4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
Overall i enjoy this MP3 player. It looks good and is much cheaper then an Ipod. The pros
Great design
20 Gigs
Great display
decent battery
Cons
software: It is not as bad as everyone is saying it is. The only problem that i find is i have the put the soungs on in reverse order(14-1) Other then that the software is self explanitory.
The head phones are O.K (But who uses the headphones that come in the package anyway.)
I would recomend this product if you do not want to shell out the 300 bucks for an ipod but still want a 20 gig player.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great piece of equipment
I got mine on eBay for about $75 bucks. It had everything but the manual, and the software. That was all easily downloadable on the internet though. The software isn't too bad, actually.I originally got it to record lectures off of the internet, as I am going to law school online, but it doesn't seem to be so keen on doing that.It may work in the end though, I just haven't spent too much time on it.It didn't come with the headphones or the remote, either, but oh well. What do you want for $75? I think its a beautiful machine, by the way, and the sound is first-rate.It has locked up a couple of times, but that's been more my fault than anything. It will hold a ton of songs, too.So far, I'm pretty happy, but if I had spent $200 or so for it, I might have felt a bit different

4-0 out of 5 stars WoW better than i expected.
i recieved my hdd120 about a week ago. i only have a few complaints

PROS

black and white backlight
super scroll (awesome)
easy to use interface
inline headphone controls

CONS

headphones kinda hurt...just slide them into the ear

on/off button is the play/pause button --> kinda awkward but ull get use to it

protective case is sort of cheap

overall this is a GREAT PLAYER AND A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO THE IPOD

1-0 out of 5 stars stupid software
The machine is good.
BUT

I'v NEVER seen such a stuipd software before, especially for comercial electronics.
and the remote is CHEAP!
Philips software developer SUCKS!!
THE SOFTWARE IS ABSOLUTELY A PAIN IN THE S.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great player... get new software, ASAP!

I'd give this thing a 4.5 if I could... most people are giving this nice little player low marks for the requirement of using Philips' crap-tastic DMM software to transfer files.I almost didn't buy it for that reason, but I found that the people who make the dBPower Amp converter software also make a replacement program to use for transferring files onto the HDD120.

The Sveta Portable Audio program seems to do everything that the DMM didnt... including the ability to transfer my own files to and from my device/PC.It easily allows organization and playlist creation as well as letting you rip CDs directly onto the device.

My local Best Buy had these on clearance for $149... I'd highly recommend getting one at that price if you can!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Mp3 Player
Having purchased a Rio player and having nothing but problems
with it, I took it apart and re-soldered the bottons within 2
weeks of buying it(piece of junk) I'm a electronic technician
and the rio build quality was too say the least very lacking.

I decided to try the Rca product, it's sound is excellent,
build quality much improved compared too the Rio (I took it apart and checked it's easy too see how well a product like this is built when you see the inner workings).

4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for.
I managed to get this player when it was in the low $50's which makes it an even better deal as it looks like it is sold for over $100 some places.

This is my first MP3 player and so far I have had no problems with it.

One reason I choose this over the other RCA Lyra's was the battery life compared to the RD1090. The 2010 is 50 hours with one AA and the 1090 is 15 hours with two AA's

The 2010 also has the backlit screen where the two lower modle Lyra's do not.

The earphones clip over your ear and I have been skateing a mini-ramp while using the Lyra and the earphones have not budged.

Another reason I picked this brand as with the RIO Forges you can expand the memory. It sounds like you can use 1gb cards but I have not gotten one to try it with.I did get a good deal on a 256mb card and have used that now with no problem.

The FM tuner works fine for me I can get the major stations in the Philly area and I don't know why I would want to record something from FM but it's there if I want it.

Make sure if you buy this that you get the latest firmware. Right now it is 1.51.

The only reason not to give it 5 starts is the lack of a clock/alarm and they have not gotten the auto resume working yet. oh, also why do none of these things get in AM stations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just a regular mp3 player.....no bell and whistle.
This mp3 player is good. The headphone, memory expansion, and the ablitlity to record radio are the only plus that this mp3 player gives. If you are looking for those features and just those feater get this. The mp3 that my sis got, an new Iriver 128mb. Although it you can't expand the memory, it is an excellent mp3 player. It's gives sooo many options and features. It has all of the RD2010 excpet feature inculding fm recording. Also the radio reception for the Iriver is sooo much better. THe Rd2010 gives me a lot of hisses on every stations and the Irvier gave me none to little. Iriver even has clock and Rd2010 don't. THe iriver has everything eles you could think including changing EQ, Record from Line in, and more. I also tried one of those new Rio Forge ones, they are better than the RCA(except for the headphones) but not as great as the Iriver. THe Iriver headphones is not bad at all, the Rio headset was the worst. THe Rio Forge was good but the mp3 player suks and you can't record radio with a 128mb verision. (only with 256 + 512 MB)
THe thing that i hate about the RCA is that you can't even browse the songs while a song is currently playing, both the iriver and rio have the feature that you could do that.
Conculsion
Bottom line Both the Rio and Iriver gives you more feature and ablitilty than the RD2010.
I would recommend that you look into the 256mb Rio Forge, but looking at those reviews on amazon.com, people are saying that it will break sooner or later.
But if you can live with a none expandable mp3 player than denenately go for the Iriver.
And the nagivation interferance:
The Rio Forge no question has the best nagivation interferance.
The Iriver is next.
Unforinately the RCA RD2010 has one of the worst nagivation inferance.
AS for the button placement and usages. THe RCA is the best. Then come the Iriver and then the Rio. With the Rio it's impossible tooperate with one hand.

I am disaponited with this product beacuse of lack of features and options. But there aren't many product that gives you a good headphone, expanable capcity, and fm recording, and durable. So this product just OK but it could be a lot better.
Have any question about it feel free to email me at thecar099@yahoo.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Another point of view
Had to offer a counterpoint to the other review on this site trashing this little player.I got this for Christmas a few days ago and have nothing but great reviews. My friend got a red iriver and we've been comparing them all morning.Other than the iriver having a little flashier interface, this player stacks right up on every feature, at a little less of a price. You can drag and drop files right into the player from your computer, although if you prefer to organize them into folders, the included musicmatch software is relatively easy to use, and you can drag files into the playlists. The download time was relatively quick, and the sound quality is AMAZING.I would definitely recommend this to a first time user or someone that wants the convenience of lightweight portable music that doesnt want to shell out for an ipod.Recommended!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.Let the buyer beware.
I got this mp3 player yesterday and within 4 hours it was dead. It completely locked up after its first download. All functions ceased. The customer support is severely lacking. The RCA website is the most useless thing I have ever dealt with. Don't bother with e-mails because they won't be returned. I had to call a long-distance number to even get any tech assistance on this unit and the people were polite but seemed hardly surprised that I was having a problem. Their advice was to return the unit to the dealer because it was defective. I am returning it tomorrow for a REFUND. I'm willing to spend a little more money on ANOTHER brand. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Crap, utter and total crap
This is a piece of junk, the screen went out shortly after is was bought.Avoid at all costs.

1-0 out of 5 stars rca is junk
It takes 1 hour to fill the 64mb flash. If Real doesn't crash. You have to format the the memory card each time you use it, because you can't add or delete tracks off the memory. It uses an incripted mpx format mp3's (only 96-128 stereo) and real media (3...quality) must be converted. You can't drag and drop. The files have to be in the "play list". The batteries last 25min. There is no real "off" button. You buy it from RCA's website there is a 10 return policy and it takes 7+ days to mail it. And they won't take it back. The tech support can't handle anything other than "get new batteries". The install for the cardreader lockup the sys and [messed up] the regestry, had to sys restore from Ghost. Had to use install from another reader.
And the pres of RCA won't answer the e-mail I sent to his home AOL address. I will never buy RCA again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Player, Dump the Real Jukebox!
I received the 2204 player as a gift.It took me two hours to get the thing to work on my Windows XP.The card drive would ot install from the CD that was included with the player & the real jukebox crashed Windows XP each time I opened it up.I was worried becasue the literature says you absolutely cannot use anything but Real Player to load songs.

After about two hours and just before I chucked the thing out the window and bought an iPod, I went to the Lyra website, downloaded the drivers for the card drive & the drivers for Windows Media player & everything worked.

The machine is simple to use now that everything is talking to everything else. The interface is relatively intuitive.
The major drawback is the price of the media.[$$$] for a 64Mb flashcard! That's as much as a new Rio player & half the price of an iPod!

Would I choose this over the Rio or the iPod?I didn't even know about the Lyra before receiving it as a gift so I don't know.I was leaning toward the iPod.The Lyra seems to work fine and it suits my needs.I would have seriously considered this player based on the price and features.

I can recommend this player if it can be had at a low enough price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Price is Worth the Real JukeBox Hassle
I purchased my RCA MP3 player [on website] after comparing several models on this great Amazon.com web site. The unit, while appearing flimsy, has held up through much more than any of my CD players would take. In comparison to a Samsung model I have tried, the actual recording process to the memory card is MUCH easier, and that goes ditto for "transfering" CD tracks to be put on your MP3 player. I do have to agree that RealJukebox is not the best program out there, but I am VERY happy I bought this unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable and Easy to Use
If you plan on using a MP3 player while exercising, you need to get the Lyra.I freely admit that I am a klutz, and although I have dropped my player probably a good 50 times, it still functions without error and doesn't scratch or crack. The software is easy to use, allowing you to just drag songs from your desktop to the player. This allows you to completely switch all songs easily depending on your mood. Also, I recommend getting the car kit to go allow with this. The Lyra fits about 30 songs on it and I just plug it into my car. This means I have over 100 minutes of my favorite songs and don't have to switch CD's every couple songs. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars typical Rio dependabiliy
After reading these reviews, I had to offer my own experience. I previously bought a Nike PSA Play and had nothing but problems. This product was made by Rio to be sold under the Nike label. After dealing with Rio's so-called tech support, who couldnt do anything for me (it was an electronic defect), I decided not to buy another Rio product. Nike eventually switched to having Philips manufacture their MP3 products for them - judging from all of the negative feedback I've seen posted, I would guess it was because of the number of problems. I would have given Rio the benefit of the doubt by saying they were just in a hurry to get a new product on the market, but repeatedly seeing bad reviews about their current product line makes that excuse seem unlikely.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!
Even though it is advertized as a sport player. It is not durable enough. The worst part the player stopped to power on after 90-day-warranty expired. The rio customer support squeesed out "sorry" as a final word in my case. Well, actully before the final verdict, they offered me to repair it for $49 which I found insulting (bought the player for $80).

My final words - "Never Rio again."

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
These players are way too fragile. My first one lasted a week before it stopped working for no apparent reason.I returned it to Amazon and the replacement lasted 2 months before the FM tuner went out and the Volume down button quit on me.This player is a complete waste of time, money and life in general.

1-0 out of 5 stars More like a disposable player.
Bought this unit to replace a Rio S35 Sport model that had lasted about a year with heavy gym and travel use.The S35 was pretty durable, and a Rio replacement seemed like a good idea.

But the Rio Forge Sport is a big drop-off in quality.Much flimsier. And, as many other reviewers have reported, almost any bump or nudge causes a total shut down. The problem gets worse as the battery strength declines, so you only get about half of the battery's actual value before the player becomes totally useless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does the Job
I had a Rio Cali before I bought this unit and they work about the same - but this one looks more solid and durable. The Cali shut down on me on occassion but was never a big deal. It seemed to be sensitive to certain songs I loaded on it (maybe I ripped them wrong?) This unit hasn't done that to me (yet?).

I use the unit while working out, riding my bicycle, and even riding my street motorcycle.I picked up some nice Sony earbud headphones for it and the sound quality is great.I've added a 512 SD card - it has room for lots of music - and the battery life is incredible.I don't use the radio much - but it works.I've never used the stopwatch. The software is excellent and easy to use.

I wish the armband would narrow down a bit more because I prefer to wear it on my wrist (like a watch) when riding the bike. The armband is designed to be used on the upper arm - which would be OK for runners I suppose.I was able to adjust the Cali armband down - but I can't do the same thing with this design (it's different).

Overall - I'm very happy with it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Tried 2 units, both could not handle MP3s above 160 reliably
I purchased this player (RP2520) while on vacation.I had dropped my faithfull and workhorse AVC Soulplayer DMP-01 (basically a Re-branded Rio Volt SP100 or SP90) while exercising. After five years of service, I needed an MP3 player to get me through my 20+ hour drive home.I only had MP3 CDs with me.I went to three (national chain) stores on my last day of vacation and this RCA was the only one that had easy folder navigation (all my MP3 CDs contain albums, each in their own folder) and it came with a car kit at the cheapest price anywhere. It seemed like a good value at the time.

Well, you get what you pay for.The unit plays audio CDs without skipping at all, but MP3 CDs will lock and skip.... and I burn all mine to CD-Rs (not CD-RWs).The problem gets worse as you get near the end of CD.Now, any album I have that is only encoded at 160kbps or less (which is not very many) plays fine.VBR (variable bit rate) and 192/224/320kbps encoded MP3 have trouble after about 1-2 songs. It's as if the buffer gets full, and it's all downhill afterwards.I use high quality name-brand CD-Rs (Sony, Verbatim, TDK, etc).It doesn't matter which brand.MP3s all skip.Audio CDs and Audio CD-Rs all play fine.Strange and sad really.

I tried returning the unit for a second player... it did the exact same thing. So back to the store both units went.I guess I'll try to find a used Soulplayer or Volt SP100/SP90/SP250 somewhere. My Soulplayer never skipped on me once (too bad they don't make 'em anymore).I've heard good things about iRiver players too, maybe I'll have to look into those as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars No complaints
I have used this player for over a month now for mp3 discs that I have burned on my laptop or have gotten from a manufacturer (for example, audio books on mp3 CD). I have had no problems. The older RCA mp3 CD player had that proprietary (sp?) Smartrax system that was confusing until you read all about it in the manual--then it was okay for navigating. This model avoids the confusion by adding two buttons for navigating through file folders. So if you favor unabridged audio books on mp3 cd, this player will work great. I just drove 780 miles from central Texas to St. Louis for the holidays, and it played two complete novels fine on just two batteries. When you stop the player and then come back later and turn it on, it even remembers the track you left off on. (I have not yet played a regular CD or a CD-RW disc on the player, so the comments by the other two customers may be correct. But good, reliable mp3 cd players are pretty hard to come by, so the performance of this player satisfies me.)

1-0 out of 5 stars I got violated.
This could very well be the worst MP3 CD player I've ever owned.I had a RioVolt last year, that started breaking down after 2 months.I thought that was a terrible product.

This RCA, however, didn't even wait 2 months. It was a piece of junk from the beginning. The headphones had to be PULLED OUT a quarter inch for both channels of the stock headphones to be audible. That was okay, a minor flow, I thought.I put in an MP3 CD that I'd tested previously and found to be working fine.It took about 45 seconds for it to read the disc, and another 10 to load the first track. For a minute, it played normally, then stalled.I tried switching to another track on a different album (on the disc), and it refused to play at all.Often, it never reads the discs (no disc, it claims), or when it DOES play, it never stays stable for more than a few minutes.

As far as redbook audio CDs go, it often skips around, ignoring tracks or refusing to play at all.As we speak, I'm FIGHTING to get it to play the new Fates Warning album.I JUST took it out of the jewel case. It's never been played, no scratches...and this thing acts like it's diseased.Funny, the computer has no problem with it.

I always laugh at people when they say they'll never buy something from so-and-so company ever again because of a bad experience, but now I understand their angst.RCA should be ashamed to have this product on shelves.F*ck RCA.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works wonderful except for one flaw
This thing works well as long as you are using original cds or cd-r media. MP3 and audio playback was great. Once you insert a CD-RW media things take a turn for the worst. Whether you burn as a audio cd or as an MP3 cd, the playback is full of pops, crackles and interruptions. If you use CD-RWs then avoid this player, otherwise it will serve you well. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It was ok in the beginning then broke down
I was in the gym and it went on and then off. I then proceeded to try to turn it on and it did not work. I didnt not even try to fix the product b/c I read all of these awful reviews on amazon. I personally just went out and bought and iRiver iFP-890. I read the reviews on amazon and it was quite helpful. Again did not buy anything that is made by Nike Phillips b/c it seems to me it just doesnt work and it is a waste of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not made to last.
It busted after about a year's worth of average use, both the unit and the headphones shortly thereafter. But when it did work, had decent sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good For Sports
This isn't a high capcity player, but it's great for going to the gym, running, and other outdoor and indoor sports activities.

1-0 out of 5 stars Smash it with a hammer, you'll enjoy it more.
Bought because of past positive experience with Philips.Apx. 10 hours later, including 1/2 hour with live tech assistance & I have 1, single song loaded. Now player shows "0 bytes/0 bytes (0 bytes available)" & I can't load another song.More live tech assistance couldn't figure it out.Supposed to have "escalated" to supervisor, no call yet.

Asked for a refund.Nope.Can have a replacement. It will be more satisfying to smash it into pieces and send it to Philips than spend another hour trying to get it or a replacement to work.

1-0 out of 5 stars the wrst thing iv evr spent mi money on! don't buy it!
This is product is absolutely terrible. yeah, it looks great, but installing the software is impossible! when i first got it, there was something wrong with the battery they'd provided, so i wasted hours trying to find any decent customer support or help but i got nothing. The player wouldn't evn switch on. Then, i had to waste more money shipping the item back to get a replacement. When i first got it, i put the battery in and switched it on and it worked. Then when i tried to put it on again, it just refused to work. I tried to re-charge the battery but no use. You can't format it and it onli holdz 30 songzz. The headphones r reeli anoying coz u cnt evn turn ur head in them and there r way 2 many magnetz wich r useless. Im sik of trin 2 mke this product wrk so im gona scrap this junk and try 2 get a betr mp3 player. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars i2Go eGo is the BEST MP3 player on the market!
The beautiful thing about this MP3 player is that it uses CompactFlash memory, AND supports the new IBM 1GB Microdrive! I have a Kodak digital camera that uses CompactFlash, so the i2Go is 100% compatible with the memory I use with my camera. There are many CompactFlash readers available for a decent price which make adding/removing files to the memory the FASTEST of all the MP3 players. If you don't have a reader, the USB connection on the i2Go is fast enough (as fast as any other player). It may not be able to play WMA files, but I could't care less. Because this unit IS NOT DEPENDENT on proprietary software (if you use the CF reader), you can load/unload MP3's on almost any operating system, including Linux. All you have to do is drag-and-drop the MP3's to the CF reader drive letter. The i2Go can take up to a 340MB CF card, or a 1GB Microdrive which is the best in its class. The i2Go isn't the smallest player, but it's smaller than a tape player and it's built really well. To top it all off, the player was the best price I could find.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not your father's MP3 player.
This is a breakthrough product, to be sure. The supplied memory, a 340 megabyte, IBM drive alone goes for well over the selling price of this unit. The box is sleek, easy to use, has a pretty good software pkg (though there are better rippers on the freeware mkt) and offers a speaker (and a mic for recording) that will allow you to hear the music sans headphones (not gonna displace that boombox). So what's wrong? This is a more limited product than you might think. With the supplied drive, it requires being tethered to either your home PC (plug into USB) or to your car (plug into lighter socket), as its power needs go beyond what a couple of alkalines can give. It comes, however, with a nifty cassette adapter, so you can play it through your car stereo and have all your music on the road.If you want to play it without the cords, you have to buy an add-on CompactFlash card (Type I or II), which will run for several hours on the two AAs, but of course now the price has gone up and the capacity has gone down. My advice: If your MP3 needs are mostly automobile-bound, this will work fine. If not, look at other MP3 players, including the Nomad products.

5-0 out of 5 stars incredible!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Versatile, nice screen, great sound
I really like this player. It plays video files in addition to mp3s. The screen is very bright, but put a protector over it, as it scratches easily. Battery life is okay, lasts about 4-5 hrs playing videos. Bulkier than an iPod.

4-0 out of 5 stars shuttin off
the system is really good
with the vidoes and a lot of music about 4,000 or 5 im not sure but somewere in there but i have noticed that the archos shuts off when thouched the wrong way. its not really broken but you have to give it a light twist just to keep in going. it only does this cause of the tiny mother board inside and every thing is so tight in side. if this has happend to you just give the machine a light twist and hold the power button. except for that it is good when you get it to stay on its awsome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for what it is.
I am more than satisfied with mine. All the complaints about battery life are silly.I listened to hundreds of MP3 from Vienna to Singapore (12hrs) without the batter running out.I watched two of the Star Wars movies going from NY to Sao Paulo without the battery running out.I use it almost exclusively when traveling (or if I am taking a long walk) but I think it is a splendid little device and easy to transport.Much more utility than an ipod (IMHO).

2-0 out of 5 stars It's a great player... I just wish the batteries would last
The unit itself plays music very well, and you can make playlists and store a vast amount of files.
However, over the 8 months that I have had my player, I have had to send it in to get repaired 3 times for the same problem--after charging it for the whole night, the battery fails after one hour, though it's supposed to last for 8.Since this seems to be a reoccuring problem I would not recommend this mp3 player.

5-0 out of 5 stars The AV120 is incredibly useful
I have had this device for 1 year now and I love it. I use it primarily for listening to mp3 recordings of Howard Stern and Al Franken while at work.

The features are extensive and I have purchased the digital camera expansion as well as the radio adapter expansion. The latter is really only useful if you dont want to lug around another radio. The former does not give you great pictures, but it is wonderful for taking impromptu videos and snapshots if you dont have a digital camera. Its quite convenient to put all the attachments in a camera case and take everything you need with you!

I disagree with the reviews that are critical of the sound quality. The sound reproduction is excellent (better than the ipod imho) through both the headphone jack and through the RCA outputs.

Carrying this thing with a few of the optional attachments gives you:

1) Access to your music collection anywhere
2) The ability to watch/listen to pre-recorded radio and television shows
3) Low Quality (1MP) digital photos for impromptu snapshots (I have used the shots to make a webpage, document damage to my car and apartment when a camera wasnt handy, etc)
4) Portable radio
5) Portable Voice Recorder for meetings, lectures, etc (Records directly to mp3 and the quality is high if you set it up properly)
6) Portable Hard Drive: Works with windows XP without the need of drivers, etc (native XP support) giving you access to your files on the fly
7) Ability to output your music/video/digital pictures to any video/audio source with RCA jacks

The Archos was undoubtedly ambitious. Not all of the features are perfectly implemented, but for 299.99 you arent going to find a device that does all of these things. This is without a doubt a "nerd's" toy - you need to know what you are doing and be comforable with computers (and to an extent video compression) to enjoy this thing to the fullest. In the year that I have had this device I have found a use for it EVERY day. At work I listen to the radio or my music. I store data and presentations on it and use it to record meetings. I have shared home movies and pictures to friends with it numerous times. Ive even used it to DJ a party right from my mp3 collection. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but unimpressive
I bought this as a gift and I was looking for something less geeky than the iRiver ChromeX, which was the first choice. I just wanted a player that got the basics right and didn't involve dozens of settings. The brand name was there, I knew it was made in Japan, and the price suggested good quality for the features you get.

Based on my experience of the few weeks while it was still in my hands, my impression of this player is generally positive. The sound quality is good. I didn't look at the watch, but battery life was totally decent. The antiskip protection has passed several tests which have probably been more strenuous than real-life situations. And unless you're a geek, this player has pretty much all the features that you will need. I bought it last year, it's still being used and I haven't heard complaints so far.

There are a few things about it that I didn't like. I will mention them in order of their importance.

First, the lack of the fast forward and rewind functions while playing MP3s. I knew about it from the manual, prior to purchase, but I underestimated how important these functions are. It may vary with your listening habits, but if you listen to audiobooks or if you find yourself frequently skipping back and forth in a music track, this is not the player for you. Again, it only applies to MP3. Fast forward and rewind does work for audio CDs.

Another issue was the occasional overlapping between the end of one track and the beginning of the next when playing MP3s, but this happened randomly and it may have something to do with the quality of the CD.

A shortcoming that seems to be common to many CD-MP3 players are the "clicks" presumably generated by the buffering/antiskip algorithms. This player makes no exception. The clicks are there, very weak but still audible. They tend to occur when silence follows sound abruptly. If you pay attention, you will hear them at the end of music tracks. You may notice them if you listen to voice recordings even without paying attention. But you may not care about this. Audiophiles probably don't expect much from a portable player.

The browsing of MP3 CDs is limited to jumping by track or by folder/album. CDs with deep directory trees are not easy to browse, but otherwise you'll be fine.

The design is okay, but there's nothing "slick" about it. A little dull and bulky, actually. No back light on the LCD display, which makes it harder to use in the dark.

The included headphones have a wide spectrum, but they accentuate lower frequencies, which I find unnecessary, since the player itself has a bass-enhancing mode. However, many people like that, and if you don't, you can always replace the headphones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible piece of electronics ! ! !
(...).

This CD player is amazing for one simple reason:you can fit up to 15-17 CDs worth of music on it.I am fairly experienced with computers--I used Windows Media Player to 'rip' songs from 11 CDs from my CD collection, then burned them to ONE CD.Windows Media Player was able to automatically download song/album information using CDDB--navigating from CD to CD and within each virtual CD is a breeze.Now--I *have* put my MP3s onto a CD and I will acknowledge that many, many mp3s will fit onto a single CD.However, I am amazed that so many MORE WMAs will fit onto the same CD.The manual recommends ripping songs at 96kbps and this is fine for me.I notice no sound degradation at all.

The sound is very good.(...)

This is a very cool piece of technology and I am very pleased with the sound--but I am so over-the-edge happy about the WMA format and functionality.

This is a must-get.

3-0 out of 5 stars MISLEADING , but still good in otherways.
Let me first say I am no PC Wiz as it were, and This is my first CD player that I have brought that can play WMA AND MP3'S.
All that being said, let me tell you why I have given this only three stars.
I have a PC that has WINDOWS ME LET ME MAKE THAT CLEAR and try as I might, and I had verrrrrrrrry good help doing so. THIS CD PLAYER DOES NOT---- LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN, DOES NOT!!!! SHOW ID TAGS if you are using WINDOWS ME. XP is a different story and it should work fine for you. I brought this model because it can play just about anything you put in it, MP3, WMA, CDRW AND CDR.
BUT not being able to have the ID TAGS show is a real let down.I really don't need the display screen without it doing that so. It should have made things CLEAR and not just say it works with WINDOWS. RATHER IT SHOULD SAY , IT SHOWS ID TAGS WITH WINDOWS XP.

Somethings you just need to see and buy in a store to learn all the hidden facts, a lesson learned for me. I hope this helps you.

3-0 out of 5 stars A decent MP3/CD player that fits most needs.
I bought this CD player looking for an MP3/CD player with long battery life and durability.I got pretty much what I wanted -- the player's survived a couple tough falls (though it'll roll a bit if it lands on its side) and the batteries have held out over periods when I forgot to stop the music.I do have a few doubts as to whether they last for 48 hours, but they're good for at least 20, which serves my purposes fine. The claim of resumable playback is also questionable -- I've had some trouble getting it to work consistently.

One major feature that's lacking is fast-forwarding on MP3 CD's -- you can only do this on audio CD's, as holding down the seek buttons just move you up and down the folders in data CD's.But my only other complaint would be the lack of a LCD backlight -- it's really difficult to figure out what I'm doing in the dark, though the button configuration is still intuitive.I'd also have prefered a scrolling (vs. the button-based) volume control, but that's not all that important either.

The playback of MP3's and WMA's is useful, though if you have no use for the latter just save yourself some money and get the MP70 (unless you like the concentric ring design of the MP80 to the MP70's blue gradient). There are no problems with sound, a hold button exists, skipping has never happened to me, having ID3 tags is nice, and read time is good.

Priced on the lower end of MP3 CD players, I'd say this one is a good buy, but I'd shop around a little more to make sure you get the features you want. There's no remote or FM tuner on this one, and some players boast even higher battery lives. But if all you need is a reliable MP3 CD player that'll play everything on it reasonably conveniently (as long as you don't need to see song info in the dark or be able to search within an MP3 track), this may be the one you're looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD player, good quality
I think this CD Player is very good.I got it for Christmas and the only problem I have had with it was I was stupis enough to leave in my backpack and it got scratched. But that was me : ).I use it all the time, and it is great on batteries.48 hours on 2 AA. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Samsung Yepp YP-30S
I thought that this is a great MP3 player. I went to a media store, knowing that it was small, but when I first saw it, it amazed me. It was really tiny. Once I got home, I downloaded the software onto my computer, and started downloading songs on it. It has worked great ever since. The batteries last long, up to 15 hours. The software was easy to use. The only problems I had with it were that it didn't have very much memory, I couldn't pause, and some of the songs would't go onto it. I wish it either had more memory, or it had an expansion slot. When I stopped it, it turned off unlike a CD player. The worst problem was trying to download some of the songs. When I tried from My Computer, the songs wouldn't play. I found that I could use Windows Media Player. The songs played and most of the songs took up less memory than they should have. I would recomend this MP3 player to anyone who wants something small and easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Technical glitches and no poblem with the file manager !
This little thing is truly amazing ! As I read through all the reviews of users having problems, I can not help but wonder, if they might lack a bit of technical expertise. First of all, I have used this player on both, a Mac and a PC and if you handle the unit as you should any USB device, there are no hang-ups or any other technical issues. Never just disconnect a USB device from your PC or Mac or you are just asking for trouble (and that has nothing to do with the Yepp). Samsunghas released a software addition for iTunes and if you are using a Mac, this unit fully integrates into this application and makes managing your mp3s on the Yepp a breeze ! The sound quality is outstanding and the unit is so small and light, it is no problem taking it with you anywhere you want to go. The perfect little companion if you are a runner or if you just want to take some of your music with you.

5-0 out of 5 stars compact and easy to use
just got one and i love it. it's small, compact and easy to use.sound is good and battery life is long.no complaints.samsung has come a long way

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Jesus this is god to mp3 lovers out there

So anyways great player very light exellent software could use more memory but for the price i would go for it if you are on the edge of purchasing this great digital musical audoi and voice recorder

3-0 out of 5 stars Good product, BAD software
I have had this MP3 player for nearly a year now, and I have had no problems with it, other than the software.Like other reviewers have said, the software is horrible. It's not compatible with ANYTHING and it's generally difficult and awkward to navigate. The player, however, is durable, sounds great, lightweight and easy to use. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good
It's useful, and 256 is a good price i almost paid double that. Anyway I would like to give you some good info on it, if your planning yo put music on it record it manually, yes the sound quality isn't as good, and it takes longer, but... you can have about 5x more music on it, i recorded 5 songs onto a 8mb card.
just some useful info.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surpassed expectations
I had pretty low expectations when I first tried this camera.I had no idea how much it cost as it was a gift.It actually worked pretty well.Picture quality is decent for such a small camera. If you take the time to focus on an object, the picture comes out in focus and with decent color composition.

Plus batter life seemed very good considering you have to use the LCD(no view finder).

Recommended for someone wanting an on-the-go 2nd digital camera for snapshots.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good for its size
I would rank its 3 functions in this order: camera, MP3 player, video recorder. Details on each follow:

Camera: As a 2 Megapixel camera, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pictures. This won't replace a dedicated camera, but as a device you can always have with you, it does a good job. Its primrary limitations are the very short range of the flash (making group photos tougher than you would like) and the lack of zoom (it's a fixed-focal length lens set at a pretty wide angle).

MP3 Player: First the bad news - you have to use the supplied software to upload music to be played. The Jukebox software "locks" your music in an attempt to add some sort of digital rights management. Which means if you already have a large library of encoded music, you still have a slow import process to go through before you can put music on the device. Painful and unnecessary. However, the quality of the playback is good. I wish the cord on the headphones was longer. If you put a large SD card in this, you can have a 512mb MP3 player that is also a decent camera for not much more than a 256mb dedicated MP3 player.

Video recorder: This is pretty nominal. Resolution is fixed at 320x240 with a fixed (no zoom) wide angle lens. And you cannot move very quickly or the image immediately blurs. So it's OK as a quick use item and marginally better than the short video functions on most digital cameras. But don't buy this for its video ability.

Overall pros and cons....

Pros: Great form factor and design. Like the iPod, this is a device you just have to hold in your hands to enjoy fully. It is a pleasure and a delight (it is also smaller than the iPod!). It is really impossible to convey how petite, yet right-sized it is without seeing it in person. Camera is better than you expect and MP3 playback is decent.

Cons: At less then $200, this would be a deal. At current prices, it is slightly steep. Since they only throw in an 8 Mb SD card, count on getting a 128/256 Mb card yourself for photos/music (another $60-120). Or even 512 Mb if you want to do video capture. But be aware that the video mode is pretty nominal. The lack of any optical zoom hurts as well.

Overall, I would recommend to those lookng for a small, all-in-one device. Particularly if you already have invested in SD cards for other devices. Shop around and aim for as close to $250 as possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good cam if small size is important
I got this camera about 6 weeks ago.I have heard that the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it.So that would make this a good camera.I take it with me everywhere because it is so small and fits in my pocket. It is no more inconvenient to carry than a cell phone.

A couple problems I have with it are that the lens rotates so you can take a pic of yourself....but the flash does not rotate with the lens.So if you are in a poorly lit area and want to take a pic of yourself, all the benefits of having a rotating lens are lost. This is only a minor problem to me, but I think it is poor design.

The second problem is that the SD card it comes with is small...very small.8mb.Is that some kind of joke? Most digital cameras come with small memory cards, but they are promoting this thing as a multi function device: camera, camcorder, mp3 player. My Panasonic mp3 player came with a 64mb card, why does this come with only 8mb?It is supposed to be an mp3 player too. They might as well have not included any memory with this camera.I was lucky that I bought it while Panasonic was having a promotion and they sent me a free 128mb card.Which only took about 1 week to arrive, not 6-8 like they said.

I only use the camera function, so I cannot comment on the other functions, but overall I am happy with it.However I would not want this to be my only camera. When I go on a trip or someplace where I know I will be taking a lot of pics I will bring a different camera, as this camera is only 2mp and does not have an optical zoom.If you want a small camera you can carry with you at all times then this one is good.If small size is not the most important thing to you, then you should look at something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars God toy!
Picture quality is just OK for email or memo.
It is not good for print out.
But I always can carry and easily take a photo as memo.

Music player function is very good. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I have had almost zero problems with this
This product has performed as expected for me and I have not had the software problems that some others obviously have experienced.I have also found the product easy to use and it works perfectly with my laptop.I had some issues with setup, but nothing that I could not solve myself with some general monkeying round.I have about 16GB of music loaded on mine and it works fine every time I use it.My only complaints are battery life seems a bit short and the manual is not very good. Also, I agree that the design is not as attractive as the ipod.Overall I'm very satisfied.

1-0 out of 5 stars Software Problem
Generally Samsung MP3 players are very weak because of their poorly designed softwares. I bought YP-925GS and had to return it because of software issues and this unit uses the same software. I have been given Samsung MP3 players in the past for free and same issues with poor software.

1-0 out of 5 stars i've never owned a bigger piece of crap.
this product is god awful and has been nothing but trouble since I recieved it as a christmas gift last year. the first one I owned was defective fresh out of the package- none of the controls would respond (and yes, the hold button was off and yes, the battery was fully charged). i got best buy to exchange the player for a functional one and while adding tracks to it from my computer this brand new 2nd player froze up and ceased to work. after re-setting it, it became totally non-responsive; I'd turn it on, the blue lights would appear, but the screen would stay blank. I went through hell trying to get Samsung to repair it and once they finally agreeded to and sent my player back to me the same glitch occurred while transferring music to it via my cd player.

also, if you have a software problem you can't get Samsung to help you since the software is by Napster (and they don't communicate w/ Samsung). So if you have to call customer service prepare to be on the phone forever.

Please don't buy this product, it'd be better to just flush your $400.00 down the toilet. In a rush to cash in on the iPod market they released this player full of bugs. F**ck this thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT Buy the Samsung YP-910GS
This has to be the worst MP3 player ever made!Mine has been in the shop THREE times in the six months I have owned it.Everytime it is the hard drive failing. This started out as a good idea but they missed the boat on this one.Samsung makes great other products but they should stay out of the MP3 player business.Buy a Rio or Ipod!I warned you!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your time
This gets 2 stars because I really liked the hardware. Problem is, the software is from Napster and the hardware is from Samsung and even though they say they are in "partnership" the software doesn't work with the hardware at all.

Simple things like ripping a CD to the Samsung is a nightmare. The software acts like it's pulling CD data from CDDB, but it's not. You either get a garbled mess, or nothing. Even though the manual says that you can build a play list on your computer and then drag and drop it to the Samsung, you can't. In order to do practically anything, you have to sign in to Napster first.

And, of course, when you call for technical support, Napster blames Samsung and Samsung blames Napster. Both are pretty clueless.

Just get a standard MP3 player and forget about this Napster/Samsung stuff. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This Version
This is the version of the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra with a faulty headphone jack. You want item model number 70PD055000032, not 70PD055000017. The other one is the same product, just manufactured at a later point and they have fixed the headphone jack problem. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works
I bought this wondering if it would work as well as some said or turn into the nightmare that some (the few) said.It is Great and works like a dream. One thing:Read on how to use the product...that took a bit of getting out of "I'll figure it out" but the scroll wheel was something that once I read it was easy.I have 2000 songs in another format (real player) and the stubborness in me made me want it to work.Real player had the problem but all turned out well.I don't have a problem with the cover coming off.I don't have a problem with dropping it (duh, I don't treat it like a basketball)I have room to spare for more songs and playlists and others others asking me how to buy at this price because Ipod is so expensive that it's pricing itself out of a market that is not only easy to use with multiple formats but for those who do not want to take the time to convert or re-load all their music.I give it 5 stars knowing that I had a great experience and "didn't have to ask customer service for help... didn't drop it and am semi-computer literate (and realistic to know that asking directions sometimes = reading the directions)"I have a friend that asked me if he should buy...?I said YES!

1-0 out of 5 stars Decent player... while it lasts
After a little over a year my Zen Xtra has stopped playing sound. Everything else works it just appears to be a faulty headphone jack which is a common problem on Creative's players. On a dinky $30 portable I wouldn't expect much but on a $300 device this is just unacceptable.

Their warranty period and customer service is a joke. Go have a look at their forums. Stay away from Creative products. There are other alternatives out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Steer clear of all Creative MP3 players
I love my Zen Xtra 40GB - well at least I loved my Xtra. The player is great, except for one major detail - the shoddy quality of the headphone jack.IT WILL FAIL! If you get lucky it will still be under warranty. If you aren't expect to pay at least $40 for the clowns at Creative to fix it.If you think I am just flaming them, check out their forums.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Happy After a Year
I got this for Christmas in 2003, and have used it regularly ever since (every day to/from work, plus during travel, in the car, etc.).I've still got tons of storage, and it's no worse the wear even after a couple of drops.I find the software very easy to use, so no complaints there either. It's not as cute as the iPod, but frankly, I didn't find the trade off of price vs. size worth it -- the Creative is still plenty light enough to loop on your belt while you're walking.

The only complaint I have is that if I haven't used it for a couple of days, it needs to re-boot on startup. This takes about three minutes, so it is annoying.Still, this jukebox gets my hearty endorsement -- a friend got it on my recommendation, and I got my wife the 30MB version this past Christmas (to her great delight). ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Info needed on picture quality (video, digital stil image)
Dear Reuben Gathright "rgathright",

Your review gave more insight into the product DV4500. My requirement is to buy a digicam with decent camcorder options.

I saw this device and gone through product specs and got quite interested, then decided to buy.

After seeing your review, I come across the statement- "poor lens capability which affects picture taking". I want more info on this, since that is the deciding factor for me to buy.

Please provide info on that. Say, a. does the lens affects both video and digital picture quality?

b. I basically want to capture pictures from photos, close-by people, close-by sceneries. I want those pictures (still images) to be of good resolution and more clarity (visibility).

Please reply me. You can also suggest me any other good models which satiusfies my basic requirement
[...]
Thanks & Regards,
Kalyan

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a Digital Camcorder
This camcorder takes decent quality video using solid state memory. This allows the camcorder to resist G-forces that normal cameras would balk at!I use 512Mb memory cards to record the video.I can usually out live the battery life before the card gets full.I bought this camcorder recently and enjoy the ability to get two angles on my movies, using the DV4000 and DV4500 at the same time.Camera is very lightweight and can be mounted with simple tie wraps to any position. The "beep record" function lets me know it is recording without having to open the view finder.

The problems with camera are: 1) poor loud audio handling, cuts out.2)Poor lens quality which affects picture taking.
I do not work for Mustek.I have used their DV4000+ camcorderto take my racing videos [...] for over a year now and love it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very satisfied

For $147 what could I really expect? I ordered this camera/camcorder 6 in 1 item and returned it the next day. I needed something small for traveling and it fits the bill for that. The battery life is not very good however, but the driving factor for returning it was very very very poor image quality.

I dont ask much out of this thing, but for being 4mp it acts like a 1mp camera just blown up to a high pixel grid. It underexposes inside and overexposes outside. The video quality is decent actually, despite the smaller size, or despite the lower frame rate on the 640x480. I was going to keep it and deal with the poor digital still quality, but on my last tests, upon playback, i noticed the images bent and jumped... this was it and so it was returned. For the money i paid for this i can easily buy just a regular camera with a full 3.2mp and optical zoom with a major brand name... so thats what i am doing. live and learn, not a bad thing for a child or a teen perhaps, but not good for backpacking in India and taking just a half decent shot of some beautiful architechture etc...

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
Perfect. No problems!Sleek look.I am very happy with me purchaseAnd Reccommend it to others.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!!!
This player SUCKS!OK, it does have a voice recorder and fm recorder (which record in the large, but non-propietary .WAV format) and an fm radio (who's reception is spotty at best), but aside from those "features" this thing is absolutely horrible.Oh yeah - It doesn't require any software.Windows sees it as a removable drive, which is good (and bad - see below). Also, it is very small and cute, which was a selling point for me, but that's not nearly enough to make up for it's shortcomings.

The first one I bought broke right away while I was transferring files (granted, I didn't read the manual first, but you really shouldn't need to - you should be able to plug in and go, especially considering there is no software to install). I had no problem with Win XP recognizing it as a removable drive, but I think what happened was that I tried dragging over a folder with-in another folder (the player only supports 1 level of folders, and I had mine set up //artist/album/file.mp3). Windows sees this as a drive, so as far as Windows is concerned there should be no problem in creating multiple folders. But, instead of giving an error, the transfer just crashed and the unit would not respond.Even after multiple attempts at removing the battery to reset it, it still would not respond. Not a good start.

So I returned it and got another. This time I made sure that my files were only one folder deep (aside: since this player does not "see" folders really, it treats them as playlists. for a unit that proudly displays it's drag-and-drop capabilities on it's package, it seems odd that it doesn't support a folder view. i haven't tried non-music files, given how easily it killed the system by just trying to create a third level of folders. also, just like first generation mp3 players, if you want your songs to play in a particular order, you had better name them that way, as the manual suggests, by add "001","002", etc to the begining of the file/folder.)

Figuring out how the navigation works was a chore.Much of my time was spent in trial-and-error trying to figure out how to navigate around this thing (again, should you really need to read a manual just to figure out how to play a song?this is ridiculous!) Which brings us to my biggest complaint:

THE SCREEN IS UPSIDE-DOWN!!!

Seriously. What I imagine happened was that they put it all together, and some tester said that the buttons should be on top of the unit instead of the bottom, so instead of redesigning it, they just flipped the screen. This is apparent because the buttons are BACKWARDS!! That doesn't make sense?OK, let me explain.Normally, being from an an engligh speaking/reading country, you assume that, given two buttons, the one one the left would be "back" and the one on the right would be "forward" (picture the navigation buttons on any vcr, tape player, dvd, cd... ok, pretty much anything that has navigation buttons). This is not the case with this unit.I constantly find myself going back when i want to go forward, lowering the volume when i want to raise it, etc. It's extremely frustrating and annoying. Another hint that they just flipped the screen is that the writing on the back of the unit is upside-down compared to the screen (but, if you turn the unit over, at least the buttons make sense.you just can't see what's going on on the screen).

Speaking of the screen. It's easy enough to read, but holds hardly any info on it.4 lines with a max of 12 characters each (and that's one line for the name of the song, one line for the folder/playlist, one line for the timeframe, and the last line for system settings, like battery level, etc.so really it's just two lines with a max of twelve chars). It's also very low res compared to other current generation mp3 players i've used.

The voice recorder seemed to work well enough, but given how poorly designed everything on this unit is, I'm not even going to test that or any other feature any further. This is definitly not worth it, even at the fairly low price.iRiver, iRock, Rio, and a few others have similarly priced units that, although not perfect, are worlds ahead of this thing.

if this would have come out 4 years ago it would have been pretty good.but given it's current competition, this is about as bad as it gets. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great value except mp3 player
it's a good deal especially for the beginner.
but dont put too much expectation on it. it's so tough to use the jukebox software to transfer data. i cant figure it out until now.
pls help me up email me at jeffsun1008@hotmail.com

1-0 out of 5 stars Great looks, but great shame about the MP3 player facility
Panasonic would have you believe that the SVAS-10 plays MP3, WMA and AAC music files, but after buying one of the units I was dismayed to find it doesn't. To copy music onto the SVAS-10 you can ONLY use the SD Jukebox software (supplied with the unit) The software encrypts your music before sending it to the unit, making it a very slow process. Even worse, you can never again rename, copy, move or edit music files on your computer, as the player will refuse to play them again. Worse still, if you encounter a problem that requires you to reload Windows on your computer, you can't listen you your music files on the player again - instead you have to delete all the files, and copy them from their origional CD's again. So if for example you have coppied your old records and cassettes onto your computer, and then thrown the originals away, you will only be able to listen to them on that computer - if you later buy a new computer, and copy your files accross to it, you cant listen to your music on the SVAS-10.

All the other features on the unit are fine, and the device does look great - but if you want to listen to music, dont bother with the SVAS-10

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy two of them !
You will surely need one as a gift. It's a very, very nice camera... it is my first Digital CamCoder, and I'm trully satisfied.Panasonic has made an outstanding job with this.

Small, fancy, good resoluntion, lots of accessories.Just enough for me... I have to say that is a camera for traveling (not for a proffessional), also usable as MP3 player... really cool if you dont need more than 2MP.After a year of use, I do not recommend it for dark or night pictures... they just don't come out nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars small in size and ok picture quanlity
first, the camera has a really cool color, orange, blue and silver. It had music player, still picture, voice recorder, and video, a lot of functions. In a really small of camera size. It used SD memory card, so you can keep data on multiple card, you nevr run out of memory. If you dont need super super clear picture quanlity, I would say it is the best camera! ... Read more

Product Description

Apple presents iPod - the first MP3 player to pack a countless number of songs and 10 hours of battery life into a stunning package you can literally take everywhere. It's your entire music collection. With no moving parts, the iPod's touch-sensitive scroll wheel is less vulnerable to dust, dirt or sand and more durable. The touch-sensitive scroll wheel is designed to retain its crisp feel throughout the lifespan of your iPod. There's even a clicker that makes a tiny clicking sound when the scroll wheel is moving.Small though it is, the iPod packs a lot of storage. The number of songs it holds depends on the compression rate you choose. At a 160Kbps compression rate (the default setting for encoding MP3s in iTunes), 5GB equals approximately 1, 000 songs, or about 100 CDs. That's how big it is on the inside. And with that much space, you might also find yourself storing documents, files and applications on your iPod in FireWire disk mode. iPod's rechargeable lithium polymer battery gives you 10 hours of continuous playback. In a hurry to get it recharged? Fast-charge the battery to 80% of capacity in an hour, and get it fully recharged in three hours. With an industry-leading 20 minutes of skip protection, iPod keeps playing without missing a beat. iPod has a 32MB solid-state memory cache, meaning that it has no mechanical or moving parts. Skip protection works by continually preloading up to 20 minutes of music into the cache, so your iPod is not affected by sudden movements. The 10GB and 20GB iPod models include a clip-on wired remote control that lets you fast-forward or rewind a track, play, pause and adjust volume using just one hand. They also include a designer carrying case with belt clip that protects your iPod from the elements and lets you clip it to your belt, backpack or purse. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Apple 20 GB Second Generation iPod
If you need more songs and you are willing to spend $499.99 I would recommend this iPod to you. This is the second generation 20 gigabyte iPod. This iPod holds about 4,000 songs at near CD-quality. I don't have this version but I do have the 10 gigabyte version (plus another few iPods). I think Apple has designed their MP3 players extremely well. I love the white coating on the top and the metal-finish at the back. People do not see too much difference between the first and second generation iPods. There really isn't too much change accept now the scroll wheel isn't mechanical; that's the only big change. There is a cover for the connectivity ports and the 10GB version is a bit thinner than the first generation 5GB version. This iPod is about .80" in depth which is pretty thick. The 10GB is still .78" but you can still see the difference. Now iPods are really thin especially with the mini but the new fourth generation is extremely thin as well. This weights about 6.5 ounces which is kind of heavy but it will still suite you well. The battery life on this is about 10 hours which isn't too bad compared to the third generation iPod's 8 hour battery life. I would recommend you getting a case so the metal or white plastic on top will not get scatched. This iPod has really everything you need: playlists, calender, games, phone book, etc. There is only one game though (Bricks) but I love Bricks and I think you will enjoy it as well. On my 10GB version I have about 1,500 songs which fit perfectally onto my playlists. It comes with MusicMatch Jukebox but I would recommend getting iTunes. I would look into the iPod but not this one. Get the fourth-generation iPod or any other kind of iPod you like. But this is all around a very good package and especially now it's really cheap!

1-0 out of 5 stars Service.What service?
I bought the iPod from Amazon and it was delivered about a week ago. I also bought the Apple Care Protection plan. The product seems to work fine except I am having minor but irksom problems 'navigating' using the buttons and wheel thing. I am using it for an Audible book which is supposed to start where you left off. Well, after 7 hours it decided to start at beginning again. I try fast forward and the thing goes to the next book.I want to just finish the last hour of the one that is being played.

So, I call what they call Customer Service and find that they won't give me any advice whatever until I FAX in a copy of my shipping document from Amazon and another sheet with a magic number on it from within the extended service package. They say that Amazon is not an authorized reseller and that they cannot check my order and date of sale from Amazon.

I explain that I do not have a FAX machine, and that I will go send the stuff in a few days when I feel like walking that far using my crutches.

I think that it is probably a good product, but if you are in any way handicapped and it is not convenient for you to run around to get their service, I recommend not buying it.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE gadget of the year!Maybe Decade!!!
This is amazing.A must have for any traveler. The easy firewire plug for charging is great.I like it better then the funky new charging firewire layout. This is simply standard. The unit itself it pretty tough.I dropped it running and it didn't skip or anything.Amazing battery time and everything. The one thing I don't like is the way Apple set up their mp3 sharing so that you can only copy music onto it or delete music. You can't transfer music back off it.This is probably to keep the record companies happy.iTunes is great. And the unit is great simply to use as a portable Hard Drive as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for running or jogging!
If what you want is a portable device to run or jog with, simply forget it. It freezes after three or four songs (every time) and it is just the way it was built. I sent it for repair (they charged $29.99 for shipping), just to have it back with the same problem and the explanation that iPod's skip protection just lasts 20 minutes, even while Apple's website specifically states you can run with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars What could be better than.. iPod?
Steve Jobs wants you to be cool, and this is the hardware he wants you to do it with. You can store enough music on this baby for a continuous week of hi-fi stereo tunes, and you can keep her charged up with the included adapter or by plugging her into the FireWire port.

No FireWire port? That's a problem, because you need to connect the iPod to a FireWire-equipped Mac in order to get tunes onto it.It takes about 5 seconds to transfer an average track - blazing fast! You can put your whole library on here in less than an hour, using the easy drag-and-drop iTunes software.

And now, you can even use your iPod to play back tunes purchased from Apple's online music store, in the high-quality AAC format!

I get about 2 hours per charge (I play high volume to drown out subway noise), and my iPod is sturdy enough to go biking with no skips.I don't bother using the wired remote or the belt clip; but I do use a car adapter to get my tunes playing over my car's stereo system! And I occasionally use the iPod as a portable hard disk as well!Fits right in my pocket!

So, if you want maximum cool and maximum tunes, look no further! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very unique
The look is unique, and it's easy to wear and operate. It's extremely light. But you need to buy an adapter at Radioshack to make other headphones work with it.And it's a bit of a drag not having an LCD screen. But the computer interface is very easy and quick.I think it's cool!

Pros: Cute, small, innovative headphone design
Cons: No LCD, no menu functions, cheap-feeling, not durable, cannot use your own headphones or USB connector, etc. ... Read more
