5-0 out of 5 stars Also get the SightFlex
If you have an iSight, you might also be interested in the "SightFlex", which is a flexible mount for the iSight and allows you to position it pretty much anywhere you want. It's really nice.It costs $20, but Amazon doesn't sell it.Just do web search for "SightFlex", and you'll find plenty of sellers.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 star camera, 5 star price
Fuzzy images and feedback. That's not what I expected with the iSight, but it's what I got. After months of holding off, researching and reading reviews, I finally purchased two iSights, the Cadillac of video cams."Like no other camera," the review says.As an avid Mac fan it pains me to say this, but I'd change that to "Like most other cameras."

When we took the iSights out of the box and installed them, my wife and I were very pleased with the ease of instillation.Plug and play.Simple.But there was noticeable microphone feedback on the sound. No problem, I thought--both iSights are in the same room.So the next day I took my powerbook and iSight to work.Same problem: An echoing feedback that you wouldn't expect from even a mediocre microphone. Also, we really had to speak up to be heard.

The other disappointment was with the picture quality.A little on the fuzzy side.Even when you reduce the viewing window, you never get a truly crisp image.Light helps image quality, but even under good lighting conditions the picture is grainy.

I am very pleased with the frame rate, which is snappy. It looks (and is) very real-time.I'm also happy with the size and weight of the iSight, as well as the carrying case that comes with it.And, of course, you can't beat free video conferencing, even if it's not everything you dreamed.

Note:The iSight comes WITH a mount for flat panel and laptop monitors.I've seen several review complaining that they had to buy the accessory kit to mount their iSight.Simply not true if you have a laptop of flat screen monitor.

Also untrue are any posting telling you that you need to purchase a $99 .Mac account to use the iSight. If you have OSX 10.3+ iChatAV is built in and ready to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars simply outstanding
all in all, this is absolutely the best solution i've found for video chat, and i've tried a few web cameras over the years. with its 50mm f2.8 lens my new isight's low light performance is superb. one complaint i've had with webcams from other manufacturers is their contrast in low light situations falls off, and the image picks up a lot of noise. not so with this little gem. it's also light weight, compact, and incredibly simple to use. plug in a single firewire cable and you're done.

what about the built in audio quality? that's right -- no independent mic required! i often video conference for my job and i bought a coworker one of his own. somehow the isight is able to keep two independent streams of audio going (on both sides of the chat) while still suppressing "feedback" loops, or echoing that occurs if ambient sound bleeds across into an incoming stream. even overlapping dialog is handled well. sometimes i'll play music from itunes in the background as we work and my coworker hears it just fine, but my voice still punches through in perfect balance.

apple has done a brilliant job with this camera, on every count, especially given the price. 3 cheers!

3-0 out of 5 stars check the picture
I just got my iSight today and guess what? I need to get the accessory kit to mount it on my flat panel display. If that requirement is in the above verbage I missed it, but the picture shows it happily on the top of the display. I'll add on to this once it's connected ( sitting under the display till UPS brings the accessory kit). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Installation Nightmare...
After reading the glowing reviews, I got this camera for my XP Service Pack 2 system (btw, an ASUS A7NX8-E Deluxe motherboard). Following the instructions, I attempted to install the software before plugging the camera in. In fact, I downloaded the latest software (v 8.4.6 build 1016A) from the Logitech website first. The initial attempt to install failed during the process to install the drivers. It loadedseveral files and then attempted to "Uninstall Device" (?!!?). The Logitech program it tried to run, DELDEV.EXE, died, generating a system warning (ie. "Device Removal Module Died! Send Report To Microsoft ?"). It then retries, dies, retries, dies, forever. Had to finally kill the install process in the Task Manager. Nice.

In looking on the Logitech Support website, they recommend doing a "Clean Boot Process" prior to install. This involves running the utility, MSCONFIG, and doing a "selective startup", turning off all Windows configuration files and all Windows Services and rebooting the machine. Jeez, I've never had to do this with any other software installation -- ever! Seems excessive and burdensome, especially for a USB device. But, I tried it. I had the same installation failure. I tried doing this again, but clearing out all temp files first (another suggestion). No go.

I've spent hours pouring over the Logitech Knowledge Base and User Discussion Groups. I haven't found a good solution. But I've seen lots of discussion of folks having problems with XP Service Pack 2. Some folks report success with XP SP2, but there are also a lot of folks having a frustrating time. Looks like the QuickCam software is not completely stable/reliable under XP Service Pack 2. Waiting to hear back from Logitech Tech Support -- but I'm not holding my breath for a speedy resolution.

I've just about given up. I went into the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs utility to clean up the *partially* installed QuickCam software. The Uninstall program for the QuickCam software dies with an exception in SetupDLL/SetupDLL.cpp(454) (ie. line 454 of the C++ code for SetupDLL). So I've got this crappy, half-installed software I can't clear out of my system. Gosh, thanks Logitech.

I know people are using this camera successfully and getting great results. But I can't get past the initial software install (haven't even plugged the camera in the USB port yet). I would recommend that anyone considering purchasing this camera for XP Service Pack 2 first visit the Logitech support website, and search through the Knowledge Base and the User Discussion Groups.

Disappointed, John

3-0 out of 5 stars Not very sharp
For close ups, this camera is fine, but forget the zoom.Very out of focus, even after turning the focus ring six ways from Sunday. It just doesn't get sharp.Maybe 5-8 feet is the maximum distance. Outside of that it's too blurry.I also have the $28 Webcam NX and it has a much better picture for distance shots.

The focus ring took some work to get it free. The rubber ring seems to get stuck on the plastic camera body.I managed to get some plastic under it and finally got it to turn, although it still isn't very easy.

The "Face Tracking" consists of zooming in and out to find the person. There isn't any movement of the camera body. For that you have to go up to the next level of Logitec cameras.

Color is very good and there are plenty of automatic and manual settings for light, background, color etc.

Two bases are included; one for hanging onto the laptop and the other for flat surfaces. Both have rubber bases to keep them from slipping. The laptop one is very durable and flexible so you can bend it to fit the edge of the screen or other vertical flat surface. They just snap on so it's very easy to change from one to the other.

If only it were sharper it would be a really nice camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice picture, bad mechanical
I am happy with the picture quality of this web cam. However, the mechanical leaves a lot to be desired

With one day of using it, the camera head started flopping around. Looks like the spring this is supposed to be holding the head on to the base is very weak and after pointing the camera a few times, it became very loose and there is no way to tighten it or adjust it.

I thought I just had a bad one so I exchanged it. When I got the new one home, I was as careful as I can be. But within one week, the same thing happened. It is obviously a mechanical design flaw. The worse part is that the USB cable attached to the camera head is long and thick relatively to the camera. With the camera head being loose, the cable now controls which direction the carmea points to.

This makes the camera almost unusable.

5-0 out of 5 stars novice is delighted
I am a novice web-cam user and I bought this one because of the good reviews here and was delighted. Though I can not offer any comparitive information, I can vouch for its simple set up and the miracle of being able to see and speak with someone via the internet. This cam has good visual and sound quality, I love it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars QuickCam not compatible Window Media Center Edition 2005 OS

1-0 out of 5 stars support service really bad
Not only it is very difficuly to setup the support service representatives have no incentives to help you. Be aware!

2-0 out of 5 stars Could not get wireless working
Great features for the price.Image quality is so-so but is as advertised. It worked great when using a wired connection. When I tried to connect using my AirportExtreme it was a no go.I tried everything.Removing security.Renaming the network. All I got was a flashing yellow light which makes trouble shooting pretty hard.Panasonic support tried to help but nothing worked. It is being returned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works fine on a Mac
Panasonic doesn't support it, but this camera, and all Panasonic Netcams, work fine with a Mac.To view full motion video, you must use Netscape or Firefox.Safari and IE will only allow you to view fixed images. No add-ons or active-x or other such nonsense is needed with Netscape or Firefox. The video just works.

As for setup, you will have to set this (and other Panasonic Netcams) up with a broswer, not with the automatic setup CD that works with windows. It's not difficult.Configure your Mac to use the built in Ethernet connection only, configured manually to IP address 192.168.0.5, subnet 255.255.255.0. Connect an ethernet cable between your Mac and the Camera (with a modern Mac any cable will do, with older ones you'll need a crossover cable.) Then access the camera at the address specified deep in the documentation (for this camera it's 192.168.0.253).The first time in you'll be asked to select a username and password.Do that and then you'll have full access to the setup utilities where you can change IP addrerss, DCHP, and other parameters. You can also setup the excellent free viewnetcam.com service and give your camera a real internet name. This is my third Panasonic Netcam, and I've been very pleased with them all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not good on a Mac!
First, I will say that this camera is great! The image is clear even in low light, and we found it pretty easy to set up with our Linksys wireless router.I did have a few questions and had an excellent experience with their customer service number--both times I got someone immediately who told me what to do.

However, customer service told me that this camera will not stream video to a Mac!The next best option is to have the image refresh every 3 seconds. It is better than nothing, but I felt mislead from the info provided on Amazon. It works great on our PC, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value, reasonable image
I have had my BL-C30A for about 2 weelks and overall I am satisfied with the performance. I agree with the reviewer who said image was not adequate for detailed surveilance. I would suggest you go to: http://www.securityideas.com/securitycam/demos.html to view and work an actual camera. I pretty well knew what I was getting. I use my camera as a weather cam and it is C+/B- for this purpose. Wireless setup and Internet access were quite simple, thanks to a good instruction manual. Three features that would have been nice are zoom, focus, and a date/timestamp on the images. I really didn't want to spend the additional money to get these features. I wrote an email to Panasonic regarding lack of a date/timestamp and got an automated reply 2 weeks later that didn't even address the question, let alone answer it, so D- for technical support. For the money, I suspect that this is as good as it gets. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great webcam for users looking for a notebook camera
Initially I was suspicios about the quality vs. the price but after purchasing this, I really love it. It gives very good image even in the dark places. I don't need any extra lighting arrangement. Even the still images are also very good. Before this, I had tried other webcams as well boht for PC and for my laptop and ended in returning them to the store, but this is the best image I have ever got.

The box provided along with the camera makes it handy to bundle it up with the laptop and take along. The stand is also well adjusted on the top of my laptop just the way I was looking for.

I think it is a very good buy...

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for the traveller
I've used this web cam for more than a year when I trave . It's perfect for the task, fitting into a small mesh bag with a boom mike headset. The supplied case protects it well.

In use, the supplied mounting is a bit of genius: it will hang happily and steadily from the several laptops I've used it with. Learning the technique of mounting it correctly may take a few moments to master. You are essentially seeeking the web cam's center of gravity. Judging from some of the reviews here it would seem some did not grasp that essential concept.

Image quality is good. Certainly not less than I would expect - but not anything more either.

For stationary user there are better choices. For the traveller, however, this is the best I've found.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and portable
I've had this webcam for about a year now and I haven't had many problems with it. Actually, I can't think of any problems I've had with it. The little arms allow me to easily manipulate the way it attaches to my laptop and the angle that it uses. You also have a limited ability to pan and tilt the camera through the software and have it automatically track your face. The image quality is pretty good and it functions surprisingly well in lower light conditions. It is quite small and packs up really well in the hard case. Overall, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better camera for your laptop.

1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe it will work for you. Maybe not.
This cam may work at one location, but not at others, depending on the environment. It was a problem to install right from the start and I spent several Sunday afternoons with un-installing and re-installing drivers, Windows "clean boots" and their like. Logitech online support provides only basic information. The driver software's "self healing" option is a joke. Proper support seems non-existent.
From forums on the Internet I learned that the drivers may not really be designed for Win2000 and that Logitech cams only support USB1.1 anyway. But even after purchasing a USB1.1 interface card the problems persisted. As an electronics engineer I finally managed to resolve the problem with a solder iron inside the webcam.
It works fine now - but Warranty void. Too much of my precious private time wasted. Very disappointing for cam at this price level.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
Worked right out of the box. Nice picture and easy to setup and use. I use it on AOL video messenger and it works well.
One thing to think about because I use it on my main computer not a laptop (I like the way it fits on my flat panel monitor) the USB cable was not long enough. I bought an extension for it and it worked out OK. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Full featured and worth every penny
Ok... so I did some research for IP cameras and I ended up buying the Panasonic. To my surprise, it performed above and beyond my expectations for a camera in this price range. You can setup remote viewing and even control it remotely. I tested the remote viewing in Switzerland and it worked beautifully. A bit slow on the refresh, but it was half way around the world.

I haven't tried multiple cameras but I will soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera, Excellent Value.
I purchased this network camera to keep an eye on our cats while we were vacationing and just to check in on the house.I was very pleased by the quality and ease of use the camera has.

Setting up the camera was very easy and I had no problems.

The camera's clarity is incredible for its price range, considering that it also pans and scans (with great range of motion).

Speaking to clarity, when the camera moves in any direction, the motors makes a little noise...Not obnoxious or anything, but curious cats had to come check it out each time we moved it while away.Using the snapshot ability on the camera, we got some of the best pictures of the 'kids' we've gotten from any camera when we were there in person.

The camera worked flawlessly - what a great way to ease your mind if you have good internet access where the camera is and where you'll be.

Highly recommended... I'm writing this review because I'm back to order another for different part of the house. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Just received my camera. Setup was a breeze.
I have not yet used the Dynamic IP service from Panasonic, but I think it will work fine as any other service of this type.

The automatic PnP function did not work trying to configure my Linksys router. A minor nuance if you do not know how to setup your router.

Image quality is very good, but not excelent. The camera has a little trouble working on the white balance, but the provided controls on the browser application let you adjust, so no problem here either. Again, image quality is way above webcams, better that other network cams on the price range, but below than higher ticket net cams.

A nice feature is that you can set up to 4 positions (there are five already preset: camera corners and home position), so you can easly go from checking the door to the desk, etc. in one single mouse click.

Althoug it is designed to be set on a fixed position, on my tests I hooked up to a mini-tripod. By accident, I pull the network cord making the camera fell to the hard floor from about 5 feet. Nothing happened to it.

For the price, it is a highly recomendable PAN/TILT Camera.

Enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby...
I am not an expert on webcams but I have done a lot of research. My main computer is a Windows XP machine but I wanted to view webcam images on my Mac Powerbook and cell phone.First of all, the price is right, about half the cost of a Toshiba camera I was thinking about.Set up was automatic with my Linksys router.Image quality is good and has several settings. It has some nice features that are easy to use.You have to play with the confusing buffer/transfer/email settings for a while so you don't get overloaded with email.Motion is often blurry. For Mac users, Safari and IE will not work on your free Panasonic web page.Firefox will.On my i500 Palm Smartphone, WebPro browser doesn't work but Blazer will.It works great with Snappermail too.So far, I am happy with my purchase even though it doesn't have sound, wireless, or weather resistance. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
The quality of this camera is -excellent- for this price range. I am quite satified with it. Still image captures come out clear and video captures are also clear and fast. As a webcam, I am impressed how fast it picks up movements. I use it on Yahoo messenger. Super-mode would turn on and the quality of the cam is lifelike. However, the downside about this webcam is Yahoo tends to crash once in awhile. It might be a different for other messengers with webcam features. It may be Yahoo that isn't working right and not the camera since it also kept crashing my old cam and pc. Another downside, is the camera tends to fall a lot. It does not clip well to the flat panel or notebook. It has a moveable base but is better placed on a flat surface. Other than that, if your looking for a good quality camera this would be a good one to consider. :)

2-0 out of 5 stars Software is useless!!!
I bought this camera to use for motion detection as an extra
security device at home to email me if motion is detected.
The jocks at creative have helpfully failed to include the option for smtp authentication so no email you try and send
will ever get through unless you have one of the rare few email
accounts where the smtp server does not require a password, if
you do it wont last for long.
[...]Aside from that the camera is good but I'd suggest getting another one with software that is useful because this is a big
feature.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comment on Creative Labs WebCam Live!
This is the third Creative Labs webcam I have bought. Compared to the previous ones (a first generation webcam and a more recent Pro eX), this one produces better pictures - brighter and better color rendering. It works well in low light environment. So as far as performance is concerned, I am pretty happy. However, if you're looking for a webcam that can be SECURELY mounted on your laptop, this one is definitely not for you. This webcam does NOT have a clip or a snap-on mechanism. It does allow you to put the webcam on laptop computer's display panel without falling off if the computer is on a leveled surface without any kind of movement. Even that is little bit shaky if the dispaly panel is thin (like my Dell Inspiron 700m). I give this webcam a 4 star instead of 5 mainly for this reason.

A note about installation (Windows XP with SP2):
This is not a big deal but I thought I would just share with everyone in case someone gets confused. Like other Creaive Labs stuff I have bought before (webcams and MP3 player), the installation procedure in the manual doesn't quite match what you actually experience. The manual indicates after you finish installing the software (drivers and apps), then you plug in the webcam and Windows will discover the hardware and you go from there. In reality, you will be asked to plug in the webcam before you finish the software installation and you never go through the Windows hardware discovery process.

4-0 out of 5 stars good deal, neat design, made in Korea
actually you can manually adjust brightness and contrastness, as well as gamma correction.
good picture quality,
a little bit slow caused by data conjestion ? via LAN connection, but where you can find USB2.0 at this price?
btw, I believe Koreans' made after I bought 3 iRivers MP3 players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for seeing loved ones.
I bought two of these cameras, one for myself and one for my parents that live in CA (I'm in WA).I moved away recently and wanted to see them more often than I can afford to fly. This camera does a great job and the mic works well too.

A previous reviewer said the video was blurry and slow, I am using MSN messenger and the problem is the broadband connection. When I used the camera on my home LAN to have a video conference between my laptop and desktop the image was great.Clear, smooth very little delay. When I use the camera to talk to my parents there is lag and fast motion causes blurring. To me this is acceptable. If I wanted to pay hundreds of dollars for a business class connection the image would be better but thats too much money.

The voice communication is pretty much equivalent to phone.Almost no delay and very easy to hear.As far as the echo the previous reviewer mentioned his speakers are probably turned up too loud.Every time you hear someone call into a radio station and the DJ tells them to turn down their stereo it is because their speakers are up too high and are causing an echo.If you use the mic in conjuction with headphones it works great.

For $50 I couldn't be happier with this product.MSN integrates flawlessly with it and so far it is all free. The voice quality is close to a dedicated phone line and cuts down on my long distance calls. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected
It was exactly what I expected. Delivered good quality pictures with good video stream. Makes for a lot of fun time online. And it's quite clear according to the other end. I would recommend this product if you're in the mid price range, it's not too expensive but there are cheaper models. I believe it's well worth the bang for the buck, and I give it a 4 out of 5 because there aren't 4.5s ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent for the money
As a first time webcame user I wasn't sure what to get.I went ahead and got the cheaper Logitech cam because the one that is above this one really isn't that much different. This camera is great for beginners and I've found the quality to be pretty decent. It's very east to use and set up and the bendable stand it has for flat panels and notebooks is very convienent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Deceptive packaging
I was looking for my first webcam and came upon this camera in a store. The front of the package clearly states that it is USB 2.0.A little checking around revealed that this was really not the case, the representative on Logitech's web forum said that it was USB 1.1 but would work on a USB 2 port and that was the reason it was marked as USB 2.Calls to Logitech's customer service and tech support had totally different results, I was assured by both that this was indeed a USB 2 camera.

I finally got down to the bottom of it with further checking with the USB standards organization, USB-IF.The logo on the package indicates that it is a USB 1.1 device, but Logitech has added "USB 2.0" underneath the logo. While one could easily dismiss this as a typographical error, the information that was relayed to me by Logitech on the phone would seem to indicate that there is an intent to deceive and confuse the consumer into believing that this product is a Hi-Speed USB camera when it is not.

1-0 out of 5 stars Quick Cam communicate STX
I bought this web camera and it works great send email video's sound and picture were great had fun using it, then I went to use my printer and it would not work said it did not reconize my computer so took the camera off and printer worked so then loaded the camera again and still the same thing so cannot use this camera with my printer unless I do not want my printer to work, Could someone who maybe had the same problem help me out.
Thanks so much PAT

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful quality

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Mac
I received this as a gift, and this camera sucks.Despite the description, this camera does not work with any version of MacOS X greater than 10.2.6.Thus, since I have 10.2.8, this is an expensive paperweight.Coincidentally, the camera and Mac 10.2.8 were both released in Sept. 2003 and Logitech has not updated the driver since then.Their tech support is absolutely useless as well and completely unhelpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good webcam with some nice features
I've had this webcam for almost a year now and I've never had any problems with it. Make sure you install the software BEFORE you plug in the camera or else it could cause some problems (I'd recommend downloading the newest drivers directly from Logitech's website rather than using the CD).

The image quality is as good as any other camera in the price range, but it operates better in low light conditions than most. The face tracking is a neat little feature but I don't end up using that often. From my experience, it seems to work by tracking the area in the frame that reflects/emits the most light. This generally works, but it also means that the cam is sometimes confused by bright areas (like overhead lights) so it tends to graduallyshift higher and higher until it's pointing near the ceiling and you have to reset it to its "home" position. I still think its functionality is useful even if you don't let it auto-track your face because it allows you to pan and tilt the camera quite a lot without having to take your hand off of your mouse.

To tell the truth, the biggest reason I probably purchased this particular camera was because of the way it sits on the stem. I don't like having the camera in a high position (like on top of the monitor) because then it just looks down on the top of my head at a weird angle. I don't like it down on the desk because it creates another odd angle looking up at me. When it's on the stem it brings it up to just below eye level, which is about the perfect height for using while on the computer (like while instant messaging).

Is it worth the money? You can get a pretty good camera for less. Even the same Logitech webcam without the stem and pan/tilt stuff (the QuickCam Pro 4000) costs about $30 less... but having those features was worth the extra cost to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a Little Finicky, but not a Bad Camera
This is my first webcam and I bought it at Sam's club. The first one I bought must not have pleased its buyer because it was a return and the software was missing. So, I took it back and got a new one.I have to say that it did not live up to my expectations immediately.I bought several new items at the same time and needed a USB hub to get them all installed. My first problem was with the hub.For some reason, there were problems with the items plugged into the hub getting recognized, so with a little trial and error, I finally decided to plug the camera directly into the computer and that solved that problem, although the camera is not the only device that is finicky about where it is plugged in.

Now, the image quality is not spectacular, but I think it is good enough. The tilt and pan mechanisms work perfectly, but the face-tracking is not without some problems, but mostly it works pretty good.Lighting is the key.Sometimes, the camera gets confused and thinks the light in the kitchen is my face.Sometimes it focuses on a drawing of Chesty Puller in my living room, but if I get the lighting right and give it a little help finding my face, it follows me around pretty well as I swivel around in my chair as I talk.

I paid $110. for this camera, which I admit is a little steep, but despite some set up problems, it performs as advertised.Oh, I have had the camera for about a month and I am not a computer wizard.I give this camera four stars. It isn't perfect, but neither is anything else in this world, but if you give it half a chance, it will do what is supposed to do and impressively so.Also the camera can be controlled with the mouse so that even if it gets lost or is little slow catching up, you can give it a little nudge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Webcam
I'v been using this cam for almost a year on my Win XP Home Edt. PC. Set up was super easy, I got the cam hooked up in 5 minutes.
Video quality is excellent, even under dim light conditions; so is the picture quality. I'm using the cam with both MSN and Yahoo Messenger- works perfectly. People tell me the video quality is superb and streaming is very good (I'm on a highspeed cable connex).
I never had any probs with either the zoom or the pan/tilt function.
I give it 4 stars b/c face tracking is indeed flawed and needs improvement. I don't use this feature though.
Overall this is a great product and worth the purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just got my money back at Sam's Club
I read all the reviews and decided to gamble on the Orbit. I assumed I would have problems with it and I was right. I'm quite an expert adding equipment to computers but it took me about three hours to get my Dell XP to recognize it and it would go through it's demo motions just fine but little else. Then it lost it's vertical motion. It never had the face recognition ability. I tried everything I could think of but I could only get it to move horizontally. I followed the instructions to the letter and I tried their help center which leaves a lot to be desired. Finally I downloaded new drivers which took four hours (26500 modem speed) and nothing changed. It's now back at Sam's Club in the reject pile. I never had a webcam before and I decided today I don't think I need one. At least not until someone makes one similar to the Orbit that really works. I figured it was just too good to be true. Wake up Logitech!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Software Conflict
I purchased the Creative Labs Live Ultra WebCam VF0060 for my home PC. Unfortunatley, it would never give a video picture. I phoned Creative Labs and their Tech. support people indicated a conflict with Haupauge WinTV. The only choice offered was to delete the WinTV software or return the webcam to Amazon. Before I chose to return the webcam, I tried it on my daughters laptop that does not have WinTV loaded. The video and audio feeds where excellent. The moral: If you have WinTV loaded on your computer, this isn't the webcam for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally impressed
I only wanted to spend 50 bucks for a webcam, and I saw this Creative Labs Live! line. I actually intended to buy the regular Live, and not the Ultra, based on what people were saying. When I got to the store, though, all the info people kept raving about was mostly actually details about THIS camera, that they had confused with the more basic version. I haven't used the Live! but I can tell you this is worth the price so it's certainly worth the difference in price.

Not only is it quick and easy to install but the picture quality is great. For some people at high-res video it might be a little grainy (colored noise I mean) but it's nothing you pay attention to. The thing that surprised me is you can EDIT the video with sliders! Color saturation, gamma, contrast, etc... like the basic Photoshop of video, even while the feed is taking place. Comes with a cute headset, plenty of options and file formats. It even looks cool. This feels ritzy to own, but because of how functional it is, and how good it is at doing what it's supposed to. Pleasantly surprised, and glad it worked out this way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice !!!
Got this webcam from Compusa for less than $30.
The installation was a breeze (Installsoftware
and plug in the webcam to the usb port).

Great picture quality. I am using this with Yahoo Super Cam.
Works great !!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Just fine for home use
I've checked out several webcams for under $30 and this one is among the best. The video image is clear and also captures all the back parts of the room very well.

There is a low light boost, backlight compensation, and color boost - among many other settings.Playing with the settings will result in the desired quality. The performance in low light is easily adjusted via the webcam settings. However, in very low light - using just the monitor in a dark room for example - the image is too dark.I figure this is the same for almost every webcam in this price range.

I enjoyed using the "Motion Sensor" for recording video clips of any movements when I am not present.Since the webcam is on my desktop, there is not much practical use as a security camera - but it does captures all parts of the room (25 feet) with very good resolution.

It works well with MSN Messanger 6.2 - both over a local web and across the USA.I use a cable interface to access the internet.

I just bought a second one and had Amazon ship it to my dad.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rough around the edges...
Yeah, this camera is good if you don't want awesome webcam quality across the net.And the picture sucks with Yahoo! but it looks pretty decent over MSN Messenger on a DSL connection. However, I have to put a lamp up near my monitor to be able to see myself because the light on this thing is terrible.Otherwise, its not too bad for the price.Myself, I'm taking this back to target ASAPand buying something of better quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best investment.
Believe me, you don't need to spend over $30 on a webcam nowadays(mainly because of the bottleneck of network speed, I am using DSL...). This labtec webcam pro fits perfectly your everyday use. When using with msn messenger, both the pic and sound quality are good but when it comes to yahoo messenger, the motion frames lag behind a little bit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what it is supposed to
I bought the camera because of it could be put on any screen, and its low price. I've not regretted that purchase. The camera has performed to perfection so far. It was easy to install. I've tried on to different laptops and it worked great on both. What may be a drawback for some people that move around with the screen is the fact that it's not attached to screen but just sits on top of it. But that has never been a problem for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best webcam for the money
It was the best webcam I have ever purchased. The picture is very clear and bright even with poor lighting. The only problem would have to be the base.It is not very solid and does not mount well on the monitor.I had best results when I mounted it on top of my speaker.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't load the Software on my Sony VAIO XP laptop
The installation process hangs on 5%, it doesn't install. I tried two different installation software CDs with same result. Also, I had a very bad experience dealing with Creative customer services.

However, I bought Creative's - WebCam Live model for my sister a month ago. It works very well. So, I have had good and bad experiences with Creative products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just something I want...
I bought this webcam for 29.99 after a $20 rebate. I try to compare with the other webcam from logitech and other brand. Finally, I settled with this creative nx pro. If you're patient enough, there will be somekind of rebate once in awhile.

I've owned it for more than three months. And, I really have to say, compared to other friends who owned logitech or any other webcam which is of same price, this creative nx pro really stands out from the rest. Though it's 15fps compared to other which is 30 fps, with its price and its quality of picture, it's a product that worth to recommend to friends and family.(This product is just amazing! My friend can even see the pimple on my face clearly!)

I have a laptop. I cannot decide whether I should buy a webcam designated for notebook computer or this. But, I read some other reviews that it will work well on laptop computer. And, IT'S TRUE!I clipped it in the middle of my laptop screen, it just fits right. So, don't worry if you're buying this for your laptop.

There's only two things that I noticed which I don't quite like about it. The mic doesn't really look nice, and I really don't know where should I stick it. But this is not really a problem for me as my laptop have an internal mic. The next is about the lightning. There's certain range that the webcam will show very good lightning under very dim room. However, there are sometimes when it did not really adapt to the right lightning. During this time, maybe you just have to adjust the distance between your face and the webcam. The automatic lightning control will do the rest.

For the quality of picture this creative nx pro can provide, this is definitely worth the money! You should really include this in your shopping list if you want a good quality picture but not something too expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor product, terrible software
I am quite computer literate and tried this product under both Windows 2000 and RedHat Fedora Core 3 Linux.
Win2K install is relatively easy. The webcam is so so if your light level is poor, but I would expect that from a webcam. Now the software that comes with it is horrible. I crashes randomly, sometimes after just 3 seconds!
Now is you want to try it with Linux, tough luck, as this webcam manufacturer didn't give away any driver or documentation to people willing to make a driver. Definitely not supported.
I would not buy that camera again and you should definitely try another manufacturer. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars POS
I second the first reviewer's opinion. This is a total piece of sh*t.First I had trouble getting it to work on my WinXP desktop. After a couple reboots it finally worked, and the image quality was a total joke, even in the webcam capacity. The video quality was visibly worse than my 5-year-old Logitech webcam which had cost me about the same amount at CompUSA five years ago.In the end I returned this POS and will keep using my Logitech until it dies.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
I guess for the price this isn't a bad webcam, but don't expect much. Images are very blurry and if you plan on using this webcam to take pictures as well, don't even bother. The quality is so poor that it is embarassing to share the photos with others. I was expecting more, considering the webcam display on the box is as clear as can be! Spend the extra money and get a good webcam. Don't waste it on this junk. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CCD makes a difference
Face-tracking~wide-area view, etc. is all fine but the essential component of this unit is it uses CCD (charged coupled device) rather than a CMOS. This makes a HUGE difference to (a) clarity of picture (b) Exposure.
In layman's terms - CCD-devices are the de facto standard in every handy-cams/video-equipment in the market today. CMOS is nowhere a match to CCD in terms of quality/resolution/contrast & hue.
I have done a through and in-depth search of other options available applicable for personal/home use within this price-range and found NONE using CCD.
The additional features - digi-zoom and face-tracking is a DEFINITE plus at this cost - in fact again found very few alternatives at this price-range.
One can always check the support site - through the software itself for upgrades/patches/etc.
For a cost-consious buyer who wishes to purchase a web-cam primarily for their near-and-dear ones - this is a terrific buy.
The only caveat: Wish this camera was USB 2.0 compatible!

5-0 out of 5 stars great followup to older models
I had/have the Pro EX model and this NX Ultra holds onto the top of the notebook computer much better. The colors are very warm and image is SHARP.
I've used it on Yahoo and AIM chat clients with no issues as of yet.
Reviews mention that landscaped picture is not sufficient in 1 on 1 video conferencing. Not necessarily true. Yahoo has a setting in the webcam that allows for zoom. This setting held over into AIM's viewing session as well.
Extremely reasonable pricing, which is why I've been buying Creative for the last 2 years. The sale prices(...)and quality of the item is a great impression of the company overall.
I'm very happy with this NX Ultra purchase.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not an easy setup
I purchased this camera for my in-laws, with the intention of using it to share video when our first-born arrives. Their machine is a new Dell, running Windows XP, broadband (cable) connection, and AIM 5.9. Everything sounds good so far, right? Well, after spending fruitless hours trying to alter firewall settings on the router, XP and ISP, and talking with customer support from AOL, D-Link and Creative, I was never able to get the camera to work with AIM 5.9. AOL does suggest opening all firewall ports 1024-5000 (which seems to be a bit of a security issue). Regardless, I had to return this Christmas present, and my father-in-law later bought a Logitech camera, and had it running within minutes, with no alterations to any firewalls (i.e. his computer is still safe and secure). Why give it 2 stars? The camera WAS working in its native application and in Yahoo Messenger, and the video looked OK; however, my goal was to use this camera with AIM (as stated on the product), which never happened, and will be required to see our newborn since we have a Mac with iChat AV. So, if you want to chat with AIM (and with a Macintosh on the other end), either buy a Logitech camera, or convince your entire family to buy Macs :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up
We use this camera to show our kids to grand parents in another country and overall I am extremely satisfied with the product.

Good: Some complain about the wide angle making the face look too small, but if one enables face tracking, camera will do a good job of focusing on one's face. This feature is based on digital zoom, so the image quality will suffer a bit, but this won't make much difference in video conferencing. In fact I like the wide angle feature since our daughter moves around a lot and I can have face tracking follow her to spaces where other cameras can not. Surely face tracking time-to-time fails to track her movement but it is better than holding her in front of the camera or constantly adjusting the camera pointing her.

Image quality in low light is supreme. I've used several CMOS based camera and also Digital Camcorders as webcams and NX Ultra's image quality can par up with Digital Camcorder connected to firewire port.

Bad: Lack of integrated microphone. I wish they had included this on the unit it self, then again a head set is included, which is pretty decent.

5-0 out of 5 stars great cam
very nice view, zooms itself, follows your face a very smart cam.
its good at white and bright light, needs to be adjusted at dim light or low freq lights. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate.Just adequate.
This is a wireless internet camera, which means that it can send images, without a direct wired connection, live over the internet using a built-in web browser. It's about half the price of the Toshiba IK-WB01A, and that's about right.I own both. The DCS-900W has far better wireless range, which is what you would expect from D-Link.But the visual quality is very poor in anything less than direct sunlight (it requires 2.5 lux!), even in bright light it's not very good or vibrant, there's no remote pan-and-scan, no audio, and the camera CPU seems quite slow. The software is fine though, perhaps better than Toshibas, except that you must load a CD to set it up initially.

So for the money it's fantastic.Since I bought it to aim at the puppy's kennel, it will be fine. We'll be able to see him in there. But you really do get what you pay for.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent for price
I like this camera for the price, but it's not perfect. It is very noisy in low light and did crash on me once so far. But I do like the IPLite software. However, I wish you could view the video feed in a resizeable window instead of full screen. I do like the fact that you can get an image using http://camaddress/image.jpg. No super fancy features keep this camera simple and more reliable than some of the "more advanced" (and more unreliable) ones. But I did not use the wireless feature, a feature that could be prone to problems. Mine is hardwired, even though I have the wireless enabled version. I did buy two more of these cameras because I liked them enough, so that says something.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Compact Camera with Wireless Capabilities
I enjoyed the ease of which this camera can be setup with. Basically I followed the setup guide and everything went smoothly. I also recommend the latest version of IPView from D-Link's website as it has good features.

The quality is fine for what I need it for, but don't take that as in the quality is bad, but do-able. I can see where this camera would be called mid quality since it doesn't have the *best* quality in picture, but it sure does beat most webcams.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eventually became a usable platform
I had quite a lot of trouble with this camera at the beginning. The range of the camera seemed ridiculously limited and the camera seemed to fritz out on a regular basis for no apparent reason.

After downloading the firmware update for this camera and installing it, the flakiness disappeared, but the limited range remained a problem.Basically it could not be more than a couple of feet from the wireless access point and still work. After much frustration with this, I finally decided to CAREFULLY open up the camera to see if I could find anything that was obviously wrong with the electronics inside.

I'm glad that I did!I found that the wire from the antenna had become disconnected from the circuit board (or never was connected at the factory). The snap-on connector at the end of the antenna lead is extremely small and weak and the cable from the antenna is fairly rigid, so any amount of jarring of the camera could cause the connector to pop-off of the circuit board.

D-Link should have used something to tie-down the cable to the circuit board to prevent the connector from popping off.

Well, I carefully popped the snap-on connector for the antenna lead back on the circuit board and VERY carefully reassembled the camera.

Voila! The camera now has excellent WiFI range!

The IPView Lite software that comes with the camera and that you can get an upgrade for from the D-Link web site is not reliable on Windows 2000.It crashes all of the time.It seems to be more reliable on Windows XP.I suggested to the developers that they release the IPView Lite to Open Source so that people could work on it to improve its reliability. No response.

Now that I've worked out all of the glitches, I can recommend this camera.Be aware that some after purchase tweaking may be required.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great product (for the price)!
I didn't buy this camera at Amazon.I was a little leery of any sub-$300 wireless cam, so I scored it at a local retail outlet at a 20% premium.

It doesn't have much in the way of features (via web interface): snapshot, Java video Applet, and some ActiveX atrocity that I'm not willing to test.

This camera is fantastic! It's small, easy enough to set up, and performance is fine and dandy.(...) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Surveillance Camera on the Market
This camera has to be the best available option for office/home surveillance system on the market.I have 4 camera's at home and recommended them in the office, and now using 2.With my networking background, set up was less than 15 minutes.Loaded with features, this camera hasn't yet failed my needs.I able to watch the neighboors peak around my place and even look into windows.I highly recommend this camera.Price is high but once you get it running the product out weighs the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Camera with Ro-Bitchen Features!
This thing is like a little robot eye. I can pan and tilt and digital zoom all from a web browser on my networked PC. The image quality is good, the wireless range is good, the features are quite robust, and it even looks good.

You can mount it upside down and have it flip the image it sees, thus still showing everything "right side up". The digital zoom was added with a firmware upgrade. The price is a little daunting, but if you are going to put it to good use I think you would enjoy this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Top Quality Camera with Awesome Features!
I like this camera very much. I wish there was more documentation on it though. I want to know what every setting does and how it does it. I want to build programs/PHP scripts that "interact" with this camera and allow for image archiving or other neat little features. But I haven't found the time to research all that.

Installation of this camera was fairly simple, although a little bumpy getting the wireless to work right. But in the end I got it working just fine, and it's stable now. The features this camera does have blows a lot of other cameras out of the water. There is the Dynamic DNS, which I use all the time, the FTP uploads which are great, and the pan and tilt all at this price are wonderful features.

I'd suggest going to D-Link's product page for this product and clicking on the Emulator link as that is where you can get a feel for the interface of this product. It is neatly laid out and gets the job done as far as minimal clicks goes. Nothing is deeply hidden, and everything is accessable in about 3-4 clicks max.

3-0 out of 5 stars DCS-5300W not stable enough for monitoring
I finally got my DCS-5300W to work after upgrading to the most current firmware (v1.04) but the camera still keeps hanging just about every night. It is also constantly doing network reconnects. This makes the camera useless for a surveillance device but it is a great toy!DLink's support isn't any help either. It would be nice to talk to someone who has even seen a picture of the camera!Seems the support people have a script to follow and if that doesn't fix the problem, then tough luck. You bought it and they don't give refunds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and is Stable after Firmware Upgrade
I just upgraded my camera to the new 1.03 Firmware on D-Link's support site and the camera works better for me. I don't get the random freezes or disconnects anymore. I liked the camera before, but now it's just generally more responsive.

I too use this to monitor/watch my kids while they are at home and I am at work. The ports you need to open on your firewall/router to view this camera across the internet are 80 and 5001-5003. That's a total of 2 (two) rules you need to set. No big deal. Again D-Link's support page walks you through this quite easily.

The digital zoom feature is a nice touch, which was a free upgrade via firmware. Overall I believe D-Link has outdone themselves with a camera of this caliber. Although the new DCS-5300G sounds better just because it uses the 802.11g protocol for faster wireless transmissions. Although wired is fine for me, and I got this 802.11b camera for cheaper on eBay than I could find the wired version. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a durable camera
I am an electronics freak, and I never buy an Item until I'm sure about the manufactures standards. Well Sony has been around for years and their higher standards and customer satisfactions have been proved over this time. So after looking up different web cameras for my laptop I decided to purchase this rather costly camera. This camera had a very sleek design and good quality. It's built in microphone answered most of my needs for a visual communication device. But after 8 months I started receiving a noisy picture, with some fixed dots across the screen, and it started getting worse and worse everyday until the screen became completely dark. I never saw any pictures coming up after that but a few times and those images were of a very poor quality and they disappeared immediately. Since then it was mostly a black screen with horizontal lines across the screen moving up and down. So I decided to call Sony and ask for help. I swear god I spent 3 hours on hold and were switched and shipped from this department to that department, and nobody seemed to be trying to actually help me with my problem. They eventually gave me a repair confirmation number and I sent the camera to Sony Regional Repair Center in San Diego. My camera was repaired and sent back to me in 2 weeks without any charge (because I had a one year warranty on it). The camera worked great after that for about 2 months, but again it started acting in the same way and was driving me crazy. So I called Sony and received a new repair confirmation number. I have just sent my camera back to San Diego to be repaired for the second time.
If you want a durable camera DO NOT buy this camera. I have a Sony VAIO laptop, Sony Digital Camera, Sony Camcorder, Sony Video CD/DVD player, Sony digital sound recorder and a Sony mp3 player, and I have never had any problems with those devices. I have always believed in Sony's capabilities in satisfying the market's needs, but this web camera put a stop sign on my next purchases from Sony.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent cam for price, beware toshiba owners...
My parents really like us having this cam as they can see their only grandchild on a regular basis.Yes, the lighting is an issue, but I just move a lamp over near my baby (at night) or open the shades (during the day) so they can see him clearly.Don't expect DV Cam resolution, etc.as you're only paying $31.99 after rebate.I think too many of these reviewers don't factor in the price and expect way too much for their money.

Note to Toshiba (i.e. Satellite) notebook owners. The screen on the laptop is curved at the edges which makes it much more difficult for this to remain well clipped.I'm constantly adjusting mine and wish the clip clasped a little further down on either side of the screen.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible image quality, even in typical lighting conditions
Just returned this webcam.Has terrible image quality, especially under low light conditions.Well, I would say even in average or typical lighting conditions, the imaging is still quite dark and noisy.Too bad, because I think they got the form factor right on this model.

3-0 out of 5 stars what choice do i have?
i'm thinking of buying this notebook webcam, but i'd rather buy the nx pro.i bought one when amazon.com sold it for $39.99. now they don't sell it at all.i finding more and more products are not being sold by amazon.com but by other companies which is frustrating.

this camera is reviewed as bad with resolution but what choice do i have?it's either buy logitech which are expensive or buy a creative labs camera that marginally acceptable.

amazon.com i feel like i don't have any choices when you don't stock your webcams and other items.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great form factor, lousy performance.
I give it 2 stars for design and zero for performance. The physical attributes of this unit are great - rock solid mounting bracket, small size, moderate cost. Unfortunately its performance is terrible - low res, bad color reproduction, lousy low light performance. A mobile user will likely encounter many sub-optimal lighting situations and this camera isn't up to the task. Avoid this model unless you absolutely need the tiny form factor and don't care about image quality. ... Read more
