1-0 out of 5 stars Dragon Point and Speakvers. 3.52
Can't get it to work- does mike not work?NO HELP from Dr agon Co. Who owns it now?

5-0 out of 5 stars I use this to type around 40 pages per day
Dragon seems to be an undiscovered tool.It allows me to dictate consultation notes and business letters in copious quantities without the expense of a typist or what would surely turn into a carpal tunnel syndrome. It's faster than using a typist as the turnaround time is instant.

It's not perfect.I frequently have to use the mouse and the keyboard for absolute accuracy, but it beats typing by far.You can train unusual words in no time. It's only 99 dollars and worth a shot. You have to have a computer of greater than 750 mH with at least 128 RAM.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great program but needs top of the line computer
Dragon NaturallySpeaking software is, in my opinion, the best speech recognition software on the market (and you pay for the fact). It is highly accurate, especially if you speak clearly, and is easy to train.Even corrections and navigation are easy to do entirely via voice commands. If you do a lot of writing, even if you're a fast typist, it will save you time and definitely wrist discomfort. There are drawbacks, however. It needs a fast processor and lots of RAM.I have a Pentium II 366 with 128 RAM and it's all it can do to handle the program.I got the standard version hoping to use it in different applications, but I really can't because then too much of the RAM is used and it's too slow and makes more mistakes and sometimes locks up the computer.I end up just dictating in the included notepad and then cutting and pasting. This is fine, but I should have gotten the basic version for that instead of spending the money on the standard version. If you have the latest and greatest computer then you may be all right.Another problem is that the included microphone picks up every background noise, so you must use it in an absolutely quiet environment.

5-0 out of 5 stars 99% accuracy! The best!
This is the best speech recognition program ever.Must have. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Most recipients don't get the pictures
I was very disappointed in this product because, althought it does create beautiful email, less than half of the people I email it to can receive the pictures from this software. It basically renders the software useless for me.The manufacturer states on their website that this is a "very common situation."I quote from Novatix website:
"My emails don't have pictures. Is SendPhotos at fault?
This is a very common situation. You use SendPhotos to compose and send some emails, but one or more of your recipients receive emails that have no pictures in them. The area where the picture should be is either an empty box, a box with a red X, a blank space, a space with a text placeholder like [IMAGE], or just an empty area. This is not due to SendPhotos. It is due to the recipient's email viewer. There are several reason behind this problem.

The recipient's email reader doesn't know how to display HTML email. This is common in email readers published prior to 2000.The only two solutions are to replace the email reader with an newer one, or set up a free email account on Hotmail or Yahoo where the recipient can receive HTML emails.
The recipient's email reader is set to suppress the pictures in HTML email. This is a common feature in modern email readers, but is usually off by default.People use this feature to avoid seeing spam advertising, to protect themselves from porn spam, and to speed up the viewing of email. The only solution is for them to change the setting to show pictures. In most, if not all cases, once the setting is changed, when the email is reviewed it shows the pictures. In other words the setting doesn't affect the email, just how it is viewed.
The recipient's email reader takes a while to download and display the pictures.Emails with pictures are larger than normal emails and on a dialup connection it can take a while for the whole email to be downloaded. Some readers will start to display the email message and fill in the photos as they arrive.
Web based email readers sometimes reformat the email message. This is a variation on the problem.SendPhotos makes an HTML email which looks like a web page might look because it is using the same technology as browsers use to display web pages. However, when the recipient is viewing the email via a web-based email service, there is a conflict between the email content and the web page.To resolve this, all web-based email services reformat the email to display within their web page.In the process of reformatting, the email's appearance can change and the pictures can even be moved. In most cases, the pictures do show up. It's a Great program but 3 days after I downloaded it , it has disapeared from my hard drive. How do I download it again. I paid for it with Visa card. Who do I contact to get some help. Please E MAIL TO

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive!
I was looking for some software to help a friend who is not a PC expert send photos by email. I found a review in the Wall Street Journal by Walter Mossberg that demonstrated this Send Photos could do the job.

I checked and found the original version on sale. However, I checked the Novatix web site and found a free download trial version and also an update: Send Photos Gold, for sale.

I tried the evaluation version - an 18MB download. Only try this if you have a broadband Internet connection! I installed it and it worked very well. I tried it first using Microsoft Outlook 2000 as my mail program. Configuring that led me to an process of installing Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects (CDO). I could not be bothered to find my MS Office CD so I took ther risk and installed it from the Novatix web site. I am always nervous about this kind of thing because Microsoft software is so complex and brittle, but so far it works and nothing else seems to have broken. The warnings about "do this at your own risk" gave me pause however.

The main point of the program is to enable "the rest of us" to email pictures easily. I was impressed that I could mail multiple high resolution photos from my digital camera and the software built a page containing compressed but still high quality images. Their compression algorithms are excellent and completely invisible.

I invited my non-expert friend to try the evaluation version. She installed it and used it with Outlook Express. Her first messages had the text but no photos which confused us. The problem was solved by closing and restarting Outlook Express and since then everything has been fine.

We tried some simple photo editing: cropping, adjusting brightness and so on. That is no problem and probably fixes 99% of all amateur photos. What a contrast in simplicity from, say, Adobe Photoshop Elements. A fine program in its way, but so complex! And this is the "simplified" version...

The other major feature is the stationery. I am old fashioned and go for the plain and simple look, but I am sure many will enjoy all the options.

Lastly we tried using it with Yahoo and Hotmail. Here Send Photos uses its own mail server to send the photos, but with a "sender" field that makes the message look like it comes from me. That's a clever solution to allow Send Photos to work with any email system, even if they are web based and use proprietary protocols. I have two concerns about this:

1. If Novatix goes out of business, their mail server will go away and that use of the program won't work any more. You'd still be able to use it with Outlook (Express) because there it uses your own mail server.

2. It seems to be possible to send photos on behalf of any user. This is because Novatix can't check the validity of an email address, nor whether I have the password for it. This seems to be dangerous and I did not see anything about it in the Send Mail otherwise excellent online help.

I heartily recommend this program for non-expert users.

5-0 out of 5 stars Email photos in a quick and fun way
I'm a mother of two with family out of the state and out of the country, and I'm so happy to finally have an easy way to share my photos with them.I'm not real technical and I'm still able to compose an email with photos (and comments for each one) in just a few minutes. The backgrounds ("stationery" themes) that you can pick from are fun and make me look like I really know what I'm doing! My son just got braces and minutes after we got home I sent the grandparents photos with SendPhotos, and they get to see them in their email just the way I sent them...no attachments to fiddle with...just fun pictures right in the email. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars HyperAccess is a decent communication app.
I've used HyperAccess for many years and have a lot of experience with the JavaScript and VBScript used for automated connections. If you plan to record a session and use it later it will work... okay. What you really need to do is record the session then go in an code all the error handling, branching and timeouts yourself - this makes it very useful. The wizard, as with most script recorders, is just not that intelligent.

Run this under Windows NT or later.I've found the stability of HyperAccess on 95/98/ME to be less than desirable. At work we push HyperAccess to several hundred dialouts per day and under 95/98/ME it loses connectivity to the COM port too frequently. This is not a missed connection but the software literally cannot find the communication port after running for a period of time. (4-6 times per week if running constantly) It typically takes a reboot to resolve the problem.

Support from Hilgraeve is spotty at best.Contact I've made with them took several days to receive a response. The response I did get from support were fair but not necessarily all that useful. You have to push for what you want in this respect. (squeaky wheel...)

BTW, my rating is really 3.5 stars due to weak support.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Glance
I had a need to automate a telnet script to run unattended.Every expert I talked to said they thought it could be done, but nobody knew how. After a little research I found this product and downloaded their free 15 daytrial.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Exchange is an excellent email server program. Running on Windows 2000 Server with all the service packs applied, it performs only as good as how its managed. The sever must have a VSAPI capable anti-virus and anti-spam software. Managing Exchange requires more than average network administrator skills and a good deal of knowledge of Active Directory. Additionally, Outlook clients can benefit from customizations and email anywhere via Outlook Web Access.

5-0 out of 5 stars No competition.
This is by far the best mail server available on the market - the Active Directory integration alone makes this worth the upgrade from Exchange 5.5. The Outlook Web Client, storage scalability and other enhancements make administration a lot easier for me, and keep my clients happy.

I've done ISP tech support since 1998. Of all the firewalls I've seen the various versions of Norton Internet Security have caused more crippled connecitons than any other.

I get calls weekly where disabling or uninstalling Norton Internet Security resolves problems with connectivity. I'm not sure if it's the becausetheprogram is just poorly designed or it if it's just poor help and tutorial info with it.

But the end result is that this program has cost my employers huge resource drains in supporting Norton's customers, and cost my users countless hours of time wasted troubleshooting issues with thios software, and days of lost network access. I also know someone working an a major univeristy that found that this was a source of problems in how their pop-up stopper re-wrote HTML code in web pages it was filtering and caused applications they'd built to fail.

There are free firewalls you can download that are as effective and easier to use. This one can cause far more trouble than it's worth.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sadly -- lost integrity
I have been using Norton products only since about1986, but I'm ready to switch. All manner of problems with this program never seen in previous editions.Instructions and support seriously inadequate at all levels.
I have used this version on two machines -- spent days trying to clean a botched installation [I believe not by me, but the installation program] on one machine. Now a month-old installation an a new desktop is failing.Spent hours with "knowledge" base and incomprehensible advice. Then, for a $29.95 phone call, received numerous recorded "we are too busy to talk to you even if you pay us."Then, a rude and sarcastic rep, who dumped my into an uninstall routine that failed, disconnected my call, and refused to hear symptoms.

1-0 out of 5 stars What happened?!
I bought Norton Internet Security 2004 after I got a VIRUS that NAV7 corporate edition couldn't detect or remove.I thought upgrading the 4 year old program would help.Nope!Norton detects Trojan.Bookmarker.Gen but even in Dos mode is unable to fix it.It turns out that I got an advanced form of the Cool web search trojan/spyware.Well Norton seems to care less.I emailed them about the problem with no response after 2 months. They used to let you submit a new virus discovery but I couldn't find anything anywhere on their site about reporting new viruses.

What happened!?

I guess I could pay them by calling their highly over priced help line to tell them their program sucks but they already have too much of my money.

And what is it with these guys claiming that because it is spyware it is not a virus. If a program hides itself, alters files without permission, and otherwise takes control of your system without your permission, I'm sorry it's a virus. And the leading Anti-virus software should do their job to make their software do what it's supposed to do, eliminate uninvited software(period).Stop passing the responsibility to Spyware removers. It's a virus, plain and simple.

No, I didn't install any freeware, only MS, Adobe, Macromedia, Mozilla, and Norton software.Like someone else said, get McAfee Antivirus and Zone Alarm, not this piece of worthless junk.

Am I alone in this sentiment? (...)

1-0 out of 5 stars More trouble than it's worth
Based on my very postive experience with Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Personal Firewall, I didn't think twice about upgrading to Norton Internet Security Pro. I should have. It does not do properly what it is supposed to do, and it runs so many unneeded processes in the background that it may bog down your machine, depending on your specs. It's content blocking feature blocks the most absurdly innocuous webpages, graphics, etc.

On top of that, it is more often than not too unstable to be at all useful or satisfactory. The worst example of this I have found is that the NIS user/logon/password feature interferes with a similar built-in Windows feature. The average user doesn't need to password-protect access to their machine at all. In my own case I found that this element of NIS, which you are obliged to use, made it impossible to restart the computer; instead I had to do a complete shutdown (and far too often). As a consequence, the first thing I do when I start up is disable NIS altogether. If I uninstall it, I lose the anti-virus protection -- which *does* work.

I requested a refund and was sent a Letter of Destruction (LOD), which I duly signed and returned -- and never heard another thing from them. I never did get my money back.

Neither the average user who excersises common sense, nor the professional who is trained to detect threats needs NIS. You're much better off sticking to Norton Anti-Virus (or a competitor's equivalent) and running the Windows (XP) firewall if you feel you need one. Beyond that, it's just a matter of being smart enough not to walk down a dark alley with $20s hanging out of your pockets.

Lastly, if you are concerned about spyware, bots, tracking cookies, etc., checkout Lavasoft's free program called 'Ad-aware,' available from http://www.lavasoft.de/

1-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended due to poor customer/technical support
I have Norton Internet Security 2002. I have used NIS for a long time and I have, until a few months ago, recommended it for virus protection, anti-hacking security, ad blocking, and privacy protection.

A couple of months ago, a Live Update created an apparent problem with SYMPROXYSVC.EXE that made it very difficult to browse Web pages. Pages often downloaded as slowly as 100-200 bytes/second. (E-mail and FTP seemed unaffected by the problem.) Although Symantec was quite happy to take my money for a subscription update this March, it refused to provide E-mail technical support for the product because support for NIS 2002 had been discontinued. E-mails to customer support received nonresponsive replies (or no replies), and a customer support rep ignored my explicit requests to be put in contact with a supervisor. A fax to the attention of the customer support supervisor was ignored.

Although a subsequent Live Update fixed the underlying problem a while later, I would rate Symantec's customer and technical support as effectively nonexistent and I do take notice of the company's refusal to stand behind its product even though it took my money for an extension to my virus definition subscription. Accordingly, it is no longer possible for me to recommend anything that Symantec makes.

I forwarded a copy of the letter I faxed to the customer support department to Symantec's Investor Relations department because I think their corporate office reallly needs to know what is going on with their customer and technical support departments. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Laplink bankruptcy
This may be a nice product, but Laplink declared bankruptcy on March 18, leaving users with pending rebates (which are slow to process) in the lurch.Despite this, they do not post this information on their web site, and expect people to subscribe to a service.Your money is better spent elsewhere. ... Amazon.com Review

The built-in Windows Direct Cable Connection (DCC) tool allows userstohook up two PCs and transfer data between them. But this arcane application isdifficult to get working, even on systems with the same operating systems.LapLink, the company that made a name for itself with its notebookconnectivityproducts, has brought us PCsync, an easier-to-use version of DCC that includesspeedy USB transfers for Windows 98 systems and above.

Installing PCsync takes a few steps. You might be required to install JavaVirtual Machine (included on the CD-ROM) if it's not installed already.Additionally, to use the USB cable that comes with the product (it alsoincludesa serial cable for transfers involving older systems), you need to install theUSB drivers as well. But after a couple of reboots, we had our systems--oneusing Windows Me and one using Windows 2000--hooked up and ready to go.

PCsync uses a split screen that lets you browse the contents of both PCs usingeither system. File transfer is as simple as drag and drop from one window tothe other--you can also use right-click menus to send files from one system tothe other. Using USB to transfer files is a boon to any user who has everwatched files drag their way from one system to another via a serial cable.Whencopying large files, we were able to get sustained transfer rates of more than400 KB per second--it took only nine seconds to transfer a 4 MB file. PCsyncalso supports many Internet storage sites, letting you easily transfer filesbetween your system and the online drives.

PCsync includes a Copy My Files wizard, which walks you through the steps oftransferring all your documents and data files from one system to another. Forexample, if you purchase a new PC, you can install PCsync on both systems, hookthem up, and then use this wizard to update the new one with all your personalfiles from your older system. And for those users planning to keep bothsystemshooked up, PCsync's SmartXchange feature synchronizes folders on both PCs,automatically keeping the same file versions in each.

We would have liked to see better documentation with PCsync--all the helpfileswere on the CD-ROM, with only a skeletal installation and user's guide printedon the CD jacket. But the software does a slick job of attacking what canoftenbe a monumental task--after we made our way through the installation process, file transfers were never easier. --J. Curtis ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to Get Running and Horrible Technical Support
I recently purchased PCSync 2.0. In order to get the software running, it necesitated several calls to LapLink's technical support line. In each case, their representatives were surly and discourteous. When I contacted the manager of technical support, I was told that they would no longer assist me. At that moment it became very clear where the A-OK for the technical support department's behavior stemmed from. In order to run the product takes an extensive amount of reading through manuals and help files. All-in-all PCSync is far too difficult to operate and their technical support problems are insurmountable. Seekers of file transfer software would be better advised to look at another product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Out of Date -- Doesn't Work
First of all, there's a PCsync 2.0 which Amazon doesn't offer at this time.Secondly, if you're looking for a product to move files from an old to new computer as I was looking to do, don't bother with this product.Spend your money on a Zip drive or use your CD burner drive to transfer files. The only useful help documents are on the website, there are no manuals and the CD-based help files are of the generic "make sure your computer is on" variety. The USB drivers are installed, the program displays them, but can't connect them -- aaargh!

2-0 out of 5 stars Forget it!!!!
After 2 nights of attempting to get this product to work, I finally attempted to call customer support. I used the online chat feature with a support technician. Instead of giving me the information that I needed, they sent me on a wild goose chase, hunting down tech note after tech note. While I like the idea of online chatting with a support rep, this was far from helpful. One of the most important steps in setting up the connection is to make sure that once you have installed the product on both PC's, you must then share the files. I was never able to find this in the Quick Guide. This should be the first thing that the online support should tell you and not send you chasing after technotes. I was never able to get the transfer working with the USB port, so I had to use the serial port. The program initially indicated that the total transfer would take a little over 3 hours. The time would slowly decrease, only to increase again. The total time indicated never went over 3 1/2 hours. However, the total time that it took to transfer about 750 mg was just under 24 hours.Would I use this again? Only because there really is no other choice when you are trying to move files from one PC to another. I just think that this product could be great, but it has a long way to go.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait for the next version...
I spent many hours trying to get this to work, but was not successful. I tried all the fixes available on their web site, including downloading a free version upgrade (v1.5).Still no success.

I have been a LapLink user for many years, but that product hasgrown so much with features that I don't need (and grown in price), that I had decided to stick with the old version.

When PCsync came along I jumped at the opportunity for the faster USB transfers.. but it is not to be. I'm back in the old version, which remains virtually flawless.

I have to say, the company responded to my e-mail enquiries and the product has an excellent satisfaction guaranteed policy: 100 days, 100% satisfaction, 100% money back.

Waiting for version 2.0 ...

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning:Can't say I could get it to work either.
I would consider an alternate product, I am sorry to say.I got this product from Amazon.com, and, although I have not tried to return it yet, only hope I can if I am under 30 days (wish me luck ).

How did I reach this point?I was enticed by how easy and useful it was to sync my Handspring Visor with the computer.I bought it hoping my laptop and my desktop would become the best of friends.I installed it on one computer with WindowsME and AOL5.0, and it was easy.I attempted to install it on another desktop with Windows98and AOL6.0, and although the installation was easy, it always created GPFs when I tried to run PCSync. In consultation with customer support, I've installed this (with their ministrations and suggestions) a lot of times now (more than 10), and still have yet to get it to work one the Windows 98 computer.

Customer service was notable for the following:I contacted PCSync, and left copious messages on the board they run to offer customer service. To make a long story short, customer service 1) oftentimes did not answer my postings on the board.2) had a _long_ wait time in excess of 20 minutes when I called them long distance on multiple occaisions3) before I was ready or willing, closed my account on the board, without giving me a definitive solution.Note well:my tone, both in writing and in voice, was consistent with this message. To be fair, at this writing, they say they will "have a senior technician get back with you" when they have a solution, but their reticence at communication so far. . .Well, you can figure it out from there.

Nope, although there are other products out there that work and work well, this is not one of them.Take your hard earned money, register Winzip, and transfer your data files via another route. It's cheaper, quicker, and, unlike with this product, predictable.

I do hope that someone out there gives due consideration to synchronization between palmtops, laptops, and desktops. If someone can come up with "universal synchronization" between these three devices, they will be rich.Documents to Go, also available via Amazon, does it between a computer and a palmtop, and some programs try to do it between a desktop and a laptop, but, whoever does it between a laptop, desktop, and palmtop, will fill a niche that ever increases in an increasingly mobile computing world.
