I made an error in my review of this product.The GAC1-SS(formerly GAC1)is the 6 month filter cartridge.

You'll never drink plain tap water again.
I have been using the Omnifilter for several years and it significantlyreduces or elimates unwanted odors and sediment from tap water.My familywill not drink plain tap water anymore.Food and drinks prepared withwater from the Omnifilter have much better flavor as well.

The filtercartridge is inexpensive and a breeze to change.The expected life of thefilter is 3 months for the GAC1 and 6 months for the GAC2.I have foundthese to be accurate estimates, although you may see different resultsdepending on the contaminate level of your water and the amount of wateryou use.

You'll notice a slight decrease in water pressure when it's tameto change filters.

This single cartridge stainless steel fluoride removal water filter contains only a SIR-900 containing cartridge. The SIR-900 media is a synthetic adsorbent media that is highly selective for arsenic, fluoride and lead. Arsenic and fluoride removal is sensitive to pH, preferring an acidic pH. Lead removal is pH independent. The extremely high surface area and pore distribution gives this media the highest possible operating capacity and lowest possible leakage. It removes metals through a combination of adsorption and chemical reaction with the media; thus the removal is not dependent on ion exchange. Fluoride capacity is up to 11,000 ppm (parts per million) with effluent levels below 0.2 ppm from 10 ppm feed. The EPA maximum limit for fluoride is 4 ppm. Therefore, municipalities will not be adding more than 4 ppm to public drinking water - thus the feed is less than 10 ppm. High pH and high bicarbonate levels reduce capacity for fluoride and arsenic removal -- above 100 ppm bicarbonate will result in a reduction of capacity by 50%. Above 200 ppm the reduction is 75%. I just screwed this onto my parent's tap and did a blind taste test, it does improve the taste of the water and is a heck of a lot easier than having to pour water into a filter every day! I'm going to go buy one myself--am a bit fearful that the water in my city will fill the thing up with calcium after a day or two but we'll see, will re-post here if I have any problems.

I'm not sure what 'red stuff' the person below is talking about but she seems to be on a mission; posting it on every brita filter product. If it were me, I would have it identified by a lab before blaming my health problems on it. As it says in the fine print at amazon, if you believe the product you are reviewing is unsafe you can report it to the consumer products safety commission.

Gov. Needs to clean water better
Hmmm.I wonder if they need to return to the old method of cleaning our water like they did in the 1990's- doing it period.There are so many chemicals in our water (like chlorine) it makes my eyes and nose burn from the fumes, my skin red and my husband's sensitive skin bleed sometimes.Our water here is pink most of the time and we have to buy our water.The city recommends we put a filter on the main water valve of our house because they say it is not even safe to bathe in.Who knew well water would end up being safer than city tap water?I will have to buy a filter just to bathe my newborn in if it is as bad as they say it is.

"Red Stuff"WARNING!
Believe it or not there was red stuff inside!!!!!

I started getting stomach problems two months ago then sinus problems, low grade fevers and finally throat problems. Now I am a 26 year old who am in so much pain some days that I can't fall asleep at night. Nothing helps, or just helps a little.
Today I unscrew my "Brita Ultra Faucet Filter System", because since desperate for the source of my "illness" I decided that it must be the Dc water system. Well, I was shocked to discover thatinside the faucet mount and on both water mouths there was red stuff growing.

I called Brita and was told that it is not the product, SINCE IT IS NOT EVEN DESIGNED TO FILTER OUT BACTERIA, it must be the water. Long story short: I feel sick every day and Brita still pushes it product on people who doesn't know better.

This product is poorly designed and drains bad, therefore bacteria or other nasty things could multiply in it. Since it doesnt filter out bacteria the scenario is not a pleasant one.

IF you buy this system it means that you dont know a lot about water filters and what you want to filter out. Neither did I, you have to be a chemist to understand the lingo.
Stay away since this product may be harmfull to your health by its poor quality. ... Read more

Pretty good water filter
I received this water filter two days after I placed the order. I'm happy with the fast service. As for the water filter, you might want to consider rinsing it after taking it out from the package before inserting it into the coffee maker. Also, I ran water through the coffee maker twice before making the first pot of coffee for the peace of mind. If you have paper filter placed before running the water, you will be able to see little green particals in it at the end of the process.

Great Item, but can't find it anywhere.
The water filter for the Braun Flavorselect 12 cup coffee maker Model KF187 is a great design.I rate it #5 for it's design, but since my original purchase of the coffee maker, I can't find the filter units anywhere.

A Good Idea, But a Scarce Item
I've enjoyed my Braun coffee maker, and this filter is one of the reasons.I have well water that already tastes great, but some grit gets into the tap water, and this filter takes care of that.People often say what I great cup of coffee I make, but I use perfectly ordinary coffee, just with really great water.

However...these filters are expensive and virtually impossible to find.No major retailer seems to carry them, and the Braun customer service center is only open during business hours, and does not seem to have a website that I can find... This filter system would be a lot more appealing if it were easier to buy and replace, and also cheaper.

Works well, but is horribly overpriced!
It really does make a difference when some of the chlorine is filtered out of your coffee (and even more so in your bourbon) water, but these filters are a rip off price-wise.It's hard to believe Braun wouldn't make money selling them at a third of the price.
