1-0 out of 5 stars Rampant Clogging Problem
I'm about to receive my 2nd replacement CX6400 from Epson.Once the print heads clog (which is common w/ the Durabrite inks), you often cannot unclog them.Avoid.

1-0 out of 5 stars 05.16.05 - Another CX6400 Dies
This is just another independent review supporting what's already been said about this all-in-one machine, the Epson CX6400.The print nozzles clog after a year or so and the printer is rendered useless.I just put in new ink cartridges and have cleaned them numerous times (10X or more at this point) with the same results...no print on the page. The cartridges are 1/3 to 1/2 empty at this point and it appears there's no hope that the situation will improve.HP, I'm coming back home.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's the INK stupid...
I really liked this all-in-one BUT it's costing me a fortune in ink.I've owned two other printers before and both were "lesser models" that gave me more for my money - this eats up ink like it's the hungry tree in Little Shop of Horrors, and each cartridge (there are four) is between $25 and $33 and to choose only "black ink" requires two extra steps every single print job.I can't believe the issue isn't the hardware - that it's the INK that makes this purchase a major regret!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy it
I owned this printer for only 5 months before it stopped printing clearly. Now I have to clean the printer heads several times before even printing one page or it is smudged or too faint to read. Cleaning the heads sucks the printer cartridges dry, so I have to buy a new one every week almost. I will give up on this printer and buy a laser printer. It is such a piece of junk that I wanted to write this review to warn others. I've never written a review of any product before this. I would give it no stars if they offered that option.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ink issues will eat you alive
Some things which WILL happen with this printer:

Your print heads will clog. Each time you clean the nozzles you'll use about *1/8th* to *1/4th* of all your ink.Seriously.

Cleaning the print heads eventually won't work, and you'll have horrible banding which won't go away.

The ink goes SO fast it will make your head spin.Oh, BTW, that cleaning above (which will only work when the printer is brand new) costs you about $10 in ink EACH TIME you do it.

Even though the inks are seperate, if you run out of even one color you won't be able to print in black.Period.

When it tells you your ink is out and you go to replace it, you're horrified to find that there is still a decent amount of ink in the cartridge, but the cartridge has a computer chip which won't let you refill or re-use it no matter how much ink is still left.

Epson tech supports, well, SUCKS.Be forewarned, and avoid all Epson printers.

I had a C82, which seemed decent at the time, but it gobbled up ink, and began to have paper feeding problems which refused to go away.I though the All-in-One would be better.Nope.Worse.

I just bought a Canon PIXMA.AMAZING photo quality - their 4 (and 5) ink systems rival the 6-8 ink systems from Epson.Seriously.And the ink lasts WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY longer.

You've been warned... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good printer - not so good scanner.
I have had my DCP-8040 for a week now.I wanted a laser printer, and I'm quite satisfied with this unit's printing abilities and speed. Its a great improvement over a cheap inkjet in every way, except for the lack of color - but I didn't have any particular need for color printouts.

But the feature that drew me to this unit was the 14-inch scanner on top.I would have bought a stand-alone printer if the scanner didn't tempt me.I have a standard scanner that I picked up for $20 at a sidewalk sale last year, and it works well.I bought it to scan my japanese laserdisc jackets (which are a little more than 12x12 inches). In order to scan the jackets with my old scanner, I had to scan each cover four times and then assemble the pieces.I thought with this new scanner I could cut that in half. But the scanning software Brother has provided leaves a LOT to be desired. For starters, you can't use the full plate. There is thus about an inch of glass that the scanner light covers, but cannot be accessed. That wouldn't be so bad, but except that its on BOTH edges! In other words, instead of placing what you want to scan in the corner along two edges, like with a normal scanner, you have to center it, carefully, by hand, along the exact center of one edge. Also, for some reason, my two scans are skewed way off somehow, such that if I try to blend the images together there are clearly missing portions along the sides, meaning I have to scan in four parts to get everything, and since this scanner doesn't scan any faster than my old $20 one at 300dpi, I've spent an extra $100 for nothing.Oh, also, my old scanner would turn the light off after a few minutes of inactivity. This unit's light is on AT ALL TIMES, unless you power the whole thing off.Cute.

So, my advise - skip this unit and go with a stand-alone Brother printer. And somebody else's scanner. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok machine, terrible software and support
HP's OfficeJet 7110 all-in-one looked great initially: a reasonably priced machine that prints in color, scans in color with a sheet feeder, copies, and sends and receives faxes. However, four problems arose in practice.First, color printing is often of poor quality because the colors don't quite line up.The 7110 has a feature to automatically align the colors, but this is a pain to use (it involves many steps that sometimes fail to work so you are led through the cycle several times) and sometimes does not help.Second, Macintosh OS X users may experience software problems. At first I could print sometimes, with reboots often fixing an inability to print, but for months now I have been unable to print at all.(I can print on another printer, so the problem is in the 7110's software.)HP's website acknowledges the problem but apparently does not provide a fix.Third, also on OS X, the scanning software has a bug so black-and-white scans take 8 times as much disk space as they should.Fourth, HP's technical support people invariably made excuses instead of resolving problems or submitting bug reports. For example, they found a brochure saying the 7110 scans in color with no mention of black-and-white, and therefore told me black-and-white scans are not supported, despite that their own software has a black-and-white scan button.Overall, I do not recommend the HP 7110 all-in-one for anyone.Windows users may suffer less than Mac users, as two of the four problems mentioned above may not affect Windows users. And eventually, the HP 7110 may be a better proposition, if HP fixes its software problems and overhauls its customer support. But for now at least, I would look for a maker other than HP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Such poor quality
Purchased 2 of these, for business use and deployment into our CEO's home/office environment, and all looked fined until it came time to test the scanning function and in particular from the ADF which is where the problems started.

The "Director" software just wouldn't work, multiple pages would scan ok as far as previewing them but come the stage you try to save them or send them to Word, up pops an error indicating you need to reinstall the scanning software due to a library not being found.

Using the "Scan to" function on the front panel of the device seemed to fair a little better but soon discovered, on a multiple page scan to Word, only the first page scanned fully and each subsequent page was only partially scanned with the results nicely overlaid on a single page in word just to add to add to the problem.

I attempted to get these issues resolved via emailing HP support over the next two days which is better than hanging on the phone as experienced my many reviewers I guess but the end result was still the same...i.e. no resolution. The support followed the lines of re-installing the software, cleaning out the registry, loading the previous version of the software from the website, updating the print-head firmware (an odd one to fix a scanning issue I know) etc

The machines/software were tested on 2 x WinXP and 1 Win2k platforms and in all cases had the same problems with the scanning function.

All its other functions appeared to be ok but given the problems had these units returned as being not fit for use. Given the other problems people have experienced with different aspects of these machines returning them seems a very wise move.

The other offerings in the HP Multifunction arena also appear to be plagued with problems so be very careful when looking at HP for your chosen solution especially in the inkjet world.

I've since gone for the slightly more expensive Canon MP780 which so far does exactly what you'd expect of these machines and does it very well, no installation issues, software provided is streets ahead of the poor effort released by HP.

So, potentially a good machine at a good price let down by substandard software which just didn't work for me and couldn't be fixed by HP support.

1-0 out of 5 stars Scanner failure
We bought two of these, they are both gathering dust as they both have "Scanner failure" at power on.Even if we don't want to use the scanner we can't print.

I have requested our IT department to avoid HP products where possible as there was no support, and a great raft of stuff on the web about this problem, but no easy solution.

The product is quite useless to us.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NotBuy!
This machine was issued to me by my company for use at home.I wish I could take it back, but unfortunately I have no choice.

first, this printer uses A LOT of ink.It also shakes wildly when it prints - almost I would invision a cartoon printer to print.

The fax machine has no quickscan feature and the autofeeder has to be babysat each and every fax.

The scanner is alright, but the software is not too user friendly.

Allaround, there are much better products out there. If your company doesn't decide for you, stay away from this one!

1-0 out of 5 stars A problem from the start
I will make this short and not very sweet.Avoid this machine for the following reasons:

Scan never worked

Cannot be fully accessed through network without HP proprietary wireless card.

HP claims that Belkin wifi ports are not compatable with this machine.

Online support is nil

Double feeds pages

1-0 out of 5 stars MyHP1210 printer experience
Wanting a multifunction printer that was reasonally priced with photo quality features at the hundred dollar budget price cap I had at the time, led me to the 1210. Having done a web search on this printer yielded very little info to make a confident purchase decision, I went ahead and bought it at retail sale price. I was not dissapointed at the print quality, which is quite good when print is at best setting, with glossy type photo paper used. Although print speed at these settings could reach about 3 minutes for a full page printout, I can tolerate this but others may not. Now for the really good stuff. I have had this baby for about a year now, having already replaced the black print cartridge once but still using the tri-color cart. Sure the thoughtful software kindly reminded me 6 months ago that I should replace it, but ignored it and it still is going.
I mostly print out playlists, and regularly printout full color images that don't always take more than half page, and for most non photo printouts I engage FASTDRAFT mode, which is fast and uses a lot less color ink. Being dilligent about using FASTMODE I believe is the reason the ink has lasted so long because the printer defaults to NORMAL print mode after every print job. I think it is amazing the tricolor ink cart has lasted me this long, although I sense it going out any day now. Other than not having any photocard slots, this is a very nice second printer. And lastly, use your own judgement as to when to replace the ink.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slightly better than adequate
I've now had this printer for almost six months. It is not the main printer in my home, but it gets a fair amount of use.The copying function works very well.Scanning is a little too complicated, but also works well.Where the printer falls down is in paperfeed during printing. It will often (but inconsistently) grab too much paper and jam. This makes the machine very unreliable for large printing jobs when one might walk away from the printer, and irritating for shorter jobs that require a lot of refeeding to get one or two good pages out.

This does not happen often enough that I would advise somone not to buy the machine, but it does often enough that I would consider, if there is a better model, spending a bit more for something more reliable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice little all in one!
I purchased this printer mainly for the copier as I greatly needed this function at home.Much to my delight, it also made very nice lab quality borderless 4x6 prints using the HP 4x6 photo paper with just the tri-color cartridge supplied!I have switched out trying the HP photo cartridge, which was even better w/my prints but not necessarily needed to get nice prints.

I can use other photo papers besides HP but you'll have to experiment to find out what is to your liking with the different papers. Not all papers reacted well with the HP ink and some of the other brand papers simply made the prints look "flat" while HP and Office Depot store brand photos papers worked very well for me.

I had absolutely no trouble installing this printer -- nor using it and the paper feeds very well, including the 4x6 photo stock. Just move the "arm" over to hold that size.

This printer has PictBridge which works beautifully, was very easy and a joy to use!It allowed me to print borderless 4x6 photos, crop, rotate and make adjustments.I have printed close to 40 borderless photo's so far, made lots of color copies, printed scans and still have a good amount of ink left in the cartridges that came with the printer.

I find that I need to use the color button for most of my copying needs. When I copy using the B/W command when there is anything more than text to copy, it will not look as nice as a copy using the color command, but that may not matter to you depending on what is being copied.

So far, I have not experienced any "cutting off" problems when copying.I find the color copies to be very good.I don't care as much to copy glossy photo's, they were okay on photo paper but then I would not want to use this printer strictly to copy nice photo's although I found that matte photo paper was more forgiving of that and compensated when making just photo copies of actual photo's.If I copied from a glossy 4x6 onto glossy photo paper, and even when I tried this on the demo's in store of same and higher quality models as well as different brand of all in one's that the copy just never was as nice as the original. This printer is a slow but print speed really hasn't been an issue for my home needs.I like the price of this printer so I can tolerate the slower speed.Besides, I can command numerous print jobs (one after the other) without problems and walk away.No jams or paper feed issues have happened.

Overall, this printer does exactly what it claims to do and I think is a bargain for the price.

Sometimes the cartridges get damaged. A damaged cartridge will give you a B/W print out or some other horrible variation of print that will never be right until you replace the damaged cartridge with a good one.I have had this happen in the past on one occasion.HP was super and replaced the damaged cartridge for me.I was very satisified with that gesture because I think that I was the one who unknowingly, accidentally damaged that cartridge!HP cartridges have the printheads built right into their cartridges, thus the higher cost. However, I prefer the printheads built in over the other which is why I tend to like HP printers although I do wish the ink was less expensive or more ink for your money. The newer, larger ink tank is limited to certain newer than this models and not even available in all the different cartridges and are not compatible with this model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Printer I Ever Bought
If there were any piece of electronics I'd like to take back
20 years and show it to people in 1984, this would be it.
And only $85 ??

I bought the printer from Amazon and it arrived in 2 days.
I forgot to get the special printer cable, but while waiting for this I found that the copier function works right out of the box!

The copier is great. Just like a Xerox machine. Put the original in and hit the copy button (black or color) and the copy is printed out in about 30 seconds or so. The color is almost exactly like the original ! It is very hard to see any difference even on a very colorful photograph. A+. Even if you don't need a printer, buy this for a copier !

The printer replaced my $380 HP870CSE which finally refused to print clearly anymore. The 1210 prints just as quickly, perhaps quicker. The quality is A+. It is less noisy. I don't understand the reviews where people call it "clunky." Also, no paper jams
yet.

Another nice feature is the "cancel" button on the printer. Have you ever had your printer spew out pages of garbage that you couldn't stop ? Not this one. Just hit "cancel" and it stops instantly and ejects the page.

Yet another nice feature is that it doesn't turn on when power comes up. So if you turn on your computer system power and you don't want to print, it just stays off. They've thought of all my pet peeves about printers.

My only complaint is that the instruction manual is extremely abbreviated. For example, how to modify scanner files is left to a sofware "help" sectionwhich is all broken up. They should spend the money on a 100 page detailed printed manual.

This thing does everything but FAX . I notice they have more expensive models that also FAX, so some might consider these.

I'm an Engineer, and if any HP guys are reading this : Congratulations on a great design !

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value
I found this combo refurbished machine in OM, (...). I realized that there was a better deal for this machine at (...) after all rebates in June, well, I missed out but I still think this is a good value.

For the printer function, I give it 4 stars. Print quality is good. User can default a draft mode for printing documents, which can save substantial ink. However, this machine sometimes has paper jam problem: to prevent paper jam and waste of ink, I need to feed in page by page for printing. This is fine for me as I don't print a lot.

For copying function, I give it 4 stars. The copying function is pretty good. Without using your PC, you can make copies directly from the machine. [They provide 2 jelly bean style copy buttons (color or b/w) on the machine]. However, the scan head seems getting noisy (higher pitch noise) after 50+ times usage.

For scan function, I give it 2.5 stars. Other than the aforementioned scan head issue, the scanning speed is pretty slow.

For the quality of scanned image, I tried to scan a color magazine page with 100dpi and 300dpi, the 300dpi output had a lot of rough lines, while the quality of 100 dpi output looked a little bit better than the 300 dpi output but a bit blur.

For Scan to document feature, it took me over 40 secs to complete scanning a b/w document. This 40+ secs included the scanner software launch -> pre-scan ->scan preview -> document scan -> document translation to .doc file. Moreover, the document recognition program in HP software is doing a mediocre job in translation.

- 1st, it cannot recognize check box / radio box in a document, and you will find weird symbol in your output word document.

- 2nd, before using "scan to document" feature, make sure your document is printed on fine quality paper. I tried to scan a page in my Princeton GMAT book (which is print on rougher paper). The quality of scanned output in .doc file was really lousy. I got a bunch of weird symbols in the output .doc file.

For HP software, the installation program is pretty buggy. After "successful" installation claimed by HP wizard, launching the HP director program only showed 2 icons instead of 5. Fortunately, I went to HP support web right away and troubleshooted the issue by copying missing folders from CD to my PC.

All in all, this machine is really cute and neat, given its all-in-one functionalities, it is especially good value for non-frequent/home/budget users. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Shorter life span than expected
We bought this item new for our office a little over 1 1/2 years ago for $550 (the cheapest price we could find it for at the time) and it served us well, up until it quit working. The copies are a little slow, but it does have many helpful functions etc. I am giving it only two stars because even though it was so versatile and met all our needs it lasted less than two years and cost us $550. (That's over $275/year!!!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Noise Levels not for the faint of heart!
I bought this for our home office/homeschool to replace a dinosaur, the HP 150 color copier. We shopped for a machine like the 150 that would simply make decent inkjet color copies and to our dismay found that most manufacturers are producing "multi-function" devices with the weak link being the copy function. They were all so slow as to be unuseable for making 100-200 copies per week. I finally found the 610 on-line as a "replacement/upgrade" to the 150. It arrived this week.

Set-up was straightforward. The footprint is a bit larger than the 150, but it also makes copies up to legal size so the scan bed is larger. It has a tray to feed originals into and a "two-sided" copy mode that works nicely. The quality is only mediocre in "fast" mode (my mode of choice for most copies). When set to "fast", text is a bit blurred, though certainly legible, and colors are noticeably subdued.it is decent/acceptable in "normal" mode. I have only attempted copies of pages with text and moderate graphics-no photos as yet, but my guess is that it would not be a great photo copier. The graphics I've printed are not extremely accurate.

The speed is acceptable, although it seems cumbersome and slow for single copies. But after initial warm-up/head cleaning and for multiples it is much quicker than the 150. Color copies produced at a rate of about every 5-6 seconds in "fast" mode.

The downside is the noise. It literally sounds like it is coming apart. I had a transmission go bad in a car once that was almost as loud as this copier! Thankfully, it resides in our homeschool room and not in my office where I make business phone calls. It would be impossible to talk on the phone in a 12' x 14' room while this thing makes copies.

The other big downside to me is the lack of Mac driver support. So far there are not even any "gimp-print" drivers available. I hope HP will correct this and produce drivers for us Mac users.

My final verdict is that it satisfies my need for a decent copier. With a hundred dollar rebate, making the total purchase around $300, the price is about right.I have no idea about some of the advanced features like collating, banner printing, etc. Most of these I will never use. All in all, for what we'll use it for, it's a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good
I selected this model after a long search and comparison of high-end home/small office copiers. This one is loaded with features. If you want a copier in this price range that COLLATES, then this HP 610 is your ONLY choice.I almost went with another brand that claimed to collate, but only by scouring customer reviews did I learn what their advertising conveniently omitted: collation only works in black and white. If you are buying a color copier, what ... good is that?

Some other competitive models WILL collate color, but ONLY if the copier is connected to a computer. But I bought this one for my wife to use for materials for her Kindergarten class, and this machine will be a stand-alone copier for the near future.I already have a multifunction printer and a photo printer connected to my computer. The copier will be in another room by itself.

Setting up was easy.I did run into two small glitches:On step 7(4b), the instructions say "Push the printhead handles down".If you've seated the printheads properly, then they are ALREADY pushed down. This is unclear, and you could unnecessarily break one. When they didn't seem to budge, AND everything seemed to fit ok, I assumed they were already pushed down, and it turned out I was right.

The other glitch: Step 9, "Align the printheads".As the very last step you press the "Enter" button to align the printhead.A message appeared on the display, something like "Starting Process" (I don't recall exactly). Then the machine just sat there, apparently doing nothing.

While I was waiting, I searched through the manual trying to see if they mention how long this would take. Not a word. Finally I gave up, and tried to shut off the machine, but the power won't go off when it's in the middle of something. Finally, I took a chance and disconnected the power cable. When I powered it back up, it announced it was aligning and immediately went into action; only then did I know for sure that I did the right thing.

The few tests I ran on the machine went without a problem.I'm giving it 5 stars because of its great capability and so far it looks wonderful.I did not appreciate that this machine, out of the box, does double sided copying.Thats right, it automatically can copy BOTH sides of an original (if it starts in the ADF) and print BOTH sides of the copy. And, you can choose to do 1>1, 1>2, 2>1, or 2>2 copying. All, hands off.

The machine is slow and clunky. It has the most far ranging and bizarre assortment of wierd noises, clicks and clunks, you are sure the machine disintegrating inside, or some parts came loose and are systematically destroying the machine. You'd be better off being deaf; then you'd just notice that the machine is SLOW.

Its particularly slow when you are just making one copy or so.It is more at home when you have to make 8 copies of a 10-page color document, and collate them. That is a start-and-forget operation. So, this machine is less than ideal for a busy office, but for home use, the slowness and oddball noise is no big deal. ...For home use, this IS a very expensive machine ...but for a busy office not on a tight budget, you may actually want to step up in class.

I had a Canon PC-20 copier for 18 years before I bought this one and put the old Canon out on the curb. That Canon ... was R-U-G-G-E-D, and still working when I said goodbye. The HP is far lighter, and presumably flimsier. They just don't mak'em like they use-ta.I do worry about the durability of this machine, and there is some indication that it will prove to be sensitive to the paper that goes in through its feeders. So be careful.Make sure your blank paper is clean and perfect; if your originals are not in pristine shape, use the fixed platen rather than the document feeder.

Lastly, HP's reputation for quality and customer support has slipped in recent years. That is why I looked so hard to find an alternative model....I always decline extended warranties, but you might want to take a closer look at one if its offered where you buy this machine.

I'm giving this machine 5 stars, but remember, I've only done about 25 copies total on this machine.....

Enjoy. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Nice...Until It Breaks Within a Year
I found that this model met a lot of my needs, and I really liked it at first.Less than a year later, however, the cartridge jammed to the right of the machine and quit working. We had a warranty at that time, so we turned it in and ended up with a refurbished one.Now it is less than a year later and the machine has the same problem with the cartridge stopping on the right.I am a home school mother, and it is important for me to print papers up on demand. It is a very big inconvenience for me to lose a printer and not be able to print work out.The last HP printer we had did not do this in all of the years we had it.I am very disappointed in this printer and would think that HP would have fixed this problem long ago.I wonder if I will even get a credit toward another printer for all of this inconvenience, but honestly I doubt it.I think I will be looking into a different brand of printer for my next purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Known gear jam problem
There is a well known hardware failure problem with these printers called the "carriage jam" issue. The print cartridge carrier gets stuck to the right due to what HP calls a defective gear assembly. HP has been replacing these units outside the standard warranty, though not recalling them.
Our company has a few hundred of these and the number of units failing at 13 months is astounding. If you own one and are having this problem you may be able to get HP to replace it outside the warranty period.

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage!
Designed to self destruct. These are discontinued now but are still floating around on clearance shelves.Stay away!

Even when it worked it made terrible clicking/popping noises that should not come from a printer.Output was "ok" but it jammed all the time.It HATES envelopes, don't bother.

Very cheaply made and it just barely made it through hp's 1 year warranty before it up and died. With $50 worth of new ink cart's in it I might add.

No more HP for me! In the trash it went.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best inkjet I've ever used (and then some)
When our last home office fax machine died I went looking for another. I already had a laser printer at home and an Epson Stylus Color 900, so what I was really looking for was a fax machine. The price of the 5100 all-in-one was perfect and I had never owned an HP so I got it and brought it home and hooked it up to my G4 Power Mac running OS X.

The Officejet functions perfectly as a relatively low throuput fax machine - at least as good as the the last one (Panasonic) that I had - and the images sent and received are very sharp and clear. The fax software was easy to use and so was the unit. so I was happy.

Then I tried the printer.I was shocked. Using regular paper, on the fastest Draft setting, the output was very, very good - easily better than the normal setting on the Epson. Then I started playing around with really good paper (Kodak Picture Perfect Premium) and printing photos and I was really amazed. The results are very near photo quality. It's a bit slow in the super hi res mode, but the results are worth it.

And it copies too! It's not a flatbed so you have to separate the pages and they must lie flat, but the copies are as good as anything I will ever need.

All this from a printer that costs less than $200.I call that abargain.I have had absolutely none of the problems that some of the other reviewers mentioned, and I have used many different types of media of all sorts of thickness. The only thing I can think of is perhaps they somehow got stuck with a lemon, but in reality I suspect that it is operator error.I like everything about this printer and would buy another one in a second. At under $200, I think this is the best bang for the buck of all the computer/audio visual/tech toys that I own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy all in one office machine!
I do professional photography and wanted to find a combo machine that I could also use to scan my photos. I had purchased the HP scanner 5530 that has a multiple photo feeder. I ended up returning it because I was not able to scan textured prints with good quality. I wanted to find a scanner that was easy & quick to operate. I normally need to scan anywhere from 100 to 250 photos at one session and using a flat bed design was too slow & tedious. The 5510v is designed to scan photos with a couple of buttons on the panel. The scan is sent to your computer for your approval. The software will crop and auto correct for you. There is even a black & white scan feature built on the panel. The quality is good enough for the web or contact sheet printing. The software installed very easily on my Windows XP machine. You can customize the software to operate in a way that is most convenient for you. The printing quality is good for a 4 color ink machine. If you are looking for a photographic quality printer, then the 6+ ink printers are better. The coping feature works very well. Overall, this is a good & simple to operate office machine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Copier at a Great Price
Looked all around for reviews on this item, and was surprised to find nothing.

This is a smart product, with some great features which has worked flawlessly so far. It was out of the box and running in minutes, with hardly any instruction manual review required. Operation is smooth and quiet, and it starts instantly.Very intuitive operation.

The one-piece toner cartridge is nice, and installed without problems. Some quick math indicates that copies will cost just pennies each with this unit, if the cartridge performs to specs.

For our small home office use, this is perfect. While it is not fast, it works beautifully. It folds up to a small compact size, and is even portable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of unusual, not that great
I just bought one of these. The first thing you notice when you try to make a copy is that unlike most flatbed copiers-- where an internal scanner mechanism moves, and the object being scanned stays still-- in this one, the whole top of the scanner, including the glass, moves back and forth, and the scanner element stays still. That's fine for scanning papers, but not so good for oddly shaped objects like books, since you can't really press down on the lid.

Also, the auto-exposure produces kind of light scans.

Otherwise, it's very fast, and like it says, no warm up time. You just put the paper in, turn it on, and press "scan". ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't purchase from mobileplanet!!!
MobilePlanet, Inc. ,

My wife purchased the disc Steno CP200 (MP500251) as a Christmas gift for me from MobilePlanet, Inc. The remote control which came with the unit did not work. I have made several attempts to contact your office by phone. I was put on hold for hours on end even though the message on play on your technical support line keeps repearing that I am first on on line. I have written several emails to your office without getting a response.

I am disappointed with your service and will be posting a review of your store on Amazon. com where the equipment was purchased.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Gizmo!
Worked flawlessly straight out of the box & without reading the manual. VERY FAST even in "secure" mode, which verifies the data. Good disc spanning technology when inserting cards that have more data than a CD can hold. It burned & verified a 1GB CF card (40x) to 2 CD's in about 10 minutes, and that's the slow mode. Be aware that my unit did not read either pictures or movies (MPEG-1) from my SanDisk memory stick pro, but it did read our Sony memory stick pro with the exact same file types as well as various PDA files no problem. It keeps on writing sessions until CD is full, so far no misburns or anything. The TV interface is a little dull and "clunky" and my 8Mpixel images take some time to load but that's not a big deal. Plays DVD's and music CD's although I haven't tried MP3 discs. The manual mentions a car (cigarette lighter) adapter that is not in the box, and it's too bad they didn't provide a carrying case. Still; this little machine seems extremely trustworthy and will help me out very effectively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best little unit.....ever!
No problems, at all.Seems to work flawlessly, with a neat little lcd display screen that makes everything nice and easy.

I'd recommend this unit to any traveller.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy another printer, it will be larger & more costly
You can read all the reviews for all the other printers & compare the features or you can make the decision easy by getting this super value printer/copy/scanner & enjoy its printing quality within 12 minutes of opening the box.

I have a 2004 Compaq, Windows Home XP system.Set up was accomplished seemlessly the first time with the CD-ROM.This is the way it's supposed to happen.I opened the box, plugged the system into the computer with the USB, place the CD-ROM and followed the prompts and then set the printer as my default from the start menu and wow beautiful fast prints emerge from my command. The process took less than 12 minutes. It was so easy I did not have time to finish reading the instructions.I don't know where the other people writing these threads got their problems. The speed may not be the fastest on the market by specs, but the prints come out almost as fast as you can deal with them & as fast as the printers at work costing 10 times as much. The copy quality & ease are great and will not
disappoint you.

The initial cost & long-term cost are low.Over the next 5 years, my high quality prints will be less than $0.02 each including the cost of the printer.

Who needs a fax anymore. All you get from faxing is poor quality resolution. With email and the built in scanner all the functions that you would ever need for faxing is accomplished right here & you have the documents stored in your emials & not in a drawer. Also you don't need 2 phone lines or have the fax continually mess up your primary line.If I had a fax feature, I would not even hook it up, so why pay for a feature you don't want & could compicate the picture.

All the other machines of this quality are more exspensive to purchase and operate, are larger in size & are more complicated to run.I don't know how a home or small business could go wrong with this printer.A value priced home run.
Amazon got it to my house with standard shipping in 2 days.I am a happy customer with a product that fulfills its claims & purpose.

5-0 out of 5 stars What would I have done without it?
I've had mine for two full years, and I used it on most days. As a teacher, the convenience of sticking a book on the flatbed, pressing 25, and then hitting the green button, and having it print out 25 copies very quickly while I shave is... invaluable. I, for one, have never experienced any problems with the unit. I've replaced the toner twice -- a very simple procedure, and it's some of the cheapest toner around, giving me some of the lowest per page costs of laser printers. (Compare Brother toner to, say, Samsung toner.)

I don't experience paper jams, as I have with every other printer I, or my family members, have owned. The scanner integrates seemlessly with WinXP. Just a few minutes ago, I stuck on a cookbook, clicked "My Computer" in WinXP, then double clicked on the Brother icon, and it started the scanner wizard. I chose "greyscale image," it scanned it in maybe fifteen seconds, and then I clicked on "send to email" and I sent off the recipe to a friend of mine. The entire process took me about two minutes. It's not a scanner I'd use for archiving my photo collection, but it is good enough for most uses, and can copy a photo to my photo printer for a decent job.

I've been extremely happy with it. Cheap to operate for copying and printing, inexpensive toner with easy replacement, no printer jams. Two years service, and no decrease in quality. The "toner low" light does come on too early, but I just keep printing, usually a couple of hundred more pages, until I see fading, before I actually replace the toner. While this at first annoyed me, now I use the light as the "go order some toner so you have it around" light.

1-0 out of 5 stars Choose Another Printer!
I thought I would be quite happy with this printer when I found it at a reasonable price. But with its splotchy printing, low drum capacity, and expensive drums, I found it cheaper to buy a HP 1012 than to keep this one running.Even the starter drum on the HP 1012 last longer than the DCP 1000 drums.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good inexpensive printer/copier
I work for a sole practitioner attorney. When the HP LaserJet III finally died at the office, we tried running the office on an Epson ink jet printer for several days.As that was completely inadequate, we looked around for an inexpensive laserprinter which would handle a duty cycle of about 3,000 pages per month. We decided on the DCP-1000 because it had a built in copier with sheet feeder, was reasonably fast, and was inexpensive. We have had it for about half a year, and the only thing I really dislike about the unit is the way it spits paper out the front without an adequate recepticle.

The printer is excellent for the size of our projects, which tend to be less than 30 pages, and has stood up to the paper output of our office, which includes four networked workstations. It is also nice to have a copier with a sheet feeder for small jobs so we don't have to run to the copier half way across the building we work in.

Several reviewers have commented about the price of the replacement drums and the speed with which they and the toner cartridges are used up.The fact is that the toner refills are only about $30, which is less than half the price of the cartridges used on almost any other laser printer. So, the fact that you have to spend $120 on a drum every 20K copies or so is the trade-off.This means it is no more expensive per copy than just about any other laser printer.

It would cost at least an extra $150 to purchase any other printer/copier and get the same functionality. For around $300, you get print quality which is good enough to hand to a judge, a copier with a multisheet feeder which makes good 600 dpi quality copies, and a color scanner which is adequate for occasional use and for OCR.This makes it a very cost effective unit for a home or small office.

As an update, after a little more than a year and close to 100,000 pages printed, the sheet feeder broke.(We replaced the drum 4 times.)It has more than paid for itself.Rather than have it repaired, we purchased a Brother MFC-8440 because, while we were happy with the product, we wanted a heavier duty, faster machine with a built in fax.I have the DCP-1000 at home, and anticipte getting it repaired.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine Printer
The price is right. I've been using it for a long time now without a glitch. The paper does have a tendency to curl, and the output "tray" is not wonderful, but the thing "rocks". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
Looking at all the negative reviews, I'd never buy one of these multi-function printers. However, our D135 is a wonderful device and we've been delighted with it since we bought it. I've never had a problem with it and as of April 1, 05 we'll have had the printer for three years. I did spend the extra money to get the extended warranty and, of course, have never had to use it. When we need it to work, it works without fail. The duplexing option is also great to have.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP is awful
I got this printer a couple of years ago, and have always had issues with it.The cd that came with it didn't work.I went to the hp website and let it scan my computer to find the right driver, and it installed them but it still didn't work.I let it scan again and it kept saying I had bad drivers. The tech support was not helpful. The website's utility thing also deleted some necessary windows files when it cleaned up after itself, so I had to run a repair on windows. The scanner has never worked properly. And it streaks like crazy.I have tried all the things the troubleshooter said to do, but it's still there.I replaced all the printheads, I have all new cartridges, and it still gives me error messages about them. This is a total waste of money.I've never liked HP, but I had high hopes for this.I will never buy HP again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked for a year, then dropped dead; stay away.
I purchased my D135 in November, 2003.It had a defective printhead straight out of the box, which HP offered to replace.I replaced the $40 printhead on my own (I didn't want to wait for the new one to arrive via mail) and the machine has worked well since then.Until...

A few days ago it ran out of color ink and upon replacing it I received a 'carriage error'.Several hours of HP chat and phone support later, I found that my machine had hardware failure and could not be repaired.Since the machine was past the one year warranty (by 3 months), HP could only offer me 15% off a refurbished model -- hardly a deal for a defective machine that cost hundreds of dollars new!!

I spoke with several supervisors and they were unanimous in the offer (or lack thereof), despite my protests.

My complaint was that although the machine was out of warranty, it was only recently past warranty AND due to the nature of the error (ie DEAD machine), I should have been presented with some fair upgrade/exchange options.I found several forums online mentioning the same hardware error, leading me to believe that it was just a defective product line.I didn't believe that 15 months was a reasonable lifespan for an All In One machine. It should have been considered that this was an expensive machine and I felt I should have been presented with some feasible repair options, if available, and some reasonable exchange options if repair was out of the question. The exchange options they did provide showed no consideration toward the fact that I had a purchased a lemon and lost a lot of money.

Bottom line: I will be purchasing a new all-in-one printer this week and you can be it will NOT be an HP.Nor will I be purchasing any other HP products in the future.A good company should stand by its products, even beyond the warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
I can't believe I spent $500 on this printer which now sells for $125!It worked well for about a year until the warrantee ran out.Now all print heads streak!I've done all the maintenance requirements, etc.Manufacturer says to replace all four print heads. This would cost more than a new machine!I'll never purchase a HP product again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disposable Machine
I had my Officejet for only six months when I started getting a "Scanner Failure" error.Turning the machine off and restarting it seemed to work for a while. Then the error message would come more frequently.I took it to a certified HP repair center, paid adiagnostic fee, and was told that it couldn't be repaired.HP offered to take the machine back and send me another one but I would have to pay almost full price for it. I was also told that this was basically a disposable piece of equipment. It's too bad because this machine made the best color copies! Maybe the manufacturer should be required to print on the box "cannot be repaired"! On the continued down side, it is very loud and slow. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Bad Bad
I purchased this printer (refurbished) at an electronics store in the West LA area.I was attracted by the features and the price.. $179 for an all-in-one with Ethernet and 802.11b!!WOW.. who wouldn't jump at that?!?Granted this is a refurbished unit (they did have alot of them, they are even on the HP website) but what the heck right? That is what I thought until I tried to get it to work!

Right off the bat I had an issue.Every other printer (not just HP) I have used moves the print carriage to the center of the printer when you want to insert the cartridges. After chatting with HP support... we BOTH (HP Tech support and myself) find out that this model doesn't do that. Ok.. problem solved.

Setting it up is next.. take it over to my router. connect it.. power everything up... start installing the software.. and I hear it clicking and groaning. After about a minute of this it stops and the display reads.. Scanner Error.I open up the scanner lid and the scanner light has moved all the way to the left of the scanner.I figure maybe it was just a glitch in the Self Test.So I unplug and plug it back in.The unit now doesn't even complete the Self Test.. and I still hear the scanner light making that clicking noise. As I continue setting up the software I get to the point where it says Choose connection method.. I choose Network.. and it finds the printer on the network via the ethernet cable. Ok... now it asks do you want wired or wirless. I choose wireless... it comes back with .. Found PSC 2500 series printer at (<>IP address).. Is this the printer? Y or N.I select yes and then click continue. IMMEDIATELY I go straight back to Choose connection method!!! I do this 2 more times and realize im in a damn loop!!

Back online with HP Tech... after describing the problems and what all I have done he has me hold the # + 6 keyes while plugging it in. The unit starts doing a Semi-Full Reset. The scanner light is now moving back over to the right. It gets there and starts clicking some more like the unit is trying to push it further than it should!Of course this didn't phase the Tech at all.. he acted like it is normal hearing the unit clicking for a minute! So meanwhile im still trying to get the software to install.. never does! Im stuck in the endless loop still.

The Tech has me download a "Firmware Update".. so I download it and try and run it connected thru a USB cable. The "Firmware Update" only works on Network connected printers. So I connect to back to the network. Run it again and same issue!!The Tech now tells me to take it in to my local Authorized HP Service Center because it is a hardware problem.Uhh.. hello.. your software here is going in loops .. it won't let me even get thru the connection part. Now then.. to top everything off when you cancel the instal of software it forces your computer to restart! So I tell the Tech that I will just return it to the store.. which is 40 miles from where I live.

My Suggestion is DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of garbage...HP support useless
Have yet to get scanner to communicate...either in wired or wireless mode.Spent 2 hours w/ 'tech support', if you can call it that, last night.Downloaded latest drivers/software....all &^*^# GB of it....still get the 'error communicating with scanning device'....totally dead in the water and HP saying they don't have this problem with wireless, only with wired, and have a fix for that...hey they should read a few postings....like I SHOULD have....you have been warned....it's worthless!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A word of caution
For potential buyers of this unit or even (apparently) the 2710, a few words of caution so you will not make the same mistakes i did.

I bought this unit solely because it is really the ONLY multifunction unit that supports Mac. Installing this with my Powerbook G4 was a breeze. Wireless works great. The unit is really convenient. But the negatives far outweigh the positives:

1. If you are a genuine digital photo enthusiast, you will be dissapointed with its photo print capabilities. Simply compare the results with a Canon i960, and you will know. I thought I'll still take a chance, kind of attracted by the "cool factors" of this printer, but I regret it.

2. Moreover - when I installed this on my Windows ME desktop (that was the whole idea of wireless, so I can use this with multiple comps), it completely MESSED UP the OS. I started getting errors on KERNELL32.DLL, and i kept getting messages that HP....,exe has caused a permanent error, and what not. I just had to uninstall the software, and now my PC is clean. Clearly, while HP says all good things, they simply screwed up. Even downloding latest drivers solved none of the issues.

3. Also beware, I have heard issues with XP over the internet, and experienced that too. When I loaded the software unto my XP work laptop, the HP Director and fax set-up simply did not happen properly, and I cannot send faxes. Clearly, I am not technologically challenged, its just that here's a product that is challenging on its own!

So: my solution? I am selling this crap and buying a Canon i960 for under a 100 bucks, and also keeping my old HP T45 deskjet all-in-one for all other purposes. I wont have the cool wireless factors, but at least I can get beautiful prints and have a printer that works flawlessly across platforms.

In HP's defense - if you are a "pure" MAC user (I cannot be because of my work environment), or if you are happy with moderate quality photo prints taken on basic digicams (4mp or lower), this is an excellent solution

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome hardware, horrible software
This is a phenomenal piece of computer hardware, though the software that comes with it leaves a lot to be desired.Under Mac OS X, you'll want to repair your permissions after you install the software.Under Windows XP, be prepared to have nearly a gig of hard disk space. The printer output is phenomenal.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Crap- DO NOT BUY
Once again, HP fails to deliver. This thing is the worst piece of crap ever... and I am a PC technician... hahaha.. my computer is a 2.4ghz 1gig of ddr ram and wireless networking. Wireless networking ceases to work, it seems to work on some computers but not all, a fact due to childish programming on HP's behalf. The hardware itself looks fantastic, but the software is pure crap, and I can't stress that enough.. it is a gigabyte of junk that slows down your computer and doesn't even work, and this is their latest update!! Their 1 gigabyte of software after installation doesn't even place a printer in your printer spool area, your going to have to figure out how to do that yourself, or have someone over at hp tech support in Bali help you who cant even speak more than 2 words of english, they sound like they are sounding out phonetics from a book or something, and I wonder how much HP pays them? Please support Dell or anyone else, you'd probably be better off building, writing, and compiling your own printer software; even if you know nothing about computers. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Error 41 Help
I just ordered my FOURTH replacement from Brother. My original purchase was Sep 2003. After #2 and near the end of the 1yr warrantee, I purchased the extended warrantee which served me well for the $70 (or so) it cost me. Brother assured me that this replacement will have the new-improved printhead. I may renew the extended replacement coverage just in case. I realy like the machine and want to keep it. ERR41: I unplug it, wait, plug it in again and keep using it like this till the replacement arrives.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of JUNK! Fatal error exactly 2 months after warranty.
I bought this printer for a friend. It was refurbished, but it still had a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. The printer worked flawlessly for the most part within the warranty timeframe. Some two months ago it began complaining that some of the inks were low, even if they were full or new. Just weeks after the ink problems, the machine displays on its LCD "MACHINE ERROR 41... CALL BROTHER". Having come on this website by accident while researching this error, I am surprised at the amount of people with the same problem. Now I am convinced this is all made intentionally, no way something completely stops working immediately after the warranty. Repair costs are simply not worth it at $150 to $200 dollars. The most ingeniously evil plot about this error is that, in essence it blocks the whole machine from being used. Can't print, scan, fax, copy - nothing. The only thing you can do is throw it into the trash if you don't want to dish out cash to fix it. Absolutely evil machine, along with its creators. Never Brother again, they clearly encase rigged errors to poop the device after the warranty. Next I will go with Canon, maybe HP if the price is right. But HP tends overprice their printers way too much, and for the longest time they did not even offer borderless printing like Canon did for a much lower price with their machines.

1-0 out of 5 stars With a Brother like this, who needs another enemy?
I received the ink empty message, only a million times. Before the ink was empty, when the ink was empty, and after the ink was replaced and FULL!I finally got that cleared and almost exactly one month after warranty expiration, I received, 'Machine Error 41'!I think it's rigged. There's no burn ban where I live, so I'll get some satisfaction out of saying, 'BURN, BABY, BURN'!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sigh, another victim
I use google and type in Brother looking for their website or some info on a machine error 41. No luck. I go to Amazon, as I assure myself someone will have the Brother Customer service line or some kind of helpful hints on how to fix my issue. What do I see....Machine Error 41 on almost every review. Just hilarious. I've been suckered and have 100$ of worthless ink and a piece of junk sitting on my desk. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE!

4-0 out of 5 stars I got error 41 but replacement service was excellent
I bought my 4420c printer in Oct 2003 and had no trouble at all for the first 9 months, through reams of printer paper. Then when using it for an increased amount of printing than usual, I got the message Error 41.After a little trial and error with the same result, I called Brother and they sent me out a replacement, a 4820c instead.I got the package in 2-3 days, with a mailing label and instructions to pack up my 4420c in the same box and have it picked up.Initially I thought this better model was just a loaner while mine was to be fixed, so after I didn't hear from them I called them. They said I got the 4820c because they didn't have any 4420cs, and that it was a swap, not a loaner. So I was very lucky, but in their defense, I have had the 4820c (which they warrantied until the end of my original 1 yr.warranty) now for 6 months with no problems. It's a much better machine, and if it lasts a reasonable period of time (like at least several years),I would certainly take another chance on them, based on their service.I'm sorry others had such a bad experience. Maybe some heads rolled. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars lot more than desktop printer, love it for its full features
I used it only a few days, better than I expected, reliable, straight forward, no training needed.30page adf on a table top copier un-heard of. printer has more features than I ever wanted on tabletop unit: overlay for office letterhead, also useful for watermark office logo, multipage print for record keeping in a tight space, toners are dirt cheap in the aftermarket, and hear good quality responses. I will find out soon. I may buy another for my home, if it goes on sale.

3-0 out of 5 stars Expensive printer - Good for home use only
Canon D760 is a great printer as long as you connect it physically to a PC.Of course, very few buy a $600 printer for home use?A printer of this class is typically a network printer, shared by many, in a small office environment. If you are planning to network this printer using a print server, Canon D760 just falls short of expectations.Canon officially supports only AXIS 1610 model print server (through parallel port). The Axis print server retails for $200.Note that cheap and reliable alternatives like D-Link and Netgear print servers will not work with this printer.Though printer itself supports USB port. However, the USB port works only when it is connected through a PC.So, you cannot use a USB port print server with this product. With so many limitations (Many of which I did not even know, when I bought it), I would not recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars D760 - Great copier
Great copies, turns on for immediate copies, turns off by itself, very quiet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Canon D760
I bought this copier/printer to network with my computers. Like anyone who had computer experience I went and bought a print server. After many frustrating hours, I called Canon to find out the problem. I was told that the only print server that is compatible is the Axis 1610. I have looked at the manuals and the documentation. I have searched the web and NO WHERE does it state this. I feel a bit betrayed that this information is not stated anywhere.

However, as a ADF Copier it is fast and efficient. As a printer, the first page out is slow but all subsequent pages are quicl to print. Also, note the pages come out face up and therefore you must designate reverse order printing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Canon 761 does not supportLinksysPrintservers
Just purchased the Canon D761 printer/copier (feb 2004). This unit only supports two print servers... and I never heard of them.So it is not "generic" to most servers and should not be purchased if you need that feature.Reasonable printer and copy quality. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful WHEN IT WORKED!
I purchased the d145 in January 2003; approximately two months after the one year anniversary of the purchase (and the end of the warranty period), it ceased to function.Having owned at one time or another : a Lexmark X73, a Compaq bubble jet BJC-600and a Brother laser MFC 4550, and NEVER having had a problem with any of them more serious than a paper jam, I suppose I was defying the odds when I elected not to purchase the warranty upgrade.I thought HP was just a reliable as some of the others; now other wiser individualstell me they have faced similar problems with HP, namelybreakdown of one part or another just after warranty expires.

Specifically, whether from a computer copy or from the copy function itself, it became impossible to complete anything without the message "Scanner System Failure"appearing as the machine shut down. For a time I was able to trick it in to making a single copy by shutting it down, then turning it back on fast. However, soon even that "trick" no longer worked. Of course, all the troubleshooting hints failed as well. At one point I even thought perhaps the room was too cool for the printer and went so far as to swaddle it in blankets! That generated two copies!!

I finally got around to calling about printer repairs, having pressed the Brother back into action, but the answer is almost universal, that for an ink jet it is usually cheaper to buy a new one than to repair an old one.A laser printer is far easier to repair, I am told, as the parts are easier to access.

My advice, if you want to buy the hp d145 do so ( it WAS wonderful when it worked), but protect your investment, buy the extended warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars danger will robinson!!!!
this is a terrible machine. it is the noisiest piece of equipment we have ever purchased. it eats toner. it feeds paper 2, 3, 4 or more pieces at a time, especially if copying on reverse side. it goes thru so many motions to print one copy that you almost forget what you were there for. when working from computer it reduces copy to one tiny corner of paper for no reason, in the middle of a run. it is a piece of junk and we will replace it as soon as we can get over the 500 bucks we were ripped off. the only guarantee we can give is that we will NEVER buy an hp item again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor reliability: a clunker
I bought one of these expecting it to be a reliable machine designed to last heavy use. Even though I only use it lightly, the print and scan carriages often crash, the print heads come loose and are marked as bad, the windows USB drivers don't survive hibernation properly, and the thing starts flashing all lights and demands to be rebooted half way through a print. If it was still under guarantee I'd take it back. Even now I'm thinking of buying a replacement as I need to get a new cartridge (and that is a significant percentage of the price of a replacement) Oh yeah. Buy a printer with separate cartridges for each colour. You always run out of one particular colour first, so why throw away the rest?

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst product to work on macintosh
I bought D145 a year ago anddespite rares drivers update it's still using 25-50% off CPU even when not printing, i can't scan and it's so slow to print. Don't buy HP product for mac !

1-0 out of 5 stars Ink RipOff
I should have done more research into HP printer cartridges before I invested in this MFC.I run a small business and need a reliable, cost-effective printer. In order to save a significant amount of money, I use refilled cartridges.HP has put a time bomb in its cartidges by setting an expiration date on the cartidge.Even if the cartridge is still full!It totally stops working with no override available (there is an override for the ink level for refilled cartridges).Thier explanation for this is to protect us from degraded ink...The real reason is to force you to purchase expensive new ink cartidges at regular intervals whether you need them or not.It is interesting that they only do this on business oriented machines and not on the cheaper consumer models. The cheap machines must not need the "protection" from a degraded ink.I guess if ink costs per page is not an issue and having a ready supply of recently purchased ink cartriges on hand is within your budget, then this is the unit for you.

This thing is history! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon ImageClass D780 MF PDC
Fast, acurate, options, network able, clean, efficient and a low cost basis for what you get is great.

This machine works better than expectedpop in the full and complete cartridge and plug it in thats it =+.

Cost comparison works . We read it here and then did it.

Try it.

Only one major problem occured and nopt with the machine. It was with the firm of Canon. They never returned our calls.

Maybe not being an American firm they may have felt they did not have toreturn calls or eMails.

They do not even have a Toll Call to us either... ... Read more
