4-0 out of 5 stars Good Monitor, Value Price
Very good monitor and very reasonably priced. There may be better monitors indeed, but this one delivers. On close inspection of details, it is a little bit plasticose, and cables are 2nd quality, but compensates with great image. I have an Apple display on my G4 and compared it falls slightly short, but for price and general use, I highly recomend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor!
This Monitor looks and works great.I ordered this in late December, which I must have timed it just right. The price was only $279.80.If I knew how great a deal it was I would of ordered more.No tax, and free shipping.I figured they were just getting inventory down before the end of the year because I can't find it even close to that price again!Very satisfied. Thanks!
P.S.
I located it on Techbargains.com, and it took me to Amazon.com where I placed my order.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor @ Bargain Price
I read the reviews for this monitor and I was a little bit hesitant on ordering it, but I figured hey ZDnet are professional computer people and look at things most home users will never really need to worry about!Well I am now using this monitor and I don't see anything wrong with it all, my pictures are clear, text is clear, Mac OS X Jaguar even recognized it without me having to install a single piece of softare. This monitor is great if you want a LARGE LCD at the small LCD price point!

4-0 out of 5 stars "pleased with mine"
This is my 5th home LCD monitor; 3rd 17 inch model. Not a single dead pixel; and it looks great. There might be better monitors for exorbitant prices, but this one is definitely adequate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor

5-0 out of 5 stars my beautiful 17 inch NEC LCD
I got my MultiSync LCD-1765 about half a year ago and it is so nice.It sits on my desk, freeing up tonnes of room for my keyboard which is always nice.It is built very sturdy, which in my opinion is a good thing. It looks bigger than it really is, says most people.I play quake3 Rocket Arena on it all the time and its quite fine.It turns off and on in less than a second, which is faster than some CRTs I know.It is one of the best LCDs I have come across so far.NEC is a good brand to trust. It matches my grey logitech MX700 wireless mouse.I gave it 5 stars because I have found absolutely no fault with it.

My next plan is to get some kinda adapter to hook this up to a playstation 2 video output, tv cable, or dvd player.I dunno if having a DVI input would have made this LCD any easier to hook up but ah what the heck.I will get a Vesa wallmount for it also and mount on my wall so I can watch movies from my bed.Overall, it has done a good job so far.It still gets 5 stars for that.

The only thing that would have made this an amazing deal would be a lower price tag.Don't get me wrong this is fair value for money. But I wish I could have spent 300 on it instead of 500.

Any questions about my LCD? email is = sonicvybe@yahoo

2-0 out of 5 stars Determine a monitors Sharpness
Most stores have WinXP as the OS. To determine the sharpness when displaying type faces - find out where the keyboard and mouse are located. You may have to ask a clerk to get you out of the screen saver to the "desktop" window of WinXP. Press Start/Run.. and type in wordpad and press enter. Then mouse over to the font size and get it to Arial size 12. Then type rounded capital letters like O Q P R G B D C. If I saw the O as a 8 sided stop sign -- I would reject that monitor. BUT there is a way to get the display to be in ClearType. Hit Help to learn how. Then after ClearType is active the capital O etc will display as rounded letters.

On this NEC 1765 monitor I saw it as rounded letters - so I wanted to buy this one. But I hate the plastic front covering because of the reflected glare from background light. Thats why I rated this with only 2 stars.Dont get me wrong - this is a very good monitor NEC usually is.

I just bought a 19" monitor lizzard by Sharp which has a contrast of 700:1 and 3 analog inputs which can be switched from a button on the front + it has a DVI input making it ready for the future. The screen display has a button to change the display instantly from a colorful gaming mode to a more subdued modes. I havent opened the box yet but folks here on Amazon gave it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beats the competition
I looked long and hard at Sony, Samsung and Envision monitors before I bought this, and I have been very satisfied with my purchase. It is crystal clear with text, graphics and movies. Set it up with decent speakers and it's great for DVDs.

5-0 out of 5 stars My two cents...
Like other reviews posted, when you step into the monitors section in CompUSA this monitor will catch your eye. Not because of its style (at least not for me), but for its incredible picture quality. It is flawless for viewing DVDs and playing video games - enough said. One concern I had before I bought it was the glare. In the stores there is a glare. However, this has not been a problem for me. The only time I can see a glare or reflection is when the screen in completely black - which is never the case when I'm using it. I have no complaints, but will echo that fact that the base is stiff. But this is of no real concern unless you plan on moving or tilting your monitor frequently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is It High Quality CRT??!!
The colors are so realistic and bright that I can't help think that it's a CRT.The difference is that with these I can fit two in the same space it takes to have one CRT.Whether turned on or off it always looks like a beautiful picture frame. But when playing a movie or game is when it really shines.I dare you to compare side by side with more expensive LCDs and see for yourself. You will be amazed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Sleek style & excellent quality
I have the earlier reincarnation of this monitor PL-190M which I have had for about 2 years. I bought it when LCDs used to be very expensive. Mine has not a single bad pixel and I am very happy with it. The response time is one of the fastest. The screen could be a little brighter. What's amazing to me is that despite the fall in prices Planar is continuing to offer a 3-year warranty and free 2-day advance replacement warranty for 3 years. Moreover they'd also replace your monitor if you had more than 3 bad pixels. AFAIK no one else even comes close to Planar's warranty. I haven't used the speakers so I cannot say anything about their quality. I'd buy a Planar monitor in a heart beat. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Take your PC with you, around the house or throughout your office, and work wherever you want, with the ViewSonic airpanel V110. This wireless monitor lets you check your email or surf the Web remotely from your Windows XP Pro-based PC (free upgrade to Windows XP Profession Edition and free USB wireless adapter and cable are included).

Don't think of the airpanel as a computer; it's a wireless accessory for your existing PC that you can write on and that provides access to all your files, applications, and settings. The design is chunky but easy to hold, with rounded corners and a clear, bright screen. Two USB ports on the top accept a mouse and keyboard, but since the airpanel is a touch screen, you probably won't need them.

In our tests of the airpanel, we found that the stylus was small but had a nice balance. The four-way cursor control was a little slow, but at least we didn't jostle the cursor accidentally; and the left and right mouse buttons were useful with the pen too. For text entry, we typed and wrote into an input panel. We tapped and dragged onscreen to control Windows itself; in fact, we could see our PC's desktop on the airpanel as if we were sitting in front of the PC screen, but without desktop wallpaper.

The 10.4-inch screen looked small initially, but when we held it in our hands or rested it on our lap, it didn't feel cramped; and it was small and light enough to carry easily from room to room. Without the usual PC components like a hard drive, CD-ROM, and so on, the Airpanel didn't get too warm to hold either.

Overall, the airpanel V110 is pricier than a normal PC monitor, but being untied from a desk is a great benefit. Mary Branscombe, Amazon.co.uk ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not to shabby!
This thing is really just a big oll remote for all of your computers! Thank god! hah

It appears that some people have this confused as a full blown tablet PC. Well it isn't. It is as one of the users put it just a terminal interface that uses the remote connection built into winXP

The main target for this device I would think should be people who are interested in a Home theater PC. Well actually a remote for their HTPC. With the Mplus software that comes installed on the newer Air panels (http://www.mplusint.com/) you can do quiet a bit with this thing.

Might also be handy for the kitchen looking up recipes and stuff. Then again I GUESS you could just print it!

This device isn't for my mom it isn't for my friend who casually uses a PC. This device is for me who has several PC's and an extensive HTPC setup. For 400$ this thing is pretty slick. I would like it to be at around 300$ after all is said and done.

4-0 out of 5 stars To the person who recommened another brand...
To the person who recommened the Envision EN-5200e 15" LCD Monitor instead of the ViewSonic Airpanel V110 10" Smart Display...I hate to tell you this but they are totally different kinds of monitors. The Envision is just a monitor period.I have a 15" Rad LCD monitor which I like fairly well...if on a site to long the numbers and letters imprint in the screen forever lol.But the ViewSonic "Smart Display" is a monitor that you install wireless and then can use at the desk or you can take it to the living room, bedroom, outside or wherever and continue to use as if you were at your desk.I don't mean to sound bossy or know-it-all, but they really are two different birds! Thanks for listening.
P.S. That's why there is a big price difference too. :o)

5-0 out of 5 stars Has some flaws, but pretty cool
A little too heavy for my taste, but I like the versatility and robustness of the Air Panel.Great display!Really pleasant to read on and nicely built.Of course price is high on this, but just wait a few months and it'll come down quick.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why?
In an age of sub-500 dollar laptops... why would you want one of these "appliances" (read: Novelty Item) at the current price-point...? I have a wireless network set up in my home and connect with two desktops, two laptops, a print server, and a HP Pocket PC. All of the drives are shared, every device can hit on the print server, and all devices can be used simultaneously. In the case of the laptops and the Pocket PC, they can be used anywhere on my property and even will roam across the street. I have one PC laptop that stays at home and a Powerbook that travels with me. When I go to work, I roam right into another wireless network and again share all of my resources. The difference is that when I am sitting in the airport or a hotel room, I can actually pull out my laptop and work. Back to the original question: Why would you want to spend [so much] on a dumb terminal when you can have a full-blown laptop for much less? The tablet PC would be at least as good as the laptop and would offer the "touch screen" interface for those who like it. This "smart display" is the whole "network appliance" idea, which apparently just will not die, repackaged - the proverbial "pig with lipstick" ... or is it the Trojan Horse? Following the technology insider's path, the next move will be to "simulate" the versatility of the stand-alone laptop by having the "smart display" link up to a Microsoft server and an Adobe server and a Corel server ...etc. At first we will be given this "feature" at, or possibly below, cost (called a "loss leader" in marketing). Then, after a period of time, we will be forced to pay increasingly higher monthly fees to both access our software and to store our information. Pandemonium will follow... I can see it coming as clearly as I can see a storm coming on the Weather Channel's radar. Personally, I am taking my laptop and my umbrella.

3-0 out of 5 stars A technical question; inventory tracking
I'm considering Smart Displays for a business application.

I don't know why the marketing (that I've seen) for this product is just the home market. Yes, I realize it works with Windows XP Pro which can be connected to using remote desktop connection, and there's a free upgrade CD for XP Home users.

It seems I could use it in a business environment, such as a warehouse, and connect to a Windows 2003 Server running terminal services, and attach a (USB) barcode reader--preferably the wand/pen type, or an RFID reader, to it to do physical inventory tracking?

Ok, I realize 2003 Server is not quite out yet (I have RC2). But wouldn't that be a good application for it? The inventory data displayed is always up-to-date, and there's no need to sync up to upload or download data. I think it would be a "killer" application for smart displays.

My main reason for writing this comment is to ask that question, but I do have a comment. I've looked at the V110 and V150 displays at CompUSA. They're not hooked up to any Windows XP Pro computer. So the ViewSonic demo kind of falls short if you're trying to figure out how they work or how well they work. I took my laptop which has 2003 Server on it to CompUSA, but those displays are not actually Smart Displays. They're fake displays running a little floor show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good picture. Nice design.
I purchased this monitor/tv for use as tv in the bedroom.Hook up was a breeze.Initially we hooked up a Sony Playstation to use as a DVD player, but the picture was poor. The images would blur if there was lots of movement. We tried our newer DVD player and the picture improved dramatically.Sound is good too.It is a nice sleak design and has a good remote w/ lots of options.Would recommend for tv or monitor.Purchased through Costco online for under $400.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor
I just purchased this at a Home Depot for, get this $169.It was on close out. I just got the last of 3 remaining.I thought I would have to get a new video card but didn't.It loaded easy and works perfect. This is a wide screen but for now the picture does not fill in completly.I have a black margin left & right about 1" or so.I have not hooked it up to a TV, I'm just enjoying it off the 10 yr. old Gateway CP.Keep your eye out if this goes on close out.It was not advertised just sitting up in front of the store. So you never know!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent LCD Monitor and TV
I recently purchased this monitor, and it has been working exceptionally well.It is a very versatile monitor, and is especially useful for tight areas where space can be limited.I enjoy the many features this monitor offers. The setup for the monitor went smoothly; however, I would recommend reading the manual to make sure everything was set up properly.I realized that my video card doesn't support the 1280 x 768 screen resolution, so I decided to use the 1024 X 768.I would recommend anyone interested in purchasing this monitor to check their video card to make sure it supports 1280 X 768 resolution. I have watched several DVDs, and the monitor has worked very well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality and versatility...
I live in a studio, so space and functionality are key issues. The Sharp LCD TV Monitor 17 took care of my problems in a big way. I have my PS2, Xbox, cable TV, and PC all hooked up at once. I watch TV on the picture-in-picture mode while working on the computer. Then, with a touch of a button I toggle over to play a round of Xbox or PS2. For gaming, watching DVD's, and high-res computer graphics this thing is incredible. For strictly watching TV it's decent. As for the sound, the built in speakers are definitely acceptable.

Although I thought the styling looked bland at the store, it looks sleek and modern at home. Glare seemed to be an issue at the store as well due to the protective cover and store lighting. Not a problem at home, in fact, the protective cover seems to make images brighter than most other LCD TVs.

I looked at just about every other flat panel monitor and LCD TV, but none had the combination of quality, resolution, inputs, functionality and price.

By the way, you need to take some time and adjust the settings correctly according to the manual when first hooking the thing up. Another reviewer clearly failed to do this. It's easy and necessary to get the most out of the monitor.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK performance, but did not last.
This monitor delivered sufficient picture quality for watching DVDs in the bedroom (the reason I bought it).I did notice artifacts in the video that I should not have been getting with S-Video or component hookup from a DVD player, but at a viewing distance of more than 3 feet, the artifacts were not noticeable. The artifacts I noticed seemed to be due to the way the chrominance part of the signal was being processed. When a color bar test pattern was displayed from a test DVD, there were nasty composite-like "dot crawl" artifacts in the color transitions, even when using S-Video or component hookups. There seemed to be a lot of color dithering going on in the pictures from DVD viewed through S-Video or component cables.

My only other complaint was with the sharpness control.Running the sharpness control at any setting other than the lowest produced too much "edge enhancement".The lowest setting eliminated the false edges, but may have softened the picture more than it should have.I'd liked to have had more of a choice of settings between the first two sharpness settings.

The monitor no longer works.A couple of months ago, while watching, the picture froze up and the unit did not respond to any of the buttons.I unplugged it and it would no longer power up until about an hour later.Last week, this happened again and I've been unable to power up the unit since.

The unit was purchased on May 1, 2004 and is already dead as of early November 2004.It's still under manufacturer's warranty for parts and labor, but it's a hassle to have to deal with this, since I'll always wonder if it will break again in the future after being repaired.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Color and Clarity with Images and Type
I chose this monitor to replace a wonderful Sony Trinitron that had experienced a premature death.I would have bought another Sony but word has it that they are getting out of the CRT market. This Mitsubishi was the best monitor for graphic editing I could afford and certainly all that I needed. With the help of Tim Grey's "Color Confidence" and Eye One Match 3 software, I calibrated the color and am now producing perfect prints. You can download a user's guide (do a google search for diamondpro2070sb-usersguide-english) and supportive software (necmitsubishi.com/naviset).Read Nec's advice on cleaning the monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Very Best CRT on the market
This is the very best CRT monitor you can buy. I watch full length movies and television on it daily and it's absolutely perfect...better than my regular tv! You can make so many adjustments I find it hard to believe that anyone could find fault with this product. I have a ATI 9800 Pro and everything is perfect...no defects whatsoever. No computer display, not even a LCD comes close to this monitor for viewing pleasure. One of the things I love are the Super Bright Modes...there are three levels of brightness making it better than a LCD. All the controls are a finger touch away at the bottom of the display and easy to use. If you don't like that you can download the NaviSet software which is great also. This monitor even has 4 USB connections on the side! The only other CRT that comes close to would be the 21" Sony Artisan and that costs $1795 with a smaller screen! The only downside to this CRT monitor is the size and weight but if you have the space you will be much happier with this monitor than with a flatpanel because in my opinion LCD and flatpanels have limitations relating to viewing angles, etc...which make them not perfected yet. This monitor may be large but it's also large in delivering a perfect picture and for the price (Amazon's price is the best) it's the best value on the market bar none.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This monitor was a huge disappointment. I believe there is either a manufacturing or design defect. To find out why, here's an exceprt from a letter that I sent to NEC-Mitsubishi.

Dear NEC-MITSUBISHI Engineering,

I'm writing you after I spoke with your customer support representatives over the phone, and they recommend me to write you about the issue which I'm going to describe here, because I believe it's a manufacturing defect in all DP2070SB-BK models manufactured in January and February 2004.

So far I have tested two brand new units. The first one I purchased from Amazon.com and it was manufactured in January 2004 (serial # 41101003YA). It had an incurable geometric distortion problem, and therefore I replaced it with another brand new unit from Amazon.com that was manufactured in February 2004 (serial # 42101534YA). The second unit suffers from exactly the same incurable geometric defect.

I have tested the units on different computers that have different video cards manufactured by different companies. The first computer has an NVIDIA Quadro 2 EX chipset and the second one has an NVIDIA GeForce Ultra FX 5700 chipset. I have moved the monitors to different locations, rotated them in all directions relative to the Earth's magnetic field, tried different power outlets, turned off all electrical equipment and lighting, tried different data cables with different thicknesses and qualities, in addition to the cables that come bundled with the units. All of these didn't eliminate the geometric defect.

Also note that I have tried two different DP2060u models on the same computers (the predecessors of the DP2070SB) and both of them don't have the geometric defect of the DP2070SB-BK.

I believe this eliminates the possibility that the defect is connected to my equipment or location.

Basically, both of the DP2070SB-BK units bend the center of horizontal lines downward in the upper half of the screen (the horizontal band around 2.5" to the top and 2.5" to the bottom of the upper aperture grill wire). Horizontal lines curve in the center downward in a flattened U-shape pattern, so if you have a horizontal line in the mentioned band area that extends from the far left to the far right of the screen, and hold a straight ruler against the screen that meets this line at the far left and the far right, you will clearly notice that the horizontal line curves downward in the center, and its distance from the bottom of the ruler at the center (actually about 0.5" to the right the center) is about 2.5 to 3.0 mm. You can also clearly see the curvature if you do the following.

1) Open a window and extend its right and left borders all the way to the left and right of the screen.

2) Open Notepad with a blank white document and maximize it, so that you can clearly see the upper aperture grill wire.

3) Bring the first window to the foreground, so that it's visible against Notepad's white background.

4) Align the top border of the window with the far left and far right of the upper aperture grill wire.

5) You will clearly see that the window border dips in the center about 2.5 to 3.0 mm below the wire.

This test obviously assumes that the aperture wire is perfectly straight, but as I mentioned above, you will also see the same defect if you placed a straight ruler against the screen.

Note that this curvature doesn't happen at the very top of the screen or its lower half. Only in the band around the upper aperture grill wire.

The defect is visible and very annoying to any discriminate graphics or CAD professional. In fact, I can't tolerate it at all!

I have tried every geometric adjustment using both the front buttons and NaviSet. I reset the geometry to the factory default at all applicable resolutions and refresh rates and used the "Auto" function on the recommended resolution and refresh rate (1600x1200@85Hz). Also note that the factory reset brings up an image that is rotated counter-clockwise on both units. This defect seems to be some kind of vertical pincushion pattern (push on the top), and the geometric controls can only adjust horizontal pincushion patterns (push on the sides).

The two units will be returned to you soon from Amazon.com, but I'm sure that all the DP2070SB-BK units manufactured during January and February 2004 (or may be before or after) have the same defect. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Princeton LCD line decent, but far from great
I bought this model due to the deal that was available at the time. For the price I find this lcd to be pretty good as long as you only have a analog connection. For everyday web browsing this is a pretty good deal. However if you planned on buying this for watching movies or playing games you might want to consider your purchase carefully. This lcd, despite its contrast spec, has rather poor contrast.Yes, you can tune up the contrast so that colors in games and movies become more distinguished, however at high contrast settings the lighter spectrum of colors become far too bright. It's almost impossible to adjust this monitor into a satisfying setting that you can usefor movie viewing and web browsing. But for the standard user this monitor will do fine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor for the price
I got this monitor about a month ago. I have had zero problems with it and love it so much!!! I did a lot of research and it seemed this fit the bill well. It has at least and, succeeded some, of the minimum requirements which are pretty high now. The colors took some adjusting to since I had an ancient CRT monitor which had dulled over the years. It is crisp clear and I have had no "ghosting" problems. LOVE IT. Thanks Amazon.com

3-0 out of 5 stars Go for the Senergy model
Princeton Digital is really shooting themselves in the foot (feet?) by creating three separate lines of LCD monitors (SENergy, LCD and SL) and then selling the supposedly "high-end" SENergy series at low prices. If you want a 17" LCD monitor, check out the Priceton SENergy 714, which is a better-quality monitor for the same price -- lower if you can find a rebate. The SENergy monitors are better quality and also better supported.I really don't see why Princeton doesn't just consolidate all the products into one line and make sure all their offerings are solid in quality.Their "value"-oriented SL line is pissing off a lot of people. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Greatdesign, but bad color cast
I have a graphics card with two plugs, so I was able to compare this monitor side-by-side with a 19" X-Brite Sony LCD (one monitor used DVI, the other analog, but I switched back and forth and it didn't seem to make any difference which one was on which for my observations).

The Sony was bright and brilliant, and made the HP look positively dull by comparison. One big advantage of the HP is that it can show a true black screen; the Sony's blacks are marred by the backlight "leaking" in from the side.

However, the deal breaker with the HP was the color cast--there was a slight yellow tint that I couldn't get rid of, even after updating the drivers, and using the OSD to adjust colors, etc. Also, if one raises the monitor's contrast to above 75%, this color cast becomes much more pronounced.

I really wanted to like this monitor, but after comparing it side by side with the other monitor displaying the same image, I decided I just couldn't live with the yellow color cast.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Monitor!!!
I compared to many other monitors including Samsung, NEC, Sony, etc. and was leaning toward a Sony based strictly on specs alone because of the higher brightness and contrast ratio. I decided it just wasn't worth the price difference since I really couldn't tell a difference staring at them side by side in a local store.

When I got this home I had to adjust the brightness down considerably. I can't imagine why I would need anything brighter. Anti glare surface works well.Picture clarity and colors are just awesome! I was really surprised at how much better it looks now then the display at the store. And compared to the 19" CRT I just replaced this with, WOW!I can't believe the difference.

Very well thought out design. Range of movement is excellent. There is no other monitor out there that compares to this in terms of adjustability. This was probably the thing that pushed me over the edge to buy the HP.Being able to adjust the monitor in any direction (tilt, height, side to side) with just one finger is very nice when I'm sharing with someone else.Only reason for the 4 rating for design is wire placement.I had problems fitting my fingers in the space provided on the back of the monitor to attach the cables and had to get my wife to help. But I can live with the initial annoying 5 minutes of setup considering everything else the monitor provides.

Having matching HK speakers is very nice for aesthetics. They are not the best, but are fine for my needs to hear when MS beeps at me, watch an occasional video or play CDs for some background music.

One recommedation - DEFINITELY follow the HP recommendations with installing the drivers!!It made a big difference in picture quality when I actually followed directions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful design
This is my first LCD monitor, and I'm so picky that I did a lot of research and in-store playing before making my selection.

Comparing models side-by-side in the store, I found that despite the f1903's reported contrast ratio of only 500:1, I found it consistently as bright if not brighter than others with higher reported contrast ratios.(I was sure to check all the brightness/contrast settings.)So I wonder what that number really means. The lesson here is to look at the screen for yourself.

The highest praise goes to the very adjustable base and stand. It will tilt and swivel and even raise up and down to find your comfortable viewing angle.I was surprised to find that the height adjustment actually acts like a spring tensioned to the weight of the monitor, so it only takes a simple lift or press of the frame to raise and lower it.

It ships with the brightness set to 100% and the contrast at only 50%, but actually that looks perfect for a dim environment.Raising the contrast to 75% will sufficiently blast your retinas, but beyond that I notice some color distortions at the bright end.

It also ships set to a color temperature of 6500K (warm/yellow), and also offers 9300K (cool/blue), but I found that a custom setting of RGB(50,50,55) looks best to me.

The on-screen control interface is very attractive, but still functional.Unlike some other models I tried, it doesn't take 2 minutes to adjust a value from 0 to 100%.It could benefit from some presets or memory settings though, so one could quickly adjust for viewing in bright areas, dark areas, movie viewing, etc.It offers a slick opacity setting that you can adjust to your liking, and you can also move the control area around the screen.I moved mine to the lower right corner so it's above the buttons on the bezel, which makes sense to me.

My model shows one stuck pixel that comes and goes. Not bad when the HP specs allow for up to 7 flaws. And this one's not even noticable except on a black screen.

The viewing angle is reported at 170 degrees horizontal, but that's hardly an exact property to be measured.I actually find that when I move more than 30 degrees off center, the image turns slightly yellow like an old newspaper and gets dimmer as the angle increases.I don't see any sort of cut-off around 170 degrees though.

Pixel response would have to be my biggest disappointment, but I should point out that I'm picky. When scrolling black text in a browser, it can turn slightly purple or blue.Certain color combinations are particular bad though, and I discovered this while playing Yahoo! Pool.A red or pink ball moving across a green background leaves a very noticeable trail.Upon seeing this, I tried viewing a DVD, and found that certain high-speed action such as the running of a horse's legs will get blurred and possibly change color. But I realize that LCD technology has yet to match the performance of a traditional CRT, and given that, this monitor doesn't do bad at all.I've seen much worse on laptop screens.

I also noticed that this particular LCD acts a little different than most when touched.Specifically, it leaves not just a dot where my finger pressed, but a dot with an X through it.This is neither good nor bad, but I just found it interesting.I'm curious what technology is at work behind that behavior.

I should note that I'm using the DVI connection and supplied DVI-D cable.(The box doesn't indicate that any DVI cable is included, but mine had one, so don't do like I did and buy one extra then have to return it.)However for analog connections, there are some very simple calibration tools to give you the best possible picture. And the "auto" button on the bezel is only for analog connections.(I tried to use the calibration and the auto button before I realized it wasn't necessary for digital connections.)

Overall I'm very satisfied, but it loses a star for the viewing angle and pixel response.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elevates your desktop to new levels and a good tv screen
A 19 inch monitor is pretty big these days for a PC.Apple with their new 30 widescreen is in a different league (more like furniture), but for normal people this monitor will suffice. It makes my old 17 inch LCD feel small and is probably as big as my 20 inch TV.

For the price (get it at discount), you can't beat this HP F1903.Not only does it look good, it is sharp, relatively bright, just large enough to wow you and its stand will elevate off your desk almost 8 inches. Why does this matter? You will no longer scrunch your back while you potatosurf the internet.

The default settings were already at 100% brightness, but the contrast seemed low.Boosting contrast slightly made reading a lot easier and increased sharpness slightly. If you increase contrast too much, the colors change (like from grey to yellowgrey).

I have a TV tuner card in my desktop and having a 19 inch TV on your desktop will instantly save you couch time for that casual channel surfing when you're bored.

The colors are not as saturated as the Samsung 19 inch that my friend has, but are more realistic.Skin does look smooth on this monitor, not red or orange.Which brings me to this: Download the most current drivers on the HP website for an accurate color profile.

The package weighs 26 pounds and this is mostly due to the heavy base. All is forgiven when you slide this monitor up higher off your desk.Your posture will thank you for sure.

I paid slightly more than a 17 inch monitor and got a great 19 inch LCD which looks modern and gives me larger viewing (at 1280x1024, everything looks better bigger vs. a 17inch monitor). The silver bezel looks nice against a light colored wall- it is not as imposing as an all black monitor.HP has some high quality touches like a backlit power button, a very good antiglare coating, and a very solid (almost heavy) base.It comes fully assembled and with a pair of basic Harmon Kardon speakers (I have not used yet). ...
