Not for everyone
This monitor could be an excellent choice for the casual computer user in an office, but it is not the right choice if you work with graphics, or if you're particular about image quality.

On the plus side, this monitor is inexpensive, and the image is razor-sharp, edge-to-edge, and has good brightness.

On the minus side, the entire screen image size changes by as much as several millimeters when the screen brightness changes (like when opening or closing an application window), which will drive you nuts if you open and close windows frequently. This is probably due to insufficient power supply regulation. Also, the screen geometry on mine was not good, with the top-left part of the screen curving down, etc.There is also a slight, but noticeable, color variation across the screen horizontally.If you were viewing a web page with a white background, the left side of the screen would look slightly bluish, while the right side would look slightly yellowish.

I returned this monitor and purchased the NEC FE 750, which is a much better monitor in my opinion. My only (minor) complaint is that there is still a slight color variation across the screen; but it is barely perceptible, and not enough to make me return this monitor.All of the other problems associated with the FE 700 are not present in the 750. ... Blurry Screen
I've got about 30 of them last year and after a year all of them are going blurry.Thankfully NEC has a good warranty program but it's a pain sending in and getting it replaced.

Good, reliable monitor with easy to use contols
This is a very good monitor at a very reasonble price.This monitor family has been a mainstay for NEC for several years and it has developed into a good reliable monitor from slightly shakier beginings.It is not the best monitor for the price, but it is a very safe buy.The controls are fairly novice friendly and you won't have to worry about the quality of the product - NEC is first rate.Most people will be happiest setting the monitor to 1,024 x 768 were the 87Hz refresh rate will be very easy on the eyes.The .27 dot pitch is acceptable but I am disapointed NEC hasn't moved a better tube into this price range.

I would suggest looking at two other good canidates that usually are about the same price as this NEC:

Samsung 17" DynaFlat SyncMaster 753Df This monitor is the entry level for Samsung's new perfectly flat screens.Not eveyone likes the new super-flat monitors but personally I love them.This Samsung has superb resolution (.20 dot pitch!) and the usual refresh rate (85Hz at 1024x768).The controls aren't as easy to use at the NEC but most people won't mind.Samsung monitors are generally a great value when you compare price to performance.

Hitachi 17" CM615U-511A good quality monitor (.23 dot pitch 1024x768 85Hz) the best selling point is the deep contrast - the best in this price range.A friend of mine bought one and I was very impressed.The controls are a little cryptic and pain to navigate.On the upside Hitachi just extended their U.S. warranty to 5 years (on monitors sold after 1/31/01)!Two years longer than most companies.

Undependable
This seemed like a great monitor at first.Suddenly after only five months or so of use (5-6 hours per day) I noticed a blurry spot in the screen which began to grow.Adjustments, degaussing, and testing on other computers didn't solve the problem.My old Acer monitor of 5 years is now clearer than the NEC.

Regardless of the warranty, repair means shipping off the monitor which causes costly downtime for a small business owner.I lose enough money in the downtime to buy half a dozen or more of these monitors.I expect hardware to last longer than a few months, especially NEC's since it's often costlier than other brands. ... Incredible!
This is an amazing monitor! I have been wanting to get a new monitor for some time now since my old one was old and small. I finally got an excuse to do so when (like another reviewer) my old Packard Bell monitor finally gave up the ghost. I had previously been shopping around extensively for new monitors and I finally settled on the AccuSync 75F. I am glad I did!!!

The monitor is a flat-screen (not to be confused with LCD) 17 inch (16 inch viewable) super-high-quality monitor. It outperforms any monitor I have seen. It worked wonderfully on my Win98, WinME, and WinXP machine, my iBook Mac OS-9/OS-X machine, AND EVEN my Mandrake Linux 8.1 machine!

It is also fabulous for graphic engineering, a hobby of mine. It is a winner in the category of monitors by a long shot!!!

I would suggest anyone buy this, wether they be starting out in the world of computers or treating themselves to a new computer add-on.

UPDATE:I've had this monitor for over two years now and the cable which is hard wired to the back of the monitor for signal input has failed.The only colour that shows is red, so I am forced to look at everything in a red tint.I have tried it on different computers and have checked the pins, but the problem appears to be in the cable itself.It is not possible to change the input cable unless you take it to a repair shop.You could theoretically do it yourself, but it is STRONGLY advised that you don't due to the hazard for electrical shock.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to downgrade this to 4 stars, because this monitor is excellent just as long as you're very careful with the cable.

Top of the line
I've had this monitor for a while now and I am nothing short of pleased by the performance of this monitor. The NEC AccuSync 75F is a 17" flat screen monitor. My very old Packard Bell had finally died (go figure), so anything would be an upgrade and I did not want to spend any money.

So I finally decided to go out and spend a few hundred on an NEC, which I had not heard a lot about except it was the manufacturer of my CD-ROM. It has a .24 dot pitch, which is standard in this time. This monitor is also very easy on the eyes.. it comes with a lot of built-in features that make sitting behind the monitor for an extended amount of time a joy instead of a headache.

It has suitable resolution support (up to 1280x1024 @ 66 Hz). The monitor also has a very user-friendly setup which is a breeze to control and it comes with a full 3-year warranty. ... Read more

I love this monitor
I bought this monitor About a year ago as a replacemnt to a 15"
older monitor. I fell in love the second the perfectly flat screen came alive with beutiful bright colors, the image filled the entire screen. it works very nice with linux. after a while i got used to how nice this has made my daily viewing experience.
I just purchased a 19" viewsonic A90F, and I felt diapointed.
the screen does not feel flat, and I have geometry problems, the outer edge is black(not a full creen). Im sending it back and going back to NEC for a flat 19" (or other brand).

Best of Show
I have owned all of 3 monitors in my life, an Everdata 14�, a TVM 15� flat screen and finally the NEC FE700+, which won out over two Sonys, a 19 NEC and a 19� Samsung. What impressed me most about this monitor was the richness of color-while the other monitors around it seemed faded, the NEC was hands down the superior screen.When I got it home I had all but forgotten about the other monitors. It�s also big enough that I could increase the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768, and still be able to read text on the screen, something I had trouble doing on my TVM 15�.

This monitor is a dream. Setup time was les than a minute, and Windows detected it for what it was, and not a generic monitor. It is perfect for what I use it for-word processing, games, anda little graphics work in PhotoShop.It�s superb color coupled with NEC�s high quality construction and reputation make this display not only good value, but a good investment. Sure there are �bigger� monitors, but how good are they? I have seen several people with the Samsung950p and I believe the NEC FE700+ gives a superior image quality and is only 2� small in screen size. This is the best monitor that I have ever used.Images are very crisp and colorful.It also has a brighter display than others.I would recommend the FE700 to anyone who is looking for a new monitor.

NEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FE700+ 17" Black
Let me start off by telling you that if you want top of the line performance, this monitor is not for you. This monitor has good refresh rates, dot pitch, and resolution compared to most others at the price, but it's not the best.

What IS good about this monitor is the glass. Multi-layered, and manufactured with high regulations, with great dark, it will give you great color. If you go to your local electronics shop, you will notice that some have much better color than others. The glass quality is probrably what makes that distinction.

Also, as I stated before, though the performance is not the greatest, it IS better than most. After all, it's flat screen, which means better picture clarity, and better viewing at an angle. The .25 dotch pitch is better than the standard .27, so text is more crisp and pictures sharper. And, since the average desktop uses 1024x728 resolution, the 1280x1024 it offers is more than enough.

From another point of view, this monitor is very nice looking. It has a very sleek shape, instead of the boxy look of alot of monitors designed without fashion in mind. And the black color never hurts :)

Conclusion: If you are a home user, use your computer for internet, games, and watching movies, this is a good looking monitor with a low price tag and good performance. NEC FE700M Does it ALL!
Performs as well as any high-end, high-priced monitor on the market.I've owned one for years and that's why I bought another one for my kids.Look's great on high resolution games.Great buy at under $(...).

Couldn't be better
When i saw this monitor i didnt believe it was possible to put a flat screen on a regular monitor. It just blew my mind, I had to buy it instantly. When i got it home and started running my computer at 1024x760 it looked beautiful. Not to mention playing Quake2 in high resolution was beautiful. Being 17 inches with 16 inches is quite good, and i cant wait to watch DVD's on it, all that this monitor needs is to get rid of the two mounting lines you can see when the screen is white, there are these two lines horizontially across the screen that arent really noticable unless screen is white and your looking for them, the manual says they are "shadows from the damper wires used to stabalize the aperture grille". personally i dont care what the lines are, but all i know is if they were to fix the lines this monitor wouldnt have been affordable to me.
