2-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by it's cover - looks nice, poor function
Don't even waste your money on this machine.I bought this machine about a year ago and it's ready for the garbage. When callers call, we can hear them and they can't hear us.As for the faxing/copying function, it now just prints out blank pages, even though the ink film is fairly new. When trying to fax, it always jammed if there was more than one page needing to be transmitted. Also, the ink film doesn't last very long. The only nice thing about this fax machine is the look and the cordless phone w/ caller id.I contacted Panasonic by phone and the recordings kept giving me different phone numbers to call.I emailed them my problem, haven't heard from them.I'm definitely not purchasing Panasonic again.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only good for ultra-light duty
Form factor is very attractive and the phone and answering machine work well, but the fax machine is not good at all.Copies are quite weak, and faxing more than one page guarantees a misfeed. You really have to feed one page at a time to successfully send a multi-page fax.

If you only fax once in a blue moon but want a home fax, consider this system. If your usage pattern is heavier, keep looking.

1-0 out of 5 stars Expensive ink
This machine takes very expensive ink to make it work.It works out to about $0.20 per page. Also, the machine is not that good anyways.

1-0 out of 5 stars picture is not the offered item
the picture shown has no relevance to the item offered and I can find no data on how long on average the film will last before it has to be replaced.Inexpensive machine, expensive ink required to make it work ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I would recommend this printer
After searching for about three weeks I just bought this printer. For the price and my purpose this was the best one.Mainly I wanted a laser printer (for the quality of print and savings on ink) and a fax machine, which could automatically recognize and answer an incoming fax (I didn't want a separate phone line). This printer's print quality is excellent (far better than my inkjet) and I've tested the automatic fax recognition and it works fine.I read somewhere that all-in-one-printers are "jacks of all trades - master of none", so I wasn't too concerned with what kind of scanning clarity I would get (I haven't tested this feature yet) (I figured the scanner and copier to just be a bonus) or the fact this machine isn't a flatbed.I figured if I wanted a real good scan quality of photos I would buy a separate scanner for this. Also, I read another review of this product and the buyer was upset because the version of the printer he bought didn't work with XP (he should have read the outside of the box.The store I went to had a version which on the box didn't list XP as compatible and a newer version which did list XP as compatible)(Panasonic now has the driver for XP on their Website.I assume this is for those who bought the older version). The toner and drum also seem to be a lot cheaper than compatible Brother Machines I've seen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with XP
This printer would probably be a great printer IF, & ONLY IF, you don't use XP.It crashes my system every time it "self-checks" & only prints about a third of the time and rarely two pages in a row, esp. from the Web. I have spent hours on the phone with tech support & they don't have a solution except to go back to an older operating system. No thanks!I have just disconnected it from my PC & use it only as a (very high priced) fax machine.Buyer Beware!!

5-0 out of 5 stars nice product
Sets up easily, print is outstanding, and the jog dial is very convenient. Careful shaking the print cartridge, when it says horizontially, take care to do that, or it will come out of the cartridge. Having it hooked up to your computer is a nice feature as well, and it works very well. I haven't had it long, but it is great so far. Sure like it better than the ink jet set up I had before. Well worth the extra money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality at a great price!
I tested over 30 multifunctional devices at my local...store before purchasing this item. The print quality is clearly the BEST out of all the multifunctional copiers I've seen to-date.Laser printer definitely makes all the difference in the world!

Toner cartridge for this device costs only $24 at the store; that is $75 cheaper than most other toners in other devices. What's even better is that each toner can output upto 2000 pages.Other more expensive toners only prints upto 600-1100 pages.OUCH!I would've had to spend 8 times the money for lesser quality printer...NO WAY!

That is one of the reasons I purchased this device without hesitation. It is definitely a consideration if you demand high quality printing frequently.I've been using it for 3 months now and I couldn't be happier.Recently, I purchased two additional units as gifts for my close relatives. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Think Twice
Very poor fax machine especially if you're trying to fax multiple sheets.Prone to jamming, only about 1 out of three faxes go on first try.If you only fax single sheets it may be worth it.Otherwise, keep looking.I'm looking to replace this thing.
On the positive side answering machine works well...

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the LOW VOLUME Fax User
If you don't use your fax (at least for incoming) all too much and need a cheap fax solution this is the one to get.It seems that a lot of people are still into pre internet mode and expect a "real" business to use a fax.So I needed a fax for casual use (in the first month of use I have recieved about 10 sheets and sent maybe 5).(...)

A.The price is right!

B.Dependable.Low Cost Consumables Ink Jet machines clog when they are not used on a regular basis. This Panisonic Fax uses film and the cost per page is something like 12 cents per page recieved/copied.

If you are using a fax machine often an inkjet is a better way to go since the per page cost is around 5 cents per page.(Actually I would get a laser machine if I had the upfront money.)But if you use a machine less than once a week or so you run the risk of the ink drying and clogging the print head.Getting it cleaned cost as much as buying a new machine. One can only guess what it will cost finding out your machine isn't working when you're trying to receive that super important fax.

C. Easy to use.I have not opened the manual since set up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to setup
I thought it was easy to setup and i havent had any problems with it, i hooked my internet line to fax machine and I never have a problem with logging onto the internet,I just unhook it when i logg off the net.this is my 1st fax machine and I Love It.

1-0 out of 5 stars I am replacing this machine.
I never write reviews, but in this case, I am in the process of replacing this piece of crap.We wanted a plain fax machine, nothing else.Well, we got it, it starts sending a fax and states a paper jam.The only way we can get around that is to stand there and push the paper through.I wish we had never seen the stupid machine. Also we get multiple copies, up to 10 from customers that say we are the only ones who have that problem.Like some of the other reviews, never a Panasonic fax again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This fax machine does everything that it says it can do, so for all of you who dont know how to set it up, just read the instructions. it works great for me. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Worked Great --- for a while
We have had our 2800 for about a year and a half now. For about the first 9 months of light use, it worked just great. Nice copies, faxes were fine. Then white lines showed up on every copy or fax, and nothing the manual recommended got rid of them. We put up with lousy copies for about six months now,and I just recently learned from calling tech support that the white lines are from a worn out drum. Replacing the drum turns out to cost MORE than the price of a new unit (go figure). I also learned that the drums are only designed to last a year at most. So... if you want a disposable fax machine that you throw out after a year, get this one. If not, forget it.

2-0 out of 5 stars unreliable w/high-cost of ownership in heavy-duty environmnt
We'll give the unit two stars instead of one, since when it does work, it works well, with nice print-outs.
But in a span of two+ years, its has needed its drum replaced three times. And has once needed the main system/circuit board replaced. We'd purchased this back when it cost about $125 more than it does now.And the parts have not been quickly available from some vendors. We should have bought the heavier-duty Brother 4750 which we use in another office, and has been flawless.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT SUITABLE FOR MODERATE TO HIGH USAGE!
If you're going to use this machine for light use, it probably is suitable. However, we receive about 50 fax pages per day, which to me is a moderate amount of pages.Within one year of purchasing this machine, we now find that the drum cartridge needs to be replaced. Not a biggie???Guess again!A drum cartridge for this questionable quality machine costs $175.00. Couple this cost with the fact that the hand set only works when the connecting cord is in certain positions... and you'll figure out why the future of my Brother PPF-2800 will be as a an anchor for my remote controlled sailboat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works well for us
We've had the 2800 for several months and it has worked well. Distinctive ring works every time. Setup was easy. Rarely the autofeed takes more than one sheet at a time. Overall, we're impressed. For a small office or home office, it's a great fax. The only drawback we encountered was that the initial toner cartridge doesn't last long so be prepared to replace it soon.

2-0 out of 5 stars One page at a time works great
I've had many fax machines and this one, when it worked, certainly wasn't the worst of the bunch. Problem is, the auto document feed tray is cheesy. No matter how many times I smoothed, then fanned the paper, it would accept two to five sheets at a time. If I fed one at a time, this unit worked like a champ. Unfortunately, that can be said of most units.I've had good Brother machines in the past, and probably will buy another, better, Brother fax. This one got me so frustrated I threw it out the back door. It's still laying there, only there seems to be more pieces now. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible product
does not print a fax report (manual makes a point of saying that!!) answering machine is a nightmare to operate remotely
volume control on the cordless phone is perpetually irritating

it is pretty, and that's the only nice thing i can say about it

3-0 out of 5 stars unhappy with cordless
Wow, what a great price, and so many features. However, everytime I use the cordless, I cringe. The sound is tinny...hurts my ear, no matter how I adjust the volume. I've had a lot of cordless phones over the years, and this one was the worst. The handset was just fine, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is indeed very, very SHARP!
First, I want to address "shadysprings"- I think you were sold a malfunctioning fax machine.Mine works great, in all aspects.I was able to set it up in 5 minutes and send a fax within 10 (you have to program in your information first). I do agree with the other people's suggestions that you read the manual carefully. It is LOADED with FEATURES like a 4 person mailbox. But overall, I am thrilled with my purchase. It faxes, copies, and takes phone messages, and takes up relatively little space. What more can you want?

4-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, but it gave me a headache
I tried this machine out, and liked everything about it except that it is a thermal printer, so it would be expensive to print very much. That accounts for the 4 star instead of 5 star rating. However, the reason it did not work out for me is that it gave me a headache everytime I plugged it in.Apparently I cannot tolerate the wireless signal.I have returned mine and will have to go with a corded system. Most people are probably not sensitive to that, judging by the number of cordless systems available nowadays.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sharp Product Indeed
I purchased the Sharp UX-CC500 for use as a home telephone/digital answering machine and occasional use for fax/copier.I like the fact that this unit is expandable, and I intend to purchase another cordless handset to give me three phones throughout the house for easy accessibility. There are up to 4 voice mailboxes in addition to the general greeting, so everyone in the house can have their own voicemail.
A neat feature of this unit is the intercom function between the handsets and the base unit which allow you to talk to people in other rooms just by pressing the intercom key and selecting the other phone that you want to ring. You can also program a name to each phone that shows up in the display.
In addition to that, there is a walkie-talkie feature between the handsets which allows you to take the handsets anywhere away from the base unit and they will communicate within 1200 feet of each other.
This 5 in 1 has so many features it is very important to READ the instructions in order to understand how they all work, in fact read them twice.I am extremely please with all functions of Sharp UX-CC500 and feel that it is well worth the money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed buyer
I've had this fax machine for only a few months and have received almost no faxes (except ones not solicited) and it tells me to get a new cartridge.I think it is not user friendly and it does not give enough copies for an expensive cartridge. I have just dragged out my old fax machine to use again.Think before buying this machine.I wish I had.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really worth it
Yes this was an inexpensive purchase - but it still wasn't worthwhile. The machine and manual are not very user friendly. The quality of the copies is pretty bad and the cartridge ran out after only a few uses. Not even worth the $80 it cost me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Garbage
I bought this today and it will go back to the store tomorrow.
It ate a piece of paper That I still cannot find. Paper jam is all it knows. New machine shredded the film cartridge. Not worthy of keeping it as a paper weight. Sends quite well and recieves fine, just won't print and hates paper. Great price and features if you can get it to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Save your $$

1-0 out of 5 stars I smashed mine into pieces today
This impersonation of a fax machine was nothing less of a paperweight. It jammed paper as much as my blues band. The programming menu never worked right.I would set it to NOT RECEIVE, and guess what..IT RECEIVED.Most of all, it would constantly say "CHECK PAPER" with the paper IN the tray.Today I had taken it out by the plug and smashed it into the walk alongside my house...Boy do I feel better!!!AVOID THIS GARBAGE.

5-0 out of 5 stars well worth the money
Not as fast and feature rich as my last fix but it was a fraction of the price and works aok. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor print quality
Print quality is only fair - blurred text. Forget any kind of small chart or image.

Ribbon is not in a cartridge, making it hard to load.

There is no tray to catch pages.

Main advantage is a small footprint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use!
Yes, this machine has a fax/phone switch. It's a button actually.Maybe some should read the owners manual before posting reviews on a product.Cartridges are about 29-34 dollars for a pk of 2 where I live. And, yeah it will run thru a lot of cartridges, if you use it daily as a copier!I use mine once a week, and mainly for faxes. Never had problems with this machine!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Buy lots of cartridges!
This thing chews through the thermal transfer cartriges at about $ per cartridge.

3-0 out of 5 stars No phone/fax switch
I didn't even set up the unit because I need the phone/fax switch.I wish this information as well as whether the fax is call waiting compatable was available before I took it home.I will return it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of my time
This machine is absolutely horrible. First thing I noticed when I took it out of the box and set it up is the cheap feel and quality of the materials especially the handset which also did not work properly. I got a lot of static from the handset making it impossible to talk on the phone. Since you need the handset to record the outgoing message for the answer machine I was not able to get a clear message recorded. But that was not the only problem out of the box, I was never able to get a single fax printed because I kept getting paper jams. The print ribbon would get rolled up with the paper and jam the machine. It was a total waste of time. Definitely not worth $180. I had the machine delivered at my office and when the secretary saw it she said "Oh no, you got a Brother, they're nothing but trouble." I only wish I would have talked to her before I ordered it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Error 41 Help
I just ordered my FOURTH replacement from Brother. My original purchase was Sep 2003. After #2 and near the end of the 1yr warrantee, I purchased the extended warrantee which served me well for the $70 (or so) it cost me. Brother assured me that this replacement will have the new-improved printhead. I may renew the extended replacement coverage just in case. I realy like the machine and want to keep it. ERR41: I unplug it, wait, plug it in again and keep using it like this till the replacement arrives.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of JUNK! Fatal error exactly 2 months after warranty.
I bought this printer for a friend. It was refurbished, but it still had a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. The printer worked flawlessly for the most part within the warranty timeframe. Some two months ago it began complaining that some of the inks were low, even if they were full or new. Just weeks after the ink problems, the machine displays on its LCD "MACHINE ERROR 41... CALL BROTHER". Having come on this website by accident while researching this error, I am surprised at the amount of people with the same problem. Now I am convinced this is all made intentionally, no way something completely stops working immediately after the warranty. Repair costs are simply not worth it at $150 to $200 dollars. The most ingeniously evil plot about this error is that, in essence it blocks the whole machine from being used. Can't print, scan, fax, copy - nothing. The only thing you can do is throw it into the trash if you don't want to dish out cash to fix it. Absolutely evil machine, along with its creators. Never Brother again, they clearly encase rigged errors to poop the device after the warranty. Next I will go with Canon, maybe HP if the price is right. But HP tends overprice their printers way too much, and for the longest time they did not even offer borderless printing like Canon did for a much lower price with their machines.

1-0 out of 5 stars With a Brother like this, who needs another enemy?
I received the ink empty message, only a million times. Before the ink was empty, when the ink was empty, and after the ink was replaced and FULL!I finally got that cleared and almost exactly one month after warranty expiration, I received, 'Machine Error 41'!I think it's rigged. There's no burn ban where I live, so I'll get some satisfaction out of saying, 'BURN, BABY, BURN'!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sigh, another victim
I use google and type in Brother looking for their website or some info on a machine error 41. No luck. I go to Amazon, as I assure myself someone will have the Brother Customer service line or some kind of helpful hints on how to fix my issue. What do I see....Machine Error 41 on almost every review. Just hilarious. I've been suckered and have 100$ of worthless ink and a piece of junk sitting on my desk. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE!

4-0 out of 5 stars I got error 41 but replacement service was excellent
I bought my 4420c printer in Oct 2003 and had no trouble at all for the first 9 months, through reams of printer paper. Then when using it for an increased amount of printing than usual, I got the message Error 41.After a little trial and error with the same result, I called Brother and they sent me out a replacement, a 4820c instead.I got the package in 2-3 days, with a mailing label and instructions to pack up my 4420c in the same box and have it picked up.Initially I thought this better model was just a loaner while mine was to be fixed, so after I didn't hear from them I called them. They said I got the 4820c because they didn't have any 4420cs, and that it was a swap, not a loaner. So I was very lucky, but in their defense, I have had the 4820c (which they warrantied until the end of my original 1 yr.warranty) now for 6 months with no problems. It's a much better machine, and if it lasts a reasonable period of time (like at least several years),I would certainly take another chance on them, based on their service.I'm sorry others had such a bad experience. Maybe some heads rolled. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Brother PPF560 provides several services, combining a plain-paperpersonal fax machine with telephone and copy functions. It sports a compactdesign with bold, clearly marked operating features and is equipped with aconvenient telephone handset. It also has a 50-page standard paper cassettetray. Additional advantages include the copy function, which lets you make up to99 copies at a time, and the 50-number memory for automatic dialing.

We set up the Brother PPF560 in minutes without reference to the owner's manual, thanks to a simple design and intuitive operation. Still, to get the benefits ofextensive features, we recommend following Brother's well-detailed instructionsfor programming in its thorough manual. You'll also need that information toremotely retrieve messages, pages, and faxes. We also recommend perusal of theguide for setting up the fax unit on lines with an external answering machine orwith numbers that roll over. Note that phone lines using call waiting or voicemail may run into trouble operating this fax unit.

The handset is very lightweight and tapered, and the automatic fax-phone switchlets you make calls and receive faxes through the same phone line. The fax unitlets you know when you have a voice call by emitting double rings. The receiverdelivers clear, clean sound. The unit supports caller ID and distinctive ring(when you subscribe through your phone service provider). The automatic documentfeeder can accommodate 10 pages at a time. The 16-digit LCD displays clear, bright numbers and messages. The ring volume is adjustable from mute to loud, which is fortunate, because the PPF560 has a jarring tone. The phone index foralphabetical search of stored numbers is a great convenience, as is theautomatic redial, delayed transmission and hold buttons. Making copies takes theclick of one button; enlargements and reductions must be keyed in. The BrotherPPF560 is supported by a 90-day warranty. --Barbara Price

Pros:

  • Remote access to faxes and messages
  • Unique ring identifies incoming voice calls
  • Copier capabilities

5-0 out of 5 stars Brother well worth it!
The fax machine works great!I bought the fax machine back in August 2003 and I haven't had any problems. And you can buy the roll of film cheap on the internet. So if you are considering buying this fax machine, you decided on a good choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for Personal Use
This is a great little machine for personal use. Very user friendly. OK, so the quality of the copies and incoming faxes is fair at best, but they're quite passable and legible, and for personal use, you really don't need any better than that. Besides, I don't make copies or receive faxes all that often, anyway. I primarily use it to send faxes, and it does an excellent job of that.

Overall, for the price, I don't think there's a better personal fax machine out there. However, although I didn't find a better price than Amazon's, I didn't get my PPF560 from Amazon. I got mine from Staples.com. Their price was only a few cents different from Amazon's, and they don't charge for shipping on orders over a certain dollar amount.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this fax/copier!
I have had this fax machine for about two years now and have had NO problems with it what-so-ever!I am VERY impressed with this machine and think it is worth every penny. When sending a fax, you can set the resolution to normal, fine, super fine or photo. I have it set up next to my answering machine and also have distinctive ring on it.Has not once missed a fax or picked up a voice call. And, although it doesn't have a collection tray for received faxes, I have it sitting on a side coffee table (next to my answering machine) so that the faxes end up laying in front of it on the table.I've also used the copy feature on it many times and have always been impressed with it. I also bought a new toner cartridge right away as it says the one that comes with it is not full size.I have not had to replace the one I bought yet and still get perfect fax images and it is used fairly frequently.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this fax!
I bought this fax because every now and then I needed one and had to go use one somewhere. This is perfect for home. It's small and very easy to use. Also very easy to set up. For the price, everyone should have one.

5-0 out of 5 stars great price for a fax machine that works

3-0 out of 5 stars Good plain-paper fax, for low-volume use only
I wanted a plain-paper fax machine so I wouldn't have to buy special paper. At the time, this machine was getting the best reviews for the price, so I bought it. It works flawlessly, and has all the features I wanted, but the ink sure costs a lot: $35 for an 11ml cartridge, vs. $30 for a 42ml cartridge for my HP printer.

So the moral is, check the price of ink before you buy any inkjet device, and be sure to set the device to its ink saver mode.

4-0 out of 5 stars The truth about ink cost
I visited Sharp's web site to read the "detailed specs" for this machine. Sharp says it makes 600 copies per ink cartridge if you set the machine to "ink save" (it is not preset that way) and if ink coverage is 4% (which is typical of a text document but not a photograph). In that case, each page costs 6 cents since the cartridge is $35. (They say the free cartridge that comes with the machine is only half full.) This cost seems reasonable for the average user. If you receive a lot of faxes, you might consider spending $200 - $300 to get a laser fax, which prints pages for 2 - 3 cents each.

1-0 out of 5 stars The most expensive way to receive faxes I know of.
Pros:
Reasonably fast
Quiet
No jams

Cons:
Goes through ink at an astonishing rate and the tiny cartridges are $41.79 at the local office super store!

I bought this fax for my home office. It receives relatively light use, so you can imagine my shock when my wife informed me we had just used up our 3rd $40+ cartridge! That's over $120!!Great machine... Wish I could afford it.

1-0 out of 5 stars This thing will bleed you to death
The functionality of the fax machine is fine. It may be adequate for the very occasional user. However, I only get 150 to 200 page yield in the ink save mode. The replacement cartridges are outrageously expensive and you are forced to use OEMs.I've had this unit less than a year and have spent much more on carts than I did on the machine. This machine is headed for the garage sale.If someone offered you one for free, just say no.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great machine for the money
I've been using this machine for several months now and I'm quite pleased with it.I have yet to have a paper jam, even though I've placed more than the specified 20 pages in the send tray. The output is selectable as to quality (in order to save ink) and even the lowest quality printing is fine for everyday use.The machine has several nice attributes, fast 14,400 transmission speed (many small machines are slower), small footprint and intutitive controls. The instruction book is easy to read and follow, but the basic functions are so intuitive that you really don't need to use the book unless you're doing something out of the ordinary.

Contrary to another reviewer's comments, ink cost per page is only about 7 cents. That's a far cry from the 70-80 cents the other gentleman was claiming; perhaps he got his decimal place mixed up!

As with most inkjet machines, the ink cartridge supplied with the machine is only a "starter" cartridge and has limited capacity.Be sure to buy a replacement cartridge so you won't be left without.

This is my third home office fax and it's the best yet, surpassing a previous HP and a slower Sharp machine. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Loved it at first, but problems develop
I bought this printer a little over 2 years ago.At first I loved it, especially having a flatbed scanner on top.Now it has developed a problem where every time I try to scan or copy it has a "scanner failure".I usually can get it to work after unplugging it and then doing a scan without anything actually on the glass.Unfortunately I have found this is a common problem (try typing - hp psc scanner failure -into a search engine and see what comes up!).For this reason my next all-in-one will not be HP.Check out the reviews for the Canon multifunciton machines, they look much better!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for B&W, Subpar for color
This printer/scanner works great for B&W and greyscale images. But when printing or scanning color images the colors are off.I've tried replacing the ink cartridges to no avail.

I used the printers test page to print out a test image.I then used the copy feature to copy this test page and the copy's color did not match the original's colors. When scanning images, the color hues are become much darker (blue becomes dark blue, maroon becomes purple) or just plain incorrect (yellow becomes orange).

Printing is slightly better, but the colors are still off.

I'll recommend this printer if you do mostly black and white printing, scanning and copying or if you don't care if your colors match exactly.Otherwise look elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars Works great, but only at first
I do have to agree that this product works great at first. The print quality and scan quality are quite good for what you pay. However, I work for a small office and we have roughly 50 of these machines in the office. We've had them about a year and a half now, and are already considering replacing them.More than half of the machines no longer have the ability to scan, the drivers get kind of hairy when trying to print from IE, and the color cartrideges need replaced every few months even though they virtually never get used, you can't use the printer without them. We've also had to replace several of them because they stopped functioning at all.Overall, I wouldn't recommend this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars HP PSC 1350 - and bugs
I bought this printer recently and followed the instructions to install it. However, I have two problems now. The first is that if I do not turn off the printer when the computer is off, upon re-start I get error messages at a very low level and the computer will not boot up. Fortunately, when I turn off the printer and re-start the computer, then every thing seems ok.
The second problem is that something happened to my MS IE 6, I can now no longer have the Home page I want and invariably while surfing I just get a blank page. It is really frustrating as many of my applications (like Home Banking) are no longer working. Although the printer prints well, I would not recommend it until something is done about their installation software.

2-0 out of 5 stars Scanner/copier dead
After 1 year the scanner/copier functions stopped working.I called the supplier and was told it was probably broke and would cost more to repair than buy a new one.I don't think so!The next multi-function printer I purchase will not be an HP. ... Read more

The Brother Personal FAX275 combines important small-business faxfeatures in a freestanding home fax machine that's equipped with a convenienttelephone handset. Sporting a compact design with bold and clearly markedoperating features, the FAX275 prints on a ThermaPlus paper roll aided by anautomatic paper cutter. Additional advantages include a 10-page automaticdocument feeder and 25-station automatic dialing.

The FAX275 was easy to set up and took only minutes without referring to theowner's manual, though we recommend perusal of the manual if you're setting upthe machine up on a line with a phone that has an external answering machine oron a line with numbers that roll over. (Note that phone lines using call waitingor voice mail may run into trouble operating the FAX275.)

The handset is very lightweight and comfortable with a tapered design. In ourtests, it delivered very clear, clean sound. The automatic fax-phone switch madeit easy to place calls and receive faxes through the same phone line. The FAX275supports caller ID and distinctive ring if offered through your phone serviceprovider.

The unit's faxes were clear and easy to read. In order to avoid curling faxes, the FAX275 uses ThermaPlus paper, which is not as convenient as plain paper butperformed well compared to most roll-type fax papers. The 16-digit LCD displayedclear, bright numbers and messages. The FAX275's ringer was unpleasantlyjarring, but the ring volume was easily to adjust.

The phone index for alphabetical search of stored numbers is a greatconvenience, as is the automatic redial, delayed transmission, and hold button. The FAX275 includes a starter roll of ThermaPlus paper and a 90-day warranty.
