Works fine under Linux kernel 2.6...
I've used many Adaptec SCSI controllers over the years and had good experiences with them.So when it came time to buy a USB 2.0 adapter I decided to spend the extra few bucks and go with them -- plus this card comes with a 5 year warranty.

The NEC controller chip Adaptec uses on this PCI card works fine under Linux 2.6.6.Just be sure to enable both the ECHI *and* OCHI USB host drivers in the kernel.The OCHI drivers are used when USB 1.1 devices are inserted into this 2.0 card.I didn't realize this initially and thought there was something wrong with the card when I plugged in a 1.1 device and nothing happened.And, incidentally, if your motherboard has any built-in 1.1 portsyou'll probably need to include the UHCI driver as well since Intel/VIA chipsets generally use this older USB controller standard.

Linux 2.6.x is recommended for USB 2.0, but a recent 2.4.x kernel might also work if you're only trying to use USB mass storage devices.

I had the card installed in 5 minutes. Popped the case, installed the card and started the computer. XP installed the correct drivers and the card works great.

Painless Mac install
I needed to get a USB2 card for my G4 so I could run a couple newer USB2 peripherals at speeds that weren't coma-inducing.
I ran out and got this card, and it was as easy of an install as possible -- turn off the power, open the case, pop the card in, screw it in, close, reboot. Contrary to the product description, this adapter is not compatible with the Apple Macintosh with a USB port. I have an I-book G-4 that is Bluetooth enabled and it could not recognize the Kespan adapter (BT-A).

I emailed Keyspan for technical support and never received a response. Thus, I had to send this back to Amazon and lost $4.00.

Thank goodness for USB. Simple plug and play. Even a technophobe could install and even love this ease of insertaion and execution.

I ordered this cable as the recommended link between my old iMac and my new HP 1012 laserprinter. That recommendation solved my one small problem (and perhaps this is simply my perception) since there are still more options and alternatives then I can detect from the little pictures and descriptions on my ordering screen. As it is, I had one of these cables on hand in my box of cables, zip drives, software installation disks, telephone cables, and more. I've never had a problem with a Belkin cable, never.

The Jury is still out.
I bought this card for my Micron 1.2 GH Athlon based system running WinME. The on-board USB power supply craped-out on my motherboard and adding a card seemed a much simpler solution than replacing the motherboard.Based upon the other two reviews, I figured it was worth a try, especially considering the low price.

After installing the card yesterday and attempting to install the software I am still not running after several hours of troubleshooting.The documentation and software that comes with this card is minimal at best.There is also very little information on their website.I emailed tech-support with a detailed description of my problem tonight we will see if they are any help.

When I reboot the computer after installing the card, the system finds the new hardware, but after installing the software (drivers) and then rebooting, the system asks for a windows file "openhci.sys."Presumably this is a winME file but sofar I haven't been able to download an up-to-date file from Microsoft?

Couldn't be easier
I bought this because my Dell Dimension 8100 did not have any USB 2.0 ports, and my new iPod required it.It took me longer to get the top off the computer then it did to install the card.Ten minutes later, I had my iPod plugged in and was downloading to it WAY quicker than before with the USB 1.0.Great product.
