Watch for several fast on and off surges.
We have several of these UPS's. They work well for the most part. They do the job that was advertised for lightning and when drunks hit telephone poles. We usually use a 600 or better. However there are some 500's toprotect modems and switches.

There is one scenario that seems to have aneffect on the UPS's. I don't know if it is clamping speed; but when theelectricity is turned on and off repeatedly, with approximately one secondintervals, the UPS does not recover quick enough to not effect the PC thatit is supposed to keep up.

The shipper may require that the battery bedisconnected. So you may want to look at this before attempting to chargeit for the first time.

The Ulitmate in Power Protection
I don't want to rave on and on about the product. I will just give you the stats. I live in a rural area and have owned and APC 300 UPS for my 300Mhz P-2 with a 17 inch monitor for 1 1/2 years and had 6 total power outagesand at least 15 power surges. I did not even see the monitor ficker! TheApc UPS kept my computer up and running so I could close apps, & getoff the net before I shut down the computer like I would normally. I alsohad lightning hit my transformer while on the computer and the Apc Ups didnot skip a beat. I am still using the same one today and I bought an ApcUPS 400 for my second computer(AMD K6-2 450, 15 inch monitor). I highlyrecommend a UPS for any computer. It is a small investment considering theover-all cost of the computer and data. I know this is not about the 500model, but the only difference is that the 500 model will allow you to stayon your computer a few minutes more before shutting down than the ones Ilisted. ... not good for high end PCs but good for Periferals
Not powerful enough for high end PCs but a great li'l Periferal back up for USB devices that hook to the computer and can be spiked with voltage through USB cables if not protected by the main UPS. my main(1200VA unit) has only two perifrial non battery plugins and cannot be used for this purpose as it would sap away from the power needs of the PC and monitor; but this device takes over with a battery for those devices.the bulldog software can be used with ANY UPS.
