1-0 out of 5 stars NOT for a network printer
We have had Corel WP for years. We recently upgraded from 8 to 12 (we're a non profit) and 12 barely works with our network printer.I've even spoken with COrel techs who've instructed me on how to set up documents to print to our printer-- it is so awkward a procedure (not to mention totally dumb). What's worse is that it just doesn't work all the time.THings are SO bad that I am constantly called to try to figure out why it won't print AGAIN.We wish we'd thought to get the trial version first! Many others have told me how horrible Corel's products are getting.Nothing but trouble for us!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Better Word Processor
I don't have much use for anything in the suite except WordPerfect. I've been using WordPerfect since before Windows, when, if you were lucky enough to afford a 4 color screen, the word processor could display a blue or a green background, displayed ASCII characters, there were no fonts except Courier, and laser printers cost a small fortune. I work for a number of attorneys -- WordPerfect is the software of choice for wordprocessing in most offices I've worked in because, in my opinion, it is the better product for the job. It has many features specifically designed for law office use incuding the pleading macro, a toolbar for legal work, and tables of authorities and table of contents designed for legal documents. It may also be because WordPerfect has been around for so long that everyone just migrated without changing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

When WordPerfect came out, it took over the market. When MicroSoft came out with Word, I had the feeling they did everything they could to make it different from WordPerfect just to use its power in the industry to take over the wordprocessing market, just like MicroSoft did with every other good software idea to come along. (e.g., Mozilla/Netscape, Norton Utilities.) I hate Microsoft's stupid animated paperclip -- it makes me feel like a 7 year old. "It looks like your writing a letter ..." Go away! It was amusing to watch it roll itself up and spit itself through some imaginary pinch rollers when you print a document, but only once. By the fourth time that stupid paperclip reared its animated eyeballs and interfered with my workflow, I wanted to tell MicroSoft to wrap that annoying the paperclip around their cable modems!! I'm an adult!

I have two versions of Word and WordPerfect 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12. (I just threw out 5.2 for Windows and 7 when I moved.) I use the MicroSoft product only when absolutely necessary -- usually because someone else needs the document in that format.

In my experience, Word does one thing better than WordPerfect -- and it is a biggie -- it works with HTML documents better than the Corel WordPerfect. With Word, you can copy an entire page from the Web and paste it directly into Word and it will pull most of the pictures from the Web. WordPerfect does not go and get the pictures. HEAR THAT COREL!?! However, I don't often copy entire web pages into my documents.

The reason I like WordPerfect so much is that it types more like a typewriter. You can set up and use styles if you want, but you can also just hit the tab button to indent the first line of a paragraph. If you want to change the margins for the entire document, you simply change the margins. The rest of the document follows the change. You don't have to change each paragraph.

In addition, you can get to the formatting codes. Hit Alt-F3 and the screen splits in half and displays all of the formatting codes -- bold, underline, tabs, indent codes, line spacing, column on and off, etc. Then you know exactly what you have done and fix and format it easily. This ability has proven useful on several occasions when clients, who insist on using Word for legal documents, cannot cajole Word to put their unruly documents into the format they want. (This is particularly true when using OCR with scanned or faxed documents.) By opening the Word document in WordPerfect, I have been able to use "Alt-F3" to identify the errant codes and quickly repair them. The ability to easily replace formatting codes becomes extremely powerful when combined with global search and replace commands.WordPerfect can then save the document in Word/RTF format with the problems fixed.

Working with columns is also easier. You turn on columns and tell it how many colums you want, set the width of each, and the space between them, and away you go. You have four types of columns to work with -- newspaper, balanced newspaper, parallel and parallel with block protect. It handles columns much better. I've tried the other software, and if you change text or printers, you can never get the columns to line up the way you want it. With Word, each colum change or page change seems to introduce new control codes, and a complete set of formatting, and you can never get it back the way you want it. I once tried to scan in a list of names and addresses which were in two or three columns into Word. Each name and address was placed in its own text box. I could never work with it.

The most prominent change between WP 10 and 12 is the workspace manager which allows you to switch between legal mode, original (classic) WordPerfect 5.1 mode (with the blue screen), legal mode, standard WordPerfect for Windows mode and Word mode. They have also included the ability to publish to Adobe PDF, HTML, and RTF/Word formats.

This is full featured software, and does everything I need. It handles tables, tables of content, tables of authorities, column sorts -- everything I need in a law office. Graphics can be dropped in with a click of the mouse. I'm considered to be almost an expert, and there is a lot I don't know!

Take time to get to know the software and you'll be glad you purchased it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than MS Office
WordPerfect 12 is better than Office in that it is far more user friendly, has more features and is faster and less likely to crash. You can also use WordPerfect on most operating systems, which you cannot do with MS Office.People ask, why use Corel when you can just use Office? The answer is that it is better in every single way than Office, and if you don't believe it, try it yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Far superior to any other office package!
So, the "whole world" used Microsoft Office. Why should you buy this if it is just the same thing?First, I am pretty sure this is a bit cheaper than microsoft.Second, you can save any Corel file into office format to be compatible with the world.Third, Corel customer support is much more friendly. Finally, The corel software package is far superior.Specifically . . .

Wordperfect:The word processor that is far superior to MS Word or any other that I have used.If you do nothing but type plain text, anything will work for you, even wordpad. However, as soon as you want to FORMAT with columns, tables, graphics, special characters, or anything fancy, WORDPERFECT is the best. You can type alt-F3 within the program to "reveal codes."This makes it so that you can see exactly what the program is doing. I "fluent" in literally dozens of different word processors and nothing gives you the power and control of wordperfect.I can get the job done with anything, but wordperfect saves me tons of time, and makes my life so much easier.

Quatro Pro:A spreadsheet program similar to microsoft excel.I do prefer this program over excel, but honestly I don't find it any better than excel. One advantage over excel is everybody else is using it.

Presentations: Similar to Mirosoft Powerpoint. This is another superior program. It can open powerpoint files. The huge advantage is the ease of use and the power to create great presentations in a little time.Often a program like this is something on your laptop, in which case, it doesn't matter if you have Powerpoint or not.If you create you presentations at home and present them on another computer, Presentations will save things in powerpoint format. You can download a free powerpoint viewer to make sure the conversion really worked.Every conversion I have ever done worked perfectly.

Conclusion, the corel suit is a better program. The program is faster, more efficient, more user friendly, makes smaller file sizes, and overall causes less stress. My advice: buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best word processor for a bargain price
WordPerfect is more intuitively user-friendly than MS Word, and really grows on you as you realize this.Example #1: the "Reveal Codes" View option, which you'll love if you ever have trouble figuring out a formatting complexity.Example #2: Menu items are laid out logically - such as page formatting, which is listed under the "Format" menu, not the "File" menu!Example #3: the User Agreement gives you more leeway on how you use the program. There are more examples, but the best advice I can give is to try it - it's a real bargain. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not good for math
I take courses with lot's of formulas in the notes.OneNote lacks a convenient method for entering formulas.Drawing a formula also looks very ungly. The concept is good, but it still needs a fair bit of work to make it practical for every student. The free form note taking features is handy, but I suspect a page layout software would work better than one note at the moment.Given the high price tag, I suggest science and math students try out the software before buying.

3-0 out of 5 stars More than One Question for OneNote
Above all, a notetaking program is supposed to make it easy to organize and find notes. With that purpose in mind, certain omissions in the program startle.

Ordering notes within a section is as easy as it should be, but why did Microsoft make it hard to organize across sections and even harder to organize across folders? You can transfer a note from one section to another, but you cannot transfer it to a specific location within the section in a single operation. To transfer between folders, you have to use ordinary drag and drop. Software is supposed to make these processes easy, not complicate them with an anachronistic imagry of paper sections.

Organizing and reorganizing is of the essence for notetaking, and the Office suite, of which OneNote is part, has a multi-clipboard. Why did Microsoft omit giving OneNote access to the Office clipboard, when OneNote is the Office product that needs it most. The functionality is already present in Office; Microsoft had to go out of its way to omit this functionality for OneNote.

The saving grace of OneNote is that the underlying technology is very powerful. It gives you the ability to take notes by various means and to put them anywhere you want on the page. The core technology is powerful, but the feature set MS has chosen to develop lacks a rational foundation and appears impulsive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Simpleminded approach to notetaking
MS OneNote 2003 program is not completely ready for use on the tablet.Even though
the Journal notetaking software that comes with Windows XP Tablet Edition is simple, it
is better than OneNote.OneNote tries to organize notes through a series of vertical and
horizontal tabs, which would be a great idea if it didn't get in the way.Instead of helping,
these tabs actually make notes difficult to retrieve. Also, while tabs may be useful for
traditional notebooks, the usefulness of tabs does not carryover to the tablet. It was
simpleminded of Microsoft's OneNote product managers to carryover traditional
notebook features to the tablet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Get Personal with Your Information.
OneNote is exactly what the name says. Its a note taking application that is used to gather notes. Its also a great companion for the Tablet PC, because of its tight integration with hand-writing recognition, which on the Tablet is called "Ink".

Some say that OneNote sounds like a great application in theory, but does it have all the potential in practice? Well, I think so, its a great organizer for persons who take a lot of notes and really want to get that information centralized and organized in one place. The tight integration once again with Office is always a winner. But, its the connection with hardware such as Tablets that give it a further boost. The handwriting recognition technology makes it a great companion for Tablet Users. OneNote, also being a 1.0 application has a long way to go, lack of such built in features such as a ruler and Office Drawing tools, make the application seem limited in some sense.

The applications still retain some advantages, with features for recording 7 min voice clips to add to your notes, so if you are a student in Class or a employee in a business meeting, this is a excellent feature for capitalizing on your information more effectively.

OneNote has tight integration with the web, and there is place for it on the desktop PC too. Users can drag tiny snippets of information they needs from Internet websites into the QuickNotes panel, which sits in the System Tray of Windows. All that information is stored in the My Notes folder in your My Documents folder. I personally consider this wonderful flexibility and ease of use. Users can later aggregate the information, annotate in a easier way when fully opened into the OneNote Application.

So, OneNote does have its place on both the Desktop, Laptop and of course the Tablet. So, for users who want to be more personal and up close with their information, this is the opportunity.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not impressive.
Onenote came with my new laptop (so I didnt have to put down almost $200 on it) I find ascollege student, it's too much of a hassel to type instead of writing the old fashion way. I used Onenote to take notes on a movie for a class and it was a hassel. Also there's no way to save. If you want to type your note save money and use Word instead. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed with the Resume Maker Software
I recently purchased this software from Amazon, and I've been experiencing technical problems from the moment it was installed on my computer. I am using the program at work, on my brand new Dell system, and it just won't act right! The print preview function creates error messages, and when I printed my resume the software placed weired lines and boxes on my resume.I've contacted tech support, and they are unsure as to what the problem might be. They've asked me to switch printers, remove the software, and then install the software. We've been going back and forth for about 2 weeks. I've used a previous edition of Resume Maker and I had technical problems with the software, but I assumed it was because my computer was a bit older.
As for the content of the software, I do feel that it offers some useful information. You are provided with a resume coach, with tips on the types of resume that may suit you. I'm giving this product 3 stars because of the quality of the software.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed by poor quality software...
I was very disappointed by this software. Sure it has some good features (that's why I gave 2 instead of 1) but the built in word processor is terrible (Nope, I was not expecting another MS Word but at least expected consistency between various features/parts of the software).

One of the supposedly great features of Resumemaker is the ability to preserve some general formatting if you choose to (e.g.) send the resume as plain text (an important thing mind you) in an e-mail. It does so by offering a number of styles for formatting your Resume.

For example, for the Summary section, you can choose a bulleted list as formatting style. Resumemaker would create one card for each bullet item you create. If you send the Resume as plain text in an e-mail, Resume maker would format each of these bullet items with a * in front. This is all nice and good, but for Rich Text Formats, you lose the ability to highlight individual words/phrases (you have to highlight the whole bullet!) So, for MS Word formatted resumes, you just cannot have bold words/phrases that call attention (I want to note here that if your style is paragraph, Resumemaker would allow highlighting of individual words or phrases).

5-0 out of 5 stars RESUME MAKER SAVES THE DAY, MONTH, YEAR, CAREER!
I just received an offer for a "dream" job.I would attribute part of this success to Resume Maker Career Edition.Originally I wasn't going to get an interview because the interviewers weren't impressed with my resume. However, after one of the potential candidates couldn't meet, they approached me for an interview.I decided to run to Office Max and look for Resume software.Your product came highly recommended.I downloaded it into my PC and went to work. When I arrived at the interview, I gave them a new revised version of my resume. They were extremely impressed. The next thing I know I'm asked to fly to NJ for a second interview. This time I was meeting with upper level Executives.I used the Virtual Interview and practiced, practiced, practiced!!Well, apparently it worked!I got word yesterday that I will be receiving a final offer within 3 days. This position is a sales position where I will earn 6 figures my first year. This software had a hugh impact on my future.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Career/Resume Software Ever!!!
I've been looking for a software program like this forever! More than just resumes, this product helps you with 1) Career Planning & Assessment 2) Resumes and Cover Letters 3) Find Job Openings and Companies 4) Interview and Salary Negotiation 5) Career Coaching and Advice. Finally, no-hassle software that's easy to use, and really helps me land the career of my dreams. Within 3 weeks of using this software, I landed 10 new job offers and put myself into a career I really love!!! Finally. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just might make you rich!
For anyone who knows me, it's no secret that I would love to be a screenwriter. Will that dream ever happen?Who knows, but until it does I'm content to practice what I feel is my true gift, reviewing. But while I'm honing my craft as a reviewer, hoping to be published one day, I still like to work on my other dreams, like screenwriting (and stand-up comedy).

That's where this program comes in handy.I type in my characters and locations, and it helps me input them automatically, saving loads of time while I write. In fact, the software is so easy to use, I completed two screenplays within a week of owning it: "The Next Karate Kid, Part II", and "Stardrivers", which is about an intergalactic space race to the sun.I'm now working on a Howdy Doody feature film, an action film called "Bloodthirsty" that I think could be Scott Baio's "Pulp Fiction", and "Stardrivers 2".It's helped me realize that I really am a truly gifted writer, and that everyone who has doubted my abilities was just a hurdle on my way to success.

Are there any flaws in the program?Well, it's a little disappointing that the software doesn't come with any screenplay ideas built in, to help with the writer's block that occasionally sets in.But for us creative types, I guess that's not needed - we've always got new and fresh ideas! This software is not for everyone, though - for the vast majority of you reading this, you'll never see a screenplay published, so perhaps you should consider another hobby or long-term project. This type of thing is mainly for those of us who truly have a future in the business, not the pretenders.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this to import a script from MS Word and have been very disappointed. It's not very intuitive, lacks a clear description of the elements and has limited help functions. I am used to using MS Word and found this very frustrating. I just wanted a simple program without all the bells and whistles of the more expensive products, but am disappointed in this. Perhaps it could be different if I was starting from scratch and hadn't imported my script.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, great Tech Support!
I entered the Project Greenlight screenwriting contest three years ago and needed a program immediately so I could retype my screenplay into the exactly perfect formatting of "standard industry format," which was a rule of the Project Greenlight Contest (a rule they never enforced). I didn't have money to buy a program at that time and discovered that Hollywood Screenwriter had a free trial period so I downloaded it.

I somehow missed the part where either the free trial did not allow saving or if it did, I didn't understand how to do it. I had no problem whatsoever using Hollywood Screenwriter, it was easy to understand right from the start. But the deadline to enter the contest at Project Greenlight was only one more day away and there I was, stuck with a screenplay that I could not save to the required .pdf format.

I got in touch with Tech Support and these guys were absolutely wonderful and supportive of me. They emailed back and forth with me for half the night, trying to figure out how to get my script to .pdf format. They finally hit on the idea of saving my script to .rtf then going to Adobe for their free conversion to .pdf. Although the Adobe conversion alters page breaks, that's not Hollywood Screenwriter's fault.

I will never forget how nice their Tech Support was and how much effort they put into helping me and I was only using the free trial version! There are many companies out there who wouldn't go to all that bother even for their paying customers.

If there is any part of this software's interface that you don't "get," or if you have any problems at all, be assured that their Tech Support will go to any lengths to help you. I wouldn't worry about the interface, though. As I stated, it is very easy to use, very quick to learn.

Not having to worry about formatting really frees up your creativity. I do recommend this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars A cheap program with some big gotcha's
Sure, this program is [cheap] compared to [the expensive] Movie Magic Screenwriter 2000 or Final Draft, but this program is so loaded with technical glitches and gotchas that I can't recommend it unless you're planning to write and print a single short screenplay for a school assignment or something like that. The documentation says you can export your text into other programs, but you can't! So whatever you write is locked into this limited-feature program forever, unless you want to retype it all. There are lots of other things promised by the manual or box cover but not delivered in the program. If you have any fantasies of actually writing and selling a screenplay, don't buy this product. Save your money and buy one of the industry standard programs instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars I know why the other reviewers hated this product-I LOVE IT
This software is great for writing scripts for movie you want to sell or make yourself! It is so easy to use just press TAB and ENTER to go to diffrent sections of the script. The reason why other reviewers disliked this product was because they didn't have the upgate. Just ... download a small upgrade so it will work on all the computers it says it will and will not give you an Error 32 message. This program is great for all users! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Make sure it was in your box!
I ordered a Gateway computer last October, and decided to install some updates this August. The updater asked for the disc and to my surprise, it wasn't with the software Gateway included with my system.I thought it was the 'Applications Disc', but it wasn't. I contacted Gateway and they informed me that they could have only provided it to me if I had notified them within 30-90 days of receiving my system. Therefore, I have to buy it all over again, especially since my version of Word won't work because I started to install the update without the disc!

Just a warning to everyone, make sure you have everything you're supposed to have right away.I'd even take your Gateway computer to a Gateway store and have them verify that everything is included.Or just don't buy from them at all.

So besides not working if you don't have the disc,This Suite is pretty decent, I really like the Streets application (but it doesn't work if you don't have the disc)

2-0 out of 5 stars Word 2002 - if you upgrade to it say goodbye to macros!
Microsoft Word is a very good word processor, but if you use to work with macros, I strongly advise against upgrade to Word 2002. This version of the most famous word processor seems to be a step back instead forward. At least my experience with it says so.

In older versions of Word you are able to record macros by performing a sequence of actions. In Word 2002 you can do the same, but with one important difference: macro does not remember font attributes like underline, italic, bold, style, font etc. If you're a PC guru you may probably be able to repair such incomplete macro by entering Visual Basic Editor, but if you aren't, you'll probably be helpless.

Word 2002 has also some other bad characteristics. One of them is the size of its files. A 34 Mb Word 97 file fattened to enormous 49Mb in Word 2002 and a 55 Kb file to 70 Kb.
Another is a fact that almost all of the Spelling&Grammar and Auto Text options are turned on by default. If you're not an English or an American, you need to do a lot of clicking before you can begin to work with Word normally. And poor you if you don't know what to turn off to make auto corrections and other disturbing features disappear. Try to imagine what happens if you write in Slovenian language with the English spell checker turned on! Microsoft should bear in mind that only (small) part of the world is English speaking and writing.

There are also some troubles with cut and paste (Clipboard memory seems to be unreliable).

PS
I gave Word 2002 4 stars for its basic word processing features, but only 1 star for its macros and reliability.

2-0 out of 5 stars software user from chicago IL from user in Seattle,WA
Hi, Very interesting about office/word 2002. We just installed XP and I can't print from Word now. No problems with anything else just office 97 and I installed the drivers? So is there any word or office system that will work? I need to study Excel for a job? Software user in Seattle, WA. THanks!

1-0 out of 5 stars More Bugs than a Raid Commercial
I am a CIO and a writer, and a heavy user of MS-Word. When I upgraded to XP, I began having quirky problems with Word, so I decided to upgrade to Works 2002. Bad decision on my part. Now I have even more problems than before. On Word: Strange white boxes, sometimes with text and icons, pop up randomly, blocking my text. It takes a reboot to clear. This usually happens if more than one document is open. Lines of text are displayed duplicated. This happens regularly. Scrolling the text will remove this, but just as often duplicates lines somewhere else. If you have been using Internet Explorer, and close the last document window, planning to open another, Word shuts down unexplainably. It does not do this if you haven't used Word and IE concurrently. It now takes significantly longer to open and close either Word itself or documents. I have a fast CPU, tons of memory, and since upgrading I'm constantly waiting on Word. Also, once again MS has redesigned the interface, making it even more cumbersome than before. If you know zero about computers, it probably makes it easier to use. But if you're anything other than a raw neophyte, it's going to take you longer than before to do whatever it is that you wish to do. With the Calendar, it will no longer print if you start the calendar from a shortcut, but will print if you take the several extra steps to start it from the Works icon. Also, since installing Works 2002, Internet Explorer now has a problem. A dialog box pops up saying there was a error and asking if I want to debug. Regardless of what I answer, it just keeps looping and popping up the dialog box. Again, a reboot is required to clear the problem. I've downloaded all the current updates, including device drivers for my video, sound, and printers, and the problems are still here. I don't think this product is ready for primetime yet. In fact, I have far more reboots since installing Works 2002 under XP, than I did using the original Works under Windows ME.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck; don't believe the side of the box
The side of this box has caused me much confusion. It says--as does Microsoft's own product page--that this is an UPGRADE, and that you must have a previous copy of Works or Word to run it. Not true. It runs fine as a stand-alone,...As for the product itself, you get MS Word, Works, and several other programs for ... well, Amazon.com never lets you talk about price on their web site, but let's just say it was a two-digit figure, and a low one at that. Why pay more for a stand-alone of Word that's exactly the same, a program whose cost is well in the three-digit range? Makes no sense to me. I'm tempted to say Bill Gates has no business sense, only he's a billionaire and I'm not. Anyway, I consider the other programs to be mostly gravy, but I must say Picture It! is about as useless as they come and if you are serious about tweaking your scans and online photos I'd recommend a more heavy-duty program like PhotoShop or CorelPaint. This program was designed for someone with a triple-lobotomy. Dumbed-down doesn't begin to describe it. Street & Trips seems like it'd be useful for planning a vacation by car, so I'll undoubtedly give that a try this summer. By registering online you become eligible for updates, so I'm *assuming* they'd update roads and maps as they change. That would make sense anyway. Don't really have much use for the money program. Haven't tried the encyclopedia yet...Again I'd assume it is updated online every so often. Would be the main way a computer encyclopedia would be more useful than a book one, at least.

As for the whiney review below me that stated he had to download a bunch of useless stuff on his computer just to get word, he neglected to mention (or was too stupid to follow the directions to learn that) you can customize the install, and only download the programs you want, so he could have just downloaded Word if that's all he wanted. And getting a full-blown version of Word for [that very reasonable two-digit price again] is well worth it.

They just could have given us such a better Picture Editing program, if they wanted. They should be ashamed of what they include here, with its headache-inducing, nerve-jangling Flash animations and loud, popping sound effects. There is a way to turn them off and bypass all the silly childish animation, but they don't tell you how; you have to poke around yourself. (In the animation screen itself, right-click and uncheck the animation boxes that are chosen by default. Next time you fire up the program, no obnoxious animations. Repeat this right-click technique for every annoying animation screen you come across as you use the program.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Neat Programs....however
I installed this suite on an IBM with a stripped hardrive and only Pro 2000 operating system present .I could not have been happier.Word provides much more versatility than the Works word processor and is wonderfully integrated as a companion to task launcher and enhanced spreadsheet capability.Digital photography is fun with Picture It! however I ended up using Pixela from Sony most of the time as a more convenient application for my camera. Encarta is always first class and Money took a long time to update my records for the year from scratch...but was easy, accurate and intuitive to use.I just bought a new computer with Home Edition XP and am terrified to install this suite which duplicates many areas of XP...but I really miss using Word and will tough it out with some of the problems others have experienced. This is a great product!

After installing software restart cpu and NAV will go back to auto protect automaticaly. If it doesnt simply right click Nav icon again and then click enable auto protect

1-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft works 2003
I loaded Word 2002 only. It caused the processor to run at 100% all the time that word was active. It would take 30 to 120 seconds to type one character then another or to click on a tool bar item and have it open. All service packs were installed, and didn't cure the problem. When I deleted Works from My computer it caused all WMF files to show up in oriental letters. This program like most Microsoft software it is over priced, buggy and a waste of money. LONG LIVE WORD PERFECT! My computer is running Win. 2000 PRO, service pack 3, 512meg of memory and an AMD 750 Processor. Also jpg. wmf, gif files would no longer work with thumbnail views.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull product, well worth the investment
As a 20 year old high school graduate chasing after my career, I just finished the second of three interviews for an entry-level position within my career. I would like to sincerely thank you for your outstanding product, my resume is what has gotten me this job. In fact, the managers haven't reviewed my application and one thing that got me the interviews and the job is my resume. Before hand I had no clue how to write a resume, but with the samples and the added advice, I've created a resume that has not only surprised me, but has gotten me a job that will greatly benefit my career. I sincerely thank the professionals of Individual Software for there powerfull, easy to use product. It was well worth the investment, and I will try to convince others the same!

5-0 out of 5 stars Resume Maker Professional 11
By using the "Resume Maker Professional 11" I was able to successfully obtain a Federal job that I don't think I could have otherwise obtained. All ten modules were extremely
informative and professional in helping me prepare a resume that adequately reflected my skills, talent and
expertise. Also, by using the "Salary Finder" I was able to negotiate a satisfactory salary.By keeping
all my records and information in this one file on the CD, the data is readily available whenever I need it.
I recommend the "Resume Maker" to anyone interested in improving their profession skills whether they are
looking for a change in employment or not.
Respectfully,
Robert J. May

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Updated
The best part of this program is that it offers a variety of formats to use to write your resume. However, if you dare use the "Resume Caster" option, you'll get your email address sent to many different online employment agencies that will then send you job offers that are not even in your field. The end result is that you have a whole new set of spammers flooding your email box constantly. In addition, the salaries that they quote for some jobs are over 10 years old! So if you wanted to find a current salary range for the job you're seeking, you'll know what the WERE ten years ago. There are other parts of this program that are decent and I think it's worth a purchase for some people.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO Not Bother
The drop-down menus are not specific enough for different job titles, I have a M.S. in Chem. Eng, my choice from Resume Maker is chemical technician.Graphics do not export to a Word format. Resume Caster i.e. send one resume to multiple job sites, is very limited and useless if your are experienced in your area of work.Software locks-up often. Waste of Money. I wish I could get a refund.

5-0 out of 5 stars Resume Maker Deluxe 2004 Version 11
Much better than I anticipated.Frustrated at first, because I too could not import my resume from a MS Word document, & had to enter the data myself (poor me).BUT, it is was well worth the effort!Pleasantly surprised with this OUTSTANDING product that was worth every penny. My only regret is not using this software sooner. One caveat: my computer is rather new, and I have a very fast Internet connection. Therefore, I am not sure I can recommend this product to everyone. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars works by itself
The program itself installed fine, but I need to print envelopes, wich some genuis did not program in, I use the other programs, but was forced to uninstall the works and go back to my older version. If you need spread sheets and the like it is fine but keep your old works it is much better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Is it an upgrade or can it be a stand alone program?
I just recently purchased Microsoft Work Suite 2004 and haven't even open the box yet because I am confused about what is needed to run the program. It seems that it is not a stand alone program, but an upgrade to many different types of word processing programs. Can I install it and run it without other word processing software? Is it an upgrade?

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought this for the Microsoft Word software
My computer(2001) model, HP. Walmart special, came with Microsoft Works 2001 installed on it.
My husband is starting a new job and to send his reports in he needed WORD, so this employer could open the attachment. they couldn't open the attachment being sent in Works, because I didn't have Word.
So far I have just installed the upgrade for Works 2004 and Word 2002.I think it is going to be just what we needed.
I am thankful that my computer came with Works preinstalled, because on the side of the box it states:
Microsoft Works Suite 2004 is an upgrade to Works, Word, or other word processing programs.
To be elgible for Microsoft Works Suite 2004, you must be a licensed user of any of the following applications:
Microsoft works(all versions), Microsoft Word(version 6.0 or later for MS DOS, Windows, and Windows NT(workstation)Wordperfect for MS DOS(4.0-5.1) Wordperfect for windows(5.1 or later) productivity suites from Novell or Corel which contains these wordperfect versions

Product activation is required for continued use of Microsoft Word, and may be done by internet or telephone, Instructions andMicrosoft
privacy policy will be detailed to the user during launch of the product.

So be sure and check to see if you qualify for this product or you may have Word, only briefly!!Thank goodness I had Works.

I plan on putting some of the other software on my computer at a later date.

Hope this helps you.

5-0 out of 5 stars No complaints
This software package came on my new computer that I bought in April 2004.I'm still exploring the features, but I'm very happy with it so far.The computer also came with a free trial of Microsoft Word but, after checking out the Works package, I couldn't understand why I'd bother spending a month getting accustomed to Word when I knew I'd not purchase a renewal.Works works for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars What upgrade?
I can't understand where people are getting the idea that this is an upgrade. I searched Microsoft's site and there is no mention of an upgrade version.

You can use an installation of Microsoft Works to get Microsoft Office at upgrade prices, but there appears to be no qualification to use Works itself.

The only caveat is that certain sellers in the "used and new" section are selling OEM copies at very low prices. The OEM copies do not provide tech support unless you bought a computer from the company named on the CD or DVD case. However, you can (as I have done) installed an OEM copy and used all the software including Microsoft Word without any problems.

Again, given in my review I believe this to be one of the bargains of software, I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be on your computer. I am about to sell my computer and I am buying a new copy for my new computer. I'm sure the person who buys my old computer will think it a bargain that so much software is legally included. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Under-rated, over-criticized
I have used MS WORKS from about the time it was born, when it was quite primitive and sometimes unstable. But I have continued to use it, primarily for databases, because it has become progressively more stable and easy to use. These are not all small and simple databases--many include several thousand items, each with 20 to 30 fields of data.It is easy to "find" single items or to assemble groups of items ("filter"), and to print customized reports. So if you don't need (or want) the super sophistication of ACCESS, I have found WORKS to be a friendly and helpful--and inexpensive--alternative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I need for less than $50!
Microsoft Works sometimes gets a bad rap. If you never used it, you may not know that includes a database, spreadsheet, word processor, and more. What's even better, is that the spreadsheet and word processor are compatible with Microsoft Office. So you can save files so that they can be opened in Microsoft Office AND you can open files that someone else sent to you if they were created in MS Word or Excel. This is perfect for the work I do for the humane society that I volunteer for as well as planning my daughter's girl scout troops activities and camping trips.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, Very Cheap
I put MS Works on all systems that I make for other people. It has everything they need, and it dosen't break the bank. The only thing I don't like is that there is no Presentation software, or PowerPoint clone. Then again, if they included that, MS Office sales would go down A LOT!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars passable for general use but...
Originally I thought the idea of offering a set of the most popular applications at an affordable price was great. Recently, however, computer makers have started to offer MS Works as the standard suite on new machines.

Users who need more than very very basic features will need to buy more dependable softwares such as those contained inMS Office. The word processor in Works, for instance, doesn't have most of the special characters that one needs to transcribe foreign languages (French, etc.). So the low price of MS Works ends up being a way to save money to computer makers and to squeeze out extra money from buyers who will need to upgrade to better products anyway.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zero stars would be more like it.
This product isn't any better than version 3.0 for Windows 3.1.In fact, the only big differences between the two products are that this one is more bloated and more buggy. It's too expensive for what it is, and they should really be paying me for using this piece of garbage.

There's a title for Microsoft Works 7.0 users, and that title is "beta tester." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good software, well, the best for me.
It is amazing software, really smart and pleasure to use. There are some things to improve to my taste, but overall it is definitely worth the money. In two hours of the actual using it appears by far more convenient that notorious MS Office. Extremely rich applications fulfilled by right tools. It is not overwhelmed with unneeded garbage but with smart and well organized things.
As one reviewer has mentioned it isn't Word. it is better. You don't have a filling that some one staying and breathing into your neck.
BTW, MS Word brought wrong habits and misleading conceptions, but if you know how to work , this one is much more productive tool.
All pieces well coordinated and inter working.
Very recommend. The interface a bit different and a few things to learn, but since you started to use it there is no way to back to MS Office. MS Office has more features in the same way as track has more horsepower, but will you drive it on vacation rather than coupe ?
One more thing to say, there is no any issues with MS Office compatibility. I converted many different documents and had no difficulties at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not Word.
Let me make one thing clear: AppleWorks is not Microsoft Word. It is not Microsoft Office. And it is not a substitute for Word or Office, just as a Honda Civic isn't a substitute for a Hummer. It is, however, much easier to use, much less intrusive, and much less expensive. If you need Microsoft Office's features, by all means buy a copy. If you need to exchange files with Office users, it's probably a good idea to buy Office. But If you need to get work done quickly and easily, grab a copy of AppleWorks. All the modules (Word processor, graphics, spreadsheet, and presentation) are seamlessly integrated. Screen clutter is minimal (though the toolbars could be smaller.) Basic (and I stress basic) compatibility with Word and Excel files is included. But its strongest point is its ability to stay out of your way: it doesn't try to reformat your work to suit it's own ends, or make grammatical decisions for you, and the on-line help is helpful, not intrusive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use with many good features.
A great application. If you don't want to spend the extra money and get Office X then this is the application for you. It's very easy to use and has a lot of great features like templates and clip art plus, you can make your own templates and clip art.It has many features that Office X has except it doesn't have grammar check. That is the only draw back but half the time I never paid attention to it when using Office 2000 for windows so this isn't a big deal for me.I have converted many documents from Office 2000 to AppleWorks with no problems.I also use it for college and I have yet to feel the need to get Office X.Some other features it has are spell check, a word counter, and it can read back your documents to you!!Try it out.You won't be sorry!I use this application on an iBook running Mac OS X 10.2.4

5-0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from office mac
I am a computer programmer and have been using MS Office since office 97 was released.I bought an Ibook 2 weeks ago in order to get away from the Wintel platform (and Linux too). The appleworks program is great it lets me create documents that MS Office can read and will also open MS documents.AppleWorks (as far as I can tell) has all the power of MS Office and is way easier to use.I have only been using it for a couple of weeks and can already create better documents faster using appleworks.I have not used the presentation part of AppleWorks yet but I assume its as good as the rest but, for presentations I reccommend keynote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth your money!
...Appleworks Office does everything I want an office program to do and it's stable and reliable. (I'm running system 9.2 on a G4). Another reviewer claims it isn't compatable with other programs, but fails to give any useful specifics, such as what programs and how it isn't compatable with them. I ignored that review and bought this software, and I'm glad I did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars !!!
While surfing the web for software that might provide a small edge over the generic word processing programs, I stumbled across Winway Resume Deluxe. It took a total of 2.5 weeks for me to gain employment because of this wonderful product!
Producing a professional resume was definably not the only feature it has. It covers how to dress accordingly, speaking in a professional tone and manner, how to hold your body as well as how to properly maintain eye contact with out being overwhelming, It even points you in the proper direction when asking a potential employer questions.
I honestly believe if it was not for this software, I would not be where I am today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not at all effective and difficult to use
I have been using this software now for about 3 months and I have found it to be very difficult to use.It is set up such that you just push a button and out pops a resume.Well, that sounds good on the surface however when you what to edit you must go through a very convoluted procedure to do so.If you have used word for doing documents, this is not word.It dictates to you how your resume will look and getting everything lined up the way you want seems just to hard to do.Yes, it has all those bells lights and whistles and that is the problem. They have taken over too much control of the formatting, fonts, layout...I ended up using Microsoft Word® to write my resume. This is not a plug for Microsoft; I use them because they have a monopoly on much of the software in use.I wish you could try before you buy but they do not allow that. You would see very quickly how hard it is to use.Unfortunately, I cannot import my resume in .doc form Word to Winway. They do not allow that so I tried to fit my resume into their format. After about two hours of playing around, I stopped to write this review.I do not think I will be able to do it but I have not quite given up yet but I only have my heading in and that is after two hours of playing around with it.If you can get your hands on a copy, please try it first, and then if you disagree with me, buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Software!
WinWay Resume is simply outstanding. This program definitely does the trick. It's easy to use, extremely straightforward, and had a pre-made resume (I'm a cost accountant) that I was able to adapt to properly show my experience. And it has a Resume Auditor which is incredibly cool. It found all kinds of mistakes in my resume - and I'm sure glad it did. Notjust typos, but things like date gaps between jobs. The tutorials were really helpful, too. It teaches you how to negotiate a better salary and how to present yourself during an interview, which turned out to be a good thing for me since it's been 12 years since I had to interview. Anyways, I recommend it wholeheartedly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me get a Job
My company has been laying people off every month so I decided it was time to update my resume. I just got Winway Resume Deluxe 10.0 and I must say it really helped me put together a beautiful looking resume. It helped me to write my resume quickly and more professionally than I EVER could have done on my own. And the Resume Auditor feature worked like a charm! It's kind of like a spell checker for your resume and it found some big problems woth my resume that otherwise would have just gone unnoticed (by at least me but maybe not my prospective employer). When I read reviews here on Amazon, it seems like Winway is the only software with a resume checker. If your company is laying people off like mine, this is a great insurance policy. ... Read more
