Went through two - both failed on me
Went through two of these... first one failed immediately... second one worked fine for 1 hour and then died...

My recommendation would be to look at other brands.

Possible Fix For F5U224 Install Failures/Problems
I encountered nothing but diffuclties trying to properly install this 4 port hub on 3 different machines, all with ver 2.0 USB ports (MS Win SE or ME). First call to Belkin, the tech decided the hub was defective and they shipped me a replacement pronto.
New hub, same problems, but the next tech ran me through some uninstall/install procedures and claimed the problem is that Windows is not installing the native (ver 1.x) USB drivers which is what is preventing the belkin 2.x high speed drivers from installing successfully. Off and on I would try and fail until I absent-mindedly connected the hub to the machine WITHOUT the
power supply connected to the hub and guess what! New hardware detected, installing (Windows) drivers (4 times, 1 for each port) plus a couple of root hubs etc. been working as expected ever since in Win ME :-))

stay away from Belkin
They work for a month and poop out.go with another brand

Works well with USB 1.1 and 2.0
This hub has worked very well with my USB 1.1 ports.I recently tried it on my USB 2.0 PCI card.Initially, Windows XP didn't want to recognize the hub.A few switched ports and reboots later, problem solved.It is now running on USB 2.0 just fine, as advertised.In retrospect, my decision to pay a little more for a higher-quality product was a good one.

Of course, since no product is perfect, here are a few negative aspects:

1)All the USB ports are in the back of the product; it would be more convenient to have them in front.

2)The ports are quite close together.If you're using normal USB cables, you shouldn't have a problem, but some users with wider devices such as a flash card reader or a USB flash drive may have to unplug a cable or two to get the room they need to plug their devices in.

3)The AC adapter is HUGE; make sure you have plenty of room on your wall outlet or power strip to plug that monster in.

Problems, Especially with Windows 2000
This is one moody little device. I use both Mac and PC.With a Mac, this device usually works pretty well; but sometimes for no apparent reason it just stops working for a while and has to be unplugged and plugged back in.It is not compatible with Windows 2000 on lots of computers, including my Dell laptop.When Windows 2000 comes out of standby, it stops recognizing the hub until you either restart your computer or unplug and replug the device.On XP this should not be a problem, but other users report that some of the ports stop working after about six months.

Same as previous poster
Uncanny, but my hub had the same problem - mine lasted for about 1 year, but now the middle two ports don't recognize devices.

Wierd.When it worked I loved it, though.

Good looking but short lived
I bought it because it looked cute and small. Used it for 7 months, and the middle 2 ports gave up. All of a sudden it wouldn't recognize the keyboard, mouse or printer with those ports.
I tried plugging in some other things, those ports can still give power to my cooling fan though.

Micro Miles
Other than two minor flaws this hub does just fine. It would be nice if it could simply be system powered, as are others, without the need for A/C. Also the unit does need some "cool down" time before you put it away.

Hard crashes on Win2000
When used on a USB2.0 port on my Win2000 box it causes

useless crap at it's worst
This device simply refuses to work with my new IBM R51 under WinXP Pro. After searching the web (o boy, why didn't I do this before) I found out, I'm not the only one who has problems with it. Belkin doesn't mention this problems with one single word.

Don't waste your money on this crap!

Sometimes works, Sometime doesn't
I purchased this a couple of days ago, plugged it into my computer (Running Win2000), plugged in a couple of USB devices and everything worked fine. The next day I booted up my computer and it didn't see the hub or (obviously) the devices hooked up to it. I plugged and unplugged everything including the hub from the computer but it was like the hub didn't even exist. I rebooted the computer, nothing. I plugged in the power supply to the hub, nothing. I rebooted the computer again, nothing. I plugged and unplugged the hub and devices one more time, nothing. OK, I'm going to reboot the computer just once more before I take this thing back. And of course, this time it worked! So I unplugged the hub from the computer two times and when I plugged it in each time the computer recognized it and it worked fine. However, on the third time the computer would not see it and no cajoling was going to make it see the hub again.

While I have had good luck with other Belkin products, after reading reviews of similar problems here I'm taking it back for a different brand.

fix for Device failed to start 'Code 10' error
I also suffered from the "device failed to start" error.Fix was simple, I changed the registry settings according to what I found on another forum when I did a search for this error in google and and removed the card drivers in device manager, restarted the computer and allowed XP to reinstall the drivers.External USB drive was recognized and now works fine.

I found this page through google by searching so I'm hoping if I ever have this problem again I can find my post again by searching google again like I always do when I have a problem so in essence I'm helping myself ;)

Unlike the other reviewers...
Unlike the other reviewers, I have had a very positive experience with this hub.I plugged it in and it worked...at USB 2.0 speeds.It also looks sleek and is compact.I am not sure, however, how Amazon arrived at their price.I suggest checking your local major brick and mortar electronics superstore for this unit.You may be pleasantly surprised by the price difference. :-)

Simple setup .. clean operation
Apparently I purchased one of these after known issues were taken care of.It works just as advertised--2 ports are fine without DC power, but if you need to use 3 or 4, you have to use the adapter.The adapter is much less bulky than others I checked. The unit is very light; I just velcroed it to the side of my cabinet.I learned something minor about this-- had tried another compact hub before (Targus) assuming that when it said "FullSpeed" it mean 2.0 compatible."FullSpeed" refers to the faster capacity of USB 1--To get 2.0 compatibility the hub needs to say 2.0 compatible or High Speed.On the Targus I kept getting the "connecting USB 2.0 high speed device to USB 1.0 Hub" message from Windows XP.With the compact Belkin, I now get full performance. ... trouble with this card under Windows XP
Tried this card on my computer which is running with P4 and windows xp sp1.It is recognized immediately after i plugged it into a PCI slot without installing any driver, but it just doesn't work. I tried to plug in the flash driver that i normally use,it is not detected by the system.But it works find with original usb 1.1 port.By the time,i don 't know what magic it did to my computer,the second hard disk can 't be recognized too.As i noticed,the label of the hard disk was changed.Not sure if it is the coincidence,or simply the trouble it gave me.Will stay away from any product from IOgear.

swimmouse vendor
I bought this product from swimmouse at the market place.The shipment was prompt.And the USB card was in brand new condition.I have a windows 2000 professional PC.The installation was straight forward.

many users encountering problems with this card
After installing this card, it prevented my Compaq Presario 5423US from properly turning shutting down. Instead, it would restart my system to point where even hardware power offs would not work. After reading other reviews and doing some searches on various newsgroups, I know this probelm is not limited to Compaq computers. I purchased a GIC250U for another computer, and I have NO complaints/problems with that version. I highly recommend you NOT BUY this card.

Cause hang on G4 Mac
Installed this card on my G4 with 10.2.6.It works straight away without installing any driver for USB 1.1 devices.Then I installed the latest driver downloaded from IOGear web site and restarted my system.My system hang when I connected a USB 2.0 card reader to it.It consistently hang my system and I had to restart every time the system hang.I returned the card yesterday.

why does amazon.com still sell this product?
Here's what I got from tech support from IOGEAR:
