This is a good program that has aged poorly.
Now Up To Date & Contact (NUTD) is a contact manager and calendering program written for Mac users. First written for Mac OS 9, it was the best choice when there were few options. Windows users had Act! but Mac users did not yet have iCal or Entourage. NUTD is simple enough to start using quickly. It is has a number of options to let you customise the data fields, create your own templates for letters and faxes and it can be net worked with other members of your company or organization. It can be used with Palm devices but NUTD conduits conflict with iCal and Entourage conduits. The NUTD support site lists the other conduits with which it conflits.

Because of all the ways you can customise reports, it is a great way to maintain and print an address book or customer list. It is easy to insert a contact`s name and address in the program`s word processor. The word processor is very basic and lacks most of the features a Word user might expect. But it does link the saved document to a contact's file. If you use Word, you will have to link manually. NUTD has templates to print envelopes and labels as well. There is a telephone dialer built into NUTD. Clicking on the telephone icon in a contact's record will dial the number, open a new dialogue box for notes, date and time and when closed, link the data to the contact record.

NUTD has not had a major upgrade in years. InMAC OS X it is quirky and unreliable. The servers that allow users to share files crash and corrupt their data base. The NUTD site has extensive help files to show users how to re-install and restore the servers. There is a reason for all those help files, you will be using them. The NUTD support site use to have a user discussion board. Before it was taken down, some users expressed a lot of dissatisfaction. I have lost my calendar server so many times I gave up trying to use it and went with iCal because it is reliable. In using the contact manager, I am frustrated by the programs tendency to generate error messages when making calls or writing letters. Some letters are corrupted when saved. The technical support staff does respond to email inquires within a day or two. However, they can not do anything about the program's limitations. If your data is gone or corrupted, you have to start over.

John Wallace, President of NUTD, said in a email (February 2005) that version 5 of the program is in beta testing and should ship in the next couple of months. It would be worth looking at the update. But there is a new player, DayLite by Marketcircle. DayLite seems to have more momentum with frequent updates, enhancements, new add-on programs and even a Yahoo user group. NUTD is in damage control mode and vapor ware - sort of like the Windows ware that drove me to Macs in the first place.

Excellent enterprise calendar
The interface is easy to work with and is clear and straight forward. Except for a few glitches when upgrading from version 3.0 this has been a stable program. Palm sync feature is nice, overall the software is almost as good as Entourage from Microsoft, but this app allows for network calendaring over the internet and within your LAN, Entourage does not. ... Trashes Outlook 2003 Install
I installed the trial version, downloaded from the franklincovey website.It crashed twice during install, and now MS Outlook takes several minutes (yes MINUTES) to launch.I tried to uninstall this piece of crap, but it will not uninstall.

Do not pay money for this product!

Do NOT Buy FranklinCovey PlanPlus
I have never written a review of a software product before. I felt compelled to write one about FranklinCovey's PlanPlus For Microsoft Outlook 2.0 because I hope to that it will dissuade people from wasting money on this product.

Until I bought this product, I had no beef with the company FranklinCovey. I have been using their paper planner for the last 6 years. I had hoped that PlanPlus would simplify my life by allowing me to use planning tools while in Outlook. In reality, I have had nothing but trouble with the nearly impossible installation, the buggy product, and the infuriating tech support.

It started when I tried to install the product on my laptop. I worked with their tech support online (they charge if you want to actually speak with someone). I went through quite a few tech support people, many of whom seemed to repeat the same mantra of "uninstall/reinstall" which I did countless times. I really had to push them to get them to help me. When they were stumped and they said they would research the issue and get back to me and of course they never did. EventuallyI got someone online and I would not let them go until we resolved the installation problem. After 5 days of working at this, it was finally installed. To my horror, it slowed down outlook so significantly that I decided to uninstall it.

Around the same time I was dealing with problems with the install on my laptop, I was trying to also install this on my desktop PC. I worked with tech support for about 3 weeks off and on. Again, they were stumped. They kept repeating the phrase, "We will get back to you at the earliest." I never heard back from them. Now I wonder what they meant. Was it the earliest ice age? The earliest millenium? They kind of left it open for interpretation. It's been several months now and I have wasted so much time on this. I was never able to install the product, I kept getting an error message and the installation would stop.

I can't return the product because they don't accept returns on software if it has been opened. All I can do at this point is vow never to buy another FranklinCovey product again and encourage others to reconsider their plans to purchase this product. If you are a diehard Franklin Planner user, like I was, I would recommend that you stick with the paper planner - it's far less buggy and you won't have to deal with an indifferent tech support that will "get back to you at the earliest."

Perhaps 2.0 is better
I wouldn't risk it based on the reviews here. The first version ruined my Exchange profile - now I can't have tasks in Outlook -EVER. FC Support is worthless. So ironic that a company that puts so much emphasis on integrity and excellence put out such an incredibly shoddy product. I'm sorry - I can't trust a company that would release such an incredibly bad product.

Slow, Crashes, but nice idea...
I'd wait to buy this until they come out with version five or so. By then, the bugs might be gone. As it is now, I'm using Outlook 2002 on a Windows XP 3ghz machine with 1gb of RAM, and it takes me 34 seconds to load Outlook (time for the splash screen to go away). Occasionally it will tell me it had to disable PlanPlus on startup as well. The memory usage (if you leave it open all the time like I do) is high as well, although I don't notice it much, having such a leet box (translation: fast computer).

I do give them 2 stars instead of 1 because it's pretty. I decided to use it based on screenshots alone. Outlook 2002 on its own is really dull, especially after you've looked at it daily for years. The extras (like the Compass, Mission/Values, and Goals) are very similar to their planner kits' first few pages. So if you liked those, I'm sure you'll enjoy the extras on PlanPlus.

Nice interface, but really slow
I am running PlanPlus on a 10 month old Gateway 450 laptop. XP is my operating system. Accordingly, I think my computer, while not brand new, ought to be able to accomodate the general office tasks I ask it to perform.

Plun Plus has a nice interface-- I like having all the outlook features in front of me and it's relatively easy to use the FranklinCovey tools. That said, it takes forever to load Outlook now and probably every third time I open an email box, I get 90 seconds of the hourglass. The irony is stark: this tool that promises increased productivity has become a barrier to that objective. I wish I had paid attention to the 30-day try-out period, because I would have sent it back. Overuses CPU
It's a great program with a lot of flexibility but it overtaxes the CPU.After loading the program, try CTRL-ALT-DEL. You'll find it's utilizing most of the CPU.It overheats the CPU if you have more than a program or two running. When I use the program, I have to load it, look up or do what I want and then close it or I get warning messages about the CPU overheating.

terrible technical support & false claims
Having used sequential versions of MyDeluxeMailList & Address Book over more than ten years, I continue to use it, but not without misgivings.
The bulk-mail presort feature is essential and few other affordable software options exist.
Despite excellent reviews, My Software fails to live up to many of their product claims.
I've installed version 6.000 on two computers, XP and Win98 platforms. The "Quick Zip+4 Lookup" Key Feature doesn't work.
On the packaging is a statement "If you have purchased this CD within the last 90 cays call for a free update" (to the address database USPS yearly update). The caller is given no option to request this update when calling that number. Nor is there any option available on the website for requesting this update, or even sending a message to technical support about it.
Test every function you need when you install this product and if those functions don't work, return the product immediately.

Great Networked Calendar
We have owned this product in Versions 7 and 9 for our law office for several years. If you need for more than one user to access the program simultaneously, as we do in the office, the program networks seamlessly.You could pay a fortune for a multi-user calendar like this from other vendors. If you have more than two users needing access, you can buy a license. I have seen many complaints in these reviews about technical support; I have e-mailed a couple of times and received a thorough response within 24 hours. The interface for the calendar and address book is easy to use. I highly recommend the program because of features, ease of use, and price.

Works well
Have been using this (actually version 9) for a week or so.It seems to do everything you'd want, and is very similar to the paper day-timer I used years ago.

Do not buy if you want support
Anytime Deluxe 9.0 sounds good for the money.Mine quit working on WinXP after 2 days, and tech support did not reply to my complaint for over a week, when I was given the address to their FAQ page.It contained no helpful information. After calling them, the tech support person admitted there was a problem, and had me modify my registry.The software ran for about 2-3 days, and then stopped working again.I have called and written emails and tech support has not responded in over a week.Even at its best, the software is mediocre - so save your money and buy some software that works and that the company will support.

Uncooperative and Annoying
I bought Anytime because I already had version 2.0.I liked the earlier version, but many of the things the older version had were either missing or less user friendly in 8.0.I couldn't load the files from version 2.0 directly into the new, (fortunately the old computer is still running so I could manually copy one to the other.)The entry process had a lot of unecessary steps which slowed down the process.Version 2.0 reminds you of missed date entries, the new one doesn't.

The version 8.0 has a lot of bells and whistles, like fax/cell/watts numbers, direct connection to e-mail, and a few others.The technical assist to Anytime is non-existant, either by 3 no-responce e-mails or 45 minutes on the phone.I'd stick with version 2.0 if you can load it into your computer, otherwise stick with Outlook.

This software is very good for the price
I have looked all over for some good organizer software.Places like IBM want 80 bucks for lotus organizer.This software is only 30 bucks and does everything i need, sets alarms for appointments, keeps track of my to do list, and keeps addresses.If you want some good organizational software that wont break your piggybank but has a nice looking easy to use interface, this software is great. ... Great Product -- With the help of MasterMine
Ok -- GoldMine can do ALOT of things that ACT! was just never made to do -- like manage an entire SALES FORCE!It's the Cadillac of CRMs, on *almost* every level.What could be better? This software is extremely powerful. It does EVERYTHINGa complex marketing operation would need.

BUT... that power comes at a price... and that price is being a cumbersome system to use until you have gone WAY down the learning curve with it.For MOST people trying to do their job with computer software that is easy to use, easy to learn to use (read simple and productive) you should look elsewhere.

tool for my success
I have used Goldmine to maintain my hundreds of relationships for professional and personal purposes.I partially attribute my success to using Goldmine. I have changed jobs 5 times in a large company managing sales in a channel, relationships within my company, overseas customers, complex project tracking and growing personal relationships. The org chart is killer to organize relationships, the e-mail merge lets me personalize my communication and the infocenter allows me to keep non-contact info within a few keystrokes. I used to use Act...I'm a convert.

Not recommended for very small businesses!
Goldmine is great software that looks good on paper and has a lot of built-in functionality.However, after years of using it, I am not sure I made the right choice.It is the most finicky, untested, un-user friendly software I have used.It has caused me and my employees numerous headaches with constant crashes and some data loss.Forget about customer support!You are stuck with high priced third party providers. BUY IT!!
Easy to use and does it all.For the average home user this software rules.Its flexible and works how you want it to work. For $20.00 there's no going wrong here.

It's not quite everything!
It's not quite everything.
Basically, it is a very simple version of the ubiquitous MS Outlook. There is another version, "Anytime", by the same company for...no comparison of features is available though. I discovered this when I pointed out to Tech Support that although one is supposed to add a birthday to a contact in the address book, many of my contacts are families with birthdays on different days. 'Quick and Easy'(Q&E) can't cope with this, but apparently 'Anytime' can (though I haven't seen it)
One or two other things you should know. Q&E can't collate double sided two-to-a-page printing. Importing data is not at all simple, as it has fussy requirements that aren't mentioned in the instruction manual - for example dates have to be in the form "August 12, 2003" and times "10:32 p" which is pretty bizarre (it can't manage importing "12/08/03" or "22:32")
Other little niggles - you can't have a title "Dr. and Mrs." or anything other than the list offered, and you can't resize the screen font for hi-res screens.
It took me 20 minutes to get through to technical support (on a transatlantic call!!)
We then also discovered that in certain print layouts untimed appointments don't print and some get attributed to the wrong days. Tech Support have reported the bugs to the developers
Hang on till the next version!

One of the greatest pieces of software I've ever owned!
I purchased & installed Organize Quick & Easy 4 on both my home and office computers quite some time ago, and I think it is one of the greatest pieces of software I've ever owned! I use it consistently at both places, and particularly at my office, without the To Do list side of the calendar, I would be lost!It's great for following up on things I need to remember to do, as well as reminding me of things to do on a recurring basis. I have no need to keep paper lists, a desk calendar or a Rolodex any longer.

LOVE this product!!! I am very right-brain, but interface a lot with the corporate world. I've tried 'em all -- Wizards, Palm Pilots, Time Design, Dayrunner, Daytimer, Franklin Covey, and my own designs (a real disaster, that was!). THIS is what I've been looking for all these years. It can live in my computer, but it looks and acts like a physical book, and I can make it look however I want. I am truly grateful -- THANK YOU!!!

A hotel in my residential neighborhood?
I'm actually 43 years old, but didn't want to take the time to sign up.Actual rating for this product: NO stars.A research group solicited my involvment with an interview group in Houston, TX, and used this program to produce maps to the interview location, a hotel on the north side of the city (presumably, the same maps were sent to all participants).Although the address was listed correctly, the map showed the hotel in the middle of a residential neighborhood south of Houston, approximately 30 miles away!It's a good thing I did my own research rather than rely on this map.I wonder how many of the other participants missed the interview because of this map?
Sorry, but with all the available technology out there, there is no excuse for this.

Avoid -- ridiculously inaccurate and out-of-date
This product's About page states that map data is from 1998, but their information was out of date even then. Let's take their map of Seattle, the city I know best.

1) Interstate 90 is shown as being a surface freeway for its entire length, with on- and off-ramps at Martin Luther King Way and 35th Ave. S. To begin with, it never was a surface freeway through Mount Baker. Originally, it ran in a tunnel under Mount Baker to the lake. In the early 90's a few more blocks were put underground, and the two interchanges mentioned above were closed. West of Martin Luther King Way, the product represents I-90 as it used to be, with the freeway being carried on surface streets. This hasn't been the case for over ten years and Streets USA had ample time to get correct data for their product.

2) They locate Magnolia Bluff smack in the middle of Interlaken Park. Needless to say, it's nowhere near Interlaken Park.

3) They locate Broadway (the neighborhood) at the corner of Franklin and Galer. Broadway is in fact located along...you guessed it...Broadway, on top of Capitol Hill, not at its base.

4) They locate University Village in the UW's wildlife preserve area along Union Bay.

5) Ah, Tacoma's close enough to Seattle to count. There, they still have SR-16 routed along city streets, instead of its own freeway, which has been the case for I don't know how long, but well before 1998 in any case.

Need I go on? With so many inaccuracies and out-of-date depictions in the Seattle-Tacoma area alone, I can only imagine how many errors this product contains as a whole.

To top it off, it doesn't even look good. They make the unfortunate style decision of using the direction abbreviations Ne, Nw, Se, Sw instead of NE, NW, SE, SW. Try Microsoft Streets & Trips instead--it's not perfect, but it's better than this.

No directions!
I got this software thinking that, like most mapping software, it would allow me to print directions between two points. It does not. The maps are adequate but the number of features and the ease of use are pretty terrible.

This operates pretty simply, but for the price I would have expected more features.The OCR is fair with only 10-15% of the cards populating the fields all correctly.
Major drawbacks are that cards with black color in them split into two cards.
No crop or straighten tool (the program claims to auto-straighten but does not work well)I fixed this by using an Avery (7600) clear 3 ring binder card holder page to keep the cards straight while scanning.This has helped a lot. ... Read more
