Extremely clear
This monitor is not flat, it has an internal curvature with a glass screen that makes it appear flat.Some people complain about this, but it really does look flat.This is the only monitor that I have ever seen that makes me happy to look at, every time.When people see it they say "wow, nice monitor."No other monitor that I have seen comes close to the initial appearance of this monitor.
The refresh rates, however, have something to be desired.This is unacceptable to me.

Great Monitor
There is not a slight curve as the other reviewer noticed. The reason why he thought there was a curve is probably in his video card and his display properties within Windows or the display properties that the monitor itself has. But there isn't a curve in the internal screen. I've had this monitor for six months now and it works great.I am looking to buy another one like this so that I can have dual monitors.I would recommend.

Good value, but not for the perfectionist
I bought this monitor to replace my old viewsonic that died on me.I mostly use my computer for browsing and gaming.After about a month of use I must say I'm dissappointed.First off, the screen isn't actually flast.If you follow the out edge, there is a slight curve.The glass covering the screen is flat, but the actualy screen is not.The monitor is nice and bright and colors looks good, but the screen flickers at any refresh rate over 60hz at high resolution which is a huge let down.At 60hz it feels like my eyes are bleeding when I looks at a white screen.The resolution range is fine though.Another complaint I have is the shadow I can see behind the screen.A sort of wavy pattern that gets annoying and visible when the screen is dark.I would recommend this monitor for anyone who doesn't need super high resolutions or isn't nit picky about monitors. ... Excellent CD-RW
I bought this CD-RW to put into my dell pc at home.I wasn't sure initially whether it would work, since I keep my Dell machine on its side, but this turned out to be a non-issue, the CD-RW works vertically and horizontally.

I know a bit about PC configurations, so I put the CD-RW's jumper on "Cable Select", to match my configuration, then I slid it in and plugged in some cables.The hardest part of installing this was really just trying to figure out how to open my PC up and remove a front-panel.

Once it was in, I closed up my PC, and booted up to WinXP.I didn't need to do anything, Windows knew about the new hardware.Next I installed Nero, and burned some CDs, it worked beautifullywith the cheap generic CD-R media I bought with it.

Later on, I bought some CD-RWs to go along with it, and realized I needed to install InCD in order to use them, which also came with my Sony CD-RW, once doing that, I can now use CD-RW media just as I would use a Zip disk or floppy or any other media.

I highly recommend this if you're ok with opening up your PC and installing new parts.

I have had no problems
I bought this drive even though another review stated that the software was nothing but a pain. I installed the drive and I am using the software that was already installed for the CD/DVD burner that came with the computer. I did NOT install the software that came with the drive, I just allowed Windows to recognize the drive and install it's own drivers. That, and software I purchased for making cd's and such, and I am a VERY happy camper.

The drive has been working fine for over a month. We burn CD's on it. We use it as a source drive when we need to copy one of our homemade DVDs. It is working flawlessly.

I recommend this drive if you are comfortable with doing the install yourself. I can offer no opinion on the Sony supplied software, as I simply don't use it.

One headache after another....

They got me good

Great product, weird reviews from others.
Alright first off let me respond to the other reviews.

1.) The guy that was disappointed with his Sony CRT did not complete the proper setup or didn't know what he was doing.

2.) The second review (which is a review of the N5) simply states what most know. If you NEED features that the N5 has, then it is worth the extra $50ish dollars. Otherwise, don't worry about what he states.

Alright, I setup this Viewsonic N4 in a retail enviroment with 30+ monitors both LCD and CRT. I looked at the output for tens of hours a week. Take it from me, it is a GREAT product and it does exactly what it supposed to do--with flying colors. The product does such a great job that I sold hundreds of them to customers who could see the quality of the output.

I don't what else to say past that except during 8-9 months of 24/7 use it NEVER failed. They do get hot, but not enough to burn you as was stated. Overall a great product, one which I own personally now after having seen what it could do. Always beware of reviews from people who won't read directions or who test an item for all of 30 minutes before returning it.

N4 - Nice try but ...
Have a spare Sony 15" flat screen CRT monitor, in good shape. Wanted to view VHS/DVD entertainment w/o adding another screen to my small space, so ordered and installed the N4.

The device produced images on the monitor, but the output quality was so poor, and the configuration via remote control and onscreen display was so fussy I decided not to keep it and returned it to Amazon.

No resolution setting or scan rate change improved the screen output (640x480 to 1024x768). Most disappointing was playing back a high-quality DVD (Twin Peaks box set) which uses full screen framing and having the image distorted (compressed horizontally giving skinny figures) no matter how I changed the settings on the N4, the DVD player or the Sony monitor. Infuriating! A VHS tape played more-or-less OK. Used the RF inputs for VHS and DVD and the S-Video inputs for DVD w/o seeing any improvements. Sound quality was OK -- it's just passing on the audio signal.

By way of comparison, playing the same DVD in the combo drive on my Dell laptop w. 14.1" LCD screen and DVD software gives a beautiful, full-screen high-resolution image, great sound and all the rest.

N4 setup was straightforward but printed troubleshooting information was very sparse and of the "check connections" variety. Nothing to help me solve the horizontal distortion.

It's too bad -- a device like this that really works would be a boon. I should have guessed this item was not a success given the small number of reviews and low rating.

Do not buy this product
This is my review for the N5 but I think it will do some good when it comes to buying an N4:whatever you do, do not buy the N4.

Now this is the one review you should listen to.Seriously.I bought the N4 because it was cheaper and I didn't care about closed caption or parental controls, wow, big mistake.The next day I returned it and got the N5, best choice ever.The N5's picture blows away the N4's, true it doesn't have surround sound support, but to me that's no biggie.The picture is crisp (when one sits a few feet back) and looks very close to that of a TV.My only problem is that when using this with a computer doing a VGA pass though, the computer screen is a but blurry, it's because of this that I strongly reccommend a dual input monitor.I'm running it on a 21" sony and it looks excellent.Also it supports wide screen, which is a plus for all us home theater buffs.In short, the N4 felt cheap and worked just that way.It also got extremely hot, too hot to touch, and did all this while skipping frames attempting to process Xbox.

Great Color
I first noticed this monitor at one of those computer stores where they place all the monitors on the same shelf.This one really stood out for color and very sharp focus.I watch movies and play some games and I haven't noticed any ghosting.The only thing that I wish I could do is rotate the screen for word processing (kind of a minor complaint).Otherwise this is a very good monitor and the price is good for a 19 inch LCD.

Colors are washed out
This monitor is way too light (everything appears faded out), and adjusting the contrast and brightness controls don't help.No matter what brightness contrast setting is used, everything is either way too dim & gray or way too light.The monitor's brightness & contrast controls seem to have the exact same function - contrast setting appears to actually be adjusting the brightness and nothing seems to be actually changing the contrast.This will probably be returned soon, unless someone can tell me how to get the correct brightness/contrast setting. ... I personally found this monitor to be very good.

I have always had a good experience with Planar monitors. Hook up was easy and I did not notice any defects.

I used the monitor for some medium to high gaming. ( Call of Duty, American Conquest etc.. ) and so far have had no issues with gaming.

my beautiful 17 inch NEC LCD
I got my MultiSync LCD-1765 about half a year ago and it is so nice.It sits on my desk, freeing up tonnes of room for my keyboard which is always nice.It is built very sturdy, which in my opinion is a good thing.It looks bigger than it really is, says most people.I play quake3 Rocket Arena on it all the time and its quite fine.It turns off and on in less than a second, which is faster than some CRTs I know.It is one of the best LCDs I have come across so far.NEC is a good brand to trust.It matches my grey logitech MX700 wireless mouse.I gave it 5 stars because I have found absolutely no fault with it.

My next plan is to get some kinda adapter to hook this up to a playstation 2 video output, tv cable, or dvd player.I dunno if having a DVI input would have made this LCD any easier to hook up but ah what the heck.I will get a Vesa wallmount for it also and mount on my wall so I can watch movies from my bed.Overall, it has done a good job so far.It still gets 5 stars for that.

The only thing that would have made this an amazing deal would be a lower price tag.Don't get me wrong this is fair value for money.But I wish I could have spent 300 on it instead of 500.

Determine a monitors Sharpness
Most stores have WinXP as the OS. To determine the sharpness when displaying type faces - find out where the keyboard and mouse are located.You may have to ask a clerk to get you out of the screen saver to the "desktop" window of WinXP. Press Start/Run.. and type in wordpad and press enter. Then mouse over to the font size and get it to Arial size 12. Then type rounded capital letters like O Q P R G B D C. If I saw the O as a 8 sided stop sign -- I would reject that monitor. BUT there is a way to get the display to be in ClearType. Hit Help to learn how. Then after ClearType is active the capital O etc will display as rounded letters.

On this NEC 1765 monitor I saw it as rounded letters - so I wanted to buy this one. But I hate the plastic front covering because of the reflected glare from background light. Thats why I rated this with only 2 stars.Dont get me wrong - this is a very good monitor NEC usually is.

I just bought a 19" monitor lizzard by Sharp which has a contrast of 700:1 and 3 analog inputs which can be switched from a button on the front + it has a DVI input making it ready for the future. The screen display has a button to change the display instantly from a colorful gaming mode to a more subdued modes. I havent opened the box yet but folks here on Amazon gave it 5 stars.

Beats the competition
I looked long and hard at Sony, Samsung and Envision monitors before I bought this, and I have been very satisfied with my purchase. It is crystal clear with text, graphics and movies. Set it up with decent speakers and it's great for DVDs.

My two cents...
Like other reviews posted, when you step into the monitors section in CompUSA this monitor will catch your eye. Not because of its style (at least not for me), but for its incredible picture quality. It is flawless for viewing DVDs and playing video games - enough said. One concern I had before I bought it was the glare. In the stores there is a glare. However, this has not been a problem for me. The only time I can see a glare or reflection is when the screen in completely black - which is never the case when I'm using it. I have no complaints, but will echo that fact that the base is stiff. But this is of no real concern unless you plan on moving or tilting your monitor frequently.

Is It High Quality CRT??!!
The colors are so realistic and bright that I can't help think that it's a CRT.The difference is that with these I can fit two in the same space it takes to have one CRT.Whether turned on or off it always looks like a beautiful picture frame.But when playing a movie or game is when it really shines.I dare you to compare side by side with more expensive LCDs and see for yourself.You will be amazed. ... too reflective
I got this because my monitor faces a window and during the daylight hours I can barely read the screen.This filter did little to help because its surface is flat, shiny, and reflective - as bad as the glass on my monitor.I am returning it for a filter with a non-reflective coating.

Protect your eye!
This simple filter works as it should be. Although it doesn't look fancy, the filter is great and prevent the radiation to go directly into your eyes. At the same time, it provides even more vivid picture than before. You can feel immediately the difference using this filter.

It's a little ugly I admit and looks not like a new one - because of its color. The assembly is simple but robust. Only two bars on top of it but it stand firmly without any sticker. Good design that allow you to remove easily but you don't need to worry about it will drop.

Essential stuff
For health and comfort reason, I think this antiradiation filter is very important for people who have prolong exposure to their computer monitor.Before I bought this filter, I used to get red eyes, but now they are all gone.;)

Is amazon trying to cheat you?
Based on the description by Amazon.com:

I thought they were selling 3M model AF250XL. But it turned out to be the cheaper version BF20XL.Basically they shipped me a lemon. I am sending it back.

If they want to be straight,why can't amazon put the manufacturers model number on the desciption. Do you smell something here?
