Amazon.com Review

This top-of-the-line Cool Mist humidifier is a big step up from those old steam-spitting devices. It features a front LCD panel from which you can select the desired humidity. Simply adjust the setting to anywhere between 20 percent and 90 percent (50 percent is recommended for most situations) and set the fan to low, medium, or high. The unit is oval in shape, and because the controls are on one end, it can be operated easily even if placed in a narrow space. (It's 10 inches wide and about 17 inches deep.) The curvy, translucent gray rear tank lifts off easily for refilling, as does the front fan unit for changing or rinsing the drop-in filter. The water tank is dishwasher-safe. --Richard Farr ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Humidifier I've Ever Owned!!!
This is absolutely the best humidifier I've ever owned. It doesn't leave the floor and walls wet!I live in Alabama and in the winter, I usually have to refill it every to every day.In the summer it can be extremely humid here so it rarely runs.I read in one review where it was hard to refill the tank in the tub since you have to turn the tank upside down to refill it, but I've never had a problem refilling the tank.I love the fact that you can put the tank in the dishwasher. As far as the sound, I usually have mine set on the lowest speed which is quiet. On the highest speed, it's about as loud as having an osculating fan going in your room. Some people might like itbecause it drowns out all white noise. All I can say is....My skin isn't dry anymore..My sinuses are open and my lips are no longer chapped!!!!!!I would highly recommend the TrueAir Cool Mist Humidifier to anyone!!!!Did I mention this humidifier was suppose to be for my daughter but after using it in my bedroom, I decided I needed it more.I'm going to be purchasing another one for my daugther's room!

4-0 out of 5 stars A very nice unit at any price
This is an excellent humidifier, especially for the price. It's very quiet. A filter typically lasts almost an entire season here in dry Arizona (usually October til April or whenever we turn the swamp cooler back on). It keeps our 3 back bedrooms humidified nicely just as long as you don't open the windows of course. I only fill it up every other day at most during driest times (outside humidity = 9% today!)
The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is that the humidistat failed after 3 years of use. From my experience with these types of units 3 years is pretty good service and at this price it's really fantastic. I'm about to purchase another one...

5-0 out of 5 stars very good unit
I did a lot of research before deciding on this particular humidifier, and I am glad we got the one we did. It is very quiet, it seems to be made very well, and is relatively sturdy. When the weather gets dry, our entire house is way too dry. Skin, furniture, houseplants...I talked my husband into trying this humidifier, and have to recommend it highly. I'd buy another just like it if I had use for another one, but this pretty much does the whole house. Hamilton Beach is still a good name.

4-0 out of 5 stars Convenient and effective!
I bought two different humidifiers- a Slant/Fin warm mist and this True Air.Although we really like our Slant/Fin for the baby's room, this unit is much easier to clean. It is rather noisy when the water tray is filling (it makes a glugging sound that sounds like someone knocking on your window in the middle of the night- spooky!), but for ease of use and maintenance, it can't be beat. The noise factor is less when you put it in "quiet" mode and after a dy or so, you just get used to it.We have VERY hard water and the filters don't need to be changed as often as with most humidifiers which is a long-run cost savings.I recommend this item and have done the research- replacment filters are cheapest through Amazon (cheaper than at the manufacturers website).

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Great! Just what I wanted...
After reading all the mixed reviews on this product, I bought it anyway as it seemed the best deal for the amount of space I needed to humidify (1100- 1200 sf).I was pregnant and it was winter and I was getting pretty dehydrated from the drying heat in my apartment.Within days I was sleeping soundly waking refreshed and no longer having headaches.I would have given this 5 stars but it's the first I bought and I cannot make any comparisons.

I am not sure what the reviewers that reviewed this product badly expected, having to refill it often just means that it is putting a lot of moisture into the air, the noise is not overwhelming and is similar to any white noise often used to put and keep kids asleep, I had no problem refilling it, my 2 year-old even liked to help, finally if you turn the filters faithfully once a week 2-3 filters should last the season.

4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but very quiet and effective
Having used a Venta humidifier in Germany several years ago, I was delighted to see that they are selling in the U.S. now as well. I had a case of sticker shock though, as they are now much more expensive than their older models used to be, but since I used to be very happy with them, I decided to go ahead and buy one anyway.

All Venta humidifiers belong to the class of cool mist humidifiers, which in my opinion is the best principle, as you don't "over-humidify" the room. Normally a cool mist humidifier has a filter that sucks up water from the tank and a fan blows air through the filter. Thus the water evaporates into the air and increases its humidity.

The difference in the Venta humidifier is that it doesn't use filters, but two arrays of plastic disks that rotate through the water. A fan on top of the device sucks suckes air through those disk arrays and the water drops that were lifted up from the tank evaporate.

One of my major gripes with other cool mist humidifiers is that the fan is very noisy even on the lowest setting. The Venta fan is pleasantly quiet. I keep the device in my bedroom at night on the lowest fan speed and I don't notice the fan at all.

While it is true that you won't have to replace filters every few months, you WILL need to replace the water treatment additive at every cleaning cycle (usually 10-14 days), so there ARE some maintenance costs. The LW44 comes with two fillings of the additive, afterwards you have to spent about USD 16-18 for a bottle of the water treatment which will last for 12 cleaning cycles (4-6 months). Venta also sells a cleaning solution, but according to their manual you won't need it in most cases. In any case the cleaning solution costs about $10 and is only good for one cleaning, so using it frequently will really drive the maintenance costs up.

All in all this is indeed the best humidifier that I ever had. I'm not giving it five stars, because I still think the price is outrageously high.

4-0 out of 5 stars Effective,Intelligent & Expensive
I live in a desert~like New York City apartment and have owned my Venta Air Washer for almost exactly two years.During this time it has been operating on the "high" setting, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Air Washer lives up to all of the manufacturer's claims.

The Air Washer is a product of fanatical German engineering, over~design and bullet~proof construction, which accounts for it's rather grotesque price. However, I have owned products of inferior engineering and construction that have had to be replaced after one or two seasons. It is obvious I will own my Air Washer for many years to come.

The principles of operation could not be more simple (it's like a High School science project developed into a luxury product):

1) A fan blows room air straight down into a reservoir of water.

2) In this reservoir of water, a few dozen disks are slowly rotating to multiply the surface area that is wet.

3) Because you are blowing air onto a enlarged wet surface you are multiplying the rate of evaporation.

4) Humidified air is exhausted out of the Air Washer through vents in the side.

THIS WORKS.

On the "high" setting the water reservoir needs to be refilled daily in my apartment (this is highly dependent on your local weather or heating cycle).I end up carrying a couple gallons of water to the device or carrying the device to the bathtub and then back to its spot in my livingroom.

The design of the Air Washer is "neutral."It sits unobtrusive and un~noticed in a corner. It is nearly silent. It is built like a tank: It would be a challenge to damage this product on purpose.

Why not Five Stars?

The Venta Air Washer consumes expendables. You need a water treatment solution to prevent mineral deposits forming on the rotating disks mentioned above (weekly).AND you need a periodic cleaning solution to remove deposits that develop pn the bottoms and walls of the reservoir.I have tried operating the Air Washer without these things. They are required for optimal performance.

Like the device itself, the Venta treatment and cleaning solutions work perfectly and simply. But, THE EXPENDIBLES ARE EXPENSIVE!Assume youy will spend US$50.00 per year.

Also, you would think that for a company selling a FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR humidifier, the Venta aroma therapy scents would smell a bit less like a Central American bordello (not that I've ever seen one of those).Skip these even if they're free samples.

If you want the very best at any price, buy this product.

I am not affiliated with either the manufacturer or Amazon. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Quiet, effective, and relatively unobtrusive, this Holmes HEPA air purifier improves the atmosphere of the home by removing 99.97 percent of all airborne particles in the air it filters. It uses four heavy-duty true HEPA filters to do this, drastically reducing pollen, dust, allergens, and irritants in the air. The unit is designed for a 20-by-23-foot room (or up to 460 square feet), and it fits flush against the wall without obstructing operation. With its lighted control panel and well-marked buttons, the purifier is easy to operate. It includes four fan speeds powered by a GE motor and can be shut off without unplugging. For added convenience, the purifier comes with a remote control that operates all functions. Holmes' HEPA filters need replacing approximately twice yearly with typical use, and the procedure is straightforward. All the filters include Microban treatment to guard against the growth of microbial bacteria. Measuring 9-3/4 by 24-1/2 by 19 inches, the unit can be oriented vertically or horizontally. It carries a full five-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is My Product
I ordered this back in the winter of 2004, and kept getting message from Amazon indicating that there is a delay in shipping the product. After 2 delays, I just canceled the order. That is the first time I had a bad experience with Amazon, and I planned to cancel my Amazon-branded Visa card as a protest.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't expect to recieve this item
Who ever is selling this can't even seem to come up with the product. I suggest finding someplace else to purchase it. I ordered this in Feburary now its April and they still can't seem to find one to ship. They claim ships in one to two weeks, yeh right. Allergies and other nastys in the air don't wait for these shmos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent air cleaning unit
After researching HEPA filters for several weeks, I decided to purchase this one and am very happy I did.In most homes, when youlook across the room when sunlight is spanning across it, you can see various little specks of things floating through the air -- specks that enter your eyes and you breathe. After getting this unit, I no longer have the "dirty air" problem.

The unit itself is VERY quiet on the lowest 2 settings (easy to sleep to), the 3rd setting sounds like a fan is blowing high speed -- able to sleep to if you don't mind some white noise. The highest setting is a bit loud, but there is really no reason to have it on that setting, unless you quickly want to purify a room.

If you're debating whether to buy a HEPA purifier -- after you replace your first set of filters and see the filters liberally coated in grime that you would otherwise breathe in, you'll thank yourself. If you're debating whether to buy THIS HEPA purifier -- I have had this one since May 2004 and have just recently replaced the filters. The unit itself still looks and sounds new.I've bought products from Holmes before...and all of their products are still fully functional after several years.

Definately recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Smell the difference
I read about this purifier in Consumer Reports (it was one of the top 3 most highly rated) and have not been disappointed with it. The air in my apartment is noticeably more clear, and the added amount of circulation is really nice. Heat from the heating registers is now more quickly dispersed because of this unit. The remote control, although a nice touch, has to have line-of-sight with the device which is sometimes quite inconvenient. This unit has little lights on the front that tell you the filter status as well. Nice touch. On the highest (of four) settings, it's about as loud as an in-window air conditioner, on the lowest, it's almost inaudible. As for room size ratings, you can get one rated lower/smaller but it will just take a lot longer to filter. They don't stick you on the filters either; they last about 6 months (give or take) and cost about [$$$] total to replace. One of the best purchases I've made this year. ... Read more

Product Description

This efficient air humidification technology of the Air-O-Swiss 7133 humidifier uses high-frequency vibration to generate a micro-fine mist. A fan blows the mist into the room where it immediately evaporates. When operated with the pre-heating function, the water is heated to 180°F before it enters the nebulizer chamber. The mist exits the appliance at a comfortable temperature of 100°F. This has the advantage that the room temperature will not fall, and additionally the water can be kept cleaner. 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth It
I had been pricing and comparing the substantial number of humidifiers on the market and I am glad I settled on the Air-O-Swiss. Despite its higher price, I am quite satisfied with its functions, control, design and specifically, its quiet operation. I was looking to pay between $70-150 for a quiet, low-maintenance model to add humidity to my [very dry] 10x12' bedroom. I purchased it at a local store for the same price as listed on Amazon; I am glad I was able to see [and hear] this model in operation.

There is NO sound, even at the highest setting. I'm a light sleeper and cannot fathom a bedroom appliance that even approaches a dull hum.

The visible mist generated by this model is pleasant for me and my pets.

I have been refilling each morning, as I have had the device on a high setting and running nonstop. The compartment becomes about half-empty after a full day at this setting. Refilling is a snap.

The ability to have cool and warm settings is a big plus, since the jury is still out regarding the negatives and rewards of either mode.

The system has been running clean and I am certain this will continue to be the case with a modicum of effort. The cost of the filter and the silver stick is not intimidating and the recommended three-week maintenance check is reasonable.

The design is quite fetching. Minimalist and fetching.

I have it sitting on the floor and there is no dampness on the carpet as mentioned by owners of other brands. This tells me that this model is doing a good job of propelling the mist into the air.

My roommate recently paid $29 for a smaller Holmes humidifier. The Holmes is downright deafening and I am sure she would have paid the difference for an Air-O-Swiss. Silent operation is really important.

The only possible shortcoming is the hygrometer. It is not entirely intuitive: the machine is to shut off after the desired humidity percentage is met, yet I have yet to see the model shut itself off. Turning it off manually is not a big deal.

I took a big step purchasing an air purifier, but this purchase has made a significant difference in my bedtime and bedroom comfort. I've had some winter nights with seriously labored [allergy, smoke and pet-related] breathing but I find this device has given me a little peace of mind and tangible change.

4-0 out of 5 stars High cost, but has its benefits
This humidifier is about $100 more than comparable warm mist humidifiers. It's also important to note that you'll have a minimum of $40 in annual operating cost you don't have with a warm mist humidifier from replacing the antibacterial stick ($25, annually) and the water filters ($15, needed every 2-3 months to prevent the humidifer from spewing white dust, which was a common problem with earlier ultrasonic humidifiers).Still, I think it's worth it for these advantages:
1.Very quiet operation, no "boiling" sound (though still has occasional burble from water dropping down)
2.High output.
3.Looks good.
4.MOST IMPORTANT: relatively easy cleanup. You can clean this thing every two weeks, and it's just a matter of rinsing it out & brushing the ultrasonic membrane. No weekly descaling & disinfecting with bleach that's proscribed for the warm mist humidifiers. I'll pay the $40 a year to save hassle & time cleaning.

Do agree it should have a digital hygrometer for the price. Also it doesn't seem to be any more accurate than other cheaper humidifiers I've owned (measuring with a separate hygrometer) but nor does it seem to be less.

Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humidifier Bling
I am very happy with this purchase. I can't imagine another unit outperforming this one.
Pros:
1)High design; the prettiest, sleekest humidifier you'll find. Everyone who sees it compliments me on it and it's become a very popular acquisition.
2)High output: produces a thick, steady stream of humidity. When on highest setting, outpaces volume of other cheaper units.
3)Great customer service: I had a hairline fracture in the water tank and the Air-O-Swiss folks replaced it within days; it was very fast service and completely hassle free.
Cons:
1)After 2 weeks, I discovered a fracture in the water tank causing water to leak out onto the table.
2)No hygrometer/hygrostat display so there's no way to know for sure what degree of dryness you need to compensate for.
3)Water tank is a little on the small side and needs to be refilled often - Very often if highest volume setting is used.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool Technology, but would love a digital display
I don't know about you? When I pay this much I'd love to see a digital display of room humidity and be able to delay start of shutdown.Otherwise, nice system. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does the job
I've had mine for 3 months.Works fine and does a good job.On low speed it's quiet enough, although I have it in the hallway to humidify a 3 bedroom area.Love the fact that I don't have to replace the wicks ($$$ saver). That's what made me buy this in spite of the other noise complaints I'd seen.

Very easy to fill the tank and the tank is sturdy and easy to carry. No problems with water leakage.Sometimes the gurgling sound as water is being drained is a little annoying, but not overly so.

Overall, I'm satisfied.

Update (1/12/05) Cleaned it last spring easily with vinegar/water as instructed in the manual and packed it away.Got it back out and started using it in December (12/04).Once in awhile it vibrates a little more than I recall last season, but it's still bearable. It's a bummer others have reported problems with this model.I'm satisfied.

2-0 out of 5 stars 'tis a piece of..... junk
Mine lasted about 6 months. Put out about 5 gallons/day in winter. Loud, loud, loud, but beared it since I had already paid for it. I had to snap together the water pump assembly (a fan blade in a housing that pushed the water though a tube) on many occasions. Could not truly fix it since it is made completely of cheap plastic. In the end, the motor burned up and left the house smelling like burnt varnish for 2 days.

1-0 out of 5 stars piece of junk
I bought two humidifiers, the 3 gallon, and the 2.5 gallon, and within a month, both of them quit, the motors burned up. Upon notifying Hunter, I was sent two replacements immediately. One of them is already making a loud noise, and I expect the other to quit anytime. I would spend a little more money and buy a better humidifier because each time you send it back, you have to pay shipping which isn't cheap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Noise was too much!
I just returned mine. After a week it rattled like a bugger! Kept me up at night, it was terrible.

1-0 out of 5 stars TOO LOUD!
I agree with the previous review, that this humidifier was fine at first but grew louder by the second week of use.The fan rattles like a garbage disposal.I tried running it only in the daytime but that defeated the purpose since I need it while sleeping.

Went and purchased the Hamilton Beach 05519 from J&R Music World and it is quieter but still also loud. But I'll take a loud HUM over a loud RATTLE any day!

I'm mad that I have to change filters now, but supposedly only every 2 mos. with the Hamilton Beach.I will stay away from all Hunter products in the future because now I've done some research on the Web and it seems that quite a few people are having the same noise problem. There is a defect. Not only that, one model of Hunter's was recalled due to a fire hazard! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the last humidifer I bought.
I use this to humidify an enclosed, closet sized, habitat for my Giant Green Iguana.I keep humidity in the upper part of the habitat at 60-70%.This thing operates continuously (cycling on and off) for months a time, probably over a year at this point.I do have to soak the water tray and element in vinegar once a week or even more often to keep the scale down, but I've also let it go for a month w/out de-scaling and it works fine also.

The only problem I've had with this unit is the lower, outer tray cracked or seperated somehow and I got water from condensation leaking out.Since my habitat is waterproof this isn't an issue, and despite the unit being under warranty I just used RTV sealant to fix the leak. The environment I'm using this in is sort of extreme duty so I wouldn't hold this against the unit (much).

I prefer this unit to others that have LCD displays. The display s go bad on me sometimes due to humidity, as do the push buttons. The rotary switches on this unit are reliable, and after some fiddling you can get whatever level of humidity you want.

If the one I have dies and the warranty expired I would probably buy another.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked well while it worked
The good
- Very quiet, at first (more on that later)

The bad
- Steam comes out at a low rate, even at the high setting
- Needs frequent cleaning due to scale, especially on difficult to clean heating element

The very ugly
- After 3 months of use has become very noisy, to the point that we are rarely using it.Quality control is not what it needs to be.

4-0 out of 5 stars does the job
This humidifier is great.I've had it about 6 months-I do have hard water, which makes it a pain to clean, but I don't do it very often and it works fine. The only thing is you can't clean the main part b/c it's hooked up to the electrical, and for me that has the most buildup. But it still works wonderfully and for the price I think it's a good buy.I use it almost every night, and on low fill it every 2 nights.

1-0 out of 5 stars lots of scale buildup
I live in the country and have mildly hard water, so I bought this humidifier under the assumption that it would work fine with regular cleanup. WRONG! If I want to use it, I have to do extensive cleanup every 12 hours. I even tried using a lime and scale deterrent additive, which didn't help at all. The humidifier may work okay if you don't have hard water, but I can't use it anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Garbage
I'll make this short and sweet. I'd give this zero if I could. I bought two of these based on good reviews and Honeywell's good name. They both worked for less than a week before dying on me. Spend your money elsewere. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Effective, but hardly "Care-Free"
I am finally very happy with this humidifier, now that I have at last figured out how to best clean it (despite the unfortunately inaccurate owner's manual). This unit does require an hour or so of maintenance per week. Vinegar does not effectively clean the evaporation grid, as the manual states. You have to soak the grid in a very mild bleach solution every week or so, or slime starts building up. The other parts of the unit (that get wet) also need extra cleaning every few weeks.
On the upside, this humidifier does an excellent job putting water into the air, and that is the bottom line for a humidifier! The fan is noisy on high speed though. The best feature of this unit is that it costs almost nothing to operate. I do recommend buying an additional evaporation grid from Hunter, the price is very reasonable and well worth it. The base and grid frame are dishwasher safe, a nice feature.
If you're willing to spend the time doing routine cleaning, there's a lot to like about this humidifier. Have owned mine for 2.5 years now and was happy (and bored) enough to write this!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very loud and leaks!
I thought this was going to be great! From the start it was loud....but many are. As time went on it got louder and as another reviewer said it sounds like the fans are hitting something. If its not completely level it leaks ... we had stains on the ceiling underneath this unit. If you are going to spend the money buy the Slant Fin UV humidifier and get your money's worth!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice concept humidifier...
I have owned this humidifier for over a year. It does a lot of things really well and have only a few complaints about this humidifier. First of all, let's talk about speeds. There is a low and high speed on this humidifier. The low is fairly low and you can hear the water trickling down the metal filters. Its a somewhat pleasant noise in fact. High is very high and powerful and makes a fair amount of noise. The noise is not disturbing to me and in fact, helped to drown out a lot of background noise so I can sleep peacefully. I could hear dogs barking, kids screaming through the neighborhood, but this humidifier is loud enough so I could barely hear the annoyances and sleep. If you live in a quiet area, you may then find it disturbing if you aren't used to it.

Next, the maintenance. This is where we run into some problems. The metal non disposable filters recommend you soak them in vinegar to remove mineral deposits that form. There is an antimicrobial coating on these filters to help inhibit growth of harmful bacteria and suggest that running these through the dishwasher will ruin the antimicrobial protection. Well, I've owned this for over a year, and there was so much hard water deposits on these filters that they were ineffective. I had to run it through the dishwasher to clean them up. The vinegar did nothing to help remove these things. It is also nice that the base is dishwasher safe, but after extended use, it is clear that brown algae like material was forming all over the inside of the unit as well, by the motor. This can't be healthy to breathe in, but you can't run that portion through the dishwasher. Also, the venting that brings in the are was getting filthy and some deposits were forming there as well. I've had to take the unit apart as much as possible, and put the plastic pieces I've unscrewed into the dishwasher as well to get the unit somewhat clean again. The areas around the motor are very difficult to clean and I end up using a thin brillo pad to try to wipe off the brown slimy scum that forms. I even take off the outgoing vent cover so I can wipe the fan blades. This unit is not easy to clean at all, but it works better then most other humidifiers I've bought before.

An improvement in design would be to perhaps blow air into the unit with the fan, rather then sucking moist air out with the fan. When you are sucking the moist air out of the system, more moving parts seem to get wet and slimy. I'm looking into the Venta Airwasher system which does this, but its very expensive.

The humidistat works well, but the refill light is on too often now. Some water has somehow gotten into the float that triggers the light. I'm not sure how to get the water out of the float.

This unit IS effective, but you have to keep it clean.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked fine for a while, but then went crazy.
I originally purchased the Hunter humidifier based upon internet reviews. It certainly worked in the beginning to humidify the room quickly. The problem is that the unit is pretty noisy when new, and became awful as time progressed. It's worth noting that I can sleep through almost anything, living in noisy New York City as I do.As such, I returned the unit and got a Hamilton Beach instead.I think that it is the better, and quieter, humidifier.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great product -Poor Design
We purchased this humidifier and within 7 days, it was returned. The fans blades kept hitting on something inside the fan housing and on closer inspection, they have placed part of the electrical connection inside the housing and secured it with a plastic tighener - bad idea. The clicking sound drove me nuts.It sounded like the cards you would place on the rear tire of your bike when you were a kid.I have contacted Hunter about this problem and hope that they rectify it.The product works great and except for the noise, performed very well. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Honeywell is bad news.
I purchased the Honeywell warm-mist humidifier in December 2004.The machine died after 20 days.We only ran it at night and it worked fine until it died. The warranty is for five years. However, it costs $10 for a repair service fee in addition to the cost of shipping it to Massachussetts. After all that I may as well buy another humidifier. This time another brand.

3-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
Pros -
Quiet.I have it right next to my bed.Other than the occasional blurb (water bubble), it's very quiet.

Remote is useful. No need to get out of bed to turn it on.

No filter to buy.Easy to clean.

Room for Improvement -
The humidity meter is useless. It started at 20%, and kept it at 20%-25% after a whole night on high. The room is only 12 by 12, so it has to be wrong. This also means, my humidifyer will never turn itself off, because I set it to 60%.

I think the meter is measuring what's on the floor level.I have hard wood floor, maybe that's why?

The LCD display is impossible to read when humidifyer is placed on floor. You have to kneel down to read.

First few time, the vapor has a weird smell.

Cons -
It's not really 3 gallons. On high, it'll run for about 5-6 hours only.On low, it'll run for about 10 hours.

Not easy to change water. You have to pull the container out, then flip it over to fill it, and flip it back to put it in.Seniors may not have the strength to do it.

When water run out, it just blinks with the RESET icon.It doesn't shut itself off.And after a couple weeks, I cannot press the RESET button to reset it.I have to unplug / replug the power. It also started a burnt smell, which worries me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works for me
Have had this unit for almost 2 years.Love this unit and planning to buy another because I've moved into a bigger place. I've not had any problems with it whatsoever.

Features I like about this unit:
-- the tank lasts a good 7-8 hours at the high level so I turn it on before I go to sleep and don't have to wake up and refill in the middle of the night.
-- almost maintenance free.I only have to wash it once every year (after winter) before storing for the next winter.I've seen another review where more washings may be necessary (probably due to hard water).
-- no filters to use (cool mist humidifiers require this). This is probably a personal preference but I don't like the idea of spending $$ to buy filters.

What I don't like about the unit:
-- humidity gauge is useless/unreliable.At first I tried using the humidity gauge to control the unit's operation but soon I find it to be in accurate. What I do now is let it run till the tank runs out, or use the timer.
-- this unit is extremely quiet, except for the occasional gurgling when the water through the tank.

Both things I don't like about are really minor (to me) or I wouldnt' have kept it.But they are the same reasons I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke After a Week
I've had my humidifier for only a week and it is already broken. I ran it once a day or so until it was empty. Then one morning I checked on it to find that it was off. It just shut down on it's own and I can't get any power.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stop working after one winter
Worked for one winter. And this year after using it twice it stopped working. Right now it can't be turned on and once it's plugged in the digital display just blinks. Called www.kaz.com and I have to pay $30 to cover the cost for shipping to have it fixed.

By the way, my friend got the same unit a week after I got mine.
Her unit is acting the same way now....Does that mean they have really good 'Quality Control' ??

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a great product, despite Consumer Reports review
I agree with other reviewers about humidistat cycling on and off. I ended up not using the auto feature. Also, once the tank gets low, it starts to rattle a bit in the base and is no longer "whisper quiet." Finally, our house has old steam heat radiators and our room is 13x13 with 9 foot ceilings and the tank did not last the night during most of December and January when set to 40%. I did, however, find the replacement filters easily at Target. I would not recommend this humidifier.

1-0 out of 5 stars Noisy and Leaks
I read several reviews on this including consumer reports trying to find a unit with a timer. I found this unit to be noisy and water leaked from the base all over the table and floor the first time I used it - I returned the unit and would not recommend this unit to others.

2-0 out of 5 stars noise blower
I agree with one reviewer that the humidistat is regulated in a very tite range causing it to cycle on and off very frequently.I don't agree with the fan noise.I found it to be very noisy compaired to the two Bemis humisifiers I had for the past two years. I admit they don't have the air ionizer and other features but at least I can forget they are there.Oh and the wick is hard to find.

2-0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend this product.
I bought this humidifier on the recommendation of Consumer Reports. It's easy enough to clean and handles hard water well. However, it is as loud as a box fan and it leaves a puddle underneath itself. In addition, filters for this model are somewhat hard to find. Most noticeable among this model's drawbacks is that it constantly flips on and off when you put it into automatic mode ("Accu-Stat").My wife and I are going to return it and purchase a quieter, warm-mist humidifier with no filters to replace.

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult locating replacement filters
This humidifier is exceptional in that it also incorporates an air filter along with the wick -- a definite bonus in an arid household filled with dog dander.

Unfortunately, although I bought the unit at Menards (a regional big-box home improvement store)just before Christmas, Menards doesn't stock the replacement filters.I am thrashing around online searching for the replacement filters, still with no success.

The performance of the humidifier would rate a 4-5 stars (though I've noticed the same constant on-off issue when using the programming mode). The hassle factors drop the score down to a (very generous) 3.Before anyone considers purchasing this humidifier, I recommend ensuring they have a guaranteedsupply of replacement filters lined up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonder!
If you've ever been told to use a humidifier, you know how many there are to chose from!I have tried about 10 over the past 10 winters!Until this one, all were noisey, got musty or I was unable to replace the filter becasue it had been discontinued! This one is so quiet, stays fresh and works magic on my allergies! The best is that the filters are easy to get and just come in one size!No more trying to remember the model number or anything!
Just what the doctor ordered!

5-0 out of 5 stars Vornado Vortex Humidifier
I have owned many Vornado products in the past (and still have ALL of them). These folks make the very best air moving machines in the world.
The humidifier is silent and does several rooms with no problem. It is easy to fill and has not caused a great deal of white dust as my old humidifier did.
I am convinced that Vornado is a brand you can trust to deliver on any promises they make.
Very very satisfied with the product-and recommend it highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good in use humidifier, filter won't last long.
Okay, this humidifier is good as all previous reviewer said. But one thing is deceptive about this humidifier.Manufacture claim that filter will sustain its use during 60 to 90 days. How come?I had my filter for 15 days and it begin to smell a little.Of course, you can use some water treatment solutions with your water and I guess this will prolong life of your humidifier to say 25 days. But I wouldn't imagine it last for more than 30 days.Of course, everyone has different water in their home, but it seems to me Manufacture used totally distilled without any impurities or mineral content water, in order, to claim one filter to work for a such long time. One more thing, if your house have some smells, they will somewhat diminish, but your filter will be smelling funny faster than usual. So, I think, in one sense, this filter acts as a cleaner of your surrounding air as well.In any case, I bought two of them (humidifiers) some extra filters and I am happy with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not quiet
I bought two of these because the reviewers here gave it good marks and downplayed the noise it made. This product is easy to assemble and clean.Filling the water chamber is very easy compared to other humidifiers I have used.To me it is the best feature. My main gripe is with the noise it makes.First of all, the fan is not as quiet as I had hoped. There are three fan speeds, but the lowest speed is the only one that has an acceptable sound level at night. The higher two are only useful during the day when it can be drowned out by other household noises. To make matters worse, every 2 hours or so, this humidifier makes a series of loud GULPs as the water from the tank drains into the humidifier base.Based on the reviews I read here, I didn't think it would be a problem because I am a heavy sleeper, so I was suprised that the GULPing noise wakes me up at night.

This is a fine product for the daytime, but for nighttime/sleeptime, I wish I had purchased something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but noisy
I researched for a long time before I purchased a humidifier for our bedroom.I chose the Vornado for its good reviews and well-known name. While the Vornado is quiet while spewing out the cool mist, it makes an INCREDIBLY LOUD KNOCKING SOUND many times (at least 4) during the average 8-hour night while the water gulps down from the water chamber into the body of the humidifier.IF YOU ARE a deep sleeper, or not bothered by loud knocking sounds, then this is the perfect humidifier for you. However, if you are a light sleeper, like I am, keep searching or wear ear plugs.I am literally woken up in my sleep by the knocking/gulping sound; my husband, who is a very sound sleeper, was awaken one night by the sound, got out of bed, and went to the door half asleep thinking that one of our children were knocking on it.On a positive note, the water chamber is easy to fill and replace, as are the wicks. All parts are very easy to clean. And it does "humidify" the room quite nicely. It is just very loud and I would not buy another Vornado for that reason alone. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still going strong after six winters in northern Ohio
When we bought a five bedroom house in 1998, winter was fast approaching.I hate a house with low humidity. Petting the cat turns into animal torture, and walking across carpet and touching a metal doorknob always ends with a nasty surprise. Then there's the lousy feeling when you wake up with a plugged nose, crusty eyes and a sore throat from breathing dry air in a cold house.

We keep our Holmes 3500 on the ground floor in the entryway next to the living room where we have a wood burning stove.Rated to handle homes up to 1700 square feet, this model easily handles our 2400 sq feet. With three speed settings and large capacity twin tanks, the 3500 goes 24 hours between refills even with the woodstove running in the dead of winter.(The woodstove removes air from the home, which pulls dry outside air into the house.)

At the highest fan setting, the 3500 is a little noisy, but it pumps out the moisture. We typically run it on low or medium during the day, and then use high at night to saturate the air.

A small plastic humidistat was included with our unit, and we keep it at the other end of the house to be sure we're getting an accurate reading. For us, the comfort level is simple to determine. If the cat sparks when we pet him, we need more moisture. No question, using a quality unit like this results in fewer colds, better sleep and lower heating bills. Our thermostat stayed at 67 degrees all winter, and even lower at night, and we were comfortable.

What impresses me most is the durability of the unit, with one exception: the plastic handles on the tank of our unit were loose when we unpacked it, so we used superglue under both handles to bolster their adhesion to the tank.It might not have been necessary, but I didn't like the way the handles flexed when carrying a full load of water across a Pergo floor.

Our city water is on the hard side, so we usually replace the wicks every two weeks in peak season to maintain efficiency and comfort.BTW, Amazon has the best price I've ever found on wicks for this unit, so look no further.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Humidifier for the House -- But Costly Filter
This is real good one , except the fact that the filters needs to be replaced every 4 to 5 weeks , which is almost 12 dollars . I have used some humidifers in the past and all of them never needed have the filter changed for weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be an excellent product for an entire apartment!
I don't actually have this exact humidifier, but I have the previous generation console humidifier from the same manufacturer - model Holmes HM3640. If this one is anything like the previous generation, it will be a cinch to refill the two water tanks (especially if you cannot lift a single full-size one), and the controls will be intuitive and easy to operate. My current humidifier does a marvelleous job in keeping the air humid and comfortable either in a small or a very large room - even a small apartment. I have tried many other humidifiers, but they were too inefficient and/or too noisy at their medium and highest settings. If Holmes made very little or no changes to an already excellent product, buy one, it will be worth it! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Works well but brakes often
I have bought this humidifier ... twice. It works well, but with proper maintainence the electronic control panel broke. I sent it back to the company and got a brand new one in return. I used it in the same manner, and now the new one's control pannel is not working. I would suggest finding another humidifier.

5-0 out of 5 stars (OWNED 4 YEARS) Best Humidifier I've ever owned!!
We have been using this humidifier for over three(now 4) years.

I'll go through all others complaints.

1. Broken handle. All humidifiers are built a little flimsy; just be careful! Ours has never broken. When full don't be tough with the handles. This isn't a pickup truck people!!

2. Won't humidify room. This is not a whole house unit.We have used it regularly in bedrooms and small apartments and considering the size it works very well.If you have forced air do not leave the fan on continuoisly (although we do occasionally) and close the door to your bedroom. When the heat kicks in; ours turns on and recovers the humidity in the room easily.

3. Leaks. There is a built in resevoir area for leaking. Ours over three years has only done this a few times and never enough to actually leak on the floor or outside the machine.
If your unit leaks all the time use hot water.Cold water will expand on the machine as it heats a little; forcing extra water out.Hot water will cool and shrink as it sits on the machine.

4. Not accuate. You got me? Ours has been perfect.

5. Rotted seal. Duh! When done with the unit; store with cap off of the tank. This will avoid all humidity problems.

6. Hard to clean. All burner humidifiers are hard to clean.I clean ours about once a week.I wash out all the peices by hand and hot water to remove minerals. The burner area itself I usually use hot water and my fingers to loosen up the minerals. I don't think this is too bad.I leave some minerals on the burner itself to avoid damage but who cares?I've only used vinegar at the end of the seasons. We do however have soft water.

I hope this helps people. We've used ours every evening and night in Minnesota. We've never had any problems. It even heats up the room a little which the misses likes a great deal.

(...)

The seal below the burner started leaking into the machine.
This caused the machine to do some strange things.
So, I dried it out; and cleaned the inside of the machine.
It ends up that the single screw that holds the burner and seal down on machine came loose. This might explain all the problems with leaking and such others have had. Worked great since then.

Looks like we'll get another year out of it!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs improvement
This worked well for one season then leaked water everywhere. The water shorted out the controls - was lucky there wasn't a fire. It never worked the same again. I gave it two stars because when it did work, it kept the humidity at a comfortable level. If I buy a digital humidifier, I'd look for one with the controls anywhere but under the water supply.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great potential, but had many flaws
We are currently on our second of this same model and we have had numerous problems with them both. While this vaporizer did work well over a short period of time it does have a few serious problems. First it's difficult to clean and often get's neglected, the large carrying handle on the bottom of the tank breaks off every time after about a year of use, the digital controls start malfunctioning about the same time as the broken handle making the unit completely useless or leaves it doing strange things and displaying weird characters, they leak water into the controls causing it to short out with loud internal sparks. We love this unit if only it would keep working for more than a year!

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch out if you own this
This thing got burnt the other day.
Cooked!!I got lucky it just left the hole in my carpet, but it could burnt the whole house.By the way, it was working fine for last couple winters.I will never buy the warm mist humidifier again.... period!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best humidifier i have owned so far
I'm not sure why this humidifier got such a low rating. I just love mine. I do know that there was a recall on the 33250 model, which I don't believe is made anymore, but the one I have is 33222.

The way this humidifier works is a little bit different than conventional cool mist humidifiers though. It uses a pump to pump water over the permawick filter (which is made out of aluminum instead of the spongy material conventional ones use). The fan then causes air flow over the permawick which then evaporates the water to create humidity.

Pros:
-----
1) very quiet on its lowest setting (which empties a full tank in just over a day...the higher settings, about as loud as a desk fan, will do so much faster)
2) very maintenance free - All I typically do is fill the water tank.It will, however, require occasional rinsing, just as any humidifier will. (Not sure what went wrong with other ppls' versions of this model. Perhaps it is the water in my area?)
3) Curiously, the wick hardly ever gets mineral buildup like my old Honeywell (which had a conventional wick) did.
4) Evaporates more humidity than my cool mist honeywell did, but not as much as my ultrasonic or warm mist humidifiers (warm mist humidifiers are electricity hogs, however, and the white dust from ultrasonic humidifiers can damage your CD players or CD-rom drives, as i found out the hard way).
5) With my conventional cool mist humidifier, the amount of humidity it dispersed seemed to degrade as the wick got older (perhaps its ability to absorb water became weaker), and also it would degrade the longer the humidifier was run without resoaking the wick. Neither of these seem to be a problem for the Hunter humidifier.
6) No having to replace nasty, brown, crusty wicks :)...

-----
Cons:
-----
1) The housing is a bit of a tight fit over the evaporative parts (wick, base, etc.), which may pose a convenience issue when removing the housing for cleaning
2) Because it uses a pump to drip water over the top of the permawick, you have to make sure the humidifier does not run dry, otherwise the pump will burn out (i'm not sure if it has an auto-shut-off feature, but I have never let it get low enough to find out...)

1-0 out of 5 stars I get irritated every time I look at it
After about 1.5 months, it started leaking. Even though I filled it with filtered water, calcium deposits were all over the inside.I wiped out the inside with CLR (lime and calcium remover) and soaked the filters in CLR.Within 3 days, it was spitting out water again. And not just a little bit of water, either.I'd placed it on a huge beach towel that I'd folded up as many times as possible...maybe came to 3" of towel that it was placed on.The next morning, the towel was DRENCHED...I mean, I picked it up and water was dripping out of the towel.I phoned their "customer service" number listed in the manual about 3 times. I was on hold for so long each time, I gave up.Now it's just sitting in my living room and I'll probably throw it out. What a waste of $50.Oh, and when it WAS working, it was noisy. I had to turn my TV volume up to a level I hope did not disturb my neighbors (apartment living).

1-0 out of 5 stars junk
This is the worst product on the market.I have a much cheaper Holmes and it has lasted me three years so far. This is my sencond one in less than two years. The first one's motor gave out within a few months and was replaced by the company. The second one started leaking almost immediately and I found my sons wooden dresses destroyed one morning because all the water leaked out. Also it is so noisy, not a nice calm noise but an mechanical noise that let a blower sound good.I will never buy anything from them again and would rather just buy filters.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its great when its working properly
I'm on my 4th one for this humidifier (I have the one w/o the night light)

LIKES
1) no filter to replace
2) relatively easy cleaning (just soak in vinegar/water and brush)
3) quiet enough for me to sleep on LOW
4) large 2.5 container so dont need to refill frequently
5) it works! i sleep better, and my hygrometer proves it

DISLIKES
1) it breaks down and stops working or leaks, or gurgles after 1 or 2 months
2) gets to be noisy when on MED (specially on HIGH)

2-0 out of 5 stars Tempermental Humidifier
This humidifier looks great on paper...but in reality, it does a poor job.The first month it worked alright. It's just too loud.Even on the lowest setting sometimes it's unbearably loud and sometimes it's bearable.I never know how it's going to sound like until I turn it on.Not only is it loud sometimes, it doesn't do a very good job of rotating the water flow which leaves it stagnant and turns yellow.I have to clean it every week and not once a season as it claims.I've had it for two months now and it's leaking water and I can't figure out why...I'm going to send it back.Too bad this had to happen after the 30 days money back guarantee. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars It's all good but...
When I found this item from sharper image, I was very excited because of the size. It's very small and works very well. However, I can not stand the noise. You can never leave this humidifier on if you're a light sleeper, which I am. The noise is pretty loud.. So don't get it if you can't stand a constant buzzing noise.

5-0 out of 5 stars recommend it
This unit is compact yet powerful. Compared to the ones I've owned before this one is much better in terms of size, efficiency, and noise level. I travel a lot and it is easy to carry with me because of its very small size. It is easy to clean as well. I am completely satisfied with this item, and highly recommend to others.

4-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER!
The description lists that the discs are dishwasher-safe. I ASSURE YOU THEY ARE NOT! My discs look more like abstract art than function now. Until then I think this worked well, as the air and my nose and throat did not seem dry in the morning when I woke up. I think it's worth the money, just be careful with it. Be prepared to add water daily to it, however (which is possibly a good sign if your air is as dry as mine). The resevoir isn't very big. I haven't used any other similar machines, so I honestly don't know how it compares to others in water resevoir size. WIsh it was a little bigger though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works as promised, but not for bedroom use
It does a good job as a humidifier, and does pull large dust particles from the air (definitely not a hepa filter by any means).Easy to clean, which should be done often.Interesting and simple design, but the inverted water bottle is a bit awkward to fill and load. One major downside is that every few hours the water bottle refills the water dish.It is a loud bubbling sound like the water cooler at work.It wakes me up at least once every night. Also the continuous noise from the unit is not the soothing "white noise" of a traditional humidifier. It is more mechanical, especially when the water level gets low.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too noisy for a bedroom
I like the idea behind the venta humidifiers but I did not like their price.I bought two of these to use in my childrens room. They do a great job at humidifying but they have two drawbacks - they are too noisy to sleep with and they are VERY large.

I plan to order a venta to try and use these in larger rooms.

Very well designed and constructed - I expect these to last a very long time, ... Read more

This space-age-styled humidifier will quietly disperse cool moisture to a room, small home, or apartment of 1,700 square feet. Easy-to-fill water reservoirs on either side of the unit output about 10 gallons of water per day, enabling the humidifier to run up to 36 hours without requiring refilling. You can manually set the Galileo from the unit’s control panel, or program it to operate automatically. The Climate Center is unique in that it has a remote humidistat that is constantly communicating with the main unit to ensure that all areas of the room within a 30-foot radius maintain the desired moisture level. Other humidifiers tend to have built-in humidistats that only increase the moisture level directly around the unit. The remote control’s backlit digital display indicates both current, and desired room humidity--even when the humidifier is turned off. The remote control is angled for easy reading while resting on a tabletop, and also fits neatly into a storage spot on the humidifier. A child safety lock prevents little ones from operating the wireless climate center unsupervised, and an indicator light tells you when batteries are getting low. Dual air filters remove airborne particles from indoor spaces, while a filter monitor lets you know when the wick needs replacing. For healthier operation, a built-in Microban microbial product discourages the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew within the humidifier. Rolling casters glide the humidifier from room to room to supply direct humidity to a particular space. Measuring 14-1/4 inches long, 28-3/4 inches wide, and 21 inches high, this model is covered by Bionaire under a two-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY IT!!
It is SOOOO.... noisy!!I should have listened to the other reviews but I figured that Bionaire had fixed the problem by now.Not so.Its so noisy that it is unusable at any fan speed. It rattles and vibrates. Colossal waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bionaire Console did not perform as Promised
After seeing positive reviews of the remote humidistat feature on this unit, I was disappointed when mine failed to perform as promised. First, what should have been an easy assembly process was complicated by the fact that the filter screws were loose in side the unit and almost impossible to remove. I also found a tiny piece of plastic in the base of the unit which I later found came from the supports for one of the water reservoirs. It's not clear whether this is what affects the vibration of the unit but mine is very noisy. Most disappointing--the remote feature of my unit does not work properly and thus the unit continues to run (even after it reaches desired level of humidity) until turned off manually. The instruction booklet is not written in a very clear or helpful way, particularly for addressing this problem and, since I have not had a good experience with Bionaire customer service in the past, returning such a big unit for repair is likely to be cumbersome and unproductive.

3-0 out of 5 stars poor wick filter
I've found that I'm going through two filters a month because the tops of them dry out and reduce the effectiveness of the humidifier.I've resorted to using filtered water and even that doesn't help much. When the filters are working the humidifier works wonderfully but in the long run it's becoming a very expensive machine. If it wasn't for the wicks I would say it is an excellent machine but with this problem I can't recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly built for the price
This humidifier definitely worked well, but it's so poorly designed and built that the plastic panels rattle at any fan speed. I bought two of these and both had the exact same problems with rattling panels. Both were subsequently returned. Which is a shame, because when it doesn't rattle, it performs admirably. The tanks are easy to fill if you unscrew the caps (instead of using their weird twist-and-fill valves). The remote is a nice feature to help ensure your get desired humidity in an certain area (although by no means a necessity). But for the price, this thing is really a piece of junk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remote humidity sensor makes the difference
First of all, the complaints--there were only 3 thumbscrews, instead of 4, holding the filter unit to the bottom tank, and a screwcap on one of the tanks was backwards, and needed to be switched around. Also, the remote is supposed to work in the same room, but it didn't when it was placed on a bookcase.I moved it to another part of the room, and set it upright, and it has worked like a charm. The filter indicator is a bit flaky--sometimes it says the filter needs changing, and sometimes it doesn't.I haven't figured that one out yet, though I did buy extra humidifer wicks.

And the praise--once I figured out that the screwcap was backwards, and that the remote humidistat prefers to be upright (or not on a bookcase), it has worked like a charm! It will cycle on and off as needed. The high fan setting is a bit loud, but the medium and low are fine.It is set up in our living room, so the noise doesn't bother us while sleeping. It has enough output to pleasantly humidify our house (1300 sq. ft. main level). My dogs can now roll around on the carpet and not get shocked.I really like the feature of the intake air filters, so I don't have to run an air cleaner in addition to the humidifier. The unit has been running a month now, and I haven't had to change the filter.I do add an anti-microbial to the water tanks when I fill them up. ...
