I have recently received one of these as a gift, and the little machine was unbelievable.It's easy to use and a great entry level machine that will also keep experts in electronics busy.The best feature has to be the software game bejeweled!!!

A Great PDA
I don't normally write reviews, but I had to respond to the criticism of the Clie cover. I've owned several PDAs over the years, and this is the best. The hard plastic flip cover is excellent because I don't need a separate case, but the touch screens and buttons are always protected (in my pocket, brief cases, etc.).

great pda...but beware of super shiny cover!
I bought this Clie to upgrade from my dying Palm Vx (which I love, but must finally lay to rest). I was attracted to the Clie's compact size, many features, and good price. Compared to Palms in the same price range, Sony seems to give you more for your money, such as a higher resolution screen and a faster processor.

When the Clie arrived and I removed it from the box, however, I couldn't get over the shininess of the cover. It doesn't look a thing like the pictures on either Amazon's or Sony's website, the latter of which describes the cover as "smooth and translucent." It's not exactly "translucent" but rather a semi-sheer metallic/iridiscent plastic that ranges from teal to cobalt to purple depending on the viewing angle. And it's so reflective that you can see yourself quite clearly in it--when you're not blinded by the brightness, that is. Sort of like a newly washed car or a flashy pair of sunglasses.

In all other regards, this appears to be a terrific little machine. Very speedy, gorgeous full-color screen, nifty jog-dial on the side for one-handed operation, even doubles as an mp3 player. As for the cover, I assume that the shininess will fade away with fingerprints, dust and regular use--and some people might really like the slick/stylish factor that it adds. Personally, I find this cover *really* bothersome and distracting, so I'll be exchanging for a different model with a brushed aluminum case. Nothing against the PDA itself; the external design is just not what I expected. I wish the online pictures and descriptions had been more accurate.

The killer handheld app
I've owned the Zagat Restaurant Survey and found it invaluable for finding new and interesting restaurants in NYC.The reviews are based on surveys by ordinary people like you and I.If you need some help finding a good restaurant or a place to hang out at night, this program is a must have for you.

Many times I've found myself with a friend trying to figure out where to go, and didn't have the Zagat Survey book on me.Now with this program, I'll never have that problem again since I almost always carry my PocketPC.

The CD comes with both the Restaurant Survey and Nightlife Guide.The CD includes most of the major cities in the US and Canada.When you buy this program, you get a 12 month subscription to Zagat.You have to activate it when you install the program.

The software on the CD comes for both PocketPC and Palm handhelds.I own an Ipaq PocketPC, and was able to install the software easily.It does take a relatively hefty 4 megs of space.

The great thing about the Zagat Survey is that I can sort by price, food rating, or service.Personally, I like to sort by price and then scan for the best food ratings next.In addition, you can search by neighborhood, cuisine, or most popular.

Good Entry Level PDA
This PDA is a great entry level model, but it lacks many of the features of higher priced models. It's a great replacement for a paper planner, but don't purchase this model if you're looking to play games (which may be a good thing if you're purchasing it for a student, like me).

First PDA
If you are tired of having a huge planner, buying replacement pages, and buying pens or pencils, this is the PDA for you. I bought one to replace my worn out monthly planner book.
I LOVE it !!!!It does everything my day planner book did, but much better, smaller, lighter and more fun to use. And you can play some games on them besides. I have checkers,roulette, video poker, Tic-tac-toe, even got my resume on it, and my addresses and phone numbers. The alarm is cool also.

Not as useful as I had expected
An ardent oenophile (what an elderly friend of mine playfully calls a dedicated wino) with a newly purchased PDA, my discovery of this program in a Wine Enthusiast catalog conjuredexpactations of mountains of reviews at my fingertips. I also expected to be able to organize my own collection and record my impressions of wines I had drunk, as well as any notes and recommendations from others for wines I might like to try in the future. While, in all honesty, this program does this, it doesn't do it as well or as smoothly as I had expected.

Take for instance the reviews section. A surprising number of the listed wines carry only a breif description but no review. (Piedmontese wine lovers beware - the objects of your affection are sorely under-represented and even if listed are rarely reviewed.)

The cellar inventory aspect in good but not great. The autotext completion features that save one having to write "Bordeaux" one hundred times or that fill in appelation names from the first few letters lack many names that would be expected in a program such as this.

Perhaps most distressing is that Bordeaux wines are startlingly under-represented in the review section. Many premier chateau are not cited at all.

Am I being a bit too demanding of a $... program? Perhaps. Nevertheless, I was a bit less than satisfied with the program. Were it possible to return software programs, I suspect I would. Alas, such things are not allowed. I am left with it to make of it what I can. ... Read more
