Great little Linux box
The SL-5600 comes with QTopia, an embedded version of Linux.It looks really good, and the software ROCKS!It can read and write Microsoft Word and Excel files, etc.

Synchronization leaves a bit to be desired. It doesn't work flawlessly, and only works with Windows.

HOWEVER, the Z's true strength is in Open Source softare.You can keep the included QTopia and install Linux apps.Or, you can replace QTopia with one of the OpenSource Linux distributions, and have a Linux workstation that gives you complete control.With the large amount of available RAM and two expansion slots (SD cards at least to 512 MB and CompactFlash cards), you have room to install anything you need.A huge amount of OpenSource Linux software is available for the Z, and most of it has been scaled down so that it takes a lot less space than it would on a full-sized machine.What this equates to, is that a 256 MB SD "hard drive" is equivalent to a 5-10 gigabyte hard drive on a full-sized computer.

OpenEmbedded (www.OpenEmbedded.org) and now Debian Pocket Workstation (http://www.pocketworkstation.org/) are two of the available Linux distributions.What's exciting about Debian Pocket Workstation is that you can run QTopia and a complete Debian distribution on the same machine.Switch back and forth as you need to.You can also build a complete cross-compilation tree on your own Linux computer, and compile and/or modify available open-source software for the Z.

If you want a simple, turn-key organizer, the Z probably isn't for you.But if you want a complete, powerful computer that fits in your pocket, the Z is the best machine you can get.Definitely worth its purchase price.

-Bought from Amazon and box is clearly marked PXA255. Thats an intel 400mhz process....the best in the PDA business for under $300..are you kidding me!
-Will take CF I&II (which means you can buy a Creative Muvo2, rip out the microdrive and use it in this PDA...in fact Hitachi has already tested the 4gb MD with this unit).
-Will take SD (yeah, it'll take both).
-Memory it comes with is incredible.
-Software possibilities are enormous.

Cons
-Screen (Poor quality)
-Screen (You will see a dark spot in the top right corner since the technology used for the TFT does not fully and properly illuminate the complete screen)
-Screen (did I say the screen is bad...oh yeah.
-Bulky (its light, but dont plan on putting this in your pants pocket unless you have cargo pants.
-Yeah - try using your stylus to close a program...for some reason it frequently takes more than 1 tap......

I'll try for a couple of weeks...if the cons outweigh the pros then its returnamundo...

Not worth the trouble
Hardware:

This thing is bulkier and has a smaller screen than comparable products.The thumb keyboard is comfortable and surprsingly fast but is of questionable utility as an integrated feature.Mine had a defective battery and frequently needed hard resets, returning it to its factory state and wiping the internal memory (which had everything I downloaded for it).Sharp directed me to the retailer and the retailer directed me to Sharp.Rinse, repeat.Then call your credit card...

Software:

OS
The directory structures are ridiculously deep and don't intuitively correspond to the folders in the windowing system.It doesn't come with any reasonable tool for browsing your directory tree either - you will have to buy or download one.

Hancom suite
This is a pathetic attempt to allow some MS office compatibility.It is useless for any powerpoint presentation over about 1MB, withfonts under about 28 pt, or with any graphics, and it throws away half your screen real estate by not rotating the display for slideshows.The Outlook app will really, really screw up your calendar, meetings, and contacts if you dare import anything back to a PC that you modified on the Zaurus - for example, it will make all recurring appointments into individual ones, meaning you must keep deleting them until infinity if it changes, or it will want to duplicate all of your contacts with new screwed-up, truncated copies.

Linux is one of the only reasons to buy this device.There is a nice base of avid users, and you will be able to find a ton of free applications for this device.I am confident there will be a support base of hackers for the Zaurus for a long time.If you don't tinker with programming enough to appreciate the open OS or aren't a pathological Windows basher, I think you will be dissappointed.

Exactly what i Want
This device is almost perfect for the linux user who wants something smaller than his\her laptop.In order to appreciate this device, you really have to like linux. If you have never used linux, dont bother, get yourself an M$ windows pda.

If you're like me and love linux, you'll love the zaurus.You can get virtually all main stream linux apps for it (gcc, make, apache, mysql...the list goes on and on).I especially like that fact that it has a java runtime, and with the addition of compiler (try ibm's Jikes compiled for zaurus) you have a pocket java development environment.

The fact that it has CF and SD slots means you can have your wifi and your extra storage in at the same time, which is a great plus.

The fold out keyboard is slightly slower than a full size, but still light years ahead of stupid handwriting recognition on other devices (although the z has that too)

There are tons of different roms availible, from sharp and others. One that fixes the pxa250 cache errata is definatly required, as you may have heard this is a bug which affects performance. But if you flash with a special kernel it fixes this bug and allows you to clock the device up to 471 mhz! NICE!

The Only thing I would add to this device is a built in DOWNSTREAM usb port, so that you can plug in usb devices.A Compact flash Usb card is availible from ratoc (for $150). I bought that too and now i can connect external HD's, Gamepads, Keyboards, Extra Wifi's, and maybe even printers or cd burners.

While Pocket PC Users can say things like "my Ipaq is LIKE a pc!" The zaurus user can say "my zaurus IS a PC".
There really isnt anything you cant do on the zaurus since its a full linux OS.

I would whole heartedly reccomend this product to EVERY linux user

Very nice PDA
Picked up my Zaurus last week.So far so good.I believe most of the 5600 have the PXA250 with the cache bug in it.The PXA255 fixes the issue and has been reported seen in some Zaurus 5600 but not all.The one I received is an older one based ont the information I found in the /proc/cpuinfo file on the device.B2 stepping which was available up until around March of 2003 - about the time these went out the door probably. While the speed is not intolerable, the idea that it can be faster makes you want it to scream along.There are patches that with good instructions available that can increase the speed should you take the time to research it. The main thing that I like with the Zaurus is the flexibility - Its linux - add what apps work for you, ditch the rest.Your not stuck with some inferior thingbecause its part of the system.

Basic Entry - not very feature rich
For the price I thought I'd get more than what amounts to a basic spread-sheet program that sync's with Quicken.

Yes, when I'm spending cash, or using a CC at the store, it's great that I can enter it into the PPC and it will import it into my Quicken.But it's not stand-alone.It won't really track your portfolios.And it does not display any charts or graphs.

For $10 it's worth it, for $30 I would have rather saved the money and just entered in my reciepts when I get home.

I would suggest looking at alternatives like MS Money and SPB Finance.

Perfect for my needs!
I've been a user of Quicken for 5 years now and I'm addicted to tracking my finances through it.When I bought my Pocket PC 4 months ago, I wanted to use it to track my finances also, but it was too expensive at the retail stores.When it finally dropped a few bucks, I decided to try it.I'm mainly wanted it to track the cash I'm spending because in my business I deal with a lot of cash transactions and it's too easy to spend the cash without tracking it and it's a total pain to sit down at a computer with a pocket full of reciepts.

Just like other software, I popped in the CD followed the instructions and everything loaded onto my Pocket PC with the greatest of ease.All of my transactions (the last 3 months), account information, memorized transactions, everything.I printed off the intructions and I'm off and running.Seriously easy to use, I'm just amazed.

Nice, But Longevity Not Good
I use this primarily with my ACT! database.Have never even come close to using the maximum memory even with hundreds of contacts and extensive notes.It has served me well for about 2 years; however now the standard plastic screen cover is hard to read through and the machine "resets" itself or locks up requiring a manual "reset" about once per week.For the purchase price I would have expected a much better life to it.

Annoying digitization problem
Although I was happy initially with my Tungsten T, I am no longer happy because it needs to be redigitized several times a day.I am a teacher and use it for a lot of data entry, calculation, and organizing and it is time consuming and aggravating to have to double-check all the time to ensure that the correct item is going in the correct field.I was dismayed to discover within these reviews that this is a glitch that is endemic to all model T's.I am even more upset to discover that it eventually just breaks!At the price I paid, I expected to get several years of use out of it.I am hesitant to replace a defective product with a product from the same company, especially if Palm is not backing up their product with a meaningful solution (as is reported elsewhere in these reviews).

Worked well for a while
Initially I loved my Tungsten T, but after 6 months, the touch screen began requiring repeated recalibration.This has become progressively worse, to the point that recalibrating or repeatedly soft rebooting does not help and the T has died.This all occurred after the warranty period, and the online knowledge base and phone support have been worse than useless.After reading customer feedback here, it appears that several other people have experienced the same problems with the T and the same frustration with Palm support.I'm now shopping for a (non-Palm) replacement.I would strongly discourage anyone from buying what appears to be a flawed product from annon-supportive company.

A real good PDA
This is a really good PDA . It only froze up onze in the year i've had it probaly because of this corructed game i downloaded
for it . I have used it to death , and no problems .
Here are the good things about it:

1.it plays MP3's

2.it has bluetooth

3.A realy nice screen

Terrible touchscreen
I bought this model (not at Amazon) and I can say that those devices are very, very useful. I use this model for college (read texts) and to listen MP3s. However, it just became practically unusable after almost 5 months of use (3 months warranty).

So, what happened? Something that I see over and over again on Palm PDAs: the screen fails to recognize where you are pointing the "pen" (called stylus, right?). At the beggining, it was misaligning more frequently. So, I was aligning the screen more and more on the third month, but nothing that I should call a hassle. Then, the worst happened: with more or less 100 days (right after the warranty expired), it started to get extremely worse, like I need to align 2 or 3 times a day. Well, after some days, even the align process wouldn't work anymore...

At least it's still "usable" to read texts and listen to MP3s, but anything that requires lots of input can't be done. Funny that I've seen the same problem on the internet, and a friend bought a Tungsten E and exactly the _same_ problem happened, and on the _same_ period of time. I don't need to say that Palm support was like a "robot" for me and for my friend, automated humans that only says what you already know... I know lots of people at the college, and I can say that I made lots and lots of people don't buy a Palm. I will alert everyone not for the problem, because problems happen (even if this problem seems to happen a lot), but a crappy support is unaceptable.

wow, this is more useful than i thought it could be
This is a huge jump for me from a visor(palm os), as long as you like windows os you should be really happy with this pda.it is fast, has plenty of storage for apps and the colors are beautiful.it has multimedia, music, video and jpgs.with windows xp, the device appears as a networked resource when synched, which is very neat.i find that i am able to read books on this device, because the graphics are so good, unlike my palm.i have used the bluetooth capability, and it was moderately difficult to configure on my network.it does seem to suck up power, but i have never experienced powere loss.i have had it for 6 months now, and have only had to reboot the thing once, and it was the result of some crappy shareware.

It's ok, too bad there is so little suport from Microsoft
It works quite well as far as Pocket PC goes. It's a good little unit. I've not have a major problems with the hardware. It's a shame that Microsoft offers so little in the way of support. Too bad. This is my second Pocket PC, and probably the last. Microsoft's online help is pretty much useless, and that's all there is. If you are interested in the basic calendar type of stuff, you will probably be happy. If you need anything beyond that, good luck. The new sub-notebook computers with Windows-XP are so much more capable, why suffer ? I got a new Fujitsu and am very happy with it. It's a shame that the company who wrote the o/s treats it like an unwanted orphan. It's got such a great unrealised potential. I really wish MS would really get behind it.

Nice, but only for 6 monthsThen you have to buy another
This is a very nice unit.The screen is clear the memory expandable, the price just right.THE MAJOR DRAWBACKS are that the computer burns out after 6-7 months leaving you high and dry with the company.The secondary battery fails even when you have the unit plugged into the charger erasing all of you files and system memory.

Very hard to beat for the price
I have worked with Windows CE/Pocket PCs from the very first models (loved the Philps Velo ;-)), and have always appreciated their functionality.I do quite a bit of research when upgrading to a new PDA/Pocket PC.And considering the price ($200 after a $100 rebate) the V36 is pretty much unbeatable.The screen equals the iPAQs I have used at work over the years, and the V36 is smaller/lighter (a big requirement for me since I carry mine in my pocket).It has a nice processor, generous memory and I agree with other reviews that the camera takes surprising good pictures (albeit you do need good light and the pictures are low res).The fact that the V36 has an SDIO slot (not just an SD slot) is a huge plus for me as well.I use my unit to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots daily and an SDIO slot is necessary to support any of the 802.11b cards on the market (I use a SanDisk ConnectPlus card that is both an 802.11b card and 256MB flash memory card in one - a perfect compliment for this device btw).For a total of about $315 ($200 for the V36 and about $115 for the Sandisk Wi-Fi + Flash memory card) I have a small light, powerful Pocket PC with lots of memory, wireless connectivity and a camera!(compare that price to some of the competing PDAs that have integrated Wi-Fi (and no camera) and you're looking at $500-$600) The V36 is probably the best deal on the market :-) At least it is for me.

Please BeWare and ForeWarned!
I purchased this product and within 2 months it starts to behave in a strange way, out of no where.It goes from working perfectly to shutting down without warning.I contacted Tech Support, with them providing a method of re-starting, but of course I lose all information data.It restarts but only for a few days, then shuts down and will not re-start.This continues for 5 months.I communicate again with Tech Support, they give instructions for sending unit in to be checked.They call me stating unit is not covered under warranty due to a cracked display, which was not the case at all when I very carefully packaged and shipped it.It was in "like new" condition, had never been dropped nor mishandled.The cost to repair was $270.00!!I refused to go with that option and will never buy another of their products.In my opinion their customer service and tech support is lousy and certainly not trustworthy.There are too many other good choices of products out there to have to worry about being "hung out to dry" with a worthless warranty.

Poor construction, overpriced, but takes great pictures
I have brought this V36 from Compusa and I have had to return twice within 3 months. This unit is overpriced for its features and capablities. If you are thinking of buying this product I would recommend buying eaither a HP Pocket PC or a Dell Pocket PC. Also if you are thinking about putting a Wi-Fi (SD) Card and using it to access the internet and e-mails I would extremly advise you not to buy this product.
But in saying this all the camera included in this PDA takes great pictures and even takes long video shoots.
So far Compusa has stopped selling the product and I have recently brought a Dell Axim X30 which works great. ... Read more

HP Ipaq 5555
I have owned the Ipaq 5555 for a year.My review is far from positive. The unit has glitzy features but many disappointments.Battery life is not long enough for practical professional use. Handwriting recognition is about 90% at best and usually less.The unit has a slippery exterior that should be kept in a case; a poor engineering design , unless they want one to drop it.
What is most disappointing is the one year warrantee support from HP.I developed synching problems. HP support put me through a variety of time consuming phone support resets et al.Finally they agreed (reluctantly) to accept the unit for analysis. We sent it in. The J2 connector on the main board was cracked.Despite a lack of any signs or history of external abuse, they claimed the unit must have been dropped and sustained significant impact.They are not planning to honor the warrantee.I am the only one who uses this unit. HP does not honor their warrantee.I would not recommend purchasing this unit.
Other limitations are common to most PDAs.Slow compared to PCs, laptops, tablets.Poor screen size for internet.
For the price this is not worth it.
On the positive side the security features were valuable to me as a physician to protect confidential patient information.Otherwise it had little special to offer over units costing a fraction of the price.
Wireless internet was of little value due to the slowness of connecting and unreliability of auto connecting.Within my own home I could walk downstairs to use the PC to access and get internet info more expediently. The only time it helped was on the road, and that was limited. Email access from the PDA is not happening for me.
Many programs have to be purchased for PDA use that would be built in to most laptops and other PCs. Bluetooth devices are too pricey to be a good value.
I think PDAs are great for storing contact info and making notes, but should not be pushed into the realm of truer computing.They should be easily held and capable of sustaining 4 foot falls.
Again, I would specifically avoid the HP products because they are not honoring their warrantee, using flimsy evidence to shift the blame off their poor engineering of a handheld onto the user. Get a far less expensive Palm for basic contact and calendar use, a laptop or tablet for on the road computing and bypass these expensive and impractical Ipaqs.

waste of time
Total and complete data failure (and will not restore even after a full backup) 6 X in the last four months. This is after warranty replacement of the unit (based upon the old "we don't know why it does that") -

Avoid this PPC until they make one that is suitable for everyday use.

Unreliable
This must be the most frustrating device it has ever been my misfortune to own! With some regularity, and with no apparent reason, it resets itself to factory settings. I spend more time restoring and reinstalling than I actually spend productively.

At least 5-6 times per day, I have to do a soft reset because the thing locks up. Half the time it won't connect or sync either via USB or wireless.

I've had the iPAQ for a year now, and am just getting ready to do a complete reinstall. Once again, it reset itself. Two weeks ago, same thing. This is the last time, however, there is a hammer in the iPAQ's future. I mean it.

Afterthought: who ever heard of a device that can't be turned off? What numbskull designed a computer that loses everything if it loses power? Duh.

To get absolute use out of this machine I would recommend the SanDisk 1 gig memory (inserts in topof 5555 easily .. about 300 bucks), Pocket map navigator (absolutely wonderful about 350 bucks) Sierra wireless aircard750 (so you can use it as a cell)and Microsoft voice recognition (works great) so you can select and play your tunes.This is a brilliantly designed machine..more usability just keeps popping out of it every day. One fair warning.. it's hell to learn to run correctly. The documentation is terrible but tech support has been patient during my dozen or so phone calls for help. I have dropped this machine and it still works so it is durable. The 5555 makes all other PDA's look like junk once you are on top of it. Forget the expense.. just buy it, fight it and make it work to do the things you want it to do. Oh, and download the software so you can watch movies on it too (another 50 bucks). You can put about 8 movies on the san disk. Don't waste money with the double expansion pack, get the single, it will still fit in your shirt pocket and do all the above.

Perfect gadget for enthusiasts
I had this PDA for almost two years now and it still works properly except that it's internal memory falls short compared to other PDAs. Most of it's people seems to complain it's battery usage especially when operating cameras but if you make your backlit screen minimal as possible, then the camera will last longer even with the flash. I do that all the time and usually gets me 50 shots with flash if used continuosly without quitting; quitting so would make results for your battery life different. MP3 works great but you'll need to format your mp3s to atrac3 using sony's software since all it playback is atrac3. I also recommand that you get at least 256mb of merory stick pro for this one; that way you can backup lots of data in case your pda screws up and also to store some video clips, games, works, etc. If you want to playback mp3s, buy the standard magicgate merory stick fot it; only those can playback atrac3s. This pda can access most of webpages too as long as it doesn't eat away too much of merory space. I hope this review helps some of those who wish to use it's built-in camera very efficiently because I know I did.

A small PC
It's very hard to rate this handheld because it's not really a PDA.I've owned it for 2 years and hardly use it.Everything has been pretty much said and fairly accurate.It's a great handheld for those who travel and want instant internet access on a great screen, without carrying a laptop.My previous PDA was a palm (which promptly died at the 1 year mark), and it was with me all the time because it was so portable.My low rating is really from my annoyance that it's too bulky and heavy (yes, it is like a brick) to be "worn" in that way.The best thing is definately the screen, it's very bright and everything that you tap on responds instantly.Big minuses include the lack of memory, terrible battery life (one picture with the flash is all I got before it drained), and the expensive sony peripherals.The stylus is situated in a horrible place that it slides out easily and I've lost one every few months (and I hardly use it).The camera lens cover slides open easily.There aren't any good form fitting covers for this thing other than ones that look like a pocket book. The camera and built in mic aren't bad.It has a nice set of utilities.It's great for someone on the road all the time and lives out of a briefcase or bag.

a piece of junk
Dont ever buy this product. It comes with a packet of junk softwares. Take for example audio player. It can only play files which has a frequency of 44.1KHz and data rate of 96kbps to 128kbps. However there are some awesome products out there, but since sony doesnt provide their API, these products dont work for nz90.
Battery life is terrible. Even when your battery is %80 percent charged, you cannot use flash to take a picture. I think with fully charged battery you can only take 5 ( yes it is 5) pictures. Then your battery is totally gone.
There are so many negatives for this products that I can write 5 paged on that!!!!
Exteremely disappointed user of nz90.
Luckily I saved so many friends of mine to do the same mistake!!!

A jack of all trades - master of none
It may be a great idea to have a PDA and camera combo, but this product is not it.It has the best screen I have seen (big and bright); excellent game selections; but is cumbersome due to the flip screen and ridiculous stylus storage.

The camera takes good photos, but the lag time from shutter release to taking a picture is very slow and you need a very steady hand for quality picures.The still and video camera use way too much power (in relation to a stand alone camera which may be able to take up to one or two hundred pictures on a battery charge vs about 15 - 20 for this one) The screen is just about invisible in sunlight making it very difficult to frame picures.

The Piscel Viewer for documents is not user friendly and you cannot edit any documents without additional software.As a PDA alone it is not bad, but many are better due to battery life and are more user friendly.

Just a bad choice.Battery life at this time is way behind the state of the art (5 hrs max just leaving it on).The power lasts about two hours playing even simple games (something like backgammon).You cannot even fill a MS on one battery charge and movies cannot be taken (or the flash used) at anything less than full power.The battery is rechargeable (and removable), but there is no external charger available.Batteries must be charged in the Clie.

The cradle connection is awkward and usually takes both hands and some jiggling to get it to seat on the cradle.The only way to tell it is seated properly is to turn it on and make sure the battery logo has a lighting bolt accross it indicating that the unit is charging and therefore is properly seated in the cradle.

I am now looking at a Pocket PC and digital camera (separate) to get better performance.Any one want a sightly used Clie NZ 90??

HUGE in every sense !
Well, let's start by the basics. This machine is HUGE by any means if you compare it to any other PDA. It's like, well, the Darth Vader of all the Palm Powered devices. It's black, it's menacing, it's all-powerful. You can stun an attacker with it if you whirl it over your head and hit him (it includes a convenient hand strap for that purpose).

Jokes aside, it is well built (i used to have a Clie NR70V and it was very fragile), the hinges and swivels are tight, it won't open inside your backpack and get all scratched inside.

It is also a nice PDA, with all the useful stuff that any common handheld has. (Memo, Agenda, Address, To Do, Whatever). But it excels on the add-ons. That's the best part.

The digital camera is awesome (autofocus/manual focus, flash, 2.0 MP) and it can store hundreds of pictures. There are many options and settings to play with.

It also has audio recorder software. The sound is crisp, clear, and you can record many, many, many hours of speech, enviromental audio or anything.

As any other Clie, it has its own mp3 player. There's no need to buy the special SONY smartmedia card to use it: a Lexmark alternative will do the trick.

Of course, if you combine audio + pictures, you'll get a video camera. It works as one. Not great quality, it might be compared with having a webcam with you all the time.

What else ? Integrated keyboard, speaker, remote control, a couple of headphones, infrared port.

I can even speak about Bluetooth. I don't have any bluetooth gear in my house, but i'm leaving the wake-up option enabled and see if i find any BT devices in my office. Besides the blinking blue led looks cool :).

It has many improvementes since the last Clie versions. The memory stick has changed its place, so it doesn't flip out every time you put it in your pocket. The craddle is now foldable and you can take it everywhere to charge and/or connect your clie. You can even attach it to the PDA and carry it around.

Even when it is bulky, it is very well built and with a nice eequilibrium... you can hold it in your hand and it won't fall easily. That happened with the NR70V: the screen was heavier than the body, so it fell backwards always.

The keyboard is a lot better and easier to use by now. Also the back button has been moved a little and it's easier to use than before.

The camera doesn't rotate anymore... but i didn't miss the feature, since you can still use it in the open or closed form, to take pictures of yourself or others.

I would complain only about few things:

- The pen is thin ! It looks thinner compared to the huge agenda. And it has a very weird to attach to the PDA.
- The picture browsing is waaaay slow. I'll better find a better program to handle the pictures.
- I can't recall anything else, but i'm sure that there were some things that bothered me. Well, let's say it's 4 and a half stars. Oh, the price !Wait a little until it drops. But even now it's worth every cent. For a journalist is the perfect tool. And for a physician (who i am) too.
- And, it might seem crazy, but i find this size more comfortable for me than before. I don't think of it as a PDA, instead i think of it as a pocket sized notebook. ... Read more

sounds like good features but lots of problems
I bought this product 2 years back. But frankly speaking I haven't used all of its features. within a few days of buying the battery was losing power for no reason at all and the customer support replaced a new battery. But later the unit started resetting on its own. during this process none of the other buttons are functional and it is a forced reset losing all the information. Now since i am out of warranty i am expected to get it repaired for a fee. we will end up spending more than its original price for the maintenance. i never even had the chance to use all of its features till now because of all the reasons. i don't think its worth spending more on the unit.

iPAQ 5455 Review - cool features but poor battery life
The iPAQ 5455 seemlessly integrates with MS Outlook on one computer but has issues with syncing up to a second PC.User selection for data overwrite is limited (handheld overwrite PC or PC overwrite handheld data).Overall features are really neat, some stuff included is kinda useless for the average electronics gizmo but the battery life is horrible.If you're planning to go out of town for a couple of days, you'll need a charger (get 2 - one for the rental car and one for the hotel room).Extended life battery is recommended as is an extended service plan if one is offered to you at time of purchase.I had to have mine sent back and 2 other people in my office also had to during their first few weeks of use.The convenience offered by the available features outweighs the annoyances of losing data due to the battery dying.

Good Value/Powerful Pocket PC
These guys who are palm lovers just have a hard time switching to the Pocket PC!I am a switcher.The transition was tough at first back a couple of years ago.The Palm OS is surely faster and more user friendly but has much less to offer.This IPAQ is a powerful one and the screen quality, handwritting recognition and wifi options are unmatched by any Palm device.I have not found much use yet for the Bluetooth and the security features are good but I don't know that I need them.Still, what a great tool for word processing, spreadsheets, web surfing and more.Lighten up Palm boy!

Big problems for the $$ - otherwise it could be great.
I purchased the iPaq 5455 one year ago, directly from HP when it first hit the market, paying $649 plus $200 for a 3 year top of the line warranty. I have had several problems with the unit. Starting with the display on the unit going out only after a month or two of receiving it. The next problem was with the battery loosing its charge. Most recently, I have been having the recurring problem of the unit locking up not powering on. And like others, I have never been able to sync my info wirelessly.

I have placed several calls to tech support. I have troubleshooted the unit while on the phone with them and even sent the unit in for repair a month ago, in which I did not get a replacement unit, although my extended warranty states that I should. I received the unit back from repair and the documentation stated that no parts were replaced. Knowing that I definitely had a problem with the unit, I called tech support to see what was repaired. I was told a big lie that the battery was changed and the ENC part was replaced. Looking at my unit now, I see that it is the same battery that I had when I sent it in for repair.

Thinking that all was fixed with my unit, I downloaded all of my information. The next day I experienced the same problem with the unit not powering on with the power button. I placed another call to tech support in which the tech and myself troubleshooted the unit. The tech told me to hard boot my unit which erased all of my data. I was told not to install the one 3rd party software that I had installed to monitor the situation. I once again reinstalled my information without the 3rd party software. Again, my unit would not power on. Again, I called tech support and angrily described my situation.

Finally, the tech tells me that I will be sent a REFURBISHED unit. I received the refurbished unit two days ago and encountered the same problem once I loaded all of my data on to it. HP tech support has you to hard reset the unit to erase all data, which appears to make the unit work properly, but once the data is loaded, the problems begin. Today I called tech support and told them I am returning the refurbished replacement unit and keeping my original to see what their customer care department does to satisfy me.

I purchased the unit because I felt it would be an asset to my busy professional life, but it has been nothing but a hassle. I have sent several email complaints to HP customer support and finally to the CEO Carly Fiorina. I got a reply email from her address stating that someone would be in contact with me.

Each call and every email, I have gotten the same script of "we apologize for your inconvenience". The tech support department located in India is very unhelpful and they speak to you as if you were an idiot.

The unit has some slick features, but right now I am very dissatisfied and frustrated.

Erratic behaviour solved
My palm T2 experienced erratic behaviour after 6 months of operation. This kind of "bug" is also described by other persons in the T2 amazon reviews. The displacement bar moved without control and in the main window, the focus jumped from one application to another. Well, I did the soft reset and finally the hard reset, nothing happened. The incredible thing was that the problem was solved taking out the window plastic protector! I do not know why, but now my palm works fine. So, do not throw away you palm ! just change the protector and see what happen.

Tungsten T2, simply disappointing
My Tungsten T2, which I purchased new, revealed its defects only following 4 months of active usage. A soft and hard reset, and a call to Palm support did nothing to resolve the problem. Anyways, here it goes: The unit incessantly moves, without prompting, between screens. For example, it'll move to Brown, Joe while I'm still looking at the details of Alfa, Romeo. I've resorted to using the find feature to access telephone numbers, which I'll jot down quickly enough because tapping for details simply repeat jumping between screens and contacts. This erratic behavior is not unique to the Address book application. It's the same in datebook, photos, etc. I've only used about 7mb of my 29.7M, so it can't be because of memory.
Palm's 90 days warranty, which I find suspicious, meant I was already outside warranty before I realized the defects. This will definitely be my last Palm PDA.

Great product w/ great bonus uses!
I absolubtely love my Tungsten T2. I've had no problems and, unlike a reviewer below, I've never had a 'fatal error' or had to do a hard restart and lose any data. I'v also never run out of batteries or had any other sort annoyance. This is just an all around great palm, and makes life a heck of a lot more organized. Two great uses: 1. I cook a lot and when I find a recipe I want to ty online, I just immediately type in the ingredients onto my desktop software's to do list, do a hotsync, and go to the grocery store w/ everything on a neat checklist. 2. I also travel a lot. When I am preparing for a trip, I can search for restaurant reviews, store locations, museum exhibit details, and then just copy them and paste them onto my memo pad on my desktop software, hotsync, and then I have full articles and reviews at my fingertips. Those are some awesome bonuses to an already highly useful little device.

Nice concept-lousy execution
When it works it's marvelous.Unfortunately it is a huge source of frustration.The big problem is in the "hot-sync" function. I have installed the software on four seperate computers, with three different operating systems.They all react the same way: within a short time when a "hot sync" is performed you get a "Fatal Alert" error on the Palm.Sometime a reset will clear it sometimes it won't.Sometimes you have to do a hard reset and lose your data.Their customer support is off-shore and the language problem is overwhelming. One-half hour on the phone just to get a Service Request number.When it came back it was exactly the same.The software has to be reinstalled regularly on the PC to keep it working right.I have reinstalled the PC software over a DOZEN times on four different computers just to make sure my data is safe and functionable.The software is MISERABLE!!Get a Sony.

Improvement on a great theme
I am a former owner of the original T|T.After a little over a year of T|T use, the power button became much less responsive.After several calls to PalmOne's customer service and speaking to several nice Indian folks (Note: PalmOne customer service is obviously outsourced overseas), I was told that it would be $125 to have the unit repaired.This was too much to invest in old hardware. I enjoyed the small form factor of that device so much, I decided to buy a T2 (depite PalmOne's abysmal customer service).

The appeal of the screen has been mentioned several times.I would agree tremendously!I thought the original screen was pretty good.However, the 320x320 display on this unit makes the original T|T look like someone put window tint on it.I also enjoyed the extra internal memory.The subtle changes with the Palm OS were nice too: like hitting the 5 way button to the right when in your address book to look a name up and the color themes.

One aspect that I just could not bring myselft to do was to adopt Graffiti 2.I have used the original Graffiti for so long that using anything else is heresy.For those that are like me, simply grab your old handheld with Graffiti 1 and get a file manager program.Search the ROM for the following two files: Graffiti Library.prc, and Graffiti Library_enUS.prc.Now beam them to your new handheld.Do a Soft Reset on your new handheld and PRESTO, you now have Graffiti 1 again.

If I had any advice, it would be to buy PalmOne products with a credit card that doubles the manufacture's warranty because their customer service is terrible and they will deny warranty service if your handheld is 1yr and 1day old. ... Read more

Excellent PDA
I don't know why this pda has such a bad review, I recently purchased one and its been great! I haven't had one problem with it. And for the people that are complaining about the record button, it can be disabled!

E 740 problems
This is a a great PDA execpt for one thing. It is has NO built-in memory to save stored data. The E 750 took care of this problem and Toshiba essentially stifed the owner of the orignal -including my letter to them which was written before one year warrantee. They never even answered my letter.

No Upgrade
I was pleased with its performance until I realized that Toshiba doesn't offer the upgrade to Pocket PC 2003.Seems like just a ploy for me to sell it and buy the 755, which is the same machine.Needless to say I'm not happy with Toshiba's support of this product.

So-so, but mine still works!
I bought this shortly after the recall (November 2002).It's been over a year and a half, and I still use mine daily!I've only had the 1% battery problem once because I usually sit mine to recharge overnight.Is it a hassle?Not if I need to update information on it daily (e-mails, appointments, etc).

All in all, it's been frustrating to see poor reviews and then see Toshiba not support the e740 any more.However, with proper management, you can get a WiFi enabled PDA with SD/CF slots for cheap and be pretty satisfied with yourself!

Get it if you can find it for a good price.
I brought the E740 1 month ago for a very good price. If you are looking for a wi-fi enabled PDA, but don't want to spend too much on it, take a look at the E740. I read most of the reviews on Amazon and other opinions site, most people have negative opinions on the E740. Their opinions are understandable, since they got it for a very high price, and the performance does not match its price tag. After I using it for over a month, here are some of the pros and cons in my opinion on the E740.

Pros:
Wi-Fi!!! You can't find a PDA with integrated Wi-Fi in this price range.

CF(compatible with both type I/II) and SD slot. It really offers you a lot of upgrade options with both the CF and SD slot. I personally use a 512 SD card and leave the CF slot for a 56K cf modem.

User replaceable battery

Cons:
Windows Mobile 2002, and Toshiba does not offer upgrade to the WM2003. THis is a big deal, since Microsoft change the database for WM2003, which means new programs will not be compatible with WM2002. Also, Windows 2003 is written to take advantage of the XScale processor in the E740, which supposingly will boost up system performance and increase battery life.

It crashes, but in my opinion is is acceptable. It doens't crash all the time, but occasionally.

THis is pretty much it. In term of battery life, I think most other Windows based PDA offer identical battery life. (Well, except some big PDAs like Dell X5, it offer better life, but it's very bulky) I think the PDA deserve anywhere from 50%-60%, since it does offer a lot of features, and at a relatively low price. Doesn't work
The program doesn't work, and neither does the support telephone number.

Outstanding Support
After purchasing the software I encountered installation problems. I phone tech support and immediately got Howard who was very helpful and patient as I am not a computer person. Howard made installing the software and getting to work simple. Simple enough to where I can assist my co-workers in installing and using intellisync should the same situation present itself. Intellisync tech support was OUTSTANDING!

Painful to make it work... When it does, its fine.
I bought this program to sync my lotus note application.

The installation is actually very simple... if you know what you are doing.Problem is, the instructions that come with the program are horrible. Thus, you'll probably have to call support at some point because even the web site doesn't offer better information on installing the application and configuring it with your desktop application.

I was on hold for 45 minutes with support.They were friendly and helpful when they finally got on the phone.I did have to make a follow up call the next day.This time, I was only on hold for about 5 minutes.

The sad thing is that Puma Tech could and should invest the minimal resources it requires to put together a good instruction manual.

No Help
This works fine with Palm OS but I bought it to get email attachments with Pocket PC.The only way it seems to work is to run a complete sync everytime, very slow and tedious, and that just duplicates the same message from ActiveSync. Here's the zero rating:The CD you buy leads you to an online update, I think the entire program gets downloaded, then you install that and you get a message that "uninstall files are missing, you might not be able to uninstall" it.No way to stop the installation at that point.I tried uninstalling Intellisync and it cannot be done. I emailed support and so far the only response was an acknowledgement.I tried XP Restore to before I installed it and it's still there but now asking me to purchase a licensed version, mine was just before the update download.Reinstalling over the original or update made matters worse.I tried to get the uninstall files that are aparently missing.Now the core files are missing and it cannot be reinstalled or uninstalled.Can't wait for the rebates.

Excellent Product
This is the swiss army knife of synchonization softwares. It supports just about every PIM you could ask for. Most importantly, it's fast. One of the best PDAs in the market
I've been using my Sony Clie NX80V since a year, and is still impressive the performance of this palm... the swivel screen allows you to use this like a normal PDA or like a laptop, an even better with its small keyboard, convenient for thumb fingers or small hands. I also found amazing the dual (CF and MemoryStick) card reader, and if you buy the WiFi CF card for Clie, you can do everything with this handheld. Besides, it has a lot of convenient software, like the Picsel viewer and NetFront browser. The only software I added is DocumentsToGo, and I can edit my .doc and .xls files (even simple PowerPoint presentations), and still view it in my PC when I plug my Clie to it. The screen is huge, brillant with its wonderful shrinkable Graffiti area, that allows you to add direct access to many applications you use often. Finally the camera is really great (I haven't seen any PDA with a 1.3M pixels built-in camera... and fast), and Sony knows how to make it look beautiful, including the cradle, and the MP3 player sound great, and much better with the hand controller.

Say Goodbye To Sony's US and European PDA Market
I love my Sony Clie, PEG NX80V.I bought it less than a year ago, and the resolution, screensize and vivid display still astound my associates.The performance is quick for PDAs made in 2003, and the product is still superior in technology when compared to most of todays sales.I have to complain that Sony stopped offering online updates (drivers, patches, etc) for this product less than 7 months after releasing it. Now, after current stocks run out, Sony will retreat to ASIA, where they are selling the latest PDA, it's really going to blow you away.
Compare Sony to Palm, and Sony comes in about equal. I recommend buying this product new or used, it has never let me down.

It's All About Accessories - The Good and the Bad
In today's world of electronic gadgets, there are two things that really are frustrating:1) Once you buy an electronic gadget - it often is obsolete the next day; 2) You often need to get lots of accessories to get the most use of your gadget.On top of that, when you are ready to buy a replacement gadget to replace the one you want - all of the accessories you bought are suddenly no good. Thus, the dilemma I faced when my old Palm IIIc finally showed signs it was nearing the end of its life was what to buy.I had used my IIIc for 3 1/2 years. During this time, I had such accessories as a Leather Case,A Keyboard, and a Travel Charger.Now as I was viewing what Palm (today) had to offer, I discovered that those nice accessories I owned were suddenly no good because none of the new models that Palm offered were compatible with them. Not a happy camper. As I mention above, this isn't a Palm-specific problem, but a problem with consumer electronics - and something companies in the consumer electronics industry have completely taken advantage of the consumers.

Enter Sony's Clie PEG-NX80V - this is known as Sony's Personal Electronics Organizer. In addition to being a very impressive unit, it did seem to solve some of my immediate problems around accessories, but of-course introduced a new set of accessory problems I did not imagine.

First up the unit itself. It is a beautiful unit that will immediately make a great first impression.It is silver and basically looks like a mini tablet computer. For starters, the unit folds down into its own hard case - so I didn't need to buy any extra cases because this protected the screen (I keep mine in a Day Planner binder, but you still may want a leather cover to prevent case scratches).When you open the unit, you will see a screen and a keyboard - now it looks like a mini laptop. The Keyboard solved my dilemma of having to buy a keyboard (I use mine to enter sales data and really depend on a keyboard - this one works great). Now the cool feature is you can swivel the screen around and fold it back down on top of the keyboard into the traditional PDA view - now its just like a regular PDA. The PEG-NX80V package also comes with a beautiful looking USB cradle in which the back of the cradle is translucent. In addition, the AC Charger unplugs from the cradle and can be plugged into an plug adapter that connects to the unit - now you have your travel charger.Yes, the plug adapter is included.That solved my travel adapter problem (I take it on the road a lot).The unit also has a slot for expanding memory with a Sony Memory Stick or Compact Flash Card as well as connecting a wireless lan card.

There are some other impressive features with this unit. First up the stuff you get out of the box.The unit comes loaded with Palm OS 5.Sony also packages their own version of the Launcher Program - which looks very attractive.The Sony Launcher does get some getting used to, but I like it because it looks good.If you can't get used to it, you can switch to the traditional Palm OS launcher.There is a jog dial on the unit for making scrolling lists very easy. To write, the unit comes with Palm's Graffiti 2, but there is something better - the Decuma Input Handwriting Recognition Software.Decuma Input has a utility where you enter your handwriting and then the unit will recognize your writing.I found the change from standard Graffiti to Graffiti 2 a bit annoying.But Decuma Input is terrific and once you get used to it, you won't go back.The unit will allow you to switch between Decuma Input and Graffiti.The unit comes with an application that will turn your PDA into a Universal Remote Control to use with such devices as a TV, DVD, VCR, etc.Finally the unit comes with a built in voice memo recorder for recording quick voice memos, storing them in the unit and playing them back.Only thing disappointing is a very cheap styled stylus.

As for this being a Personal Electronics Organizer, it has some terrific features - but also some warnings. For starters it has a Built in 1.3 Megapixel Camera with a flash - its only 1.3 Megapixels, so it won't replace your digital camera.It's a nice feature and you can store pictures and do some cool things like put photos in your address book.Be warned - snapping a picture will consume a lot of power from your battery (especially with the flash) - more than you expect.Be also warned, you MUST have a Memory Stick to export/import pictures with your PC and Clie - thus another accessory. There also is a built in MP3 Player (the unit does come with headphones) and a Movie Camera as well.Using the MP3 unit and Movie Camera does require the Use of a Memory Stick - thus this becomes another "required" accessory.The Data Backup Program does also require the Memory Stick.From looking at the specs, it isn't intuitive you need the Memory Stick for these features.

While this is a great unit and it did solve my accessory problems, it created a whole new set of others (namely with the Memory Stick).It is also worth noting to get the Wireless LAN for internet access is a costly accessory as well.However the unit is still very impressive looking and works terrific.Price out what accessories you want and need - then shop carefully.Your bet is to try to get it on sale or for a rebate though to get the most for your money.

After over a year of daily use...
This is my third PDA, the priors were Palm IIIvx, Sony Clie 610C. I really use my PDA all day, so I could justify paying a bit more for a nicer PDA.I have friends with CE based machines and they really don't use them nearly as much as I use mine.

Pros:
Too many to mention all of them, but the all add up to great usability.I really used a lot of the features that I thought were just bells and whistles.The flip display is great because you don't need a case unless you are trying to keep the unit pretty.The camera was a life-saver for shooting white boards before they get erased and showing tech support problems that were hard to describe over the phone/email without a picture.The voice memo took excellent notes even at conference meetings (much better than my friend's Palm Tungsten 2).Additional apps such as a mileage log (Trip) have been so important to me that I replaced the hard-wired button for notes with it. The Silk Launcher has a mode that adds more app buttons to the graffiti area.

Battery life is very good. I would often go for 3 or 4 days between charges, regardless of the display brightness.If I reduced the brightness, I could go for a week of light use between charges.

Cons:
A tad big.Too heavy to tote around for MP3s at the gym.
After well over a year of heavy use, the Power/Hold slider button died, making the unit unusable (Fortunately, I sync'd up just a few hours before it broke!).

Decision Time:
Sony want's $150 to fix it.For double that, I can get a new one, and since no other PDA surpasses the UX80V, I think I will do that.I have been very rough on my Clie, but it really is a workhorse for me.

Great PDA for medschool students
Great PDA, I'm a medschool student and it helps a lot in the hospital and in the classrooms. A lot of free medical software to download from the web. The camera it's awesome, it has a slow shutter function that allows you to take pictures even in dark rooms; the resolution (1.3MP) it's good and I can take pictures of patients, X ray films, CT scans and more with nice quality.
The battery lasts for at least 5 hours of continuous work, and the integrated keyboard helps a lot when you're tired of using the stylus. The internal memory it's quite short, but I bought a 256 MB Lexar MS (not too expensive) and don't have any problem.
I do recomend this PDA for medschool students because it's a helpful tool in the hospital (specially the camera). The free software I found on the web includes drug guides, medical calculators, diagnostic and tratment tools, medical news software, etc, etc, etc. ... Read more

Excelent option for palm lovers
I came from using TRGpro & Handera 330. Difficult to find a new PalmOS machine with the high usability of extinguished models.
I bought this unit recently, and love it. The screen is sharp (screen protector is a must before any use) and colourful. The dual card option (memory stick & CF) is scarse in PalmOS PDAs. I am a pediatrician an use both 1GB CF & 512MB MSPro cards.If you need to store a lot of data for reference or database needs, then NX-73V or NX-80V is for you. The difference: 5MB more (real) RAM and 1.3MP camera for NX80V. But NX73V is comparable in use and has a beautiful black case.
JackFlash is a must to take use of 15MB aditional FlashROM memory available inside the NX73V, so you take many files off RAM (to cards or FlashROM) to make space available.
Hope Palm & others will offer dual card capability in the future for PalmOS, but it would be unlikely.

I like it!
I gotta say, I bought this thing thinking that I would probably just use it to store numbers and play MP3's.I've owned the old Palm Pilot Original, the Palm V, and now this Clie.I must say that the Clie simply blows everything else out of the water.It's like a mini computer! I can view pictures, PDF's, XLS, DOC with the bundled software. The screen resolution is really awesome.

I've found myself taking it wherever I'm going (which is the point of a PDA!!!). This never happened before with my older PDA's because they were simply calendars and phonebooks... I enjoy having the camera on me at random times.Taking a little picture of my favorite dish at a restaurant or capturing a great picture of my dog at the park.Those are times you always wished you had brought your digicam but never had it on you!

The DECUMA input sucks... you need to write really neatly and separate e a c hl e t t e rso that it knows what you're talking about.I much prefer Graffiti 2.Graffiti 2 is soooo much cooler than Graffiti 1 that I have been using previously.BUT best of all, this thing has a QWERTY keyboard. I cannot stress how much nicer it is to use the QWERTY.I haven't used the stylus much at all. Most of my inputs are now a process of using my fingertip and then using the keyboard.It REALLY is much faster.

I also enjoy the fact that the thing doesn't have to boot up to get to the digicam or the voice recorder. One click of either button and the unit automatically snaps to the application you are requesting.I am enjoying taking oral notes with the voice record feature when I'm on the go and don't have time to type.

Overall, I'd suggest that you also check out the NX80 due to the better camera.I think I'll buy an NX80 eventually, but right now, for the price, the 73V does exactly what I need without costing TOO much.

Glad I Upgraded
Previous happy owner of a Clie NR60 but had to upgrade when I dropped it and broke the screen.The NX73 has everything I liked about my previous machine and in addition is Faster, has better screen resolution, and the Upgraded Palm OS.The Decuma handwriting recognition is great.The more I use it the more I like the ablity to take notes in my writing.The camara is lame and not a reason to buy this machine.The option for using CF cards is great plus in flexibility and cost.If you like to type your notes into your PDA, then this machine is not for you.The touch of the keyboard gives barely enough feedback.The Tungsten C has much better keyboard feel if you feel this is important.Bottom Line, if you like the big screen of the CLIE clamshell models (which to me makes a big difference), this is definitely the machine to buy.

NX73v is a slight upgrade from the previous nx series
The only thing that made me upgrade to this nx73v from my nx60 was the Decuma handwriting input.It is by far the best input software and I have been a graffiti user for 5 years.I thought I was fast on graffiti, but with decuma, I can write more naturally and much more quickly.Sony does it again. ... Good not Great
I think it's pointless to go on and on when writing a review so I'm gonna keep this short:
The Sony clie peg-nx70v is one wonderful piece of equipment.
I found that I extremely liked some of it's features like the compact design with the rotating screen, the thumb keyboard, the icon lay out, the camera/video recorder, and the voice recorder.
However, I rate it only good not great because of the annoying weight, how prone it is to being damaged, it's batery which tends to die rather quickly, and it's price.

Overall, I recomend the Sony clie peg-nx70v to most anybody!

me and my Clie
This thing has more buttons & bells than I'll ever use!I'm glad I bought a book "How to use Your Clie".The included paperwork doesn't begin to explain everything you can do.Screen display is sharp & clear.I like using Graffiti to enter data rather than the keyboard. (You have three entry methods to choose from.)

Great product
Unbelievable technology!!!Great sony software to improve the useability and increase the features available.Incredible leadership by Sony, very innovative.I purchased mine for $299 a display model at a local retailer, I had a 32 mb memory stick from a video camera I had,I have only had the CLIE for a few days but its wonderful,I have not tried to sync it yet, for mac you need the program the Missing Sync for 30$ you can download it I haven't yet, but I have read good reviews and it seems like a solid program.

No complaints, it seems that something like this should costat least$1500.The software that Sony provides for it is excellent Bravo Sony!!!I purchased the Zire 71 which is also an excellent product at a great price around $249, but if you can get the Sony for anywhere close to $369 or more its still a great deal.

Great Product
I have had one of these since they came out. I havent had any problems with it except a stuck pixle. I purchased mine from a retail store with the warrenty so i had it replaced.

Superb!!!
Sony hit a home run with this model of the PDA. This is my 8th PDA, and it's far and away the best. The display is very readable. The colors are great and really pop!! The machine is very customizable. The operating system is an improvement over the past offerings. I realize that Palm produced the basic OS, but Sony has added a lot of value for buyers of this most excellent machine. It's fast and accurate. YOU ROCK SONY!!!!!

The only drawback is that it doesn't use the Memory Stick Pro specification. But that's just a matter of a difference in specification maturity.

It can still use the 128 MB and 256 MB (128 MB x 2). It is enough storage for most folks.

Not the best handheld, but it is still my choice.
The TG50 is not the best Clie, but it is my top choice. I bought it when it first came out, and I broke the motherboard by having it in my bag. I loved it so much I ordered another one on ebay for $110.

TG 50
I got my tg50 from ebay, you all should.It retails for about $300, I got a used one(that is great) for $97, less than I payed for my clie sj20 (b and w screen)
1- keyboard, gotta have it cause i hate graphiti
yah it takes a little getting used to but i like it (but it obviously doesn't compare to the one on the ux50)
2- Truely awesome crisp colorful screen
3-well thought out and overall fantastic design
4-very thin (1/2 inch thick)

i previously had a sony sj20, which has a palm OS (no OS 5), so I am used to a palm pda, but that being this pda is extremely easy to use, I never looked at the manual, but figured out all the features anyway.
Neccessary accessories include
-a memory stick (64mb if just using for apps, 256 if you want to store a few songs(get these on ebay too, for about half price))
-a case, if you are getting a case that stays on it all the time(custom fit) which I recommend get the Bellagio one, its nice and it allows the pda to hotsync in a cradle while still in the case

Down and Out After One Year
What a nightmare. I had bought my Clie less than a year ago when it refused to stay on. After several tries to do a "hard boot" on it where I had to constantly restore y data from my back up I called what Sony loosely refers to as Customer Support.... What a misnomer. It took me approximately10 days just to get a person on the phone that understood the problems with my Clie and agree to let me send it in for warranty repair. I found the Service Tech's rude and very hard to understand. I needed to repeat what the problem was with the unit several times and was told it wasn't under warranty. I had to prove to them the date of purchase...not a problem.

Once they got their hands on it they decided that it had physical damage that caused the problem. I had had an area on the screen that had faded for at least 1-2 months before the problems began on a unit I used several times a day. After 10 days they phoned me back to say it was physical damage and they needed $138.00 to cover the repair and shipment of my unit. After I had paid the ransom for the return of my Clie to me it took another 15-20 days of constant phone calls to get status of the repair. Once they stated it would be sent the next day and to call for a tracking number. Once that they were waiting for parts, then that it was in for exchange due to the fact they were unable to keep it booted. This was my initial problem. Finally have someone call back from Sony San Diego stating that they no longer made my model and want to send me a sub-standard unit to replace it. If I want them to replace mine with a like unit that had the equipment on it I once hadI will have to give them another $60.00. They have little respect for their customers and have no qualms in using the old it was physical damage to make up for a poor warranty service. To this day I still have nothing resolved. I would give anything to have bought from any other company than Sony.

Sony Clie TG50 and my eMac
I bought my Clie TG50 a week ago as the sales person said "it runs OS 5.0 so it will work with your eMac", I learned sales clerks know as much as I do about technology! I purchased the refurbished Clie and bought it home 200 miles to learn it isn't compatible at all with my eMac. After phone calls and frustration, I learned to download "Missing sync" off the internet ($40), go to apple.com, download iSync and iSync conduit for PDA. Now I was finally having some success. Now that I have my eMac talking the same language as my Clie TG 50, I am really digging it.I love the date book, the memo's, the fact with a memory stick I can listen to music. I have downloaded a freeware game or two.My old paper date book has been retired, now I pack around a lite little box that has my info and some entertainment to boot. And my purse weighs a lot less!!In a way, if that clerk hadn't sold me this Clie', I wouldn't have learned so much about it and my eMac.

Very good value for your money
I have used the TG-50 for about 9 months now and it has performed well.In addition to the basic PDA functions, I like the one button activated voice recorder.I also use it to play MP3s and music videos and it works well.

I use Outlook on my PC when I hot sync, and have not had a problem.The software that comes with the TG-50 lets you sync with Outlook without much hassle.

The only irritaion that I have had is, sometimes it will give an error and the only option left is a hard reset.However, when it comes back up the most recent data is still there (I use a memory stick). Use the TG-50 with a memory stick and back-up regularly.Data back-up is essential no matter what technology you use.

Bottom line is...It really is a cool little gadget, and provides great value for your money. ... Read more

Pharos does it again!
This is my third Pharos GPS unit and easily the best.Coupled with my HP tablet and MS Streets and Trips 2004, the unit was up and running less than 5 minutes after ripping the plastic off the box!Yeah, that includes reading the Quick Start Manual.

I wish the software had voice prompts like the Ostia software installed on my PPC, but for speed, accuracy, convenience and price, this is a toy every real man should have!Actually, my wife is my navigator . . . behind every good man . . .

Very quirky item
I just needed an easy way to get pictures off my camera onto my computer. After emails to and from tech support we got this product to work. And for what I need it for it works fine. I have even used it to upload some ringtones to my phone which worked fine as well. There is some tweeking that needs to be done from time to time. (Re-booting usually does the trick.) I paid way too much for mine, but for the price here it is probably a decent value.Haven't tried to do much more with it but may try someday. If you want something simple, or get frustrated easily, find something else.

AVOID this product
I am computer savvy, and this item just does not work.It does not connect and hangs up my new computer, slowing it down significantly.I tried it with another computer, with the same results.Tech Support was very poor.There are other manufacturers who sell similiar products. Go with them instead, and save yourself the frustration and money.

Still some problems with the product
Basically it has the same functionality as the desktop product, but there are several limitations when the software was scaled down for the PDA. It doesn't work with e-mail programs and it is not possible to take some data to the clipboard without entering into the edit mode. You can not dial a number from a Tungsten T linked to a bluetooth enabled telephone. It seems that Interact were in a hurry to start selling a product for the Palm platform. I hope they release new versions of this product in the near future.

ACT!
I love this product for contact management.I am a Realtor and have tried several other systems designed for Real Estate.Now that I am becoming more "computer literate" I find that I can make adaptations to this program to customize it for my business.I have just purchased a Palm M515 and am considering purchasing ACT! for the palm to further increase my efficiency.My life prior to this has been phone numbers and notes on little pieces of paper never to be found when I need them.Having the program on the palm increases the chance that these notes will be "at hand" when I need them, and I can upload them to the PC version each night.Also I can work from the PC and download the info to ACT! for my palm.What a great
