Very handy, great price
I bought this shredder a couple of years ago for home use -- shredding all those credit card offers and other financial papers the experts tell us never to throw out whole.I've been very pleased with its performance, with no complaints there.I like the compact size of the unit -- very unobtrusive.This littler shredder is a great value, and seems to have held up quite well.

Good While It Worked
Like another customer commented, this machine did an okay job while it worked, but after about nine months of light usage, it died. The first thing to go out was the trigger that turns the shredder on when paper is first inserted. That broke about three months after we got it. There's sort of a manual over-ride switch on it, though, so you could keep it on if you were going to shred a lot of documents. We would have to use this switch to turn it on to shred even one document after the trigger broke. I would see about having it fixed, but it was really loud when it was working, anyway, so I think we're going to spend more money next time to get a better model. I have to admit that it was pretty quick, though, and it didn't have a problem cutting through two or three pages at a time.

Not bad, but there are better
I had this shredder for about 8-9 months before it finally died on me.It does a decent job at shredding five or fewer sheets of paper into 1/4" strips, however; the actual shredding mechanism is not very durable.There are thin metallic disks with serated edges that cut the paper and if one gets out of whack, you are left with an un-shredded area that is (potentially) easily readable.

For about the same price at a warehouse club, I bought a Royal (model 3500, I think) seven sheet, cross-cut shredder that has impressed me from day one.The mechanism is much more heavy duty.This shredder weighs more than the Fellowes and flipping it over shows why.The "teeth" of the Royal shredder are much more substantial and look to be built to last a lot longer than the Fellowes.Another notable difference is in the actual shredding.

For those not familiar, cross-cutting not only cuts the paper into vertical strips, but then cuts the vertical strips into smaller pieces.While the Fellowes FS5 will cut a sheet into around 35 strips, the Royal cuts it into litterally THOUSANDS.You can see how this would improve the "security" and finality of your shredding.

The Royal shredder will also devour your old credit cards - a VERY satisfying experience :-DIt sounds wierd, but once you start shredding, you will start searching for things to shred... credit cards applications... old bank statements... cats...

An excellent no frills shredder
This is simply an excellent shredder! I've been using it at home to shred documents and after approx 400 pages it is still performing flawlessly. Don't even accidentally put a staple in it though, big mistake. Does not perform well on shredding 2 pages in one piece but then again you should separate every page before shredding anyway.

Good first shredder - but some issues
If you're thinking about a shredder, at [a great price] this is a good way to try one. The two quick issues that I have with mine are (1) how noisy it is when operating (though for [the price] I'm willing to put up with the noise) and (2) that it does not cross-cut. That it doesn't cross-cut (makes longdiamond shaped scraps of paper), but just cuts strips leads to two issues.The one that other reviewers mention is that it'd be easier for someone topiece together your shredded documents (I wish those people good luck sinceI shred just about everything now, not just credit card offers and thelike, which leads to a ton of paper strips). My main complaint is thatthese paper strips do not fall to the bottom of a trash can. While thecross-cut pieces are small enough to fall to the bottom unassisted, thelong strips tend to brace themselves against the sides of the trash can.Before you know it, the can is overflowing (but far from full) causing theshredder to jam. You just reach into the can and push down the paper thatis matted up... but this is a little bit of a pain. And so I end up havingto empty the can pretty often. But for [the price]... still hard to beat.

If you really need to be cautious...
Mechanically, this shredder works very well as advertised.After a trial, I've decided to invest in a cross-cut shredder instead; someone who's really determined to get information from your trash could easily enoughpiece these strips together.Granted, one could take further steps--burning, separating into different receptacles-- but is it worth the thebother?

This piece of garbage lasted three months until I started to hear the internal workings of the machine start to grind against each other at which point the shredder literally shredded itself. Paper Wads Up Beyond Shearing Wheels and Blocks Shredder
I have a Fellowes PS-60 powershredder at work, and it works great.I bought this PS60-2 Shredder and have had it at home for six months or so.I don't know why my experience has been so utterly different than the five others who have reported in, the only thing I can think of is that there is a manufacturing defect in mine...in any case, when shredding typical bills and other office paper items, the paper frequently wads up in a wide space just beyond the shears that then narrows to form the outlet into the bin below.Once the wadding process starts, you keep merrily shredding, the wads get tighter and tighter in that space, until the shredder jams. You turn it off, turn over the shredder module, and then take about 15-20 mins to fish out all the wads so it will work again.With trial and error, you can reduce the wadding by placing only perfectly straight paper into the machine, and also by frequently tamping down the shredded paper.The problem is Fellowes dumb design of this one...I am going to call them to try to get it replaced, but thought I would warn others first.

Excellent Machine for Moderate Use
Based on the previous Amazon reviews, I bought one of these new through eBay for about $60.
In a situation similar to a previous reviewer, I put my shredder through heavy use for several days with a large pile of accumulated papers, and can confirm the assessment that "it worked like a champ." In addition to paper, my shredding included several hundred cardboard VHS covers, numerous small magazines with staples, and a few credit cards. I don't find it at all noisy, and is somewhat quieter than some of the machines I've dealt with in an office.
The closest thing to a negative I can find is that the basket fills up very quickly -- a slight issue, since any jamming I've experienced is usually from an over-loaded basket of shreds not allowing new sheets to freely feed from the machine.
I would encourage anyone looking for a moderate-use shredder and no pressing need for anything more secure than strips to consider this machine. I'm not certain I would pay much over $60-75 for it, but if you find it at that price (and at this date, that's not difficult), you will find it virtually flawless, and decidedly an excellent value.

Keep in mind what you're getting
If you're expecting an industrial shredder, you'll be disappointed.This shredder is designed for personal/small office use and does a great job of it.It claims that it can handle up to 12 sheets of regular sized paper at once and it's about right on.

I bought it for home use and don't expect to put it to too much use, but we had saved up a bit of paperwork that we wanted shredded so for the first day or two I really put it through its paces shredding probably close to a thousand sheets of paper.

When you read the directions carefully it claims that you shouldn't do more than 20 to 25 minutes of shredding with the shredder daily.And if you do more than about 10 minutes of continuous shredding the shredder overheats.It doesn't damage the shredder when you do this (though I'm sure it isn't really good for it either), but it has an automatic sensor that will turn it off until it cools down to a usable temperature.

I probably did close to one hour of shredding the first and second days and it ran like a champ.I was a bit hesitant to run some stapled pages through at first but after I tried it the first time and it ate them up like post-it notes I wasn't too worried about it anymore.It didn't have any problems, even though I overheated it a couple of times.

It also recommends that you oil the shredder about once a month.With how much I used it I oiled it a couple of times.Interestingly it says in the instructions that you can use vegetable oil or canola oil to oil the shredder instead of shredder oil.It's probably not as good, but it will save you money.I used it and it worked fine.

The only problem I can really see with the shredder is that it is a bit loud.Never having owned another shredder I can't really compare it to other shredders, but it seemed pretty loud to me.

Overall, I love the shredder.It can't do unlimited sheets at once, but if you're using it for limited daily usage it should work great indefinitely.If you're looking for something along these lines (10 minutes of use a day, roughly), then I highly recommend this shredder.

The best for less ... but do some research.
for security of shredded documents, don't waste your money with the strip cuts shredders. Get a cross cut. This shredder handles 7 sheets in one pass, staples and all, with no problem. it comes with a waste basket. ... if you order it at ... a place that will give you a 110% price guarantee, AND a warranty, then it's a steal.
Get the shredder oil too, this will keep it running at peak efficiency. Paper has dust; this gets into the motor and dulls the blades over time.
Get a warranty if you are doing a lot of shredding, like 30 sheets per day, to protect your investment for an additional 1-2 yrs.
This shredder shreds paper into tiny unreadable pieces of confetti; if you have sensitive documents to shred, then this is the shredder you want.
for the product features, it is the most cost effective model on the market, along with the cross cut PS70C-2, which is a little more..but also worth it.
The strip cut shredders, and the unknown name brand shredders aren't worth a fifth of what they cost, their warranty is poor, their brand reputation is non-existent.
FEllowes has been around for a long time, and has been making affordable, quality home user products for many yrs.
Thus far i have owned this model for a month, have shredded like 1,000 documents, and it still runs like when i took it out of the box...

I owned a shredder before this and it was a cross cut shredder, and when I bought this one, I guess I didn't pay attention to the fact that it wasn't a crosscut shredder. I like the cross cut because the paper is shredded to the point where nothing can be recognized. Good compact home shredder
This shredder performed quite well until my daughter inserted credit card receipts with a penny hidden in the folds. It only shredded half the penny before it died. It WAS a nice desktop shredder that handled all my home shredding needs. I plan to buy another one.

Jammed, and no solution.....
When I first used it i tried to shred 6 papers at a time, which was a mistake... It got jammed in the middle of the papers. When I tried to reverse it, it went for about 1mm then got jammed again, tried foreward, jammed, backward, jammed. Tried for about 3 times, then I gave up. I picked the papers out, half by half.. When I thought it was all out, I tried running it foreward again, still jammed.. I found little scraps of paper causing the blades to be jammed. I am going to have my husband fix it. I may just be a 26 year old female that doesnt know much about electronics, but I think that is sorta pathetic.

A decent, small shredder
Overall, I do like (and will constantly use) this shredder, but it does have one annoying feature:if you put a piece of paper in JUST right, the cut size is sufficiently large (~ 32mm x 4mm) that an entire phone/SSnumber can appear on one of the shredded strips.Shredding 3 sheets atonce is the listed limit, but it can do 8 sheets slowly, and 6 sheets withlittle trouble.

Avoid this one
Please don't spend your money here. It consistently jams after only a couple of sheets. With all the time I spent trying to unjam it, I'd have been quicker to use a pair of scissors to cut the paper into strips! :(

Worked until I shredded an envelope w/bank statement
Worked well for a while. Then I tried shredding a closed envelope with a bank statement inside (probably 3 sheets - folded). My bad. It was more than the device could bear.
