All that's missing is a goldfish
This is the kitschiest humidifier I've owned, replete with a phallic-shaped aquarium (at least you can turn off the blue light), but it's also pretty practical.Set-up time is nil, it's as easy to fill as a water glass, and it really kicks out the vapor for the better part of a night.It's not completely silent but quiet enough for me.The only thing not to like might be the power adapter--another one of those monstrous and heavy pieces of metal that will monopolize your wall outlets or power strip.Also, beware of variable prices.Medisana appears to get an extra twenty bucks for the item when it's marketed as an aromatherapy rather than a humidifying device.(Simply add a few drops of your favorite scent.) ... Very Noisy, poor output - avoid it!!
[...] I wanted one that had a UV filter. I have owned other warm mist humidifiers in the past and they all were acceptably quiet. However, the Slant Fin is very noisy - it gurgles almost constantly. My son is a heavy sleeper and it wakes him up at night. Also, the mist output is poor. For the level of humidity I need, maximum is barely sufficient and this is in a bedroom. The other humidifiers I've used in the past had much better output. I don't understand the good reviews from web sites. Bottom line: avoid it

Too much work!!!!!
I have to agree with several other reviewers on many points about both the good and bad of this unit. But the bad far outweigh the good! I bought it for my new infant, and purchased it before winter so that I had it on hand for his first illness. Luckily he didn't get sick for several months, but now that I have tried it (months past the time I can return it) I discover it is horrible, here are my big complaints:

The noise level is just loud enough when it gurgles to wake the baby from a light sleep.

But the worst is the maintenance. With a small infant I don't have time for a lot of extra cleaning and this requires a lot - and most of the manufacturers info available online doesn't tell you this. It says weekly cleaning, but I can tell you for a fact that if you let water sit in the unit unused for 24 hours you will have slimy water. So now you have to empty and dry the thing out daily. And God forbid you have hard water as we do. I can't wait a week to scrub the scale off the unit as it says in the instructions. If the unit is run every night I'd have to scrub the scale off every day or two.

I purchased it from a different store, but I did a lot of research online about what units are recommended. But I didn't look here to read consumer input. And I really wish I had. I hope that others reading this will run from this product! I also hope the store will take mine back.

puddle on the floor
I had high expectations for this unit because so many people said it was the best.After it ran for a few hours I saw a puddle of water under it and spreading out across the floor and soaking the carpet.I changed the water, reset the unit in a shallow tray and tried again.Within hours the puddle of water that came out overflowed the tray.I shipped it back the next day and will not take a chance on another one.

Decent but flawed

I never regret it
Despite the negative reviews, I went ahead and bought one. And I never regret it.

The first time I ran it overnight, with its humidistat set to maximum and humidifier set to HIGH. It worked flawlessly. But if you're not used to the humidifier's loud boiling noise, do not try this. I woke up with my hearing all weird. The LOW setting is actually better if you have sensitive ears, like I do. So it ran out of water the morning after, but the RESET light did not turn on. I thought I'd give it another try. I turned off the humidifier, cleaned it by following the procedure from the manual, and ran it again overnight. After 15 minutes I noticed that the water still didn't boil, so I started to worry. The solution, I found out by trial and error, is to set the humidistat to the highest position, and then set it to your desired setting 5 or so minutes after it boiled. When the humidifier is set to LOW, it can run for 24 hours non-stop. So after 24 hours, I got the reset light to turn on. After two weeks, I still have the appliance running with no problems whatsoever.

PROS:
-Easy to clean and refill with water
-Cheap and accessible filter replacement
-LOW setting also doubles as background noise
-Provides 3 year warranty

CONS:
-HIGH setting is too loud
-Humidistat setting is not digital

What a disappointment!
I made the error of ignoring some of the previous reviews that said this machine doesn't work.I had bought Holmes products before with a lot of luck, so I took my chances.The result?I got a piece of junk.It rarely ever works, and when it does, it generally stops well before the tank is even close to empty.We usually have to let it sit for hours to get it to work again.We finally decided to just return it.

It Does Seem To Actually Work
I purchased this model for twice the Amazon price after seeing it available in a local store and obviously, before seeing it listed on Amazon.I needed to get some kind of humdifier quickly this winter for my apartment and so far, after three days, this model actually does seems to be doing the job.

However, the instructions are extremely unclear (figured out much through trial and error), there is a setting (RESET) on the power knob with no explanation for its use nor of the differences between the LOW and HIGH settings.Finally, the humidity regulator (HUMIDSTAT) has no numerical indications on the dial to indicate "statistically" exactly what the setting is or should be as suggested by the instructions.

Everything else is as advertised:easy cleaning, quiet, water filtering, etc.

All and all, if you're willing to experiment a little with the settings and if this model has any life, it's worth the money.

Works well so far -- plan to buy more
I was leary about purchasing this model after reading the negative reviews...but decided it was worth a try for the price.I hadn't planned to buy a warm mist humidifier, but I was attracted to the idea of having warm vs. cold air given that we live in an older, drafty house in a cold climate.I purchased two for my kids' bedrooms about three weeks ago and so far they work great.For people concerned about the noise factor, the machine itself is very quiet -- no motor or fan.However, you can indeed hear the water "gurgling" away, especially at the high setting.This is less of an issue at the low setting, and not a problem for us -- we haven't found the noise to be disturbing.

A minor negative is the somewhat confusing instructions (I have yet to understand how the "reset" setting on the control knob should be used).But the machines seem to be working even with my bypassing that step!

Another minor irritant: although the unit is advertised as running up to 24 hours on one filling, we have found that water needs to be added after about 18 hours, even when running at the lower speed.This could, however, reflect our horribly dry air.Since we don't usually run the units all day long, it's not been a big problem.

The major plusses include ease of cleaning, relatively compact size, relatively quiet operation, the two speeds, and adjustable humidistat (I do wish, however, that the machine provided a numerical reading of the humidity level in the room, but you can't have everything, right?).

I plan to buy two more, including one for my office at work.

the worst humidifier ever!!!!!
The noise is unbearable!!! It's like having an airplane engine in your house... plus it doesn't really add enough humidity to the room and the water container is not properly designed. The filter does not work and the ionizing feature is a joke - -do not waste your money on this product!!!

Awful product!
The fan is exceedingly loud even on low. Forget about sleeping, or even holding a conversation. Not sure if the electronic humidistat is working, since it never reached 45% humidity even after two days of basically continuous use.

I was so disappointed by this humidifier that I felt compelled to write my first online review. I couldn't help but laugh when every other review had noted the same problems I had. The packaging touts some proprietary fan design that is supposed to make the unit relatively quite, it was not. After 24 hours my wife jokingly started to refer to it as "the monster that lives in our bedroom". There is both the deafening sound of turbulent wind coming out of the top and an annoying rattling coming from the fan. The "filter check gage" never seemed to move much and hovered around the position that is supposed to denote the machine is off. The ionization feature made no detectable change in the air, I believe all it actually did was turn the yellow "ionizer" LED on. Today when I picked it up to return it (after only 2 ½ days) I noticed the carpet underneath the unit was soaked. One terribly designed product! I returned it and got a cheaper humidifier from another manufacturer that is so quiet it is inaudible when on.

Buyer beware!!!
This has got to be THE LOUDEST humidifier in the world. It is almost unbearably noisy.The fan runs so hard that the ground around my unit actually vibrates!But it does its job I guess, and one could never claim that this humidifier isn't a hard worker. *smile*

Broken?!?!
Bought this last night. It must be doing something
If you have to replace the filter so often , can we ssume that is because the filter is dirty? Doesn't that mean it is removing some stuff from the air --which is what you want it to do???

Dream On If You Think THis Can Really Clean A Room
I bought this product for a fan sound when I sleep since I like that sound for sleeping. If you expect it to really clean anything, guess again. It is a small noise maker only and does not do what it is supposed to do, but in all fairness, virtually no aircleaners at any price really clean the air of dust, etc. I got in on an Amazon.com special about a year ago and since the price was so low, it has been an excellent investment for my purposes.

Glad it was on sale...
Bought this on clearance and it was only worth the clearance price, in my opinion. Within 2 months, I had spent more on filters than I had on the actual purifier. No, it didn't clean the air well and it was very loud. I stopped using it after 2 months because it wasn't worth all the trouble of finding and buying the filters anymore.

This machine is noisy and the filters? I can't find them anywhere! If I buy them online, they cost an arm and a leg! So, I've had this thing for about 2 years now, and since the filter only lasted for about a month, it's just been sitting there, collecting dust! So, I guess it's collecting dust in one aspect! Not Quiet
I had the same experience as others.It is too loud.Additionally, even on the lowest fan setting, it pushes out so much air that I had to put a doorstop in front of my bedroom door.It's too cold to use in the winter, which is typically when a person would use a humidifier.I'm taking it back to Target asap.

Too loud
We bought this because it said it was quiet and had an automatic thermostat.We put it in our bedroom since I have a lot of congestion due to pregnancy and we couldn't sleep because it was so loud.We returned it the next day.
