This shredder was awful. I recently bought it. I figured "how complicated can a shredder be? You put paper in it and it get shredded."

I was wrong... This machine turns paper shredding into an excercise in self restraint. I had to restrain myself from throwing it out in the yard. Talk about frustration... The box indicated five sheets of paper...What are they talking about, tracing paper, tissue paper...

It jammed on the first sheet. After several minutes getting it unjammed, I tried again. I figured I put the paper in wrong. Stupid me...Put the paper in wrong? How many ways are there to put paper in? What was I thinking? What a piece of junk.

I kept it for several days. After this excersise, I decided it was more beneficail for me to have a bonfire in the front yard to incenerate my documents. Lucky for me, I was able to take it back and get my money back (a store credit).

I should have looked at Amazon for reviews first. Who would have thought that a paper shredder could actually not work?

Fellowes Fs5 - Shred any thought of buying one!
We bought an FS5 for home use.We don't have a home business or anything; we just wanted to shred the usual address labels and old statements. We bought the FS5 which CLAIMS to shred up to 5 sheets.Forget it.We just spent 20 minutes trying to shred 30 pages - ONE AT A TIME - and it still buckled under the "load". If we tried 2 pages at once, it jammed. While the reverse feature works very well, the forward jams constantly.If you try to shred more than a single page thick, it doesn't cut all all - just leaves an impression where the blades ran over the page. What a waste of money!!

First, I should say that I wasn't expecting to buy a high end machine forthis price. I was looking for a light duty machine for home use. Thisproduct goes way beyond disapointment. It has difficulty in shreddingalmost all types of paper. It will often leave large sections intact, andREADABLE. Kind of defeats the purpose of why you would buy a shredder,don't ya think? It is a noisy unit that also jams very easily. I don't knowwhere the 5 sheet capacity came from, but I can tell you this, mine hastrouble handling one sheet at a time! Troubled Product - Don't Buy
I bought the shredder on the Saturday and by Thursday it had completely stopped working, so it is promptly being returned and I shall choose a different product:

The trouble started with the overload light coming on and the cutters stopping for no good reason - for example a single sheet of letter being shredded first thing in the morning. So I inspect for paper shreds and vacuum the underside of the cutting area. After several attempts the mechanism will once more take paper. A few times late the overload light comes on again! Useless!

Finally today the green power light no longer comes on.

I advise you to steer clear of this shredder.

Does the Job, but can be a hassle
We bought the Royal Crosscut shredder because we felt we needed the extra security of the crosscut. It does do a good job of destroying the sheets fed into it. However, after using the shredder a few months with little actual use, it stopped shutting off automatically. Upon checking the "chewers", I found paper stuck to the rollers that do the cutting. I found one piece stuck in what must be the shuttoff switch, and after some work was able toremoved the stuck piece. After a few more sheets, it again stopped shutting off. I don't see any paper stuck this time.
I would suggest looking for a different crosscut cutter if I were in the market.

Gets the job done
I bought this item because it was advertised to shread up to 8 sheets at once and also credit cards. And it certainly does that wonderfully. I enjoy feeding it most of my junk mail including those initial offer credit cards unopened!

I initially used it to catch up on a back log of old files and had no problems as long as I metered out the pages 8 at a time. If you try for too many sheets it bogs down, but the manual forward and reverse feature are usually helpful enough to clear the jam. Otherwise, you just have to reach in (with the power off!) and manually clear any excess paper bits.

After reading other reviews I settled on this particular model and brand. I've used it for several weeks and turn the power off when I'm not using it. So far so good, with only a few minor quibbles...

Even though there is a clear thin indicator window, my model has a darker trash bin than was pictured here which makes it slightly harder to see when it's full. The edges of the bin are sharp which means watch your fingers when emptying it and especially when returning the lid! It is also quite noisy.

Dangeous! Not for families with children. No Service
I recommend against this shredder for families with children.

After filling the hopper one time, about a month and a half, the automatic shutoff quit working. The Shredder must be shut off after each shredding. I suppose the shredder is okay if you don't have children and don't mind turning it off between uses.

Now for the No Service. They are prompt to return your first call. This is good. Bad is the fact that I was told there were no service centers in the whole state, and would have to pack it up and pay shipping both ways. I can buy a fellowes shredder for the price of the shipping and have a new shredder that works safely and real service if I need it.

Go for a walk tonight and hold your child's hand firmly, they are little no longer all too soon.

Bad experience
After receiving the shredder I threw away the packing and documentation (BIG MISTAKE) and then tried it.The motor binds.I have to reverse-forward it back and forth to get it to work.Wouldn't buy another one.

Home Office
I keep wearing out my shredders and I just upgraded to this one.
Two GREAT features. No more to opening unwanted mail to get at the parts that need shredding.Now - with the 12 page capacity, I just walk from the mail box to the shredder and out it goes.

Two - the pull out bin is a major luxury after you've spent a few years emptying the old style units .

Great shredder, well worth the price.
I live in a high rise apartment building with 200 apartments sharing a commen trash dumpster. When I moved here 5 years ago I observed that I had several nosy neighbors who, whenever they saw any documents in the dumpster would open them and read them. As I occasionally have Bank and Tax records as well as documents pretaining to clients that I must despose of. I determined that I would have to have a shredder to protect these papers. I have had several less expensve shredders over the past few years and none of them have lasted very long.

When I first saw the PS70-2 in a store it looked as if it might be what I needed. I found it at Amazon for about half the store price even with shipping charges applied so I ordered one.

When it arrived I had a backlog of documents to destroy so spent the afternoon shredding. By the time I was finished I had to empty the 7 gal waste basket 3 times. During this time it shut down once to cool off. After cooling down it went right back to work without a problem.

The design of the pull out waste basket allows it to be emptied without the usual mess encountered with other shredders. Although not designed for the large office that generates a large amount of paperwork, the PS70-2 is ideal for a small office, a Home/Office or the person who just wants to keep his confidential information confidential. ... Many Fine Points, But Fatal Flaw
I purchased this shredder about 2-3 years ago for home use after having used several 'el cheapo' variety shredders that would clog and overheat the motor with anything more than a single sheet of paper.My intent was that I would spend significantly more money but get a shredder with high performance and high durability.

My expectations were met on the high performance end.This shredder would handle 5-6 sheets of paper at a time without problem and would chomp right through staples without a pause.The motor definitely had more torque than other home models I have used and the automatic eye and reversing feature worked just as expected.My only negative was that I hadn't sprung for the extra bucks and gotten the confetti cut version.

I have pretty typical home usage patterns -- probably 5-10 pages 1-2 times a week.Significantly less that the rating on this machine.But recently the shredder started accummalating paper between the shredder wheels until it wouldn't function correctly anymore.When I disassembled the shredder head to remove the paper build-up, I noticed that the true cause of the failure was several plastic fingers that had broken.

These fingers are intended to keep the shredded paper from staying on the shredding wheels.After a quick search on the web, it was easy to tell that this is not an uncommon problem with this product and that the company does not sell or provide replacement parts.If it had still been within warranty, I assume they would provide replacement coverage.

I am a mechanical engineer by trade, and when I examined the design of these plastic fingers I would almost suspect that Fellowes was designing in a product life span to their product.These plastic fingers are obviously a wear item as they are stationary and in contact with the rotating shredding wheel axle.The plastic is thin at this location and as such, once the plastic wears through, the shredder is toast.At best, this is a design flaw.At worst, you make the call.

I have it, and I hate it
It worked for about 2 weeks fine, after which shredding became troublesome (and I used it only 2-3 times a day with 2-3 pages at a time, sparingly). After another month or so, the thing broke on me completely, and now I use it as a paperweight for the stack of unshredded documents, which I have to take to work and shred it there.
Do not buy this piece of junk!!!

Stopped working after 2 weeks.Had it worked on and it then stopped working 3 weeks after that.Ended up in the dumpster.

Poor quality- does not meet expections
After two months of ownership and very light usage, the machine doesn't work.I can't tell whether it is the safety switch or the on/off one.Nevertheless, it doesn't shred anymore.Stay away from this machine.You are asking for trouble if you buy one.

Sorry I bought it!
This shredder worked really well for about 2 weeks and then only worked if I banged on the basket and otherwise jiggled it.Now it rarely works at all.I'm giving up on it and tossing it.

Think twice before buying this product.
You're better off using scissors to cut your paper! I purchased this shredder over 1 year ago, and within the year it has been to the office repair shop 3 times! This last time, the repair shop had to ship this "shredder" back to the manufacturer because it was too much for them to handle. According to the repair shop, they had to return 4 of this models back for the same reasons. If you should happen to look under the shredder, you will notice that there are plastic "teeth". These teeth break off and jam the steel cutter rollers. Another thing about the steel cutter rollers, the space between the cutters on the roller is just enough so that the paper, which gets shredded, now will get caught between them. Then you have to "floss" the steel cutters every so often to prevent the automatic shut-off from turning off the shredder. Guess that's why the manufacturer only has a 1yr warranty. ... Read more

mighty mini for small jobs
I have had this shredder for years. I rarely shred a whole page at a time, when I do shred a whole page; I fold it in half vertically and send it through. The unit shreds the paper with ease. It works well for small jobs. It is not designed as a heavy duty shredder. I usually tear parts of a page to shred (i.e. addresses and account numbers). I do put three seperate sections of paper (3 sheets thick) in the shredder and it works fine. I'm lazy in emptying the basket and compact it down before doing so.The cutting unit ends up having paper accumulated in it, but the unit still works. I am completely satisfied.
