Best for taking notes
Having spent 38 years on the road taking notes I've tried every size and kind of notebook available: spiral notebooks, steno pads, etc. This style is the best. It lies flat and is large enough for extensive notes, but not so large as to be cumbersome. It won't get smashed up like spiral notebooks -- nor does it have any irritating wires to snag your sweater. Moreover, it is easily repairable with a few strips of duct tape -- also a necessity when traveling.

The 80 page size is about right for me for a two week trip; the paper is lined and of good enough quality not to disintegrate if dumped (briefly) into the river, and the inside covers contain some useful information on weights and measures. To perdition with spiral notebooks! This is the one you want.

These Notebooks are Winners
The only shortcoming I can really see with this notebook is that it doesn't have any holes on the left side so that I can file whatever pages I need to into a 3-ring binder. Also, I'd like to be able to choose the color of my notebook.

With that said, I especially enjoy the wirebinding because it keeps my daily brainstorming sequential so that I can go back and review ideas and crossoff what I've done or chose not to do. This notebook is also great for free-style type planning in that you are not bound by any categories or, of course, calendars. Of, course, you can always make a calendar inside if you want, like I did, but how you make that calendar is up to you. If you want just lines with tick marks then you can do that, if you want to make lists of things & crossreference on the front flap so you can get an overview of entries you've made, you can do that too. There are no rules with this notebook except the faint ones that come preprinted on the pages. It's really neat unless you have bad handwriting like I do & don't always write on the lines. Incidentally, I once heard that if you sign your signature & it's not straight across on the line it means you are or will make a bad employee.

I definitely bought a number of these.

A reviewer's best friend...
I've found this product particularly helpful when I'm putting together my Amazon customer reviews. I always keep one of these handy to jot down notes and any commentary that comes to mind whenever I'm watching a video or DVD movie that I'll be reviewing. I also keep it around whenever I have some spur-of-the-moment thought, opinion, or smart-@$$ remark for a product that I'm planning to write up for the site. In the car, on the can, just about anywhere I roam, I try to keep it within arm's reach. Sure my handwriting's lousy, but I can still read it pretty good... most of the time. No really, I DO take notes for most of my video reviews. Now stop staring, please...

Anyway-- despite some peoples' disdain for the spiral binding, I find it a pretty good way to keep all the pages secure. Now if my intent were to write a class report or something of the like, and then tear it out to submit to the teacher, then it would be a bit inconvenient. A bit messy, too. But since I've no plans to forcibly decrease the sheet count in my binder, I've no problem with the wiring. And besides, I've tried those non-spiral `neatbooks' with the removable pages, but the stress on the perforations caused by my constant back-and-forth page-flipping eventually causes some the pages to fall out prematurely. Can't have that, now can we?

Oh yes, I also prefer college rule line count to standard, as I get more lines per sheet, and thus am able to pack more notes and thoughts onto each page. Now all I need is a pen that won't run dry on me half the time, and I'll REALLY be tearin' things up on this notebook! No no no, I didn't mean "tear" in the literal sense, silly...
