Banana Accounting is a general ledger accounting software based on international double-entry accounting standards. The software is designed for small businesses, clubs, and individuals. Transactions are entered into tables where you can edit, undo, search, and replace, just like in Microsoft Excel. Data can also be exported or copied from and to any program. Banana Accounting has a DDE interface to retrieve data in Excel format for graphical or ratio calculations.

With Banana Accounting, your accounting plan can be customized. Several national accounting plans are included and can be adapted to your needs. The program language, with support for Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish, can be changed at run time. Layout and presentation of balance sheet, income statements, and accounting cards can be altered and fine-tuned. Multi-currency options allow for accounts, transactions, and reports in different currencies. Sales tax and value-added tax are fully supported. So easy a child could use it!
I was able to start my accounting work in less than one hour! I couldn't possibly find something easier and professional looking at the same time. My congratulations to the producers.

Easy and flexible
Installation is simple and clear as are the instructions for its use, so the program is soon learnt. The similarity to Excel tables helps above all. The entry tables can be defined by the user and unused fields easily removed. The (almost) unlimited possibility to enter text (up to 255 letters) is very practical. The multi-lingual aspect of the menus is also very valuable for us because the program can be set up in German, French, Italian, English or Spanish and yet it still functions in the same way.

In our opinion, the Import and Export functions are an essential part of Banana Accounting. They give us the possibility for a flexible exchange of accounting data with a multitude of other applications. The exchange of data, for example accounting transactions, is ideal in HTML format. Year-end accounts can be filed in this format and we are assured that the data can be reread many years later, even in places where the program has not been installed! Through its simple data structure (one data file per client), whole files can be transferred to another calculator at great speed. The same with problems and questions - it's ideal to be able to transmit the entire accounting in compressed format over the Internet. In this way some slip-ups can be quickly and elegantly remedied.

Banana Accounting 4.0
In late 1999 when I discovered that the accounting program I had been using for 15 years was not y2k-ready, I searched the internet for another. I discovered Banana 4.0 and purchased it.
I keep books for a small non-profit organization and also, having been a bookkeeper all of my adult life, I use Banana for my own personal accounting. It is easy to use and can be "customized". I must say I consider it FABULOUS and the little organization is quite satisfied with what I am able to do for them.
Being 75 and not as computer-literate as the younger generation, I have had need of Banana's support on occasion and must say that they are more than excellent in their responses. Once, one of the support persons lamented that her English was inadequate. Well, let me tell you, it is GREAT. You explain what you are having difficulty with and they promptly reply with the solution, always saying, write again if this is not clear. It IS clear. I recommend it highly. Worth the price (IF you get it for free)
This is a clunky program with a design that feels like freeware.If you buy a companion program like TaxCut DeLuxe that let's you get DeductionPro free after rebate, then it's worth the 37 cents postage you pay to process the rebate.The program's terrible, but the pre-programmed fair market values can save you time and money.

Terrible Program!
It's only value is the calculation for FMV. I experiences all of the problems the other reviewer had plus more! After entering information for one of my charities, I started getting error messages for each line item. My donations for that entity went from 400.00 to over 8000.00. (It duplicated my information about 20X). The items were not available to delete, but were on the report screen. Tech support had no clue, and told me to uninstall/reinstall (typical.) After doing this, the program reattached to the old file and the problem was still there. I couldn't even delete the organization that was causing the problem (it always reappeared.) Instead, I had to begin a new file and re-enter ALL of the information for each organization.
Yuck!!!! Stay away, even if you have a free coupon. It's just not worth it.

Over $400 in Deductions!
This was great, using it I ended up saving over $400 on my taxes.It only took about 2 hours to enter all the recipets I had for this past year and that was it.It kept a running total and it will even import into TaxCut, which I use every year :)

Highly recommend, I don't know why the other reviewer had so many problems.

A completely worthless product
This version is so incomplete, it is a total waste of money.
1) Data entry is tedious.For periodic contributions (such as payroll deductions or church donations) there is no way to automatically enter them into the program.
2) When adding non-cash contributions, you are reminded for every single entry if you go over the limits that require you to retain records.
3) Adding details for non-cash contributions requires you to enter data that the IRS does not, and the date field in that box is badly designed.
4) The only useful part of the program, value tables for common donated items, is woefully small.

Its' competitor, "It's Deductible" is a far better program.
