5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome little speakers
I bought the SBS270s just as travel speakers to use when I go on vaction.I hook them up to my FM/AM protable CD player.I tell you these little speakers sound awesome. They reproduce clean highs and good lows. They are a good all around 2.0 speaker system.I can't believe the sound that comes out of such small speakers. For the price you can't go wrong. I hear people talking about buzzing sounds when you turn them up. I havn't had that problem. It might be the way they have them hooked up.So if your looking for good speakers for your mp3, cd player or laptop get these.

4-0 out of 5 stars SBS 170 are worth the price.
These are great speakers. They have a mellow & very pleasing sound. Lower frequencies (110Hz) could be stronger/lower, but then the company does offer a 3-piece system for the same price. Dell Computer offers them as well, suggesting they are higher quality and from a reputable company. Salesman at CompUSA told me speaker systems running less have a more inferior & tinny sound, compared with these. Probably so. They ARE 10 watts of output, 5 watts per channel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great speakers!
I am pleased with these speakers.I got them from Amazon for $19.99 and they are perfect for giving PowerPoint presentations on my laptop. They also have pretty impressive sound for playing MP3s.I was surprised by the volume and quality of the sound, especially for the price.Highly recommeded.

4-0 out of 5 stars These speakers are well made for certain areas
I purchased these speaker at walmart for 20$ they sound decent depending on what you want you want to use them for. There not made to be loud although they can sound fairly loud when playing music or dvds, or even games. When you turn the speakers up all the way they tend to make a type of rattling sound/buzzing sound. So if your wanting loud speakers dont buy these.Although they do sound good for instant messgaing music, things that dont require alot of bass or really high pitch. But these speakers are worht the 20$ for your tipical computer uses.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't play loudly
The speakers have a rating of 5 watts RMS, not ten as stated above. The sound is decent only at the lowest of levels - at least on my computer. They can't play loudly without considerable distortion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific laptop, but go with a custom configuration
My T42 is the third ThinkPad I've owned.ThinkPads are a bit more expensive than most other brands (except Sony), but well worth it.They have excellent build quality, the most comfortable keyboards of any laptop, and excellent customer support (the few times I've needed support, it was easy to get through to a real human on the phone who could help me, and the one time a part wasn't working perfectly, they overnighted a replacement to me).

Before purchasing this T42, I purchased an S- series Sony VAIO comparably configured, which cost $300 more than the T42.The VAIO had a brighter display than the ThinkPad, and was even smaller and lighter. It was also more stylish. But the VAIO's display had a narrower viewing angle, meaning if you tilt the screen or turn the laptop even just a little bit, the display gets much harder to read. The VAIO's keyboard was not as comfortable as the ThinkPad's.And the VAIO's fan was noisy and always on, whereas the ThinkPad's fan is whisper quiet. So I returned the VAIO.

If you want to buy a T42, I suggest you not limit yourself to this particular configuration.Instead, decide what you want the T42 to have, and then look for the configuration that comes closest to what you want.

The first thing you'll need to decide is whether to get a T42 with a 14" or 15" display. The tradeoff is that the 15" is nicer, but makes the laptop about 1 pound heavier (though still lighter than similarly equipped laptops from Dell, Gateway, etc).

Most people understand the role of processor speed, RAM, and size of hard drive. But you may not know that the speed of the hard drive is an important variable that should factor into your decision.

Most desktop hard drives spin at 7200 RPM.In contrast, most laptop hard drives spin at 4300 RPM.This is one reason why laptops feel more sluggish than desktop computers. You can get laptops with hard drives that spin at 5400 RPM, and this makes a noticeable difference. The T42 can be purchased with a 60gb drive that spins at 7200 RPM - same as a desktop computer.I *URGE* you to get a hard drive that's rated AT LEAST at 5400 RPM.Of course, this costs a bit more, but on a limited budget, you can make up for this by choosing a slightly slower processor.Even the slower processors are faster than most of us need for most of the things we use computers for, so you're not likely to notice having a slightly slower processor, but you will definitely appreciate having a faster hard drive.

Another thing you should get on your T42 (or whatever laptop you end up choosing) is built-in WiFi.Even if you don't have a wireless network in your home, chances are you're a short drive from half a dozen coffee shops or libraries that have wireless internet access, and this will only increase in the future.Getting WiFi on a notebook adds about $100 to the cost, and it's DEFINITELY worth it.Once you use it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it, and you'll want to get a wireless network in your home (and they are not very expensive or hard to install - I did it, and I don't know much about networking at all!)

After you come up with your dream configuration for the T42, visit thinkpad.com to find the specific model number of the T42 that comes closest to your configuration, then come back to Amazon and search on that model number to see Amazon's competitive price.

Also, you can call IBM.Whatever price they quote for that specific model, tell them you found a comparably equipped Dell for $300 less and is there any way they can lower their price. In my experience, they will offer you a lower price.

You should also consider the new T43, which will have a faster bus speed and other small incremental improvements over the T42 (but of course it's more expensive).

Good luck with your purchase decision, and enjoy whatever laptop you end up choosing!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, but fan is always on and makes a lot of noise
It is a very good notebook. Slim but durable.

My only problem with it is that the fan is always on.

Since I work at home, the noise level is simply too loud.

I'm returning it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Laptop
Even though IBM sold their pc division shortly after I purchased this machine, I would purchase it still. It is pretty close to the perfect laptop in almost every respect.

It's lightweight yet durable - a machine that is meant to travel. The speed is really good. The screen is really nice, bright and crisp. I picked the 14.1" version of the laptop because I wanted the smallest full featured machine possible and I was not disappointed.

The fingerprint reader is great and easy to use.I have it set up to require a fingerprint scan at boot up for security and from there it will log me into windows as well.I even have different fingers set-up to allow different Windows privileges (admin vs restricted user).

There are a lot of nice little features in this machine that make a big difference.I'm a big fan of the mouse pointer in the on the keyboard and would not know what to do with out it. The extra scroll button for the mouse is really handy as well as the keyboard light built into the screen. The keyboard is comfortable and well laid out.

The software that comes with the machine is very good, especially if you are moving from network to network. For the most part it does a great job of figuring out what environment you are working and configures itself appropriately.

About the only drawback to the machine is the price, but what you pay extra you get back in less aggravation and a better experience with a machine that (if you are like me) use every day.

2-0 out of 5 stars not a real value addition
Folks!! The very purpose of having a laptop gets defeated with this unnecessary add on. If you think you need this then better buy a desktop system and same some real cash.

I do not recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your only computer is a laptop, you need this.
Let's face it: while a laptop computer is convenient, it is also a bit uncomfortable to work on.When you have it at home, you end up elevating and tilting it both for comfort and to help dissipate heat.Often, you attach a standard keyboard and mouse when you're working at home.Once you've done that, you attach a monitor so that, if you have a relatively low work surface, you are not hunched over the screen.

So, after a while, what do you do?To simplify things and get some of the junk off your desk, you start looking at serial replicators and docking stations. The manufacturer of your laptop makes a docking station for about $250.Gulp.You look around some more. Then, you find the Kensington Laptop Desktop for under $40 through Amazon. It's wonderful! Not only did it do everything I wanted it to do for a very reasonable price, but, because it's not laptop specific, when I swap out my current laptop in a couple of years, I won't have to purchase a new, different, expensive, manufacture/model-specific docking station.I love this accessory and so will you. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not secure...please read
Like other reviews, it took me a while to figure it out. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the lock off. I even tried every possible combination! Tech support informed me I had a defective lock, which I understand will happen with any product. Sometimes a bad egg gets put in the basket. Kensington offered to pay for my locksmith charges AND send me a new lock. That was great except this:

I had to get my laptop to the locksmith. I was wondering how I was going to cut the cord. Scissors? Nah, too flimsy. Wire cutters? Maybe, but I'm sure I'll have to saw through it.

It took one snip to cut the cable. Think of this item as a theft deterrent at best. Not secure at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars just to clarify...
Just to clarify the idea behind the kensington lock is not merely to solidly secure the laptop or other valuable electronic item in place. The principle is a theft deterant and if someone tried to remove the lock with force they destroy the laptop as the lock is directly attached to the motherboard, making the laptop useless to the thief...or anyone else for that matter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inconvienent and not secure
I have a Apple Powerbook, and the lock fits, but doesn't seem too snug.Kensington should have provided extra rubber spacers to take up the slack between the lock and the notebook. In addition, the combination arrow is oriented toward the front of the laptop, not upwards, which would have been much more convenient.

The lock and cable seem fairly sturdy, but don't think about leaving your laptop alone using this lock.It takes only 5 minutes to check all possible combinations.

2-0 out of 5 stars Reviews on Laptop locks
http://www.security.org (under Alerts section) gave a poor ratings for this kind of Laptop locks. "Each of these locks can be easily bypassed, which can result in the theft of laptop computers within seconds, and without any forensic trace".Locks such as Kensington ComboSaver, Microsaver and Master Lock including Targus Defcon CL and Compucage Benji.
MacWorld Magazine (May2005) Gave poor ratings to this kind of lock also.
http://www.macworld.com/2005/04/features/macmobility/index3.php

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay quality
I don't fully agree with the other two reviewers. They say how the lock turns and it hides the code line on the table. What about flipping the lock around before you lock it? However, despite the other's not-so-true design problems, I agree that it is a little weak. The cable is very strong, but the lock portion that connects to the computer isn't. I know the slot is small, but why so small that it makes it weak. The point of the lock is to be strong and prevent breakage. I wouldn't say any of the locks are that strong, and this one isn't an exception. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
Very nice overall computer. Only downfalls I think are placement of speakers right where your arms are while typing and lack of RAM.
Other then that this is one sweet machine

I dont know if its a error but mines only got 60gb HD

2-0 out of 5 stars Overheats constantly
Locks up occasionaly when I try to move the mouse or touch the mouse
pad.I have felt a static shock through the speakers on occasion with
this. Also, overheats constantly and will shut down without warning
even when I scale back the CPU speed. Is constantly hot to the touch and
third party programs that will identify CPU tempuratures will not work
because the BIOS doesn't support the driver(s).I find that this
computer will let me send e-mail at best but I bought it for work.Cannot
play any games or any graphic type program where the CPU is near full
load even with the CPU speed scaled back to half speed.I recognized
this problem after about a month or two from purchase and I purchased a
Antec laptop cooler to help but it is getting worse. It shuts down with
no warning about 5-6 times per day and yesterday about 7 times, the
night before that, 10 times.I'm very upset and my retailer won't help me
even
though I paid $400+ for their 3 year service plan.I called them and
asked for a time estimate and they quoted at least a week.I asked if
it could be sooner and they said I should contact Toshiba.Toshiba
wouldn't recognize the overheating issue until I spoke with someone else
and they recommended that I take it in for service. If I have to wait a
week or more with no loner or money compensation, I will be out of work
as my job requires constant deadlines.I'm at a huge loss.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good System but some minor h/w defects
First mistake on my part; I used the system after around 15 to 20 days from the day i received it. I been used to order systems for couple of years with no problems. This is the first time i ever tried toshiba laptop.

When i used it for few times - i found two problems; first - The laptop freezes too many times. second - suddenly the screen goes blank even though power is on & not in save mode. I don't see any software issues but possibly some hardware.

It was too late for me to ask for a refund to amazon & i called toshiba & they are going to fix the problem. I haven't sent it yet but i'm hoping good.

Also, i haven't received any rebates yet after four months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Satellite A75-S229 15.4" Notebook PC
I have owned laptops before and all I can say is Super Fantastic.
This one is IT! You want seamless surfing and instant action. This is your baby! You will be extremely surprised at the efficiency and speed. I would definitely buy this brand over and over again!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this laptop,
I've been doing a lot of video editing with this unit, The software that came with the laptop is ok for my use. 2 hour movie max for the battery. Everything is in working order. No customer service needed so far. Built in card reader is handy. It says 5 in 1 reader. but mine is a 6 in 1. I'm so glad I didn't buy a 17" laptop. This wide screen is plenty. Resolution is sharp and crisp. ... Read more

  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is average in size when compared to other budget-minded desktop PCs. It will provide ample storage space for your family digital photos as well as a large digital audio library--but it's not quite enough for editing digital video from camcorders.
  • Processor: The Intel Celeron D 335 processor might not be as sexy as a Pentium, but it still gets your work done speedily enough. It has a 2.8 GHz speed with a decently fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 256K L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
  • Memory: The 256 MB of installed RAM will get you started, but you'll want to add more to handle any kind of multimedia application and most business productivity suites. This desktop has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
  • CD/DVD Drive: This desktop includes a speedy combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, with 48x write/read and 32x rewrite speed for CDs and 16x read speed for DVDs.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: The SR1410NX comes with a Compaq keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections.
Screen, Graphcs and Sound
The integrated Intel Extreme Graphics video/graphics card (with 64 MB of shared video memory) is adequate for streaming Internet video, but won't be enough for today's demanding immersive 3D games. It also features an integrated audio card and headhphone, microphone, and line-in jacks.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, the SR1410NX has two 5.25-inch external bays (one available), one external 3.5-inch bay (available) and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied), and three PCI slots (two available). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:

  • 5 USB 2.0 ports (1 in front, 4 in rear) for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 in front, 1 in rear)
  • 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
  • 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Norton Internet Security 2005 (with 60 days of complimentary updates), InterMute SpySubtract Pro (with 60 days of complimentary updates), Microsoft Money 2005, Quicken 2005 New User Edition, Sonic RecordNow, Apple iTunes, Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition, and MSN Encarta 2005.

Dimensions and Weight
This desktop measures 15.35 x 7.17 x 16.54 inches (HxWxD) and weighs approximately 30 pounds.

What's in the Box
The Presario SR1410NX desktop PC comes with a power cord, keyboard, and scroller mouse. It is backed by a one-year warranty for parts and labor from date of purchase, and it includes 90 days of toll-free software technical assistance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, works 4+ hrs!!
I have an Averatec laptop and it worked 4+ hrs for me. No complaints here. It's thin, less than 1'', and weighs only 1.5 lbs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works OK for me
I get 3 1/2 hours on my IBM T23. You need to set the power management to battery optimized performance by hand, since the computer thinks it's still plugged into the wall. Also, I run the monitor on about half its peak brightness, which extends even the normal battery life.

It's fine, convenient enough, and _slightly_ cheaper per hour than OEM batteries.Rating is 12.8 V, 4.05 Amp-Hours.The expansion option (a second battery unit that mechanically docks) looks clever, although I only have the main unit. This external battery is particularly useful when I do not want to keep a battery in the drive bay.

1-0 out of 5 stars A terrible product!
Only gives under 2 hours of power, the same power u get on oem laptop batteries, at lesser space and bulk.OVER-HYPED advertisement of UP TO 5HR CHARGE.That my friends may be true if you are carrying this LOG, along with your super-mini pda, cellphone, and digicam devices.WHAT A JOKE, if you carry these around with your charger as a LUGGAGE!It's cheap, and you get what you paid for.BE VERY CAREFUL!N-Charge wants to make a quick buck by FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AND INSIDE REVIEWS (providing exemplary comments, see the 5-star reviewer here as proof).DON'T BUY THIS ITEM.GET THE APC UNIVERSAL LAPTOP CHARGER INSTEAD.PCMAG HAS CONFIRMED IT TO WORK, AND WORK FOR UP TO 8 HOURS, LEGIT.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry, only 1 hour of power
The product falls far short of the hype.I have used it with the tiny, 12 inch screen Averatec, and it only delivers one additional hour of computer time.I have to turn the screen brightness as dim as possible, and shut down a few background programs, too.The extra hour is nice, however, as it shifts over to the laptop battery when depleted, without having to shut down to change the laptop battery. This is the only reason the system receives one star.I am going to keep on waiting and watching for an external system that really lasts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Steer away from this product.
The product promises a lot and delivers way short.I had to return 2 batteries because they didn't charge up (blinking light on first, then battery light not showing charge at all). The third one that worked only powered by fully charged laptop for 1.5 hours. That's 1.5 hours of web surfing. That is no where near 5-hours it promised. For the price, you are better off investing in a 2nd laptop battery. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Compatibility Can Be A Problem!
