I am the HR Manager for a company with 50 employees. After having documentation in many different locations, I decided to look to see if any companies made HR software. I was looking for software that would be very easy to use, was not time consuming to learn, and had many features that we need at our company. Staff Files was the software I purchased.

Some of the features I love: 1. Auto Accruals for keeping track of vacation or sick time. Yes, it will automatically calculate sick/vacation time and does the work for me! 2. Ability to display my employees picture and important documents - resume, I-9, time off request forms, etc. 3. It will also remind me of work anniversaries or when someone needs to update certification. 4. Track wage information, when pay increases/decreases have been made, current wage information. 5. Variety of reports available from general employee to staff reports. I can also create additional reports through MS Access. 6. The flexibility to define categories, notes, departments & locations to meet our company's needs. 7. Sort/Filter function so I can get the reports I need with the right group of staff.

This program is as thorough as it gets. Staff Files has made my job and life so much easier. At the click of the mouse, I can have all of the employee info I need instead of rustling through mounds of paperwork. If you are looking for HR software, this is the one to purchase. It is inexpensive, keeps employee information in 1 easy to find location, easy to use, and saves time.

Worth it!
The $100 investment in worth it! We've had to pay our tax preparer over $800 to calculate our taxes this year. We keep good records and decided to find out how close we would come to his calculations by doing it ourselves with Turbotax Business. Let's just say that next year we'll be doing our taxes ourselves.

A sink hole of time and worse than useless
This program proposes to assist you with filing corporate (including "S" corp) taxes.

It deserves a rating of minus 10 stars.

It is hardly more than a fill-in-the-blank set of continuous forms.It assumes you are fully familiar with the entire multi-thousand page Federal Tax Code and offers no real on-screen assistance.In a word, it is a (...) waste of time, a vast black hole of time wasteage.

Besides, it demands a fearfully long registration process just to refuse the incredibly stupid junk e-mail that Intuit will smother you in if you do not turn off its relentless marketing junk.

For all of this, you should pay $100?Not next year.

streets ahead of the competition
This year I had the unenviable experience of buying both sets of software: Tax Cut Home & Business, which failed me utterly; and TurboTax Business, which worked just fine.

Tax Cut worked fine for my 1040, and with some difficulties it also worked for a 1041 trust return. But it simply could not file a corporate tax return, 1120-A. The software was buggy, it wouldn't print a sample return, and a week before the deadline it still hadn't updated the forms. Worst of all, an attempt to update had corrupted the file. (See the agonized comments on the Tax Cut Home & Business page.)

So I ordered TurboTax Business and paid for express delivery. It worked just fine, though of course I had to enter everything anew because the Tax Cut file was corrupted.

In the future, I will stick with TurboTax Business, and add a cheapo version of the personal tax software, which is available and cheapest. (I prefer to deal directly with the forms, without interference from an "interview.") But I will never again try to save a buck with Tax Cut Home & Business.

What's all the fuss???
I am not a CPA, nor am I a tax expert.However, I simply read the instructions, followed the recommendations, referred to my prior year 1120S for some minor guidance, and all seems to have gone just fine.The tax return went in the mail yesterday!

Maybe I'm blessed with a simple business model or lack some of the complications and complexities compared to the other reviewers but I really cannot complain about this product.I have had frustrating experiences with Intuit in the past but not this time.

My final comment is this: if the $100 I spent on this software helps me to permanently avoid the annual $2,000 payment to my CPA for tax preparation, then I'll gladly buy Turbo Tax Business year after year.The $1,900 difference will go to a Hawaiian vacation!Mahalo, Intuit!

Your killing me!
In my opinion, I'm sorry to say, TurboTax Business is about as useless as you can get.During the last three years I've used it and the same deficiencies continue with more being added "every day".

The most disturbing deficiency is when errors are found during the review.First of all these errors are simple reconciliations of two lines in the return.The software performs the math and numbers are entered through worksheets.However, when the review finds a reconciliation error, all the software says is something like "line 6 on form x is not equal to line 9 on form y".When you search for help, all it says is "line 6 on form x must equal to line 9 on form y", and that's all.To resolve the problem I've had to read the appropriate pubs, instructions, and forms myself.

Also, the itemization of the deduction isn't much better than paper and pencil. To use the software you need to know more than the software.

No support
I purchased this product in order to print checks on blank check paper IN ONE PASS from Quicken. Worked a few times then problems developed. I emailed tech support and received automated answers even though I requested a real person. I kept receiving the same answer even though I changed my questions. Finally, emails to the company were returned as undeliverable. I sent a fax which was not answered. This company has a great idea (printing checks on blank check paper in one pass) but the programming is very poor and the support is virtually non-existant.

Roadmap to Success

Disservice to Anyone Who Wants a Fundable Business Plan
This software is a joke for anyone who would want to use it to get a bank loan or venture capital. For example, you can set a 3-year or 5-year forecast. Then it asks you to apply a growth rate to your year 1 sales, and it applies that growth rate over the entire forecast. Anyone knows that growth rates vary year-to-year based on the stage of your business.

I won't even get into how bad the expense forecasting section is.

Anyone trying to raise money will be told their plan is worthless when they present it to investors. Whether the funding source comes from a bank or VC, they will want to see a monthly (12 months) build to a quarterly (12 quarters) to an annual (5 years). In other words, they (and you should) want to see if the cash you're asking for will cover the needs within the financing period. This software won't support such a basic, critical requirement.

Don't waste your money. This software is amateur.

Too Rigid
I find the ideas solid and the package layout is good . It is just too rigid. You have to stay between their lines and if you deviate it becomes an "export, cut and paste thing". You cannot modify within their software. So if you have any customized charts or such like, these need to be store in a seperate file while the text etc. of the business plans is kept in the dedicate Business Plan Pro software.Overall it is not a "bad " product just not as flexible as you would want it.

Business Plan Pro is a half-fast program.It has some of the functionality of Excel but doesn't allow linking between worksheets. It has some of the functionality of Word, but you can't remove a row once you have inserted a heading.For example, if you decide that you don't need a "Personal Assistant" you still have a row in the personel spreadsheet thathas to be edited later.The formula backtracker is cumbersome, it takes you back to the precedents, but doesn't have a return feature.These are only but a few of the many built-in aggrievations.Everytime you try and get some detail, it refers you to the Premier edition which costs $250.That's insulting.

If you are starting a business for the first time, my advice is to sign up for a night course on business plans and use the software they give you.

an MBA in a box
Like most people starting a business, I don't have much of a finance background and have not had to write a business plan before. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I checked out Business Plan Pro.

The software helped me the whole way through and the sample plans were a huge help. Each plan that I looked at was over 35 pages and included all the financials for the business. I was very impressed by the level of writing in the samples and used some of the examples to help with my own writing.

The financial help was enormous. I could not have done it without the software. It helped me build my sales forecast and cash flow, something I could not have done on my own.

Completely Helpful!
I completely recommend Winway Resume Deluxe because it has helpful hints and quotes for pretty much any position you're applying for. It is very simple and self-explainatory on how to use it. It also aids in creating thank you letters, cover letters, envelopes and helps to prepare you for interviews.

Very Disappointed
This program did not come close to matching its performance promises.It is basically a glorified word processing program with a few templates.It isn't anything you could not do on your own.Don't waste the $40.00.

Don't buy, not helpful
Poor, just a version of Word with some examples to fill in.Gives you start lines and that's all.Has examples of resumes that are very average at best.You get what you pay for, pretty poor.

Only for people who know how to sell themselves
I have both Winway and Resume Maker Deluxe 10 (by Individual Software Co.) I have some comments for Winway and a comparison between the two programs:

1. Winway does not have a wizard that guides every step of writing and creating a proper resume and cover letter. All it does is only giving you a some headlines and titles and ask you to fill your qualitfications and experiences. It does not guide you. It is only "fill in the blanks" template.

2. Although this software claims that it has 100,000 phrases for you to choose, most phrases and sentences does not stand out. For example, it gives you a sentence like "position as a which utilize my ". and are blank and you have to fill them yourself. It does not suggest how you can present your skills. Only few examples to choose from.

3. If you are an excellent writer and have excellent work experience, then this software can help you make your resumes more good looking and neat and tidy. But this software does little on improving the content of your resumes and letters. It seems assuming that you already know how to write and present.

4. If you are recent graduate who does not know the art of writing a resume and letter, then this software is not for you. The only thing a graudate would benefit from this software is the interview video. It does a good job giving "model answers" on stressful, unlawful and general interview questions. And the video and sound quality is much better than Individual Software's Resume Maker Deluxe 10.

5 Comparison between Winway and Resume Maker Deluxe 10:
A. Winway is for sophisticated people who only need a program for the appearence for their resume. Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is for people who don't really know the format and art of writing a resume. The phrases in Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is far more powerful, convincing, persuasive, impressive and representative. The sample resumes and letters in Resume Maker Deluxe 10 also impress more.

B. As for appearence, Resume Maker Deluxe 10 only has about 30 resume appearence layouts (themes) while Winway has about 50. However Resume Maker Deluxe 10 tells you when to use which format and layout and has step by step wizards tailoring your needs. If you are college graduate, Resume Maker Deluxe 10 definitely does a better job for you than Winway does.

C. Stability of the software: RMD10 does automatically close itself sometimes and your unsaved data may lose.

In conclusion, Winway is for professional job seekers while Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is for people who are totally unsure of how to present and sell their qualifications and strengths in their resumes. ... Read more

Couldn't pick a better software
Business Plan Pro 2003 walked me through a system that wrote my business plan for me. It took me 3 weeks to do my business plan and I can use the program over and over again in the future.

Not a magic bullet
My assessment of Business Plan Pro, after using it for several months is that, in summary, it is a tool, not a magic bullet. If you don't understand business, it could render you a fool. But if you've never written a business plan before and have no idea where to start, its great for showing you what goes into a business plan and helping you organize your thoughts.

A Business Plan Pro business plan is composed of text, tables and charts. The system has a book that gives you some guidance on what to discuss for each text section but it's not really much. The two books that my box included were: Hurdle - The Book on Business Planning, and the manual. Hurdle was just OK. Moreover, the software is a divided screen with panes that guide you with text describing what you should write and where you are, but they leave a lot to be desired. The sample business plan for my company, a small computer consulting firm, was a joke.

But if you don't know what a Balance Sheet or a Cash Flow are, you're just plain screwed. I had a SCORE counselor review 2 business plans that I wrote with this product and he just hated them. The numbers were all wrong and non-sensical and I didn't even know what the reports meant. Moreover the reports, which are automatically generated, include tons of stuff that is very high level and generic. For example, one line item is "Sales Tax, VAT, HST/GST Received," which appears to be relevant in Canada and Europe and thus shouldn't be included here. Moreover, does that make sense in a business that is a service and doesn't have any employees? Also, there were many items that were there but had "0" values, such as "New Current Borrowing." The maker, Palo Alto Software, is selling a one-size fits all package. Beware!

I'm a programmer, not a businessman. And if you're not a businessman, this is the problem you'll have with this product. That's why I say its a tool, not a magic bullet. As my SCORE counselor said, "It won't magically produce a business plan for you."

Ready Proof that 'Better' is the Enemy of 'Good Enough'
I heartily agree with other reviewers that MS Word & Excel templates are plenty sufficent for the -- apparently unavoidable -- time-consuming business planning task.

Business Plan Pro's attempts at simplicity only make it obtuse.Rather than permitting business owners to focus on the priorities of their particular business, BPP users will find themselves answering off-topic questions and dealing with other near-useless distractions that add little to no value.

Moreover, what good are 400 samples if _they can't be imported for use as a template_??Selling the software on the basis of making all these great 'samples' available (when they most definitely cannot be used directly) is a borderline scam in my opinion.

Great program!
This is a great program. I have used it, and earlier versions, to improve business plans I have written in the past. In every way it succeeds. From the sample/template business plans you can follow to the easy to use question answer format.

I would recommend it to anyone just starting out in a new business.

I have use an older version of this softaware and found it to be awkward as will many business plan software.Most bus plan software in general tries to make a basic task, that can be time consuming, but relatively straight forward, simplier.Actually a good MS Excel and MsWord templete would do the same thing.I have reviewed several types of BP software, I don't think any of them would making my job much easier. ... Maybe not for first timers
