5-0 out of 5 stars Great little gadget
I got my Joybee several days ago. I really love it. I had read many reviews here and on other websites and many of them were saying to get a different set of headphones for it. So I did that
I got a set of the Sennheiser MX500 and a set of Koss (the Plug)and ordered a set of panasonic but they were out of stock. so I could make a comparison my self. Well here is what I found. The player has plenty of power and I found that the set of earphones that come with the Joybee sound way better than any of the other ones. Just got the sennheiser ones in today and they do not have near the bass capability as the ones the come with the Joybee. Except for the color they look identical in construction, but the joybee earphones sound much better. When I first got them I thought they sounded tiny and cheap and I was using the Koss plugs and they kicked butt especially on the bass end. then I was fiddling around with the stock earbuds and putting them in the ears different ways. And Holly smokes I put them in sideways and they really kicked.Put them in sideways with the little stem towards the back of the ear and sticking out horizontally. the earbud disk itself is in a vertical position with the face of the transducer facing straight forward then stick them in and they hold quite well and sound great. I did not use any cushions with it. Quite comfortable. But other people ears may have varying results. this set has deep bass that rivals a big sub-woofer, and i have to run it at about 8 on the volume scale of 10. So if you consider getting any other earbuds for this unit you wont do any better unless you go to the higher priced models and I have not tested any of them.
As far as the Joybeeitself I am real happy with it. It does what I bought it for to play mp3 files. And it does that very well. I cant see much room for improvement in the sound quality and volume.

5-0 out of 5 stars excelente reproductor de MP3

... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a very good product for the price
The user manual is poor. But there's no need to use it because the device is very easy to use as a player and it has a built-in equalizer. It also plays WMA and WAV files, and have a feature to display the lyrics of the songs, which is more than you can expect from a 50 dollars device.

The upload is just like any other USB drive and you can store any kind of files you would want to carry with (just keep in mind that the device must be turned on to be used as a USB drive.) It doesn't need any software or driver for Windows XP. But if you still have Win9x, the drivers are included on the CD that comes with the product.

In the CD also comes a software for the built-in phone book, but I don't recommend it, because it is so poorly designed.

The voice recorder is very useful too and it works fine, although it's not very intuitive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sadly not worth the $70 bucks
Please read the reviews carefully.I could not play songs downloaded from any major download site. There is no manufacturer's warranty. There is not tech support. The radio picked up one very fuzzy station. The "manual" is tiny, hard to read, written in poor english and of no help.If you intend to download only MP3 files from obscure sites with songs like, "Ray Charles Greast as sung by Joe Blow," the player may work for you.For what it's worth, I liked the ear clips and ordered a pair of RCA clips for the MuVo TX I just ordered to replace this.

4-0 out of 5 stars MP3 Player
I ordered this on a sunday and it came on a wednesday. It came faster than expected. I think that it is better than an i-pod. It is definatly worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really not as bad as some people say
Lets start by saying this is a really inexpensive player. I got this on the street, on-sale marked "Clearance", for quite a bit less than what it costs regular price at retail stores/sites.

It does exactly what it's supposed to. It plays MP3 (8-320kbps, VBR too), WMA, and WAV.

You plug it into an available USB port, and copy (any) files to it the same way you would copy files to a hard drive, Zip, floppy, or USB flash drive. Windows recognizes it as a USB 2.0 Mass-Storage Device. It does not require any drivers or special software of any kind to use in Windows XP/2000 or MacOSX.

The interface is pretty straight forward. You navigate using the mode switch, which also "clicks" like a mouse. There is also play/pause button, which powers the player on and off by holding it down. There is also a hold switch to avoid activating the player accidentally inside a backpack or your pocket.

I tested the voice recorder out by recording class lectures, which turned out at least intelligible. The files are by default 32Khz WAV. There is probably a way to change the sampling rate, although I'm not sure how yet. In any case, the recordings are easily playable using the player itself, or Quicktime, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, etc.

Supposedly this device also contains an FM tuner, although I myself have not seen any proof of this. No luck so far accessing it, or a firmware update. If I find one, I'll post the link here. Stay tuned! (punn intended)

Lastly, the device requires a single AAA battery (included) for power. It draws power from the USB port when connected. It also includes necklace-style earbuds, a USB extension cable, a somewhat useless manual, and a CD which I didn't need.

I recommend a nicer pair of earbuds, like Sennheisers, and some good tunes to go in it.

The only complaint I have is the lack of firmware updates.

Also, I did find the company's website: www.kbytememory.com

For the price I paid, you can't go wrong.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool looking product
I got this as a freebee from Staples (Buy a Palm Zire, get this free). Its true the manual is in babblefish english, but you really don't need it (Even the label on the machine calls itself a 'Voicerecoder".The machine plugs directly into the usb port.It seems to transfer kind of slow, but it does what it should do.The headphones are cool, you wear a lariat and the headphones are built into the lariat. The only problem is I have used it for about a month the the right channel has gone out. Also, unless you have big ear holes, the earbuds won't fit in your ears.

I listen to old time radio and audio books exclusively.I LOVE the fact that you can stop it and it will start right back up where it left off, even when powered off. Also, it can get loud enough for me.These are two things that have made me return players more than once (Lyra, Sony MP3 Walkmans, Newer Rios)

Pros

  • Cool looking
  • REALLY smart earphone design.
  • Starts up where it left off
  • Loud (it goes to 20)
  • Good battery life (takes 1 AAA)
  • People notice it, its almost like having jewelry or something.
  • Backlit so you an see it in the dark.
  • You can fast foreward within a track. (You can't rewind beyond the start of the track though - say you missed the last 5 minutes of the previous track)

Cons

    [...]
  • The FM transmitter doesn't work.Requires firmware upgrade, which is unavailable.
  • After a month the headphones broke. Can't fine a replacement anywhere I looked.
  • Earbuds don't fit your ears, hurt after a while since you have to strech your ear canal to make them stay.
  • Design tries hard, but its confusing first time and hard to use without looking at it.

I hope this helps. This is about a 30-40 dollar player. When they get to rev 2, I think it would be worth 50-60 dollars easy. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Samsung Yepp Hip Hop is easily one of the coolest-looking digital audio players around, and we found ourselves offering it up like an excited kid at show-and-tell. The player's small size and its groovy translucent color never failed to impress coworkers and friends, while its excellent sound also brought raves.

The most outstanding feature of the Yepp Hip Hop is its size--only 3.2 by 2.4 by 0.97 inches, and 1.7 ounces. It's the size of a deck of cards (and just a bit lighter), and it fits neatly into a plastic pouch for wearing around the neck. We were a little dubious about how comfortable the neck cord would be, but a trip to the Laundromat with the Hip Hop went off without a hitch. The player was barely noticeable, and so light it didn't get in the way of fluffing and folding. Yet the controls were easily reached and the great sound made the hours of drudgery fly by. Better yet, it never skipped a beat, even when it was inadvertently slammed against a dryer a few times.

Samsung has packed 64 MB of onboard memory into the Hip Hop, enough for 60 minutes of music without fiddling with cards or paying for more memory. But if you want more playback the player's SmartMedia slot has room for flash memory cards for another 64 MB, enough for another hour of music, an impressive capacity for an MP3 player at this price. Sound quality was very good, even with the included cheapo earphones--the dynamic range was crisp and had clean tones at both high and low ends.

To download music to the Hip Hop, use the included USB cable to access the player's flash memory, format it, and transfer songs. You will need a USB port on your PC and Windows 98, 2000, or Me (Windows 95 and NT are not USB compatible); it is also compatible with Mac OS 7.0 to 9.2.1. Follow the directions in the manual for adding a USB driver to your system.

The Yepp Hip Hop comes with RealJukebox software for ripping CDs, which took quite a bit of tinkering to get it to work right (make sure to check security and encoding settings). The Hip Hop's manual didn't help much and unless you log on to the Internet, you won't have access to RealJukebox help. But once the software was set up, it took us only about 30 seconds to encode a track into MP3 format, and then another minute or two to move it to the Hip Hop. Figure on 45 minutes to fill up the full 64 MB memory.

Controls on the Hip Hop are basic. The buttons are the size of BBs, which were sometimes difficult to operate. The included remote control with backlit LCD adds a few more features, like reverse, hold, and four equalizer settings, but search functions are primitive.

Ultimately, its software and hardware limitations might not make it the best MP3 player deal on the market. But with its cool design, sound quality, and portability, the Yepp Hip Hop more than holds its own as an entry-level MP3 player. --L.E. Klein

Pros:

  • Tiny and light--can be worn around the neck
  • Good sound quality
  • Comes with remote and earphones
Cons:
  • Basic search functions
  • Software is a pain

4-0 out of 5 stars A not bad player.
well ive had my yepp for about 2 years now, its been dropped many times and the paint has worn off in many places. but there are no cracks on the case and the sound quality is just as good as the day i got it. i do suggest getting a new pair of headphones. And you should also use the yepp explorer instead of the realjutebox. overall a good product for the prrice i got it for.

2-0 out of 5 stars Yepp NO
Ok...first of all this comes with real audio...real jukebox...with no support for Windows Media Player...Now you'd figure that Real Audio would make the thing work with Real One...Yepp? NO...

Heres the thing just download the mp3 software that communicates directly with the Yepp player from Samsung ...which is better anyway...Yepp? Yep..
Other downers...the unit does not time out...so if you leave the battery on it will be very dead!! Yepp? YEPP!! Also if you have it in you pocket and lean against something...dead battery..and dead yepp..
It needs a smartmedia card...otherwise it's total useless...but it only takes 64mb...so unless you are listening to the "best of asia"...this going to be frustrating..not enough songs!! Yepp!!
So if you are looking for something cheap...then this is ok...but it burns batteries like crazy...so keep extra batteries with you!!! YEPP!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Gift
I purchased this MP3 player for my friends birthday, and he really loved it.It was such a good deal, only 45$ and the perfect example of new music technolagy. He carries it everywhere, in his smallest pocket, and is able to listen to over 100 hours of any songs on the web. Now thats a real deal.Listening to the best artists in the world from a 2-ounce device.Yepp has perfected music.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like its look
very beautiful, I like it. And it works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best MP3 CD Player
I started out with a Rio Volt to play my MP3s on the go.What a piece of junk. Then I purchased a Nomad Jukebox. It holds 10gigs of MP3s, but the battery life is short, and I wanted something relatively cheap I could afford to leave in my car.Enter the Samsung MP3 CD player which I found on sale and with a substantial rebate that rivals the price of other portable CD players. It plays my CD-Rs and CD-RWs almost flawlessly.(I blame the few glitches I've encountered on scratches and cheap media.)I listen to audio books and text-to-speech MP3s (as well as music) in my car during my commute, and the last track memory (a.k.a., resume) feature is an absolute must. This player also starts up a lot faster than any other portable MP3 player I've seen.Battery life is good...maybe 8 or more hours using rechargeable batteries.I've owned enough portable music players to know to just throw away whatever headphones/ear buds that are included, and use my own.I'm going to buy another one of these players for use around my house as soon as I see it on sale again and throw out my Nomad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value
I bought this player to use during my daily 4 miles of walking around my neighborhood, so the anti-skip feature was important. The player does a very good job with the anti-skip protection. As long as I carry the player above my waist so that my leg movement doesn't jostle it a lot, the player works quite well, with only an occasional minor glitch. If not moving, the player works perfectly.

The player has a 4-line display that gives you a lot of information, particularly with mp3.Battery life is excellent and the display shows you when the batteries are getting weak.

A lot of people complain about the cheap headphones that tyically come with portable players. I personally found the Samsung's headphones (they're the clip-over-the-ears type) to be pretty good.

The player handles my homemade CD-R disks and the commercial CDs flawlessly. It did not work well with my CD-RW disks. I suspect that the problem lies with my old H-P CD-RW drive rather than the Samsung player, since I've had other problems with the drive.

One feature I really like is the "hold" switch. Turn it on and none of the other buttons on the player will work. This prevents accidentally pressing a button (such as the "off" button!) while I'm out walking and it's bouncing around a bit in the carrying case.

In summary, I'm very pleased with this player. For the price I paid, it was a great deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!
Fully satisfied. Outstanding sound quality. Addition of FM would have been better. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Panasonic's SL-SV550 makes it easy to enjoy music with the freedom that comes from MP3 CD playback, extended battery life, a built-in FM/AM radio, and high-powered anti-skip technology. The onboard digital synthesizer tuner stores 30 stations in memory (20 FM and 10 AM) and assures that stations stay put once they're selected. Panasonic's exclusive No-Skip technology helps prevent interruptions from jostling during active use. No Skip's unique construction uses rubber brushings to absorb shock, while an anti-skip mechanism and an anti-skip digital servo further prevent read errors; a 48-second memory reserve provides added back up.

Now, battery changes will be fewer and farther between thanks to Panasonic's PowerLast high-efficiency power system, which combines an efficient motor with low-load circuitry for playback time of up to 35 hours on two AA batteries (during MP3 playback). CD playback abilities include 24-track random-access programming; repeat and resume (which picks up where the unit left off when last stopped); and skip/search, and memory/recall. A hold switch prevents accidental starting, stopping, or track skipping during use or transport. The unit boasts a thin design with operation keys and LCD laid out logically on its top cover. ... Features

  • Thin, round-form design for optimal portability with round LCD on player lid
  • Plays standard CD, audio CD-R, audio CD-RW, and MP3 CD (does not read ID3 tags)

  • Built-in digital synthesizer tuner offers 20 FM and 10 AM station presets
  • Up to 35 hours of MP3 playback from 2 AA batteries (not included)

4-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic SL-SV550 broken latch
I fixed the latch with a bent paper clip.

I was walking down 9th Ave., on my way to buy a portable CD player, and a guy was selling used stuff on a table. He had a used Panasonic SL-SV550, but the latch was broken and he held it closed with adhesive tape. After some haggling I bought it. When I got home and examined the latch, I decided that I could replace it by cutting and bending wire from a paper clip.

The latch assembly is made with a hook that comes down from the top part of the clamshell, and when the latch is missing you can see how it operates. The missing latch originally fit into 2 rectangular holes and slid back and forth. Using needle-nosed pliers and wire cutters, I straightened out the paper clip and bent a projection into the latch to hold the hook. Then I made L-shaped bends on each end of the wire to hold it in to those 2 rectangular holes. So the wire had enough room to move back and forth, and catch or release the hook. The bent paper clip looks sort of like this:

-|_||_|-

(this may not come out well on some browsers, but there are 2 L-shaped bends on either end to hold it into the rectangular holes, and a U-shaped or ^-shaped projection in the middle to engage the hook).

It took a couple of tries to bent it to fit, but it worked pretty well. I move my new latch back and forth with my thumbnail. Maybe it will break some day but I can always make a new one.

When you cut the paper clip with the wire cutters, be sure to wear glasses because the end can fly off and there's a small chance it will hit you in the eye. Superficial eye injuries actually heal surprisingly well (as I found out after a mishap in the chemistry lab) but it's less trouble to wear glasses than to go to the emergency room.

You have to be (or want to be) a little bit of a geek to do this. Geeks use bent paper clips to fix their glasses when the screw falls out and the temple comes off, so if you see somebody whose glasses are held together by a paper clip, you know he's a geek. So when something breaks, think paper clips. Being a geek is empowering, since you can fix things when they break, and it's fun to take stuff apart. OTOH, you can also break things (and sometimes things explode -- be careful in the chemistry lab), so maybe it evens out.

At any rate, I'm ahead on the CD player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Breaks way too easily!
I got one from Target, and it broke after a few weeks. My sister later got the same one, and hers did the same.

The latch to open the cover broke both times, so the cover stayed open unless we held it down or used scotch tape. Mine made clacking noises when I tried to play CDs, because something was wrong with the moving laser. Hers doesnt even play CDs anymore.. only the radio works.

To be honest, we dont take the best care of our electronics. But we've always been able to use our old portable cd players after accidentally dropping them on all sorts of surfaces. I think my Panasonic sl-sv550 broke after dropping it once from a height of 3 feet onto carpet. My sister said she dropped hers too. This player falls way below the minimum level of durability required by portable devices.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD Mp3 player w/Radio under $60
The goods about this player: Good priced. Play Audio CD in original disc, or CD-RW / CDR disc. Play MP3 files disc.
It allows users to listen to AM/FM radio and preset them.
LONG Long battery life, much better than sony or RCA models.
The unit was made in Japan. I suppose factories from Japan have higher quality control in general.
Conclusion: Very good player under $60.
Must buy for teenagers or college students.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best CD Player on the market for the price
I purchased this CD player several months ago and have had no complaints. It recieves the radio signal clear and strong.I shake it in my hand it won't skip a beat when playing a CD.I even dropped it on the floor several times and it still plays. The last time I dropped it on the floor the parts that keep it closed broke off.I have to keep it closed with tape. But guess what, it still plays like a dream.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine Panasonic unit, but not perfect.
The SL-SV550 has been replaced by the SL-SV570, now featuring Panasonic's 'D.Sound' for enriched clarity, as well as mp3 remastering.

Pros: mp3 capability, excellent FM tuner, good S-XBS, 30 station presets.Great sound overall.

Cons: doesn't read ID3 tags, subpar headphones, no line level out (like Sony).

Some headphones that work very well with this unit are Koss's KSC55 or "The Plug", also by Koss. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great and affordable player
If this company marketed their player more aggressively this would be a best seller!I did a lot of research and this player came out on top as far as customer ratings, features, price. This is easily the best player available at this price - excellent sound, easy to use and surprisingly long battery life (single AAA battery lasts at least as long as advertised).I do wish I could get software that would make it work on my Mac though.Seriously - if you're looking for a nice player at a great price this is what you're looking for - other players may have larger ad budgets but that just makes them more expensive, not better.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT PURCHASE THE iAUDIO!!!
Don't be fooled by the bells & whistles, the iAudio is the worst MP3 on the market!!! I purchased the CW200 and after 3 months it became defective. Apparently they all have a manufacturing defect of a loose memory board and battery flap. Once the memory board falls out over the normal course of use, the device becomes inoperable and must be shipped back for repair. After returning the device once, it stalled again just 30 days later. The second time the repair dept hassled me for shipping costs and wanted another copy of the warranty info they had on file. Don't waste your time w/ this. The iPod, which I will be getting, is much better holding >1000 songs much better than the measley 70 songs the terrible CW200 holds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frickin Amazing!
I've had this player for about six months, and it is the best piece of electronics I've ever had. it's never had a single problem. I recommend this product to everyone I know. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Voice Recording Quality
I bought this primarily to record my thoughts while I was out and about and am very disappointed with the voice recording quality. It is hollow and sounds like I have a lisp (By the way, having an "s" in the word "lisp" seems to me like kicking those who struggle with this while they are down.)

Anyhow, I wasn't too disappointed with the audio playback quality, but that may be because my expectations had been significantly diminished by the time I evaluated that part of the player.

I would recommend that you save your money and look at something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Price, Nice Size Limited Formats
The price and size are great but it only plays Mp3s.If you use Napster or WMAs this unit will not play your files.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad rewiew
It breaks down every two-three months!
I change it to new 2 times, after that the shop where I bought decided to give me another company product.
VERY BAD!
The only thing I liked in it -its design...
Really small and comfortable but...
DOESN'T WORK!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD PRODUCTS - NO SUPPORT -DON'T PURCHASE BUSLINK PRODUCTS
I bought a Buslink Mp3 player in a Datavision Store in NY (Datavision is a big reseller, listed in Buslink page).
The unit sound volume is weak, but this is not the problem. After just 3 months of use the unit wont play mp3 anymore, the screen went crazy every time I start it, and then froze. I contacted Buslink to got a replacement but I got THE WORST SUPPORT, INDIFERENCE AND BAD ATTENTION from they, particulary from Ivan Smith, customer support. Walk away from Buslink. They cannot replace the unit without the invoice from Datavision, they do not honor your waste , confidence nor preference. Stay away from Buslink, a unit that lasted only 3 months and they wont replace. I REPEAT, THE WORST QUALITY AND SUPPORT I GOT IN TONS OF PURCHASES. DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM BUSLINK

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced...
got it for Christmas :)...

After going through the manual listened to some different styles mp3s... :

1. The earphones suck... can't use :(

2. The sound of Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 14 'Moonlight' - 1 Adagio Sostenuto was horrible :( Besides the low quality, there was some additinal background noise... So it sucked...

3. Loud rock is ok kinda :(

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice system, yet too many minor flaws

I honestly think this system looks visually better then the iPod. As a matter of fact, this system uses a 2 color LCD screen. It is exactly like a game gear system screen or a small portable hand held TV screen except the actual Philip's hardware on this unit only permits 2 colors. However the iPod is only a regular Dot Matrix screen with the regular green back light screen (kinda like your watch.)
With that aside what irritates me the most is the freakin' software provided. You can't drag and drop files on to you unit. You have to use this slow program provided and ONLY this program. Perhaps most of your mp3 selection you cant use because philips created a thing that prevents you from downloading certain audio files that have been encrypted on the unit (something to do with Digital Rights Managament). Of course, this should not be much of Philip's concern if they want to stay in the audio business unless hassled by the government.
Also one would think if you have a 20gig HD on your jukebox with a nice quality screen, that I'm sure they could reserve a couple MB for games and programs. Think about it, perhaps a calculator, calender, about 2 dozen games (ya know, tetris, solitaire, frogger)and perhaps a screen saver - several of them - for viewing pleasure while sitting on that chair of yours. OK, now I'm just pushing it, since a lot of companies leave out just the simple essentials - the simple CHEAP essentials - that could give them better leverages over the competition.
Any who, the unit's own software is uncomfortably slow. It was a cool design to add animated menus and so forth, but if they move 2 frames per second, then what is the use. The fast forward doesn't fast forward really, it merely seems to distort the audio while it is moving 1/2 a second faster. But perhaps I'm picky, but, It would have been nice to separate the Play/Pause button from the Power button. How do you pause without powering off, or at least stop taking off certain needed buttons for aesthetic reasons.
But other then that, this is a fine piece of machinery.
O yeah, why do they always package the rather expensive audio players with cheap crappy headphones?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent gadget, great looks, smooth display
I have to admit, the DMM software it came with is clumsy and slow, but it never froze on me. I am also using the Sveta Portable software which you can dowload from here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t= 4628

This program allows you to do drag and drop in both directions and organize the player's playlists and songs.

The sound is great, (remember, junk in - junk out, so bad rips will sound bad as in any other player), it's small, light, great looking and sooo easy to use. I am impressed and really surprised about what other people wrote here.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible software ruins a great player
Hmmm... beautiful player, very Philips... but one big problem.

Misguided digital rights managment means you can only play tracks uploaded through the supplied DMM software. It is appalling. Slow, prone to glitches and clumsy, the software makes uploading files tiresome and time consuming. You wait, you hope and sometimes it works. To add insult to injury, the software stops you freely moving tracks from your player to another computer and fiddles with track orders if you don't have ID tagging; a big problem with audio books which I have yet to resolve. Downloading firmware/PC software updates is not very intuitive and can improve the function or crash the system. One particular download locked the player and corrupted the music files on the PC. Very exciting and an opportunity to try out my extensive vocablary of swearwords.

The player itself is a quality product once the music is downloaded. Occasional lock-ups can be cured with a soft reset and the rest of the time it is a joy. I particularly like the in-line recording straight to mp3 and the sleep timer. Output volume is too low, but after market earphones help this and the sound quality.
Overall perhaps one star is a bit harsh. But the painful truth is that Philips have created a beautiful ipod competitor with more features and real quality of construction ... and then flushed it all down the toilet with misguided DRM and amateurish software. Oh yes, don't bother asking Philips for help either. After my aforementioned software disaster they didn't reply to my detailed questions by email; except to send me later a customer service questionnaire asking about the quality of their reply. Oops.

2-0 out of 5 stars BAD
I Purchased this in order to listen to my music....(of course its an mp3 player) the sound quality was bad u didnt have enough options there was no stop button (to my knowledge) and it was a pain. heres the really bad part. Normaly u can rip music from cd's and send them to well mp3 player with this you cant i called philips and asked them for help and they did they simply said with this philips model you have to download seprate software.....i was like what?! i spend good money on this product and i want the same i shouldnt have to download seprate software for this to do what i want.i personaly had a 20gb model but itsprobally as bad as this model here anyways i wouldnt recommend this mp3 jukebox to anyone .

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time and money

1-0 out of 5 stars ALERT - the website that this hardware needs is DEAD
HI - I wrote a review of this earlier this year - and I am still impressed by the fact you can send computer audio or any audio throughout your house...However, it looks like as of about May 1, 2004 the website that the hardware works with is no longer active. When you are deciding whether you want this, factor that into your decision. In my case, it's still good, but I can no longer control the channels.I have to set up some audio playing on the PC first and I can't change channels. Buyer beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars 2004 review - Great if you can get it for $40 or less!
Introduction:
I first bought a RCA pair of wireless speakers over ebay for listening to internet radio in my bedroom - that was okay, but lacked a headphone option and control of the channels I listen too -- and I was forced to hang out near the bulky speakers.

Now, seeing the Acer/SonicBox thing for $40, I bought it -WORD OF CAUTION: don't get the KO version unless you don't need wireless. As long as you get the little blue pager thingee, you will be able to broadcast from the square transmitter thing 'up to 100 feet'.For me wireless was the whole purpose.

Summary:
It works pretty well even several rooms away on a different floor. In 2004 though, it looks like the manufacturer is out of business or not supporting the product and about a third of the preprogrammed stations don't seem to work for me.However, I love this product! Now I can listen to channels fro around the world from VOA to VOIran (!)

Interesting Points I found:
* The RCA 900 mhz speaker/transmitters I already owned seem to work with the Sonicbox - though not in stereo.I am trying to figure out how do something neat with this.
* Pray your IRhythm works - mine worked well.I'm not sure how you'd get service or help if it doesn't work. This does seem to be the best remote internet listening choice.
* I'm still trying to figure out how to get extra stations added. I have been able to add most mediaplayer format streaming stations, but haven't had any luck with ReadAudio stations added to 'your personal Z band'.I'm not sure how to get MP3s to work.
* My PC is XP Home and seems to work fine with the tool. There doesn't seem to be much help for hacking or using this product on the web.I'm using these customer reviews as my primary help source! (Thanks Amazon for having the reviews in the first place!)
* This product is actually a pretty cheap way to make yourself a pair of wireless headphones - just plug your good headphones into the pager thingee and an audio source into the transmitter input and you've got decent stereo - though I would not agree with other reviewers that the sound is better than a good FM tuner.
* I have a CABLE MODEM (read: Broadband Connection) which makes the IRhythm a great thing to have.I don't know if I would think the product was so good if I didn't have a fast constant connection to the internet.

It would be great if someone with a dial up modem could tell us all if the product is still any good -- for example, wouldn't it be cool if when you turn on the unit it was smart enough to dial up your internet provider and get you on line, even though you are in another room lying on your bed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super gadget, easy to use, multiple uses!
The Acer iRhythm 900MHz Wireless Remote Tuner works as advertised.
Easy installation (get the software updates online), very good sound quality, a very clever device that is handsomely designed and well constructed.

In addition to being able to access a (seeming) zillion internet radio stations, the remote device can also wirelessly "broadcast" your music playlists (or internet radio) from your PC to your home sound system or headphones (using the included small remote receiver).

It is recommended that you also install the latest FREE versions of Windows Media Player and Real One Player.Somehow these players interface with the iRhythm Tuner and expand its capabilities.

A cautionary note:The iRhythm software may tell you, incorrectly, that you have obsolete versions of Windows Media and Real One Players. This slight error does not affect the functionality of the unit and can be ignored.

The unit is optimized for Broadband/DSL connections but will operate with a good 56K modem connection. If you can stream music using Windows Media or Real One Players then the device will work on your system.

Summary, it is a fun and highly practical device that enables you to squeeze more audio entertainment from the internet and from your PC.

2-0 out of 5 stars Software Issues / No Support
I like transmitting audio from my machine to my home stereo. My wife really likes it a lot - Austin radio is terrible - so getting a few thousand more stations is great. I bought the remote tuner though and the software always crashes. I wrote support and got no answer. I've also checked the web -- nothing. Also weekends are bad because many people are using their cordless phones in our building and so we get the loud "BBRRRRPPPP!" every couple of minutes when someone uses their phone or gets a call.

4-0 out of 5 stars We love it
This is great for listening to Internet Radio over your regular stereo. It sets up in minutes. The only problem is that it get noisy (Rarely though)because it works like a cordless phone.Well worth every penny! ... Read more
