Not cheap, but what a valuable machine
Macs have never been for those with tight-wallets, but after having struggled with several low-price PCs from various companies I realize that you really do get what you pay for.

I was first drawn to the PowerBook line-up because of its simple look--come on, you have to admit it looks great.And not only does it look good on the outside, but the amazing OS X (that's pronounced oh-ess-ten) as well as the suite of included software, from iPhoto to iTunes to iChat, and the seamless way it all comes together is a wonderful thing.

Mine was not perfect, I will admit that--the sensor on the lid which told the computer it was closed and should sleep stopped working after 6 months, but Apple was amazingly fast at repairing the problem.

There's not much else I can say besides this--if you need a portable laptop, the PowerBooks are all just amazing.And the iBooks are also worth checking out.

Go to an Apple Store, have a rep show you what a Mac can do, and see what I mean.

Great Computer - too bad about the side ports
I love my new powerbook! The only thing I really don't like is the ports being on the side. The old titaniums had the ports on the back behind a flimsy door, so I understand why they moved them. But now they are on the side and get in the way. It is difficult to use a connected mouse in the usb port because it now takes more tabletop space than it did before. However...it is a FABULOUS computer and the ports on the sides is a minor inconvenience.

short battery life and weak wireless internet connection
It might be because of the heavy alumnium frame or just not that good of a Airport antenna signal. My dad's pc laptop can be as far away as 175 feet while my powerbook cant be farther than 40 feet. Maybe it is interferiance but this is just pathetic. The battery doesn't last all that long, at best nearly 4hours. This is my first Mac and I'm not all that impressed. I have no choice in this though, it is required at my school that I have a g4 laptop; my major is in graphic design. Do not use Bluetooth it sucks up more battery than you can imagine! Also, I hate those mice with no buttons that Apple insists on sticking with, so I got a awesome optical mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel. I give this laptop a 4/5 rating because despite its flaws it is a great computer with all of the Adobe programs I run, like Illustrator Photoshop InDesign CS. I would prefer to have a G4 desktop computer but I need for doing my assignments at home and at school.

Perfect for everything!
I am a long time Windows user and I finally decided to try out a mac to see what all the fuss was about.After two days of use, I am in love.I also have some relatives that were only Windows user but drueled over my laptop.

Some Points I love about it
- when I turn off the room light, the laptop LCD dims and keys light up (AWESOME!)
- when I press FN+F9, I can see ALL the windows that are open.F11 and I can hide everything on my screen (very smooth and very useful).If I'm playing a game, I can hide it from my boss with one F11 button press.
- Do spywares not exist for the mac?I seem to get no popups
- Doesn't seem to crash as much as Windows.After a week, I have never had to force quit a software or reboot.
- everything is just so much more simpler (not too much going on on the screen.

Bad Point
- not many use it so hard to get any help or suggestions on it (only online).
- won't run many of my favorite programs like (Doom3, Robodemo, etc.)

One great laptop!
This is probably the best laptop I have ever used or seen. The 1.33 ghz G4 is amazing! It blazes through anything you throw at it. The screen is bright and crisp. The bottom does get warm but not as hot as some WIndows Mac bashers would have you believe. This laptop also has some of the best battery life on any laptop as powerful as this one. the aluminum enclosure is beautiful and will braw ohhs and ahhs from anyone in the office. the apple on the outside of the case lights up for anyone who doesnt know this. ... A truly innovative machine
This is HP at its finest. An affordable notebook with lots of cool media features. Its beautiful design and widescreen add to the fun. We use it wirelessly in the living room to surf the web while watching tv or listening to music. The dv1000 comes with iTunes software, so we ripped all our CDs and now have all our music saved to this notebook. With an RCA cable hooked up to our stereo A/V receiver, we now have access to all our music without CDs. no6000 screen problems
I just bought two nc6000 and one showed problems with the screen as soon as a week after purchasing. For nine days was under repair but the machine was returned as hp service could not find the problem with the screen as it is random. Contacting HP service is difficult if not impossible out of office hours for those of us not willing to waste hours trying to get support at our jobs. It performs its intended purpose well.
This product does what it says it will do, it provides modest, easy to use security in an office setting.It is not designed to make your laptop an immovable anchor.It simply prevents your equipment from walking off while remaining as unobtrusive as possible.It's kind of like the club people use in autos, it won't stop the person determined to get your equipment at any cost, but it does make your equipment less attractive to the casual thief.

Makes me feel safe when I leave my laptop unattended.
This lock is very easy to use. the only two things you need to carry around are the key and the cable itself. Tie your laptop up wherever you go, especially the library! I live on the ground floor, and my desk is right next to the window. So I keep my laptop locked up even when it's at home, so that any would-be burglar would have a tough time breaking the window and taking off with my notebook. Although, if he really wanted to, he could probably get a pair of wirecutters powerful enough to cut the cable.

All in all, this cable makes me feel secure against casual thieves and I recommend it for all laptop users.

cables are not theft proof
As most should know, cables are not always the answer to locking your assets. A determined thief will not let a 1/4 of an inch metal cable stop him from getting what ever pleases him. All it takes is small tool called a CABLE CUTTER! For one with a strong hand, it will only take seconds before the cable is cut in two. So before you go on and buy a cable, BEWARE! I strongly recommend anti theft alarm devices, they may be more expensive, but will surly save you long term. You may already see them appearing in electronic stores, just ask any employee where you might find one.

Overall a nice machine--except for the fan noise
I've had this laptop for about 4 months now, and the overall performance has been as expected for a Pentium 4 machine.
One serious downside though is the fan noise. For some reason I expect laptops to be quiet, but this one is not. The fan runs constantly, and is quite loud. I suppose this is necessary when using all the capabilities of the P4, but for normal web surfing and such "light duty" tasks, it is not. I think HP could have designed in a smarter fan speed controller, so that it only sounds like a vacuum cleaner when the CPU is really getting a workout (gaming and such). I feel it was a cop out on the part of the HP designers not to include a smarter fan speed controller.
Other than that, I think it's one of the best values out there. The display is great, as is the built-in numeric keypad, and the included software can't be beat.

Very good notebook
Got this to because of the integrated wireless card to use all around the house.Connection is great, speed is awesome and display is good.As said in other reviews, it is heavy, gets hot and the battery life is not for extreme mobile usage.I have watched several movies and burned CD's and I have yet to notice any significant lag time.The speakers are better than most notebooks, but not as good as I expected from Harman Kardon.One feature I would have liked was a second headphone jack, but I can live without it...lol.Overall, I would recommend it as a good notebook if you are buying it for the size of the screen.Otherwise I would recommend looking at Toshiba or Sony.

Works great love it. Got it from HP.com though for financing. Ran bout $700 cheaper than Dell's XPS Notebook. If I had the cash I would go for an Alienware. But my Hp is doing good. Got it for gaming and graphics work.

Great laptop. Nice 17inch screen
Was looking for a desktop replacement pc for my home. Also wanted to use it to watch movies in the den. It is a bit heavy, but what do you expect with a 17inch screen. With the T2862 Desktop PC, eMachines targets entry-level and undemanding consumers who want a desktop computer but can't justify the price of a high-end model and probably don't need one anyway. Featuring a cost-effective yet reasonably powerful CPU, minimal memory and mediocre 3D graphics performance, the unit is not designed for a top-level business environment or gaming den. But if word processing, personal finances, email and Internet surfing and CD burning are your priorities, the eMachines T2862 is a sensible and extremely affordable solution.

Processor
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Many entry-level desktops utilize "budget" processors such as an Intel Celeron, and that is indeed the case with this model. But this particular processor is a new and recently enhanced version of the venerable Celeron, nicknamed the Celeron D and carrying 256 KB of Level 2 cache and a 533 MHz system bus for perceptibly faster performance than Celerons manufactured prior to 2004. This is the second fastest Celeron currently on the market, a 2.66 GHz version that doesn't approach the raw data-churning speed of a high-end Pentium 4 but certainly holds its own against lower-end Pentiums and AMD Athlons.

Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. eMachines has partnered this unit's processor with 256 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM main memory, the minimum recommended allotment for a modern PC. Thusly, the eMachines T2862 is not ideal for demanding multitasking sessions or ultra-complex applications in its stock form, though users may upgrade the memory (at additional cost) to a whopping 2 GB.

Video
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). A graphics controller with "dedicated" video memory is preferable to a controller that "shares" the system's main memory, as it better handles complex procedures. The eMachines T2862 is equipped with an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 video controller that is integrated on the motherboard and shares 64 MB of the system's main memory. Thusly, the unit is not intended for anyone who regularly works or plays with demanding 3D animations such as those found in the latest high-end games, unless they first purchase and install a separate graphics card. Sound
Audio is produced via an AC 97-compatible chip integrated on the motherboard. AC-97 is today's most accepted entry-level PC audio standard. Optical Drive
An optical drive is essential in today's computing world. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs.
