5-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
While the general axiom is that HP sells discounted printers and jacks up the price on the resulting cartridges.

This is not the case here, it seems; The cartridges are very cheap and 1 lasts a long time.

This is an important quality for a chem major who prints LOTS of lab reports but doesn't want to have to go to the store for ink constantly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable
This makes a nice, clean print and is reasonably priced. I've been able to print around 120 or so pages from each cartridge, so I'm happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars HP No. 56 Black Ink Cartridge (C6656AN)
Product delivered promptly and as advertised.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ink!
I bought a cute little mobile Hp Deskjet 450cbi for college, which has proved to be tiny but reliable, and it's definitely worth the money. While three months of use of our Epson printer at home drains the cartridge, three months of printing out two to three several-page papers every week using my HP 450cbi leaves the cartridge drained only to 40%. Great moneysaver for a poor college student like me!

4-0 out of 5 stars economical but short service life
I was only able to get three months out of my HP 56 cartridge.(my old printer was able to go six months but had larger cartridges). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars PAPER FEED IS A NIGHTMARE
I owned the HL-1440 and absolutely loved it. I needed a new printer, so I just got this one.It has been a total nightmare. I am a medical transcriptionist and have to print on pre-printed patient reports. The printer will pull 2 pages at once, thus printing the report on the wrong patient. The worst part is this totally destroys the patient record, as it types on top of other printed reports from previous visits. I can type up to 2 notes per sheet.I will receive the patient record with already one visit printed on it, then have to print the current report and guess what???? 2 sheets pull up, this is making my job VERY STRESSFUL.So beware if you use pre-printed sheets to print on.

3-0 out of 5 stars Print Quality Good; Envelopes cannot be printed
I operate in a Windows XP Home environment with the latest drivers.

This printer prints well but absolutely refuses to print envelopes. It is very frustrating to finish a letter and then have to hand address it, not once but repeatedly.

Tech support? What's that?

This will be my last Brother.

4-0 out of 5 stars 9 months with first toner.
Purchased this to avoid buying lots of ink cartridges for an inkjet printer. Its mostly used by my wife for grad school (30 page papers). With the small toner cartridge that came with the printer, we got 9 months worth of school work and miscellaneous stuff printed. We expect at least 1 year with the new toner. You inkjet owners can do the math.Print quality is fine for what we do.

One downside is that its an energy hog.It makes our lights dim when it wakes up.Also, the toner light didn't come on prior to it running out and subsequently, not working.Usually laser printers will give you a low-toner light, and print quality will diminish before you're to the point of no return. This printer tells you when its too late.Better keep an extra $68 cartridge on hand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Laser Printer
This is a good, basic laser printer if you don't need color. Handles a variety of media sizes, envelopes, postcards, etc. Items fed through the top tray do tend to curl slightly, but it hasn't damaged anything thus far. If you need more functionality and have the budget for it, I would recommend one of Brothers' multifunction machines. I have a Brother MFC 3820cn at home, which I love, but it is NOT laser, which I needed at the office due to the volume of printing I do there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boat Anchor
An affordable printer with lots of speed and No reliability.I have gone through several Brother printers in the last thirteen years and this one is the pits.Lasted only about three months.Product support is like pulling teeth...it takes several emails before you can talk to a human...then they go thru the "is it plugged up and swithed on" routine.I went through three layers of tech support and no luck.I figured what little I spent on this thing I may as well just chuck it.I think I will go back to an Okidata printer...I have had problems with them...but if I am not up and running I have a replacement in about four days (important if your in business).I will say the Brother DCP-1200 multifunction machine I have is very impressive...like a timex...takes a licking and keeps on printing or copying. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Can't get waste toner packs
While I am very happy with the printer, Brother currently has a very serious supply problem. The printer takes something called a waste toner pack, or WT4CL. This is a little plastic thing that probably costs a dime to produce. The manual says that it lasts about 12,000 pages. After 3,900 pages, the printer's red light came on and it would not function.

It seems that you can't get these waste toner packs anywhere in the U.S. Amazon doesn't have them, Staples doesn't have them, buy.com doesn't have them, etc. I did find them at amatteroffax.com, and paid for 2-day shipping, paid a premium over list price, and it took more than a week to receive. I also ordered 2 directly from Brother (after talking to them on the phone and wading through their phone trees...).

I just received a snail-mail letter from Brother saying "We are temporarily out of stock. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery."
Well, that is just great when your printer will not work without it. I have heard that you can empty it yourself if you are careful not to breathe the toner, but that will violate your warranty.

So -- I love the printer, it prints quickly and the color looks great, but this supply glitch is ridiculous. How can I recommend a printer without supplies?

5-0 out of 5 stars Loud but effective
This is another good product from Brother. We use a number of different types of printers in our business and this is the best of bunch.
We have an all Mac office, and set-up was a breeze. We've networked it, and it also works well using the Mac's built in printer sharing over a wireless network.
Color is great, with the right resolutions you get good photographic reproduction. We use it very effectively with brochures.
One of the downsides is that accessories are expensive. Another is that in operation it is a little noisy. While in operation it makes a number of clunks and bumps, something to do with the switching between the various cartridges I think.
All and all though a very good machine. And by the way shop around a little for toner. It can be had for a lot less then the list price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Problem with scanning from a book
A magnificent allrounder, but note that if you want to scan a page from a book, with the lid open, you need to put white paper over absolutely every part of the glass that's not covered by the book, otherwise the whole scan comes out totally black, so it's somewhat of a pain -- and nothing is said about this in the instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly real all-in-one
MFC-620CN is not a 3 or 4 in 1. It's a 7 in 1! I bought this small multifunction to replace my 7 years old Brother MFC-1970MC. The old Brother still works fine but just I want more functionalities. I would say Brother's quality is very good. OK, I own the 620 for about 10 days and installed it into home networking. I didn't do USB install. Here are some of my opinions,

1. print: work fine on network print. Quality is very good for both text and picture. It prints fast compared with my other 2 inkjet printers.

2. scan: work fine with single page mode and feeder. It's a little bit dark but that's not serious. However, I found if it scans from a feeder, the top and bottom 5mm will be cut away. It's a flatbed scanner if single page mode used.

3. copier: I didn't use this function so don't know.

4. fax: just as good as my previous MFC-1970MC. Same as scan, this is a flatbed fax machine.

5. PC-fax: works fine as a typical PC fax. You 'print' the document to the PC Fax iocn in printer list and it faxes out.

6. answer machine: 30 minutes is good enough for me.

7. phone: I have used the phone receiver several times. It's clear but with a cord so I cannot move too far from the multifunction. I would appreciate if Brother put a mute function to the phone.

8. flash memory reader: I thought it can be a network storage but I was wrong. It only accesses pictures by using a web address browsing.

To me, MFC-620CN does worth the money. It's inexpensive but you could use it as network printer/scanner/fax. The phone/fax function can tell an incoming is a phone call or fax. And it comes with an answer machine (how many all-in-ones have answer machine?) The size is small. The function is more than enough. Really convenient for a home office.

5-0 out of 5 stars Size *DOES* matter!
I've owned this for about 3wks now and this is what I like about it:

-VERY small and light weight!
-mic is very sensitive and clear
-earpiece sound quality is almost the same as hearing it from the headset
-battery life is very close to what's advertised
-it looks really cool!

What I don't like about it:
-volume buttons are too small and hard to get at

I used to own the Jabra BT headset and I'm glad I switched. The Nokia has a dedicated on/off switch versus the Jabra's "press and hold this button for 5sec to turn on or off" switch.Belive me, it saves a wealth of convenience. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I disagree with the Negative Reviews
Hi,
I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I have read all of them and it seems that, aside from two that had Software issues, or maybe a bad machine, the other negative reviews were from people that had special needs, or were using this for not what it was designed.
I needed a scanner so I bought a printer. As a rule, I don't like to buy the multifunction machines, not for any specific reason. But I reviewed and searched and I found this printer. Again I was skeptical as it was a multifunction machine.
I had no problem with the instalation and the software was not a problem for me. I use a home made PC AMD 2400, and I am using XP Pro. I have not had a problem and it has been flawless.
I like all of the features it has to offer. The Scanner, and the Card reader is especially nice I was surprised as to how well that works. That was a plus, I thought it would work but not spectacularly, I was surprised, it works great.
To go back to the scanner it is great it will make excellent copies with a single push of a button. You can make copies with out the computer being on. It is a simple push of a button and a copy is made. Very nice.
Printing photos is easy also, and again a PC is not really needed. The printer scans from a Media Card (it will read like all of them). You see the photo in the window, and select and print.
The only problems I have found. The black ink cart is too small. The paper 'catching part' of it is lacking. I wish they could have redesigned that part. But it is not a big problem as I would not down grade it for that.
The absolute biggest drawback is the paper feed is too small, I am always having to add more paper. It seems like the feed tray is too small. Again I am happy with it so much I can live with that as well.
It is a very nice size, and price. All of the parts of it work so well. It is a printer I will use for a very long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is great printer but underrated -- please read!
This has been a great all in one printer producing quality documents with clear, clean text and graphics on many types of papers. It prints excellent copies, makes beautiful greeting cards, envelopes, photo's of all sizes - borderless and not, and makes nice scans.

I chose this model PSC2355 because I did not need a fax but wanted the LCD screen to be able to use this printer with or without my PC as my camera is older, without PictBridge and I liked having these options. You can get this model HP printer without the LCD and you get have this model with the LCD and with a fax!

Installation went well and was quite fast.Seemed like less than 15 minutes total.I use Windows XP with cable. To use my scanner after installation, I clicked on start in my taskbar. From there, I clicked on scanners and cameras which brought up the HP scanner icon with model number.Double click on the icon and it opens the welcome box to the scanner and camera wizard. Click next to continue and when that opens, choose your picture type (I like "custom" for the scan quality) and then click "preview".This way you can use the sizer so not to scan all the white of the lid surrounding your scanned piece (for example: a 4x6 picture).Warning: 2400 does take considerable time!On the next option it asks you what you want to do so choose your 1 of3 options and click next. Then you can view your scan from that menu or click finish and open the file later but clicking finish opens the folder automatically for me.I didn't find installation hard or buggy - not at all.It had to be intuitive because I am an old woman and not that computer smart but I had no problem understanding this installation. No buggy software for me.I did not get a bunch of unwanted software installation but I did load the CD for HP image zone and find that I like it for a quick enhancement and printing option.

I find that I MUST use the PHOTO cartridge when printing photos!!You CAN use ONLY the tri-color and black cartridge that come with the printer and you will still get nice pictures but if you are the least bit finicky - as I am, you WILL WANT TO USE THE PHOTO CARTRIDGE!It will make the world of difference in your print quality! Also, and especially if you do not use any photo imaging software, you just might want to dabble with your printer options because on those "special" pictures, you REALLY WILL see a quality difference when you learn how to tweak with these options.Wow, I have produced stunning photographs utilizing many different features. Please note:this printer uses only the newer Vivera inks. Number 95 or 97 tri-color, 94 black and 99 photo.

I am very happy with this printer.I don't know what this nonsense is when people say it won't print in color or it prints lines.Something is wrong but it may not be the printer...

During the past 8 years, I have owned a Canon, an Epson and HP and have been pleased with all three.I prefer HP because I like a new printhead each time I change a cartridge.

No matter what I did, all my printers used gobs of ink and cost an arm and a leg.I had various problems with all of them yet they were all nice printers. However, I do like this model all in one because it does a bit of everything. If you are buying this just for the scanner for old family pictures and film, then this is not the scanner for you.It gets the job done and can even make great scans, providing your original is good quality but it is not a dedicated scanner for photography professionals and enthusiasts. This all in one is a great printer but is simply providing you with more just to give a little home office for a lesser price. My opinion is to go for a dedicated film and photo repair scanner if you expect to fix old film and photos.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Printer, Bad Software
HP hardware is generally good stuff- lasts a long time, does a excellent job, and looks nice. The HP PSC 2355 is no exception. The quality of the printing is top notch, it is very intuitive to use, and image slots as well as screen are useful features. I especially like the fact that the print-head is built into the ink cartridge. This brings up the cost a little, but well worth it, because you are getting a brand new print-head every few months (this was a big problem with my old Epson).

For an all purpose printer, I am very pleased. It prints quietly, and quickly. I was looking for a printer that does decent scans, copies, printing and pictures at a reasonable price. This does all of that wonderfully, and the small size is very convenient too.

Of course, there is one big problem, and that is the HP software. Setting up this software is absolutely HORRIBLE. It is amazing how incompatible the HP printer drivers are with the HP digital camera drivers. I spent hours and hours trying to solve problems with HP technical support; they are absolutely useless. First, pictures wouldn't download properly, then the computer and printer wold not communicate correctly- the list goes on and on. HP Tech support failed to solve any of my problems. I had to do it all on my own.

In summary, the printer itself is great, once you've got it up and running. But to get to that point, namely installing the software, is a feat in itself. Buying this may not be the best idea for those who don't find computers intuitive.

Important to note: This does NOT come with a USB cable to connect to a computer! I luckily had one from my old printer, so it wasn't a problem for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars You might want to consider the HP 1610
After studying very carefully, including specs, reviews, and even manuals, I bought the HP PSC 1610. It's quite a bit less expensive. The only difference I could find is that you can't see the photo from your camera on the 1610 screen (you just see printing). But, if you're doing most of the photo editing on your computer, I can't see any reason to spend the extra money for the 2355. BTW, I just printed a 4 x 6 photo on the 1610, and it was excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Solution for Home or Office
After researching printers for the past month, I finally decided on the HP PSC 2355v. I am a photography minor and wanted a printer/scanner that would be as good as the digital darkroom here on campus. This scanner actually scans at a higher rate (5 times higher) than the $900 (3 years old) scanner in the darkroom. The printer (with the additional color cartridge) actually prints my photos much, much better than the VERY expensive printers in the darkroom.

This printer's dpi is as high as any all-in-one printer under $600. I bought mine at Wal-Mart (of all places) for $178.88. I know that if I have any problems then walmart will take it back...something to consider.

Overall, I am very, very satisfied with this purchase. I highly recommend this machine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Four great personal LaserJets to choose from.....
In my office we have found the LaserJet 1022's to be MVPs (Most Valuable Printers). This baby is rock-solid, works everytime and prints laser sharp. Also, with HP models you don't have to wait and wait for your page to come out. HP calls it Instant-On technology.Brother and Samsung models have long warm up times (ugh!) but the HP 1022 spits the page out immediately.

If you want the basics you can get the LaserJet 1020 printer.

If you want a little extra paper handling options get the LaserJet 1022 printer

If you want to use fast Ethernet connection the LaserJet 1022n printer has the embedded Ethernet print server built in

AND...if you want 802.11 wireless get the LaserJet 1022nw printer which has the both the wired and wireless Ethernet print servers built into the printer.

Goodbye inkjet. Hello HP LaserJet

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite Satisfied
I have some VCR tapes that I wanted to copy, edit and burn to DVD.I contacted Dell Computers to seek their advice on what I should purchase to accomplish this task. They recommended the Pinnacle MovieBox 9.0-USB. I naturally went to Amazon to read reviews.Needless to say, the reviews were pretty bad. But, the one thing that I kept reading was that people with machine configurations slightly better than minimum requirements were having problems.Since I just purchased a new computer from Dell (Dimension 8400, 3.4GHz, 1GB RAM, 160 GB HD), I assumed that I my configurations were more than adequate to accomplish the task.I purchased the Pinnacle MovieBox Deluxe 9.0-USB.

After receiving the moviebox and software, I couldn't be more pleased. This hardware/software performs exactly as described and I couldn't be happier.I was able to capture my VCR tapes flawlessly, edit like a professional and burn to DVD without any problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars review of reviews
I was seriously thinking of getting this product, but there are so many bad reviews about Pinnacle products, and especially their customer tech service I have second thoughts. Here I see several bad reviews from all over the country, suddenly followed by a "great" professionally sounding review from CA from "A Reader". Pinnacle is located in Mountain View CA. Who do you believe??

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked great for me!
I was hesitant to buy this based on the other reviews but then Maximum PC Magazine said it was just fine. I got a $70 rebate for it so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm happy to report Pinnacle Studio MovieBox Deluxe 9.0 [USB 2.0] works just as advertised. I have never done any video conversion or editing before nor have I ever burned a video DVD before. This product made it easy.

I hooked up my VCR to the device and the film copied right in without a hitch on my first try. I did some minor editing in Studio and created a somewhat complex menu for the video. I then exported to a low-res mpeg that ran just great on Windows Media Player and then burned a high-res image to DVD. The DVD plays in both of my home DVD players and even works on a Mac. Quality of the DVD was as good as the VHS tape.

Overall I have not had any hiccups, crashes, or other problems over a half dozen conversions. Well one issue: on one video import that I edited the sound on the first chapter is very choppy when you preview it. Once I exported it out to an actual movie the sound was fine. But other than that I have had no trouble making VHS to DVD conversions with light editing.

I do have a very solid PC setup with lots of RAM and disk space. RAM seems less important as I haven't seen the program use more than a few hundred megabytes. If you have at least 768MB of RAM you should be fine (can't say what the requirements would be if you did lots of sound editing or transitions). Free disk space is crucial. Plan on having at least 5GB of disk space free for every hour of video you want to convert. Multiple disks also help where you can have the program on one disk and the video files writing to another. I also updated all of the drivers and firmware for the various devices before starting.

Previous reviewers mentioned choppy video. I have not had the problem but one thing to remember is that you can't record Hollywood movies that are copy protected. This will result in all kinds of lousy import issues. If you are trying to convert home movies or unprotected movies it should work fine. I'd also guess at least a 3Ghz P4 as the minimum processor for DVD quality video. I think the box says 2.2Ghz as the MINIMUM needed for DVD quality.

If you have a good PC I'd say give this product a try. It worked for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this product
Don't buy this product - it just doesn't work. I hoped that the other reviewers who had problems were using underpowered computers, but I couldn't get it to work on my 3 year old Dell, with 2.4GHz P4, and 1MB RAM, which are far beyond the requirements Pinnacle specifies. The captured video was so jerky, it was unwatchable. I emailed Pinnacle's tech support and got an automatic response that said I would hear from them in 24 hours. I think they meant 24 years, because 4 days later I haven't heard a work. I don't know what works better - maybe a firewire capture would work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless Product
Terrible product from a truly awful company. Do yourself a favor and just don't enter the world of frustration that is Pinnacle Systems. I hope this company goes out of business soon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best !!!!
Here is my review for the sister model of MFC7420 (7820N), the only difference in 7820N is better scan resolution & Networking capabilities, the rest is the same, so my review should apply to MFC 7420 as well.

WoW ! This must be the best MFC out there. I have owned several canon, hp, lexmark MFC, photo printers, fax machines etc. This machine is it. All you need is this MFC & a separate photo printer. you are all set.

1. This is a laser MFC - scan(color), copy, fax, print
2. very fast for home/small office use
3. very compact - very space saving
4. Network ready - other computers on network can use all functions of this.
5. unlimited tech support. not just 1-year like HP/canon.
6. Machine feels sold & feels it will last long
7. All fax, copy, scan can be operated either from machine buttons or pc software interface.
8. installation was breeze
9. software is top notch. very intuitive
10. tested print, copy, scan & fax - AWESOME AWESOME.
11. they don't outsource cust support to india
12. only regrets: no duplex, no separate output tray, but from a compact machine like this, you can't expect output tray.
13. This MFC is clearly the winner. nothing else.
14. $50 cartride takes you upto 2,500 pages. not bad
15. Auto feeder works flawlessly
16. buy from local office depot store when they give $40 gift card with it.
17. you can connect any answering machine, so all you need is one line for phone callss & fax. this machine shows whether it is a phone call or fax. can use distinctive ring too.
18. backlit LCD menu
19. if you network with this printer, you don't need to buy USB cable
20. 32mb memory for printing, huge memory for fax.
21. super fast fax speed
22. Excellent looks.
23. DEDICATED MAC SUPPORT, although i only used it for Windows.

why didn't i know about Brother earlier ?

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous paper - Perfect photo prints EVERY TIME!!!
As I write this review, I am using the this Photo paper Plus I bought off Amazon. It is just the perfect paper to compliment your Canon Printer.Personally I have a Canon i860 (just got off Amazon) to replace an older Canon whose printhead died (S900).Once I got my printer, I reprinted almost every photo I have! And what paper did I use - none other than Canon's Photo Paper Plus 4X6 glossy. It has never let me down - and I see absolutely no difference between the glossy and photo paper pro, so why not save $?

This paper is $11.99 + tax in every retail store I visit.I can't believe Amazon can sell it this cheaply!I picked up 4 packs because it's too good of a deal and I know I'll use every last piece of paper.

PROS:
Wonderful prints - looks better than a photo lab in much less time!
Paper is nice and glossy, never had a defective piece.
Colors are true and vivid.
Great price vs. retail.

CONS:
Packaging leaves much to be desired. The outer carton is fine, but - I personally have ruined a few pieces of Canon paper because the adhesive they use to seal their plastic packages attaches to the paper and rips it apart - I carefully remove the plastic packaging and throw it away immediately.

BUY THIS PAPER!!!It's wonderful and inexpensive!Perfect for Canon printers!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very short life
I agree with everyone that this paper produces terrific results initially. If the prints are exposed to direct light for any period of time, serious fading becomes evident (using canon inks in a s750 canon printer). The pictures on my pegboard at work have faded to almost nothing within 3 months.Although I have not tried the photopaper pro, I would not trust this paper for archival photos. For about the same price (and less hassle), I am using online printing from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless and fun.
Before finding it on Amazon, I use to drive 40 miles each way to buy this at an overpriced, overcrowded electronics megastore than shall remain nameless for $12.99 per pack. THAT is how far above this paper stands above everything else that I have tried. The price is great here and if you get quality paper it will reduce the ink money and frustration you would spend trying to get a decent print out of a cheaper paper. Also, the paper is the perfect size, quality, and cost (about half as much per print than a tranditional print) to have fun with. BUY TWO SIDED TAPE and stick these little gems everywhere.

I generally cannot discern the difference between this and the pro paper, and after spending the last decade in the darkroom, I like to think I can generally tell something about quality photographic prints.

I have not had the yellow tint problem that has been mentioned in earlier reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars just as good as Photo Pro
I got some free Photo Pro paper with my printer. I printed the same pic on Pro and Paper Plus, and the pictures looked exactly the same to me.The Pro paper may be slightly heavier.Anyway, I'll be buying this paper b/c it's great quality and a good price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly identical to Canon Photo Paper Pro!
I bought a i960 printer last week and it came with 5 samples of Photo Paper Pro.The printer was my first "photo printer" so I decided to give it a try and see how close the quality is from that of professional printing. After printing one sample, I have to agree w/ many reviewers here that the print quality of Canon printer along w/ the Canon paper is awesome!

I then bought 3 packs of Canon Photo Paper Plus (afterall it's $.10/page cheaper than the Pro).I printed the same photo with the Plus and I cannot tell the difference in terms of color and clarity! The only difference I saw was, if I look at the photos under the light in a certain angle, I see that the printed surface of the Plus is slightly rougher (less uniform) than that of the Pro.But you really have to look close to see the difference and honestly it doesn't impact the quality of the photo. So my conclusion is the Canon Photo Paper Plus is the way to go!(BTW, I previously bought some generic "glossy photo paper" on eBay and the quality was not accetable w/ ink smearing.) ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Less than than average inkjet printer.
I've used this machine for about 1 month, but I had problems to use it on the home network. I have shared my FAX/DCP or MFC machine from my Windows XP machine and when other Windows users trying to print can not. I asked the technical support 3 timesfor assistance in this issue, but instead of looking the problem in details, they started to teach me how to make my printer shared on the network, which I've done many times. I wonder if the knowledge of their tech support people is more than that of average computer user. My old inkjet printer worked very fine as a shared, although it had only a paralell port connection and the present Brother machine is worhtless if you can't use it as shared on home networking. The knowledge of support people makes me very unsatsified so probably I will restrain form buying another Brother products. In my opinion this product is not worth the $120 spent for it, and also as result of the fax connection, my telephone answering machine is not working properly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Scanner issues!
I got this today and I'm returning it tomorrow. The printer part is fine, but I do a lot of scanning and I am dumbfounded by what I discovered with this aspect of the machine. First off, when scanning you don't get a preview, you have no option of controlling the size of the scan, or the HSL or any other color/brightness control, nor can you control the dpi. You push the scan button and it scans the whole bed. If your object is smaller than the bed size, too bad. If you want something at 72 dpi (which is all any monitor can "see" so all you use for the web), too bad. If the colors aren't good, too bad. If there's a glare off of something you're scanning, too bad. No options are available. The files end up being large as they're the size of the bed and at 300dpi (the default).
When I first tried scanning and didn't get a preview window or any controls, I picked up the manual to figure out what was going wrong. Guess what? no mention of scanning in the 200 page book. When I looked "scanning" up in the index, it told me to look on the cd. When I looked on the cd, nothing. I went to Brother's site and downloaded a manual from there--only to read that you don't get any options on any part of scanning!

1-0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For - When Will I Learn
Wrong on both counts. You get what you pay for.I found the machine had limited compatibility on the software side. The ink sensing capability often indicated a cartridge was empty when it was not but then would not accept anything but a new cartridge (nice for Brother cartridge sales). The paper feed was less than consistent.I am a one person business with moderate to low printing requirements and this machine created more chaos than efficiency. My HP all in one is on order. It cost about 2.5 times what this machine does but I know I will get what I paid for.Would love to give this machine (and several cartridges) back to Brother but they do not seem interested. Not sure I could even give this thing to an enemy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all, easy to set-up and use
Installation was a breeze with the large-print step-by-step installation instructions.Printouts are great.Matter of fact, I was worried that the printouts would not be as good as my Epson printer because of some of the reviews here, but I'm glad to report, everything, including photos, print perfectly. However, as with all new computer equipment I install, I did not install the software from the CD, rather, I downloaded the latest MFL-Pro Suite software directly from the brothers.com web site (I dislike installing software from an enclosed CD, only to have to update it soon afterwards, and do the whole uninstall, reinstall thing).
I definitely recommend this printer if you need a do-it-all device.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just an average inkjet printer
I just purchased one of this and realised that when it comes to photographs this printer does not live up to the job.You can see the white lines on the paper very clearly.I still prefer my HP ...For ordinery job .. this machone is okay ... but when comes to pictures ...it is a no no .... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What do you expect for the price?!?!
I bought this for under $150 on sale.Mine came with a rebate so it was even lower. The speed at which pages come out of the printer make it well worth the price paid.If this thing dies in six months I would have gotten my money's worth and I wouldn't even object to getting another one!I do get some of the curling mentioned but I'm also using a $2 ream of paper.I'm sure with better paper it will be fine. The pages are far from unusable though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mac Friendly
I purchased this to use with my new iBook. The compact size nicely reflects the compact size of my portable iBook.Conectivity is great via USB and it found the printer right away.No complaints here, and I print daily on this machine.Good machine for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent quality and price
This Brother printer is a great value for the price.I purchased this machine for my home and it has performed flawlessly.I haven't seen any of the excessive curling mentioned in previous reviews, but then again, I'm using a quality laser paper.I have ran a few larger print jobs, printing various manuals and it churns right through them. The best part is it's small enough to fit on my desk and still leaves me room to work, not like past laser printers I've owened.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great print quality and speed again
I have purchased this machine for the new compact design and high speed for the price. This machine has met every expectation for a personal laser printer in speed and quality.Print quality is very good.I would strongly recomend the HL-2040 where space is a necessity. Also Brothers lower opperating cost help.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but problems
I can't print more than 10 pages before the printer has a "fuser unit failure" and has to sit for fifteen minutes before it will reset. This has happened 3 times so far and I am still waiting for the printer to reset as we speak.I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this piece of junk. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars For WEBTV PLUS USERS!
I was printing in 1/2 an hour! Dont forget to order a cable -doesnt come with, about 30.00, just spend it, it'll save aggravation. I ordered mine also thru Amazon. NOTE: There are no instructions for WEBTV PLUS hookup, but thru your msn printer help pages, just a few steps, it'll take u 5 minutes. Also the box comes in the original package, UPS GROUND, so you'll probably want to be there to get it. 1 more thing, there are no pictures in the reference guide, but if you look in the MAC & WINDOW flyer that it comes with you'll know where to put things, for those of us that aren't printer savvy.THANKS AMAZON!

My wife and I wasted hours and hours trying to get HP service. HP has outsourced customer service to several developing countries, and each time we called, the representatives were unable to locate the record of our previous call. We were told time and again that we would be contacted by a "case manager" but that never happened. After weeks of trying, it became obvious that we need to discard the product (still under warrantee) and buy a new (non-HP) product ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Choice For 45/78 Cartridge Users
I used an inexpensive HP PhotoSmart printer for 2 years. The print quality was good, but the feed mechanism drove me crazy with frequent paper misfeeds (using HP paper!!!). The support software also contantly gave warnings about a lost connection to the printer (actually to the built-in memory stick reader). There were so many buttons on the housing that I had to study them carefully with a flashlight whenever the printer needed service. It turns out that I had purchased the wrong printer for my needs. The Photosmart was a fancy toy for digital photo enthusiasts. What I needed was a small business-grade printer.

During that period, I built up an investiment in 45/78 cartridges. There is a local service here in North Seattle which refills the cartridges for about $15. They do a good job.

I finally decided to purchase a new printer. The HP 6122 offers three things that I really, really needed:
1.Reliability.
2.Simplicity.
3.Uses the same 45/78 cartridges.

The 6122 cost a lot more than the Photosmart, and it has fewer "cool features." The trick is that the 6122 has everything I actually need---and it works reliably.

As a bonus, the 6122 gives me double-sided printing. When I use this feature with draft quality printing and inexpensive paper, I have a very cost-effective printer. For resumes and important correspondence, I turn up the print quality, switch to single-sided printing and use paper with rag content. The result is equal to that of a laser printer.

There are only three buttons on the housing, and they are easy to see and understand. This printer is not a toy. It prints. That is all it does, and it does that very well.

The HP Preview is included. This is an awesome utility that saves me gallons of ink and tons of paper each year. HP should win a Nobel award or something for that little utility.

THe 6122 is ideal for professionals/small offices needing a simple printer that is very reliable---without spending a forturne. It is well-built, solid and compact.

I am very pleased with the HP 6122.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer!
I've had this printer for about 1 1/2 years, having switched to HP after owning an Epson and a Lexmark, with which I was sort of dissapointed. The Lexmark, although pretty advanced for its time (about 4 years ago), had really bad print quality, even at high resolution settings. The Epson Stylus Color 680 had BIG paper feeder problems and I spent many minutes trying to reprint stuff that got caught in the feeder. Anyway, after I unpacked this printer, I was shocked by its extreme weight. This is a good thing, making it a sturdy and solid printing device. The extra piece for double sided printing is a must-have and I've never taken it out. I've printed everything there is to print, from cd labels to high quality photos for presentations, etc, and I've never had any trouble with it. The resolution settings are perfect for their purpose and at "Draft" setting, this printer will slice you in half if you're not careful. The software is extremely easy to install and the packaging is flawless. I recommend it wholeheartedly, great printer for its price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the workhorse
I researched many printers after my beloved old HP died with a
death scream ... I really liked the reviewer who compared the
6122 to a Clydesdale - that just tipped the scales.I've now
had this printer for several months - it's a great piece of
machinery, worth every penny.Yes, it's a little noisy, but
that's how any workhorse would be.The quality is excellent in
my opinion, whether I'm printing photos or just an everyday
printing job. I'm very happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Slowest printer I've ever seen
I bought this printer because of the compact size and mulitple functions.

I don't know how the 17ppm is calculated, but it's taken 8 minutes to print 7 b&w pages so far this morning. It printed painfully slowly from the first day I got it. HP wouldn't exchange it unless I determined there was a problem with it - which required a lengthy conversation with someone with limited English skills. His "help" didn't get me anywhere, and took over an hour, so I gave up. I'm ready to replace it after 3 months.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the money!
I liked being able to replace a printer and scanner with a single machine, and it prints, scans, and copies really well.Color copies are a bit "off color" but do the trick for my purposes.Wouldn't recommend for a high-volume use, such as home office/business.Great looking, doesn't take up much space.Easy to use.I haven't yet used it to print any photos.

I'd buy it again!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great For the Price...
First of All this All-in-One is great and works fine for me.

The Bad thing about it is installation took long time, the Installation Disc came with it was corrupted and stuck at 90%, i had to download the drivers from website (it wasn't too hard however..).

Another problem was after installtion everytime i started the printer it printed the test page, it happened like 9 times, finally reading the test page i figured out that test page was supposed to be scanned to align the printer (my bad).

Other then that no problem at all, print quality is great and speed is very good for the price i paid. I bought 1315xi model which came with photo papers and i print few of them quality is almost same as the walgreen.

Scanner is absolute perfect, scanning quality is amazing.

The great feature i like about this one is stand alone copier, thats what i use this machine for most of the time. Copier is excellent.

The bottom line, this printer is great for the price i paid,
I read lots of reviews about people having problem with HP products, i am not one of them.

Hey every product gives problem every now and then, HP products are tend to creat problem at installation, but once its installed it works fine.

So if you are looking for Low Priced Good Quality product go with HP, if you have lots of buck to spend go with some thing else

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad printer, terrible service
Ever since we bought this printer, it's been nothing but trouble. We spend over a dozen hours (really, on the clock -- this is not an exageration) with tech support people. Finally they promised a replacement printer within three days, and almost a week has passed, and it hasn't even shipped yet.

You can do much, much better

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value, but be careful!
The printer is good overall, but I didn't know that it was incompatible for wireless printing. My 5 year old HP inkjet was compatible to Netgear's print server, so I figured a new printer would be compatible, but it turns out the HP PSC printers are not network capable. If being able to wirelessly print is important to you, pick another printer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
I got this printer in December but then in January IT STOPPED WORKING! I was bummed because I was so happy with it. I tried to get it to work everyday for about a week or two then I gave up. Now in April I decided to get another one, but before I did I wanted to see if it would work one last time and guess what?! It came to life!!!! It healed itself!!! I have no idea how?! I am so happy with it!!!!!!! It's the best thing ever!!!! NO NEED FOR THE COMPUTER!!!! But if you want to edit the pictures so they come out looking great then it comes with a stellar program!!! I JUST LOVE IT!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Little Printer
Printer has proven to be EXCELLENT as far as I have used it.Won it in a contest, so I'm not complaining. ;)

I have printed out some pictures and find the quality to be EXCELLENT.The speed of printing is also fast and the printer prints BORDERLESS photos (which is a handy feature).

As with any product there are a few cons.
1) Printer is a PHOTO printer. That means you won't be printing out an 8X10s; you can only print 4X6 photos (but I'm expecting you know this already..)

2)Cable to hook to PC is *not* included. If you want to transfer pictures from your computer, don't expect to get a cable with your printer. The cable is sold separately. However, a flash/USB drive will work perfectly.. Just plug the USB drive into your computer, stick the pictures on it, then plug the USB drive into your printer.

---------
The printer can recognize MANY different formats, SD cards, USB input devices (photo iPod, flash drive, etc..)Which is very convenient. It can also view the pictures straight from your camera (make sure it's compatible, most are..)

If you're looking to just print photos and want a light-weight and portable printer, this is the item for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
I got an hp325 for Christmas. I took pictures of the family opening presents with my Canon A70 and printed them out before breakfast. Quality is great. Took camera and printer to a meeting, took pictures and printed them. Everybody was amazed at the quality and very idea that I could print pictures right at the table. Haven't tried installing in computer. Why bother? I can download from card to computer with card reader. Love the portability. Getting our son one for his birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome photo lab for $149
I highly recommend this printer. I did plenty of research and came to the conclusion that this printer offers the best features for the price. The other HP model (HP 375) offers a photo preview screen but costs more. I saw a retail store rep print the same image on HP and Epson printers and the HP printers usually were faster with equal or better photo quality. My family has used this printer for a month now and it is so much fun. Great job HP!

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing at first but HP resolved the issue
I was frustrated when I first bought the printer. It creates great pictures from my memory card but it would not install on my computer. After reading someone's previous review I thought I should just return it.I contacted HP and one of the customer service reps told me that a certain batch of those printers have a defect that will not allow it to be installed on your computer.I had received advice from other HP reps and it did not work. The only solution was to exchange the printer through Hewlett Packard not the store I bought it from. HP sent me another printer and my computer was able to recognize that printer. Now I can print from my computer and my memory card. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I like HP products. I have the hP Photosmart 7150 and it is a workhorse.I have had nothing but trouble with the teh Deskjet 6840.It is supposed to be wirelessly available.Not.I have it wired directly and it constantly loses communication with my computer, which I can't figure out. I waste more paper because it stops in the middle of everything I try to print. I try unplugging, rebooting, nothing works.I wanted to return it but waited too long with Amazon to return this piece of junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible service
My wife and I wasted hours and hours trying to get HP service. HP has outsourced customer service to several developing countries, and each time we called, the representatives were unable to locate the record of our previous call.We were told time and again that we would be contacted by a "case manager" but that never happened. After weeks of trying, it became obvious that we need to discard the product (still under warrantee) and buy a new (non-HP) product ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars no problems
I've had my Deskjet 6840 for a couple of weeks and so far no problems. Getting a reliable hookup to the Linksys Wireless G router took some work because of the security settings. This was solved by manually inputting the IP address. The HP installation software on the disk is not without bugs; it wouldn't autostart after my first attempt at installation. Not a big deal. The fast draft mode is great.

This unit replaces an HP 890c that was telling me to change out the service module at an estimated cost of $200+...so getting a new, faster and wireless printer for about 2/3 of that amount is good.

If you are a little savvy with wireless, it seems to be a fine unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer
I have owned two other HP printers - an old HP LaserJet 5 and a DeskJet 932 inkjet. This printer is far and away better than either were at their time.B/W text is crisp and clear, not too much experience with color yet.Setup couldn't have been easier - printer joined my wireless network like a champ.I can't exagerate how nice it is to tuck this printer away and print documents while working anywhere in the house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and Friendly Printer
I just got my new HP 6840 last week and have great things to say about it.
First of all, the wireless setup using XP Home was flawless. I had the printer installed and configured on a 128-bit WEP in just a few minutes. I am still working on getting a W2000 Laptop to print, but that's probably a driver issue that I have not solved. I have even printed from my iPAQ over the air! Cool!
The WiFi interface is very fast!
The color reproduction is extremely good. I have been printing on glossy inkjet paper and the photos come out looking perfect every time.
One added plus, the paper feed is from a tray on the bottom, unlike the Epson C80 that I replaced. That makes for a very low profile printer that easily fits on my desk where the C80 would not.
Ink cartridges are easy to change, and cost is comparable to the Epson carts. I would have preferred to have a separate cart for each color, but can overlook that single issue considering the quality of the prints I am getting.
I highly recommend this printer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If quality counts this one wins
You don't get much choice about which cartridge to use when you purchase a printer. Fortunately my HP Photosmart 7760 printer uses this cartridge. The results are excellent. Okay, the cartridge runs out of ink quickly, but it costs less than other larger cartridges. The printer also advises you that you are running low before the cartridge is empty so you have time to prepare. I keep a few extras around to make sure that I can always finish what I start printing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I ordered three Canon color cartridges. All arrived quickly and as advertized, were Canon originals. Also, prices were the best online I found. Thank you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Ink cartridge
The 58 cartridge does not run out of ink as fast as the no. 56 one does. Could HP make a cartridge that does not run out of ink so quickly? I like the printer and it prints great photos from the no. 58 but the black cartridges run out of ink so quickly that it is placing a dent in my wallet.

3-0 out of 5 stars The printouts are great, but ink runs out fast
I used 6-ink printing with HP 57 and 58 cartridges on my PSC 2210 multifunction machine using 4800*1200 optimized color DPI.The printouts look perfect on HP premium photo paper.Howerver, the HP 58 photo cartridge runs out after fewer than 20 8*11 pages (60 4*6 photos), and the HP 57 cartridge has only about 1/4 left.It would be much cheaper if I just took the images to the 1-hour photo processing center in my local Costco...

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the "Photo Cartridge"
HP No. 58 Photo Cartridge (C6658AN) .... This item is not listed/technical specs. corrrectly..... It is a Photo Cartridge which replaces the black cartridge in a printer.... What it has is: black, + magenta(photo) and Cyan (photo).... This is in additon to the tri-color cartridge, thus giving;.... 6 color (cyan, magenta, yellow,+ (this cartrige, #58) black ,magenta(photo) and Cyan (photo).... I am going to try this in my HP 550 and will see and write my results.I have purchased the refill inks (way, way less $ ...like 10-20% of the cost, 80% less) and it has the ink for the Photo Cartridge. So I want to try it. I will write back with my opinion.
