Homesite Professional
For beginners this is a good program, but for more advanced users - who like to get in, modify, and have the site reflect those modifications - it feels like wading through quick sand.Plus, if you ever hire a competent web-developer to make modifications to the site, it's actually going to cost you more because (s)he will need to use Homestead to modify the site.

Web Building Made Easy
I have been using this product for the past year and would now be lost without it. To promote my business I needed a web site, but did not want to pay anyone to do it for me, mainly because I wanted to be in control of things.After looking at a number of similar packages, all of which made claims that they were quick and easy, I settled with Homestead.It really is quick! IC Verify Version 2.2
This software is in my opinon is over priced and over rated.Our first bad experience came from the licensing of this product.The serial number of our software hadn't been entered into their database so on lineactivation was not possible and it took repeated calls with 15 minutes ormore on hold before that issue was corrected.

After the software wasfinally up and running we discovered that there are only a tiny number ofvery limited reports and none of these print out the customer's name.WhenI contacted IC Verify about this issue I was told that if I wanted thecustomer's name to also print on a daily report that I would need to enterit twice, once in the Customer Name field and again in the comment field. What I was expecting was a fix and what I got was a work around. What's thepoint in having a Customer name record if you can report on it?

We havealso found many errors in the manual concerning the operation of thesoftware and when we brought this to the attention of the IC Verifycustomer support team we received only "we are sorry" and nocorrective actions or even promises that there would be any corrections sothe next unlucky buyer will not be forced to repeat our mistakes.

I have been using Drumbeat 2000 eCommerce edition for approximately 6 months now and absolutely love it!The "Starting Points" (pre-written website applications used for examples of various aspects ofthe app) really hammer home the basics.Macromedia has a very handy onlinedatabase of tips & tricks for using Drumbeat as well.One thing thatmany 'hardcore' ASP/HTML coders will miss is the ability to view the sourcecode as you go; this is only accessible after publishing the various pagesand viewing source in another editor or in something like notepad.Theshopping cart is a cinch to setup, and the overall layout of Drumbeat isvery comfortable.I have created an online record store as well as 3 othersites - using Drumbeat for everything but image manipulation.This is agood application and a dream for people who's strength lies more in thedesign than the coding.You can lay everything out exactly as you want,right click on the elements and add Java/VB-Script to them to assignvarious interactions.Piece of Cake!

I love Drumbeat!
I bought Drumbeat 2000 eCommerce edition back in November of 1999.I have since used this application to create approximately 10 data driven web applications and websites - in 1/4 of the time that it would have taken meto create them in Visual InterDev!The user interface is laid out verywell - a very comfortable environment to work in.(One note on this - youneed to have your screen resolution set at 1024x768 to have adequate roomto view all of the elements)The "drag & drop" javascript"contracts" and "site elements" make creating dynamicpages a snap.After you run through a couple of the "StartingPoints" (pre-constructed mini-web applications/sites with explanationson how to use them)you will get the hang of what elements do what and howthey can interact with the other pages elements. Using Drumbeat 2000eCommerce, I was able to create an online music retailer site - with fullcheckout / shopping cart functionality - in less than two months!I wasamazed! One thing that some will find odd about Drumbeat is that thereisn't any way to view the HTML/ASP within the application.You must firstpublish the pages to your web server (IIS or Personal) and then open thepages in another HTML application or in notepad.I found this mildlyirrating at first, but since Drumbeat does almost all of the coding for you- you can just go with what it has propogated.

Great, but needs a rework
I bought the Drumbeat 2000 E-commerce package last August. To put it mildly, I was disappointed. The creation of non-"e-commerce" pages are fairly easy to do after you get an understanding of Drumbeat'sinheritance. Don't be mislead by the "easy-to-use" statements onthe package. If you've worked with a lot of Microsoft products - beware -this isn't like any of Microsoft's applications. (Not that that'sbad.)Nothing will be familiar to you. You will have to learn a whole newvocabulary - Drumspeak. When I got this it was made by Elemental Software.When I was notified that Macromedia had purchased it, I was very hopefulthat the problems would be ironed-out. Dreamweaver is an awesome program.Now, I'll be looking for Drumbeat to inherit the excellence of Macromedia'sproducts. They have always had great documentation and support for theirproducts. They are truly easy to learn. The present Drumbeat version byMacromedia is exactly the same as the Elemental Software version. All thatwas changed was the box. The next upgrade promises to be the best versionof Drumbeat. I'll wait for that one.

Short on literature
Drumbeat e-commerce is a powerful e-commerce and asp design tool but unfortuantely comes with very little, not to say too little literature on how to put the aspects of the site together. The asp elements are wellexplained but the e-commerce tasks and instructions come in a brief guidethat doesn't answer all questions relative to building an e-commerceapplication. If it wasn't for this lack of instructions in the user'sguide, which Microsoft is well known for, I would have given the softwarefive stars. NetObjects Fusion 5.0 provides a what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSWYG) interface, good for building business Web sites without HTML expertise. A great tool that makes the process quick and easy, NetObjects includes a variety of predefined styles, with graphics for banners, buttons, horizontal lines, and navigation bars. (Unfortunately, as usual with such predefined styles, most are too garish for business use.)

A warning before continuing: in testing this product, it crashed twice, the second crash resulting in a significant loss of data. Most frustrating, the company provided no option for phone support, and the online support was woefully inadequate.

But if you are new to Web publishing, NetObjects Fusion is still a very good tool to get you started. The crashes we encountered came in testing some Javascript features, which can easily be left out of simple Web sites. The program also comes with literature for a whole host of add-in products that make creating your first Web site even easier. This program is more complicated that it needs to be.I'm very familiar with graphics programs and this one isn't great at all.There are so many features that I'd never use.If you want to simplify things, use FrontPage but not this program

This one will dissolve in short time
Seeing how this product started out on the Mac and was shut out by Superior products like GoLive and Dreamweaver it's only a matter of time before this goes away.

Another thing this company does is sell it's old versions concurrently on store shelves while a newer version is out.This was the case of owning version3 when 4 was out. Not even a discount rebate.We had ordered several for the office.

NetObjects also bought out a free statistics program called iClicks and without notice decided to go from free service to 60 dollars a month.

This company will betray you one day as they need every scrap dollar they can find.I'm only writing this review towarn people who like to do business with reputable companies.Go with Adobe or Macromedia and forget these clowns.

Web sites with consistancy without days of class
I found that NetObjects is not only economical, but easy to understand and use.You can design web sites that are consistent as to style and links, yet dynamic and interesting.Easy to understand. If you have used any publishing program before, you will have your web site up and running within a day.And it will look GOOD!

Where's the beef?!
After reading all the above reviews. I had to put my 2 cents worth in. I have used versions 4 & 5 annnnd, I like it! It's a very fast way to deploy a site.
Dreamweaver is veryvery good but is for more advanced users. NoF is a great way to introduce someone to site building. I really enjoy using it. Some Easy Advice: Go slow at first, read the tutorial and build a business site per the instructions. Two days you will be up and running, and in two months you'll have it down. Happy web spinning! :>)

NetObjects 5.0, buggy at first...
NetObjects is a very good software package that is extremey user freindly and at the same time offers a truckload of features. You can make everything at the click of a button. I don't think you will find an easier program to make a comprehensive website out there.

But out-of-the box its very buggy. the HTML doesn't work in Netscape and other pains but the good news is that NetObjects has fixed this all! Version 5.02a is now availible, its stable, HTML is fixed ans its faster. There really isn't anything to complain about anymore. Just download the upgrade and install the free upgrade from NetObjects.com before you start building your site.

This program is so easy I did'nt even look at the manual or help function once... It is just so straigt forward. Usually programs that are easy don't offer the control, but in this area this program also exels, you have complete control over the HTML code, if you want to... So when you finally learn more about HTML this program is still very usable.

No! Bad Bad
Software tools are supposed to make things easier, right? If you agree, than stay away from Fusion 5.0. My husband and I bought Fusion 5.0, installed it, worked with it for 2 very frustrating weeks, than uninstalled it.

If you have an earlier version of Fusion, stick with it. If you are looking for a new tool to build your website with, stay away from Fusion all together.

Run away from 5.0!
We bought several copies of 5.0 ... for our little company intranet, and were horrified to discover that only one person could edit the NOD files. Ever.If we wanted, we could buy the version that would allow four users to edit the same NOD ..., but if five of us needed to edit it on occasion we had to go to the next level. .... This was a no-brainer. We are not web-jockies, but we bought Dreamweaver. Too hard. We went back to NetObjects, but used a previous version - 4.0. To the folks at NetObjects: Greed (and excessive vanity) goeth before the fall, folks, and there simply is no excuse for this. Not only that, but friends of mine that had recommended NetObjects products for years warned me that NetObjects 5.0 causes irreparable corruption to the NOD file, and complete loss of the site, unless considerable levels of backups were made. I don't have time for this, and I will not be buying the upgrades for this product in the future. We are all stocking up on 4.0. Important remarks on ShopFactory
I own a e-commerce site created with ShopFactory ver. 5 and would like to express my experience with this tool.
ShopFactory will do if you have a small e-commerce site but when you need to insert a lot of products and images (I have over 1700 products and 4000 images in 4 languages) ShopFactory becomes hell.
What you need to know about ShopFactory and they don't tell:
1) ShopFactory does not create a database driven website. Instead it creates html-files. Not necessary bad, however if you edit one single word(e.g. mistyping) in a department, ShopFactory recreates the whole site in all languages. This means that it will need to upload all files (in my case over 8000) because the new created files have a date stamp which is more recent than the ones on the web, although their content did not changed. The build in file transfer utility can't even do this job because it has not a timeout prevention build in. So I needed to buy a good and fast FTP software that uploads at night. You can imagine that the whole process is time-consuming.
2) If you add pictures, ShopFactory will remember the complete path. You don't tell ShopFactory the path of the folder you put your images in, no, ShopFactory will use the complete path including the driveletter. This means that ShopFactory is not verry suitable to use on a network and does not allow you to move your images to another location (e.g.:if you would like to reorganise your system) unless you agree to relink all your images.(in my case over 4000) Can you imagine how time-consuming this is ?
3) ShopFactory comes loaded with bugs. For example: you are able to change the language file to your own needs. Excellent, but when you do this within ShopFactory your customers won't be able to buy any products anymore because they can't give their addresses. The input form is simply not generated anymore. So you need to edit the language files with notepad or another editor to prevent this from happening. ShopFactory's helpdesk didn't tell me this, another user did.
4) Concerning postal prices to other countries, ShopFactory let you multiply the postal prices with a number given by you. However since this is dependent on the weight which not always follows the same structure as the local post , you are not able to calculate the right shipping prices for export. Now,there's a way to work around this problem, but ShopFacory's helpdesk did not told me, another user did.
5) This brings me to ShopFactory's helpdesk. Either they don't want to help or they don't know how to help, fact is that you can't count on their service.I've reported problems several times where they told me that it was the first time they heard about it and probably the problem would be on my computer, where later I could read in some older forums they have online that the bugs were reported years ago and several times. In the mean time they've released a new version without fixing the bugs.

My advise: If you're happy with a small site, ShopFacory will do. If you want to create a professional site with lots of products and images, don't buy ShopFactory unless you're willing to accept above mentioned disadvantagesand bugs. I my case I'm still using ShopFactory until I can find a way to move to another software without the need of reinput all the products and images. (Months of work went into it already.)
