5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Value!
I love my Epson Powerlite S1. I use it regularly for PowerPoint presentations in office settings and as a big screen TV in our home theatre.

For PowerPoint it does a tremendous job, providing clean, crisp images. For home theatre the room can't be too bright in order to see all of the detail, but that's a small concession to make for a projector that offers ease of use, very good quality, affordable replacement bulb price, and enough power to get the job done - all for under $1000. Very tough to beat this deal!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome projector for the price.
I saw a review about this projector about a year ago on a tv show called screen savers, which airs on tecTv.They gave it a good review so i gave it a try,AN LOVED IT.I only bought it to watch dvd's on an it works perfect for that.I have a huge wall in one room of our house an simply painted the wall white an use it as the screen.A 20 foot screen no less. It's the ultimate hometheater, just add your surround sound an boom.No reason to ever leave your house for the movies again.Yes the lights do need to be low,or in my case i like it dark. But its got a great picture an more then worth the price. We've had nothing but fun with it ever since i bought. Its the perfect projector for those on a buget or for anyone that just dos'nt like to waste a lot of money on something like watching movies..............

4-0 out of 5 stars Good projector!
I purchased this projector two weeks ago and I am very pleased with it.When I connect it to my computer the image is very bright and I do not need to darken the room much at all to view it.The room needs to be a bit darker when viewing TV or DVD/VHS movies. My son uses it to play GameCube games--which is really fantastic because of the size of the image! However, for some of the games (Lord of the Rings) we really need to darken the room to see the screen well.

I have used LCD projectors for the past five years in educational settings. This is the first one I have purchased and I am extremely pleased with it.The only negative comment I can make about it is that the zoom feature doesn't change the size of the image by much.I wanted to set the projector on a stand near one wall and project it to the wall on the other side. When I do this the image is bigger than the wall space and I can't change its size by much using the zoom feature.Instead I have to move the projector into the middle of the room and operate it from there.Even with this inconvenience, I still think it is an excellent projector and so far I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see beautiful color images larger than life!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love mine.
How many people do you know who have 100inch tv's and paid less than $1000. I'm guessing not too many. I guess a picky person could find some faults: not as bright as a tv in a well lit room, no manual lens zoom, makes more noise than a tv. Still I really do love mine. It takes up about 1/100th of the space of a large tv, I can pack it in a backpack if I want to take it to a friend's, I can move apartments without hiring 5 movers to cary it down the stairs, I can play 4 person video games (Mario Kart Double Dash!) and everyone gets their own 50 inch tv, the colors are brilliant, and the price is decent enough.

Go buy one and you won't be unhappy.

5-0 out of 5 stars S1 Hit of the Party
This is a great product.

We had more than 250 digital photos submitted by our Harley Owners Group members to be used in a continuous-loop slide show during a recent party.

We mounted the S1 in a loft and projected the slide show onto a wall 25 feet away making a huge display of the photos. The S1 was on for more than seven hours, performed flawlessly, projected sharp images, was easy to hook up to a laptop computer (the source of the images). The simple operation of the S1 made set up and adjustments quick.

We later used the S1 in our living room to watch a DVD on a 70-inch movie screen. The projector was hooked into the video-out RCA jack on the DVD player. Total set up time: Less than 3 minutes. Again, flawless operation and extremely good picture.

I'd recommend the S1 to anyone looking for an entry level projector with seemingly solid construction, easy-to-understand controls and great features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing features and brightness
My practice has owned 3 Presentation projectors in the past several years (a Sony, a Viewsonic, and now this NEC VT460).The Sony is still one we use, ... and has 1200 lumens. We like it but its connectors are a bit limited and the remote is a bit finicky. The viewsonic was gotten rid of VERY quickly as it did not interact with the computer and the Viewsonic "service" was terrible. This NEC VT460 is absolutely the nicest inexpensive projector any of us at the practice have every used.Is it the smallest? No. Is it the brightest? No.Does it cost 1/3 as much as the others with its features? YES!... The picture (for SVGA) is as good as the Sony that cost us twice as much. The flexibility of being able to have S-video, component video, computer, and audio input from different sources all at once is wonderful. One of the nicest features is the "Eco" mode that drops the lumens to about equivalent with our 1200 lumen unit, drops the fan noise to almost nothing, and extends the life of the bulb by 2x (so NEC claims). The warranty is top flight at 3 years with "Instacare" 3 day replacement service. ... Amazon.com Product Description

LG's RD-JT91 DLP projector offers native 800 x 600 (SVGA) resolution and accepts inputs up to 1,280 x 1,024 (SXGA). Your projections will look sharp with both high brightness (an impressive 1,700 ANSI lumens in high mode and 1,300 lumens in normal) and dynamically rich in contrast (thanks to the projector's 2,000:1 contrast ratio). Capable of displaying digital and analog signals for integrated data, video, and audio presentations, the RD-JT91 proves itself flexible as well as capable.

The projector displays computer (RGB), NTSC, PAL, SECAM, and HDTV signals, offering everything from 15-pin D-sub computer inputs (PC or Mac) to a direct digital DVI-D interface and standard composite-, component-, and S-video jacks. For better format flexibility, the RD-JT91 also accommodates both standard (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) aspect ratios.

The RD-JT91 renders images anywhere from 30 to 300 inches in diameter, depending on your distance from the screen. Other features include zoom, digital keystone correction (vertical, +/- 15 degrees), a single 1-watt speaker, a digital camera filter, and picture freeze.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology uses an optical semiconductor, known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip, to digitally manipulate light. The chip contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors, each of which measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair. The RD-JT91 uses a single .55-inch DMD.

A DMD panel's micromirrors are mounted on tiny hinges that enable them to tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off)--creating a light or dark pixel on the projection surface. The bit-streamed image code directs each mirror to switch on and off up to several thousand times per second, letting the mirrors reflect pixels in up to 1,024 shades of grey. The white light generated by the lamp passes through a color wheel as it travels to the surface of the DMD panel, filtering it to create at least 16.7 million colors.

LG covers the projector itself with a three-year limited warranty; the lamp is warranted for 1,000 hours or 30 days, whichever come first.

Amazon.com Product Description

The PB6100 from BenQ is a digital light-processing (DLP) projector with a bright, accurate image and many useful features. Using a digital micro-mirror device with double data-refresh technology (DDR DMD), this model supports resolutions up to 1,280 x 1,024 (800 x 600 native resolution), while its high 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,500 ANSI lumens of brightness provide easy-to-see images even in well-lit environments.

HDTV compatible (480p, 720p and 1080i), the PB1600 has component (through VGA port), S-video, and composite video ports and supports NTSC, SECAM, PAL, and NTSC 4.43 video formats. A 31 to 250-inch image size allow you to adjust the projection to best suit your environment, while selectable 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios provide even more display options.

The PB6100 has a 1:1.2 optical zoom ratio and 10x digital zoom, and can be front, rear, table, or ceiling mounted. A picture-in-picture function allows you to display both computer and video projections on the same screen, and the remote control lets you control the projector from anywhere in the room.

The 200-watt UHP lamp has an approximately 3,000-hour lamp life (economy mode), while the optical engine lifetime is over 100,000 hours, ensuring brilliant projections for years to come. The 100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz power supply consumes a maximum of 285 watts during normal operation, while the 34 dB noise level won't drown out presentation speeches or conversations. The PB6100 accepts both PC and Mac inputs, and comes backed with a three-year limited warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars You are Warned!
Word of Warning. I purchased a BenQ projector and had it for a month before it started to fail and turn itself off.I sent it to BenQ for repair and have not recieved it back. That was over two months ago.I phone them every couple of days and get only lip service, they keep saying it is coming. So before you purchase a BenQ product think about the possibility of it getting repaired...or should I say never seeing it again.

You have been warned!

4-0 out of 5 stars Component cable for projector
Component DB15 to 3 RCA was a real problem to find out.
Online you can easily buy something around $200-400 but it
would be a waste of money. I found out only two options at the moment - buy a budget Steren 253-525IV cable ( 25' long) - price varies from $20 to $60 online , thus spend some time to shop around ,
second option was to build a custom made cable out of shielded Cat5e cable. Do not know which one would be a better one
for 25' run. Some people might try to use 3xRG6 cables - and
a short breakout DB15to3RCA/BNC cable

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pojector
I did a lot of shopping around for a projector on a budget. The Benq 6100 has been great so far.It is very easy to use and the menu is easy to navigate.I actually prefer the picture on the economy mode to any others. This is great because it extends the $400 lamp by 50%.
I have my theater set up in a 100% dark basement and the lumens are great. However I didn't have to add much light to see that you may not be happy if you can not control ambient light. The only complaint I have with the picture is flesh tones. They appear a bit green, but it is not enogh to be to distracting.
If you want to utilize this projector for HDTV be prepared to spend some extra money. You have to find (and good luck) a 15 pin to vga connection/conversion cable.I live in a fairly big city and had no luck finding one locally.I finally found one on ebay.A 25 foot length with shipping was about $50.This should be included with the projector but it is not.I would have rather paid $75 or $100 more at the time of purchasing the projector and not had the hassle of chasing down this cable! That is not to mention it delays you watching HDTV for a week or so.
Over all this is a great value. If you are in a budget and don't mind chasing the cable I spoke about I really recommend this projector.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK for the price but not great
I have this model and also the InFocus X1 model.Yellow colors are especially off on this Benq and you can't adjust red, green, and blue channels seperately. All you can adjust is brightness and contrast. Some folks wont notice this, but many others will.If you go to the BenQ website, they even mention that this issue with the color yellow is not fixable.

This issue is not apparent in the Infocus X1 or X2 models and in general the video output on them is superior tot he BenQ.

However those models dont support all of the HDTV resolutions that I wanted. The X2 model doesn't support 480i at all for example.

These are all fine for the price but just be aware that each model has several limitations.$1600 can get you a much better DLP projector if you shop carefully.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Simply Grand Entry into Home Theater
I recently purchased a refurbished BenQ 6100 from Tiger Direct for $749, and am very happy with it so far.The picture quality rendered from my Panasonic S47 progressive scan DVD player is excellent, especially with the Component Video-to-VGA (or "VESA") cable in use. With a pricetag of less than $1000, there is absolutely no reason to spend thousands more on a plasma screen TV whose viewing area is appreciably smaller than the 6100's typical projected image, and whose picture quality may not be appreciably better (than the 6100).

You just can't beat that "at the movies" feel of this projector, either. My wife and I relax with "Friday Night Theater" now, at the end of the work week. It's just a nice way to get close, share a big bowl of popcorn, and be romantic again!

Oh, and yes, I do see the "rainbow" effect from time to time, although my wife doesn't.It's too infrequent to be a significant source of distraction to me, and I just chalk it up to the developing technology. The 6100 employs a 3x speed color wheel.I've read that the 4x speed color wheel virtually eliminates rainbows altogether. When BenQ releases a projector with price and performance comparable to the 6100, but with the 4x color wheel, I would certainly like to try it.

If you have, and are willing to spend, the $1000 for a home theater projector, and your videophile tendencies are moderate (my downfall occurs in the realm of the audiophile), then the BenQ 6100 is "just the ticket."
