1-0 out of 5 stars Who knows how to solve the C:13:01 error ?
I bought the Sony 128 MB Memory Stick (MSH-128) a few months ago, but I only used it once. When I was in my 20th picture, an error appeared in the screen of my Sony P100 camera:

Error C:13:01, Memory Stick failed

First, I went to Sony Service Center, but they didn't know what was happening. Then, I went to differents Sony Stores, but the only answer they gave me was that my Memory Stick is failed, that it's impossible to fix or format it and, the worst, there is no way to save the pictures !!!!

Finally, I tried to solved it by myself, and I "google" the C:13:01 error. If you do it, you will find hundreds of people with the same problem, looking for a solution.

That's why I don't recommend this product. If all of us have the same problem, you can be the next.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really is Plug n' Play!
I am a definite fan of this drive.I have had it for several months without a single issue. It is super easy to use--very intuitive.I also appreciate the speed and flexibility with the USB 2.0/Firewire combination.Get it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I backed up my computer
Last time my computer crashed, someone told me to get a drive like this. I just got it, and easily put my whole computer's information on this drive. So next time I get a big problem in my computer, I can just redo it from this external hard drive. And it was easy to do too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything should be this easy
I recently purchased this hard drive and I have to say I'm impressed. I'm no "tecchie" but I can at least plug in a USB cord--and that's all I had to do! No long manual to read, no complicated setup process, just plug it in and start using it. Hope this helps someone...

2-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, but not reliable
I used to like my Viking 512MB CF card a lot.I had such a card for more than a year.In that period, I used it in my camera. It's filled up for several times. Also occationally I use a card reader (SimpleTech) to write/read that card, to transfer some big files between computers. It's all fine, and suddenly one day, when the card was half full, and after a card reader reading, I got "CF card error" on my camera.Fortunately, after I delete a few pictures, I could move on.I gave the card toother people, so I don't know how it's doing now.

After that, I purchased another Viking 512MB, half year ago.I used it to transfer files for a few times, and have never filled it up using my camera yet.Now I am getting consistent "CF card error" message on my camera, even after re-format for several times, while I don't have that problem if I use another card.

One theory I heard was that a card reader may damage a card.I can not verify though.Anyway, I will have to buy another card now, and it won't be viking for this time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy. Cheating Company, no customer service.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The lady who alledged to be the customer service supervisor said:"You got it cheaper than other brands, what else do you expect?" "Viking cheats. So what?"

1-0 out of 5 stars DON"T BUY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE
There are better cards and the customer service sucks with viking. So get something anything else!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good product.
I bought this card for a vacation and it's been great.I can get loads of pictures without having to stop and dump them onto my laptop, or without having to bother with other cards.I've had zero issues with the card not working properly - it's been smooth sailing.I'm very pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Viking CF512M 512 MB CompactFlash Card
I used this on a Canon S1 IS and it performed flawlessly. Even the video mode at Super Fine 640 x 480 recording didn't skip a beat. I suspect most people don't format the Compact Flash to their camera, DO IT and you shouldn't have any difficulty. As fast a compact flash as I need. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning: Does not work with Olympus as Advertised
The description listed specifically says "Embedded Panorama feature for digital cameras with panoramic functionality."This is wrong. This card does not support Olympus camera panoramic features.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother ordering here.Item sent not as advertised-
Pictured is the Olympus-branded xD memory card. Right? Same is also pictured on the printed SanDisk insert. But, what you'll actually get is the Fuji-branded xD memory card which is cheaper because it is specifically NOT panoramic capable.

Item appears to have been switched by either Amazon or it's source and plastic re-sealed bu glue or heat.

Someone trying to "stick" Amazon with a swap?Possible.I sent a note to Customer Service to alert them of the error. They said "sorry" from India and would correct and resend. Guess what....I got another pack with the same erroneous Fuji memory card.

In my book, this is called "bait and switch" and I believe it's illegal in most States.Do I dare let Amazon "fix" this error again? What do you think?

1-0 out of 5 stars xD Picture Cards - EL STINKO
The mfgr's promo text says it's fast, but anyone who's ever done even an informal test knows it's dog-slow. In fact, xD is THE slowest-reading/writing media still developed. It's also one of the (if not THE) most expensive per MB, along with Sony's "Memory Stick" (now branching out into even more costly "Pro", "Secure" and "Select" subformats, hopefully helping to wake Sony-worshipers up (Sony is no longer king, folks; the 90's are LONG over. Keep an eye on Samsung - but that's another review - for the best these days).

xD's one benefit: It's small; almost TOO small, and really easy to lose, only coming in black. Fuji and Olympus are the ones to blame, clearly hoping to retain unwitting users who end up forced into xD's incompatibility and expense with one of both mfgrs' wide selection of xD-only digicams. Olympus briefly made cameras with both xD and SmartMedia compatibility, hoping the 128MB limit of SM would funnel users toward xD. Most of those users, to Olympus' dismay, chose five or six SmartMedia cards because they were cheap, and because they could at least be read by most (if not all) media readers, unlike xD, which even now very few readers bother to support.

Oddly enough, Secure Digital (SD) is almost as small, and is one of the FASTEST reading and writing formats in active development. Lots of cameras, MP3 players and other media devices use SD. What uses xD Picture Cards? Cameras. Fuji and Olympus cameras, to be exact. Nothing else of any real popularity. It's unfortunate, but there are a lot of consumer digicam owners who have been humped into a format that has no good reason to exist.

Advice: If you bought a digicam without extensive knowledge of formats as many have done, watch and wait for deep rebates before buying your xD card(s) and be sure to get an xD card branded by the same mfgr as your camera, as (at least with Olympus) any other manufacturer's xD card (even Fuji) won't allow the 'Panoramic' mode to be used. Believe it or not, the camera actually checks the card for the Olympus header information and makes 'Panoramic' mode unavailable if it's not there. Is there any legitimate reason for this? No. None whatsoever. If panoramic photos aren't important to you, at least you've got a few other choices. If underhanded mfgr tactics are unacceptable to you, remember this when you're shopping for your next digicam.

For that matter, when you're shopping for your next digicam, look for fast and cheap media support from mfgrs that attract customers with innovation, compatibility and performance instead of the ones who rope new users and then attempt to chain them up in the backyard using format-inertia. As an illustration of lack of faith in their own format, even Olympus and Fuji know better than to cripple their top-shelf Prosumer/SLR digicams with the all-around speed and price loser that is xD; Both companies' best cameras ALL use CompactFlash, the oldest, cheapest-per-MB, highest-capacity and most popular format. For best speed, compatibility and prices, make your next camera one that uses CompactFlash or SD (Secure Digital) cards. If you enjoy your xD camera (as I once did), take solace knowing that rebates are offered quite regularly. Watch out for them and take advantage!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rate the product, not the service or price!
The xD format is an excellent option for digital camera storage. Why? Speed/Size/Storage Capacity

The xD-Picture Card has one of the fastest read/write speeds on the market. Higher speeds can greatly enhance the user's experience with a product. For example, a photographer can take new pictures or view existing images more quickly with the xD-Picture Card media than with other, slower media formats.

The xD-Picture Card was designed to use minimal power. Users will benefit from the convenience and savings of longer battery life on a single charge.

Small size (about the size of a penny), means smaller devices with lots of storage (512MB available now and plans to go to 8GB!)

I like this format (I've used CF and SmartMedia) and appreciate new technology.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shipped wrong product & didn't refund shiping

Bought two of these piece of crap. Filled them up with pictures on special trip with my wife; came back home only tofind out that the disks had a memory stick error. Could not retrieve any of my precious pictures. Get SONY forget LEXAR!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy - I second that!
I recently purchased a 256 Lexar stick at a Target store and after my first time filling it up with pictures I got the "Format Error" message just as the other reviewer explained.I was able to eventually download most of my photos, but did loose a few.Luckily, Target took the stick back and gave me a refund. Now, one of the 128 Lexar sticks I bought last year gave me a "Format Error" after taking a photo.Luckily, I was able to quickly delete the picture and it seems to be working okay now.I am not confident in the durability of this stick so I will NEVER buy Lexar sticks again. When you are recording memories, just spend the extra money on SONY.It's worth it!I have two Sony sticks (one two years old and one a year old.) I have NO problems with these.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy
After using this memory stick in my SONY DSC-V1 for a few months, it just stopped working. I took pictures with it and then transferred them into my SONY VAIO. The memory stick was sitting in my computer's slot for a few days, and when I put it in my camera to take pictures, my camera lcd screen blinked "format error." I tried formatting it with my computer, but my computer told me the disc was write protected, which it wasn't. It would not format in my camera either. I was only able to use one half of the stick. A few pictures later, both halves of the stick were not working. My camera shows each side as having a "format error," or a "system error."

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots o' pictures for the ol' camera
The first thing you need to know is that a Memory Stick Pro stick won't work in a device designed for just the regular Memory Sticks. So you can stop drooling over the 1GB Pro sticks now.

That leaves regular Memory Sticks, which must have some memory-addressing issue that only allows 128 MB to be available at any one time. So, to have a larger Memory Stick, you need one with a switch so that you can switch between the two memory chips which each can be no larger that 128 MB.That's what this stick has.Of course, you have to take the stick out of the camera to flip the switch. And the switch is small, but it is surprisingly easy to operate with a fingernail.

Right now, I'm using it with a 2 megapixel camera, so I get over 100 shots per chip, or over 200 shots on the stick. For a photo geek like me, that's great.I've been very satisfied with this Memory Stick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value, good functionality
As correctly described in another review, this is 2x128M (together 256Mb) memory stick. You have a little jumper on the back to switch between the banks.

For reference, there is no such thing as 256 Mb memory stick, that's a limitation of memory stick technology. To overcome this limitation, Sony came up with the Memory Stick Pro standard, which can be 256 Mb, 512 Mb, and even 1Gb+, but Memory Stick Pro is not compatible with many older devices.

So if you camera takes Memory Stick, this is an absolutely best value you can find. I have 256 Mb memory stick from Lexar and very happy about it -- actually I came here to buy another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper alternative to Sony.
After using regular SanDisk Memory Stick Pro, I indeed noticed read/write speed improvement: about twice faster, I would say. SanDisk uses same Sony memory chips as Sony does, they just package them on their own factory, so theoretically you are getting same product with different labels. So why pay extra for "brand", if you can get same product with lifetime warranty anyway?
If you are considering this card for your digital camera, do not set your expectations too high: though you are gonna notice that Ultra-II' write speed doubled over regular cards, the real bottleneck is your camera's shutter lag and size of the camera's internal buffer (in burst mode). In auto-focus mode, the lag on my Sony DSC-717 is still over a second - I'd say about 20% improvement. If you want to shoot faster, learn to use manual focus. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product (but a little expensive at the moment)
I really like this product, but for the price (unless you really need a LOT of storage space) the 256MB version is really MUCH MUCH CHEAPER and hits a great price point.Otherwise, it is a great product.

If you think about it, there really are only 4 ways to exchange technology between computers (for the average person).

You could use a floppy drive -but they are not standard anymore on next generation computers, and they only hold 1 megabyte of infomation -hardly enough to handle more than a low resolution picture or two.

Or, you could use a Zip drive. But here's the problem. You now have 100, 250, and 750 megabyte drives, and though you can read any of the older zip disks with a newer drive, you CANNOT WRITE ON THEM (and the reading process is REALLY slow). I made this mistake, and I am stuck with a 750 Megabyte drive that no one else has, so I can't do much more than backup my own data.

Or, you can burn information to a CD-rom and move it that way. Yes, you can do this, IF you have a burner and a blank cd on the computer you need data from, but that very likely may not be an answer either for casual transfers.

And finally, what I had been using most of the time, email. You can realistically email up to 3-5 MB of pictures or files -but really only if you have broadband.Pretty easy to use, and many people have it, but not a solution for photos or large files.

This is where the jumpdrive comes in -and I think it is the perfect replacement. It is the size of your little finger and (this version) holds 512MB! Best of all, the price is coming down every month.(If you're still a little price-shy, wait 6 months and it'll drop in half -or, consider purchasing the 256MB or the 128MB model which are even better values for what you get.The 512 is more valuable for MP3/photo transfers.)

Haven't used one before? You pull of the cap and plug the drive directly into your comuter's USB port. (You don't need any software or drivers to preload -you just plug it in to any computer.) When it is plugged in the computer automatically recognizes it as a new drive right on your desktop. I.e. Go to your "My Computer" section and it now shows up as "Lexar Media (H:)" You then treat it like you would any other drive -you can save files to it, or you can just drag and drop files to it. Once the light stops flashing just pull it out, cap it, and go.

Here's another cool thing about the Lexar version of this drive. There is a little green light on the memory stick that lights up and blinks when it is first plugging in, and also when it is loading data. This will prevent you from removing the stick before the data is loaded -which is usually something that happens very quick!

I am very happy with this portable drive. It is something that is effortless to use, and is small enough that it can basically hang on your keychain so you have it wherever you need it. (In fact, there is actually a hook on the top of the drive so you can clip or hook it to whatever you want.)

The only thing to keep in mind is that it is a little small, and can get misplaced easily. If you are not going to carry it with you (with your keys), I'd recommend putting it somewhere that you are not going to forget, or tying a bulky keychain to it so it can't get lost.

One more thing, I recently got rid of my old computer -and I mean my VERY old computer.I needed to move all my files.Unfortunately, I found that my Zip Drive on the computer no longer worked, and only one USB port even functioned any more.In came the jump drive to save the day.I spent the next 30 minutes moving over all my files to my new computer.Floppy would have worked for Word files, but this Jump Drive was a dream for all my MP3s that I'd burned and the pictures that I'd taken.

I got a jumpdrive for my parents, and they've actually started to use it.Amazing -that alone makes it worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks!
I would just like to say thanks to all the great people who take time to write such excellent reviews. I just bought this Lexar JumpDrive based on the reviews it got, and am completely bowled over by this tiny gadget that holds so much stuff and is so easy to use. Thanks, everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wrote a previous review...still great but some advice...
I wrote a rave review about this product on 8 Dec 03. I continue to rate this product 5 stars even though the last 6 weeks I had problems with it. I want to share what I discovered with whoever purchases this product....I am an experienced communciations engineer. I work in the field and right now I am in Asia - its always dirty where I work. Second, my JUMPDRIVE started giving me problems and I wrote 8 messages to Lexar support asking for help/advice..I got back 1 message which was a "canned" message and did not even reference my problem.Do not count on their support group for help. I tried everything to repair it (new USB drivers, new USB hardware ports, different computers, reformats...) but the problem was intermittent sometimes it would work and sometimes not. The FINAL day before I was going to end its life with a hammer I discovered the problem.I decided to open it up and look for bad solder joints...but before I did so and as I was looking where to crack it open I realized that the "write protect switch" (which is a very small opening)had collected some dust in/on it. I moved the switch back and forth with a few times with a paper clip to clean the contacts and BINGO! It works perfect again. I have since put a single wrap of black electrical tape over the write protect switch to keep out dirt/dust. I recommend doing this depending on your environment... Nevertheless, it is a great product but very, very bad support for it....probably because it is so good.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Simplest Gadget I've Ever Owned
I saw someone use one of these and bought one on Amazon the same day.Now everyone that sees mine runs out to buy one!Imagine carrying something on a key change that stores the equivalent of 350+ floppy disks!I have used this to transfer all of my files to a new laptop and to copy them over to my home PC.Our color printer blew up this week, so with a deadline approaching, I put several large files on this JumpDrive and took them to a local print shop.I also had a presentation to give with several other presenters.Rather than swap out laptops during breaks and rewire them to the LCD Projector, we just stuck our oversized Powerpoint presentations on JumpDrives and plugged them into the same computer. You just stick it into the USB port of any computer and you're in business! Can you tell I love this thing?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Encrypt your files in case you lose your JumpDrive
I love this JumpDrive! It's a cinch to use and the transfer speed is excellent, once you format it for NTFS as mentioned by another reviewer.

I also used PGP to encyrpt my files in case the drive should fall into the wrong hands. You can get PGP Personal Desktop at, or there are a number of other encryption programs available.I was worried about a complete stranger getting access to my financial info, but after hours of fiddling I couldn't get the Windows XP Professional encryption system to work (I copied my private key to another computer but it still wouldn't decrypt), so I went to a third-party program.

I keep all of my files, personal and business, including my Outlook personal folders (the outlook.pst file) on this drive.I have configured Outlook on all of my computers to access the outlook.pst file on the JumpDrive directly, to avoid having to copy the file back and forth, and it works seamlessly and quickly.

I work on four computers regularly so for me this solution is much better than using a laptop (I've had bad experiences with laptops!).

I highly recommend this device for yourself or as a gift. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this
This won't read my POI 256mb or PNY 512 mb cards. Spent forever online with Lexar who suggested I try a Lexar card. I don't want to go out and buy another card just to try it and when especially its supposed to work with all cards. He then suggested I contact the card manufacturers despite the fact that the cards work just fine in my Coolpix 8700. It will be on its way back to Amazon tomorrow. Wasted enough time already and really ticked off.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does what a reader should do, though the design is wacked
All in all this Lexar card reader does exactly what it's supposed to do read from almost any Digital memory card on the planet. So if you're looking for a quick multiformat card reader. This could be a good choice.

A few things to keep in mind though: the first is the design. The door opens by being pulled down, that wouldn't be bad, but it's a curved piece of plastic so the card reader is held off the table by the cover, take a look at the pictures, and you'll see what I mean. Also, the USB cable attaches to the side and not the back.So if you're looking for a card reader to sit on a table next to your computer. All neat and tidy you my will look elsewhere.I think this was more designed for on the go.Throw in a backpack etc.

Those were a few things I wanted to mention.
Have some fun and get it done

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite card reader
Wow! I love this card reader!

I have used it extensively for over 15 months now and have had no problems.I have used it with SanDisk CF cards (x3), SimpleTech CF cards (x2), a Viking CF card, Fuji xD cards (x2), and a Kingston SD card.It has been completely successful with all of these.

It works very fast for both downloading and uploading to all of my cards.I have used it primarily for digital photos, but have also transferred hundreds of megabytes of files through this reader.I primarily use it with a Dell Inspiron 600M notebook running Windows XP Pro.I also carry the reader with me frequently to transfer files to/from other computers.

I have successfully used it with Windows 2000 on multiple computers, and occasionally on Windows 98, when necessary. It has never let me down on any of these machines.

It is sleek - the appearance is great. The USB cable unplugs from the 'box' - this facilitates packing the reader into small pockets in a computer carrying case.I have been very happy with this card reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reader, great support
I had Rev A of this reader (purchased about a year ago). While it worked great with my Transcend 256MB card, it didn't work well with SanDisk cards (both Ultra II and the new standard cards). While I could copy files off the SanDisk cards, I was unable to write TO them using the Reader.

I called up Support, and they took care of me.They didn't ask me where I purchased, when I purchased, etc. They had me ship them my Rev A, and they sent out, for free, a Rev D.All I can say is: Wow.Reading the cards with Rev D is so much faster than the Rev A (twice as fast). And writing to them works perfectly.

Please, call up Lexar support.Tell them the reader doesn't work with SanDisk cards. They should take care of it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with new CF cards
I have the RW-018 Rev.B model. I even upgraded the firmware from the website. However, it will not work with my two Sandisk Ultra II 512mb cards! This reader takes many minutes to write large multimegabyte files, and when reading back the file it is corrupted! Many others with the same problem have reported this problem, and so far there is no fix but to get another brand USB2 card reader. Too bad. I am very disappointed.

(The reader works fine with my 25x Transcend 512mb card, which was made almost 2 years ago.) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Only 1 problem
I've had one of these for about 6 months now.I rip my music down to 24MHz WMA files, so I can get about 8 hours of music on 256M.This has been great for traveling. The 1 problem I have is the way the joystick is also the on/off button, the jumpdrive will often turn on in my pocket or backpack. It does have a powersave mode, but I still wear batteries down due to it turning on all the time.
I did need to buy new headphones as the ones that came with it didn't fit my ears well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some Problems - Backgound Noise - Playback Order
I just purchased one and have two problems with it. First, there is a high pitch noise that begins when you press play. It's noticeable between tracks and during silent periods of a track. I listen to a lot of classical as well as rock. If all you listen to is rock or other music that doesn't have silent pauses or quiet passages this won't be much of an issue.

More troublesome is the fact that you cannot specify the order tracks will be played. For some reason it always puts a track or two out of order. Even if I drag and drop them one at a time. Again, if it's not a big issue for you, then this product will do nicely.

On the plus side - sound quality is very good with the Koss earplugs I bought. At 59.99 it's pretty cheapfor 256 Meg.
In surfing the web I've found other reviewers with the same problems. Would appreciate it if anyone else out there would let me (us) know if they also have had these problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars 256 Jumpdrive Junk
I purchased 3 of these and they all experience the same problem. They will play one song and quit - never cycling to the next song.I've tried 3 ways to upload songs, including no directories -doesn't matter. My 3 are being returned to Lexar proper, I must have gotten a bad batch.Once one song stops playing, the unit stays on until you reset the battery to turn it off.Very frustrating, I had pretty high hopes and the price was great!Guess you get what you pay for - beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use!
The best part of this compact mp3 player is its ease of use. I plug it into a USB port of my Mac and drag mp3 files (or any data files) into the device. That's all. I can put about 70 of 128kbps mp3 files in this 256mb player. I'm satisfied with the sound quality I get from the device. The included earbud headphones are not too bad, although I use Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones with it.I got my JumpDrive Music 256mb at $60.00 from J & R Music and Computer World. If you have no need for such features available on more expensive mp3 players as FM radio and voice recording, the Lexar JumpDrive Music 256mb mp3 player is a fantastic deal and excellent choice. Here is my rundown of Pros and Cons:
Ease of use (plug and drag)
Price (available at $60 from J & M Music and Computer World as of this writing)
    Compact and light
Easy reading on the LCD display
Good sound quality (5 Equalizer settings-normal, classical, jazz, rock, and boom)
Uses a regular single AAA battery
Ugly (but my girlfriend thinks it's "so cute." Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. . . .)
No FM Radio or voice recording
No playlist capability ("Shuffle" to mix the order of songs.)
Joystick--simple but a bit awkward to use
No armband nor belt clip (only lanyard)

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice gadget, good sound but feels a little cheap.
I have used this device and it is very friendly to work with, delivers good sound but I recommend you use another brand of headphones, the ones provided are not so good quality. works just like a usb storage device and requieres no drivers. for the price I don't think you can get a better deal. (I have compared it with the Creative Labs Muvo and this one sounds better although is a little bit bigger). At first I was a little disappointed because of the case material that looks cheapy but once I started using it I begun to like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great combination of USB memory key and SD card
For the price of a normal 256MB SD card, I purchased the Simpletech Bonzai 256MB, which now works also as an easy-to-use USB memory key. It comes with a "High-speed proX 256MB SimpleTech" SD memory card.

It works perfectly well. The 480 Mb/sec are -as usual- a little bit overstated, but overall the reading/writing speed is very good. The quality of the device seems good. It comes with an additional USB cable, which allows pluging even if the USB ports are vertical. The total size is not as big as it looks on the pictures. I find it small enough.

Overall it is a great product that offers the flexibility of a USB memory key for the price of the SD alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Executive summary: 1.44 floppies are just not cutting it. I work with clients and don't want to lug around a CD burner to move files from my laptop to/from their network. I also don't always want to lug my laptop home. Enter Simpletech's Bonzai USB mini drive. It is awesome. If you are looking for high capacity and expandable computer storage in a small, portable, USB-based, no install hassle package, buy the Bonzai USB mini-drive now.

    A few details . . .

Insert it into a USB port, and in about 5 seconds Windows 2000 and Windows XP (home and professional) pop up a message telling you about the removable disk that it automatically found. Automatically! No drivers are required for Windows 2000 and XP. This is very cool when you are visiting a client or friend and don't really want to install stuff on their PC. From there, you use the USB drive just like a hard drive (drag and drop, etc.)

Here are some factoids I wish the product description (or picture) would have told me:
    1) A 4 foot USB extension cable is included, which in my book eliminates any negative dealing with the fact that the USB ports on some computers are close together or very tight. (BTW I have a Compaq Presario with 2 USB's on the front and although it is tight the Bonzai works fine there without the extension, even with my mouse plugged in right beside it). Having to carrying a small cable is just not that big of deal folks.
    2) It is very small. 2 1/2" long including the USB plug. 1 1/4" wide. 1/2" deep.
    3) It is very light. About the weight of one Oreo Double Stuff cookie :)
    4) The USB plug has a cap.
    5) The case is heavy plastic.
    6) A blue lanyard (i.e big shoestring looking thing that goes around your neck like a Referee's whistle) is included. I like this a lot since it helps remind me to take it with me :)
    7) I have a 60MB zip file on my Bonzai right now which unzips faster than those on my hard drive. Did I mention the Bonzai is fast? And I'm only on USB 1.0.

    8) The whole thing seems solid and well made.

BTW, a guy I work with and I did some research. We both concluded that Bonzai is the answer to our goal of a slick way to quickly move files between computers, with zero install requirements (at least on Win2K and WinXP). He is very envious of me since he opted for the Sandisk Cruzer instead of the Bonzai (because his Best Buy didn't have the Bonzai). I picked Bonzai and was delighted to find that has it. The Cruzer is about 4-5 times bigger, and doesn't feel nearly as solid in my view.

I opted for the 128MB model instead of the 256MB or 512MB models because at the time the cost was still pretty high. Things look much better these days since the 256 mb version costs less than what I paid for the 128mb version. If I was buying again, I'd go with at least the 256MB version, simply because I never seem to regret having too much space :) But the 128mb (equal to 88 diskettes) has been enough for me except for one time (and I really didn't expect the Bonzai to handle that 50 GIGAbyte backup file). The good news is that if I want to expand, all I have to do is buy a new memory card and snap it in place. In 20 seconds my 128mb drive becomes a 256mb or 512mb, or whatever capacity is available at the time.

Bottom line: I've had mine for over a year now with ZERO PROBLEMS. Highly recommended! ... Read more

Lexar Media's high-speed digital film helps your camera capture images faster, so you spend more time taking pictures and less time waiting on your camera. Lexar's CompactFlash cards are individually speed rated so you know the minimum capability of the card. Lexar uses the same rating system used by the CD-ROM industry, where a data transfer rate of 1x equals 150 kilobytes per second (KBps). The higher the speed rating, the faster your camera will be able to write images to the memory card.

For professional shooters who need immediate confirmation they've captured the shot or who want to identify accurate exposure levels or bracketing range, Lexar's patented 12X speed (1.8 MBps) transfer rate makes the card ideal for fast-paced applications such as photojournalism, sports, and fashion. And Lexar's solid-state design provides reliability in harsh shooting environments, mandated by professionals throughout the world.

The Digital Film Compliance seal assures you that your Lexar Media digital film is 100 percent compatible with your CompactFlash digital camera. It can also be used in all other digital devices that support the CompactFlash format, such as PDAs, video recorders, and MP3 players. All Lexar Media CompactFlash cards meet the CompactFlash Association's specifications and are marked with the CF+ symbol. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great flash card, great company!
Not only is this a great flash card, the company is great to deal with. On our recent vacation, I accidently deleted all our pictures. I thought they were lost! A friend suggested we try to find someone to try and recover the lost pictures. After several inquires I was directed to send the disk back to the manufacturer with a description of what happened. I called a service rep at Lexar and he said if I sent it to them they would give it a try. To my surprise, they were able to recover the lost pictures and returned my flashcard at no cost. Thanks again to Lexar, you've earned a loyal customer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Memory Card!
I have 4 Canon cameras that use Compact Flash. I decided that I wanted to have a backup card for each camera and I bought 4 of these particular cards for that purpose. CF cards are resonably priced nowadays. This particular card (times 4) has worked very well for me so far and I have not had a single issue regarding it. Based on that I 'have' to give it a 5 star rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Card for the price! But beware speed!
This card is great, especially given the price. But beware the 12x- I don't think that many cameras actually take advantage of the speed increase! Maybe with card readers it will download faster, but it certainly hasn't made it possible for me to make more pictures faster on my Canon 10D. But then again this card is an Excellent buy the the cash... it'll be money well spent!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lexar 12X 256 MB CF Card is great!
I now have eight of these cards, and they have all worked flawlessly! My Nikon Coolpix 880 manual says they aren't tested to work, but Lexar guarantees 100% compatibility. That convinced me to try my first one, and the extra capacity over the 128 MB card is fantastic! I plan to use these more, when I upgrade to a higher megapixel Nikon Coolpix camera.

There's an advantage to having several smaller capacity cards than one big one. If a sole big MB card fails, you have no memory storage, then! This did happen to me on a photo shoot in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, a couple winters ago, with another brand card. Luckily, I've been picking up more memory cards as they went on sales, with rebates and discounts. But with a new 8 MP or more Coolpix, I eventually will get a few more 1 GB, or more, cards.

With my 8 Lexar cards, I can shoot over 2,000 images set mostly at a fine resolution, full-sized, for a 3 MP Coolpix. A seven day road trip filled them up, for me. This does improve the screen viewing image, too, over those at a normal setting.

I am awaiting three rebates currently, and Lexar's rebate notification system is very helpful in making sure they received your rebate forms, receipt copy, and proof-of-purchase.

If you need more memory than comes with any digital camera, I'd strongly recommend this card. With 323 images (set at Full/Normal) to shoot with a 3.34 MP camera, that'll get you through most all a beautiful, shooting day!

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems!
I've been using this card with a Canon S400 camera for about four months now, taken 500+ pictures and transferred them to my computer.I've had absolutely no problems with the card, and it seems to write and erase as quickly as I could want. For me this was an excellent intersection of size and price; a capacity of roughly 125 photos at full four-megapixel resolution is plenty even for my most intensive day of photography, and this won't break the bank.I'm certainly disposed to buy Lexar stuff again in the future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars worth every penny.
I bought the flashtrax for a trip to Southeast Asia so I would not have to lug around a laptop or extra memory cards. The little device made the trip, every day I could download the photos and then put on a slideshow. It really is worth the cost, I have since taken it on 4 other trips and it has never let me down. The battery life could be better, but it is not too bad for just downloading the pictures from memory cards.I recommend buying the memory card adapter as well, even if you only have a camera that takes compact flash cards. That way you can download your friends and families pictures to your flashtrax.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let me show you 10,000 pictures of my grandkids.
I bought it for 2 reasons.First, as a present for my wife to carry in her purse - thousands of pictures of family & friends, and 2nd, as a place to store digital pix without having to lug my laptop around.

I ordered one from on Nov.22. (Standard supersaver shipping) - I received the unit the next day!On the 24th I took it to work and opened the box. While the unit would turn on, the screen would not "light up", and the "reset" button broke and fell into the case.I went online and within 30 minutes had printed the return shipping (UPS) label, and requested a replacement.

I got it Tuesday (Nov 30), and opened the box this morning. This one works, and it's way cool.

I've already downloaded and updated both the firmware and the bootloader.Simple & easy.

Bright, big screen.Full resolution jpg's (1MB ea) take about 1 second to sequence.Plays my Nikon 5700's .mov files perfectly w/o conversion.Zoom, pan, EXIF display, histograms, etc.Create albums w/ timed sequencing. No complaints, yet.I'll update this review in time.

Needed: ability to delete while viewing full-screen!

    Don't forget SmartDisk's $50 rebate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead as a Door Nail
I purchased the 30 gig version from Amazon. It appears to be the same as the 40 gig, except for the drive size.I loved this thing. It worked great.Unfortunately, I left it alone for about 4 months, and when I went to use it the other day, I got the opening screen, and it went nowhere from there.Dead, dead, dead. And on its 13 month anniversary, to boot...or I guess, not to boot.I guess I'll have to pay for any repair now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Software Could be Better
Pros:The concept of this device is great. While traveling and taking photos, I definitely need someplace to dump files off my flash cards without having to lug around a laptop. The size is very portable and just right. The easy dumping acting with the one buttom "copy" function is perfect.

Cons: The device gets pretty hot when in use.The software in this device surprised me.I thought it would be a little more sophisticated than it is.It's a little tedious going through the programs/menus etc.

Wishful thinking:I really wished the screen was better...wouldn't it be great if it could have had a plasma screen? :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good allrounder
I had the need for a product that could be used for: 1. playing MP3, 2. dumping photos 3.Viewing photos and 4. Portable data storage.Along with the Archos products this was the only device which can do it all.I selected this because I prefer the "gameboy" design since it protects the screen well.In fact, I was so impressed with the specs that I was prepared to pay about $170 shipping(to south africa) and run the risk of losing it since there is no support outside US/Europe at all.It all paid off(so far). Fortunately it arrived intactand I have had the device now for 3 problem free months.

It plays music with exceptional quality and photo dumping from all card formats are a breeze with the very flexible optional adapter. TV connection also works well. The video only supports Motion JPEG - MJPEG.AVI files.I have been able to look at .avi videos taken with a Canon camera successfully. However with a downloadeable translation tool from their web site, many other formats can be translated and it works. The translated video takes up a bit more space after translation.Since the device firmware can be upgraded, one hopes that they will come out with more video codecs. The only glitch i found is that the operating system can be very slow when you have large directories. With 40GB of dispace available, a directory can become too large very quickly. That requires a lot of organizing if you have lots of music to store. I also requested from the support people to confirm (before I ordered)whether I would be able to read a Memorystick Duo (with supplied adapter) but there was no satisfactory answer.Battery life is not great, about 3 hours when playing music only, but that should be expected for a device such as this. When only using it for dumping photos, it lasts for days.

A nice feature is that it can read .M3U playlists created on our PC and you can create playlists on the device itself.

An all in all impressive product which have given me countless hours of joy(so far) and I would recommend it for sure.In fact,I have not seen a device on the market yet for the price that can beat it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit - super fast!
I bought this SanDisk 256 MB card for my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3 camera.Using this 3 MP camera at highest resolution, I get approx 155 pictures on the card.Even though I take pictures in bunches, I was able to get all my shots from a recent long weekend in the mountains on one card.So for me, the card is plenty big enouggh for day-to-day use.If I go on an extended vacation, I'll need to by additional cards, or a bigger one.But if I have access to my computer to off-load the images every few days, this works just fine.

One great feature of my new camera is the ability to take rapid-fire pictures in "burst" mode. When shooting the kids playing sports, or sledding down a mountain, the camera can shoot as fast as four frames per second.Even at highest resolution, I have had no problems shooting in bursts using this card - there is just no noticeable delay in writing the multiple images to this card.

I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on this card. All I can say is that for me (so far), it has been the perfect blend of performance and price.

5-0 out of 5 stars How many pictures will it store?
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about.Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk SDSDH-256-901 Secure Ultra 256MB, like most 256MB cards, will store on average 284 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 213 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera,128 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 102 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 80 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Bad Experience to lose valuable pictures on this SD card
I bought one of this card from this page. My consideration is the speed. SanDisk SD Ultra II 256MB is up to 10MB/s as advertised. My minolta xg camera can use this speed to take continuous movie. I took some pictures when I got the card. It seemed OK. At the end of my 3-week vacation, the card was dead at 194th picture. I tried several ways to recover the pictures. Although I could see the file list, I can only copy 5 pictures. If I try to access others, the reader will look up. SanDisk should stop sell such trash. I will learn from others to get refound from SanDisk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Corrupted before I even got the rebate
There have been many stories on the Internet about avoiding Sandisk Secure Digital cards because after using them for a short period of time, they became corrupted causing people to loose their pictures. I have a two month old 256MB Ultra II SD card that just bit the dust as well as causing me to loose everything on the card. I tried everything I could think of to revive the card, but it's stone cold dead. I've been shooting digital for nine years now and have several cameras, so I'm not a newbie. To Sandisk's credit, they are providing a prepaid FedEx label (though I still have to drive to the FedEx station), but I was told it would take 3-4 weeks before I received a new card. This is far too long to wait so I'll be looking at other brands before considering another Sandisk product.

1-0 out of 5 stars LASTED 3 WEEKS - BEWARE
I also have problems with this card. I used it in ZIO USB reader/writer and it didn't work. Then my camera started acting up, and finally card is not recognized in a Minolta camera. I will return it ASAP. BEWARE! ... Read more
