Shadow mask is noticeable around edge of screen
My only complaint regarding this monitor is that the when viewed closer than 3ft or so, the shadow mask is particularly noticeable around the edge screen giving the image a pixilated look.In the middle of the screen the image is exceptionally sharp and bright. I'm trying to decide now if this is something I can get used to or if I'll look to find a replacement for this monitor.Other than this issue I'm very happy with the monitor.

Better than AG
First I bought a Samsung 1100DF (21") it had nice specs .20 mm dot pitch, but the picture was not acceptable: it was dark and blurry, so I returned it back to Amazon.
Next, (figuring that I need to spend more to get an acceptable 21" CRT) I got aNEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FP2141SB-BK 22", this one had those annoying AG lines and the picture was distorted.It also had a poor focus in the corners and a useless "superbright" mode which just dulls and blurs the picture IMHO. Supposedly this is one of the best AG monitors out there.
Then I thought: seems like I have to cash out for an LCD since I cannot find an acceptable 21" CRT. Well, in order to get one of these with the same viewable (20"), you have to spend at least 900 'rubles'.So I decided to give the G220f a chance.Well, let me tell you I am finished buying.This is as good as it needs to be.It's sharp, clear, and bright enough, and NO AG lines (being it's not an AG monitor of course)
Right now I have it running at 1600x1200@ 85 Hz.And I am happy with the picture.Had to do some geometric adjustments first to straighten the corners, but that's OK.

If you read one of the reviews below, a user complains that his is grainy. Well perhaps it's grainy if the he has it set at 800x600, in that case he should have bought a 14" or a 13" dumb terminal screen with that cool green text, nice and sharp at his preferred resolution.It would be ridiculous to buy this size display and then low ball the resolution.

Anyway, until LCD's are as fast as CRT's and have comparable price tags, I recommend this thing to anyone looking for a large display.Be you an editor, a gamer, a grapher or a lamer, you cannot go wrong here.

One thing I would change is the fact that the monitor cable is hard wired to the monitor.However, in the unlikely event that any part of the cable goes, I will have no inhibition of popping out the guts and re-soldering (but that's just me).

Couldn't ask for a better monitor
I had honestly never heard of View Sonic before I went comparison shopping for a new monitor. This model came up from time to time, and even though it's a little pricey, I decided to go for it. I have no regrets and plenty of praise. The resolution is marvelous and it was so easy to set up. This is a value at any price!

great monitor and great service
When I first received my monitor, the black level saturation was extremely poor. I did this by comparing the monitor with another older monitor that I have. Called up tech support and after exchanging a few emails later, I got my RMA number. I shipped out my monitor as soon as I received my Fedex shipping label and a week later, I received a new monitor from Viewsonic. Sure enough, the new monitor has really good black level saturation and the colors are really good. Right now, I am really happy with my monitor and the tech support has been really excellent in my case.

Very Happy With Mine
I looked at alot of 21" monitors before I settled on this one and I have to say that I am extremely pleased with it. I looked at both trinitron and diamondtron monitors and didn't like what I saw at all. I use trinitron monitors at school on a regular basis and have never gotten used to the lines running across the screen 1/3 from the top and bottom. Aside from the "grille lines" I found the colors were too vivid and true whites seemed to have a slight reddish brown hue to them. So I knew I wanted the best shadow mask monitor I could find. This is it. While the picture isn't truly flat, the screen is; if you sit too close you can see the curve of the picture but as long as you sit 12" from the screen you will see a crisp, flat image, and the colors are wonderful. The picture gets a 5 star rating, the monitor overall gets 4 stars because of 2 things; 1 the cord that connects to the computer is permanently connected to the back of the monitor. This is bad because if the cord breaks you need a new monitor. 2. This thing is HUGE!!! The footprint isn't any bigger than that of my old 21" but the height is, if you have a computer cart like me with a shelf over the top of the monitor you will need 30" plus to fit it in. A decent monitor for ordinary user
If the monitor is e773c, it is not that bad as the the previous review stated. In fact, if you go to dell.com you will find this monitor is still on sale. I bought this monitor with my dell PC and it works great as it should. You DO NOT need to resize it every time. It has richer color than a LCD monitor as all CRT monitors do. Of course, you always get what you paid for. But for the price and performance, I will give it 5 stars.

dell 17inch monitor
I was very dissapointed with the style and appearance of this item and would like to return it,but did not because it is to heavy for me to lug around, and I did not save the packaging. This is a very old monitor, the color is dark, it has to be resized each time I sign on. I emailed the seller for tech support and got no response as yet. Extremely clear
This monitor is not flat, it has an internal curvature with a glass screen that makes it appear flat.Some people complain about this, but it really does look flat.This is the only monitor that I have ever seen that makes me happy to look at, every time.When people see it they say "wow, nice monitor."No other monitor that I have seen comes close to the initial appearance of this monitor.
The refresh rates, however, have something to be desired.This is unacceptable to me.

Great Monitor
There is not a slight curve as the other reviewer noticed. The reason why he thought there was a curve is probably in his video card and his display properties within Windows or the display properties that the monitor itself has. But there isn't a curve in the internal screen. I've had this monitor for six months now and it works great.I am looking to buy another one like this so that I can have dual monitors.I would recommend.

Good value, but not for the perfectionist
I bought this monitor to replace my old viewsonic that died on me.I mostly use my computer for browsing and gaming.After about a month of use I must say I'm dissappointed.First off, the screen isn't actually flast.If you follow the out edge, there is a slight curve.The glass covering the screen is flat, but the actualy screen is not.The monitor is nice and bright and colors looks good, but the screen flickers at any refresh rate over 60hz at high resolution which is a huge let down.At 60hz it feels like my eyes are bleeding when I looks at a white screen.The resolution range is fine though.Another complaint I have is the shadow I can see behind the screen.A sort of wavy pattern that gets annoying and visible when the screen is dark.I would recommend this monitor for anyone who doesn't need super high resolutions or isn't nit picky about monitors. ... Great product, weird reviews from others.
Alright first off let me respond to the other reviews.

1.) The guy that was disappointed with his Sony CRT did not complete the proper setup or didn't know what he was doing.

2.) The second review (which is a review of the N5) simply states what most know. If you NEED features that the N5 has, then it is worth the extra $50ish dollars. Otherwise, don't worry about what he states.

Alright, I setup this Viewsonic N4 in a retail enviroment with 30+ monitors both LCD and CRT. I looked at the output for tens of hours a week. Take it from me, it is a GREAT product and it does exactly what it supposed to do--with flying colors. The product does such a great job that I sold hundreds of them to customers who could see the quality of the output.

I don't what else to say past that except during 8-9 months of 24/7 use it NEVER failed. They do get hot, but not enough to burn you as was stated. Overall a great product, one which I own personally now after having seen what it could do. Always beware of reviews from people who won't read directions or who test an item for all of 30 minutes before returning it.

Awesome product!
I have no idea why the two recent reviews of this product have been bad, but I think its an awesome product!I am using my Sony 21" as my TV and this product has a great picture.I just recently started using the S-Video cable and its AWESOME!Great product!

N4 - Nice try but ...
Have a spare Sony 15" flat screen CRT monitor, in good shape. Wanted to view VHS/DVD entertainment w/o adding another screen to my small space, so ordered and installed the N4.

The device produced images on the monitor, but the output quality was so poor, and the configuration via remote control and onscreen display was so fussy I decided not to keep it and returned it to Amazon.

No resolution setting or scan rate change improved the screen output (640x480 to 1024x768). Most disappointing was playing back a high-quality DVD (Twin Peaks box set) which uses full screen framing and having the image distorted (compressed horizontally giving skinny figures) no matter how I changed the settings on the N4, the DVD player or the Sony monitor. Infuriating! A VHS tape played more-or-less OK. Used the RF inputs for VHS and DVD and the S-Video inputs for DVD w/o seeing any improvements. Sound quality was OK -- it's just passing on the audio signal.

By way of comparison, playing the same DVD in the combo drive on my Dell laptop w. 14.1" LCD screen and DVD software gives a beautiful, full-screen high-resolution image, great sound and all the rest.

N4 setup was straightforward but printed troubleshooting information was very sparse and of the "check connections" variety. Nothing to help me solve the horizontal distortion.

It's too bad -- a device like this that really works would be a boon. I should have guessed this item was not a success given the small number of reviews and low rating.

Do not buy this product
This is my review for the N5 but I think it will do some good when it comes to buying an N4:whatever you do, do not buy the N4.

Now this is the one review you should listen to.Seriously.I bought the N4 because it was cheaper and I didn't care about closed caption or parental controls, wow, big mistake.The next day I returned it and got the N5, best choice ever.The N5's picture blows away the N4's, true it doesn't have surround sound support, but to me that's no biggie.The picture is crisp (when one sits a few feet back) and looks very close to that of a TV.My only problem is that when using this with a computer doing a VGA pass though, the computer screen is a but blurry, it's because of this that I strongly reccommend a dual input monitor.I'm running it on a 21" sony and it looks excellent.Also it supports wide screen, which is a plus for all us home theater buffs.In short, the N4 felt cheap and worked just that way.It also got extremely hot, too hot to touch, and did all this while skipping frames attempting to process Xbox.

Great Color
I first noticed this monitor at one of those computer stores where they place all the monitors on the same shelf.This one really stood out for color and very sharp focus.I watch movies and play some games and I haven't noticed any ghosting.The only thing that I wish I could do is rotate the screen for word processing (kind of a minor complaint).Otherwise this is a very good monitor and the price is good for a 19 inch LCD.

Colors are washed out
This monitor is way too light (everything appears faded out), and adjusting the contrast and brightness controls don't help.No matter what brightness contrast setting is used, everything is either way too dim & gray or way too light.The monitor's brightness & contrast controls seem to have the exact same function - contrast setting appears to actually be adjusting the brightness and nothing seems to be actually changing the contrast.This will probably be returned soon, unless someone can tell me how to get the correct brightness/contrast setting. ... Great long-term investment
I highly recommend this monitor as one who has used it 8 hours a day, five days a week, for the last 18 months. The image quality is superb and has not diminished. I've found the monitor great for general publishing use, including a lot of time in Photoshop (graphics & color-intensive) and FrameMaker (B&W/text intensive). I use it at 1162x864 and there is no flicker. I previously used a Sony Trinitron, and I rate this twice as good as the Sony.

Bright, clear picture with awesome resolution...

buy another brand -- any other brand
I bought a Samsung 172N six months ago and will now be on my third unit.The first one lasted less than two weeks before permanent vertical lines began appearing.Fortunately it was within the retailer's return period so they gave me a new unit.The second one lasted until recently, when it instantly and irrevocably started displaying bands of vertical lines, and became super-bright with severe lagging and ghosting.There was no apparent cause for either problem.Most unfortunate of all, Samsung treats warranty/customer service requests as a game.I have been without a usable unit for two weeks, and still have no idea when the refurbished replacement unit will be shipped.Repair is not a good option since they only do repairs at one facility in the entire U.S., and can give no estimate whatsoever as to how long the repair will take.In my multiple conversations with them not one employee has expressed any degree of surprise that two brand new LCD displays have had these kinds of problems.

Gorgious Display
This is a brilliant 17" monitor...as good as any in it's class.The only CRT I've seen looks as good (as this monitor's native resolution) is a Trinitron based montior.The others look dull by comparison...including Samsung's 17" and 19".There might a few advantages for a CRT, but this technology is simply the best in my opinion.

This thing is awesome.I use a Samsung 171v at work.When my home monitor started to die, I thought a 171v would be nice.I started looking at all the models Samsung makes so a visit to there website was in order.This helped explain the letter part of the model number.'N' is for narrow.'V' is vesa compliant wall mount, which they all appear to be.S is slim and T is thin.These last two are essentially the same except one is VGA input only, the other is VGA/DVI.

I would recommend any Samsung LCD display, but I especially like the 'N' due to the narrow frame around the display.

This thing is awesome.I use a Samsung 171v at work.When my home monitor started to die, I thought a 171v would be nice.I started looking at all the models Samsung makes so a visit to there website was in order.This helped explain the letter part of the model number.'N' is for narrow.'V' is vesa compliant wall mount, which they all appear to be.S is slim and T is thin.These last two are essentially the same except one is VGA input only, the other is VGA/DVI.

Good no-frills, inexpensive LCD
I've had a BenQ FP731 for about six months with no problems. I bought it at about $300 and it had the best specs for the price at the time and that still seems to be the case. It is only 9 Lbs, which is good if you're travelling and it has a clean appearance and feels solid.

It works well pivoting to portrait view--if you change your video card settings or install Pivot Pro software.

There is essentially no manual, but the default settings are pretty good. I recommend it if you need to save money. IMO, high-end Sony monitors are the best, regardless of specifications, but you would spend 3 times as much as for this decent low-end monitor.

Great value for the money
With the purchase of this monitor, I finally joined the LCD monitor club. I think it is time for everyone to join the club and what better way than with this monitor ! Great price. Great quality. Takes only a couple of minutes to set up. After the computer is switched on, it does an auto adjust and that is it.

I didn't give it 5 stars only because I didn't want to make it look like this is the best among the best. I have seen better LCD monitors than this. The images are a weeny little distorted - like letters typed using a type writer on a bad sheet of paper. This may not be the choice for someone who works on a computer 8 hrs a day. But this is the perfect choice for a home computer.

I hooked this Monitor up to my G5 Power Mac and wow nice screen and right now it working great. Theis is a very good monitor and I would say for the price go and get it you will not be sorry.

Excellent Buy
Works very well, I have not seen the brightness issue some reviews have mentioned, perhaps they have not installed the updated plug & play driver that comes with the device??The instuctions for installing did not exactly match my PC but was able to work through it without a problem and the driver did make a difference.

This one has it all!!!!!!!!!!
This LCD PC Monitor/TV/FM tuner has every thing you need to set up your own little entertainment center.
Hook up your DVD, VCR, satellite, speakers and more, all at the same time.
I read the ratings before buying and despite the low ratings I decided to purchase it anyway.
Amazon.com has a great return policy therefore I had nothing to lose.
I have been using it as a PC monitor mostly, but have hooked it up to my satellite.
It has worked great thus far.

Picture is great. Sound isn't
Like the previous reviewers, I had problems with sound and freezing of monitor. My remedy is to use external sound system. Since I have connected VCR/DVD and cable box to my stereo, I no longer use the monitor for audio. I also use my cable box to change channels, so I don't use the remote either except for turning monitor on and off. Another suggestion is not to use wireless network with this monitor or near it. The problem with monitor started when I was using my laptop on wireless network and the monitor froze and I could not turn it off without unplugging it. Because this monitor is designed to be used with a pc, it seems strange that it won't work with a wireless network.

Monitor Freeze
I really like The price also great features. one thing I don't likethe monitor freeze up on the tv viewing, when this happen you loss control of the unit you have to shut it off by unplug or if you have a surge breaker power switch. I return theLCD Monitor/Tv for a replace to my surprise the secondone had the same problem.

I am on the fence.
This is my first flat screen TV/monitor.I use it mainly for television viewing and have owned it for almost two months. The price is right, comparatively speaking.The weight and footprint is good.Getting the plugs in for initial set-up is an adventure because of the location of the connections.

The picture is not always sharp and the speakers on my unit give out often. The sound either gets "tinny" or fades out.Worse yet, the remote stops working during the course of using it and to add insult to injury, the only way to turn off the unit is to unplug it.This is infuriating because it happens every day that I use it (this is not my main t.v. so I have other options.)Still it was hard for me to beat the price. ... You need to do some seting up
All you folks need to take a step back.. I am using 1024/768 @ 72hz and have run at 60/70/72/75 without any problems...and no changes
Best to set you Display Adapter at Optimal.. but you can force just about any of the listed ones...

First you need the latest drivers from the Samsung web-site..
Then you need to install both utilites on the installation CD...
One helps you set-up and center the display, the other sets up the automatic refresh and color correction...
The supplied sofware will also automaticaly re-set the display and refresh rate for games and anything else...
One is "Magic Color" there are fast-color, refresh and centeringcorrections available with one button, automaticallywith a customizabele setting on one...

Lastly, if you are running XP, go to the Windows site and download a Power Tool..."Clear Type Tuning"...it REALLY helps with ANY LCD...(and some CRT's too)

All the problems I see listed are when using the Native Windows drivers...

Nice construction poor color reproduction
The monitor is ultra bright - thats good.
The monitor I received had odd color reproduction.
Photos of grasswere WAY too green. Blue jeans were TOO BRIGHT blue - no matter how much I fiddled with it I could not get accurate color reproduction.

If you want very BRIGHT color - this is the monitor for you.

My prior LCD monitor was a viewsonic which had excellent color reproduction... but needed repair 3 times!

I am returning this monitor and will try a Dell and NEC to see of they are any better.

The search goes on.

First LCD
I shopped around and almost went with another, a small 14' model, I'm glad I didn't.I only have previous CRTs to compare this with, but from this newbie, I can tell you the picture is outstanding.I do school/work things, some developmentI highly recommend.Cnet gives it a good review also.

Finally!
After battling with a CRT for years, I am thrilled to finally have an LCD monitor.

Installing the monitor was very easy.The monitor auto-adjustments make the images fit perfectly onto the screen, and the picture is great under default settings.Both clarity and brightness are remarkably better than the CRT I owned previously.I've also carefully scanned the monitor for dead pixels (apparently this is a common problem with LCDs), but mine appears to be quite flawless.

Although other reviewers have complained about the fact that it only rotates vertically, but I can't really understand why that's a problem.Typical use of a monitor does not require frequent adjustments, and the monitor is light enough that twisting the entire thing from side to side is quite easy.

I also like the buttons that several other reviewers complained about.I think that they enhance the sleek design of the monitor, and I don't think that they're hard to read/see when there is adequate lighting.

I cannot really reply to the complaints about customer service, since everything with the monitor has gone so smoothly.

High quality monitor!
Wow.I just bought a new eMachine computer and decided to treat myself to a new monitor as well.Several LCD and CRT monitors were on display, and the Samsung jumped out from the rest.The resolution was amazing, and the brightness was outstanding (more on this later.)A rebate was available as well, so that sealed the deal.
After taking this home and setting it up...a plug and play situation that didn't require the install CD or reading the manual...I discovered how bright this screen is.On1-100 scale, I have the brightness turned down to 35, and it still outshines the CRT on my old computer.
Drawbacks: the stand has limited adjustability...the monitor can only tilt, not raise or lower in height.You WILL need to read the instructions to insure the monitor stand is stable and assembled correctly.Also, the black trim and black monitor buttons mean you can't read them.Again, a small point.
