Mom on busy street
I bought this humidifier for my 5 month old's room to help not only with adding moisture to our dry home, but to help drown out the noises of the busy street we live on as well as the sounds from within our house. It has made a world of difference! He has slept so well since I bought this.It works great.The high setting does have a louder hum, but I sleep in his room sometimes and have no problem getting to sleep. The only down side is having to buy filters.The cheapest I've found are $8.20 + shipping each and we need to probably buy a new one every 1-2 months.Great purchase otherwise!

Does the job, but quite loud.
I spent a lot of time in the store looking over humidifiers, and finally decided on the Holmes.I like the design and features.The good point is it works very well at humidifying a small room.The bad is that it is VERY noisy.There's no way you could have it on high - it sounds like a jet engine.On low it is still quite loud.I have it in my son's room, and the white noise actually helps him sleep, but I would never be able to have it in my own room.If the noise isn't an issue, then this is a great humidifier, but I believe most people would prefer a quieter unit.

Simply too loud.
I have had this unit for one week. I am returning it tomorrow because it is ridiculously loud. Forget sleeping--I can barely hear the TV over it! If noise is not an issue, then this item might still be a good deal for you. I paid $24.99, which I thought was a good price for it. The positives are that it holds 2.5 gallons, instead of the usual 2 gallons in this price range, and it has a built-in moniter to let you know when it's time to change the filter. It says it can run for 24 hours without having to refill the water. I did not test this aspect, as I only run it while I sleep (or at least that's my goal). Another negative is that it has a sticker attached that says to call an 800 number before using. Thinking it might be a safety issue, I called. It automatically records the number--with registered name--and address you call from and gives you a voice response sales pitch. That ticked me off. I just bought a Honeywell warm mist unit today. Junk- Will not last very long
The transducer used in this thing is garbage.I have gone through two of these in less than 3 months.Same failure each time.The mist will stop completely.The mist was poor to start with, it would leave a puddle next to it in the morning.Buy a Sunbeam instead.

Yep, a piece of junk that wets the floor
Zero is my actual rate for this nice-looking piece of crap. Our unit stopped providing mist the other day after two months of use. After many attempts to figure out why, we gave up, thinking that we must have done something to cause its demise. After reading the reviews, I see that we are NOT the only people to have it stop misting and to have had it wet the floor more than the room when it worked. $50 lost at no fault of our own. I considered contacting the manufacturer, but see that it's not worth it. I'll just have to buy a new unit. DO NOT BUY THIS THING!!!

Great when it was working
My unit worked great for 30 days running from about 6:30 am til 10:00 pm every day.Then it quit. It's clean and the blower is working but no mist. I guess it really is junk as suggested by others.

This should be a carpet steamer.
This item is one of the worst I have purchased in years.The only think that this item humidifies is the floor.I got this because my room is dry and it the unit is very quiet.This item produces a mist that just drops to the floor.It does nothing for the moisture content of the room.

Creates puddle of water or wet carpet
Major problem with this unit is the mist it creates falls to the floor and wets carpet or creates a puddle on hard floors.The only way I found to avoid this is to place the unit a few feet above the floor.

On the good side, the filter is cheap, around $5.00.It is fairly quiet.It probably doesn't take a lot of power to run.

NOT 4 Gallons in the Tank
The vaporizer holds 1.7 Gallons,generously counting tank+base.In practice,because I don't fill the base,a bit more than a gallon.

The vaporizer has a daily rate of 4 gallons (Thus the name). To keep it going for a full day,you have to fill it up 3 times.Effectively,it doesn't run for a full night because the tank isn't big enough.

4 Gallons is a Misleading description because many would assume it refers to the tank.

It does otherwise match the picture and description,and is a quite nice vaporizer.

Leak, my floor got flooded
I brought this unit and the first time I fill it with water and started it, noticing the water just keep going at a faster than expect speed... and my floor was wet... I thought I did not do it right and went to read more on the instruction... I tried it again.fill with water, and just leave the unit off.30 mins later, my floor was flooded... half of the water gone... I am going to return it!

Effective But Noisy
I wanted a unit with a humistat and large tank, and this seemed to fit the bill.I returned it three days later.

The unit has much going for it.It is attractive enough, and has a four gallon capacity instead of the usual three.The humistat works well, and should be a required feature on all humidifiers.You set the humidity level in the optimal zone for personal comfort, while eliminating the condensation and mold potential from a setting that is too high.The tank is easy to fill, and even has a handle on the side, which is helpful when you are flipping over and carrying a full tank.The base and heating element come apart for cleaning. The base is dishwasher safe, and the heating element is coated for easier cleaning.The controls are easy to see and use.

The unit is extremely effective, which is the cause of its deficiencies.On high, it heated up amazingly fast and the output was strong.So strong that the tank ran dry in a matter of 3-4 hours on first use.So strong I felt I had to move it away from the wall to avoid dampness.So strong that I could see the water boiling in the tank itself; which also resulted in a noise level that was distracting.I could hear the boiling water clear across the room!The problem was not much better on low.Since I also own a Honeywell that is virtually silent, I know this is not necessary.

The display is lighted, which makes it easy to see.However, it also adds one more digital light to a dark room.And the output vent is fixed to point strait up, whereas you might prefer to direct the steam away from the wall or a particular piece of furniture.

Great for big rooms
We've had this humidifier since the middle of November. It is now the middle of April. We bought it after my daughter was born and had to spend 10 days in the special care nusery. Part of the time she spent in there was because of her tiny nasal passages. What helped get her though was the doctor putting her on a cool mist humidifier dome. The doctor said if we didn't already have one, to ge a COOL MIST humidifer. Cool mist will help open up the nasal passage where as the warm mist will generally help initially feel better, in the long run will close the nasal passages.

We have a very large room and needed a humidifier that would cover our area (the baby is in our room). This humidifer certainly fits that bill.

As for the loud noise it produces. We like having that noise. It is a steady sound at the same level. In fact the other night I had the humidifier turned off and woke up 4 or 5 times during the night because I was able to hear every little tiny sound that would normally have been drowned out by the humidifier.

As for filling it. You can do it in the sink or in the tub. The top for each tank has an attachment for it that screws into it so that you can lay the tank sideways in the sink. Our sink is deep enought that I was able to take the attachment off and fill it normally.

Having the humidifier room gage is great. Typically you want your humity level in a room to be between 40 and 60. During the night I run the humidifier on level 1 and it keeps the humity level around 50-55. During the day I change the setting to keep the humidity level no lower than 40. Every time the level goes below 40, the fan automatically turns on to keep up the humitity level.

The only real complaint I have with this unit is that it goes through filters quickly and they are on the expensive side. I have to change the filters once a month (there are 6 of them), but it has made a huge difference in the baby's breathing at night during the winter months. I have also noticed that I no longer wake up with a dry yukky mouth and my lips do not get dryed out and chapped at all.

Loud and inconvenient
I bought this humidifier about week ago and will be taking it back asap.There are two different modes:a high/medium/low and an automatic on/off depending on the room's humidity level (it sounds like a really good idea, right...).The first, always-on type setting is very loud.The other, automatic setting is intolerable.If you do purchase this, make sure you have a spot planned for it where it will not be near bedrooms since you can hear it through closed doors and walls.The one star that this equipment gets is for the fact that it can pump a lot of water out really quickly.Other negatives are that it's really hard to fill without using the bathtub and that you can't rest the water tanks on its top when you're filling it (they're inconveniently curved, so you have to hold up most of the weight of the water tank while trying to finagle it in the bathtub).

Very lound
I just got it in time for Christmas and had it on for 30 mins.I couldn't stand the noise any more. When I just turned it on at the high setting it sounded like my expensive dryer.So I turned to the low setting but still lound enough to interfere the conversation.I will return it and get 2 or 3 warm mist humidifiers instead.The warm mist type is much quieter.

Decent bedroom air cleaner
Pros - Quiet at lowest setting, very effective room air movement, 4 fan speeds.

Cons - Loud at higher settings, needs 2 replacement pre & main fiters (expensive), big & intrusive, no auto-shutoff like my Hunter Hepatech 375.

I use this for my infant's bedroom and it is very effective at moving the air as you can certainly feel the draft from the other side of the room even at the lowest setting.I also noticed that my son breathes easier when sleeping (less coughing fits) so I guess it works though I have not had it long enough to see the filter get dirty yet.The motor at anything but the lowest setting is loud & VERY loud at the highest setting.On the other hand, the louder settings allow us to use the cleaner also as a very effective "white noise" maker.Overall, it does the job well but I am dreading the cost of having to replace 4 filters (2 pre & 2 main) each time.

Harmony Air Purifier
I bought one of these units for my daughters allergies and asthma and because we had a spot of mold in our home that was cleaned and removed and I must say this thing worked great! We have a relatively small first floor where my daughter sleeps and I must say that she slept the entire night without waking up and coughing for the first time in a year! I would definitely reccomend this unit to others and I am thinking of purchasing a second one for my basement.

works good
I have only had for a few days so I can only rate a 4. So far so good. I wanted for an area used by a smoker. I can be on one end of the room and cant smell as long as the smoker turns the unit on high before they start smoking. I probably could have went with the higher unit for the size of the area to get more air changes for the size of the area, though. The filters look to be very easy to change. Not very loud either. I cant hear when the t.v. is on.

holmes hap625 air purifier really works
I bought the Holmes HAP625 a month ago from Amazon and love it. It's easy to move around from room to room.At night I left it on "low" between 2 bedrooms.In the morning, my severe allergies -stuffed nose and itchy eyes disappeared.The air flows upward, so it doesn't hit your face if you are sleeping.It fits nicely with my house decor. Economical and efficient
The Harmony Air Purifier has turned out to be a great little workhorse of a machine!I have dogs and this machine does a great job of removing their dust, hair and dander from the air.The only problem I have is the noise.The Harmony is not loud, but it is noticeable.Filter replacement is easy.Filter costs can add up.The recommended replacement on the Hepa filter was 12-18mos, but I needed to replace after 8 months of hard use.Overall I reccomend it.Good Quality, Great Price. ... Love the remote hygrometer
I've had other humidifiers, but this is my favorite.The digital hygrometer prevents over-humidifying (I've ruined the paint on my bedroom wall several times when other humidifiers over-humidified the room overnight).Also like the easy to clean heating element.Finally, I had the reset problem that other reviewers discussed, but when I read the owner's manual more closely, I realized that the reason for my problem was that I was not waiting for the water to filter through the system before starting it (the owner's manual recommends waiting 5 minutes between filling and running the machine).Don't know if the problem other reviewers had was different than this; if so I haven't had the problem they've had.I love that I can leave this humidifier running "unattended" and not worry that I'm going to have to get out the paint rollers again!

Found a possible workaround for the constant resetting
We live in a very dry climate (Calgary, Alberta) and we have purchased many different warm mist humidifiers. It's always the same problem (the mineral build up on the heating element is hard to clean no matter what you do!). However, with this one, the heating element just wipes off and I only have to soak it in some vinegar once a week for a few minutes to remove a bit of build up that sticks to the element. I *do* like this heating element since it's extremely easy to clean.

We had the same "reset" problem as described above by other customers, and what we found is that when you plug it in (with a full tank of water), just start it on the LOW setting first, until the steam starts to come out, then you can put it on the HIGH setting (or leave it on LOW if you wish).

We figured out that if you go straight to HIGH to get it started, the machine shuts off (reset light comes on). It seems to get too hot too fast or something is too sensitive inside the machine. If you start on LOW, let it start steaming, then increase it to HIGH, we don't seem to have the reset problem.

We've only had the unit for a week... Let's hope it will hold up ok!

Defective Product
I had just purchased the humidifier and followed all instructions to set up the system.After running for 15 seconds, the machine's reset button started to blink, which by the way should only be blinking if it runs out of water.Staring dumfoundadly at a full water resevoir, I followed their reset procedure only to have the same thing happen again...and again...and again. When I called customer service, they explained that the only time the reset light will come on is if there's no water left in the resevoir or if there is a mineral build up on the heating element.I explained that I had just bought the system less than an hour ago so there's no chance that there is a build up of any kind and that the tank is full.Their response was to return it and bring home another system and try that one.I am definately returning it, but will not be purchasing another bionaire system, or anything that has the bionaire name printed on it.

Stay Away
Otherwise trustworthy Bionaire has produced a defective model. I've been through two of them now, both with similar problems. They tend to shut off despite enough water being in the tank, and no other visible problem. First one never worked right, the second lasted for two months before it continually flashed the reset light. Customer service could offer no solutions. Stay away!

Nice Remote but Burping/Churping Noise
I've had this humidifier for about a week and use it at night in my bedroom. The remote is a very nice feature and will maintain the pre-set humidity level but there have been nights were it could not reach the setpoint and therefore stayed on all night. Humidifier actually works and requires no wick or filter!
It is great to finally find a humidifier that actually works and requires no wick or filter.

Operation is simple--plug it in, fill the tank and push a button to turn it on--and it's quiet, too. No sputtering or spitting droplets of water onto surrounding surfaces. No need for salt added to the water, as some heated vaporizers require (safer around kids and pets, since no heat is involved). The visible vapor output and pilot light show it's working. Adjustable amount of vapor output and direction of flow make it more adaptable to a number of different environments. Low-water alarm is loud enough to be heard from another room.

It is also the best looking humidifier that I have seen--with its clean, sleek lines and cool blue, see-through water tank.

The only suggestion I have for the manufacturer is that it would be more convenient to fill the tank from the top, instead of having to lift the tank and turn it over to fill it from the bottom.
