5-0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm!Even on an OLD HP!
I didn't have the experience of plugging it in and printing.I have an older HP which did not have a compatible driver for Windows XP, I went to BELKIN website, called customer service and they directed me to an HP download to update the printer! It took less than 5 minutes and I am printing from my dell computer now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked seamlessly right out of the box...excellent!
I wasn't sure this would work, but gave it a shot anyway - I just got a new laptop with only USB ports (no parallel) and didn't want to have to buy a new printer too.Anyway, it literally took about 2 minuts from opening the box, to successfully printing.I'm running Windows XP, and it's a new Dell laptop and an old Canon BJC-2000 printer.I haven't tried yet and don't know if the scanner cartridge (that works with the BJC-2000) will also work with this cable, because it says on Belkin's Web site that it only works with the printing function, not scanning or other functions.Anyway, for what I wanted it for, a BIG thumbs-up for this cable.

1-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't work with HP all-in-one printers!
I bought this printer adapter and installed it on an HP Officejet 1170C all-in-one printer.I followed the revised instructions which came with the package (for Microsoft XP).Guess what, it didn't work.I tried printing a test page on Microsoft Word and it printed that page. When I tried to print an existing Word document on file, it wouldn't print. The printer got stuck and I couldn't turn off the printer at all.I had to physically unplug the printer before it would turn off.I looked in HP's website as well as Belkin's website for further instructions.I even read Belkin's latest instruction on the web dated May 31, 2002.This didn't help either. After numerous tries installing and uninstalling the hardware, as a last resort, I called Belkin's technical help and didn't get a good response either. They were not helpful. They just said it doesn't work with HP all-in-one products.Well, they should have mentioned that on the product cover. It would have saved me money, time and effort, not to mention the aggravation.I will probably buy another printer with USB connections.

1-0 out of 5 stars will NOT work for Epson printers!!!
The Belkin will not work with ANY Epson parallel printers.
No choice but to buy the Epson USB Adapter Kit.
Check the Epson site for details to see which kit if any will fit your printer.
Buying the USB Adapter Kit from Epson directly is the cheapest way to go!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the hassle
I bought the Mac compatible version of this product and was sorely disappointed on many levels.Although the instructions are explicit and easy to follow, the procedure didn't work.I had to install the software first and then hook up the cable. The software was a breeze to install, and my laser printer did work. But it cut the print quality from 600dpi down to 300dpi.It also slowed down the printing process, hanging up after printing a mere two pages.
The next day, I booted my system and turned on my printer.I worked on a document and tried to print it out.It didn't work.I tried all the troubleshooting suggestions, and it still didn't work.Eventually, I wound up setting aside my laser printer and buying a cheap inkjet with a USB port.I'm hoping somebody will produce a better adapter in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars USB 2.0 Repeatedly Crashes my XP Pro HP Laptop
Firewire and USB 2.0 connectivity both work fine on my Mac OS 10.2.8 Powerbook.Firewire also works fine on my Windows XP Pro HP Laptop.HOWEVER, USB 2.0 does not work at all on the XP Pro (SP1) system; it totally crashes everytime.USB 1.1 does work ok through the cardbus on the XP system;only USB 2.0 fails.I spent a few hours with ADS tech support. They were friendly, but could not solve the problem.I assume it is a USB 2.0 driver issue or conflict.Yes, I downloaded the most recent drivers.Very frustrating. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worked Great for 4 Years...
and it just died last week. Great hub I'm buying another!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works fine
I have one of these connected to a Power Mac MDD 867 and it works fine. Like the first reviewer, I used double-sided foam tape to secure the hub to my desk. Connected to it and working fine are a Lexmark printer, Canon scanner (bus-powered), Griffin iMic, Wacom Graphire tablet, Clie dock, Plantronics USB headset, and a Logitech MX710 mouse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is this a socket before my eyes...
I use USB a lot - I have a variety of devices that use it to communicae with computers, and the couple of sockets that most machines have has long since become inadequate for what I do.At present, I have two Belkin 7-port USB hubs and one 4-port model on various computers around my house and business. They are simple, unassuming, and loyally perform their work with a minimum of trouble.I've tried other hubs, but the Belkins have been by far the most reliable.

This is a plug it in then plug other things into it technology. The only thing you can do wrong is man-handle the connections hard enough to break something. And the Belkin sockets are plenty tough. It comes with it's own power supply which is more than adequate to support devices that draw their energy from the USB connection.

My only gripe is a typical one of all USB hubs - the box isn't heavy enough to overcome the pull of the USB wires.Of course, making it so would significantly effect the price of a very affordable device. This really is only an issue if you have to keep plugging and unpluging things.I gave up and grabbed a roll of double sided tape - end of problem. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars At Least I'm Not Alone
Seven months after installation, my Belkin 4-Port hub died. To judge by the reviews posted here, this happens far more often than it should.Windows XP informed me the Belkin hub had "mal-functioned," and if reconnecting it didn't work should "replace the device."So I did.

Hopefully, my new D-Link 4-port hub will last longer. At least the connections for the power and CPU are located on the back of the D-Link.For some unfathomable reason they're located on the front of the Belkin, so the cords were always pulling the box to the side.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the first time I've had to return an item
I'm always very skeptical of good reviews on products. There's almost no reason for someone to lie and say a product is bad, unless it's just bad, but I'm sure there are people out there working for companies that make a product or two and might like to help boost sales and profit by leaving great feedback on sites of major online retailers. Honestly, this is the first time I'll ever be returning anything I've purchased on here. I saw that there were quite a few bad reviews for this product but decided to take a chance anyway because of one reviewer saying it 'works great for mac'. and since belkins does make alot of good mac products I gave it a try. unfortunately I'm guessing it doesn't work for a PC or Mac seeing as, when I connected more than one usb device, a screen popped up saying that, there was not enough power to support the usb device. the funny thing is, the belkins USB 4-Port Hub has a power pack and still couldn't function supporting more than one USB device at a time. I thought who knows, it could be my computer but some USB devices like my iMic didn't even work at all, when connected to this product. so whats the use of having a USB hub if half the stuff you plug in won't work. I want to buy another one but Im not going to feel too happy if I just end up returning a more expensive one since alot of these hubs seem to have bad feedback. I love Amazon and their feedback system. I figure from now on I'll actually pay attention when theres 2 or 3 people saying a product doesn't work. (when theres about 20 people like in this case, I have no excuse if I purchase a product and it doesn't work.)

5-0 out of 5 stars I forgot I had it hooked up.
This has been great for me. I got it over a year ago. I am running Win 98 so I can't respond to the XP problems people mentioned but I don't even notice its existence. I have never even hooked up the power. I run an optical mouse, Palm cradle, scanner, and USB powered speakers. I love it and told my dad to get one.

1-0 out of 5 stars What made it quit working?
I wondered why my printer stopped working, why my Palm wouldn't connect, why my camera wouldn't connect. Finally narrowed it down to my Belkin USB hub.If it doesn't work nothing else does.Checked the reviews and they'r all bad.Belkin, you've had your last chance with me.Bye. Bye.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Choice
IT's not USB 2.0, with the same amount of money you can buy a USB 2.0 Hub that will work better.

Not Recomended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No complaints
I've been using this with my Powerbook and have been having no problems. I have hooked this up to an external hard drive, an external cd-rw and various other things. The card reader works great. I've put my memory sticks in there and it read them with no problems. I haven't tried the stand yet, because it fits the space I have for it just right when it's laid down. If you want a great hub and don't have a card reader, give this product a shot.

5-0 out of 5 stars works great!
I bought this with an eye on cutting down on on desk space and it has performed flawlessly for me thus far. I have an iBook running Panther, so i can't speak for how well it works on a windows platform. But I have all four of the rear slots plugged in and have not had a problem whatsoever since.the card reader on the front also performed flawlessly when I plugged in a compact flash card. It read it without complaining and I was able to transfer photos to iPhoto without a problem.
As for it being stable, that hasn't been a problem for me, but I also do not spend a lot of time plugging and unplugging peripherals, where the problem might occur.
[...]
If you're looking for something to plug the never-ending peripherals into and read just about any kind of card out there, check out the Iogear, I think you will be pleased.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for certain uses
I bought this hub for 2 main purposes and it satisfied both of them quite nicely.

1. I wanted an easy access usb 2.0 port to plug my ipod shuffle into that would also charge it.There two two ports at a 45 degree angle in the front that are perfect for the shuffle. The one caveat is that the shuffle is a bit wide so it blocks the second port when you plug it in.That's fine for me since I only use the front port for the shuffle. And it does a great job charging it, saving me from having to buy a separate $30 usb charger from apple.(if you do want to use it to charge your shuffle and want to see the charging status go from solid amber to solid green, then you'll want to plug it in with the computer on, then eject the shuffle - no big deal for me since I usually do this to replace the playlist each night)
2. A high speed card reader. It works great in this case too - it even reads the simpletech card that my sandisk 6 in 1 didn't read.Transfer speeds are pretty good - I think I get 5-10mb/sec.

My one gripe is that the base isn't very useful (as others have said). The unit tends to tip if you have things plugged into the back - fortunately, I don't have the need for the rear usb 2.0 ports.I would give it 5 stars if iogear could firm up the base.

My setup is a Mac running OS 10.3 with a iogear pci 2.0 card (since my Mac didn't come standard with USB 2.0)

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Buggy
It looks nice although the vertical stand is useless.Sounds good to.6 USB2 ports and a card reader.

Unfortunately it is badly flawed. It'll pause and restart during file transfer using the card reader, corrupting files in the process.Additionally, if you leave a card in the reader your computer will every so often redetect it and pop up a window. Can get very annoying as it interupts whatever you are doing or wkaes your computer if suspended.Lastly, it has the same pause and restart problem with the USB ports. If you are trying to print through this hub you are in for a tough time. This thing cost me a lot in paper and ink before I went back to my previous hub.

I've used other hubs and readers on this computer with no trouble. This one though is going back to IOgear.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the end-all-be-all I had hoped for
Here's a quick summary:

Pro:
1) Auto-mounts lots of memory card formats as drives under XP.
2) Has 6 USB ports - 4 on back and 2 up front for easy access
3) Has AC adaptor so that it can power lots of devices simultaneously; sometimes your computer can's supply enough juice to power all the USB devices that you can plug into it.
4) Neat white color that makes you feel like an iPod hipster (hey, I own two iPods so I can mock myself!)

Cons:
1) Doesn't sit well vertically when lots of cables are plugged into the back. Wants to tip over backwards.
2) Costs more than buying individual USB hub and card readers.
3) And the biggest con for me is... it messes up my suspend mode on my Sony Vaio laptop. Don't know why, this probably won't happen to you, but it seems to lock up my laptop periodically after it auto-suspends (probably a laptop power management issue). Once I even had to remove the battery from the laptop to get it to reboot. So to fix the problem I have to keep the hub unplugged and plug it in only when I want to use it. This seriously limits it's usefulness.

Please understand that your mileage may vary; you may never experience this issue, and I would easily rate it 1 star higher if not for con #3 above. I'm sure that there is some obscure Windows setting / bios upgrade / dll that I could tweak to fix the issue, but I'm just not willing to spend that hours necessary to figure it out. Maybe it's time to consider a Mac again.... :) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not USB2!
Make sure you note that this is a USB and not a USB2 card. If that's what you're looking for, you're in good shape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Perfectly Fine
I haven't had a single problem with this card; I am using it under Mac OS 9.1 right now, and plan on upgrading to OS X when the final release happens in March. The software included has caused me no problems and the card works fine for everything I have used it for. I currently have a printer hooked up to it (HP DeskJet) through USB, as well as a Gravis GamePad, and I have used the Firewire interface with a Canon DV Camcorder. All work fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous and flakey under Windows 2000

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
I bought this camera, and the first thing I noticed was that the LED light on the cam was not working when it was on. I then noticed that the button to take individual still frames was not working at all when I would push it. I called ionetworks and they told me that alot of units were sent out with the LED not working as it was wired wrong at the factory, and they further added that the button on top was no longer functional to take individual frame shots. ionnetworks then told me that I could send the unit back to them and wait two weeks for a new unit, and that I would have to pay shipping back to them. THEY SHIP DEFECTIVE UNITS AND WE THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? The camera constantly gives me artifacts when using with yahoo messenger, it does better when used with MSN. The camera is not consistant either. Although it does "self adjust" to a nice picture SOMETIMES most of the time it is no better or lessquality than a logitech 4000. If you are using this cam to chat I do not think it is worth 149.00, when you can get a logitech 4000 on AMAZON for 79.00. As far as for surveillance you can buy an axis camera system that is far better than this, as the watchport does not have built in IR for nighttime viewing. These things were on sale for 99.00 at one point, and they should definately go back to that price.

5-0 out of 5 stars 6 years old - still beats the market leaders today!
I just got the cam today and can only compare it to my cheaper Creative VideoBlaster Webcam Plus which it should beat hands down considering the price difference - and it does. However, here's the startling part:

This cam was released about 6 years ago (at least!). Originally it was called Vicam, but in early 1999 it was licensed to 3Com and sold as the 3Com HomeConnect PC Digital Camera. 3Com discontinued it for some reason, and so now it is sold by Digi International and Inside Out Networks (same thing?) as Watchport/V. Back in 1999 the MSRP was apparently the same as today: $199. Surprising? Here's why:

Look at a webcam test on Tom's Hardware Guide (Google it) from last fall. Here it is compared to the new models from Creative and Logitech - NX Ultra, QuickCam Pro 4000, QuickCam Orbit and more. The winner is: Watchport/V!

So here's to the market leaders Creative and Logitech. Impressive that you can stay on top selling webcams anno 2005 which still lose out to this cam from 1999 (or before?). What have your engineers been doing for the last 6 years, by the way?

I installed the cam on a Win98SE machine, and it worked out of the box. However, much of the value is in the Watchport Manager software which for some reason wasn't on the supplied CD, but you can download it for free (along with the newest driver) from Inside Out Nerworks' website. In fact, it would be a good idea to download the software and check it out before deciding whether to buy this cam.

I'm disappointed to realize that I've just paid $150 for a 6 year old webcam. On the other hand I can only be happy that I didn't pay for one of Creative's or Logitech's all but innovative models. Would you? ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Works with very few devices & requires software patches
This adapter only seems to work well with a couple of HP printers for which it requires that you patch the printer drivers. It won't work with Epson printers. Contrary to their claims, it will not work with PDA's. Buy the Keyspan serial adapter. Keyspan adapters are not compatible with a lot of devices, but they are compatible with many more devices than this horrible Belkin adapter. Also, Keyspan has better support.

1-0 out of 5 stars Belkin USB-Serial adapter
Not at all happy with this device. The claim "compatible with all serial devices"the reality is it is not .I wanted to connect my LaserWriter to my iMac (serial to USB).After much frustration I called Belkin and was told that this product does not support LaserWriter printers.Belkin was not very helpful and returning the product means I am out the shipping. If you are considering this product call to get specific compatiblity specs. ...
