Poor track record for 230-Watt supply
This is supposed to be a replacement supply for e-machines & HP Pavillion. The one I purchased (for a customer / friend) arrived without any screw-holes or hardware (holes had to be drilled and tapped manually). Also, it failed after only 6 months of its 12 month warranty on a system which had a pretty minimalist (< 160 Watt) rated Peak power configuration of hardware (plus only a P3 was installed). The distributor is no longer running its web site now as far as I can tell, so I don't know how to go about getting an in-warranty replacement.

I also think this is the supply from a certain Powmax Power Supply / Case combo, which I haven't noticed in use anywhere - except as a replacement case. I also heard that the case-installed supply failed somewhat frequently too.

I don't think I would try buying another from scratch - even though it is relatively cheap (thus only 3 stars - giving the benefit of the doubt that others may not have had any bad experiences).

Works great
I bought this over a year ago and it was an excellent purchase.I plugged a power strip into this, and use it to charge my Compaq Armada laptop, cell phone, and a AAA battery charger all at once without any problems.Having AC power in the car is quite convenient.

Great for trips
I used this converter to power a 13" TV/VCR combo in our van during along trip recently. It was great. The kids sat in the back and watchedmovies and it made the trip much nicer. My only complaint is that it goesoff when you stop the car and then you have to unplug everything and replugthem in when you are ready to use them again. Overall it was great though.

The short answer is that it works great, when plugged in to a carbattery (ie via the cigarette lighter port), as it was intended to beused.

It's possible that you could plug this inverter into some hokeybattery-charging device meant to 'recharge' your auto battery, but I doubtthat you'll get that much power out of it as you only get out most of whatyou put in.
