I read another review on this product with a low rating and am wondering if they had a previous version.This product is very easy to use.We got it in the Ultimate Employer bundle.We use it to track our employee information (name, SS#, I9, hm address, ...), benefits, positions/salaries, time worked, vacation time, etc.It is very easy for anyone to jump on the system and find the information they want, or enter additional information.We have been very satisfied.Although the 50 standard reports meet our needs, we have looked at using the export feature to Microsoft Access to create a report for our payroll service.

Most of the improvements made to Act 2000 are with the email and it's interaction with the Act database.They should not have released this when they did. Using it is like reading a book with missing words.I purchased the upgrade purely for the improved merge of email to database.The result is beautiful in theory, but it craps out in practice.The whole program has become unstable as a result.I am now constantly treated to bizarre freeze ups where whole panels dissapear, drop out, and various buttons and whole bars go blank.The only remedy is to restart the program.You can expect to get from 15 to 30 mins. of work time between freeze ups.Since this update to ACT 2000 has been around for over a year, you would expect that there would be fixes or patches to fix this.But no. Instead they just released a new version, ACT 2005, to the price of around $130.I don't know when software writers decided that the consumer should pay for their mistakes, but thats what's happening here.Biggest problem is, how can you trust them to have corrected anything in the new 2005 edition. I can't.I feel like I have paid them to try a beta version of their software already.I think this software title is headed to "where the sun don't shine".Too bad too.It used to be the best of it's class. I fear that in an effort to go against Bill Gates's Microsoft Outlook, they tried to do too much on the cheap.The software title itself has changed companies several times.ACT 2000 was perhaps the high water mark.Unless now owner developer Cisco makes a serious effort to produce some solid product, there will be nothing after 2005.I myself will not purchase another upgrade until someone writes a patch for the one I already own. They owe it to me.

The scroll wheel doesn't work in searching the contact list which is annoying with large databases. When you print lists of contacts there is no control of the font size. Get out your magnifying glass to see the default size ACT selected.

Tech support: Pay per incident is $50 for the first 10 minutes and $5 for each minute thereafter!!! 5 incidents for $199/year. $300/year for unlimited support. WOW. And try the online message board. Good luck. For all the complaining about Micrsosoft products, at least there are newsgroups worth something where you can get real answers.

I've talked to tech support. No plans to change any of the above. Oh yes, ACT crashed twice before we got it running. We're returning it.

I have been an ACT user for over 6 years. I purcahsed the 6.0 upgrade due to the fact I bought a new copmputer that runs XP. I had a problem printing the monthly calander (did not have any problem with my old ACT version) I called ACT customer service and was told there is no free tech support for my problem. I could pay and receive help. I just want anyone looking to buy ACT to know that you get NO FREE tech support!!!

I love Act and have been using it for 6 years now.However, little bugs that I experienced from Act 2000 have STILL not been fixed.Like when you are SCHEDULING an event and the little calendar drop-down appears - then I move the mouse cursor down in to the calendar area to select a date- then the drop-down DISAPPEARS!?Very frustrating.

The email is better - but still does not work flawlessly with Outlook Express. It's best to use the cc:mail and enter your POP3 and SMTP and use the Act system instead - which does a good job- but not as fast as Outlook Express.

The improvements made to ACT 6 are mainly additional features, not improvements of existing features.Was it worth my money? - not this time around.I should have waited for the next version where hopefully they would make this product solid in all the important areas.

It is still the best program out there however in my judgement.I have investigated getting another program, but haven't felt comfortable with any other format.ACT has the best visual interface in my opinion.They just need to get the minor bugs out of the most important parts. ... Read more

I've read reviews where someone had an installation problem and a few more where they had trouble running the program.

There is absolutely nothing hard about opening your CD or DVD drive, dropping in the CD and following the instructions on which installation you want to proceed with. It's child proof!

And once the program is loaded on your harddrive, it's absolutely one of the best program's developed for the PC.

The only thing still missing from the earliest version of Calendar Creator that I miss is the individual pics of the moon-phases with the discriptsion underneath. I wonder why they haven't brought that back, since most calendars you see have the pics of the moon-phases.

I've happily used several versions of Calendar Creator at home. I choose a different category/color for displaying each family member's appointments, so it is easy to see who is busy at a glance. The repeating events algorithm is very powerful.

I upgraded from 6 to 7 when Broderbund added the capability to drag & drop events from one cell to another. Contrary to another reviewer, I CAN move events using the drag and drop method or by using the Cut/Copy/Paste capabilities.

In 2004 we switched from 7 to 10 as soon as we found out that Deluxe 10 can export to PDF.This is fabulous!I still print out a multi-week calendar for our refrigerator, but now I ALSO export it to a PDF file and then email it to my spouse at work, so he remembers what's up. We installed version Deluxe 10 on a Windows XP machine with no trouble.

Watch out if you want to integrate this with your Palm Pilot. I wanted to sync the Calendar Creator calendar data with my Palm, but keep the Palm address book.This is not possible. For versions 6,7,8,9, and still for 10 you have to use BOTH the Calendar Creator calendar and address book or NEITHER.Therefore I don't put calendar data onto my Palm.It wouldn't mesh perfectly anyway because the Palm calendar a) has a less sophisticated repeat algorithm and b) doesn't use categories.

This is by far the worst calendar program EVER!I absolutely abhor it.It is not at all user friendly.It randomly prints boxes where you didn't create them.The functionality to move calendar entries from one month to another doesn't exist...you have delete the entry and completely recreate.Unfortunately, I'm stuck with it because my boss likes the way it looks...too bad he doesn't have to struggle with it! ... The absolute best feature of this software is the ability to sync with your handheld. The ability to call-up any password or account info in my handheld when I'm travelling is the exact feature I was looking for, but yet have all the info also stored on my computer at home. The reason I only gave four stars is the lack of a search function in the application - you have to scroll through all your entries to find the one you want.

Just checked the demo version - this program does nothing but saving passwords. It lacks most functions that are typical for similar programs:
- There no possibility to drag the passwords to login pages.
- No Search, no Sort
- No file handling, Passwords are saved in a fixed folder.
- Only one dimensional category list, no hierarchical structure.
- No Password Generator
- ...
There is a lot of freeware and shareware that has more features. (e.g. Bagusoft Password Safe, Password Tresor, ...)

1-0 out of 5 stars Goldmine grew buggier over the years
We've been using Goldmine after switching from Act! several years ago. Believe it or not, but back then, Goldmine was an elegantly written software, much more stable than Act!

But since then the featurelist grew, and so did the bugs! Goldmine has given our software department (and please note that we ARE a software company) nightmares. Especially moving from its internal database format to SQL server has been painfull to say the least. Although we do have a support contract, the local reseller refuses any serious help, because they just wants to sell us consultancy hours.

It's (16 bit aging Borland based) database interface cripples the performance of our SQL server from 9000 records/sec to about 20/sec. And despite modern server, network and client PC, performance is a laugh. The amount of crashes of the GM client make the situation barely workable.

If only we had an easy way to convert to another program, we would have abandonned this badly written and badly supported program years ago. Its a shame. Without the bugs it would remain our number one choice.

I admit, I've had to give GoldMine time to grow on me.It is powerful, but unless you know sql or dbase, OR you have money to invest in a consultant, it can be a little frustrating, especially on reporting tasks.I now LOVE GoldMine, and this is largely due to finding a few select add-on products to make my life easier.For example, MasterMine software totally solved for my reporting and analytical needs (a BIG gap in GoldMine!!).Buy GoldMine for your business (it works GREAT for financial professionals using seminar marketing models, and for managing a sales force) but do yourself a favor and buy MasterMine too!You'll be much happier with your CRM tool!

I have used many different contact management software systems in the past and Goldmine is definitely worth it's weight in gold!As an insurance agent, I have many customers who may have several different types of policies and I may send out many different types of marketing pieces based on my internal market research.Goldmine has allowed me to customize my database to gather specific information relevent to MY agency.It is not the easiest software in the world to learn but once I have invested the money in a good trainer, a world of options opened up.It's very easy to synch with Word or Excel and export client lists to labels or envelopes or form letters.It's great for running data-specific reports and has ultimately saved me thousands of man hours and money. More then worth it if you are willing to invest time and money into learning the system and all the customizable options.

After trying to use Goldmine for 6 months, I finally gave up and switched to Act.Sure, you can customize to your heart's content but it was too complicated and had too many "bells and whistles" to make it practical for me and my small business.I never did figure out how to print labels or use half the features, evern after hiring a private tutor to help me out.I had to type all my addresses into a separate file for labels, etc. before importing them. So why bother doing twice the work?I'm no techno-babe but this was just too much for me.I've had Act for a month now and use it all the time, much more user-friendly for me.

I've been a user of ACT software going back to version 3.0. Being in software sales, over the years most software vendors have adopted more souped-up CRM solutions such as Salesforce.com or Siebel or the like, so I can imagine the interest in this product category has been lacking. STILL, the feature set of this product hasn't changed much in the ten or so years sinced I used the earlier version. In fact, this product has become more bloated and buggy than any commerical software product I have ever used. I've considered listing all the bugs but it would be too long. But I will say this, other than a weird bug that sometimes mis-categorizes contacts into groups I didn't intent them to be a part of, the other bugs tend to be obvious use-ability type things. Bugs that a half asleep QA tester should've found.

Having said that, the positives are these: First, ACT! is nothing if not a good contact manager and task manager - nothing more, nothing less. I like being able to group contacts into multiple groups, and do pro-active email marketing to the members of specific groups - that feature works really well inconjunction with MS Outlook. In fact integration with Outlook and my PocketPC Cell phone is really exceptionjal. Integration with Word is also very strong. So, its this integration strength that keeps me booting this product up each day. BUT, if I was to purchase a product in this category again, I'd buy Goldmine (it wasn't on the shelf when I bought ACT! - my impatience!). Part of the problem with this product may be that its been owned by a number of different companies over the years. Basically it has the same functionality as the desktop product, but there are several limitations when the software was scaled down for the PDA. It doesn't work with e-mail programs and it is not possible to take some data to the clipboard without entering into the edit mode. You can not dial a number from a Tungsten T linked to a bluetooth enabled telephone. It seems that Interact were in a hurry to start selling a product for the Palm platform. I hope they release new versions of this product in the near future.

I love this product for contact management.I am a Realtor and have tried several other systems designed for Real Estate.Now that I am becoming more "computer literate" I find that I can make adaptations to this program to customize it for my business.I have just purchased a Palm M515 and am considering purchasing ACT! for the palm to further increase my efficiency.My life prior to this has been phone numbers and notes on little pieces of paper never to be found when I need them.Having the program on the palm increases the chance that these notes will be "at hand" when I need them, and I can upload them to the PC version each night.Also I can work from the PC and download the info to ACT! for my palm.What a great

I type this message as I have been on hold for 30 minutes waiting for technical support.The access code they gave me to use the program does not work.This is my third day waiting for someone to call me back.Info USA in my opinion is very poorly run.They hardly care about satisfying a customer or providing users with a manual or better help desk.I am seeking a refubd and will never use them again

I can't say this program was a complete disappointment because I never got to see if it works. It wouldn't load. Neither would the second copy. And my retailer was tearful when I turned down his offer of a fourth copy to try. There's no manual and the vendor's web site has no software updates nor any links to technical help. I guess the vendor isn't interested in satisfying customers. No matter. With products like this the vendor won't be around long enough to worry about satifying customers. I'll find what I need from some other source.

This is a super program for the palm based handheld.It allows you to create a door to door map with ease.They have a fast and efficient customer care.For a busy man like me; this is what I was looking for.

I never had any need for lots of maps until I took up GeoCaching as a hobby.That activity has me driving all over into places I would never normally go, a good thing, but a receipe for getting lost every time I get in the car.

I initially countered this by buying a stack of map books for my area.At $20 each I spent over $60 on them.

Then I bought a palm.A Zire 71 first, now a Tungsten. It didn't take long before I added the demo version of this product, and not much more time before I paid for the map pack.Maps of the country for $40 is a great deal.

The portability of having them on the palm can't be beat.I put most of Northern California on a 64 meg SD card.Only a few counties can be held in memory at any one time, but it's easy to delete them from memory and copy others off the card.

The display and manipulation of the maps on the palm screen is much better than that of maps on a mapping GPS, at least in my opinion.I can also 'find' and display an address, a street, a business, or any item in my address book that has been tagged with a lat/lon.Cachemate can export into the address book, so I'm all set there.

Even better, I can get turn by turn directions between any two locations - a real nice thing in unfamiliar territory.I use that feature quite a bit.

I don't use the map books anymore.I'm not sure what I'll do with them.

If you have a palm that accepts an SD card and you drive through lots of unfamiliar areas on a regular basis, this is a winner. ... Read more
