After weeks of trying, it became obvious that we need to discard the product (still under warrantee) and buy a new (non-HP) product ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!!
I decided I wanted a photo printer just for printing photos. Consumer Reports gave this printer the highest marks for photo quality so it caught my interest. When I looked closer I saw this model has the large-size photo preview screen and it accepts memory cards from all digital cameras. Now my friends and family can come to my house and print photos during parties and other events. It is so great to get the photos instantly from my camera and into my hands. This little printer sits on my kitchen counter at all times. The photo quality is amazing and it is so easy to use. What a winner! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Automated Payroll Processing Is Now an Add-on Charge
As the treasurer for a church with six employees, I have used QuickBooks for the accounting and payroll for the church for more than a decade.

I just upgraded the software used by the church to QuickBooks Basic 2005 this year and found that we can not use QuickBooks to compute the payroll tax withholdings unless we subscribe to one of Intuit's payroll services. This is a change in the way payroll is handled by the software from previous additions of QuickBooks Basic.

This additional subscription makes the cost of upgrading to QuickBooks Basic 2005 more than triple the published software price (...) because the least expensive of the subscriptions is $199 per year.

In response, I have developed a an Excel spreadsheet that can do the computations for our organization and I will not be subscribing to Intuit's payroll service.

The rest of the package seems to work as intended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Context is everything
I used QuickBooks, happily, for years -- until they stopped supporting tax tables for the Mac, about 1999. They migrated us to Aatrix TopPay -- a nightmare -- but at the time, the only company making payroll software for the Mac. I stayed with them, though their UI was ghastly, forms didn't work, customer support poor -- feeling it was better than going to a PC. Finally this year, my experience with their version 15 was so terrible that I gave up entirely -- bought QuickBooks -- and set it up on my PC. What ease of use! What intuitive, easy navigation! What joy! It took me very little time to set up my company, calculate payroll, and be on my way.

So -- compared to what I've had to deal with for the past 5 years -- this is magnificent.

1-0 out of 5 stars I would have given it a 0 star if I could.
Just do one thing. Try to create an invoice with British Sterling Pound symbol or Japanese Yen symbol.

It doesn't take many problems for a software to be obsolete. Just one problem that cannot be fixed.

If you have a global dream for your small business, this software isn't it.

What a junk. I am going back to Microsoft Money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this
Instead look into CF1GB-40-278 (Lexar 40x) compact flash card. This one is Type 1 and slow as molasses. For about the same price the lexar card (which is Type 2) is almost 10 times faster. If you are into digital photography with atleast 3mp cameras you need to skip this card and get a faster one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Value on Market; But You Must Know What You're Buying
The fact of the matter is, at the time of writing this review, there is no better value than this 1 GB disk. It is not as fast as many that you can purchase, but even for me taking wedding photos, my on-camera cache is enough to compensate for that speed. For the average or even semi-professional photographer (unless your goal is to be taking many rapid-fire shots) even this slow speed should be more than enough.

SanDisk quality and their 5 year manufacturer's warranty make this card that much better of a value over the no-name cheap competition.

The card is not perfect. It may fail and you will be stuck with 1 Gig of corrupted imgaes. That could happen with any card that you purchase. The card is slower than some, but most of the cameras being sold today have at least a 4 picture cache which means you will rarely even notice the effects under normal shooting conditions. The card is not the cure-all for the digital storage world, but at the time of writing this review it was only about fifty-nine bucks making it the best value out there that I have seen, all this with no-cost shipping and no sales tax.

So take the plusses and the minusses into account and make your choice...unless you have very special needs that would necessitate a faster card, this will probably be what you should choose.

5-0 out of 5 stars How many pictures will it store?
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about.Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk SDCFB-1000-A10 1GB CF Type 1 Card, like most 1000MB cards, will store on average 1137 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 853 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera,512 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 409 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 320 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

One last thing to consider when buying a 1000MB card.Do not necessarily choose the least expensive card available.A 1000MB card should be an investment. You need to consider quality, reliability, and speed with a card of this capacity.Worse case scenario would be you taking this card (and only this card) on vacation with you overseas and for some reason it gets corrupted. Then what do you do?Purchasing a high capacity card changes the game a little, just be mindful of that before you hit the buy button.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Yep..It's slow
I planned on using this in my PDA for music. Its slowness led to skipping and the more files I added the slower it got until it was unusable.I guess that's why they don't tell you the transfer rate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad batch
I have used CompactFlash cards before, having great success with usage and loading to computer.BUT, I recently purchased the 1GB SanDisk card from Amazon, and am disappointed to report that it was defective.I lost over 150 photographs. It would not load my photos onto my computer, and in the camera's LCD there were digital streaks/bands across the images.

I exchanged this item for a new one, which had EXACTLY the same troubles.I am not sure if this was a bad batch, or if 1GB disks are not sophisticated enough yet.Again, I have used other type I/II cards without any problems whatsoever. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Can you say SLOW.
One word to describe the Viking 256 MB Secure Digital Flash Card is SLOW. I used it for my Kodak Easy Share camera and it will not stay in the little slot it is suppose to. I've tried it in different cameras and have the same problems. Did I say it was slow?

3-0 out of 5 stars S......L.......O.......Wto write but read is great
I'm using the viking 256MB for a Palm T|T.It takes for ever to write such a 1MB file will take over 5 minutes.I've had to cancel saving MP3 files (~5MB) on the card since I couldn't wait after 10 minutes. You get what you pay for. However, I gave it an average rating since the reading capability is definitely faster. So if cost is a factor and you don't mind waiting then get this before the rebate is over.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent for the price
This is a great :Value for money card- I am using it with my Canon Powershot A510 and it is slightly slow but nothing that I didnt expect. Decent read and write speed and good storage capability!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a good SD card with a great price.
At first, I am skeptical with the brand since I'm usually using SD card made by either SanDisk or Lexar. But it turned out this brand work quite well. I am using this SD card for my Canon SD110. Already a good price after 75% off, plus $16 mail-in-rebate. No complain.

5-0 out of 5 stars I didn't expect blazing speed but its good enough.
I guess since my expectations for this card were low, I got more than what I expected.

On a single large file test, it achieved a write speed of 16.5X and a read speed of 46X. So, no its not a high speed card, but I have had bottom line LExars write at much slower speed than this for more money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Explanation of PRO and MagiGate!!!
I have been reading the reviews and am surprised at the misinformed statements contained. First off, Memorystick Pro is a newer format that regular memorystick which has differences in access times and overall capacity. Regular memorysticks are limited to 128 MB and are slower than the Pro variety which goes to 2GB. The Memorystick Select is 2 128 MB memorysticks combined into one and divided by a switch. The reason it exists was to raise the limit on memorysticks but it has the drawback that you have to take the memorystick out and move the switch to access the other half of the memory on the card. Newer Clies and cameras accept the Pro Memorystick but earlier units can not use them. The way to know is on the unit itself. Both my camera and my Clie accept the Pro variety.

Now onto MagiGate, it is a security format needed for storing Music in ATRAC format. This proprietary format is according to some sources the format music on MiniDiscs is. Now for a camera, MagiGate does not make a difference but on a Clie for Music MagiGate is probably better so you can take advantage of this format without sacrificing the ability to save files in MP3 format.

Now onto the size and price considerations. At the moment the difference in price from 128 MB to 256 MB is less than between a 256 and a 512. By this I mean 2 times the price of 128 is significantly more than the price for 1 256 while the price of 2 256 is a lot closer the the price of 512. For me this means the most adecuately priced is the 256 MB.

5-0 out of 5 stars Decently Priced and No Switching Nonsense
Yes, a little on the expensive side, but compared to Sony and Lexar, it's still cheaper.

I almost bought a regular memory stick, which would've required me to flip a small switch once I used up 128 mb (my parents have old folks' vision, and the switching would've driven them nuts). This Memory Stick Pro does not require any switching nonsense, making it very convenient to use.

I haven't had any problems with my purchase. It is also compatible with Sony LCD TVs that contain a port for Memory Sticks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great low cost solution
This memory card is reliable and it's a perfect fit for my Sony 5.1 Megapixel Cybershot DSC-P93A.

On my camera, you can store the following number of images:5MP = 98, 3MP = 158, 1MP = 380, VGA = 1520.This is significantly more than you can get on the card that comes with the camera (32MB).

The prices vary wildly for this item. Not knowing any better, the week that I bought my camer, I purchased three of these cards for; $57, $47 and $37 respectively.Be sure to price shop before you buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reliable and cheap
This Sandisk 256MB Memory Stick flash memory card is reliable and it's a perfect fit for the latest Sony digital cameras and Clie handhelds.Sandisk designs their own memory controller circuits and they are good at making the Memory Stick compatible with all new Sony products. As long as you don't drop this or soak it in water (why would you do that?), you should expect many years of solid service out of this.

BTW, you shouldn't be paying more than $40 for this, and as of today (1/3/05) Amazon has the best price.Shop around if Amazon price goes above $40 (before rebate).

The Sandisk 512MB Memory Stick Pro flash card is also good, although some Sony products may not be able to use all 512MB.Check your Sony manual before you buy.Good thing Amazon does offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but very expensive product
I had recieved for the holidays a Sony Cybershot Digital Camera (DSC-P73), which did come with a 16MB memory stick. The 16MB memory stick would be nice for low reslution pics and vids, but I personality enjoy full screen, and the 16MB is clearly not enough. So, I also recieved this as a gift. I'm glad I didn't get anything smaller, because there wouldn't be enough to hold enough. If I got something bigger, it would be much to expensive, and I would be wasting money for a bunch of space I didn't use and never would use. With this, it gives a good amount of pics capacity and you can film about 11 minutes on the 640 standard version. Though, this is not a very big memory stick such as the 512MB, it does cost a lot of $$. Also, Sony and Sandisk try to push you into buying it because of some Magicgate thing. Magicgate is not a befenit or a letdown, it's just a camera supporter. Also, the memory stick is NOT PRO. All memory stick are the same and the only difference between any of them would be the size capacity. So, go ahead and buy this memory stick, considering you will probably need it on the long run if you are into high resolution, but remember that Magicgate and Memory Stick Pro are things to convince you to buy it and really have no difference whatsoever. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars DIFFICULT TO GET WORKING PROPERLY
THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. I HAVE TO REBOOT MY COMPUTER ALMOST AFTER EVERY SCAN. IT IS VERY, VERY SENITIVE. IF EVERYTHING NOT ALIGNED PRECISELY, IT WON'T WORK. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO NOT ONLY REBOOT, BUT HAVE TO RELOAD THE SOFTWARE BECAUSE MY COMPUTER DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE SCANNER - SAVE YOUR MONEY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for batch scanning
I've just finished installing and testing my slide scanner....what fun!I had absolutely no problems with installation or using this scanner.Using advice from Jeff Lindborg's review and the manual, I installed the software first, then hooked up the hardware, then followed the manual's instructions for batch processing.I did roughly 40 slides in about 1 hour, including the time to do color/brightness adjustments (my slides are from 1970's).

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
I have returned this to Amazon and they have kindly agreed to refund my money. Other buyers should be warned. This is a poorly engineered, flimsy, badly documented product with no support number that I could find in the materials that came with the scanner.
The documentation is simply wrong in its startup instructions for a Mac OSX machine. After figuring out how to make it start, I successfully scanned several slides and negatives (fewer than ten out of hundreds needing to be done) when the machine physically jammed. The cheapo plastic slide and film holders may be the problem, or the motor of the scanner, or gears, who knows? You can't get in touch with Minolta support to find out. Once I got it unjammed, the scanner inexplicably stoppedmaking legible scans. The picture would be either a purple blob, for color slides, or black and white ultra-high contrast things for b&w negatives that lookedlikesomeone had done a bad Xerox of a newspaper photo. Awful. The level of detail would not be acceptable in a thumbnail, much less a finished scan. I tried restarting the computer, the scanner, re-initializing, etc, and nothing worked.
If the scanner itself had not failed, I am sure the plastic film holders would have broken long before I finished my work.
Anyway, at that point I asked for my money back and boxed it up and sent it back.

1-0 out of 5 stars If it worked, it might be good.
Needing a slide scanner for an upcoming project, we bought this one in January, in California, and finally installed software, etc. and did hookup in April.Ran through some slides, and seemed okay, until we previewed the slides and found a narrow 'rainbow' line running vertically through each slide, just left of center. After examining every aspect of our undertaking it came down to the scanner, so we called their customer service dept, in New Jersey. The person with whom we were connected knew nothing about the technical aspects of scanners and would only say that we had to send the scanner to New Jersey for diagnostics/repair and we MUST include an orginal copy of the paid sales slip or we would be billed. When asked, we were told it could be 6-8 weeks before we received the scanner back, from the time they received it.So, in the middle of our project we had to box it and send it off - at our expense - to Neverland (New Jersey), and go buy another scanner for our project.Do you think we bought another Konica/Minolta?Not in this lifetime.A product is only as good as its mechanical abilities and the customer service behind it.So far, this company and this product are a miss, in our experience.Pay more and buy from the competition, where you will get a better product and much better customer service, with local repair possibilities.

As an aside, we shipped over ten days ago, USP Priority Mail, and have yet to hear from Konica/Minolta.We are not holding our breaths.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good results but quirky operation
I have been happy with the results produced by this product. I used this scanner to scan my original slides for posting to my website http://www.newyorkslideshow.com (review the results there)

However the scanner is a little quirky, if you follow these steps you should have few issues:

1) Do not attach the device until you have installed the vendor provided software (read the manual for full instructions)
2) Do not turn the device on until your PC has fully booted
3) Always have the door closed when starting the scanning software - wait until it grumbles about there being no slide holder inserted - then insert the slide holder

The image scanning isn't razor sharp - but good enough for a device costing $240. The manual focus operation is impossible to use - so if the autofocus scan fails you're out of luck. ... Read more

Hands down.Samsung rocks in the LCD department.1600x1200, not a single bad pixel.Bright, fast, kickass.I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars Portrait Mode is Plus and Great for Movies
I bought this monitor after browsing monitors ranging in size of 17" to 21".The size is spectacular, although the price from a 19" to 20" to 21" is significant, so only get this one if you value those extra 1 or 2 inches or will outgrow one of the smaller sizes (note the resolution jump from 19" to 20" though).I was a bit nervous when I purchased this monitor because I wasn't sure if the extra few hundred were worth it, but I am very please so far.It is huge, sharp, switches to portrait mode (more convenient than you may think), and plays movies quite well.

The portrait mode is great for documents and surfing the web.I can view 1 1/2 pages of Word documents and search web pages faster.Be sure to get the software to switch your computer to portrait mode (I'm not sure if it usually comes with the monitor; I use PivotPro).I also sometimes do homework with as much viewing space of the document as a 17" monitor and still have a movie playing in the bottom quarter of the screen... one of the many conveniences of the portrait mode. Also, increase the sensitivity of your mouse (or get a mouse with more sensitivity) so scrolling across the screen isn't an inconvenience.

I watch movies quite frequently and, when viewing from 4' or more away, the only noticable differences from a TV is higher resolution in the monitor (pro) and very slight distortion with fast movements (con, but barely noticable).I haven't played games on this monitor (yet), so I cannot vouch for the performance there.

Overall, I am very pleased. Also, no dead pixels or blemishes (at least yet).I don't think I will ever outgrow this monitor; an increase in size would actually be an inconvenience for most of my uses because then there is too much to keep track of (only pros I can think of for a larger monitor would be dual document viewing and a larger screen for movies).I would highly recommend this monitor for anyone considering an 18" through 24" monitor!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Monitor, I love the ability to rotate the Screen
I saw this monitor set up in a "Big Box" store when I was on vacation and after using it in the store for a while, ordered one sent to my local "Big box" after checking prices online. The small footprint, lack of heat thrown off by a CRT, crisp display (I use the DVI so I can't speak to analog issues, but it looked fine in the store) and ease of setup is all I could want.I went to PivotPro's website and D/L'ed a free upgrade and haven't had any problems with switching between landscape and portrait modes.

I find myself using the monitor in it's vertical portrait mode, except for gaming, as both web pages and documents usually view better this way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Samsung 213T
I bought this monitor about 5 months ago now and love it. I have it coupled with a new Nvidia GeForce 6800 256 MB graphics card. For those of you who worry about "Ghosting" when game playing I have not seen it. Half life 2 and Doom 3 look truely amazing. With full resolution 1600x1200, colors are vibrant and blow away the normal "glass" monitor I had before. The monitor also pivots any way you can think of and comes with cool software that will keep everything legible no matter how the monitor is turned. The size is great and it's footprint is small.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
This is a beautiful monitor--thin bevel, clear and sharp picture, etc.You will not be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mac Compatible
Incase anyone wanted to know, the camera comes with Kodak Software for the Mac, but if your using OS X with iPhoto, it will detect the camera, import the photos and allow you to edit, print and email as usual. Currently using Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) with iLife '05 but i expect it will work fine with iLife 04 as well. Picture quality is very good, easy to use. Not much else to be said that hasn't already been said. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Camera
I love this camera! It's inexpensive, takes good pictures, and has great battery life. And I love the video feature! I did wish it came with more memory, though. But I guess all digital cameras only come with 16MB.

The camera is very easy to use. I haven't had any problems with it yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner digital camera!
My husband got me this camera as a Christmas present.I had been reluctant to go digital...mainly because my friend's digital pictures always look so grainy and horrible. The pictures from this camera are anything but horrible!I am so pleased with the quality of the prints, and e-mailing photos is a snap! So far, I've mostly used the Auto function and the optical zoom. I have not tried the video function or the other scene settings. I print the photos on a Cannon Pixma6000ID printer with Cannon photo paper.I've printed them after downloading them to the PC and I've printed them by inserting the memory card into the printer. The results are the same either way. I can't tell the difference between those 4x6 prints and 4x6 prints from my Nikon 35mm. I've also printed a few larger prints and I really don't see much difference in the quality of those either. The Kodak software is fine for downloading, light editing, e-mailing or printing photos. I purchased a 64MB SD card for it and it stores about 65-70 pictures. I would definitely recommend getting rechargable batteries for it.The battery door and the memory card door look a little flimsy, but in all, the camera seems well-made.I like the fact that it is very compact and I especially like that it has a lense cover. I enjoy the instant gratification of being able to see my pictures as soon as I take them rather than waiting to have film developed. Also, it eliminates wasted film and photos since you can delete the bloopers before printing them! Overall, it seems to be a great camera for my family.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice camera, but not well made
I bought two of these after checking out lots of reviews and have been very happy with them until recently when the battery doors on broke on both of them (after only 3 months!) The only way to keep it closed is with a rubber band around the whole camera. Nice pictures, but VERY disapointed in the quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy with my purchase
I wasn't planning to buy a new monitor, but my Vivitron21 CRT finally gave out and I had to replace it. Friends who already have LCD monitors swear by them, so I checked around and eventually settled on the VP191B. I've had it about 2 weeks, and it has done everything well so far.

Because I do some editing of home video, I was a little concerned at setup because the monitor pivot software drivers are not Windows certified, at least for XP (the installation instructions tell you to agree to complete the install even if you get a warning saying it may not be safe-I'm docking one star for that). Happily, I have had no problems with Pinnacle Studio or Muvee AutoProducer - previewing and viewing seem to work fine.

One other minor complaint would be that the pivot software seems to slow the response time some when you right click the desktop to see the context menu - the various rotation options are now listed directly in that menu, which is convenient, but it takes a few extra seconds for the pop-up to appear (that doesn't sound like much until you're wondering why the cursor is stuck on the hourglass when it never was before).

Other comments would be in line with previous reviewers - bright clear picture, sweet spot in price vs. monitor size, convenient controls, etc. For viewing web pages and word processing documents, the rotating monitor works great. Of course it doesn't really help when you're editing widescreen video! And it can be confusing to the ne
