Amazon.com Product Description

The simply designed setup and interface of the Epson Perfection 1650 will have you happily scanning away in just a few minutes. The scanner connects to your PC or Macintosh via a USB cable, and its slim design and small footprint show that it was designed with the home office in mind.

A serious hobbyist couldn't ask for a better combination of precision and value. Despite the relatively low price, the scanner offers a 16-bit grayscale, 48-bit color, and a maximum resolution of 1,600 x 3,200 dpi--which is more than enough scanning power to glean every sharp detail from family photos.

One-touch buttons allow you to instantly copy, print, or e-mail photos. The built-in zoom feature provides a range of 50 to 200 percent, supplying plenty of options for enlarging or cropping your final prints. A cold cathode ray lamp is used as the light source, a powerful and economical choice that provides hours of efficient lighting. Maximum scan size is 8.5 x 11 inches, large enough for most office documents as well as your favorite vacation shots.

Included in the box is a USB cord, along with Epson Twain and a design software package. The manufacturer's warranty covers parts and labor for a full year. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, reliable, and easy to use
You can't go wrong with this. I've had it for over 2 years now, and am still loving it. Even though it is USB it is extremely fast. Another plus, is that the linux drivers are awesome.

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT for XP Pro...
This scanner worked fine on ME, but we all know how well ME works.I upgraded to XP PRO, and just can't get the software to work.Mechanically, the scanner is fine, but the software and support from Epson and Newsoft has left a lot to be desired.I have spent HOURS on the phone to both support groups, but error code (-115) seems to be unbeatable.Never mind, Epson, I'll buy the Canon next time.Vote with your dollars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, good quality, fast enough
I'm very happy with this scanner - most photos scanned only require some basic dust and lint correction in PhotoShop or similar. Can scan negatives or slides, though the interface to do this is a little less than ideal and it's easier to scan prints if you have them.Software provided is flexible, allows scanning to files or scan to printer (copy feature).TWAIN interface allows interaction with PhotoShop or other software directly - easy to acquire new images. When I bought this scanner, a lot of folks were complaining about the dust on the backside of the glass, but I didn't really see much of that with mine.It is a little difficult to keep clean, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor software
I was disappointed with the software provided with this scanner. As a software developer I have a high tolerance for bugs, but a few issues were particularly bothersome:

1) My wife installed and uninstalled the scanner before she gave it to me as a present, just to make sure it worked. It did. When I received it and tried to reinstall the software, it would not work. Apparently the uninstaller does not work properly. After following technical support's 15 step instructions on how to get it working again, the scanner was still not being recognized.

2) Epson does not make their own scanner software - it is produced by a company called Newsoft. That means if you have any problems with the software, you have two companies to deal with.

3) The scanner is not compliant with WIA (Windows Image Acquisition), so it will not seamlessly integrate with other applications that use the WIA standard. In addition, it is not plug and play on installation; the directions specifically say to cancel the Windows dialogs that try to install the scanner for you. In other words, it doesn't seem to play nice with Windows XP.

I returned it and purchased the CanoScan 5000F instead. Completely plug and play with XP, scans at a higher resolution, and the software has been flawless.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy image quality
The 7700 was a replacement for my years old Microtek X6 that had been a good scanner but was beginning to show its age.The drivers installed without a hitch and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, the image quality of this scanner is terrible.I tried dozens of combinations of the manual settings, trying to get some scans that were acceptable.Even with the full "48 bits" skin tones and color graduatiions were completely unnatural.Add to this the occasional scan that had light verical lines.I returned the unit (thanks Amazon) and subsequently purchased a Canon LiDE 30 that works fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fine scanner, Very poor device driver
I got the scanner from Amazon on sale! It took me about an hour to get it to work with Win XP (Installed the so-called XP certified updated driver from Visioneer web site). Still every time I start the PC, the driver works on a randomly fashion!

Apparently, this problem is very common and their customer support receives a lot of complaints about their drivers.

If you have WIN XP and you dont mind re-installing the driver every once a while, it might be a good scanner for you. The scanning quality is just fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Drivers thin, performance subpar, glitches, colors, etc.
In design, it seems sleek, useful < two card ports built right in> and fast. EXCEPT... Windows XP/XP Pro,, simply hates the drivers supplied. Constant battles to get the computer to not only recognize the scanner, but to KEEP IT installed.I have had many a fine day wasted just getting it reconfigured to work. NOTHING else is changed, yet the system constantly cant " find" the scanner. Just a nightmare that the drivers never seem to solve.
Now, performance. I have had numerous problems with severely distorted colors, mysterious " bands and streaks" across photos scanned, rendition and color way off the mark, all around, I would NEVER buy a visioneer again. I bought a 5820 to try n get buy with it, till I can afford a Minolta 5400 or Dual Scan elite, the visioneer 5820 wont even operate or configure with XP.visoneer has a lousy reputation with Windows, and Win XP goes to great lengths to make sure you DONT purchase another Visioneer scanner. I cant rate it lower than 1 star, or i would.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
The software Visioneer provides with their scanners is what sets them apart from Epson, HP, Canon, and all the others.Forget multiple scanning operations and fiddling with setting to get the scan right.Kiss cheap drivers goodbye.

There are multiple buttons on the scanner itself which are preprogrammed for the "one-touch scanning" feature, or you can program them yourself using the software.Press a button, and it just does what you want. You can send the output to wherever you choose, whether it be straight to the printer, to the scan software, or to your photo editing program.Have your document OCRed and sent to Word.Fax it to someone. The flexibility of this scanner is amazing. And it all comes preprogrammed for those who don't know or don't care how to customize it.

I love Visioneer and have three of their scanners (office, home 1, and home 2).Check them out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Image quality sucks
I upgraded to the 7700 from the old 6100B. I'd got great scans from that scanner, so thought i'd stick with Visioneer. BIG MISTAKE! The image quality of this scanner [is bad]. I too went through many hastles trying to install on an XP machine. Finally i succeeded, but when i scan, i get bad contouring of the image (scan pictures with lots of sky, or skin tones and you can see steps in the color) and quite often, lots of lines across the scan.
After hours of technical support (most of which were waiting for someone to answer the phone), and after being instructed to reinstal the software twice, they sent me a new scanner. Same problem! I heard CIS scanners has poor image quality, but this thing is un-usable.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing short of a drum scanner beats it
When you are going to spend a lot of money on a large purchase like this you like to shop around and know that you are getting everything for your dollar.I found out that nothing short of a drum scanner is going to come close to the optics in this scanner.I feel like it is the Mercedes of scanners, with features like anti-vibration and other features that you don't really know exactly when they do but know that they are contributing to the operation of the scanner.Since we have received the scanner we have been very pleased.I called up technical support to get the run down on how to operate the scanner and a very nice gentlemen walked me through the operation and use of the scanner. This is very important as customer service should be of critical importance, for when you buy a product you like to know that there is someone there for you if you do need help.Overall 10/10 as we speak. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars good but
The scanner has been good for everything I scanned except some photo's. Most photo's have spots on them after scanning that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what I do to try to adjust it. The picture they use to do adjustments is too small to see what you are doing. It will look good but then when you save it and go in to look at it, it still isn't right. It could be a little faster too. I don't understand why it will scan some photo's well and some are really bad. I cleaned it as directed and still it came out bad. Not my choice of scanner from now on. Will go to Cannon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me in Windows 2000 and xp
Wish there is a power button on this model

3-0 out of 5 stars Scanner is great, support is just awful
The Microtek 4800 scanner is a great buy, as long as it installs perfectly the first time.I have Windows XP, and one reason I chose this scanner is it's supposed to be compatible. Not hardly.Between two computer professionals, we couldn't get it to work. After several phone calls and numerous e-mails, we were told the problem was very complicated and we should use the premium (pay) support. This was before the 30 day free support period ended. We finally got into the registry and got it working.I do like the performance and features, just beware if you have XP or any unique setup...

1-0 out of 5 stars Quit Working for no Reason...
I had it less than 6 months and it quit working, for absolutely no reason. The prescan viewing area is terrible which makes it hard to fine-tune your graphics.

For some reason the scanner would make noises like it was going to scan something EVERY time I saved a file, no matter what type of file it was.

I also do not like programs that automatically start when Windows starts.... with no consumer's choice to do so.Of course, I disabled that.

The scans did not come out as good as I wanted them too.
For being 48 bit the final scan is not that great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Am furious!
just when I really need the scanner....it just quit working and I have not been able to find a number to call anyone!!I have only had it less than one year too! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Machine Ever
i sit next to this monstrosity at work and see, and hear, the complaints daily. It pulls multiple pages while both printing AND faxing. We even sent it back to be fixed because of another issue, and it is still as difficult as ever.

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE

2-0 out of 5 stars This is the first HP product I dislike .
I have had many HP products last forever with no problems. This 7140XI looks like it will perform, but I agree with the other review the product is not ready for prime time. Same complaints as above, HP software is bad, no recent attempts to patch. Scanner gets hung up frequently, Burns through ink. Document feeder has had problems; pulls through multiple pages, they have now resolved with a new doc. feeder. HP customer service has really been so good to me I don't like dissing their product. But, I don't like it, and I am looking for a new all in one. Hope this helps!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of the Best Investments I Ever Made
This all-in-one printer does everything it promises very well. I print all my family photo prints from this printer; double sided prints saves me paper, and has great print quality too. Have not had the problems others have complained about. Always advisable when you buy an electronic hardware like this to download and install the latest software. Also, read the manual. I use this printer as part of my home network. Bought the 7140xi to get the printer network accessory as part of the printer. By itself the network accessory has almost the priceof the 7110, 7120 printer. So get the series with the network printer. I love this printer and have been using it for over a year now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great multifunction device for small office
We have three of these and just purchased a fourth. They are fast and work very well for medium-volume work (probably could handle more). All three currently running are in different offices and users roam from office to office and are able to print/scan/fax.

The setup was a little clunky and hard to understand how to make work.We did have to get on the phone with tech support a couple times for the first printer, after we knew what we were doing they were much easier.Support was very knowledgeable.

The drivers are the only other sticky point. They are a little difficult to reconfigure when the network configuration changes. And may require re-installation to make work after a change. But once they work, they work well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fax does not work
After having problems receiving faxes from certain fax machines, I just returned my HP to buy a Cannon Multipass. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars XP Updated Drivers work
I concur with the prior reviews. The Scanmaker X-6 was a nice functional product for it's time, but I really had trouble getting it to install and run in Windows 98. After a couple of frustrating sessions, I got it to work (the included software Dynacion Swiss Army Knife did the trick) and it has worked well for several years. The already mentioned quirk of not recognizing the scanner unless it is turned on at computer system boot up was the biggest annoyance.

I just upgraded to Windows XP and the scanner was obviously not compatible.Went to Microtek's site and downloaded the updated software drivers.First install attempt ... the install program crashed.Waited a couple of days.Second attempt... install program ran, but then on reboot got a can't find some kind of .dll file message.Uninstalled the scanner and reinstalled.Third time.. ran install (setup.exe program in Disk 1 of download) again and it worked perfectly.Set up and ran on reboot.

Scan quality is still good... not as good as new scanner and is relatively slow (Extended parallel port EPP Interface), but also $100-$200 cheaper than buying a new scanner.

Good product, finicky "not so hot" to "crummy" install software.Nonexistent support from company other than downloads.I'm not an expert software, computer guy, just persistent and did get it to work.I'm using it with XP ... also works well with XP control panel scanner icon and software... but will probably upgrade to better scanner in next few months (Apr 2004 post)

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent scan quality, sluggish speed
I've had this scanner for about 3 years now. It has worked perfectly in Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. I mainly use this scanner for photographs. The scan quality is excellent, as evidenced by correct tonal reproduction. You can even scan 3D objects by placing them on the scan bed, effectively getting a digital camera quality image. The only downside is speed. This scanner features a parallel port connection, which severely cripples its performance potential. Basically, if you need an all-around quality scanner to be used for occasional scans, look into it.

1-0 out of 5 stars A LEMON FOR SURE
I have had the same software problems as the other reviewers, and have had a terrible time with this scanner. Also, like the other reviewers, I consider the scan quality of this scanner to be excellent but unfortunatly I am seldom able to make it work. The software is for win 95 but did not work properly even with that version of windows, and with Windows 98, its almost out of the question, though I have been able to use it a few times. (hehe) I think that if 13 out of 13 reviews say theres software problems, that as a minimum its time for the buyer to beware, and perhaps even time for a refund or exchange from Microtek.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent scanner but terrible software
It scans pictures with pretty good quality for the price, I have no problem with that.In addition, you can use both printer and scanner with only one parallel port on the computer. It's a little tricky to get this to work right, you have to boot up in the right order (printer first, then scanner, then computer) but overall still pretty nice to use both devices with one port.

The downside to this scanner is the software.Basically, it's all garbage. The only piece I use is the TWAIN acquire software attached to my Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop to bring scanned pictures in.In addition, I have a terrible time reinstalling the drivers for this scanner whenever I unplug it from my parallel port.My CD-ROM chokes whenever I place the Microtek scanning CD in my CD-ROM.I had to download the latest drivers from the Microtek website instead.

My recommendation is: invest the extra money to get a newer, more current scanner with at least a DECENT software package. But buy the scanner for the scanning, not the software that comes with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars bum equipment
I purchased a scanner from a store (best buy) in modesto, Ca.When I got home i found that the scanner was used.the cd was thrown in the box w/o protection nd it was dirty.the white cord was dirty.I took it back (60 miles round trip) and the store siomp[ly offered me another scanner and 25.00 in cash for my trouble.I then bought a scanmakerX6 (new) and took it home.It worked for awhile then stopped and my computer was really going down.I finally took my comp to a shop and they fixed it. I again tried to install the scan, maker x6 and more problems.IT WILL NOT WORK.my computer won't even rec it now.I want to send iut back to the co, but don't know how.Bob ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Does descreening on magazine pics as well as slides
A great scanner, but it took a little time for me to set it up with the software.Called service at Epson and was so impressed with them.Problem I had with setup was that I had not uninstalled my UMAX software (previous scanner) and there were conflicts.Once I took it off, no problem.Called Epson service later to find out how to use the descreen function in order to scan pics from magazines without getting a moire pattern, but the tech guy said he'd have another more knowledgeable guy call me.The new service tech was top notch and spent (his dime) more than an hour with me on the phone showing me how to set up the scanning for special effects, color adjustments, descreening, and so much more.I recommend you use the "manual" setup rather than the automatic scan setup, and if you have Photoshop you don't need to install their image editing software.Great service.Great scanner. They have a newer one now, model 1660, which I assume is even better.

5-0 out of 5 stars great quality scans
Bought for scanning several family photo albums onto CDs for members of the family. 800+ pictures later, the 1650-Photo is still buzzing along without any gliches.
Installation was easy, done with clear printed directions (onto a Mac G4 running OS 9.2)
The scanner does a quick pre-scan to produce an image you can see to make whatever adjustments for framing, color, contrast, shadow & highlight levels you desire. If you use the Auto mode instead, the software is so "smart" that it will usually produce results as good as you can do using the adjustments mode.
Once you are satisfied with the pre-scan image, you click on "scan", which the 1650 does in about 4 seconds. Thumbnail images of each scanned photo are displayed, along with the option to type in a name for each.
The picture files can be saved into several file types. If you chose .jpg you can adjust the file size, going small for e-mail use, to large for making paper prints.
I have not yet made any scans of photo negatives, but have of jewelry and maps and they turn out great! An excellent product at a very reasonable price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Compatible with Mac OS X
I purchased the Epson 1650 Photo Flatbed Scanner 6 months ago.The primary reason I was attracted to this particular model was it's ability to scan 35mm slides. NOT.... Although Epson claims it is Mac compatible, Epson neglects to inform the consumer that the scanner IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the Mac OS X operating system.

Epson has been promising me delivery of the necessary drivers (at an additional cost, accompanied by a sales receipt, UPC bar code, and required application form) for 6 months now. In my latest contact with Epson (Oct. 3,2002) I am told they "do not know when the driver will be available".

So in conclusion, you owners of Mac computers - don't consider buying this product if you expect to use it as a scanner ... foranything else? ... it's up to you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great scanner.
It is pretty fast and quite quiet scanner. It is slow to scan negatives. VueScan seems to work very well with this scanner and scanned pictures without any color correction look very similar to originals, which gives you idea of quality of this scanner. Problem is slight dust underneath glass which is pain in the neck. Looks that Epson quality control is lacking. It should not happen. Made from Japanese components. If you want quality scanner then go for it but be prepaired for dust (yuck). I guess I will have to clean this glass myself because I don't want Epson to replace my scanner with refurbished one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not PERFECTION but close
I've been using this scanner for 9 months now and am extremely pleased with it.My only gripe might be that their is no on/off switch.Have to plug and unplug it all the time.I use the copy function on it all the time in my home office and it works great.I also use it as my fax machine and that works well also.Have had great luck with scanning photo's and good results. The only problems I've encountered was doing old slides.Had to go in and manually take control to get them to scan to my liking.Other than that I leave everything on auto and all has been good.Mine is hooked to a HP N5495 laptop with Win XP and has encountered no problems.Great scanner!!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Quality scanner, great value
I read a few reviews about this product before I bought it.Most of the reviews were positive and this scanner has won best in class with various magazines.

I have to say I was not disappointed in any way.Sure, it's not the world's most attractive scanner, in fact it's on the ugly side of unattractive, however it does what it's supposed to.It scans at an incredible quality, and does it fast.I have yet to see a better scanner on the market for under $100.

I would recommend this scanner to anyone, unless you have money to burn and want to spend 2-3 times more money; this scanner represents exceptional value and quality.

My only reservation is that the accompanying software is not brilliant.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good scanner, sorry software
The scanner is a great piece of hardware, but the included software, TwainScan L, is very limited. The user can't easily adjust scan resolution or control brightness or contrast. Default settings are quite dark and must be adjusted with software after scanning.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice little scanner - very good value.
Having owned and installed many scanners, I wanted a new simple scannerfor my private office. The Epson 610 installed instantly with the includedusb cable, and I was scanning within 5 minutes. It's fast, and the bundledtwain driver works well. Even the basic OCR software works well for basicword processing - but you might want to install a high-end OCR softwarelike Textbridge Pro for more options. Color photos scan well, but you getfar better color if you don't choose the 'quick scan' option.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nightmare Alley!
I ordered and received this scanner from Amazon.com.It was received in good order, and I attempted to install it the day of receipt, without anysuccess.I was then forced to call EPSON technical support for help.Ittook me 3 days and nearly 2 hours on the phone with these technicians andthey were not able to resolve my problem. It turned out that I had a badunit delivered to me.What made things worse is that EPSON refused to sendme a new replacement scanner, they say it's against there policy. Theywanted me to bring it to one anEPSON repair centers, located two townsaway. I figure, like most people, that if I buy a new scanner and never useit I should get a new replacement and not one requiring repair. WithAMAZON's return policy I have been able to get my money back for thescanner, but I'm still out $35.18 in phone expenses trying to resolve myproblems with this scanner.EPSON does not have an 800 phone number fortechnical support questions, and any expense incurred trying to rectify aproblem with any EPSON product becomes yours expense. My advise to any onecontemplating the purchase of an EPSON product, is to keep this in mind"you may be paying for more than the item you are purchasing.Don'tbuy EPSON!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
With quick setup and easy to use features, the Epson 610 Perfection Scanner is an awesome deal for the price! The pictures I scanned were clear, and I was shocked to find how much clearer they could be made byusing the features available for picture clean up!

I would recommendthis product to anyone! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Scanning has come a long way over the past few years, and you can now thankfully get a very respectable model without breaking the bank. The 2400 from Xerox is a flatbed fitting that bill. While the low price tag is the first thing most people will notice, the 2400 also provides a 600 x 1,200 dpi hardware resolution (up to 9,600 x 9,600 dpi interpolated) and 36-bit color depth, so your scans are bright, accurate, and full of life.

Most people aren't scanning experts, nor do they want to spend their time becoming one, so the 2400 has preset scanning modes designed with exactly such users in mind. Select from one of six modes (OCR, copying, black-and-white photo, color document--faster, color document--better quality, and custom), press scan, and presto!

The software bundle includes Scansoft Textbridge Pro OCR, so you can scan documents and easily convert them to editable text. MGI's PhotoSuite III SE provides control over a range of scanner settings and has tools to help you get the best possible scans. The 2400's 8.5-by-11.69-inch platen fits most document sizes with ease, while the USB interface makes connecting the scanner to your computer a snap. Compatible with PC operating platforms only, the 2400 comes backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Amazon.com Review

Looking for a good basic scanner for home or small office use? The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 6350Cse professional scanner is a strong performer and is easy to set up, so you will be scanning in no time.

The ScanJet 6350Cse is a solid basic scanner that more than adequately fills a useful range of needs. Setup and installation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized quick installation poster was easy to read and simple to follow. If you want additional assistance, you will need to check the coach feature (part of the extensive online help system) or other online help, since the 6350Cse doesn't include a printed user's guide. You can also use the internal coach to help scan your work after a quick but thorough tutorial. (It took us only 10 minutes to run through all the steps.)

In our tests, the scanner required a warm-up time of just under a minute and a half. After warm-up, we quickly reproduced flat images and slides using several different preset dpi settings. The scanner also has an automatic feeder for scanning multiple flat documents or images, which we found particularly useful. With the feeder attached, the scanner can handle up to five scans per minute. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in the placement of the slide, but it produces vivid scans.

This is a fairly effortless scanner that can meet a wide range of needs. Whether paired with an ink-jet or laser printer, you will get crisp, clear scanned images. You can also fax scans or attach them to an e-mail with the click of a button. --David Greenberger

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worthy of the HP name
This scanner has many good points, but doesn't live up to the HP name.It warms up slowly, scans slowly, and the manual slide mechanism on the 6390 version is a pain. I bought it to support a busy customer reception area, and it just isn't up to the job. Being a relatively expensive scanner, and an HP, I expected more.

The SCSI interface is VERY nice, and using it reduces the time per scan considerably.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and quality scanner!
I have this scanner for more than a 1.5 years now. I have choosen it because it's HP, and for the document feeder (there is no slide adapter with the 6350, it is bundeled with the 6390).

What I did not like is the miss of a printed manual (only on CD-rom) and the lack of an extensive on-line help (the help is very brief)! The 5 buttons on the scanner is just a joke for me, never used - I always wanted to make a scan/copy with other settings than the defaults. I have also configured the scanner to be used over our netwrok, whcich does not have much sense to me, but it works without problem.

The scanner have a SCSI-II interface, which let's it transfer data to the computer as fas as it reads from the glass. The document feeder is very useful, especially when making photo copies (the photo copy utility is very useful) or whith OCR through big quantities. The control software is really good too, let's you take control of all settings, no cut down.

I can recommend this scanner for all serious soho users!

3-0 out of 5 stars Requires Minor Quality Tweaks
I did not purchase my 6350 at Amazon, but did so elsewhere.I have lived with this scanner for 2 months now. Here are my thoughts on this product.Note that the 3-stars and title I give this product are slightlymisleading. The scanning quality is exceptional. The automatic documentfeeder (ADF) is a huge plus, and convenience. The software packageincluded is alright. The setup and connections were no problems at all. With minor tweaking of this product, HP could really make it a scanner thatwill get it 5-stars in every category.Consider the following: 1.Thescanner does not include faxing software, or at least I could not find any. This is a minor issue, however.... 2.The scanner optical"glass" surface had smudge marks and foggy spots, right out ofthe box.Perhaps better quality control/assurance practices at HP will fixthis.Items with such obvious defects should never leave the manufacturingfacility.Note that the average user cannot clean the underside of thescanner "glass".Hp does not recommend this for the 6350. 3.HPshould have packaged the standard document cover with this unit as well. In cases where the ADF is required to be removed for repairs, the standardtop could easily be put on. 4.The construction and design of the unit isnot conducive to keeping the interior dust free.I state this as thechassis has several visible openings, that could introduce dust, fibresinto the inside of the scanner.Perhaps HP designed it this way forventilation and dessipation of built up heat from the unit.HP couldperhaps better the design in future versions of this model.Since the 6300is the identical model without the ADF, this fact applies to it as well, and other similar HP models too. In summary, I am quite pleased with thisproduct. It does have the potential to be a GREAT product with a littlemore effort on HP's part. Sincerely, aba4430

4-0 out of 5 stars A Noticeable Difference
There seems to be an over emphasis on business equipment and adult toys when it comes to computers these days. I think it is important to remember that an entire generation is being raised in the computer age. Manychildren are far more sophisticated in their abilities than traditional athome products are designed and targeted towards.

A perfect example ofwhat a home system should have is the HP ScanJet 6350Cse. Here is a productthat not only provides mom and dad what they need for work, but, alsoprovides the children a high quality alternative for school projects thatwill knock the teacher's socks off. All this and it still won't break thebank.

From the moment you open package you will see the quality of theproduct. Using it only increases the pleasure. The scan quality is crisp, sharp and incredibly fast. The ability to quickly move from medium tomedium is fantastic. If you use your computer for faxing the AutomaticDocument Feeder (ADF) is an absolute life saver, and the more you use theADF the more you will appreciate having it.

Personally, I recommendgetting the SCSI card and cable, an optional accessory. It will increaseyour scanning speed and even sharpen your scanning ability. While the USBconnection is more than adequate, the SCSI card is that much better andbrings out the full capabilities of the unit.

Scanning is really anessential capability these days. From all in one printers and separate faxmachines, to expensive high end units it is easy to spend more on acquiringthe abilities the 6350 series offer and still not get the consistentquality. The software package is more than adequate and actually offerssome nice versatility compared to other packages that come standard withother units. This is one investment that will not become obsolete as soonas you open the package. You will definitely appreciate the quality of yourchoice.

2-0 out of 5 stars Look before you buy a HP Scanjet 6350 Cse
I have always liked HP products. Unfortunately they have started putting the customer second.

A friend and I both received this product for Christmas and now I wish I did more research before asking for thisparticular product.

First,we both had problems installing the scanner. The installation turned out to be the easy problem to solve. The hard partwas finding the support number. It seems that they intentionaly made itdifficult to find.Once you find the number you will notice that it is along distance number, which means it will show up on your phone bill.Youwill also spend an average of 30 min. per call. Therefore, my firstcomplaint is that the customer service is very bad.

Second, the slideattachment is a joke.It does not work.If you are thinking about buyingthis because it has a slide attachment, which I was, then do not evenconsider this product.

On the other hand, the flatbed scanner and thepaper feeder do work well.If I had known what I know now about thisscanner, I would not have bought, or asked, for it. ... Read more
