I purchased this product for the mortgage amortization functions indicated in the product sales verbage.I did not look at other features.Based on the product description, I was expecting much more from it.The product description indicates "the propose of the mortgages application is to allow you to examine various repayment scenarios with the focus being on reducing your interest costs. Use this powerful tool to verify information from you financial institution and to make informed decisions that can result in significant savings".

From such a description, one would think this program would support additional principal pre-payments of the same or varying amounts.The program supports only a simple amortization program that calculates basic information. With respect to routine prepayments, the product is certainly not usable with respect to tracking additional principal payments over time, analyzing the interest savings of such a plan, or confirming and potentially challenging a lender's payoff demand in escrow. Rotten software, worse support
There's bad software, awful software, and "aw just stick a fork in me" rotten software."Mycheck Writer..." by Elibrium falls under the third category.

Installation is painful.Operation gives repeated "...dll failed" errors.Installs a very fussy printer driver called "greatland" (from another company with competing check printing software), which will fail suddenly.Installation also places hundreds of awful fonts in your windows fonts directory, which are not removed through the uninstall process.

After painfully getting an install completed on my laptop in Aug '03, I was able to print using my inkjet for a few months.(No, you don't really need a laser printer and the MICR toner cartridge that they try to sell you.At least I didn't.Banks and businesses had no problems with my inkjet printed checks.)

Then out of the blue, it starts printing my checks without the routing/transit/account number line.Of course, after a few months of use with only limited trouble, I didn't notice.(My awful mistake, of course.)Suddenly, my checks are being returned to me with comments like "The document enclosed is not a legal banking instrument".Great.

I try re-printing the checks, but now the "greatland printer driver" is giving me errors to the effect of "print command received from illegal application.Contact technical support"

I'm on the horn with my bank now to get some regular checks printed.There's no way I'm going to waste my $24 or more on their technical support.

NOT RECOMMENDED It worked okay then.........
Was working fine with my HP laser and XP, simple record keeping. Then the darn thing started printing checks from 2 months ago instead of the one I wanted to print. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANYONE. I had to go back and make sure the right check numbers were with the right checks because it was also changing check numbers on me. Tech supoort for $24.95, + per minute fees. Now that takes guts especially on a product that is only 3 months old. Shop around, trust me.

Don't try to use this product with a 300 dpi laser printer..
It won't support lasers less than 600 dpi. No were is this disclosed. Didn't find out until I purchased an $80 MICR toner for my printer. Wow! I could have bought 6 boxs of check for the price of the MICR toner alone. Waste of money!

Doesn't print in W2K. Lousy tech support
I bought it for win2000. Their print driver doesn't work - doesn't print at all. The company acknowledges the problem on the their web site and gives a "wonderful" recommendation: "Cancel all printing jobs and try again"!...? Their live tech support is [expensive] plus per minute charges. Email support answered in 24 hours and even offered call me. The guy was nice but his advise absolutely useless. After going through the routine of checking my printer's settings he sent a word file with 18 steps instructions. ... The file tells you how to uninstall and, then, reinstall the software. What a brilliant solution!... When I told them that it still didn't work, they sent an email saying, basically, that they know about the problem and have no idea what the hell is going on. Would never buy anything from this company and, hope, neither will you.

Can't get Support for issues
Had problems getting the CheckDesigner to print checks properly, the check on the screen looks nothing like what comes out of the printer. Basically useless.
I use Quicken and Quickbooks, but now the checks come out fuzzy. There is a driver that MyChecks installs that intercepts the print job (Greatland Driver), and now only 1 in 3 checks prints correctly. That's not saving any money - wasting a lot of paper. I guess they think they can keep you buying their check paper because the software works so bad. A bit slimey don't you think? ... Read more

Horible Support, Even Worse product
Do not buy this software unless you have deep pockets and don't mind spending lots of money on support. I don't want to sound paranoid but this software has bugs built into it to force you to call support. (did I mention the software come with 0 support) not 60 days not 30 days not even 1 day of support is included with the purchase.
And all the great services that the product tells you about cost additional with monthly fees.

Thinking of upgrading??Don't!
If you like your current Quickbooks bank statement reconciliation, forget the upgrade.It vanishes, and you get an extended register instead.The package says all former reports plus updated ones, but call support and ask for the old one and the response is, "That isn't a valid question."
Currently running payroll on your version of Quick Books?You can't even use the one in QuickBooks Premier unless you pay extra to subscribe to their services.
Once you upgrade, none of your data will work on the earlier copy of Quick Books.You are toast.

Rip Off
Having used QB 99 for 3 years and being very satisfied, I recently upgraded to QB Premium 2002.As soon as the upgrade was in place, I discover that I must subscribe to the Basic Payroll Service ($ [money]annually) to view any of my payroll history.None of the payroll reports work without this service!All I want is a current tax table to compute payroll taxes for my 6 employees.$[money] a year is obvious price gouging to provide a simple data file that used to cost $[money] a year.Furthermore, QB Premium 2002 constantly needs Internet access to perform certain functions, which gives me the eery feeling that Intuit is scanning my QB files. ... Dissapointing
I have been using quicken for about three years now, and I recently upgraded to 2001.So far, I'm not impressed.Although Quicken's checkbook entry system is outstanding, most of the other features suffer from numerous drawbacks.The Tax Advisor is cumbersome to work with and has known problems with displaying information on the screen.As far as I can tell, Quicken also offers no updates once the tax year changes (other than forking over another 40 bucks or so for the 2002 edition), making the Advisor absolutly useless for planning your taxes beyond one year.The budget planning and debt reduction tools are not user-friendly and too simplistic to apply to real-world situations.Stock quote updates occasionally download invalid quotes (negative numbers, massive gains/losses, etc).The car price lookup service has no information on my 18 month old car, and the home price lookup is equally useless for the other 150 million of us who live in rural areas.Quicken is also a memory hog, and I've watched it continue to slow and bog down my system over time.The engineers better wake up and realize that as users enter more data over periods spanning years, the program must be streamlined to handle the increases in data.Come on, Intuit, this is a program for those of us who want to improve and learn about how our finances work.The 'massses' don't buy your product (most are oblivious to these things and like to stay that way), that's why we have AOL.So stop treating us like a mass market with all the ads.If this gets any worse, I'll be looking elsewhere for financial software.

Great product!Lots of improved features. Few annoyances.
To all of those people who wrote so many negative reviews lately I can kindly say: JUST READ THE MANUAL!!!I mean the program's Help feature, which is really good and offers tons of useful information.Overall, I found the new look and features VERY intuitive and easy to use.Practically all the screens and charts are customizable, just practice using the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON.Most views and reports (including Reconcile) can be conveniently sorted by different parameters.The big configurable buttons on top of the screen are really nice; I customized them so that I get anywhere I want with a single click.The tabs on the right are a little confusing at first, but when you understand what they really are, they do help you a lot; for example you can switch between different open tabs (like switching back and forth to Register when you are in Reconcile), or close all unused tabs to free up the memory.

I have used all versions of Quicken since about 4 years ago, and I can tell you that they really try to improve things, NOT just add lots of useless features, as some people think.I know people who though so too, but after I urged them to sit down and LEARN those things -- they started using those features on a daily basis and they do benefit from them.I myself use about 60% of features and I think they simplify my personal finances a great deal.I agree that improvements since the last version look minor and not worth the price -- but just at the first glance!If you use Quicken a lot (like every day or so), you will soon appreciate the improvements.Investment portfolios,401k and Tax-related features are only some examples.

I'm not trying to say Quicken is perfect. That's why I gave them only 4 stars. They do have quite a few things to work on, like improving the Tax Advisor feature, developing their customer support (which is currently nonexistent), and so on.But overall, in my opinion, Quicken is the best, most intuitive and most comprehensive way to keep track of your family finances.And it is getting better.

Bloatuit (Stick with your old version)
Intuit has forgotten what made them great.

I've been using Quicken for many years and this update is the worst by far. Customer support is terrible. On-line updates of stock prices crash my otherwise very stable system every time. Reconciling your checkbook is now more difficult due to the sort view which doesn't match your checking statement. Entering data into your portfolio is harder.

Intuit seems to think it is all about feature bloat and looks instead of about simple intuitive interfaces. Maybe they should change their name to bloatuit.

Great when it works, lousy support
I have never been able to get decent support for problems with Quicken, and they do crop up too often for something I have to rely on.Intuit has the worst support policy of any company I deal with, enough to make me seriously consider going through the pain of switching to Microsoft Money (and considering my opinon of Microsoft, that's saying a lot!). Latest example: I bought a new machine, followed the directions for backing up my files on the old machine and restoring them on the new machine.This lost all my preferences, but that was the minor nuisance.THE DEVESTATING PROBLEM IS THAT I CANNOT GO ONLINE TO ANY OF MY BANKING, BROKERAGE, OR CREDIT CARD COMPANIES NOW.Not a hint of a clue anywhere in the documentation, help, or website that Intuit ever considered that customers using the online features might upgrade their hardware.Rather than go through telephone hell and then pay $... a minute to discuss it with them, I'm out of here!

How Not to Design a User Interface
In the midst of the Internet bubble it was all the rage for companies to design user interfaces that looked like web browsers. Unfortunately, Intuit fell into that trap, with the result that Quicken 2001 is clunkier and harder to use than any previous version of Quicken I've owned. Amateurish
Not worth buying. I got screwed into buying this piece of so called software that says it calculates mortgages and is flexible. It will only calculate a monthly payment no weekly payments. There is a Budget Organizer that mostly anyone can do without. As for the comparaison between Renting and buying it is useless if you want to buy and have the cash. The whole thing is MADE FOR THE US NOT FOR CANADA. In all it is not worth buying. The only piece of information that could be usefull is the Glossary of term for the amateur.
