No Longer Supported by Symantec
This was a good product but Symantec no longer produces or supports it. It no longer works on my Pentium computer and it won't reinstall unless I reformat my hard drive. No, I won't do that. Lorraine (David's Wife) :-(

Professional Software
I've had the opportunity to utilize Talkworks Pro for about four months and it has been an outstanding compliment to my small business. It has done all that I've asked:whether it notifies me of received voicemail, fax or allows me to setup faxback documents for customers, it has been smooth and trouble-free. A nice complement of setup wizards for a variety of functions.I have been pleasantly surprised. A definite thumbs up.

Deceptive and Does Not Work With Some Modems
I downloaded the Talkworks program on a trial basis expecting it to compliment my WinFax program. I had been using WinFax for about two years and had an abundance of data compiled including receive logs, send logs andphonebook information. When the Talkworks download was complete the receivefax component would not work. I could receive calls and send faxes butcould not receive faxes. After several frustrating hours, including a visitto the Symantec website, I tried to find a "free" support linethat would enable me to talk to a live human being about my problem. Iemailed the customer service address and was informed by return email thatI could get support for $2.95/minute or $29.95 per incident. Since I wastesting the product I thought that was a bit much. I sent another email andinformed customer service that if I was not allowed to talk to a servicetechnician free that I would uninstall the product and shop elsewhere. WhatI did't know was that if I uninstalled the Talkworks software that it wouldalso uninstall the Winfax software and lose all of my data. When I finallytalked to a service technician two days later after waiting for 30 minueshe informed me that my 56K-PCI fax/modem was not compatable with theTalkworks software. He also informed me that my data would be lost if Iuninstalled the program. Based on my experience with the Talkworks programand the degree of difficulty relative to a service technician I would ratethe program at 0 stars.

No attention to the details...
I've had Talk WorksPro 3.0 for a while now - even downloaded updates and info from the Symantec web site. But there are too many problems with this software. If you use TAPI (so you can use the modem from other apps),caller ID doesn't work. If you use the COM port directly, other apps can'tuse the modem. Too many people who call me get detected as"silent" and talkworks hangs up on them. Configuring the programis just difficult and time consuming - so many settigs to change yet can'tget it to work properly.Talk works isn't the way to unify voice/fax andemail...

It does lock up Windows 98
Launch it and it just won't work under Win 98. The whole computer freezes, forcing a hard reboot. Symantec makes no effort to help. Does work on my Win 95 machine, but I still highly suggest DO NOT BUY! ... Read more

Total waste of money
This product is the pits. Sellers should be ashamed for even carrying such a useless product. You can't fax multiple documents, their cover sheets are a joke, and God forbid you write email to their technical support staff for help because you never hear back from them. You can't even import a Word document into a cover sheet, so if you plan to use this for resumes forget it. Whoever programmed this software must never have completed the basics in programming classes because there are so many problems with this software I can't even BEGIN to list them all. Just save your money and try something else. Personally I've found Procomm to be the best program for faxing multiple documents and that's the program I'll end up buying to replace this useless Total Fax junk.

Waste of time-very unprofessional-should be"shareware"
I found this program to be a total waste of an entire afternoon. It had nocover page templates as advertised, you had to create your own in a veryawkward, slow, child-like interface. I had to fax a 5 page report I hadscanned, and I couldn't even import my saved pages into the program! Idon't know how many approaches I tried before giving up. The box saidcompatible with Win95/98, however the pamphlet said only Win95/NT. It ranslow in my Win98SE, and balked in the cover page edit mode, and Irepeatedly shut it down and reopened it trying to desparately make a coverpage. This program should be offered as a 'shareware' download. I, forsure, wouldn't have paid for it after a trial use! BUYER BEWARE!I wouldhave given this '0' stars if I could have.

Cover sheets look terrible and unprofessional
From reading the box, this product looked great.After installation, it was a different story.The box says it has professional templates to help you produce professional looking faxes.The reality is that the coversheet templates are blank pages that you create and edit from scratch.Ispent half a day trying to create a good looking cover sheet and they alllooked terrible!In addition, the alignment of the cover sheets lookeddifferent on the screen than on the actual fax printout.You also cannotimport any images other than paint images, so we could not get our companylogo on the cover sheet.Being completely frustrated by the cover sheets,I tried importing Word fax templates into the software with no success.Ialso tried using the Fax Wizard within Microsoft Word to send faxes usingthis software and that did not work either.I have advanced experience insoftware applications and I found this program extremely difficult andfrustrating to use.I would have been ashamed to send any fax using thecover sheets they had.They looked completely unprofessional.A totalwaste of time and money.

Not impressed
I would have given the program "0" stars if that had been a choice. The program was fairly easy to install and use, however, my dissatisfaction came with what was received on the other end.I wasattempting to fax a 3 page resume to prospective employeers.What they goton the other end was 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pages, and the font size was Ariel 6point.It requiered magnification to read.The original document wasTimes New Roman 12 & 14 point.That was bad enough, but then, thejustification was all messed up and some words were run together.I sentout about 15 resumes when I finally found out what they were getting.Ihave to wonder how many of them never called me because of what they wereviewing as a professional resume? It also wouldn't let me paste in my4 scanned letters of recommendation, but I was willing to live with thatinconvenience.I returned the product and took it out of my computer. I'll pay the dollar a page (times 7 for the complete resume) to fax fromOffice Depot!This was no long term savings!

Excellent performance!
I've purchased at least 5 fax programs over the past 5 years, and none worked very well until I got this one. It loaded in no time. I opened a legal document in MS Word, and faxed it as a test, and Voila! it sent itimmediately. The copy received at the fax location was perfect.I have a56KFlex modem, and a DSL line. There was no conflict. This is astreamlined, slick program, without all the extras you don't need,use orwant. It faxes. It does group broadcasts. It does what it says it does. Buyit if you want a small and reliable piece of software. (By the way, a fewmonths ago I used iCommunicate and it ruined my Explorer file, which causedmy entire system to crash. When you think of fax software, inevitably you think of Symantec'sWinFax Pro, a utility that's been around for many moons, but has evolved beyondrecognition since its first release. That said, its basic faxing functionalityremains unchanged and as solid as ever. Along the way, it has picked up someuseful bells and whistles. The new version now can be set up as a fax server onsmall peer networks. It originally integrated with Microsoft Exchange andOutlook, and the new version extends this integration to Outlook Express and thecontact manager, Goldmine. Now, you can "e-mail" a fax to a recipient--thisoddish option sends a 60 KB fax-viewer program as an attachment with the faxfile.

Nice touches abound; you can schedule a fax broadcast to multiple recipients,and set it to spool to two modems. WinFax Pro also can notify you of incomingfaxes via a system-tray icon, cell telephone, or pager. If you need to turn anincoming fax into editable text, you can do it with its built-in OCR facility;although this is more of a "lite" version, and not quite as accurate as currentstandalone OCR packages.

There's a new Drag and Drop Depot icon on the desktop for quick dispatching ofdocuments. A new high-quality photo option improves print quality at the cost ofextending transmission times. If you're plagued by junk faxes, there's a newspam filter; although first you'll need to get a modem that supports Caller ID,and subscribe to the service with your phone company. When you buy a modem thesedays, often you'll get a "lite" fax program with it; if you only need tosend/receive faxes occasionally, this is probably sufficient. WinFax Pro 10 Problems
I started with Winfax Pro v4.0 for Networks. It was hard to install, configure and manage. But it worked for me once the hard part was over. I have a customer who I upgraded to v10.0. We went from Win98, Winfax Pro 4.1 and a Celeron 400 to Win2K, Winfax Pro v10.0 in a P4-2.0 Ghz machine. Everything on the machine pretty much works as expected... EXCEPT WINFAX PRO 10!
People that have been sending without problems for years can not send to this machine now. I have tried everything except trashing WinFax and nothing seems to make a difference no matter what I change. I have reinstalled the program. I have modified almost every setting (and changed them back when they did not solve problem). I got the best results when I hard set the program to receive faxes only at 4800 baud (should run 14400). Somehow it seems to try to negotiate, then it falls back to the next slowest speed, negotiates again, falls back, etc until it either dies or receives inconsistently at 4800. I have changed phone lines, running a cable direct to telco network interface, etc. etc. etc and still no reliable reception or sending. Not to/from a fax machine or to/from a computer. I must have 12-15 hours in working on this and still no success. It still could be one of the few things I have left to try like another computer, hard setting the COM ports in CMOS, or anything else I can think of. One thing that has not helped me is the Symantec web site.

WinFax is not a winner
Struggle to install, struggle to keep working, some nice features if they will work when you want them.

If you can find another program to meet your needs, try it.

The Weak Link in Symantec's Chain
I originally bought WinFax many years ago, and was perfectly happy with it up through version 9.0. Unfortunately, Symantec appears to have overreached itself with version 10.0. Other reviewers mention the potential conflicts with newer versions of Windows and Outlook 2000. As far as I can tell from reviewing FAQs at Symantec's support website, the problem is incompatibility with Outlook 2000, specifically relating to WinFax's promised ability to send faxes by e-mail. Like me, you might decide that you don't need that feature and skip installing it, but it still seems to trash the program itself. And, since WinFax automatically integrates with SystemWorks and other Symantec programs, it ends up trashing them as well. So what, you say, I'll just uninstall all of them and start over. Good luck! Symantec programs never full uninstall, so the problem's still there when you reinstall. I finally uninstalled WinFax and replaced it with a shareware program that costs [price], is simpler and more intuitive in its operation, and actually works. In summary, wait for version 11.

Big Problem Under Win 2000
WinFax Pro is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 2000, according to my experience and that of many others. It crashes the computer when it attempts to install. Tech support is no help; Symantec either does not realize their software has a problem or will not admit it. (My system: Micron Millenia Max 1.2GHz, 256MB, Nvidia GeForce2 GTS, Aztech PCTel V.90 56K.)

The elusive support department.
If you buy this product, be prepared to go it ALONE!The technical support is not very supportive and I have a program that does everything advertised except send faxes.There seems to be a problem with the dialer that does not add the 1 prefix when dialing a long distance number.I got it to work by adding a 1 manually and asking it to dial the number as read but this precludes using my pim as a number source . ... Zetafax is easy to install and use
I bought a 10 user starter system and it's working great.I'm not a computer guru, but it was easy to install and configure.It really makes faxing easy and keeps you from printing the file, retrieving it from theprinter, going to the fax machine and waiting for it to go throughsuccessfully.That can waste a lot of time.Zetafax makes it easy to knowwhat the status of the fax is, and keeps trying to send it if it's failedinitially.You can either send faxes from directly within the Zetafaxapplication, from within another application (using the File, Print optionyou can choose Zetafax printer from within the list), or using your e-mailservice.I am using Exchange/Outlook and use the same address book.It'sjust like sending an e-mail, but it's faxing.
