Amazon.com Review The ScanJet 6390C is a solid basic scanner that more than adequately fills a useful range of needs. Setup and installation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized quick installation poster was easy to read and simple to follow. If you want additional assistance, you will need to check the coach feature (part of the extensive online help system) or other online help, since the 6390C doesn't include a printed user's guide. You can also use the internal coach to help scan your work after a quick but thorough tutorial. (It took us only 10 minutes to run through all the steps.) In our tests, the scanner required a warm-up time of just under a minute and a half. After warm-up, we quickly reproduced flat images and slides using several different preset dpi settings. The scanner also has an automatic feeder for scanning multiple flat documents or images, which we found particularly useful. With the feeder attached, the scanner can handle up to five scans per minute. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in the placement of the slide, but it produces vivid scans. The ScanJet 6390C also includes a transparency adapter that allows you to scan transparencies in sizes up to 5 by 5 inches. This is a fairly effortless scanner that can meet a wide range of needs. Whether paired with an ink-jet or laser printer, you will get crisp, clear scanned images. You can also fax scans or attach them to an e-mail with the click of a button. --David Greenberger Pros: Cons: Features

Networking doesn't get much easier, as the GT-30000 is networkable right out of the box. The SCSI interface is VERY nice, and using it reduces the time per scan considerably.
What I did not like is the miss of a printed manual (only on CD-rom) and the lack of an extensive on-line help (the help is very brief)! The 5 buttons on the scanner is just a joke for me, never used - I always wanted to make a scan/copy with other settings than the defaults. I have also configured the scanner to be used over our netwrok, whcich does not have much sense to me, but it works without problem. The scanner have a SCSI-II interface, which let's it transfer data to the computer as fas as it reads from the glass. The document feeder is very useful, especially when making photo copies (the photo copy utility is very useful) or whith OCR through big quantities. The control software is really good too, let's you take control of all settings, no cut down. I can recommend this scanner for all serious soho users!
A perfect example ofwhat a home system should have is the HP ScanJet 6350Cse. Here is a productthat not only provides mom and dad what they need for work, but, alsoprovides the children a high quality alternative for school projects thatwill knock the teacher's socks off. All this and it still won't break thebank. From the moment you open package you will see the quality of theproduct. Using it only increases the pleasure. The scan quality is crisp, sharp and incredibly fast. The ability to quickly move from medium tomedium is fantastic. If you use your computer for faxing the AutomaticDocument Feeder (ADF) is an absolute life saver, and the more you use theADF the more you will appreciate having it. Personally, I recommendgetting the SCSI card and cable, an optional accessory. It will increaseyour scanning speed and even sharpen your scanning ability. While the USBconnection is more than adequate, the SCSI card is that much better andbrings out the full capabilities of the unit. Scanning is really anessential capability these days. From all in one printers and separate faxmachines, to expensive high end units it is easy to spend more on acquiringthe abilities the 6350 series offer and still not get the consistentquality. The software package is more than adequate and actually offerssome nice versatility compared to other packages that come standard withother units. This is one investment that will not become obsolete as soonas you open the package. You will definitely appreciate the quality of yourchoice.
A friend and I both received this product for Christmas and now I wish I did more research before asking for thisparticular product. First,we both had problems installing the scanner. The installation turned out to be the easy problem to solve. The hard partwas finding the support number. It seems that they intentionaly made itdifficult to find.Once you find the number you will notice that it is along distance number, which means it will show up on your phone bill.Youwill also spend an average of 30 min. per call. Therefore, my firstcomplaint is that the customer service is very bad. Second, the slideattachment is a joke.It does not work.If you are thinking about buyingthis because it has a slide attachment, which I was, then do not evenconsider this product. On the other hand, the flatbed scanner and thepaper feeder do work well.If I had known what I know now about thisscanner, I would not have bought, or asked, for it. ... Read more

RE bulb problems, I found my bulb was fine.If anythng goes wrong reset the scanner.Just power everything down, disconect the cables and power for 30 seconds.power up scanner (usb or scsi not conected)repeat 3 times, then a forth time with everything conected.Start up your computer and it all works.you may also have to check that your hpscnmgr.dll and hpscnmgr.hlp files are still in your wwindows system32 directory - if not, reload your software (available on the HP website) I also had the paper feed problem, HP told me how to clear and clean it.Bottom line was HP service answered my email within an hour (as they usually do) and continued to work me through any problems. Those problems didn't occur until after almost 3 years .. as these things go that is pretty impressive. BUT - I would like to have a larger flatbed (legal documents, etc.) and sugest that to anyone buying a scanner
Then, using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, you can turn those typed notes into Microsoft Word documents you can edit yourself. Need to get your documents scanned into your computer?Get this scanner!
The good news:setup and configuration were child's play under my Windows 2000system--it's truly plug-and-play all the way.The scanner is solid androbust, and churns out the scans reliably. The ADF works quite well and isa major time-and-effort saver, especially for those like me who aren't ableto locate the scanner to be within reach while seated at one's computer. The image quality is fine and the software included, Precision Scan 2.0,does its job. The not-as-good-but-still-ok news: the software is not theeasiest to use; it's a bit confusing when scanning either from the TWAINapplet or from within another application, having to switch back and forthto get the preliminary scan, crop it, and then obtain the "final"scan.More visible buttons and fewer menus to navigate would be the tickethere.Similarly, when you try to use the buttons on the front of thescanner to scan-to email, fax, print, file, etc, you have to navigate toomany menus to get the job done. The slide adapter is so kludgy andimprecise as to be nearly useless, so if you are going to scan a bunch ofslides there is a separate transparency adapter you will need lest you pullout your hair. And the scanning platen looked like my 18 month-old'seating surface. There was dust and debris all over both sides of theglass, plainly visible in the glow of the scanning lamp. How much effectthis has on the quality of one's scans I do not know, but HP should do abetter job on this to be sure. These objections do not detract from thebasic function of the unit, making excellent quality scans, but there isroom for improvement, hence the 4 star rating. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description 24-bit color and 300 dpi optical resolution create images with realistic tones and clearly legible text. Processing speeds run up to 15 single-sided pages per minute. This speed is variable dependent on which of three resolutions you select: 150 dpi (normal), 200 dpi (fine), or 300 dpi (superfine). The scanner connects via a USB 1.1 cable, and includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service. What's in the Box Features Reviews (13)
It doesn't do photos well.Photo paper attract paper dust (from your other scannings) and you get white spots. This machine is for converting bills and records into pdf quickly.400 dpi at 10 ppm and 600 dpi are usable - not that much slower for me.For scanning pictures and greyscale, you will need to buy a $80 flatbed scanner. This is a specialized machine, it does not do everything. The rated 15 ppm is for 11 inch pages. If you are scanning short paper (checks for example) it is faster. My checks scan at 60 checks per minute. I love my machine for what it does.If you wanted the machine for something other than scanning into a pdf (B/W or color), you will be disappointed. For what it does, it is beautiful. I haven't checked out the OCR capabilities.I think Acrobat will do it.Frankly, I don't need to OCR my bills and I never use it.
This scanner is "AWESOME".I've had it for 6 months, it blows away any and all visioneer scanners w ADF.

Amazon.com Product Description A quick overview of the scanner's extensive specs reveals a fixed-film moving sensor for single-pass scanning of 35mm and 120/220 film at resolutions up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi. A closer look shows that the DiMage offers "ICE3" image enhancement, which corrects flaws such as fading and scratches by using Digital Image Correction and Enhancement, Digital Reconstruction of Color, and Digital Grain Equalization and Management. The end result is that imperfect photos can be improved before you even open PhotoShop. Those obsessed with color reproduction will appreciate Color Matching options, which include sRGB, Apple RGB, SMPTEC-C, and PAL/SECAM, for the ultimate in color matching, regardless of whether you use more than one monitor. The DiMage offers a color depth of 8-bit and 16-bit. Slide- and filmstrip holders position a wide variety of film types and include a 35mm Film Holder FH-P1, Slide Mount Holder SH-P1, Universal Holder UH-P1, Standard Attachment HA-P1, Glassless Attachment HA-P2, and Film Mask Set FM-P1, which contains most medium-format masks. With two interfaces, Ultra SCSI and IEEE1394, the DiMage reduces overall scanning time, typically scanning 35mm film in 45 seconds, 6-by-9 film in just under four minutes (230 seconds). The included bundled software is remarkably intuitive, despite the many controls available, such as tone curves, brightness, contrast, color, hue, saturation, lightness, selective color, and pre/post correction comparison display. The DiMage clearly stands out as an exceptional scanner for professionals who demand the highest in image quality, speed, and usability. The unit carries a one-year parts and labor warranty. For black & white photos, I use Kodak's black & white film for color print (C-41) processing, the film recommended for use in the Minolta film scanner (due to limitations in how the Applied Science Fiction image enhancing software works). The results, nevertheless, were fantastic. The images were sharp -- with tremendous amounts of detail in both the highlights and the shadows. And digitizing them allowed me to use my PC to control the tonal range better than I ever could using a professional print service or my own home darkroom.Shooting -- and printing -- b&w photos has never been more satisfying. For once, I really felt like Ansel Adams! For underwater photography, I use Canon's A-1, a very affordable autofocus camera that's good down to 11 feet -- a sufficient depth for snorkeling or taking photos of my kids swimming below-the-surface in the pool. When I scanned some kids-playing-underwater shots into the Minolta, I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the results. The original photos (from the photo lab) were very bluish, as would be expected. But the prints made from the Minolta-scanned images had flesh tones and bathing suits that looked as natural and as colorful as if the photos had been taken on land!It was truly amazing. It made me immediately want to go out and enroll in scuba diving lessons -- to take underwater photos of very colorful fish.Jacques Cousteau, here I come! In both cases -- for b&w and underwater photography -- the Minolta allowed me to create the most sensational images I've ever authored in either medium. The Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro film scanner continues to delightfully expand my photographic horizons.I'm sure it can easily do the same for you.
The enlargements I've made (using the scanned images of my 35 mm negatives) are just phenomenal! Not only are they sharp and crisp -- but the Minolta brings out all of the shadow detail normally lost in the typical prints one gets back from a regular photo finisher.Pictures that I would've normally dismissed as being "too dark" now come alive with color and detail -- just as I remembered the original scene to be. I once read that 35 mm film contains between 11 and 13 megapixels of information -- which is far in excess of the capacity available in today's most advanced digital cameras. After seeing the photos created by my Minolta film scanner -- I have no doubt that this comparison is absolutely true. The enlargements I've made using my Minolta film scanner are vastly superior to my previous efforts: -Using a digital camera -- where the color range and image resolution are definitely inferior. As background, I selected the Minolta Scan Multi Pro since it was the only film scanner that I found which could do all of the following: 1)Accept both 35 mm and 120/220 (medium format) size film. The Minolta software that came with the unit was very easy to load. And the screen interface is very intuitive. The Minolta program is intended for scanning images only -- and opens as an import into Photoshop and Photoshop Elements (which I use), and other major photo editing programs.Since all of the retouching takes place in the host photo editing program, this allows the Minolta scanning software to be much simpler -- and much more reliable. There is an index scanning feature (at lower resolution) which provides for fast (initial) image viewing.Photo uploads -- at the highest 4,800 dpi setting with all of the filters turned on -- takes about five minutes.(I drink coffee while I'm waiting.)And the photos, once captured, normally require only minimal retouching or color adjustment (if at all). Since I shoot mainly with zoom lenses (and without a tripod), I was also worried that my 35 mm negatives woudn't be sufficiently sharp for making nice 8 x 10's.I was therefore pleasantly surprised to discover the following: -That my 35 mm photos had much more resolution than I ever knew existed (particularly in the shadows and fine details). The level of detail (and drama) that I now see in my scenics and portraits is truly exceptional!I couldn't be more satisfied. Granted, this Minolta Multi Scan Pro isn't cheap. And a less expensive film scanner can probably be had, especially if one can do without some of the options listed above (in particular, the 120/220 film capability, the faster Firewire connection, or the 4,800 dpi). I love, however, that my photo albums are now filled with page-after-page of beautiful -- and richly detailed -- 8 x 10 blow-ups.And I'm even happier knowing that I can continue to shoot using the highest resolution photo medium yet available today.Film! Get a Minolta Multi Scan Pro film scanner -- and discover just how good your 35 mm pictures really are! You'll be truly amazed! ... Read more
