Amazon.com Product Description

Early Adopters Pick: August 2003. The first PDA to include integrated GPS technology.

With the power of Palm OS 5 and the dependability of Garmin GPS technology, this super PDA redefines multitasking. Its integrated software not only allows you to look up appointments and contacts, it also locates and routes you to them with voice-guidance commands. Feature highlights include: GPS receiver, MP3 player, voice recorder, infrared communication, and vibrating alarm.

GPS
The differentiating feature of the iQue 3600 is its integrated GPS capabilities. Garmin's innovative Que technology delivers location awareness, electronic mapping, automatic route calculation, turn-by-turn voice guidance, and map data interface to the iQue 3600. Que technology enables users to see where they are, find a street address, know where the next turn is via visual and voice guidance, get back on track when they’ve strayed off course, and navigate efficiently to their desired destination.

Detailed Mapping
Users can choose a configurable basemap of North America, South America, Europe, or regions in the Pacific Rim, with generalized information on highways, major city streets, highway exit services, railways, rivers, lakes, and state, provincial, and national borders. The iQue also has the added benefit of detailed street information on the included MapSource® CD-ROM, giving users the capability of looking up restaurant addresses, hotels, local attractions, transportation hubs, emergency services, and much more. Once a desired point of interest is chosen, you have the capability to view more info or even show it on the map screen. The mapping capability of the iQue 3600 makes it a versatile companion for the international frequent flyer who travels, for instance, between New York and London or San Francisco and Hong Kong.

Customizable maps mean never getting lost again

Powerful Organization
The iQue 3600 is built around the Palm OS 5 platform and offers standard Palm applications, such as Address Book, Calculator, Date Book, Memo Pad, and To Do List. And there’s enough processing power to search large databases of stored information and to enhance display graphics with easy-to-read fonts and crisp electronic maps. There's also a voice recorder for making memos, quick notes, and messages. With 32 MB of built-in memory and an expansion slot, you can even store your favorite MP3s.

The flip-up GPS antenna
High-Tech Integration
One of the key benefits of technology integration on the iQue 3600 is its patent-pending contact-locator feature. Enabled by Garmin's Que technology, this feature connects the Palm Address Book and Date Book to the GPS electronic map to give the user the ability to navigate directly to a specific address within the user’s contact database.

System
The Garmin iQue 3600 features the new Motorola DragonBall MXL ARM9 microprocessor, and boasts 32 MB DRAM. This handheld is powered by Palm OS 5, which offers the processing power to take on the most demanding mobile computing tasks, together with advanced multimedia and the wireless connectivity and security that enterprises require.

Display
The iQue 3600 delivers brilliant images with its 2.16-by-3.24-inch display. It has a 16-bit color display with 320 x 480 pixel resolution.

Expansion
Expand your iQue 3600 via its Secure Digital slot.

Software
The iQue 3600 comes with the following Garmin Que applications: MP3, GPS Clock, Address Lookup, Electronic Mapping, Track Log, Trip Computer, Automatic Route Generation, and Turn-by-Turn Voice Guidance, as well as these Palm OS 5 applications: Address Book, Calculator, Date Book, Expense, Mail, Memo Pad, Palm Reader, and To Do List. In addition, it includes these third-party applications: Astraware Game Pack, Documents to Go, powerOne Personal Calculator, StarCaddy, SplashPhoto, and Vindigo.

2-0 out of 5 stars It is hard to deal with curstomer service
If you want to buy it, just hope it won't show "route calculation error".Here is the email I sent to them last year and I am still waiting for reply.

"Howdy!
I called two times hoping to find answers of "route calculation error".Unfortunately the problem still exists.
For the first time I used my new iQue 3600 during my trip to San Antonio, TX on August 6 to August 8, 2004.I was amazed at the functions the small one offered. It helped me a lot, especially in the downtown area.On my way back to home, the iQue stopped working and the "route calculation error" appeared on the screen.I had big trouble to find home back.
After I got home, I called tech support and after several attempts I was told to reload the map. After reloading the map, the route calculation error disappeared temporarily.
Today, August 24, I received my friend's new address and I couldn't route to her address and "route calculation error" appeared again.
Today's customer specialist, Doug, after several attempts, still suggested to reload the map.To me it is not an option anymore to solve the problem.I can not reload the map all the time, especially when I am away on road without my computer. If I knew that I would need to reload the map so often, I would not buy it in the first place.
Anyway you know your products better than me.I hope the problem can be solved quickly, otherwise I have to request the return of the product either to the store or to Garmin.
Thank you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Product, but does have some faults.
I bought this unit several months ago in anticipation of trip to Italy because of the detailed maps available through Garman. Well, the street detail was breathtaking! Venice is a very complex city with alleys & tiny streets that are bunched together in an impossible maze. As long a I got a clear signal (a drawback of any GPS unit)I knew EXACTLY where I was. Walking directions were right on.
But, back stateside I started seeing some limitations with the unit: 1) Driving directions were not that great, taking you on round about routes in spite of requesting the least # of turns and/or highways (not side streets), 2) the battery life is terribly short and needs to be put back onto the cradle for re-charging, 3) it's a rather fragile unit - I'm somewhat of a klutz from time to time and have dropped the unit which then needed to be reset.
The PDA part of this unit was a welcome bonus. I purchased a 1GB memory card which gave me the maps I needed plus plenty of extra memory. I loaded Pocket Quicken on it which enables me to keep track of my personal finances away from my desktop. Overall - worth the investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product
Really nice product and worth every cent.I own a Garmin StreetPilot and have used a Palm PDA so I found this really easy to use.The ability to drag maps around to find places is amazing.

The integrated PDA functionality really adds value.A must for anyone in sales that travels (you could actually know where your taxi is going and where to find dinner in any city).

If you are just doing navigation for your car you could just go with a StreetPilot - a bit easier to use.My third great GPS from Garmin.

PS. Some of my kids first words in the car "turn right daddy" - copying my nav systems audio - Dad's car talks!

4-0 out of 5 stars User for 9 months
My 3600 GPS did not work the first time and was returned. After a new one was sent, it started working well. There are two detailed manuals which you should study (I downloaded and studied while I was waiting for delivery). For clarification on their 'too detailed instructions' I had to call their service about 5 times each spending 20 minutes on hold. Now that I have had it I can't do without. It is accurate 9 out of 10 new addresses I enter so don't trust it 100%.I use it everywhere (East coast and West coast).I use it to get to any new address and very valuable even trying to get out of a large parking lot after I arrive. After 3 months I started to use it to find shops and eatery while on the road.If you don't remember exactly a specific address, you can get there if you remember a store close by.The unit requires a soft reset every few weeks. The biggest plus is that you never lose your addresses because you sync it up with your home computer. There is a selection of 'fastest path or shortest distance' which could be confusing if selected wrong.I realize there are other GPS which are more costly, longer battery life with larger fonts but for the money it is the greatest product since the PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product and very useful.
I moved to a new city and bought this PDA upon my friends recommendation and I must say that I am very pleased with it. It has been of great help to me when I get lost or am exploring new areas of the city.

So far I have had no issues with it. I highly recommend this to anybody. The only thing I'd suggest is to get a car kit and antenna so that it does not attract prying eyes while driving. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nonexistant support, missing wines, and tecnical glitches
I purchased this software (2004 version) for an HP Windows-based PDA in Decemeber.Upon installation, I was alerted to the fact that the software was written for an ealier version of the Windows PDA software, and that certain aspects of the software may not function correctly.Sure enough, there were some technical glitches- not too serious, but enough to be annoying.

Emails to LandWare tech support went (and have still gone) unanswered.

In order to try and remedy the glitches, the 2005 upgrade was purchased directly from the LandWare web site. This failed to fix the problems, and the same error message was received upon installation about it being programmed for an earlier windows version.

In addition, the library of wines is incomplete and does not include listings from the actual Wine Enthusiast magazines printed up until the 2005 version was released. This is contrary to Landware's claim of up-to-date listings and reviews.

I just have to reiterate how downright disgustingly terrible LandWare's customer support is.If it were better, it might excuse some of the software shortcomings.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Content but Beware Copy Protection and Support
CONTENT - 5 STARS

The Wine Enthusiast's PDA Guide 2004 Edition is an incredibly useful program and very appropriate for a PDA. If you are new to wines, it will guide you through the learning process and help you avoid disappointing purchases. If you like to explore new vintners and new vintages, it's a great tool to take with you when shopping at the local wine merchant. And if you're out at dinner and you're overwhelmed by the wine list, this is exactly what you need to cut through the clutter and pick the perfect beverage.

The reviews are numerous (over 10,000), but brief and to the point. It will easily group wines by variety, price, rating, style and region. You can even use it to maintain your personal tasting notes and cellar inventory.

TECHNICAL - 2 STARS

The Guide has some nice technical features. You can beam information to other PDA users and even store the program on a removable memory card. But because of the small memory footprint it occupies, you may not have to take advantage of that feature. The installation is straightforward.

HOWEVER, the poorly designed copy protection scheme can be a real problem. And unfortunately, the documentation is silent on this. When you install the program from the CD or purchase an activation code after downloading the Guide from LandWare, the program links the Guide, the activation code and the owner's name as listed on your PDA. This is not a problem unless you modify the PDA owner's name. In my case I simply added my middle initial. Any change, even in case, will invalidate the install and cause the program to deny entrance and ask you to purchase a new license. So rather than linking the copy protection to a serial number on the CPU or some other element of the PDA hardware, LandWare chose to link it to a user-changeable field and didn't bother to warn you not to change that field. This is very poor design, not something a technologist would have created. Maybe marketing designed it?

SUPPORT - 0 STARS

I contacted LandWare for assistance and was told the following:

1) The software is licensed to a specific user for one PDA. Aside from the fact this is contrary to their license agreement (installation on one PDA at a time and create one backup copy), my Axim 3i, like most PDAs, is not multi-user capable unless you count handing it from person to person.

2) Initially, they were unwilling to help me because I had not sent in my warranty card. The fact that one had not been included in the sealed CD case I received from Amazon and that there is no way to register online did not seem to matter.

3) Because I had purchased the Guide from a third party (Amazon), and not downloaded it from their site, I would have to fax them a Xerox of my CD and the authorization number before they would try to help me gain access to the Guide and the data I had already entered, even though I had the authorization number and CD I had originally used to install.

4) I suggested in a very nice way that I understood why they had copy protection and that for future releases perhaps they should consider linking the copy protection to something inside the PDA like a serial number or configuration that doesn't change. And if that was not workable, that they at least warn people not to modify the username field on their PDA. I received a curt response that I can best characterize as "Shut up and sit down. We own it and this is the way we do it."

In the end I did a hard reset and reloaded my applications to get the Guide to properly reinstall. And of course I lost all of my tasting comments and cellar data from the Guide.

BOTTOM LINE AVERAGE - 2 STARS

It's great content, but LandWare stumbles on poorly designed copy protection and weak support. The Wine Enthusiast is a great magazine and I am very excited to see them produce this product. I just wish that had chosen someone else to produce and support it.

Caveat Emptor. Know what you are buying and the risks involved. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT BUY IPAQS!
Product is overpriced for its chintzy characteristics. Looks really nice, but as they say,"looks can be deceiving".I bet 90 percent of the iPaqs out there that have been purchased from 2003 through the present date are either completely useless or are in some need of repair and 99 percent of those broken are most likely not the fault of the purchaser.Hp/Compaq has a HUGE problem with screens (as you can read from the other hundreds of negative postings on Amazon alone).Mine was very well taken care of and lasted about as long as everyone else's has (5-6 months).I even purchased the extended warranty plan, in which you have no way of proving that you did not drop the unit. SOL! My suggestion: file a complaint with your local attorney general. That'll scare HP! (oh wait, they dont care because they are overseas in another country).

3-0 out of 5 stars Love the unit but super fragile.
When I started using the HP1945 it was the ultimate timesaver for me, especially the Outlook Contacts. I loved the design and the way it worked. After one week of use, the screen cracked just from being in my shirt pocket, and the unit was useless. I was lucky and able to return it as defective to the store I bought it from, and get a refund. I will be searching for a similar, but sturdier PDA.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good if no problems, terrible customer service
I bought my IPAQ 1945 in Feb of 2004 and after six months of great use the screen started flickering.I sent it in and was told that "You have spilled water on it and it will cost $190 to replace the screen."(a rude way to put it even if true). I knew it was not true but apparently had no recourse.Either pay up or do without. Now after going six month's without a PDA I'm getting ready to buy another and I just can't make myself get another HP.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but never great; the fatally flawed Clinton of PDA's
The HP1945 is a very good idea, with some serious problems. I've just ordered my third one. The first one lasted a month, the screen cracked, and after arm-twisting, HP replaced it. The second one lasted 14 months. This one is out of warranty, so I didn't bother with HP. It appears that the power supply went and fried the circuit board. (At least the blazingly hot spot on the casing and the near-instantaneous power drain of the lithium cell makes me suspect that.)

So why am I ordering a third one. a) I'm an idiot, b) I'm an optimist, or c) The 1945 just happens to do exactly what you need a PDA to do, perfectly, with no extra baggage?

[sigh] I'm afraid it's all three. This liitle machine is compact, versatile, efficient, and does exactly what I need it to do. Then it breaks far to soon, and really ticks me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars experience with iPAQ 1945 model
Regarding the iPAQ 1945:

FWIW:I have been using this iPAQ model with Outlook 2002 and Microsoft ActiveSync with a Windows XP Professional machine for quite some time now (1 year? if forget).Sync'ing is not a problem (reported elsewhere), either with the direct cable or using Bluetooth.Considering how big a pain windows can be in general, there is probably something else going on with the reported problem of windows sync'ing and the iPAQ 1945.I have never had a problem with that feature.

For the price, the device has been a pretty good piece of equipment and I have become addicted to the basic capabilities it provides. If I shopped around some more, I am sure there would be more powerful devices available, but this one is a good price and capability combination. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable
I need a palm to have my calander and address book on hand at all times. This model proved to be extremely inefficient. The lack of backlighting meant that often I could not see what was on the screen and it's memory would empty from one moment to the next. I would be stuck with no calander or address book. I contacted the company by email and the only advice they had was to keep the Palm seperate from my cell phone. This I did, to no avail, the Palm continues to discharge it's memory.
I have now discharged the Palm into the rubbish bin and will not purchase another!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Item
I don't know what people expect when they buy this item, but for me, it was to keep addresses, phone numbers and download my outlook calendar. If that is all you expect, then this is perfect. For those people who live and die by the palm gadgets, then get yourself one of those expensive palms. Zire is cheap and convenient enough to take it anywhere you want and you don't get upset when you bang it around a bit.I had it for about a year and zero complaints. Also, the battery lasts extremely long for my purpose. So, if you are a simple guy like me, then this is perfect for you.If you are expecting a small computer, then you need to spend some money.Hope this helps.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent product - horrible support!
I bought this Palm as a cheap contact manager - that's what I got - I knew what I was getting into. However, a word regarding Palm support...

After a couple months - the screen went completely black and I needed to call tech support. What a nightmare. It's obvious to anyone that Palm has exported its help desk overseas (India most likely). The five different support engineers I talked to ALL had very thick accents, could not understand simple English sentences, could not make logical decisions (they follow a very formal script) and made the whole experience VERY frustrating, time consuming and expensive (they don't have a toll-free number anymore). The point is simple - sooner or later you're probably going to call tech support for help - and in my opinion, the "help" desk at Palm is horrible!

5-0 out of 5 stars great entry level PDA
the Palm Zire is probably the best entry level PDA available. i've had mine for a while and its great, holds my schedule, contacts, my notes, a few small games, and is my alarm clock and it has great battery life. since its not realy fancy you don't get a big back lit color screen, or voice recording, or a gaming machine. But its great. the only thing i didn't like was the flip cover it comes with. but guess what... spend like 12$ to get a nicer one and its realy the best thing you can have.

at work I regulalry use a PocketPC with a barcode scanner and I hate it, its slow, bulky, won't recognize my writing well, and is prone to porblems

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, for some.
Ok people, consider this phrase, ENTRY LEVEL PDA. The Palm Zire is an entry level PDA. I'm still in highschool, and it works great for what I need. It has all the basic features I need, an address book, datebook, and a calculator, plus a lot of other features. Plus I can download additional programs from the Palm website for free! Some other reviews on this site complain about the amount of memory. Sure, if your going to store five hundred addresses and tasks and put a million programs on it, its gonna be to little. But if you only need it for school or for light use, then its perfect. Also, the fact that it is cheap helps too. (I got mine used for under thirty bucks.) I currently have Pong, Battleship, a school planner, a joke book, an animation program, a sketch program, an Asteroids game, a database program, a diary, a Merlin game, a miniature version of Word, and a solitare game on my Zire, and that only used two thirds of the memory (with all the included programs on the Zire too). The included cover isn't that great, but it is better than nothing, and what do you expect for something that was included for free? All in all, this is a great product for anyone who just needs a decent, affordable PDA.

Update: I've now had this handheld for a couple of months and still no problems. And I'm the second owner, and still no problems. I'm currently looking to upgrade to something with color and a backlight, possibly the Zire 31, but I'll definetly be keeping my good buddy the Zire. ... Read more

I bought this 512MB Micro drive here for price and his rating. True to his word, I received the drive in record time and it functions great. I would recommend this seller to everyone. I look forward to future purchases. Thanks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Some good titles
It's a pretty good card. All of the titles are fairly easy to learn how to play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Fun Bunch of Games!
I love a lot of the games on this card...I didn't expect to be hooked...but I am...I thought Atum was dorky when I saw it but I've spent many a late night connecting the little molecules...Checkers is fun but the Zire 71 I've been using it on chokes in any level higher than level 1 - it takes the computer awhile to compute its move in levels 2-5. I've enjoyed Mah Jong although the tiles are a little hard to read and some look alike and I've read elsewhere it isn't real Mah Jong, but I don't know the difference. :-) The casino games I've played briefly but they aren't as much fun. Pool is nice but you quickly learn to beat the Palm, even on more difficult levels. And of course, SimCity is cool and it is pretty expansive. I've never played it on a regular computer before, but it was really detailed (in my opinion) and was pretty fast....All in all, I think the card will keep you happily occupied during long waits at the bank, post office, and airports...

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun and a Good Deal, Too!
One of my favorite computer games is Shanghai: Second Dynasty. The version on this card is obviously derived form that version of Shanghai. It really looks beautiful with the green embossed tiger and dragon background. I miss the cool music and the fortune cookie, but you can't have everything. I would try putting together some nice Chinese music on mp3's to play in the background, if mp3's didn't use so much RAM. (As an aside, I appreciate that Activision and Landware don't call it Mah Jong. This is NOT Mah Jong! Stop calling this type of game Mah Jong!!! Mah Jong is completely different.) I tried SimCity and it seems to be fairly close to the full computer version, but I haven't really used it very much, yet. The Atum game is very addictive. It can also be very frustrating when it gives you a long string of the same atum. I have had a bit of difficulty using the backgammon game. It doesn't seem to work in a very intuitive way. The checkers is fine - if checkers is your thing - it works pretty much like I expected. I can't say how smart it is, since I'm not an expert. The chess is pretty basic. I bought a more specialized separate chess game that has a lot more features, but it cost half the price of this whole card. I'm not much for slot machines, poker or blackjack, so I won't comment on those. Ricochet is a very cool looking brick breaking game. It is very nicely done. The only thing I don't like is that the background is almost as dark colored as the bricks, so sometimes the bricks are hard to see and I'm using a Tungsten T that has a pretty nice screen. 9-Ball is a fairly decent pinball game. Pinball is the one type of game that just doesn't work well on a Palm. I've tried all the versions I can find and 9-ball is one of the best. But, that's not saying much. I guess the computing power required for really good pinball is still too much for Palm machines. Strangely, though, the Billiards game does work well. Surprisingly well! And it actually has good sound effects! Not bad! Okay. So, all together that's 12 games. Several really good ones, a couple so-so. I guess it's not such a bad deal. What I realy like is that it doesn't use up my precious RAM. Figuring in the value of a small SD card, the Palm Game Essentials Card is actually a pretty good deal! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Love mine, but there are some problems
I bought my UX-50 off eBay for about half the going rate of a refurbished new unit. Since I paid so little, I really don't have much to complain about. However, if I had paid $500 for a new-refurbished unit - or $800 for a brand-new unit when the UX-50s were first released - I probably would not have given a 4-star review.

Here are the positives:
- I don't understand why so many people complain about the UX-50 only having a "landscape" screen option. I got used to using the landscape screen in no time. There are third-party programs you can download to convert some applications to portrait mode if you want, but I really didn't feel the need. Granted, the landscape screen means there's a lot of wasted space on the touchscreen, but I didn't have any problems using the screen as-is. I also think the screen size is AWESOME considering the features packed into this little gadget.
- The functionality is, without a doubt, amazing. The UX-50 can replace your keychain digital camera, digital voice recorder, PDA, MP3 player AND you can check your e-mail with it! They managed to pack a lot of features into this little PDA.
- Sound on the MP3 player is great. I have a Sony VAIO laptop that has a built-in Memory Stick port so it's really easy for me to put a ton of music onto my 512 MB stick and have music wherever I go. I have a Nomad MP3 player but I rarely use it because the UX-50's MP3 player is so easy to use.
- The camera is great and takes good pictures in enough light. The zoom feature is neat.
- The PDA functionality is exactly what you'd expect - it works well. The UX-50 has enough internal memory for you to load lots of programs into it.

Negatives:
- It took me a lot of tinkering and research to get the 802.11B wireless feature to work. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the wireless connection software in most UX-50s, and if yours has the problem you have to download a special program, called Mobile Manager, to get it to work correctly. Not that Sony tells you this - I had to research it for myself on user bulletin boards. After a LOT of tweaking my wireless works - sometimes. The mobile browser, NetFront, won't load graphics-heavy pages and is quick to give "insufficient memory" and timeout errors. Unfortunately there's no way to upgrade NetFront 3.0, which came with the UX-50, to NetFront 3.1.
- Battery life truly does suck. I solved this by purchasing a third-party manufactured case and car kit off of eBay - the case has a USB port integrated, so now I can plug the USB sync cable into the case's port and charge my Clie. The car kit consists of a USB cable and an adapter that fits my car's cigarette lighter. Now I can charge wherever I go, which helps greatly with the battery life issue. And I don't have to use the stupid "charging sled" to do it. Which brings me to my next point...
- I would really like to know why Sony made a PDA that you can't charge with a USB cable. It seems ridiculous to me. Before I found the USB-port case I had to lug the stupid charger and sled around with me. The charger is bulky and the sled makes the UX-50 too thick to fit in a pocket or small purse. As it is, now I can't plug the UX-50 in and let it charge while I sync it throughout my workday, which is always what I've done with other PDAs. This was a really dumb design idea.
- The only other negative thing is that some parts of the UX-50 feel flimsy - I often feel like I am going to break the screen off rotating it back and forth, and the USB sync port has a small cover that feels like it could rip off at any time.

Overall, though, this is a great productivity tool and very nifty to carry around. It has a considerable "cool factor" and there's great functionality to boot. The negatives are bummers, but this thing is basically a mini laptop computer with a camera built in, so I don't expect everything to be perfect. I'm just bummed Sony's no longer going to be selling PDAs in the U.S. - hopefully they will change their minds before my UX-50 dies or becomes obsolete.

4-0 out of 5 stars Attack of the Chimera PDA
Wow, what a device. I was impressed with this PDA on steriods from the moment I pulled it out of the box. Normally I am dissapointed when I purchase a new gadget. It either doesn't work as advertised or it is so convoluted that I excile it to the land of misfit toys. This PDA though comes through on all of its promised features. With a respectable digital photo, video and audio capability combined with 802.11 wireless, bluetooth, Infra Red as well as USB data interface capability, what more could a PDA require. To be fair and balanced, The UX-50 does have a few issues that detract from its status as PDA nirvana. One is its fragility. I feel like I am holding a delicate piece of bone china everytime I use it. Additionally, I am very dissapointed in Sony and their decision to get out of the PDA business, and just when they seemed to get it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
It seems like most of the software built-in or bundled with the Clie is either limited or requires a paid upgrade for full functionality.

Playing MP3's is a headache, transferring music, is only possible with the pro or magicgate versions of memory sticks, unless you use a third party player.

Printing, is not readily supported from most applications either, unless you transfer the file to a desktop.

Another complaint I have is not being able to transfer, print, or otherwise use Clie Memo files (handwritten notes) on anything but another Clie.I use a lot of handwritten notes in my work, and aside from being able to read them back on the screen, the information cannot be stored, shared or printed.

Using Bluetooth for Syncing works well, but file transfer isnt always possible.

The Browser that ships with the UX50 is out of date and impossible to update (version 3.0) while it does work, 3.1 offers a lot better functionality and viewability.Checking web based e-mail is not supported by the current browser either.

The ux50 is not a bad PDA, but don't expect it to work well out of the box.there are a lot of third-party programs out there to work out a lot of the "bugs" but be prepared to pay more for them.

My advice to someone looking for a pda is to check out the PEG -TH55(also from sony)Its got most of the same features (minus the keyboard)and a much larger viewable screen area

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice toy.. definitely not worth the $
Bought a UX50 used off eBay. Have had it for about a month. I would pay 400$ max for a used one. Now that Sony has stopped the entire Clie line, you should find them cheap off the internet.

PROS:
- Nice keyboard
- Love the fact that you can listen to music at the same time performing other functions like browsing, email etc (probably an OS5 feature not restricted to this model only)
- The wireless works like a charm right out of the box.
- Great resolution.

CONS:
- Had to soft boot at least 3-4 times already.
- Most apps require portrait mode which the UX50 does not natively support.
- Battery life - 3hrs max if you use the wireless.
- Need an additional memory stick (128MB - 40$)
- Crappy camera - 0.3MP!!! cmon Sony!
- Native doc support restricted to read only.
- Need the docking station to charge, no direct connection to PDA.

Must have software:
- you can enable the landscape mode for most apps using Code Diver. This is a MUST if you want to use the UX50.

(shareware + 10$. Remember to use the latest beta and not the handango version)
- Also I strongly recommend buying Documents to Go and Contacts to Go (add another 75$ to the tag)

Overall, you can end up spending about 1000$ to make this thing really usable, not worth it. But if you dont mind getting a used one cheap off eBay, this is definitely a nice toy. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA if the backlight doesn't burn out
I've had my PDA for about a year and never had a major problem however one month after the extended warantee expired my backlight burned out.The color screen is useless without it.This is a chronic problem with the sony Clie's.They offer very little support for this problem if your expensive pda burns out.A know design flaw that cost as much as the pda to fix.Don't buy a sony Clie if you can't afford to replace the unit after a year.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable junk
This is one of the worst products of any kind that I have ever bought in my entire life. My first one lost power after a month, even though it was charged and never came back on. They tried a new battery, but the gizmo was dead. So, I got the replacement. Heck, there can be a bad apple in every barrel.

The new one had a great deal of difficulty keeping the backlight on. For no apparent reason, it would just not be on when the unit was turned on. Usually holding the power on switch up would start it up. That was until the final day, when it wouldn't come on, dumped all my data and died. This was when it was only three months old. The only thing that restrained me from driving my car over it so that it would be really dead, was the thought that I needed to return it.

In addition, if you should be so foolish as to buy this thing, if it happens inadvertently turn on in your purse or if it rings an alarm for a meeting and you don't hear it, it will stay on until the battery dies.

You've been warned..................

5-0 out of 5 stars Nasriah
It is one of the best out of sony products that you can get.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to my life
I had to retire a palm zire 21 after 2 months because it would reset itself almost every other day. I sent it to the palm guys and it came back in worse condition that before. After reading the reviews on Amazon...I decided to call it quits while I was ahead and search for another PDA. (I had a palm Vx prior to that for 2 years).

WOW! What a jewel the Sony Clie is! It has much more memory than my other two models and for a work at home mom that's using her PDA to keep track of life, recipes, and wants all names and addresses at her fingertips, IN COLOR, this was a WONDERFUL purchase!

For the price (mine was $139), I cannot complain. It is much faster than my other palm pilots, the battery life is great, I don't really care that much about included applications, although the outlook "handler" does a great job (or seems to), and I think Sony really thought out the organization of the main screen on this PDA. A+

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Solid PDA
I picked up my TJ25 a few weeks ago, and I was immediately impressed with the clarity of the screen, the snappiness of the interface, and the connectiblity with Outlook 2k3.

After using it for these few weeks, I have had no problems yet.The battery life is excellent, although i never let it get below half-drained, and it is nice and small, so it can fit in my coat pocket easily.

Very good product from Sony, and, as always, great service from Amazon. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Palm’s Zire brand is designed primarily for consumers rather than for professionals. The first Zire was a low cost, entry level machine, this one, the second in the range, is a multimedia extravaganza. The most eye catching feature of the Zire 71, after you’ve noticed the sleek rounded blue casing for the hardware, is the built-in digital camera.
The Zire 71's built-in digital camera
You need to slide the upper and lower body apart to reveal it, and when you do so the Zire 71’s screen automatically turns into a viewfinder. Click the button that is also revealed during the sliding process, and you can take pictures, at resolutions of 160 x 120, 320 x 240 and 640 x 480.

Palm has even produced a new version of Palm Desktop to help you make the most of managing digital images. This includes a nice viewer and some editing tools. Palm Desktop also, incidentally, has a new installer which is more efficient than before when it comes to selecting multiple applications to send to your Palm. The Zire 71 runs version 5 of the Palm operating system, which has improved sound features. Install the provided copy of the Real One player and you can play MP3 music through headphones. Gaming is assisted by a joystick style navigation button that sits beneath the screen. But when you want to use the Zire 71 for more traditional personal information management tasks you can tap the application shortcut buttons to launch Date Book, Address Book or Note Pad. The fourth button takes you to your digital photo library. As usual these buttons can be reallocated to other applications if you like.

Only 13MB of to the 16MB of memory on board is actually available for applications and data, but an SD card slot means you can add to this easily. The screen is a superb transreflective TFT type – it is the best we’ve seen on a PDA from Palm. The Universal Connector means existing peripherals like keyboards which support this should work without problems with the Zire 71. The Zire 71 is a great multimedia PDA which finally puts Palm in a position to rival Sony for its Multimedia crown. --Sandra Vogel ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Made
My wife and I each bought a Zire 71 and they both failed after about a year. Makes you think the units are made to be disposible. The problem with my wife's was the battery. After a charging it would drain almost immediately. More than likely caused by the camera or joystick(she tried taping the unit shut so it wouldn't slide open but this didn't help). Mine stopped syncing and the touch screen worked eraticly. We owned other Palms which were simpler, better made and lasted longer. The Zire 71 is a disaster!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for 18 months, then went belly up.
The Zire 71 was a pretty good PDA for the first 18 months of its life. The camera was kind of a "wow" feature when I first got it, but the picture quality is poor.I haven't found much use for the camera, but overall the Zire 71 worked pretty well.

The problem is that the touchscreen has gone haywire. It no longer responds appropriately or predictably to the stylus and the PDA has been rendered useless by this problem.Unfortunately it is not worth the $125 that palm charges for non-warranty repair.

3-0 out of 5 stars terrible software and terrible support
I am quite pleased with the handheld itself and have never had any major issues with it. The desktop softare, however, is downright terrible. I can't switch to a yearly or monthly calendar view without having it crash. I have reinstalled several times to no avail.

I contacted tech support but they never seem to understand the problem, insisting I reinstall their software even though that is what I have already told them I've been doing. I filled out a survey telling them I was unhappy because they hadn't been able to solve my problems and never heard from them again.

If a decent competitor arrives on scene with better software, and better tech support, palm will quickly be a thing of the past.

1-0 out of 5 stars FRUSTRATING!!
I loved this when i got it for xmas 2003-- then about a year later, the trouble started.. i had many problems hotsynching with my mac at work, finally worked that out, and then the battery must have been running by being in my purse (the joystick must have been pressed in) and i lost everything on my palm.i had backed up fairly recently and was able to convert alot of my info back on to the unit... then the fun reallystarted! some phantom appeares to be playing with my palm, i will hear click click click and it will be in a loop of toggling beetween functions, or in the calandar it will highlight an event over and over again, and i can not get it to stop.I will turn it off and turn it on, and still the same issue - we did a restart and now it is unusable- the stylus will not respond and it just clicks all over and it is a waste.

I am sad because i really enjoyed the camera function and used it a lot for quick pics to friends and family via email of things that were new in my life.

i will have to find a new pda, and i do not see myself getting another one of these, beware!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Palm has a dirty secret...
This was my first venture into the PDA world and I am sorely dissapointed. For starters the unit is rather large in terms of thickness and adding a protective case only makes it worse. Also the built in software is almost useless, necessitating 50-100 dollars worth of software purchases just to get this thing to do what you want. And lastly, the dirty little secret is that all your data, programs, everything is lost when the battery dies and doing a hotsync will not restore your programs you have to reinstall them from scratch. There is no backup battery!!! I must have lost my data five times before giving up on this piece of trash. Even when the PDA would warn me about power consumption I would turn the unit off and plug it in the next day only to have my data whiped again. I am very surprised that there are no class action lawsuits over this, as I would never have purchased the unit had I known of this flaw.

After having this unit for a month I went out and bought a Dell PDA and have never looked back since. Unlike the Zire it does have a backup battery, so my data is safe for extended periods. I will never buy another palm product again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Lost all memory!
My father and I both got this PDA for Christmas last year. After around a month, his lost everything. It was sent to be fixed, but after another month, it lost its memory again! By this time, mine also was losing its files. Both PDAs were sent to be fixed only to still delete memory. The repair man said not to let their batteries run out all the way, but by this time, the life of one charge would only last a day if I was lucky and that was if it hadn't been on. I would try to turn it on the next day and the screen would be blank. Today, I never use it anymore because it simply will not turn on!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant PDA
Wish it had OS 5 so I could do MP3, but that asside, I have had my SJ22 for over a year and it's wonderful; not a missed beat!!From planning times and fuel for a flight to business, to downloading web stuff from free Avantgo.com, to playing Bridge and Chess, to keeping student records.I love this thing!!!!!!!Battery has great endurance.
My girl friend bought it for $100 after rebate...she thought it wasn't very good but all she could afford....wow, what a find!!!!
I had a Palm 120 and hated it!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my brain
My Clie is the first PDA I've owned, and I've had it for about 2 months now (I bought it on eBay for a nice, cheap price after using Amazon's rating system to decide which PDA I wanted). It was definitely a good purchase, especially if you're looking for basic PDA use. I keep track of everything in it, and have been much more productive as a result.

It is easy to use, and the screen is clear. Battery life seems to be pretty decent, especially when the backlight is not turned up too high. Even on low backlighting the screen is easy to see.

I have downloaded a few programs to it, as well as some books/Bibles. Once you figure out the downloading system, everything flows together pretty smoothly.

I bought a keyboard to go with it. That didn't turn out too well. Amazon matched the wrong keyboard to this Clie, so be careful when buying a keyboard. Make sure that the model you're buying (even if it says "for Sony Clie") actually matches the Clie you have. Amazon doesn't always match things correctly. But I'll be buying another one, which will be useful when I go to graduate school this fall.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this product. I've had to do a couple of hard resets, but I didn't lose anything at all. I don't know whether that's just "beginner's luck" or what. Anyway, this Clie has become my brain. I know where to be and when because of this thing, and I love my brain.

1-0 out of 5 stars It was trash in 13 months due to poor cable connections
Pretty much shopping for a new PDA now cause this one no longer consistently charges when plugged into the charger.Seems like pretty poor cable connections for this to be an issue so early, I'm used to the touchscreens wearing out after a few years.

Otherwise just fine, but without power, it's no use to anyone.

Luckily the office owns this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA lacking some features
I really liked this PDA. It combined funtionality with a great price and a easy to use product. I loved how this was priced so low and it was color and rechargable. But it lacked MP3 capibility. It was a great PDA but I have updated to a Palm Tungsten T. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Do iT! Buy a paper map instead!
This software maker uses terms like "door to door directions" and "works anytime anywhere". BUT it only has a limited number of city maps. NO maps at all of New Jersey but claims to be metro New York! Package states that maps are available for download but only 56 cities are covered in the whole USA. If you don't stay only in these cities this is worthless. Please Look somewhere else:<

1-0 out of 5 stars Very, very unhappy
I am NOT happy with this product. They don't even have the major cities in my state, let alone the city I live in.When I emailed them about it, they said they were updating the cities but mine was not on the list and they didn't know when it would be.I'm definitely getting my $40 bucks back and never buying their products again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning: Buy at your own risk!!!
I wouldn't even rate this a '1' because I feel so gipped out of the $35 I spent. I bought this product as a gift for my boyfriend through Amazon a while back-- before there were any reviews about this product. I have to agree with all of the previous reviews. Unless you live in a major metropolitan area, this product is completely useless. I thought that this would be a good alternative for him instead of going to Mapquest on his phone. Now, he just winds up using mapquest anyways. If you need directions to and from the city, 'Directions on the Go' works fine, but if you need to travel from the city to the suburbs or vice versa, you're out of luck.

He never even uses this product anymore... Poor gift choice on my part.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE!! HORRIBLE!!!HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was the worst software purchase I've ever made.I wish I looked at the two reviews in before making a decision!I live outside Philadelphia, which is the 5th largest city in the USA.After buying the software and going to all the trouble to download, register, etc, I find out they don't even have a map available for download for the Philadelphia area!!!!!!!!

WORTHLESS!

Now my money is wasted.Buy.com will not take back a return(only store credit less shipping and handling) so I'm f*cked out of 40 bucks and more importantly my valuable time.

A totally and completely worthless product.DO NOT BUY!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Coverage -- Useless!!
Has maps for only 29 states plus D.C.In those 29 states, 16 have only one city!If you travel in California, Florida or Texas, you might get a chance to be frustrated by the slow downoad and inaccurate maps.Otherwise, you have a nice coaster to go with your AOL disks. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, But Longevity Not Good
I use this primarily with my ACT! database.Have never even come close to using the maximum memory even with hundreds of contacts and extensive notes. It has served me well for about 2 years; however now the standard plastic screen cover is hard to read through and the machine "resets" itself or locks up requiring a manual "reset" about once per week. For the purchase price I would have expected a much better life to it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying digitization problem
Although I was happy initially with my Tungsten T, I am no longer happy because it needs to be redigitized several times a day.I am a teacher and use it for a lot of data entry, calculation, and organizing and it is time consuming and aggravating to have to double-check all the time to ensure that the correct item is going in the correct field.I was dismayed to discover within these reviews that this is a glitch that is endemic to all model T's.I am even more upset to discover that it eventually just breaks! At the price I paid, I expected to get several years of use out of it.I am hesitant to replace a defective product with a product from the same company, especially if Palm is not backing up their product with a meaningful solution (as is reported elsewhere in these reviews).

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked well for a while
Initially I loved my Tungsten T, but after 6 months, the touch screen began requiring repeated recalibration. This has become progressively worse, to the point that recalibrating or repeatedly soft rebooting does not help and the T has died. This all occurred after the warranty period, and the online knowledge base and phone support have been worse than useless. After reading customer feedback here, it appears that several other people have experienced the same problems with the T and the same frustration with Palm support.I'm now shopping for a (non-Palm) replacement.I would strongly discourage anyone from buying what appears to be a flawed product from annon-supportive company.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real good PDA
This is a really good PDA . It only froze up onze in the year i've had it probaly because of this corructed game i downloaded
for it . I have used it to death , and no problems .
Here are the good things about it:

1.it plays MP3's

2.it has bluetooth

3.A realy nice screen

its fast too

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible touchscreen
I bought this model (not at Amazon) and I can say that those devices are very, very useful. I use this model for college (read texts) and to listen MP3s. However, it just became practically unusable after almost 5 months of use (3 months warranty).

So, what happened? Something that I see over and over again on Palm PDAs: the screen fails to recognize where you are pointing the "pen" (called stylus, right?). At the beggining, it was misaligning more frequently. So, I was aligning the screen more and more on the third month, but nothing that I should call a hassle. Then, the worst happened: with more or less 100 days (right after the warranty expired), it started to get extremely worse, like I need to align 2 or 3 times a day. Well, after some days, even the align process wouldn't work anymore...

At least it's still "usable" to read texts and listen to MP3s, but anything that requires lots of input can't be done. Funny that I've seen the same problem on the internet, and a friend bought a Tungsten E and exactly the _same_ problem happened, and on the _same_ period of time. I don't need to say that Palm support was like a "robot" for me and for my friend, automated humans that only says what you already know... I know lots of people at the college, and I can say that I made lots and lots of people don't buy a Palm. I will alert everyone not for the problem, because problems happen (even if this problem seems to happen a lot), but a crappy support is unaceptable.

It was the first and last Palm product I bought. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow, this is more useful than i thought it could be
This is a huge jump for me from a visor(palm os), as long as you like windows os you should be really happy with this pda.it is fast, has plenty of storage for apps and the colors are beautiful.it has multimedia, music, video and jpgs.with windows xp, the device appears as a networked resource when synched, which is very neat.i find that i am able to read books on this device, because the graphics are so good, unlike my palm.i have used the bluetooth capability, and it was moderately difficult to configure on my network.it does seem to suck up power, but i have never experienced powere loss.i have had it for 6 months now, and have only had to reboot the thing once, and it was the result of some crappy shareware.

cheers...

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific and dependable
I've owned this handheld for only 1 week, have graduated up from an older, different brand handheld.

This device is very relaible, deependable, and intuitive in its functionality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionar
I got this for my new PalmOne Zire 72. The dictionary has lots of function but doesn't work well with my palm. Everytime when I try to write a "t", it will go back to the previous screen instead of having a "t" on my word. And the software itself is not easy to use. After I have used it for a few times, it started to crash my operating system everytime I try to open the dictionary or insert the dictionary sd card to my palm. If you own a Zire 72, my best suggestion is not to get this dictionary.I returned mine and got another different one; it doesn't have as many functions as the Merriam-Webster's, but it works great and easy to use. Most importantly, it's completely capatible with my palm pilot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Dictionary
This is a great little dictionary.Perhaps I shouldn't say "little" since it has 200,000 definitions. But I use it on my HP 3115 and it seems little.Easy to read, easy to move around the dictionary. You can click on one of the words in the definition and you get a little pop up window that allows you to view that defintion and then return to the previous word or name or whatever. There are biographical and geographic entries as well, not to mention the thesaurus. It is so handy to have such a great reference work within arm's reach when you need a bit of information. The occasions for its use are endless.Highly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars What is a MobiReader?
Sure, the dictionary has a lot of words, but the problem is finding them. The search screen is extremely jumpy when using the graffiti interface.I can rarely get more than a couple letters in the search box before the program jumps off to the wrong word.

Now my graffiti skills are pretty good; I don't have this kind of problem with other Palm programs. The dictionary's search program (MobiReader?) doesn't want to wait for t's to be crossed and i's to be dotted. So a search for 'tea' and you'll end up with the first word starting with 'L'.I've resorted to using the popup keyboard screen to enter words. Not what I've come to expect from Palm-based programs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Dictionary Bad Software
I bought this dictionary for use with a Palm T3. The dictionary is pretty good and reasonably comprehensive. However, it uses the MobiPocket 4.6 as the reader software. It never tells you that anywhere, I just happened to download this sofware earlier and recognized it.This reader is horrible for a dictionary. When you try to make the letter "t" or "i" using Grafitti it triggers the go back action. Also if you try to delete a letter it triggers the go back action. It also doesn't take advantage of the full screen. These shortcomings seem to all be addressed in the new 4.7 reader but it is not clear yet if I have to buy the new reader (which costs just about as much as this card) and if I do if I can even use the new reader with the card's databases. It was inexcusable to marry this dictionary to an inappropriate reader and furthermore to not disclose that anywhere. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Talk about a walk down memory lane
This game card brings back the childhood days of Atari that's for sure, the gameplay is just how i remember it and tons of fun!
I'll be the one to verify this works with Pocket PC 2002 and works flawlessly with my Dell AXIM X5.the only problem with this game seems to be the controls. on the X5 it uses the middle curcular button for "navigation" which can be a bit sloppy at times, but all in all this is a great investment to pass the time on commutes and "spare" time during your day!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great nostalgia piece for some of us
If you're 30+ years old, you may have fond memories of playing with the Atari 2600 -- the home video game system that was popular long before Nintendo, Sega, or even Microsoft were household words. This card takes seven of the games from that old system and puts them...well...in the Palm of your hand. This card is also supposed to work with Pocket PC and certain cell phones, but I've only played it on a Palm Zire 71.

The most important thing to note is what games are included -- the "Features" section of the listing on Amazon is incorrect. This card does have Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong -- but instead of Combat and Tempest you get Adventure and Yar's Revenge. The Editorial Review includes the correct combination of games.

So what are the games like? As nearly as I can tell, they're identical to the old console version. In Adventure (one of my old favorites, and the grandparent of games like Legend of Zelda), the screen flickers if you have too many objects on the screen at once, just like it did on our television set years ago. Pong is...well...Pong. The games look, feel, and sound exactly like they used to years ago -- I'm not certain, but I suspect they're using the exact same code, running under an emulator.

It's important to note, however, that these are clones of the 2600 version of the games -- not the arcade versions that were out at the same time. So Centipede is just a square block, not a little mushroom shooter. Missile Command has one missile silo, not three. But unlike in the arcade, in this version of Asteroids you can choose to play with your choice of special options -- hypserspace, shields, flip, or nothing. If you're expecting clones of the arcade, you'll be disappointed -- the 2600 had nowhere near the power of the arcade games of its day, and that's reflected in what you'll see here.

I do have a few complaints about this implementation. You can only adjust the volume level before you start a game -- if you want to change it in the middle, you have to quit your game and start over. There is a pause option (as there was on the 2600 console), but if you end up back at the application launcher, you'll lose your place in whichever game you were playing. Two of the games included -- Pong and Breakout -- are almost impossible to play with a joystick (which is why the 2600 had paddle controllers for these games -- too bad they couldn't have let you use the stylus to simulate the paddle).

Speaking of controllers, there is no configuration option available -- your 5-way navigator is your joystick, but I've accidentally pressed it down when I didn't mean to, and fired at a bad time. Your four application buttons are also fire buttons, though they all do the same thing (the 2600 controller was a single joystick with a single button, so this is just fine). Still, I'd love the freedom to remap buttons if I want, if only to prevent a press on the 5-way navigator from firing unexpectedly.

CONCLUSION

If you grew up playing the Atari 2600, then this will be a trip down memory lane. I spent an hour playing Adventure -- I just couldn't put it down, despite pitiful graphics and simplistic gameplay. Nostalgia buffs will love this!

But if you're part of the Nintendo generation, or the old 2600 games hold no special memories for you, then you'll probably be disappointed in this release. Look for modern versions of some of these games from iambic and astraware to really take advantage of the horsepower of your modern platform. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With so many free entertainment titles available for Visors it's hard toimagine spending this much money on a collection of simple games. That said, there are a few gems in the bunch that will make the Pocket ExpressEntertainment Pack a welcome addition to your Springboard module collection.

The biggest draw here is Tetris Classic, which plays surprisingly well onthe Visor. The falling shapes are easily positioned and rotated using thebuttons on the bottom of the device, and we were racking up high scores in notime. The other featured game in this pack, Lode Runner: The LegendReturns, is nowhere near as fun. Maneuvering the impossibly tiny man aroundthe screen is tedious, and you have to advance through several levels beforethings get interesting at all.

We were much more impressed with the PocketChess, PokerDice, andblackjack games. PocketChess plays a mean game of chess on the higherdifficulty settings, and the touch screen interface works flawlessly, but beprepared to wait a long time for the computer opponent to make its moves.PokerDice is a surprisingly addictive game of chance and choices, andblackjack is a great way to while away the hours on a boring flight. On top ofall this, Pocket Express threw in a copy of smallWare's Solitaire Free, which includes three solitaire variants including the ever-popular Klondike.

With this much variety, boredom simply isn't an option, but the Springboardformat is a mixed blessing. On the plus side, it offers a convenient way tostore several games that would take up more than 500 KB of memory on your Visorif they were installed via a HotSync--a fact that users of the standard Visorwith its 2 MB of memory will appreciate. On the other hand, the games arepermanently stored on the card, meaning that if new versions come out there's noway to upgrade the version you already have without installing the softwaredirectly on your Visor. If you don't care about upgrading or just want to get agood helping of guaranteed fun for a reasonable price, this is an overall greatcollection of games with universal appeal. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Comes with a great version of Tetris
  • Frees memory on your Visor, since the games stay on the Springboard module
Cons:
  • Lode Runner is a little weak
  • Can't upgrade the installed games with newer versions

2-0 out of 5 stars Tetris was the only good game...
All the games can be found elsewhere on teh internet as shareware, and freely downloadable. The cartridge is read only and therefore you can't "upgrade" the older versions of the games with newer ones.

For the price, I had assumed that the versions of hte programs I was getting were the full blown packages that cna be purchased online.Except for Tetris, I was dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great games! Perfect for travel and leisure time!
Wow, this is a great pack of games. They're easy to use, fun to play and there's plenty of variety. Tetris Classic and Pocket Chess are worth the price alone. They're good for hours of stimulating game play. I'm a business traveler and spend a lot time on airplanes or waiting for airplanes. These games are a great road companion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Tetris and a good clutch of other games
I like playing games on my Handspring, but I don't like the space many of them eat up.Enter pocketExpress with a good collection of games that take up *no memory* and are quite fun.

Ok, so they take up a *tiny* bit of memory for saved prefrences and such, but much *much* less than if you were to load all of these games (or even *one* of these games) into your PDA.

The Tetris game is perfect. Solitare has a good interface and is clean. Load Runner brought back memories of my first Mac!

Poker Dice and BlackJack are well done versions of classics games as well.

Installing them is a snap.Pop the module in and there they are.Take the module out, and they are gone.Simple.

This "Game Boy" concept should be exploited by more companies.I have seen a few other game modules, but nice bundles like this are pretty cool.I could easily see an Arcade bundle, a Casino bundule, a Word Games bundle, etc.

A nice little companion to your Visor.

(This is also an *excellent* solution for those who bought a 2mb Visor!)

5-0 out of 5 stars A great way to spend some time
If you are willing to spend the money, this is a great module! The games themselves appear through a select screen when you put the module in, and the launcher and the other programs appear. When you are done, it only saves your settings and last games played, (and in the case of Lode Runner, extra level sets.) So at most, it leaves 10k on your Visor. If you were to buy any one of the programs seperately (except for 2, which are free) it would cost $15.Installing all of these programs instead of buying the Springboard would take at least 750k.Not so good if you have a Graphite 2mb. Visor/Visor solo.Lode Runner is my favorite, and includes a level editor. It's great for those long road trips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of fun
With this eight in one game panel you can enjoy hours of fun in the car or at work. Or even in the comfort of your own home. I love this product because it is so small and so easy to use. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars HP Ipaq 5555
I have owned the Ipaq 5555 for a year.My review is far from positive. The unit has glitzy features but many disappointments.Battery life is not long enough for practical professional use. Handwriting recognition is about 90% at best and usually less. The unit has a slippery exterior that should be kept in a case; a poor engineering design , unless they want one to drop it.
What is most disappointing is the one year warrantee support from HP.I developed synching problems. HP support put me through a variety of time consuming phone support resets et al.Finally they agreed (reluctantly) to accept the unit for analysis. We sent it in. The J2 connector on the main board was cracked.Despite a lack of any signs or history of external abuse, they claimed the unit must have been dropped and sustained significant impact. They are not planning to honor the warrantee.I am the only one who uses this unit. HP does not honor their warrantee.I would not recommend purchasing this unit.
Other limitations are common to most PDAs.Slow compared to PCs, laptops, tablets.Poor screen size for internet.
For the price this is not worth it.
On the positive side the security features were valuable to me as a physician to protect confidential patient information.Otherwise it had little special to offer over units costing a fraction of the price.
Wireless internet was of little value due to the slowness of connecting and unreliability of auto connecting.Within my own home I could walk downstairs to use the PC to access and get internet info more expediently. The only time it helped was on the road, and that was limited. Email access from the PDA is not happening for me.
Many programs have to be purchased for PDA use that would be built in to most laptops and other PCs. Bluetooth devices are too pricey to be a good value.
I think PDAs are great for storing contact info and making notes, but should not be pushed into the realm of truer computing. They should be easily held and capable of sustaining 4 foot falls.
Again, I would specifically avoid the HP products because they are not honoring their warrantee, using flimsy evidence to shift the blame off their poor engineering of a handheld onto the user. Get a far less expensive Palm for basic contact and calendar use, a laptop or tablet for on the road computing and bypass these expensive and impractical Ipaqs.

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of time
Total and complete data failure (and will not restore even after a full backup) 6 X in the last four months. This is after warranty replacement of the unit (based upon the old "we don't know why it does that") -

Avoid this PPC until they make one that is suitable for everyday use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable
This must be the most frustrating device it has ever been my misfortune to own! With some regularity, and with no apparent reason, it resets itself to factory settings. I spend more time restoring and reinstalling than I actually spend productively.

At least 5-6 times per day, I have to do a soft reset because the thing locks up. Half the time it won't connect or sync either via USB or wireless.

I've had the iPAQ for a year now, and am just getting ready to do a complete reinstall. Once again, it reset itself. Two weeks ago, same thing. This is the last time, however, there is a hammer in the iPAQ's future. I mean it.

Afterthought: who ever heard of a device that can't be turned off? What numbskull designed a computer that loses everything if it loses power? Duh.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have used my 5555 for a year
To get absolute use out of this machine I would recommend the SanDisk 1 gig memory (inserts in topof 5555 easily .. about 300 bucks), Pocket map navigator (absolutely wonderful about 350 bucks) Sierra wireless aircard750 (so you can use it as a cell)and Microsoft voice recognition (works great) so you can select and play your tunes. This is a brilliantly designed machine..more usability just keeps popping out of it every day. One fair warning.. it's hell to learn to run correctly. The documentation is terrible but tech support has been patient during my dozen or so phone calls for help. I have dropped this machine and it still works so it is durable. The 5555 makes all other PDA's look like junk once you are on top of it. Forget the expense.. just buy it, fight it and make it work to do the things you want it to do. Oh, and download the software so you can watch movies on it too (another 50 bucks). You can put about 8 movies on the san disk. Don't waste money with the double expansion pack, get the single, it will still fit in your shirt pocket and do all the above.

5-0 out of 5 stars Earlier Review about Battery Replacement is Incorrect
An earlier review (August, 2003) contained the following incorrect information:

"The problem that has plagued HP since the 3000 series started is the battery. It isn't replaceable by any part that you can get your hands on, and it has a shelf life of about 1.5 years."

In fact, the iPAQ 5555 battery IS replaceable and many people recommend that users carry a spare battery if they expect to use the PDA heavily. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Addition to My Palm Tungsten T3
While studying, living, working, and traveling in China I have found the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia a valuable addition to my Palm Tungsten T3.I am frequently confronted with distorted versions of world facts and history here and can quickly review the actual facts and figures to effectively refute the distortions. In my Chinese language classes the encyclopedia's condensed articles are very useful in preparing classroom assignments where we have fifteen minutes to prepare a speech on an assigned range of topics. The maps are very general; but provide adequate national overview maps with major cities and geographical features shown and can be useful aids in discussions, much better than my napkin and pen drawings.Other software is available for more detailed travel needs.Similarly; if you're expecting to unfold the actual unabridged Encyclopedia Britannica with the click of an icon you will be disappointed; but that is not what this on-the-move version is all about.I have been thankful that the compiled information is condensed, can be very quickly and inconspicuously reviewed, and put neatly away until the next time it is needed.I keep it in the card slot at all times and find it useful at work, school, and family and social gatherings.Others really enjoy looking on with me as I use this card as a way to enrich our interactions with a deeper look into the facts than we could achieve off the tops of our heads.I would highly recommend that anyone with both a PDA and a brain purchase and use this product as their first-line quick reference tool.

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing after having used the real EB
Being an enthusiast of the EB, and already owning a software
version and an old paper edition, I was very thrilled by the
possibility of having access to the EB on my pda as well. No
more would I be left musing about a strange place name
on a book read in the cafe, or wondering what the currency of
a country might be called... It was a disappointment, then,
to find that the "Concise" in the name of the product is an
euphemism for grossly abbreviated; many articles do little more
than state the obvious about their topic. Moreover, one wonders
why this needs to be the case, as current SD cards have become
cheap and have enough capacity to contain a lot more text. Is
it the desperate need for claiming 900 "illustrations"? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect gadget for enthusiasts
I had this PDA for almost two years now and it still works properly except that it's internal memory falls short compared to other PDAs. Most of it's people seems to complain it's battery usage especially when operating cameras but if you make your backlit screen minimal as possible, then the camera will last longer even with the flash. I do that all the time and usually gets me 50 shots with flash if used continuosly without quitting; quitting so would make results for your battery life different. MP3 works great but you'll need to format your mp3s to atrac3 using sony's software since all it playback is atrac3. I also recommand that you get at least 256mb of merory stick pro for this one; that way you can backup lots of data in case your pda screws up and also to store some video clips, games, works, etc. If you want to playback mp3s, buy the standard magicgate merory stick fot it; only those can playback atrac3s. This pda can access most of webpages too as long as it doesn't eat away too much of merory space. I hope this review helps some of those who wish to use it's built-in camera very efficiently because I know I did.

3-0 out of 5 stars A small PC
It's very hard to rate this handheld because it's not really a PDA.I've owned it for 2 years and hardly use it.Everything has been pretty much said and fairly accurate. It's a great handheld for those who travel and want instant internet access on a great screen, without carrying a laptop. My previous PDA was a palm (which promptly died at the 1 year mark), and it was with me all the time because it was so portable. My low rating is really from my annoyance that it's too bulky and heavy (yes, it is like a brick) to be "worn" in that way.The best thing is definately the screen, it's very bright and everything that you tap on responds instantly.Big minuses include the lack of memory, terrible battery life (one picture with the flash is all I got before it drained), and the expensive sony peripherals. The stylus is situated in a horrible place that it slides out easily and I've lost one every few months (and I hardly use it).The camera lens cover slides open easily. There aren't any good form fitting covers for this thing other than ones that look like a pocket book. The camera and built in mic aren't bad.It has a nice set of utilities. It's great for someone on the road all the time and lives out of a briefcase or bag.

1-0 out of 5 stars a piece of junk
Dont ever buy this product. It comes with a packet of junk softwares. Take for example audio player. It can only play files which has a frequency of 44.1KHz and data rate of 96kbps to 128kbps. However there are some awesome products out there, but since sony doesnt provide their API, these products dont work for nz90.
Battery life is terrible. Even when your battery is %80 percent charged, you cannot use flash to take a picture. I think with fully charged battery you can only take 5 ( yes it is 5) pictures. Then your battery is totally gone.
There are so many negatives for this products that I can write 5 paged on that!!!!
Exteremely disappointed user of nz90.
Luckily I saved so many friends of mine to do the same mistake!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A jack of all trades - master of none
It may be a great idea to have a PDA and camera combo, but this product is not it.It has the best screen I have seen (big and bright); excellent game selections; but is cumbersome due to the flip screen and ridiculous stylus storage.

The camera takes good photos, but the lag time from shutter release to taking a picture is very slow and you need a very steady hand for quality picures. The still and video camera use way too much power (in relation to a stand alone camera which may be able to take up to one or two hundred pictures on a battery charge vs about 15 - 20 for this one) The screen is just about invisible in sunlight making it very difficult to frame picures.

The Piscel Viewer for documents is not user friendly and you cannot edit any documents without additional software. As a PDA alone it is not bad, but many are better due to battery life and are more user friendly.

Just a bad choice.Battery life at this time is way behind the state of the art (5 hrs max just leaving it on).The power lasts about two hours playing even simple games (something like backgammon). You cannot even fill a MS on one battery charge and movies cannot be taken (or the flash used) at anything less than full power. The battery is rechargeable (and removable), but there is no external charger available.Batteries must be charged in the Clie.

The cradle connection is awkward and usually takes both hands and some jiggling to get it to seat on the cradle. The only way to tell it is seated properly is to turn it on and make sure the battery logo has a lighting bolt accross it indicating that the unit is charging and therefore is properly seated in the cradle.

I am now looking at a Pocket PC and digital camera (separate) to get better performance.Any one want a sightly used Clie NZ 90??

5-0 out of 5 stars HUGE in every sense !
Well, let's start by the basics. This machine is HUGE by any means if you compare it to any other PDA. It's like, well, the Darth Vader of all the Palm Powered devices. It's black, it's menacing, it's all-powerful. You can stun an attacker with it if you whirl it over your head and hit him (it includes a convenient hand strap for that purpose).

Jokes aside, it is well built (i used to have a Clie NR70V and it was very fragile), the hinges and swivels are tight, it won't open inside your backpack and get all scratched inside.

It is also a nice PDA, with all the useful stuff that any common handheld has. (Memo, Agenda, Address, To Do, Whatever). But it excels on the add-ons. That's the best part.

The digital camera is awesome (autofocus/manual focus, flash, 2.0 MP) and it can store hundreds of pictures. There are many options and settings to play with.

It also has audio recorder software. The sound is crisp, clear, and you can record many, many, many hours of speech, enviromental audio or anything.

As any other Clie, it has its own mp3 player. There's no need to buy the special SONY smartmedia card to use it: a Lexmark alternative will do the trick.

Of course, if you combine audio + pictures, you'll get a video camera. It works as one. Not great quality, it might be compared with having a webcam with you all the time.

What else ? Integrated keyboard, speaker, remote control, a couple of headphones, infrared port.

I can even speak about Bluetooth. I don't have any bluetooth gear in my house, but i'm leaving the wake-up option enabled and see if i find any BT devices in my office. Besides the blinking blue led looks cool :).

It has many improvementes since the last Clie versions. The memory stick has changed its place, so it doesn't flip out every time you put it in your pocket. The craddle is now foldable and you can take it everywhere to charge and/or connect your clie. You can even attach it to the PDA and carry it around.

Even when it is bulky, it is very well built and with a nice eequilibrium... you can hold it in your hand and it won't fall easily. That happened with the NR70V: the screen was heavier than the body, so it fell backwards always.

The keyboard is a lot better and easier to use by now. Also the back button has been moved a little and it's easier to use than before.

The camera doesn't rotate anymore... but i didn't miss the feature, since you can still use it in the open or closed form, to take pictures of yourself or others.

I would complain only about few things:

- The pen is thin ! It looks thinner compared to the huge agenda. And it has a very weird to attach to the PDA.
- The picture browsing is waaaay slow. I'll better find a better program to handle the pictures.
- I can't recall anything else, but i'm sure that there were some things that bothered me. Well, let's say it's 4 and a half stars. Oh, the price !Wait a little until it drops. But even now it's worth every cent. For a journalist is the perfect tool. And for a physician (who i am) too.
- And, it might seem crazy, but i find this size more comfortable for me than before. I don't think of it as a PDA, instead i think of it as a pocket sized notebook. ... Read more
