5-0 out of 5 stars Biased but impressed.
I got this monitor at a great price from Newegg.com before it was discovered by everyone so I may be biased. To be honest, the market price went up is up $200 within 1 week of my purchase so it is possible mine was just a mistaken price they decided to honor.Regardless, this is an exception monitor with an excellent color, bright and vivid images, and crisp text that blew me away.I replaced a Iiyama 17"CRT that was 5 years old and top ranked when I bought it with this monitor and could not believe how much better it looked and performed.Best yet, it looks really cool on my now clean desktop and can be adjusted in height, angle and pivot so easily I am constantly changing its posture based on what I am doing (internet, word processing, gaming. You'll love it! ... Amazon.com Product Description

The C793DF from Samsung is a 17-inch (16-inch viewable image size) CRT monitor with a DynaFlat screen and three different brightness settings designed to work with a variety of applications. With its 1,280 x 1,024 maximum resolution and fine 0.20 mm horizontal dot pitch, the C793DF delivers high-quality display images that are accurate and easy to see, while its anti-glare screen treatment helps to reduce reflections and the resulting eyestrain.

The monitor supports RGB analog input signals through its 15-pin mini D-sub connection. Its power supply consumes about 80 watts during normal operation. The C793DF has 30 to 70 kHz horizontal and 50 to 160 Hz vertical scanning frequencies and a 110 MHz maximum bandwidth. Weighing 31.5 pounds, the monitor has a 15.8-by-14.9-inch footprint, which fits easily onto most desktops. Compatible with PC, Mac, and Sun Microsystems operating systems, the C793DF comes backed by a three-year warranty on parts, labor, and CRT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy since July 13, 2004
I bought this monitor almost a year ago and it is still going strong. I am the computer tech for a non-profit agency that provides a computer lab for the public. I was so happy with the 793DF that I recommended my company replace their old monitors at work with this same model.
We had one bad monitor (out of 9 total) shipped to us but Amazon had a replacement there within a week, no problem!
They have been in service for over 6 months now with a great picture on all of them. They are used by the general public daily and go through the normal use/abuse that people put them through.
I bought it because the old monitor at work that has been on my desktop is a Samsung and after 6 years is still ticking!
Samsung Rocks!
Thanks Amazon!

1-0 out of 5 stars This Monitor Is NOT a Good Purchase!
I purchased this monitor in Dec. 2004 from a Amazon, which did it's job well. Delivery was on time. I put the monitor to use and kept my old monitor which was 10 years old in a box. I used this new monitor, but after about a month it seemed that I was able to discern the refreshing of the screen. Then in April of 2005, the screen of the new monitor began to have horizonal lines in brown flashing across the screen, a few, then more, then it overwhelmed my screen. I called the Samsung tech help. I was told to clean all of my pc's cards, clean the RAM, take my pc all apart. I did clean out the inside of the pc with air, but didn't do the other. I then turned the pc on, and within 4 hours the lines began to reappear. Then the entire screen went into a horizonal blurring of lines. I shut it down, quickly. And put my old monitor back in service, to make sure that it wasn't the new monitor. Upon restarting my pc, I noticed that my RAM was missing 64 MB's...a stick had burn up! I had to pull the bad stick of RAM out. And then reboot. I now have less RAM, and I'm using my old monitor now for about 10 days with no PROBLEM!

Samsung tech gave me an RMA and I had to put $150 onto my credit card so that they would send me a, what I thought should be a new replacement monitor. Now, sitting on my table is the bad monitor in the box that they sent the replacement monitor in, the GREEN Label in place so that they will accept it back! And on the box was the words: REFURBISHED! They sent me a refurb monitor that has a mfr date of July '04 on it!!!! I'm afraid to even hook it up! I feel that I've been swindled! I am using my old monitor and the replacement unit will become a dust collector. If I hook up the refurb it will probably burn up my pc, my office and my business! To much to risk!

I suppose the old addage, if it ain't broke don't fix it should have been adhered to by me.

I'm out my purchase price for the monitor, I had to pay the shipping back to Samsung of the bad monitor to the tune of $30! I will have to hope that they don't run off with the credit card $150 as well, but if they do, I would be out more than $350!!!

Bad service from Samsung all around.

I will never, ever purchase anything with that name on it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MONITOR
Purchased this monitor from amazon with free shipping and 25 dollar rebate. It was the lowest price around. Received monitor, it took about 5 minutes to set up looks great would highly recommend this monitor and use amazon for the lowest price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best quality
I've used other LCD monitors at my workplace, but the brightness, brilliance and clarity of the Sony's SDM-series monitors surpasses all of them. Images do not look "pixelized" like those on Samsung LCD monitors. The price is well worth it (...).

Others have complained that the base of the monitor is too large -- However I have no problem with it because it's the perfect place for my wireless mouse & keyboard receiver!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely good value
I was looking for a Samsung 17 inch monitor when I spotted the Sony SDM-HS73. The picture was amazingly crisp and the colors bright compared to the NEC and Samsung monitors next to it. Reading the specs, I noticed that its pixel pitch was .264mm, and the contrast ratio was 500:1, indicating a very good quality monitor. When I brought it home, I placed it next to my old 19 inch CRT monitor to compare screen size - the SDM-HS73 was a tad bit bigger! Setup was simple - plug and play. I ran my favorite screen saver, Marine Aquarium on it and couldn't be happier. The picture looks great - sharp text, vivid colors. My husband will be buying one also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow.
Ended up with this monitor through pure serendipity.Went to look at either an NEC or the Sony HS72 LCDs to get a feel for them.Store where we went to look was in the midst of remodeling, and HS72 must have broken in transit.NEC looked nice, but then on a whim we asked to see the HS73 since the 72 wouldn't come on.Wow.Incredible picture - level of detail and crispness of picture were stunning; all the technical specs were excellent as well. Salesperson told us HS73 was successor to HS72, and it was 50 bucks cheaper to boot. So we bought two. :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars everything you need, nothing you don't
No built-in speakers, no fancy trim, the 91t is a high-performance display in a quality package -- and just the right size at a sweet-spot price point. This product has everything you need (and should remain compatible with next-gen computers for years to come) and nothing you don't.

The 91t replaces the old 191t which, at its release, offered the narrow most narrow bezel of any LCD monitor. The 91t improves on the 191t with better contrast ratio and a power supply integrated internally (without increasing the size of the housing.

Features include 1280x1024 resolution via VGA and DVI inputs (cables included) switchable from the SOURCE button on the front panel, enabling you to connect and switch between two computers. For desktop publishing, the monitor can be rotated from landscape to portrait mode and comes with software to rotate your desktop to match the monitor's orientation.

The DVI interface is what makes LCD panels worth buying. The difference is truly striking when switching between the two inputs on the 91t (VGA looks blurry compared to DVI at native resolution). For some, it may be necessary to upgrade your video card in order to use the DVI input (a mere $30 upgrade you can do yourself).

The 19" sweet-spot. Think bigger is always better? The 19" flat panel is the ideal size for all work (including CAD and desktop publishing). Unless you work for NASA, Pixar or manipulate huge, detailed CAD dwgs, the 21" flat panel is way too big and does not offer substantially higher resolution.

In the past 4-yrs, Samsung has invested billions in R&D and it is evident in the quality and features of their current "pro-sumer" product line (flat panels and home cinema displays).

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all cost
Don't be fooled by Samsung's reputation - those days are gone. I have been using 152T for more than 2 years and it was excellent. But this model, in particular, is full of problems. I bought one, and had to send it back for replacement (twice), yet each replacement comes with new defects (unbalanced brightness, noisy panel etc). Imagine: 3 defective units in a row (all brand new), does that give you any idea about its manufacturing quality? I ended up with a refurbished unit from Samsung, which is mediocre in quality (the panel is *not* as clear and as bright as a new unit).

If you want to take the risk, go ahead. But I wouldn't recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but...
...a slight edge to the Viewsonic VP191, which is selling at about the same price point and is also rotatable (a truly priceless feature!).On the Internet though you can find this Samsung at about a hundred dollars less than the VP191.

During the course of my extensive shopping around, I found that while the Samsung has a higher contrast ratio and higher brightness rating on paper, in reality the Viewsonic appears to be of about the same sharpness, and more importantly is significantly brighter! And yes, I did play with the monitor adjustment buttons of both monitors, the maximum brightness setting on the Samsung is equivalent to about 50% brightness on the Viewsonic.Go figure...is Samsung playing fast and loose with its specs?Or is the screen surface of the Viewsonic somehow "brighter" than that of the Samsung's?I'm not sure, but I am sure of what my eyes saw: Viewsonic offers a better picture.

Otherwise, Samsungs do offer terrific bang for the buck.I have many friends who are quite happy with their Samsungs, and I have an old Samsung 17" CRT which has held up well over a couple years' heavy usage. In short, when you compare Samsung monitors to the really cheap 300 dollar off-brands, in my opinion the extra hundred or so you spend for the Samsung is well worth it for most people's uses.

Both the Samsung and Viewsonic easily beat out the Sony LCDs though, even though the Sonys are usually more expensive. This surprised me because I find their TVs are still top-notch.

2-0 out of 5 stars Serious ghosting issues
I bought this LCD monitor because a number of places have given it excellent reviews.I also had a Samsung 191T, which I really liked. However, I needed to get a new monitor to replace that one, and unfortunately, the 910T does not measure up.The problem here is ghosting, and this is not even when you play games with fast moving images. The ghosting is when you just move the mouse cursor across the screen. The mouse arrow smears, and you see something like a vapor trail of mouse cursors. This is extremely annoying. After some research, most places have said that this ghosting is due to the slow 25ms response time on the 910T.However, I remember that my old 191T had the same response time, and this issue was not noticeable at all.Another thing is that the ghosting issue is better when you use the DVI (or digital) line as opposed to the Analog link. When I use DVI, the mouse cursor still ghosts, but it's not as noticeable and bearable to where I'll keep the monitor. However, I'm still very disappointed because the 191T didn't ghost this much in analog mode. One good point is that the colors look very nice on the monitor probably due to the 1000:1 contrast ratio.Another thing is that every thing looks sharper on DVI.For example, when I'm in Windows explorer, the filenames look blurry in analog, but sharper in digital.I guess the moral of the story is that you better have a DVI port in your video card if you buy this monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars In portrait all the time
I've had this monitor for a week and I love it.It's attractive, bright, sharp, and relatively inexpensive. It's the purchase I've been happiest with in a long time.I even ordered it with FREE Super Saver Shipping and it arrived two days after I ordered it.I originally thought that I would switch back and forth between the landscape and portrait modes (which is easy to do with the supplied software), but it hasn't left portrait mode since I put it there.Portrait's just better for every application (web browsing, reading PDFs, working in Word, programming...).I guess it's not better for watching movies, but I don't do that on the computer.I highly recommend trying a monitor that can rotate like this.

So far my father and a friend have seen my monitor and both immediately bought it too.(My father also bought it on Amazon with the cheapest shipping and it arrived within two days.)

I can see one bad pixel on mine, but I think that's not uncommon with large LCDs.It only shows up on a black background, not one white, so it's mostly unnoticeable. ... Read more

Product Description

The Samsung SyncMaster 730b is a 17-inch analog and digital TFT-LCD monitor delivering crisp, clean text and bright, vivid colors. This display offers a 600:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 1280 x 1024 resolution, 160/160 degree viewing angle, scanning frequency of 30-81 kHz horizontal and 56-75 Hz vertical and 0.294mm pixel pitch.

The SyncMaster 730b display offers the option of using either a digital or analog interface for viewing images and text. The Digital Video Interface (DVI) ensures a shaper, cleaner image and a more accurate representation of the original video source. Since video starts out digital in a PC graphics card, the digital output is directly interfaced to the digital input of the LCD panel and always provides the optimum quality image. In addition, no adjustments are required with a digital display, even when randomly changing resolutions. Input connectors for this display include 15-pin D-sub and DVI-D. Available in black, the SyncMaster 730b delivers a maximum of 16.2 million colors. The monitor is Windows Plug and Play DDC 2B compatible. To ensure years of reliable performance, the SyncMaster 730b is backed by a three-year parts and labor warranty, including the backlight. Toll-free, 24/7 support is also available for the life of the display.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fast with shortcomings
The 730B is very bright and responsive, no doubts about that. There is essentially no difference between a CRT monitor and this screen when it comes to speed. Colors are vivid and the screen can be set to be very bright; black is deep and not washed out.

My unit has a rather noticeable vertical gradient (colors are a bit washed out at the bottom, and a bit darker a the top of the screen). The top and bottom edges of the screen also show "arcs" of backlight, which are annoying when watching widescreen movies (the black bands at the top and bottom of the frame are not completely black).

The viewing angle is acceptable horizontally (a yellow cast is detectable when off-center) and vertically (a darkening is detectable when off-center); viewing does extend to the claimed 160 degrees, but at the expense of image quality.

Unlike what Samsung says on its website, this model does not come with a DVI cable in the box (at least in the USA), only with a VGA cable.

Recommended as a "value" screen, but only when backed by a substantial price rebate. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid Monitor
I really like this monitor.I've had it for three months now and I have to say it performs even better than I expected. The picture is clear and bright, there were no dead pixels, and it was very easy to set up.I didn't have to hassle with a mail-in-rebate and it looks very nice with my Compaq computer.

I even got a discount on some other computer accessories off a flyer in the box.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product at a great price.
I was originally introduced to the Envison brand at work, we had a few hundred of them there fro all of the employees, and when it came time to purchase one for myself I asked out IT manager whose I should buy, and he told me Envision. He has purchased other brands with varying levels of success but finds that the quality is better across the board with Envision, he has also had the best luck with Envision customer service. SO based on his recomendation I purchased this monitor and have had great luck with it so far. I will definetly purchase from Envision again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great for Me
I purchased this monitor a month ago from another store (I should have gotten it here because this is a better price) and the salesman told me it was a brand new model so I am not sure about the other review. It has worked great for me so far.

I don't do a lot of gaming but I have had no problems with surfing the Internet or any of the Office programs I use a lot. It has been very bright and clear and I would definitely say it is nicer than the "name brand" I use at work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor
I've used flatscreen monitors on my Dell laptop and use a Dell LCD at work.I'm using it at home, replacing a 17" CRT.This monitor is far superior to all these.More vivid colors and as expected a larger actual image compared to the CRT.The viewing angle is much better than the other LCD's I've used.I can view the screen from 45 degrees to the side with minimal loss of image color or clarity. On my laptop, moving just 25-30 degrees to the side and the image is mostly black.

Some reviews have suggested a potential downside is that the height of the stand is not adjustable. However, on my standard computer desk, the height is nearly perfect, and the monitor does tilt through a sufficently broad range in case the desk surface were too low or even tilting down if it were too high.

I'm very pleased with the Viewsonic VX715.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor at a reasonable price
I've been researching and looking at 17" LCD monitors for a month, looking to upgrade from my puny, no-name 15".I'm quite pleased with this little gem.Very easy setup. No dead pixels.I found the adjustment controls much more user-friendly and intuitive than several monitors that were more expensive and didn't necessarily have better picture quality. The white is blindingly true white, not dingy or yellow or washed out, as on many monitors I looked at.Text is crisp and clear, something that's important to me.Colors are rich and vibrant.I feel that the stand is sturdy and stable, and it's the right height for me - not the highest, but definitely higher than some others I'd looked at.And I got it on a one-day only sale price that saved me $50!It doesn't get better than that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, no complaints
I received this monitor for Christmas and I have to say this is the best LCD I have ever seen. It's picture is so crisp and clear, with very brilliant colors. I compared this one in the store with 5 other brands and they don't even come close to the quality of this one. The stand is sturdy, and there are no dead pixels.

ViewSonic is the best.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor design, good image quality
I bought a VX715 recently and put it on my desk for personal use.I found the monitor stand is too high, and the its height is unadjustable.I have one dead pixel on my screen.I returned it to the store and bought a Sharp LL-172A instead. The height of the Sharp LL-172A is perfect, image quality is equally as good as VX 715, the menu is even more user friendly than View Sonic, response time is even faster, no dead pixel.Sharp LL-172A is even cheaper than VX 715, I won't recommend VX715 to anyone

5-0 out of 5 stars love this monitor!

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent for the price
It looks like the price has gone up since I got it, so it might not be the same value that it was previously. But the quality is definitely decent.

As I've seen people recommend for other LCDs, you should run this monitor in the native 1280x1024. Otherwise, pixel interpolation will blur the text. If you are using the monitor to play video games, they will almost certainly run at a lower resolution, and thus be interpolated. But interpolation is fine for graphics and video games. It hurts the eyes to look at the interpolation for text, however.

Some people may not want to run at the full 1280x1024, since it makes window widgets and text tiny. So these people will have to settle with interpolation, which make be even worse.

Another person mentioned damage upon arrival of the monitor. I've had no such problem.

The install instructions are skimpy. I'm using this monitor under Linux and I was suprised to find a Linux section in the installation guide. But it was little help. In fact, the technical specification could not be found among the documentation, and I had to go back to Amazon to figure out, i.e., what the horizontal and vertical refresh ranges were so that X11R6 could find the optimal refresh rate of 76Hz.

Interestingly, the box claims compatibility with Macintosh and Solaris, but I definitely haven't tested this for either.

Going from a CRT, I immediately have relief from the flickering that is inherent to CRTs. But my eyes will still have to get used to this monitor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.
I was quite disappointed by the picture quality on this monitor. It was better than my elderly CRT monitor, but nowhere near as crisp as the LCD display on my HP laptop. Also, one of the navigation buttons on the front display was inoperable.

The viewing angle, adjustability, and overall form factor of this monitor was very nice. It's a shame the most important part -- the screen itself -- was so unsatisfactory.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent LCD
with so low price, i can not believe that I can buy so good an LCD. it is so worth it. very clear and crisp. the viewable screen is wide.easy to set up.The Autoadjust fuction makes it very easy to set the LCD to it best performance. The only problem i can find now is that some times during screen saver, it becomes blank, just leaving some lines on the screen, without any other images.I do not know why.but if you use autoadjust fucntion, it becomes Ok instantly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazon Drop Kicked The Product
The monitor itself seemed to be great, but when it arrived the box was barely taped shut. Then, when I opened it, the monitor box was already opened and all the styrofoam was demolished. Upon further inspection, it was clear Amazon ordered the monitor from another online merchant and then repackaged it. Unbelievable. Do not order large items from Amazon. It's been almost four weeks since I sent it back and I've still not heard a single word about it. Oh yea I had to buy the monitor locally since it was a gift. Now this monitor is going to cost me $1600 thanks to amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent LCD
Refresh rates on this LCD are awesome, even from games. It runs 1280x1024 at 75Hz, with an extremely sharp and colorful picture.Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the best!
I bought this beutiful peace of art about 6 months ago, probably even longer ago, and it is STILL one of the best CRT Monitors out there. What else would you need then a 22 incher? I did have some shipping problems, but I was delighted when I recieved this product. It's easy to setup and adjust (just plug it in!). There will be an installing thing when you first open up the computer. Just put in the CD which came with the monitor and install it. You don't even have to install the drivers from the CD but I recommend it. Goto viewsonic.com for the latest drivers if you're having any problems getting it to work, but that's a highly unlikely thing to occur. I can't tell you enough how nice this product is. I've had NO PROBLEMS at all from day one. I've actually left the monitor screen on for 2 weeks without closing it and it still works fine. It's been more then 6 months since I got this thing and it's working in mint condition. The monitor itself is very nice looking, but its pretty damn big as well so make sure you have enough space on the table for it before you buy it! The demensions are posted on viewsonic.com. And if you have to choose between the white and black version, get the black one. It looks so much nicer then the white one, and it's the exact same price. I love this monitor =)

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice...except when you need service.
My brand new Monitor...less than 6 months old...starts smoking and spitting sparks...then little flames come out of the top....If I was not home...I am sure my house would have caught fire.

So...I send this thing back...it cost me 82.00 to have it packaged and shipped by UPS (Viewsonic won't pay me back)

Viewsonic will replace it...but...since they don't have one in stock...I have to wait. All the resellers have plenty in stock but the factory is out?
I have been waiting over 3 weeks now.

Also I have to call them to get this information. I would think after they promise a 5 day turnaround once they recieved the old on...they would at least give me an e-mail to explain the delay.

If I was not so impressed with the product (when its not on fire)...I would tell everyone to stay away from this company. ... Read more
