1-0 out of 5 stars breaks easily/customer support is a joke
display screen cracks easily.to make matters worse, don't spend the extra money to buy the protective case because the closure magnets on it also cause the screen to crack.when you call customer service, they charge at least $175 to repair and are very rude.

1-0 out of 5 stars breaks easily, can't be repaired cheaply
I purchased an HP IPAQ 4155 several months ago and was initially impressed with its functionality and power. However, the touch-screen fractured shortly thereafter, rendering it useless.I don't recall placing any stress on the screen or striking it, but it fractured while sitting in my pocket in its 'protective' case.Very fragile. The replacement touch screen cost $85 (I was just replacing the touch screen, not the LCD itself)! My trouble was only beginning.I am a trained computer technician, but I could not even OPEN up the damn unit to replace the touch screen without the case breaking into pieces. What a rip-off.They purposefully designed the unit so that you have to buy a new one if anything breaks, or send it in to HP so they can charge you an arm and a leg.I will not buy another HP product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Screen Breaks and it will.
All the good reviews are from people that have just purchased this item. Wait till the screen breaks by its self.

I have owned 5 ipaqs, starting with the Aero and going all the way to 4155.

One day I looked at my ipaq and it had a crack on the screen about 1 inch long. I knew immediately that the crack will grow and it did.

The unit has never been dropped or mishandeled. Its does not even have a scratch on it. I am a person that uses a super fine tip fiber tip for my regular writing and never exert any pressure on the pen, letalone the stylus.

The crack came by its self and now the repair costs are in excess of 180 $.

After reading all the people that have broken their ipaq screens I am thinking of filing a class action law suit against HP. They should provide free screen replacements to their customers. (something similar to what compaq had to do to replace all floppy drives for their customers)

I will try to setup a blog page where we can get together and suethe company.

1-0 out of 5 stars Melted screen
As other reviewers I was very excited about this little toy, until (as happened with other reviewers too) the screen melted yesterday. Now I am stuck without the PDA and with a headache of fixing it. HP should spend more on engineering and quality parts, less on marketing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a Palm.
When I got up today I found my iPAQ 4155 with a melted screen. Sometime in the night sitting on it's base it just died. Called support and was told that it was a common thing to have happen. Then I was told that it would be $175.00 to fix it. I'm now going out and getting a Palm. I wish I would have saved my money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Zire 72 Not Worth It
Although the Zire 72 has fairly decent screen resolution, other features (or lack thereof) make it not worth the price. The battery life is terrible. After only 10 to 12 months of occaisional use, the battery in my Zire will not hold a charge for more than 10 to 20 minutes, and PalmOne wants $125 (plus shipping)to replace it.The blue paint began flaking off within days after I bought it.I just scraped it all off with my fingernail and the rough, brushed steel look was OK.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first color Palm OS handheld!
All I can say is that PalmOne has really impressed me with their Zire 72 Special Edition!Perhaps I'm so taken by this PDA because I upgraded from a Handspring Visor Deluxe.I would give this PDA 5 stars if it included 802.11x wireless networking instead of the Bluetooth support. That costs one star!

Overall, I would definitely recommend this PDA to anyone interested in buying a new one. It's FAST, the color 320x320 screen is awesome -- very crisp text on this brilliantly lit color screen!I have yet to try the mp3 side of the handheld. That really isn't something important to me, though for many it is, and I have read reviews that say the sound quality is quite poor.Don't just take my word for it though -- do some research using Google.com to find reviews.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like the Palm Zire 72s
    Great little toy!

    Pro:
    Super blazing fast
Bluetooth works really well; sync via bluetooth is slow, but everything else is fine
I love the camera; great little addition
The screen is VERY vibrant and full and bright
Bundled software is great; lots of 3rd party stuff available, too, of course
    Extra button for voice memos
Comes with a decent little case
USB cable allows it to trickle charge
Palm desktop makes adding and removing data easy, like media and contacts and stuff, including easy-to-use import/export utilities

    So-so:
Battery life is simply sufficient; however, what do you expect with all that it does?
    I'd like a better stylus
Screen makes a faint buzzing sound

    Cons:
Well, the OS does some quirky "background" stuff when alarms are set or when the auto-off-and-lock feature is activated, etc.
Background image disappears when reset is performed
Seems like I have to reset more often than I did with my IIIxe; but that might be some 3rd party stuff I have installed

All in all, I've loved it.It's been great!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad Palm warranty
Overall its not a bad product, it does do a lot. The different language programs to read different types of languages has not caught up with it.

Nonetheless its good with letters. However, mine stopped recharging after the initial charge to start using it. Apparently it can often be damaging to carry it too close to certain kinds of cell phones. I don't undertand since it has a blue tooth function, what do they expect? Anyways I CALLLED PALM, and they wanted to CHARGE ME $40 TO "EXCHANGE" it with a new one, which I do not think is fair at all. I recommend purchasing some sort of insurance that would cover it so that you don't get ripped of by the "EXCHANGE" costs of replacing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad device
This is my first PDA in a few years and although I haven't really cross-shopped the Zire 72 with other PDAs in its price range, I am extremely happy with just about everything it does. The screen bright and the colors are nice and clear. The speaker is loud enough to be heard clearly at an arms lenth away.It probably could be heard even better if you were in a completely quiet room. Probably the best feature is the notes with alarm.Nothing beats scribbling a quick note and then having an alarm go off to show you what you wrote. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best PDA I've Owned
I've owned way too many PDAs, and have come to several conclusions:

    1 Palm OS excells,
    2. HP iPaqs are a disaster,and
    3. SONY exceeded my expectations.

Unless you need Wi-Fi, it's not worth it.

This is by far the most feature filled unit that is on the market. It's size and features will address just about any need you may have.

Keyboard is comfortable, and bundled software is great to show off the features. You'll be hard pressed to get over the novelty of this wonderful machine. You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best PDA out there (not including UX50)
I have had several PDAs, and this is by far the best.I got it mainly for the built-in keyboard and high-res screen, but it is the total package.I sold my Dell Axim which was quite good to get the UX40 and I don't miss it at all.

    Pros:
    - Super compact
    - Loaded with features
    - Bluetooth built-in
    - Great screen
    - Keyboard is very convenient
    - Multimedia
    - Fast
    - Super cool and well made

    Cons:
    - Battery life not great, but OK
    - Kind of pricey
    - Camera good only for low res pics

    - Landscape screen only (not a big deal to me)

Buy it - you know you want it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love at first glance, but then...
I love it the first time I saw it, using the excelent services of Amazon.com I have it in my hands in couple of days.
I changed from a nice Hp 1945 Pocket PC to Sony UX-40, but I'm not sure if was a wise idea:

    1. The screen is too small to have a comfortable sight
    2. Keyboard is nice in size but I don't like the feeling of the keys.
    3. It's not cheap, and the software provided is very limited, if you want to use the other software provided, you have to pay.
    4. Quality of photos is low

    5. You have to carry the cradle if you want to charge it in your car with the proper adapter.

Very nice looking device but maybe is oriented to a younger market (but the price is not oriented to it)

I will give it a couple of weeks, if not convinced, maybe my wife can give me back the Ipaq 1945 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Palm I have ever owned
I am a long time palm user. First the Palm IIIC, then the Palm m500, then the Sony Clie SJ-22 and now the Sony Clie SJ-33.
I have been using this SJ-33 since May of 2004 when I got it on a closeout sale for $149. It was the best deal on electronics I have ever received. I love the fact that I can sync outlook, word and excel documents. It helps with my work as an engineer greatly. The other thing that is great about this little handheld is that the Dragonball processor has more than enough juice to play movies. Little known fact about this handheld is that you can burn dvd's (using PocketDVD) and then convert them to .pdb format using Kinoma Producer 3 to watch full length movies on this palm. As far as I know it is the only pre Palm OS5 device that has the horsepower to do this. Granted, you have to buy PocketDVD and Kinoma Producer, and I recommend a 256Meg memory card to hold one movie but even with these costs you get the functionality of a much newer machine. The battery life is excellent, especially compared to my old IIIc and m505. I have a seperate memory stick that I use to listen to MP3's on this palm, that functionality is great as well. I take it to the gym in the morning and I either listen to MP3's or I watch a Seinfeld episode or 2 while I am on the stair master. There is enough battery life to watch two entire movies on one charge (with the brightness set to the middle). I already know that I will be using this PDA until it breaks and goes into the trash can.

    Pros:
    -Excellent multimedia capabilities
-Jog dial, if you have never had one, you need one!
-long battery life, and it is replaceable
-very rugged construction, I have dropped it from waist level several times and aside from some scratches, no internal damage

    Cons:
-You have to buy third party software to get full functionality
-Sony support is dwindling since they have exited the US-PDA market
-I wish the memory card slot would 'lock', when I have accidentally dropped it on the ground the memory card literally launches out of the slot, going several feet away

1-0 out of 5 stars Sony support nonexistant
If sony could get a zero, I would give them a zero.Sony has no concept of giving their customers any after purchase support. The battery on this clie has never held a decent charge.Due to my work, I am not able to leave it plugged in all day; so I tried to find a car charger. No one had one not even sony and their support never emailed me back.I decided to replace the battery and once again no one had a replacement, and sony was non responsive.I guess by halting support of their clies sony believes that everyone will have to buy a psp.NOT ME!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent PDA for an affordable cost
This is my 2nd PDA. I had a Casio PV-S1600. So I was used to monochrome screen and no snazzy apps.
This palm OS based color CLIE just blasted me away.
The palm 4 os based software are easily available online. The PDA serves all my purpose ... entertainment or work. The built in mp3 player is great.
I give it a thumbs up!

    Cons:
A faster proccessor and RAM needed... (yes im greedy)
    No cradle available with package
Built in Speaker not loud enough

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy product support from Sony
We bought several units for office staff.Liked the unit's functionality, but several units had re-charging issues.Could not get satisfactory help from Sony, wanted nearly $500 to "fix" one unit, claiming that it had evidence of moisture damage to the mother board. At that time, it was less than two weeks out of the box, and never exposed to moisture. There was no one from Sony to talk to, despite their fancy voice interactive service line.Called numerous times.Best I got was a commitment that the service team that dealt with it would call me back within 24 hours.... nothing doing.Eventually returned the unit to me - without repair done.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good but flimsy
I was happy with the features and screen of this PDA, although its plastic construction felt flimsy compared to my old Palm V.Unfortunately, I have had to return this CLIE for repair/replacement.The innards of the memory stick slot broke loose.SONY warranty service answered my call promptly, and quickly sent me a pre-addressed FedEx carton for return of the unit. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A step back from 2004, but still good
The overall quality is good but.

    - There are still many inaccuracies.MicroSoft doesn't really takesuggestions very well.

    - The GPS interface is buggy to the point of utter worthlessness

    - The substitution of Slow/Ave/Fast for the speeds on various road types in lieu of the previous numerical inputs is a BIG step back as far as I am concerned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like wine, it is only getting better with the years!
    Tuesday, September 14, 2004

I receive my edition of Streets & Trips 2005 this week. I should mention that I've bought all previous versions of Streets & Trips since its debut.

As a Paramedic in Montreal, Canada, since 16 years, I have to say that Streets & Trips as allow me to save at least 7 lives so far in my career, how? : I use it to know every single detail like one way streets, road closure, and new streets in the sector that I'm assigned witch allows me to stay on top of the latest development , IT'S SAVE US TIME TO GET WHERE WE HAVE TO GO WITH PRECISION and Streets & Trips delivers.

ALL my colleagues that use Streets & Trips are saying the same thing, we have tried other software and all of us came to the same conclusions: nothing come even close to it.

I can recall 7 emergencies's called that I manage to get on scene before the Fire department and the Police, 7 of theses emergency's where life threatening and because we where there faster because I knew the road closure and one way's, it has made adifference in our patient condition, a POSITIVE one.

Edition 2005, just like wine, it is only getting better with the years!

I personally recommend this software to ALL peoples; I use it (of course) to plan my regular trips to the U.S. and all over Canada during my holidays.

The only thing that I have yet to understand is the people that complain about this software??? . My only conclusion is the complainer probably just doesn't know how to use the software properly.

Respectfully, Francois, from Montreal Canada. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great keyboard from the makers of stow-a-way
This is my third keyboard that I've purchased for my PDA (Axim X50v) and I'm thrilled with the quality and performance of this keyboard.I highly recommend this product to anyone considering a keyboard.

I first bought a Belkin IR keyboard from Office Dept and it sucked. It felt cheap. The keys were poorly spaced and I couldn't get it to work with my Axim X50v.But in reality the biggest problem was the cheapness of the keyboard.I paid $60 for the keyboard and felt that I should have paid $20.Piece of crap.Decided to return it within 5 minutes of opening the box.

The second keyboard I bought was the "Dell Axim X50V Portable / Foldable / Full Size Bluetooth Keyboard" from Suntekstore / Amazon. This keyboard sucked for several reasons.First off, while it may have number keys (unlike this keyboard) the keys are all undersized so I couldn't type with them. Not a good start.Second problem is that the keyboard was made for cell phones, NOT PDA's!I couldn't put my Axim on the stand without it falling over or leaning at an unacceptable level toward the ceiling.Total crap. And the third problem was that I couldn't get it to connect to my PDA.I'm sure i could've figured out the third problem but the keyboard sucked so bad I made the decision to return it after an hour of opening the box.

Then I ordered the Think Outside keyboard...

This keyboard is head over heals better than the other keyboards that I just mentioned. The keys feel nice and they are well spaced.Opening the unit was a little stiff at first, but now slides open and closed easily with a satisfying "click" at either end of the process. The Axim fits PERFECTLY into the cradle that is built into the unit (I use the Axim in landscape position).I was also able to get this keyboard to work in about 30 minutes. Not plug and play, but reasonable. The keyboard sacrificed the number keys to make room for the larger key spacing, but I haven't found that it's a problem to type numbers by holding down the function keys. The best thing about this keyboard however is the quality.I paid $90 for it and I'd do it again in a second.

BTW, for those of you who are trying to figure out if the extra money for bluetooth is worth it, it is!I keep my PDA in its cradle by my computer charging when I'm at my desk.At any time I can flip open my keyboard and start typing notes without ever removing the PDA from its cradle. It's very convenient!

I've owned the keyboard for about a week and I'm very thrilled with the quality and performance it.It's a joy to use and easily doubles the usefulnexx of my PDA

1-0 out of 5 stars A change of heart
It seems that this keyboard acts a little like those gold fish you bring home in a plastic bag from the pet shop. You have to put the whole bag in the tank until it acclimates to it's new surroundings.I went from wanting to love the thing for the sheer coolness factor....to boxing it up to send back when it wouldn't sync to my Axim x50v....to giving it another chance and after it was good and ready to work flawlessly, I now love it again. The keyboard is smaller than standard but very useable. It's great for writing a longer e-mail, inputting contacts, or writing a letter in word, when you don't want to peck at the screen with your stylus endlessly. The construction feels solid and opening and closing is a snap.Pun intended. The only major flaw is with the cradle that holds your PDA.It is removable which is the desired use to space the PDA a little further away from you.But the feet that clip it to the keyboard just don't want to let go.The plastic it's made out of doesn't seem especially robust and I feel certain it will snap off eventually. Also the curved lower part of the cradle that holds your Axim, et al, is a little under developed and if bumped will readily jettison what it's holding.Other than that it works very well and never ceases to make me grin when everyone passing your table at Starbucks has to stop and ask you about it. I previously gave it one star, but now that it's acclimated and working I give it 4 only because of the cradle shortcoming or else it would have been a full 5.I know it shows one star, but Amazon wholdn't allow me to edit the scale.

1-0 out of 5 stars Could not get it to work on Dell Axim X30BT
Oh how I wanted this to work.

I ended up sending it back after spending seven hours, over two days, trying to get it to activate. Followed the instructions to a "T." Again and again.

Downloaded the new software. The instructions for both the old and new software ARE quite confusing.

Spent time on the web trying to find a support phone number for Think Outside. No such thing. Found an email support address. Emailed for help. Found a support forum. Posted my questions. Didn't hear back for two days and so mailed the unit back to Amazon. Then heard back.

Think I MAY have figured out--from the response they sent--something I could have done to get it going. But, too late. Too frustrating.

Obviously (from reading the reviews) it loads more easily on some other pocket devices. Allow lots of time for experimenting and contacting support by email and awaiting responses if you're loading it onto a Dell Axim. AND read the recent comments from other Dell Axim users here who had difficulties but figured out how to get it working. (Wish I had realized there were new comments from Dell Axim owners.)

I've used a Stowaway keyboard for my Palm for years. Works wonderfully. Never needed any help. Expected this one to be just as easy to install and delightful to use. Or even more so, being bluetooth. Wish that HAD been my experience. Had no idea there is not a support number for Think Outside. Had never had reason for one before.

I ordered the keyboard early in March and at the same time ordered the Bluetooth Travel Mouse. Had planned to install them together. But the Travel Mouse didn't come with the keyboard. I kept waiting. (Turns out the travel mouse is on major -- couple month -- back order.) When I realized that almost 30 days had passed since the keyboard had arrived and the mouse was not here yet, I decided I had better load the keyboard software and try it out. Wish I'd played with it the day it arrived. Would have given me plenty of time to do the slow back-and-forth email thing with Stowaway and, hopefully, get it going.

If you have a Dell Pocket PC, this is probably not going to be plug and play for you. (But if you do get it going, I'll bet you'll love it.)

    Best,
    kwc

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Hardware. Poor Software.
When I installed the driver on my Dell Axim X30 the device became unusable. The "Built-in Storage" section of memory had disappeared.A hard reset and restore from backup brought things back to normal and the second install attempt succeeded. Not too much fiddling to get the devices paired and talking.

The feel of the keyboard is really good. I've used laptops that were less intuitive for my fingers. I'm still getting used to the route to the numbers and symbols. PDA keyboards I have owned in the past were not rigid enough to be used in a lap. I wanted this one because it was reputed to have improved on this, and I am not disappointed. I can easily use it in bed to IM my sister or whatever.

Another unexpected bit of happiness came when I tried to use the keyboard while I had a Bluetooth ActiveSync connection. I didn't expect it to work, but it does. Cool!

Overall I would recommend this product. The instructions say to back up the device before you install the driver and that turned out to be very good advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool
I've been dreaming of getting this, or another, keyboard for my Dell Axim x30 since the first time I wrote a detailed email on it. No matter what, writing 1000 plus characters with the stylus and on-screen keyboard just doesn't work out.

So, the package arrives with my new keyboard, first thing I notice is the batteries ARE included (yippie - my wife had used the last of our 'spare' AAA's in one of the kids games). Next, I was pleasantly surprised by how sturdy the keyboard feels.Despite other reviews that I've read, I noted no loose keys. Finally (just in reference to the look and feel) I am blown away by the nice tactile feel of the keystrokes!

Now it is time to set it up. I activated my PDA, connected (via BlueTooth) to my desktop using ActiveSync. Installing the driver over the connection went fine, though it seems not to function if you install it to the storage card. Downloading and installing an updated driver is a little confusing too. NOTE: Turn bluetooth OFF before activating the software, if your bluetooth is on when you go to activate the software (after resetting your device) the software won't find the bluetooth system.

Once up and running, this keyboard is even better than what I have been expecting, it has nicely laid out hotkeys for openning PDA functions and programs, making the stylus almost obsolete.

Overall, other than a few SMALL snags with setup, the quality and operation of this keyboard are excellent! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst customer service for a bad product
I would have given this -10 stars if I could.I had mine for less than 90 days when it just wouldn't turn on.This happened around Christmas, so I couldn't contact them until after the 90 days was up.When I contacted them, they wanted to charge me to talk to them on the phone and wanted me to pay $100 to have it repaired. It took me 2 1/2 months to get them to finally fix it for free.1 month later, I finally got a refurbished one mailed back to me.(They also kept my cover that noone told me to remove)Then about 3 months later, the one that they sent to me died. When I contacted the company again, they said it would cost $100 to fix it.When I complained, the man that I spoke with told me he could give me 1/2 off another one.I then gave their customer service a bad review. No one ever contacted me.This is the worst piece of junk and the company that makes it is even worse. They don't care about making a product that is good, and they don't care about making the customer happy. Also when you call customer service, you can't get anyone in America.I would steer clear of this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mine died!
I bought my Palm M130 less than a year ago and it was great. Then one day it wouldn't turn on.I hit the reset button and it was fine for a few months. Then recently it wouldn't turn on again.I tried resetting it in different ways and no luck. Now i have a dead palm and all my phone numbers and calender info are stuck in my work computer!i wouldn't bother buying this product as i am sure it will die on you too :(

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent PDA with all basic features
I bought this Palm back in December 2002, and so far it has never let me down. Okay, the PDAs standards have developed a lot, but the basic features of this device remain useful: calendar, address book, and the Docs to go.
I am now giving thoughts to get an state-of-the-art PDA, but the bad reviews I've read here at Amazon regarding the Tungsten Chave make me think about moving to a smartphone, perhaps Sony Eriksson P900...

5-0 out of 5 stars Does everything I needed!
I did a lot of research before purchasing my first palm pilot (my m130 for myself as a mother's day gift) and I am so glad I moved from a paper calendar to this.I originally hoped to get a phone and pda in one but to be honest w/a laptop at work and a computer at home w/internet access, I don't need wireless connectivity and I have found that anything with any phone feature gets so ridiculously expensive in addition to wanting you to pay for wireless service in addition to phone... well... I decided the option to add wireless later if I need it does exist on the m130, so I got it and a cell phone separately.

I have never had any trouble, have had it over a year and I really maximize the calendar and contacts features using outlook at work and transferring everything to my palm daily.I used the documents to go feature frequently before I got a laptop, so that was really handy as a storage unit so I could work on documents between home and work.I have for the most part, given up on taking notes most of the time more because of our work culture, then the pda, when it is appropriate I certainly use the note pad feature the most of the "extras".But for everything I hoped it would do... it has been perfect.

I did have to get some help from IT at work to get my outlook to synchronize properly w/the palm software, but once it was all set up it has never crashed or done anything wrong for me.There are a lot of people at my office who use this model and say the same.Slowly the whole organization is switching to outlook calendars and this really makes it easier.

3-0 out of 5 stars Be Sure A Palm is Right For You
A Palm Pilot can either be one's best friend or one's biggest burdon. This review is designed for a first time Palm buyer to give you the strengths and weaknesses of this model(the M130) and Palm Pilots in general, so that YOU can decide whether you need another useless peice of plastic in your life or not.

The Draw and the Drawbacks of Palms in General---
Palm Tops are a very nice way to write notes to yourself (if you like learning to write in grafiti), keep a neat calender and hold on to important names and numbers. It is clean-- self contained and much more proffessional looking that a paper and pen. But is it More efficient? If you are out of room in your day planner and find yourself so busy and overbooked that you are constantly forgetting dates, this is a nice alternative-- if you think it would be fun and useful, try somethiung else.Overall I found that a Palm Pilot takes so much time to set up and operate that it seemed more efficent to go back to pen and paper.I found, for example, that it took me much much longer to write detailed notes, as I was so frustraed that I abbraviated and shortened until my note was useless and illegable jargon.Soon I ran into a guilt complex, "should I just give up?OH NO, but I payed so much money..."So I kept using it.Finally I gave up, and as part of the healing process I wrote this review.

    "Special" Features---This Model
-Color Screen: If you want a few extra bucks to look like you payed a few hundred this is for you.Very Mid range color screen, but it gets the job done.

-Internet: There are much better ways to connect to the internet, a computer for example (or even a cell phone). This feature seemed pretty useless to me.

-Picture Viewing: Great, you can upload pictures and look at them... maybe even send them to other people. My only question is- how often wil this be more convienient that a computer?

    -Games:Oh Goody!

-Read uploaded Text Documents: If you like reading things on a screen go for it-- I got lots of headaches.

-"Scribble" Pad:This is the best thing ever-- I wrote lots of illegable notes and drew funny pictures, woo hoo!

    Last Words--
Palm Pilots are a great way to organize a busy schedule, nothing more, nothing less.If you feel that paper and pen aren't cutting it-- make the switch, but know that it will most likely be a bit of a headache at the start, and the headache may continue until you go back to your day planner.Best of Luck ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good product. - Thick
    Pros:
    humongous, clear face - stunning
    pretty watch
    easy user interface
    waterproof, bangproof, everything proof
    many timer features
MSN Direct - like nothing else

    Cons:
$60 per year, unless you just want to keep time for $300
    $300 for the watch
THICK - I thought there was a mistake on the amazon review. This seriously is half an inch thick.
    No hourly weather

Great product. It is still amazing to me. The backlight is strong, and I get the sports scores while riding my bike! It is easy to use for a "gadget". Note: this is much better than the Fossil/Fossil-Abacus watches. It can take a beating, and recieve messages. Graphics are clear and common. It is a great watch (I believe, because this is my first watch). Just note: this thing is really thick. Every picture seems to hide it, but not this one: shermans.gotdns.com/SuuntoN3.jpg. Think this watch over - it is different. However, it is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Watch
This is an awesome watch.Forget the naysayers.Just buy it.

2-0 out of 5 stars overrated, again microsoft in over it's head
I feel gyped after having used this a few months. It has a few neat features and keeps perfect time but it's ugly, heavy and has no two way anything and to have to pay MSN on top of this is obscene

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but...
I've had my Suunto for about 2 months, and I really like it.

    Pros:
-Battery lasts a long time, probably can go 7-10 days without a recharge. When traveling, can recharge from your laptop with a USB port as long as you have the cable.
-Love having Outlook pushed to my watch, don't have to whip out the PDA to see where I need to be next. The watch will count down the amount of time to your next appointment (or how late you are!).
-Correct time as long as you're in the MSN direct service area.
-Sports content is betting better, given the late start time for NBA playoffs, I can pop out of bed in the AM and check out the scores and the box scores.
-Excellent customer support from MSNdirect.I've e-mailed tech support and always gotten a response - one that works - within a couple of hours.

    Cons:
-Will MSN direct survive or will you be left with a $300 watch that functions like a $20 watch?
-Some features a little buggy - I've had to reset the watch to receive content and correct time information when traveling.
-The only watch that will cost you $60 every year that you own it.You could buy a lot of watches for that money.

Bottom line: great for gadget-freaks, the obsessive compulsive (always have the correct atomic-clock time), those with busy calendars. For me, taking a stealth peak at my watch versus pulling out a PDA or cell phone is less disruptive/obtrusive in many meeting settings.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool product which might not survive
Really a neat, smart product, especially if you love new electronic toys. What I am concerned about is not the watch but Microsoft, which with its notorious arrogance might kill it before it has the chance to grow and glow
Their customer support is everything but support. The "first line" technician is very polite, but cannot help beyond taking your info and refering you to a "specialist", which if you are lucky, will call you in 4-5 (business) days.
Microsoft is not very good in keeping their promises either; they say the sport channal is"around the corner" and even use it in their ads, but it has been just around the corner for the last three months. They also promise "new watch face every month", well I own the watch for 3 month now and got just one new face when I subscribed.
So it's in Microsoft power to keep this watch ticking... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT BUY IPAQS!
Product is overpriced for its chintzy characteristics. Looks really nice, but as they say,"looks can be deceiving".I bet 90 percent of the iPaqs out there that have been purchased from 2003 through the present date are either completely useless or are in some need of repair and 99 percent of those broken are most likely not the fault of the purchaser.Hp/Compaq has a HUGE problem with screens (as you can read from the other hundreds of negative postings on Amazon alone).Mine was very well taken care of and lasted about as long as everyone else's has (5-6 months).I even purchased the extended warranty plan, in which you have no way of proving that you did not drop the unit. SOL! My suggestion: file a complaint with your local attorney general. That'll scare HP! (oh wait, they dont care because they are overseas in another country).

3-0 out of 5 stars Love the unit but super fragile.
When I started using the HP1945 it was the ultimate timesaver for me, especially the Outlook Contacts. I loved the design and the way it worked. After one week of use, the screen cracked just from being in my shirt pocket, and the unit was useless. I was lucky and able to return it as defective to the store I bought it from, and get a refund. I will be searching for a similar, but sturdier PDA.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good if no problems, terrible customer service
I bought my IPAQ 1945 in Feb of 2004 and after six months of great use the screen started flickering.I sent it in and was told that "You have spilled water on it and it will cost $190 to replace the screen."(a rude way to put it even if true). I knew it was not true but apparently had no recourse.Either pay up or do without. Now after going six month's without a PDA I'm getting ready to buy another and I just can't make myself get another HP.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but never great; the fatally flawed Clinton of PDA's
The HP1945 is a very good idea, with some serious problems. I've just ordered my third one. The first one lasted a month, the screen cracked, and after arm-twisting, HP replaced it. The second one lasted 14 months. This one is out of warranty, so I didn't bother with HP. It appears that the power supply went and fried the circuit board. (At least the blazingly hot spot on the casing and the near-instantaneous power drain of the lithium cell makes me suspect that.)

So why am I ordering a third one. a) I'm an idiot, b) I'm an optimist, or c) The 1945 just happens to do exactly what you need a PDA to do, perfectly, with no extra baggage?

[sigh] I'm afraid it's all three. This liitle machine is compact, versatile, efficient, and does exactly what I need it to do. Then it breaks far to soon, and really ticks me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars experience with iPAQ 1945 model
    Regarding the iPAQ 1945:

FWIW:I have been using this iPAQ model with Outlook 2002 and Microsoft ActiveSync with a Windows XP Professional machine for quite some time now (1 year? if forget).Sync'ing is not a problem (reported elsewhere), either with the direct cable or using Bluetooth.Considering how big a pain windows can be in general, there is probably something else going on with the reported problem of windows sync'ing and the iPAQ 1945.I have never had a problem with that feature.

For the price, the device has been a pretty good piece of equipment and I have become addicted to the basic capabilities it provides. If I shopped around some more, I am sure there would be more powerful devices available, but this one is a good price and capability combination. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars V37 made me go back to paper dayrunner
I used to have an Ipaq and loved it - My job handed out the ViewSonic V37's and only allowed them to be connected to computers/networks.

The V37 locks up, from turn on to actual use is 30+ seconds, not real fun when your trying to use it to manage your schedule, book an appt, or just look at your calendar for the day.

I found it slow, unresponsive and have given it back.I would rather use a paper planner - viewsonic killed my love of the pocket pc.My next purchase will be a pda/phone/all in one type.Money is no option - quality and performance counts and I did not like the V37.Sell it for scrap.......

3-0 out of 5 stars Can't Upgrade Operating System
There are data syncing issues with this model and other strange behaviors. Unfortunately Viewsonic is no longer offering an upgrade to Pocket PC 2003 which should fix some of these issues. Here is the response from their technical support: "The PPC 2003 upgrade CD for the Pocket PC V37 is no longer in production.". I personally would not purchase anything that can't be upgraded! Buyer beware! The screen resolution is not that great either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Viewsonic PPC After one year
I've owned two IPAQs, and several PALMs. This is the best little gadget I ever had. The screen is so bright that even battery-saving settings are clear. Battery life is good, almost 4 hours continuous. Having a Flash Memory and an SD card I record music, books and games. You can listen to headphones and read a book at the same time for hours!

4-0 out of 5 stars Viewsonic - battery not that bad, very good PDA vs iPaqs
Regarding the previous review concerning battery anomalies - they can be fixed. However, all PDA's have problems with dumping memory when the battery runs out.You will learn how long your PDA lasts given your personal use, and how often you must overnight-charge it (or use a travel charger).

I've had many Pocket PC's - this is the fastest, lightest, easiest to use that I have tried.Much better than many of the iPaqs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, bad quality control
I got the Viewsonic V37 as part of the Visual Studio .NET giveaway. Things seemed to be fine for the first couple of weeks, except the power display, which would never show less than 100% battery, even when run down to 0.

The next symptom was the machine would not turn off until it burned out the battery or had a hard reset. As this was not acceptable, I wrote to Viewsonic on their web. As I was writing, the machine did a death roll and the only sign there was any life was the indicator light blinking on and off.

It took a few days to dig up the PRN number to get to send it back. Since the return address was bouncing my mail, I had to start the process over again.

Friday, I got the PocketPC back with a note that the system board was replaced. I noticed the power display still did not work, so I figured it was either a common Viewsonic problem, or I had another lemon.

Today, the following Wednesday, the machine only displays a picture of the Viewsonic birds. Soft reset, birds. Hard reset, birds with a "wait for 30 seconds" message and then just birds.

I have a hard time recommending a device that has such poor quality control. I am going to give them one more chance. As it costs quite a few bucks to ship and insure, I am not going to do it more than one more time.

    Just for comparison:
I have an older PocketPC that has been through hell. I set it on top of the car one day and drove off. I remember when it flew off the back. I picked it up with a slight mark to remind me of my carelessness. Still works perfectly to this day. Contrast this to the Viewsonic which has given me a couple of weeks TOTAL of enjoyment and more than a month of no service (including time spent at the service facility). ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ipaq 3955, no memory
I did get this to work in one way or another. In ce 2002 the memory showed up but no WiFi.I upgraded to CE2003 and the WiFi works, but no memory. The reason I bought this was that J&R expressly said it worked on the 3955.I am a bit disappointed that it isn't fully functional, but the WiFi works, so I guess I will keep it.I hope they update the drivers, but after talking to Sandisk, I am not holding my breath. They weren't too interested in helping me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not work on HP iPAQ 3955
It not work on my hp 3955.I was call HP 3 times, but I get the difference answer every time.,finally they told me the negative answer. And told me my PDA was out of guarantee, need to call the tech. support with charge .($$$)( They care about customer pay them only, don't care about what is the customeron feeling)
sandisk was give me the answer fast than HP. (it was not work on it card w/memory ,but it was too late )
Some one told we don't check the website before we buy it, but it was hard to get the answer sometime.
before I order it card,I was read the review from someone on amazon site to told ,it was working on hp 3955,but it was not !!

1-0 out of 5 stars Does NOT work with Audiovox 6600 and Pocket PC 2003 2nd Edi
I bought this product after reading a review that stated that the drivers finally worked after performing the ROM upgrade from the Audiovox website. This is simply not true. While the ROM upgrade does fix/enhance other features of the Audiovox 6600, it DOES NOT fix the driver issue with this product. After installing the driver and utility for the product, the wifi card is only recognized one out of every 30 (or so) soft resets and I was prompted to format the storage portion of the card most other times. No format ever completed successfully and the storage portion of the card was only accessible one out of every 15 (or so) soft resets. After calling SanDisk technical support and going over this issue with them, they stated that it is a known issue with their dual SDIO bus driver and they suggested that I return this product and purchase their other sd wifi card without the storage.
I have read rumors in discussion threads that SanDisk is planning on releasing a driver that will actually work with Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition but I would not recommend purchasing this product until it is released.

1-0 out of 5 stars 256 MB + WiFi SD Card

5-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy if you have a Axim X50!!!!
I bought this product by mistake, I was actually able to install the program on my X50 but wasn't able to make it work.We tried it on a MIO and it worked just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Fine !
I purchased the e805 dispite the bad reviews here and let me tell you mine works fine. I use it with navagation software and find it works way better than I expected.(travroute) E-mail works fine as does connecting to wireless internet services. I have had no problems with the screen. Not to mention I got lucky and paid $499.00 from COMPUSA. 2 THUMBS UP...Anyone interested in navagation software should give TRAVROUTE a try.

2-0 out of 5 stars A very unhappy camper
I placed one of the earliest orders for this unit. The unit is fine, as far as that goes.
    Feb 2, 2004
Now I am having problems with the device (see appended comments below)

    March 18, 2004
More problems: the unit is now inoperable (see appended comments)

    Additional Comments as of 2004-02-08:
    1) The touch screen is now starting to malfunction. When I first turn the unit on I am getting many clicks (as if I am tapping the screen, which I am not). Also, later, if I even touch the case at the upper/right corner (not even near the actual display) the unit clicks (as if I am tapping the screen). Also upper sides of case sometimes.
    2) Status of Toshiba Order for critical supplies (screen overlays and replacement styli):
Shipping is Waiting to Pack Order (from Toshiba account status)
In other words, they still don't have the items. About March 10, 2004 the screen overlays FINALLY arrived. Not a bad turnaround for something critical - two months. However, the unit is now inoperable, the screen does not respond. Did a total system reset, was operable for awhile. Then, screen clicking like a geiger counter it has stopped responding again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Had to return mine, screen doesn't respond
When I first took it out of the box, it didn't, but I thought that was because the battery needed to be charged. I did finally get it setup and working. It was beautiful. Then the screen started acting weird, I'd tap the scroll bar and the today screen would pop back up, or I'd tape the "next" button and a different program would flash and then go away and then back to the today screen. Sometimes I'd turn it on and the screen wouldn't respond, then all of a sudden it did again. It was getting so bad that I hard reset and still couldn't get the screen to respond. I tried calling Toshiba, who only offers 90 days tech support, and they said they'd have someone call me back. A week later, I called them again and a week later I called a third time. Finally, I couldn't get the unit to respond at all, so I called J&R (where I purchased it via Amazon link) and they told me to send it back. They'd check it out and IF they found a problem they'd exchange it and refund my shipping fee. A lot of hassle for a very expensive machine, Toshiba is awful. I hope J&R comes through, as they agreed. They were nice on the phone, I think they will.
I did get my new, replacement from J&R. I was charged for it and I'm still waiting for them to credit me for the one I returned to them. The new one works MUCH better! It's a pleasure to use. I've only let the battery run down once; it stays pretty good, 4 or 5 days with normal use. This screen works the way it should. It responds well and it's really quick. I restored from a backup on my CF card and was up and running in seconds. I really love it. I like the CF and SD card slots and the fast processor. I like it much better than the iPAQ 5455 I had.

1-0 out of 5 stars unreliable!
i got my unit and as soon as i took it out of the box, i found that the screen would not respond to the stylus.so, i could not use it past the initialization stage!this unit has all sorts of problems that you can read about on forums, such as:

    - screen taps not responding
    - noise coming from the unit
    - batteries not holding charge

although i was aware of bad experiences some people had, i really wanted the vga screen and thought i would try it out anyway...

turned out to be a big waste of time, since i had to wait about 3 weeks for this thing to get off back order!

i have purchased all kinds of technology items and have never had anything with such a major defect upon opening it; this is just unacceptable. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Alas, not for Treo600
Unfortunately, this device will not work with the palmOne Treo 600, despite the Product Specification sheet for the Treo 600's specific claim that its SDIO port could be used to support a bluetooth card...This is apparently because of an incompatibility between the Palm OS5 operating system used on the Treo600 and the palmOne bluetooth card.

Beyond that, the form factor is "problematic" at best, as the "antenna" on the bluetooth card sticks out quite a bit from the edge of the phone.

3-0 out of 5 stars works OK with latest drivers, but it sticks out way too far
I didn't realize how far this would protrude from my m515.I think I'd prefer a tungsten at this point. The manufacturer (Toshiba) is supposed to start selling one that is substantially shorter, so it protrudes only half as much.

The software that came with it is quite bugtastic.I found myself resetting my poor palm many times a day when using bluetooth networking. This improved greatly when I downloaded palm's updated drivers and software. Now it's only as buggy as the applications I run (unfortunately that's still awfully buggy!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Product.
When I first was introduced to bluetooth I found myself looking for bluetooth devices. The first one that came to mind was the Palm handheld. I decided to fork out the [money] and buy one of these cards for my Palm m505, and I don't regret it. The card is extremely small, and fits in my Palm carrying case.

The card works well with MacOS X and my D-Link Bluetooth USB Adaptor. I can sync my m505 wireless using this bluetooth card, and better yet, I can be 30 feet away from my computer, I can sit on the couch and sync my m505.

The card should also work with bluetooth compliant phones, this is another nice touch.

5-0 out of 5 stars A neat accessory
A simple and easy to use Palm accesory.Useful for people having other Bluetooth devices like GSM cell phone and laptop computers.I use it to sync, dial, SMS between my Palm M130 and Nokia 8910.Very small size (slightly bigger than a traditional expandable memory card), carries easily with the palm.Comes bundled with a CD that is easy to install.Five Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Print from your Palm -- up to 30 feet away!
As a heavy Palm user -- for calendar, memos, to-do lists, and word processing -- I found the Palm Bluetooth SD Card to be the perfect accessory. With it, I can print up to 30 feet away to my HP 995 Bluetooth printer.

By also adding Docs To Go (from Dataviz) and BtPrint (from ISComplete.com), I can also print MS Word documents, as well as items from the major Palm applications (calendar, memo, address book, to-do lists and e-mail).

(For additional printer flexibility, I can also switch to IR mode which will allow me to output to any infrared capable printer -- such as my HP DeskJet 350, 990, 995 or Photosmart 1315 printers -- up to just 12" away.)

With the above capabilities, I can now sit in my favorite chair, write or modify documents on my Palm, and then "beam" them across the room to my printer -- without ever having to leave my seat or go upstairs to sync with my desktop computer!Being able to print from my Palm (via Bluetooth) allows me to work more independently (since I'm not tied as much to my PC) -- and it allows me to output a copy of my documents so that I can check my work more readily (since reading a sheet of paper, obviously, is much easier to review than my Palm's small screen).

Here are some of my favorite things to print:

-MS Word documents (or drafts) that I've written or modified on my Palm.

-Other documents which I've saved in my Palm that are useful as references in meetings.

-E-mails, which I find to be very handy, especially when I work from home.

-Address book entries to share with others who don't have a Palm.

-A copy of my calendar for today, so that I can refer to it (and write notes on it) without having to look inside my Palm.

-Meeting notes that I've just written (using my Targus fold-up keyboard), which I can then file immediately.

-A copy of my to-do list which allows me to keep working while my Palm is syncing.

Being able to print from my Palm allows me to use it -- as if it were a mini-PC!(I wouldn't use my regular computer, for example, without being able to print from it.Why should working on my Palm be any different?)

With my Palm Bluetooth SD Card, I can now utilize my Palm to its fullest.I love it! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced junk software that is unreliable
First I bought the universal kit for a mind boggling $80, then had to pay $30 for the cable for my phone + $9 shipping handling (I'm supposed to get a $10 rebate, but I'm still waiting). After spending over $100 for this, I installed it, and appeared to have succefully installed the driver for my Audiovox 8910.When I load the DataPilot software and try to connect to COM3 (the Susteen cable), it does not recognize my device. After spending some much time with the ackward install process and having to pay extra for a cheap cable, I am returning this junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to install! Very poor implementation!!
A very cool idea but not implemented well by this company.

Had to install the software twice. after the software installed, the program asked if I wanted to do "Updates." So I clicked "yes." Nothing happened. It turns out that one has to register the software before one qualifies for an update but there should be a registration form first before the update or even an error message.

After the first install w/updates, I connected the USB cable between the computer and my phone. The USB cable showed up as an "unknown device." [And I did not connect the cable until everything, including updates, was installed.] So I removed the entire installation, did a System Restore and re-installed the software. Then after second install, the program informed me that I had used up all 8 of my handset allowances--my husband and I just purchased 2 Motorola 551s, and I was moving MY cell phone book from my old v60 to the FIRST 551 [which is TWO phones by my count, since I hadn't connected the second 551 at all].

This package is not intuitive at all and does not work well or consistently. I have to agree with most of the other reviewers: it IS one of the worst software/hardware packages I've ever used.

I have been a programmer since 1979, have a degree in Computer Science and several certifications. It's not like I don't have some experience in software design and implementation.

If I don't get some satisfaction from Susteen, I will complain to Best Buy [where I got it] and my credit card company. For $80, it ought to work better than this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked Perfectly
I purchased this product because a year ago I lost my cell phone with a 100 plus numbers in it.I lost over half of them because they were only store in the phone.I still haven't recovered all of the numbers yet.I wich I had this program then. The install was easy.It loaded the driver for the cable then another driver for the phone, which makes sense since they are two different devices.I have a Motorola 551 and the software read it with no problems.Even though it was not important to me at first, the ringtone editor is now my favorite feature.I have loaded many MP3s to my phone, using the Melody Transfer option.I did have to use a different program (Audacity) to reduce the length of the song down to a 30 to 40 second clip.I found that a full song uses a lot of the phone's memory.ALso, the image editor made it easy for me to download the pictures from the phone.I was trying to use the DataConnect part of the program, then I found that with Cingular, I would have to pay for their DataConnect service which is an additional fee, something like $20-$80 per month.Cingular's sytem doesn't let their subscribers log into other ISPs, like Earthlink. When I check more more into this feature, Verizon and T-Mobile services does. The Calandar featured worked fine with my Outlook. I can see myself using it when I travel and I want to put my flight information on the phone. All in all, I like the program and I wished I had it before I lost my phone last year.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unusable internet connection
If you have any idea that using this software on a laptop with a cell phone would be a passable way to access the internet while on the road... forget it. It is PAINFULLY SLOW. Maybe it works well for sync'ing phone data, maybe it doesn't - either way, buy it on that merit - just don't expect real internet connectivity, or you'll be disappointed.

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST support ever
Product worked just OK, but would not update.Benny Wong provided smug and terse responses to emails for support, obviously not reading the emails he was answering.Eventually he sent a link to a download that rendered the program completely unusable. After that, he stopped responding to all emails. Now I have a program that won't work and cannot be registered again to reactivate because it is already registered. ... 4. It now has a low price than 2 years ago.
    5. will atract and impress many people

    CONS
    1. bad battery life (can buy extra battery . 3X longer also sold at amazon
    very cheap.
    2. limited applications

I think this is a very good p.e.o. and you shoud buy it if you like attention or really need it

4-0 out of 5 stars Love mine, but there are some problems
I bought my UX-50 off eBay for about half the going rate of a refurbished new unit. Since I paid so little, I really don't have much to complain about. However, if I had paid $500 for a new-refurbished unit - or $800 for a brand-new unit when the UX-50s were first released - I probably would not have given a 4-star review.

    Here are the positives:
    - I don't understand why so many people complain about the UX-50 only having a "landscape" screen option. I got used to using the landscape screen in no time. There are third-party programs you can download to convert some applications to portrait mode if you want, but I really didn't feel the need. Granted, the landscape screen means there's a lot of wasted space on the touchscreen, but I didn't have any problems using the screen as-is. I also think the screen size is AWESOME considering the features packed into this little gadget.
    - The functionality is, without a doubt, amazing. The UX-50 can replace your keychain digital camera, digital voice recorder, PDA, MP3 player AND you can check your e-mail with it! They managed to pack a lot of features into this little PDA.
    - Sound on the MP3 player is great. I have a Sony VAIO laptop that has a built-in Memory Stick port so it's really easy for me to put a ton of music onto my 512 MB stick and have music wherever I go. I have a Nomad MP3 player but I rarely use it because the UX-50's MP3 player is so easy to use.
    - The camera is great and takes good pictures in enough light. The zoom feature is neat.
    - The PDA functionality is exactly what you'd expect - it works well. The UX-50 has enough internal memory for you to load lots of programs into it.

    Negatives:
    - It took me a lot of tinkering and research to get the 802.11B wireless feature to work. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the wireless connection software in most UX-50s, and if yours has the problem you have to download a special program, called Mobile Manager, to get it to work correctly. Not that Sony tells you this - I had to research it for myself on user bulletin boards. After a LOT of tweaking my wireless works - sometimes. The mobile browser, NetFront, won't load graphics-heavy pages and is quick to give "insufficient memory" and timeout errors. Unfortunately there's no way to upgrade NetFront 3.0, which came with the UX-50, to NetFront 3.1.
    - Battery life truly does suck. I solved this by purchasing a third-party manufactured case and car kit off of eBay - the case has a USB port integrated, so now I can plug the USB sync cable into the case's port and charge my Clie. The car kit consists of a USB cable and an adapter that fits my car's cigarette lighter. Now I can charge wherever I go, which helps greatly with the battery life issue. And I don't have to use the stupid "charging sled" to do it. Which brings me to my next point...
    - I would really like to know why Sony made a PDA that you can't charge with a USB cable. It seems ridiculous to me. Before I found the USB-port case I had to lug the stupid charger and sled around with me. The charger is bulky and the sled makes the UX-50 too thick to fit in a pocket or small purse. As it is, now I can't plug the UX-50 in and let it charge while I sync it throughout my workday, which is always what I've done with other PDAs. This was a really dumb design idea.
    - The only other negative thing is that some parts of the UX-50 feel flimsy - I often feel like I am going to break the screen off rotating it back and forth, and the USB sync port has a small cover that feels like it could rip off at any time.

Overall, though, this is a great productivity tool and very nifty to carry around. It has a considerable "cool factor" and there's great functionality to boot. The negatives are bummers, but this thing is basically a mini laptop computer with a camera built in, so I don't expect everything to be perfect. I'm just bummed Sony's no longer going to be selling PDAs in the U.S. - hopefully they will change their minds before my UX-50 dies or becomes obsolete.

4-0 out of 5 stars Attack of the Chimera PDA
Wow, what a device. I was impressed with this PDA on steriods from the moment I pulled it out of the box. Normally I am dissapointed when I purchase a new gadget. It either doesn't work as advertised or it is so convoluted that I excile it to the land of misfit toys. This PDA though comes through on all of its promised features. With a respectable digital photo, video and audio capability combined with 802.11 wireless, bluetooth, Infra Red as well as USB data interface capability, what more could a PDA require. To be fair and balanced, The UX-50 does have a few issues that detract from its status as PDA nirvana. One is its fragility. I feel like I am holding a delicate piece of bone china everytime I use it. Additionally, I am very dissapointed in Sony and their decision to get out of the PDA business, and just when they seemed to get it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
It seems like most of the software built-in or bundled with the Clie is either limited or requires a paid upgrade for full functionality.

Playing MP3's is a headache, transferring music, is only possible with the pro or magicgate versions of memory sticks, unless you use a third party player.

Printing, is not readily supported from most applications either, unless you transfer the file to a desktop.

Another complaint I have is not being able to transfer, print, or otherwise use Clie Memo files (handwritten notes) on anything but another Clie.I use a lot of handwritten notes in my work, and aside from being able to read them back on the screen, the information cannot be stored, shared or printed.

Using Bluetooth for Syncing works well, but file transfer isnt always possible.

The Browser that ships with the UX50 is out of date and impossible to update (version 3.0) while it does work, 3.1 offers a lot better functionality and viewability.Checking web based e-mail is not supported by the current browser either.

The ux50 is not a bad PDA, but don't expect it to work well out of the box.there are a lot of third-party programs out there to work out a lot of the "bugs" but be prepared to pay more for them.

My advice to someone looking for a pda is to check out the PEG -TH55(also from sony)Its got most of the same features (minus the keyboard)and a much larger viewable screen area

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice toy.. definitely not worth the $
Bought a UX50 used off eBay. Have had it for about a month. I would pay 400$ max for a used one. Now that Sony has stopped the entire Clie line, you should find them cheap off the internet.

    PROS:
    - Nice keyboard
    - Love the fact that you can listen to music at the same time performing other functions like browsing, email etc (probably an OS5 feature not restricted to this model only)
    - The wireless works like a charm right out of the box.
    - Great resolution.

    CONS:
    - Had to soft boot at least 3-4 times already.
    - Most apps require portrait mode which the UX50 does not natively support.
    - Battery life - 3hrs max if you use the wireless.
    - Need an additional memory stick (128MB - 40$)
    - Crappy camera - 0.3MP!!! cmon Sony!
    - Native doc support restricted to read only.
    - Need the docking station to charge, no direct connection to PDA.

    Must have software:
    - you can enable the landscape mode for most apps using Code Diver. This is a MUST if you want to use the UX50.

(shareware + 10$. Remember to use the latest beta and not the handango version)
    - Also I strongly recommend buying Documents to Go and Contacts to Go (add another 75$ to the tag)

Overall, you can end up spending about 1000$ to make this thing really usable, not worth it. But if you dont mind getting a used one cheap off eBay, this is definitely a nice toy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars As A Replacment It will do the Job
As some reviews complained that the stylus was to small and did not stay extended I find it acceptable. The two units I purchased stayed extended and the pen worked. The stylus tip shows that it should unscrew to reset some palms but this does not seem to work on the ones I received. Since my NX73V has the reset on the side the tip will fit just fine. Note they are made in China and by no means as good a quality as the original from Sony but they will work and there are not to many places to get the extendable stylus to fit into original product slot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Price???
I wonder why the List Price says $12.99 and the "New Reduced Price" is $28.99.Seems like an awful lot for 2 little stylus!

3-0 out of 5 stars You always need extras
They are tiny so if you have big hands these are not for you.I have one that does not stay extended so I wonder about the locking mechanism.

    I ended up getting a nice stylus/pen.

They are good for when I forget to bring my stylus!

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiny Stylus, Impossible to Use
Too tiny to hold and ergonomically a failure. My advice is go and get a bigger replacement stylus than these. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable and unstable
Very unreliable and unstable product. Issues I had with Palm OS5 install:
    1. Installation does not occur automatically. It says it will, but nothing happens - so you have to do a manual install. Its easy to do - one just needs to know!!
    2. Palm resets every time I use it.
    3. Graphics are incomplete (which makes a mapping software kinda useless) half the time. Alleged solution - more memory - did not work for me.
    4. Applied their patch - now it freezes if I try to start it!
    5. Removed and re-installed - now I am getting GP02 GPS errors - go figure!!

All in all, I had this product for 48 hours from the time I received it in the mail to the time I put it in the return package to the store.

It is not Palm OS5 compliant - it is only (probably - I can't say for sure) compliant with a few specific Palm models. Since when did consumers need to go to the product data sheet on the manufacturer's obscure website to figure this out!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice TOY if you already have a compatible Palm
Dylan Spears review is an excellent one. This is product is certainly not for serious use. Software needs lot of work. GPS box is pretty good. Always gets a fix and bluetooth connection is reliable. Navman is going to come up with a new software release in late summer.

Other shortcomings of this products are

    1) Lack of charger adapter for Palm. They could have easily used a Y style cable and plug to charge palm.

2)Software always chooses the same route irrespective of the routing option (Fastest / Shortest) chosen. e.g. San jose to LA always picks 580 to I-5. Shorter route is 152E to I-5.

    3) Suction mount for GPS is inconvenient. Power plug and the indicator is on the glass side. You have to hunt for power switch to turn it on and then in day time it's hard to figure out whether it is ON or not.

    4) GPS hw always turns off even if external power is present. You always have to turn it on. Kind of annoying.

    5) SW crashes often. It will start repeating a turn again and again and again then die.

    6) Suction mount for PDA has wrong orientation if you want to mount it on the windsheild left to your steering (best position). Glue on Plastic base is not heat resistant. Falls off in an hour if you leave your car in sun.

    7) Database errors. Out of 10 destinations 3 were wrong. They were not in a new area.

    8) Limited display option. You can not see time and distance to destination at the same time.

    9) Does not understand zip code. Takes lot of time to enter an address.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too many obvious omisions...
The maps and GPS receiver function well, but the software has several obvious omissions that undermine the true potential of the system:

1). Doesn't allow listing POI's by distance from your current location - instead it lists all POI's in the database in alphabetical order. When in an unfamiliar area, I'd like to be able to select restaurants or gas stations and have the software list all available sorted by distance from my current location, rather than requiring me to know the exact names and locations. I mean, for a gas station, what's more important, the name or how close it is? (Especially when you're running on fumes in an unfamiliar area).

2). Lack of integration with native Palm software applications, most notably the address book/contact database application. It really should be able to link to the address book to plot contact addresses - that is such an obvious omission. It doesn't even allow you to copy and paste addresses into the navigation software.

3). Tapping on a location or POI on the map causes a pop up menu to appear that allows you to see the name of the POI or street and to select it as a "departure" or "navigate to" point or to add it to your favorites, but a more helpful and useful feature would be to have the name, address and phone number pop up - and to offer the option of adding that information, not only to the favorites list but also to the Palm's address book for future reference and use.

4). Lack of road-type options. It allows you to avoid toll roads and urban areas and allows you to select either quickest or shortest routes, but having the option to select most or least use of freeways or side streets would really be helpful...as well as having the ability to reroute around traffic congestion.

5). The POI feature does not allow text entry searching, instead you start with "country" then "category" then "type" and finally "area". Having the ability to type in a name or partial name would be very helpful when trying to locate specific points of interest...like a restaurant. For example; a search for a restaurant in Dallas, TX requires you to go to the Points of Interest screen, select a country, select a category (Food and Drink), select a type (restaurant) and then provide an area to search. If you type in "Dallas" for the area you are provided with a list of restaurants in alphabetical order through which you may scroll down four screens - which doesn't even get through the "A"s...so, unless you only like eating at restaurants that have names beginning with either numbers or letters from "A" through "AL" then you won't be finding what you want on this software. Attempting to narrow down the search by entering a zip code for downtown Dallas just makes the software default to listing every restaurant in the state - again only four screens of scrollable selections - hope you like eating at restaurants with numbers for names. As a result of this problem, the POI feature is basically useless.

6). The company does most of its business in Europe and that fact is evident by the software's menu layout, some menu items and the use of European spelling (i.e. petrol stations, exhibition centre). This product was clearly ported over from European versions of the software and was rushed to the US marketplace without adequate "real world" testing and as a result, the final product much more resembles a playful toy than a serious tool. In fact, you could say that a more appropriate name for the Navman SmartST software would be the Navman DumbST software ;) The software translates fairly well for the most part, but I'm hopeful that future versions are more tailored to the way Americans think and the way this country is mapped out.

Though no application is ever a panacea, there are just a few too many compromises required with this particular system to justify keeping it. I plan to return my Navman in hopes of finding a Palm GPS system that's more feature rich and better integrated with the Palm computing platform's applications.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad map, no intelligence at all
I have the PPC version of this(DELL AXIM30), nothing but disappointment. Not sure if the PalmOS's better.

    pros: 3d looks fantastic.

    cons:
1)i was going down I-5 toward LA, and the software kept telling me to go back north because it chose to go another route. It didn't correct itself until half way between LA and SF.

    not to mention small streets.

2)require frequent rebooting. it locks up a lot! if you turn off and on the Bluetooth, or turn off/on the PPC, everything need to be reset.

Right now i just leave it in the car, not using it. My wife don't trust it at all. what a waste of money.

Probably I will try the other brand (software) on this receiver and see if it's better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware - Not compatible with Sony Clie
This product is not compatible with the Sony Clie PEG-TH55 and possibly other Clie models. The problem is that the Bluetooth link is lost every few minutes and it is necessary to turn both the Clie and the Navman off and on again before they will reconnect. This makes it unusable for navigation, especially if you are driving by yourself.

After weeks of frustration, Navman confirmed the Bluetooth problem in an email:

    Dear Customer,

After extensive research and testing the issues you are experiencing with your Sony Clié and the GPS 4460, we have discovered that there is a compatibility issue where the Sony will not accept the data sent from the GPS 4460 and will close down the Bluetooth connection.

As the problem does not lie specifically with the Navman GPS Receiver, we can unfortunately not change our receiver the make the whole system work.

In Light of this, we ask that you please go back to your retailer for a refund, indicating that the Sony Clié is not compatible with the Navman GPS 4460. The retailer should then contact Navman for any formalities regarding the refund.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    ---

Even when it was working the software lets it down. It takes a long time to start up on - typically 20s on a Clie and if you switch to another application to look up an address you have to wait another 20s while it re-starts.
