Amazon.com Product Description

Give your small business or home the productivity-enhancing features of a business telephone system without the high price tag. The KX-TG4000B four-line cordless telephone system accommodates up to eight handsets, while the all-digital voice mail system with auto attendant can be occupied by up to four users simultaneously. And dual caller ID with call waiting lets you see who's calling on either line.

The KX-TG4000B base unit and each cordless handset communicate in both directions using 2.4 GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transmission. FHSS technology improves calling range and clarity, and eliminates crosstalk. Because it rapidly changes transmission frequencies within the 2.4 GHz bandwidth, this cordless system helps reduce the possibility of eavesdropping.

The KX-TG4000B operates via cordless transmissions, so no expensive (and messy) wiring or installation is required. Simply hook up the base to your phone lines and plug it into an AC outlet. Then, set up the included KX-TGA400B handset in the desired location and plug in the recharging stand. Up to seven more optional KX-TGA400B handsets can be added to the system.

The convenient, reliable, all-digital voice mail includes many advanced features. The KX-TG4000B offers a general delivery mailbox on the base unit, plus up to eight personal mailboxes--one for each handset. Each user can record a personal greeting, and can access individual mailboxes from any system handset or an outside line. You can set the voice mail system to automatically answer all incoming calls with a recorded greeting, and to route callers to a desired extension or mailbox. The KX-TG4000B allows for four separate voice paths, so four system users can access voice mail at once.

This phone system also includes a digital duplex speakerphone with an eight-step volume control. Digital circuitry in the base unit helps reduce echo and the dropout effect for more natural-sounding conversations.

Dual caller ID with call waiting lets you view the name and number of all incoming callers on either the base unit or handset LCD--even if you're already on the line. This caller ID feature also stores up to 50 names on the base unit (up to 30 names on each handset), with direct callback capability. And thanks to caller ID pager call, you can even program the phone to notify your pager when you've received an incoming call, and to forward caller ID data to your pager's display. (Subscription to caller ID services is required.)

Other features includetwo-way intercom/paging, lighted handset keypad, headset jack in the handset, and a belt clip. The handset offers up to eight hours of talk time and up to 96 hours of standby battery life. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad handsets a major problem
We have used this system in a business for almost two years.Nearly every handset we have purchased is defective out of the box or shortly thereafter. The major problem is poor sound -- you can hardly hear the caller. With other units, the caller can't hear you.Out of the five handsets we're currently using (all out of warranty) one is good, three are so-so, and one is very bad. We're hoping to find an alternative, but need at least three lines.

1-0 out of 5 stars -2 STARSWORST $600.00 INVESTMENT EVER!!!!
Our office has had this system for two weeks. One handset has already gone bad and another keeps giving a message to move closer to the base unit.Funny thing is, you can be within a foot of the base unit and no reception. We are going to try the Motorola MD681 for half the price of the Panasonic.I'll Let you know about that later.

4-0 out of 5 stars Has flaws but a lot for the money
I've been using this system in a busy office for five years now.True, there are some annoying flaws you should know before buying.. Among them: no mute buttons, handset touch tone buttons that wear out easily, the need to buy extra handsets to set up extra voice mailboxes, lousy sound quality on the autoattendant outgoing message, no way to change the automated attendant remotely. But in general, the system does what they say it will do and it does it reliably.Once you get the hang of it, it's easy to set up.And you get the business functions, autoattendant, intercom, voicemail, remote access, etc, without having to pay a reseller thousands of dollars. There aren't a lot of products like this one.I hope it stays on the market.

2-0 out of 5 stars There is an alternative...
One person mentioned that this system was the "only game in town". Not true.

CentrePoint Technologies's TalkSwitch is a great alternative. If you purchase the Panasonic with a few extensions ($600+), you could easly own this unit for a comparable price. And it has more features, is much more versatile, and uses your existing equipment.

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST PHONE I EVER BOUGHT
I have purchased TWO Panasonic 4 line phone systems for my business. One was for our office in NY and one for our office in IL. I bought both systems through the Hello Direct website.

The #1 that you press on the hand set does not work. It is defective on ALL of our 6 hand sets that we own. This means we CAN NOT use the phone to dial out on long distance calls that need the use of the one.

We had bought and used the first system and then bought another system before we began the issues of the #1 not working. The first system in NY was the one to experience this problem , at first.

I proceeded to call the Panasonic GA office and they also would not deal with the issue.

At this point, now BOTH systems are incapable of being used. All we can do is just dial from the base and then pick up the line on the handset.

Today, we called cusomer service and spoke to Chris Cabutaje, a supervisor, and he told us there was nothing he could do. He even admitted there was a problem with this phone but still did nothing.

I think this is an outrage that a company this big cannot stand behind its product. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars finally returned to store
Terrible reception (bought from Best Buy for $94...much higher than Amazon).Worked with Motorola CS with no positive results.Replacing with Uniden 5.4 (already have several and should not have deviated from a known).

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
Wouldn't work out of the box.Continually received "out of range" message even when connected to the charger.Requires complicated "registration" procedure when used with additional handsets.Terrible owner's manual with absolutely no troubleshooting help.It went back for a refund the next day!

2-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I was looking for a handset that would not interfere with 2.4Ghz wireless that has taken over my neighborhood and caused many reception problems. Saw the Motorola 5.8Ghz and thought I'd give it a try after trying out a Panasonic 5.8Ghz which sounded like I was talking through atin can. Unfortunately Motorola was just a bit better on sound quality, but not much. The last part of every word gets cut off. I couldn't go far from the base without loosing signal and the volume was low to medium. Battery life was marginal at best.I am slightly hard of hearing, (but have perfect pitch) so having a little more juice in this department would be good. The features are okay but, layout and interface are primitive compared to other phones in this price range. I guess the3rd time is the charm because I ended up finding the5.8GHz Uniden Tru 8860-2 finally with normal human voice quality and volume when needed. The layout and functionality for the features are intuitive and easy where the phone is not drawing attention to itself because of it's quirkienessand low quality (Motorola and Panasonic.) Take it from me, if you are looking for a 5.8 Ghz phone, get the Uniden

2-0 out of 5 stars WARNING - Phone not compatible with cable phone service
These phones worked fine for us until we changed our phone service to a cable company - serviced phone line.I am no techy, so I don't know exactly what the problem was, but the phones WILL NOT RING.They recognize the incoming call, the phone lights up and the caller ID works, but no ring.

We spent almost an hour on the phone with Motorola and they finally concluded that the phone just would not ring with this phone service.

We are returning the phones and seeking another brand that is compatible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable features, dreadful audio
This phone has a reasonable set of features, and a good, compact form factor.Unfortunately the headset turns out to be uncomfortable and unwieldly to use, and more importantly the sound quality is appaling. It is frequently difficult to hear the other party at all: there is almost constant interference (the main reason for opting for a5.8GHz phone is not to get interference -- note also that I've used this set in two separate locations with the same results), the volume is too low, and even on maximum the hands-free remains almost inaudible.

Avoid. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst battery life I have ever seen
My first concern about this phone was the battery. I noticed immediately that the battery never stopped charging. I contacted Motorola and asked if this was normal. They said, "Yes, it never stops charging." That is insane! You can destroy the batteries very quickly if you keep charging them non-stop. So far the battery life has been very poor. I've probably already damaged my battery. Do not buy this phone. You will be very unhappy. I've had a number of complaints that my voice was breaking up. I attributed that to my VoIP service (Vonage). But now I'm wondering if it wasn't the phone. The audio quality is also very poor.

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone shouldn't be on the market
What? No "0 star" option? That's what this POS phone system deserves.

I was seduced by its clean design and good looks, but I literally had to throw this phone and two expansion handsets away. The problems:

(1) As other reviewers have noted, the menuing system was designed by an engineer with no interface design experience. Just basic things like putting "New Entry" as the first item on the Phonebook. Duh. That wouldn't fly after even the most rudimentary user testing. And, again, as others have noted, the "sharing phonebook" functionality described in the user manual DOES NOT WORK, which makes the phonebook somewhat useless.

(2) Battery life *is* bad.

(3) After using it for about a month there was terrible static on the line, even though the phone line checked out OK. I called Motorola and they said the phone should be 10 feet from any electrical appliance to avoid static. Huh? I think every household in America has a phone in the kitchen, where *appliances* are. What a joke.

(4) When a message is left and the caller hangs up, there is a burst of loud static at the end of the message. It's incredibly annoying.

Bottom line: DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! It's garbage that should not be available for purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars What has happened to Motorola?
I've had the phone for about two months, and as others have said, the sound quality is bad. Also, the sound drops out from time-to-time so we constantly have to ask the person on the other end to repeat things because we miss sylables or words. The hand set lasts for about 30 minutes before it has to be recharged.

Several times per week (sometimes per day), when the handset is replaced in the charging cradle, the base unit locks up and becomes non-functional.The only fix is to remove AC power and batteries from the base unit.Motorola customer support just keeps sending me instructions for removing the batteries from the handset, even though I've repeatedly explained that the problem is with the base unit.

I've had enough lousy products from Motorola over the last couple years that I'm finally starting to get it -- they don't make good producst anymore (I can't stand waiting for my cell phone to "boot").

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
Finally, a cordless phone that sounds like a "good old" phone. ... meaning the calls sound better than any I've heard from a cordless. We like the handset grip and find it appealing.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Bad Experience
I bought this from Amazon along with an extra handset. My kids loved the features and the retro look. But the sound was awful, dropping syllables, and sometimes whole words, of the person on the line so you had to guess what they were saying.Motorola tech support told me to move the phone away from all interference: refridgerators, stereos, lamps.Lamps?"I thought the 5.8 GHz was meant to resist interference.""No sir, these phones are very sensitive."So I found a corner of my house away from everything, even lamps.Same problem.I returned it to Amazon, losing $40 in fees and postage.Bought a Uniden 5.8 GHzat Sears that turned out to have all the features plus crystal clear sound.Even right next to the lamp! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
bought two. returned both.first unit broke after two days of light use, and was completely non-functional.Second unit confirmed performance issues I had with the first before it broke, so it was returned as well.

The speakerphone's full duplex action is not nearly as good as the marketing suggests. The microphone is rather weak, so my listeners tell me. The unit runs very hot all the time, which is a little worrisome. And even the handset doesn't give good voice transmission.i recorded a message with the handset and then listened to it, and it was mediocre quality.Sounded like I was on a headset, not the handset.

Wish this thing was as good as it looked.Still looking for a true top of the line quality 2-line speakerphone without voice mail.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Speaker phone
Got this phone because of the great success I had with Polycom phone systems in conference rooms accross Enterpise America.I am not disappointed. It is VERY loud and everyone has said I sound great.I think the echo-ing is a function of room dynamics.Mine are fine, but I have been in rooms where this has been a problem. If you like multi-tasking while on the phone, this is your phone (and mine).Full-Duplex is a must.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product at a rather high price.
This is a great phone for office. But the price is a bit higher than it shoud be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the price
With some trepidation I bought the PolyCom SoundPoint Pro #225 but it turns out to be just fine *for the price*.I suspect that a lot of the disappointment comes from making a direct comparison of this phone with the high end PolyCom equipment found in so many office conference environments.I think it's unrealistic to expect this desk top phone (...) to be as good as PolyCom's conference phones selling for three to four times as much.

It is the best desk top speaker phone I've used. The loud speaker perhaps emphasises the bass too much. Thus sometimes recorded voices sound "boomy" but normal conversation seems excellent. It's a bit like hearing voice programs on a high fi system designed for music.I find it definitely good to acceptable. My correspondents have reported good quality sound.

Full duplex operation is excellent *as long as the highest volume for the speaker isn't used*.This is important since at the maximum volume full duplex seems to break down a bit.I suspect that some of the disappointment comes from trying to use this phone at the high volumes normally used for a conference phone. For normal conversations at my desk, I find setting the volume up half way is plenty loud enough and full duplex works well.Conversations are extremely natural.

All in all, I find this a good desk top speakerphone, better than anything else I know of.Yes, I would like and would pay for something better in the configuration of a desk top phone.Until I find one this phone is serving me well.

Note: I would save the money of buying the model with the second speaker.I never use it.This is not a true conference phone.Buy a high end PolyCom phone for that. You won't be disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not good for the long haul
When I bought this phone about two years ago I was excited, expecting for the price that it would be a great speakerphone and have other good features.

All during my phone usage people I talk to through the speakerphone say it's echo-ey.My my office may be a bad place for a speakerphone.Along with some other reviewers, I have found the volume too low.

In the past year:
The ringer on line one has stopped working,
The hand set has stopped working,
The headset has begun to squeak in a piecing tone.

Overall, I'm in the market for a new phone, and this one is not on my list!Especially for the price--no way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unpretentious yet powerful
I have *fallen in love* with this phone since I bought it a week back. this is at the lower end of the panasonic 5.8ghz line of models.

These are the reasons I like the fone

* 5.8ghz which will not interrupt with my wi-fi networks
* Handset speakerphone - Very good quality
* 3-4 monotone and 3 music ringers (can be customized for callers)
* Handset light indicator - 3 colors - again can be customized for callers - Useful when you want silent option
* Excellent range and call quality

It does not have the following features

* Dual Keypad
* Ringer for base
* Answering machine
* Caller id announcement
* and some more

These do not bother me since I knew what I was buying. Obviously if you need these there are higher end panasonic models that you can go for. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great For Dish Receiver - Caller ID
This is a great inexpensive solution if your satellite receiver is caller id ready and a phone line is not close to your television.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty much does the job.
This device is not perfect. You can't get a perfect dial tone in every situation. But you can alter the envirement and make it flawless.

What I've found is that if there is any power hunger device nearby - computer, lamp, tv, etc - it distorts the signal. However, you only need to worry about proximity to electronics with the reciever, not the base.

Here's my setup: I got Voice over IP, so my phone line goes through my router.I have the base station in my room, and my VoIP phone line goes into the base station. The reciever is in the basement, attached to a power line that comes directly off the circuit breaker so it gets a strong signal.Down there, the phone line conects to all the phones in the house so all the outlets run off voice over IP.

Again - in my situation, the signal is great.Just make sure it will fit yours.

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely poor performer for me
Once connected, this unit resulted in so much static on the line, that my Tivo could not successfully make its nightly call to download new guide information.

After lots of testing, I found that the unit simply would not work unless it was within about 10-15 feet of the base unit. An amazingly short distance for a device such as this.

I then headed down to the best buy and picked up the RCA version of this device and it has worked flawlessly. An interesting note here - both devices appear to be identical as far as their guts are concerned. In fact, the instructions for both items were identical - the exact same words used on every page.

I am not sure why there was such a difference in performance (perhaps I just got one that was off a bit), but I would suggest you think twice on this item. I was able to return it but had to pay all shipping costs - something you don't have to do if you need to return it to the local store.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect
This is exactly what I was looking for.I did not have a phone jack by my Tivo and had put off buying one.I was able to install this in about 10 minutes...it only took this long because I put the transmitter upstairs...and it still worked fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for DirecTV with Tivo
I bought this item when I bought my direcTV system with tivo.Standalone Tivo's can be home networked with your broadband connections so it didn't used to matter that there was no phone line nearby...but DirecTV has not enabled that functionality yet so you have to have the receiver plugged into the phone line.

Was very pleased with this product...works fantastic in this application. ... Read more

Product Description

Following the success of 900 MHz frequency phones, 2.4 GHz phones transmit at even a higher frequency. If you already own one or more 900 MHz telephones, consider a 2.4 GHz model when you are looking to add an additional cordless telephone. Many 2.4 GHz phones can transmit greater amounts of data than lower-frequency units. VTech calls this greater bandwidth. One advantage of greater bandwidth is the ability to link multiple handsets to a single base unit.Add this expansion handset/charger to your base unit to turn your cordless telephone into a multi-handset system. Imagine, up to 4 cordless phones with only one phone jack! Features include call waiting ID, 50 name-and-number phone book directory and handset speakerphone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great features; not so great durability
Phone has good sound quality in handset and speakerphone mode, great range from base station, easy to use presets and other dialing functions. However, many of the keys have already become somewhat lame. They now require you to press very hard; I have missed more than one call because the on/answer button simply would not respond no matter how hard I pressed it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and not so good
This phone system met our needs perfectly (two lines, no messaging system, speaker phone, multiple handset capability) and from that point of view its been a really good phone. However, the keypads on the handsets have become problematic:you have to really press hard to get a number to register and when you do you often get multiples of the one number you're trying to type.

5-0 out of 5 stars Also Works With VTech 20-2489 System.
This VTech 20-2420 Accessory Handset also works with the VTech 20-2489 Expandable Phone system.

The 20-2489 system is identical to the VTech 20-2481 Expandable Phone system, except that the 20-2489 system has a 20-2420 handset (with stand/charger) included in the box, for a total of *two* handsets, instead of just one.

5 stars because it works well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone system
This is a terrific, well-priced, and reliable phone. Reception is clear, battery life is adequate and it is simple to use. I have tried many, more expensive systems and the v-tech 2 line is the best. Additional phones can be added seamlessly and you do not need an outlet in every room. The answering machine can be acceseed from any handset and the paging functions work quite well. I now have 5 phones using 2 lines on the system and am very pleased.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Great
The expandable two line phone solved all our phone problems. It has been very reliable and I have added to the system so we now have four phones plus the base. A good buy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Phones don't give warning...just go dead!
We bought the main 2431 with 2 add'l handsets.ALL the phones, when the battery is low it goes "Beep beep beep" as a warning and then dies!!!By the time we search for another one the call has been disconnected.I have another VTech phone that's not near as expensive and it warns when battery is low and gives you 3 minutes or so to change the battery.

4-0 out of 5 stars V-Tech expandable phones
I have this set.I actually have the base one with 2 expandables.I love it, works well.I have an apartment with only 1 good jack.So this helps me to have a phone in just about every room. You can even replace them on the others handset with no problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars you can stop looking for a phone now.
I bought the V Techphone systemover 3 years ago and I am still very happy with it. Great features, great looking phone. I have one in almost every room of my house. If you get the base model then you can expand the system to 4 phones. A really great thing if you have teenagers in your house. It has an intercom system which is a nice convenience too. It is reasonably priced and full of all the features that you could possibly want. A great buy for the money. Finallly, a terrific phone with all the features for the average household.! Teenagers love it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone - well worth the money
I was in severe need of a good cordless phone with a Caller ID Display right on the handset (which is so conveinent).I shopped around in every possible electronics store and found nothing that I liked...all the phones were ugly and had no good features.

I jumped onto Amazon and this phone system popped up I loved it at first for it's sleek look and then I read more about the phone and immediately ordered it, it was the best thing I did. This phone is excellent it has great features, distance, sound, clarity and it's lightweight and is a real nice looking phone. It has the Caller ID display right on the handset and the best feature that I love is the Message Waiting.I have home voicemail through my local telephone company and I was never able to tell if I had any messages unless I picked up my phone and dialed into my mailbox. This phone has a green light on the handset and the base that will blink when you have messages and on the display it will read "Messages Waiting"...I love it!I just ordered the supplemental handset for our bedroom and can't wait to get so I can junk my old cordless. If you are thinking buying this phone....do it!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features/Easy to use
Needed a phone for an addition to the house that we did not put a phone jack in.There are many phones that can handle this but this phone has all the nice features needed for family and working from home a few days a week. The ability for each handset to be its' own speakerphone is great. We also utilize the intercom feature for the phones. You can page each phone you have (4 is the max) and the person in the room will hear it ring as if it were a phone call. The digital voice on the answering machine is very easy to understand and the multiple mailbox feature is another nice thing to have (not needed now, but will in the future). Many other features that are handy as well.So far so good. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
Before I bought this phone, I had a 7-year-old Toshiba 2.4GHz phone and a 7-year-old Panasonic digital answering machine. I had to replace the phone because it interfered with our wireless network, and I figured I'd get a new answering machine at the same time - 7 years later, the technology must be better, I reasoned.

Not so. The sound quality on this phone OK, but worse than on my old phone. And the sound quality of the answering machine is unacceptaby muffled. But those are the first of several big disappointments. The phone has nearly no sidetone, meaning you don't hear yourself speaking in the earpiece. This makes every call uncomfortable. When the phone is on the base station ringing and you pick it up, it doesn't get "picked up" - you have to press a button. Likewise, hanging it up doesn't hang it up. When you press the button to talk, there's a 1-second delay before the caller can hear you, so you end up saying hello twice. Oh, let's see. The "wallpaper" backgrounds are insanely amateurish. No matter how badly you draw, you draw better than the Michelangelos who made this thing. Next: some features are configured on the screen on the base station, while some are configured with an audio interface. The distinction is random. The icons on the phone are highlighted with a movable square outline - except that some of them ARE squares, so the highlight disappears. My outgoing message is unintelligible - I had to yell into the thing, and you can still barely hear me.

This phone would be a bargain at $10, a reasonable deal at $20, a ripoff at $30. I paid $110. Not happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a phone that has it all
I had an AT & T phone, when it quit I bought another brand of answering machine and phone. Within 2 weeks I was looking for a new AT&T. They have volumes adjustments for the ringer, they have the toll saver option which is great when you check your messages and it it just a great sounding phone. I had bought a GE and had terrible results. I was told to return the phone and expect a new one in 4 weeks. What a joke. Thank goodness Amazon had AT&T.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy, great sound, decent features
I did a resasonable amount of research prior to purchasing this phone. We have owned several cordless phones over the years, different manufacturers, operating frequencies, etc. My wife and I are VERY happy with this phone (and the E580-I handset we bought to go with it). It is solid, sounds WONDERFUL, including the amazing (to me) handset-based speaker phone, and has very nice features. We don't use all of the bells and whistles, but just as a cordless phone it is the most solid and wonderful sounding phone I have ever used. The answering machine is great, easy to set up and easy to use, sounds good, time tags calls, etc. You can even listen to messages from the handset (we've done that a few times).

I agree w/ others that it would be nice to have a single call number database/memory that is shared by all handsets, but that's the only (minor) complaint I have.

Oh yes, I purchased the optional base station backup battery and our phone worked all through a recent multi-hour power failure. Nice! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great when they get it right!
I've been looking for a high-quality multi-line office phone for several months, and have had a few bad experiences. It seemed that I got what I paid for, which was low-price, low-quality, and I just couldn't find a good solution for less than several hundred (or thousand)dollars.

My criteria for selection (in no particular order) were: 1) 2 to 4 line support, 2) Speed dial buttons, 3) Caller ID/Call Waiting ID, 4) Headset support, 5) Adjustable volume for receiver (ability to make the caller sound louder), 6) Expandable (support for extensions that work together with each other), 7) Intercom between extensions, 8) Call Transfer, 9) Conference calling, 10) Speakerphone, 11) Line priority (which line is selected when you pick up to make a call).

The GE 29488GE2 Corded Phone not only includes all of these features, but even more than I could have expected. My biggest pet peeve about phones is when you can't hear your caller, and you have no way to adjust the volume. With the GE phone, you just touch the Volume Up button while you're on the call, and the volume is increased. This isn't a "fake" or "placebo" feature. The voice of the caller is actually amplified, and you can increase it to levels that border on uncomfortably loud.

The multi-line support (this one supports 4 lines), is integrated perfectly into the phone, and functions exactly as you might expect (definitely how I would expect). When the phone rings, you just pick up the handset, hit the Speaker button, or hit the Headset button (if you have a headset) to answer. You don't have to press the ringing line button first.

Likewise, to make a call, you just pick up the handset, and an open line is selected. The Line Priority feature lets you set which line is automatically selected when you take the phone off the hook to make a call. This is very helpful to me, because I have the phone programmed to select my second line, rather than using my first line for outgoing calls.

The phone has 16 speed dial/intercom buttons. Programming is a snap using the 4-line backlit LCD display. Each button can hold a dialed number and double as an intercom number. You can even program a button to use the numbers stored in other buttons to make calls. This is very handy when you have a calling card and need to dial several numbers before/after the actual number. You can program in your calling card and access numbers once into a button or two, and then reference those buttons in the dialing sequence you program into the remaining buttons. Even the length of pauses can be programmed.

The Caller ID display has a very interesting feature that lets you program the phone not to save any "Unknown" or "Blocked" caller information in the Caller ID history.

When you plug in a GE 29488GE2 phone, it immediately starts looking for other phones on your lines. Each phone can be identified by a programmable name and a station number, up to 16 phones.

Each of the 4 lines can be set with independent ringing options, such as volume, tone and whether or not Caller ID information will be displayed for that line.

You can also program the phone to automatically answer and go into Speakerphone mode when it is called via the intercom from another phone.

The phone is powered by an A/C adapter, but also has a battery compartment for 3 AA batteries for Caller ID backup.

It also has a data jack on the back that you can plug your fax or answering machine into, along with a switch that lets you select which of the 4 lines the device will access.

All-in-all, this phone has the most features and functionality for the price. Its functionality is very well integrated and it operates predictably. It is easy to program.

My only negative comments are: 1) It comes with two 2-line phone cords, but not any adapters to merge two separate lines into one cord. If you have two separate phone jacks on the wall, you'll need a 2-to-1 coupler for each set of 2 lines. 2) The instruction manual says you can only use one specific brand and model of headset, which you must order by phone from one vendor. This isn't terrible, though, because the headset is about $30 with shipping, but you should be prepared for this extra expense if you want a headset for the phone. 3) The manual gives great step-by-step programming and use instructions, but could spend a little more time explaining the features and what they may be used for.

I've tried numerous multi-line cordless phones, too, and none of them had the features, functionality or quality of this corded phone. At this price, I can afford to have several of them spread throughout my office, and I don't need to worry about fussing with a cordless and all of its related problems. This phone has some weight to it, too, so you feel like you're getting a quality product.

Bottom line is if you need or want a phone with these features, this is the phone for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Almost a good telephone
Found all funtions of the phone to work ok. All volume levels were great and could be adjusted for headset, handset, and speaker. Design is great though display is a bit hard to see if phone is not propped up in the rear. The big disappointment is when putting a call on hold. My customer advised be that while on hold there is some type of ringing sound and the customer hears. This was a pain when I needed to put a 20 person conference call on hold. Everyone on the call heard the tones. My old IBM and my AT&T multiline phone don't have this problem.

Next disappointment was technical support. I contacted them regarding the tones being heard while on hold and was advised that all I could do was remove all power, phone lines and batteries for 10 minutes to try and get the phone to go back to factory defaults. I did this and the problem was still there. I asked to be sent to next level of support since the person I was talking to was just reading from teh manual and was told the she was it. Were it not for the 1 issue with a tone while on hold this would be a great phone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for LG VX6000
Plantronics has produced a quality product that is both functional and comfortable. The noise cancelling technology works exetremely well, as all my callers comment that they can not hear background noise while I am on the road.My wife has a Jabra, supposedly with noise cancelling, and it does not function nearly as well at reducing background noise. As far as comfort, the flexgrip earpiece is easy to put in your ear while driving and stays secure.

I highly recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Plantronics X150
Got this headset for my birthday. It is very compfortable and the quality of the reception is great.Everyone says I sound better on the headset than I do when I am not using it.It is a bit awkward the way it clips to your ear but I am getting used to it.

I would highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great when they work...
This headset is light and comfortable and works very well with most cell phones.Unfortunately, they always seem to die on me.I've gone through five MX150s in the last eight months.I buy them in pairs now so I always have a backup.I can't find anything I like better, so I keep going down this road, but be prepared for problems if you are a heavy user. Also, do not buy this headset if you are looking to use it with a Uniden TRU8885 Cordless Phone. You will have significant outbound volume problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect
Hey. This is a perfect little headset. I've had it for a year now. People can't tell I'm on a cell phone. Excellent at blocking outside noise, and I can hear everything crystal clear on the receiving end. Great Buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT PANASONIC PRODUCT!
I've only had this phone a few days, but I'm very happpy
with it! My main concern was the speakerphone. I'm happy
to say it works perfectly. It's very loud, and very clear!
The extra large buttons are a plus for me, because my fingers
are very weak. The only feature this phone doesn't have is,
caller I.D., I don't use this feature anyway, so no big deal.
If you're looking for a great speakerphone, with a great
answering machine, for under $50.00, you'll love this phone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good phone for a good price
Since I knew Panasonic was known for their phones, I purchased this answering machine/phone for a good price here at Amazon.

What I like about this phone.
- It has an All-Digital Answering System. A microship records your greeting message. But what if you don't want to record a mesage? Well, it comes with a pre-recorded message from the factory. So you don't need to record a greeting message if you think you don't have a good voice or something like that. This answering machine lets you record 15 minutes of messages. It may not be enough for some people, but it's enough for me.
- When you play the messages, the phone tells you the day and the time each of the messages was recorded.
- You can listen to your messages from another phone. For example, if you're on vacation, you can call your house from the hotel and listen to your messages and delete them if you want.
- It has Voice Enhacer Technology. It helps clarify and improve sound reception.
- It has 7 selectable ringtones. For people who don't want just a plain ring.
- Handset Speakerphone. This feature is important when you're calling a company and you have to go through their menu. With other cordless phones you have to listen to the menu, take the phone away from your ear, look down at the keypad, and dial. With this phone you don't have to do that. Just press the Hands-Free button and you can listen to the menu without having the phone close to your ear. You can adjut the volume if you want.
- It comes with a Shoulder Rest Attachment and a Belt Clip.
- It's wall mountable.
- If you don't have it on the wall, you can have it on your desk or table. It has a special back so that it doesn't sit flat on the surface.
- You can place the phone on the base in two ways. The picture shows one way to place it (showing the keypad). You can also place so that it shows the back instead.
- Lighted Keypad.
- Big Buttons.

What I don't like about this phone:
- I haven't found anyhing wrong with this phone yet. It's only a month old, though. If I find something, I'll let you know. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best phone I've ever owned!!!
This is the best telephone I have ever owned. The reception is great!!!
(And yes it does have a back light on the clock.)
I love the speaker phone, it works great and anyone I have spoken to using the speaker phone feature informs me I sound clear with no breaking up. I also love the different melodies for the ring tones, it has one that has a soft melody so it doesn't scare me from my sleep if someone calls late at night, or early mornings. Not having to run wires to a telephone outlet is another great feature too. Just plug it in your wall and register it to the base unit and your in business. It works great all around the house even the basement.
I very happy with it!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I had no choice but to go 5.8 because the 2.4 phones were causing my wireless internet to drop. And the reason I went with this set is because I switched to vonage and did not want mess with the existing phone wiring. So I bought this phone system with 3 additional handsets. They work great. And the clock is back lit. I don't see brightness settings but the default backlit setting is good enough to make seeing the clock in the dark easy. And the ability to store 5 radio stations and have alarm clock functions is great. I do have one handset not registering though. I am working with Panasonic on that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes there's a bnacklight and it's a great phone
I have to admit, I almost did not get this expansion handset for my panasonic phone set-up.The previous reviewer said that it did not have a backlight for the clock, that is not true.I have it set up next to my bed and the backlight has two intesity levels. So, now I have a great 5.8 gig phone with a nice little clock radio/alarm.I'mhappy.

3-0 out of 5 stars No back lighting on the clock -- Useless!
i was interested in this product but since i has no backlit clock -- no sale. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Junky
The layout and functionality for the features are intuitive and easy where the phone is not drawing attention to itself because of it's quirkieness and low quality audio(Motorola and Panasonic.) Take it from me, if you are looking for a 5.8 Ghz phone, get the Uniden.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too hot!
earpiece on MD71 handset gets uncomfortably hot when in use. the same is also true of base model MD761.

4-0 out of 5 stars No syncronization with the primary handset
As with the MD751 (required to use this expansion phone), this phone offers superior sound quality. In my opinion Panasonic is the best when it comes to sound quality, but this was a close second and was a vast improvement over all AT&T, VTech and GE phones I tried. The features are excellent, including expandability, handsfree/speakerphone, and all the other standard bells and whistles for a top of the line phone. The one feature that seems unique to Motorola is the Area Code Format feature.Among other things, this means that when I get a call from a long-distance area code, it either knows to add a 1 at the beginning or allows me to change the format to do so to facilitate calling back that number without needing to key it in manually.I have not found this on any other phone and it is a great feature. The only problem I have is that there is a lack of connectivity between the expansion units and the base units. Each phone is more or less designed to work on its own, so it is necessary to manually delete caller ID logs from each phone and to store auto-dial and Area Code Format preferences separately as well.Still, this is a great buy even at the high price. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars If you love static, buy this phone.
I have had this phone for a year and a half. It is in a room where it is rarely used. The static is terrible and changing channels doesn't help. I have used it in more than one home with no change in quality. Now I am beginning to have other problems--works in one location and not another. Buy at your own risk.

2-0 out of 5 stars STATIC
I just bought this phone 3 days ago and I have had a problem witht he static coming from the handset while the phone is one the base.It is loud and annoying.I initally liked the way the phone looked and after using it I thought it was a really good buy until the static started. It will be returned today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Intermittant static when on base!
I liked this phone until I got it home. When the handset is sitting on the base, the handset will intermittantly emit static every few seconds - CONSTANTLY.But only when its sitting on the base. I even took it to work and tried plugging it in at my desk and it did the same thing (I live in an older house and thought it might be the 50+ year old electrical - nope!)I've had it for 5 days and its going back tonight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello?
This is a great phone! We have two and my daughter loves her purple version!Buy it!

3-0 out of 5 stars skeptic
I purchased mine in May '04. So far no problems but the phone is rarely used. I was going upgrade to additional models but I think I will hold out and see how long this one lasts. I was skeptical purchasing a motorola model after working for a cellular company and motorola's answer to all phone problems was one of three things your carrier, physical damage or water damage. Like I said so far no problems, clear sound and battery lasting a good length of time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Phone!!!
I have always wondered why Cordless phones had to be so big.
Finally Uniden came out with this new line of Cordless flip phones.
I don't know why...but I seem to buy 1 new cordless phone per year.
So, I feel I'm a bit of an expert on nearly every upscale 5.8 phone on the market having tried nearly all of them.
The best thing about this Uniden, and a big surprise to me is the GREAT sound on both receiving and talking. My brother actually told my my Uniden sounds BETTER than my corded phone. The range is very good as well. My only slight criticisim is you can hear YOURSELF a bit too much in the earpiece. I do like to hear a little of my own voice in the earpiece but in my opinion Uniden messed this part up slightly. However I owned the top of the line AT&T and V TECH 5.8 phones. On those you can't hear yourself AT ALL, thru the earpiece. To me THAT was very disconcerting and I felt disconnected while speaking on these phones.
So again The Uniden's overall sound is simply THE best I've heard...
As far as a FUN/feature rich phone I can see no phone being better than this Uniden. It even has little animated animals showing you time duration of phone call etc. I LOVE the downloadable ringer faeture. You can record 20 seconds of GOOD quality sound...and make it your ringer. For me just for fun...I have a Favorite Beatle song as my ringer. You can also assign different ringers to different callers....very useful.
Another nice feature is you can upload your favorite pictures to this phone and use them for the background wallpaper.
I can go on and on...but it's ALL good news with this phone.
I don't think any cordless phone can top this phone now or in the near future. As a side note, Amazon.com is a great place to buy this product! 24 hours after placing my order this phone went on sale at Amazon. A quick note to Amazon... they adjusted my price down to the new lower price...with a very considerate letter from Cus Service. I'm a big fan of Amazon...!
Back to this Uniden...
You will LOVE this phone! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Erratic behaviour makes it nearly useless
I had two samples of this telephone then gave up on it in disgust. Both samples behaved the same way. Obvious faults:

- Sometimes people on the other end could not hear me at all when I picked up a call using the speakerphone. I had people hang up because they thought the line was dead.

- I could hear my own voice loudly (louder than the person on the other end) in the earpiece when using a headset (so loud it even got feedback and squealed once).

- The volume seemed to vary substantially from one call to the next. I never notice such variations on calls from the same people on our other phones.

- The angle of the (rather small) display is such that you can't read it unless you lean over the top of the phone.

- Ugliest handest ever. :-)

This could be a really nice unit - it has some great features I haven't seen in other phones, but it seems like Polycom haven't quite gotten the design right, which is inexcusable for the price. We have Nortel phones at work; those seem to work far better, but I haven't found a domestic version.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked Well For Three Days
Ordered this phone because I work out of a home office and the GE 2 line phone I have is not a good speaker phone. The Polycom SE-220 worked fine for the first three days.On the forth day, I noticed that the phone would no longer place or receive calls, and an earlier time of 2:34 p.m. was on the display. This apparently was when the phone decided to die.No amount of disconnecting the power supply to attempt to re-set the phone worked.

The phone is shipping back to Amazon today.I am disappointed in that I really need a good speakerphone, but this is not it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice, but not quite near the quality advertised
Overall this phone looks nice and looks professional, but its performance could be matched by other consumer-level phones with similar if not more features.

I hooked mine up immediately after receiving it (the day before the date of this review) and made my first call using the headset (a Polycom headset, which I already owned). As another reviewer experienced, I heard feedback of my own talking through the ear piece. This is something I never experienced with the same headset plugged into my 2.4Ghz Uniden handheld phone.

Polycom describes the speakerphone this way:

"SoundPoint? Pro SE-220 seamlessly integrates handset and headset telephone functionality with crystal clear, hands-free voice conferencing in an elegant personal business phone. .... Polycom?s Acoustic Clarity Technology enables callers to speak when they want without clipped sentences and one-way conversations that are common with ordinary business speakerphones."

I didn't find this to be the case consistently. During the first moments of my first speakerphone call, there was clipping/reduced quality on both ends. However, this can be expected and the Troubleshooting section of the Soundpoint manual explains that the phone must adjust and to give it a few moments. In fact, I found this to be the case, on MY end. After several moments, the quality of sound/voice call through the speaker was very good.

However, the sound quality on the receiver's end stayed poor. I was told that I sounded muffled and that while longer sentences came across fine, any short sentences or one-word answers were clipped. There was also a huge difference to my call participant when I picked up the headphones or handset. This call was over 5 minutes and I would expect the "adjustment" time per the manual to be much less than this. Also, it did not matter whether I moved the phone closer or farther away, or talked more directly into the microphone. On the other hand, several calls since then were of much better quality and the people on the other end thought that it sounded better than a typical, cheaper (e.g., non-Soundstation type) speakerphone. However, they could still typically tell that I was on speaker.

I was initially very disappointed in this phone and even processed a return for it as "defective." However, I may just keep it after all - it's not a "bad" phone.

Otherwise, if you're willing to chance or accept the performance, the phone looks nice, the buttons are layed out nicely, and the features seem pretty easy to use.

Just keep in mind that you should not expect, to any realistic degree, that this phone will provide the quality of a Soundstation, or perhaps not even of a Voicestation. My understanding is that one can pick up a new Uniden 2.4 Ghz phone from some places for about $100, that comes with several handsets with speaker capability. That might not be a good solution for you, but I'm just highlighting that this Soundpoint is certainly not the be-all and end-all of SOHO business speakerphones.

You may be very happy with this one, but you should look at all options: Don't necessarily buy this phone due to the Polycom name or your positive experiences with their high-end products.

-2 Star for poor headset performance (surprisingly, with a Polycom headset). The phone has a built-in amplifier, but I can't find a way to adjust it.
-1 stars for inconsistent speakerphone performance (+1 for speaker on the phone end, -2 for performance on the receiver's end)

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality - Needs finishing touches
Here is my impression of this phone (you will find resemblance to what some folks have already said, as I too have discovered the same strengths/weaknesses). I would actually give the phone a 3.5, as it has good quality, but some of the shortcomings are just too large to justify a 4 or 5:

Good Sound Quality
- incoming speakerphone quality is not the best I've heard, but acceptable
- outgoing quality is terrific
- internal amplifier for headset allows good quality headsets to be used without needing an additional amplifier (which would require running the headset through the handset, requiring handset to be off hook when headset is in use)

Poor design shortcomings that even cheap phones provide:
- no notification of calls missed on caller id - must navigate menus, which to me is unacceptable for a phone of this level, and really impacts the ease of use of this phone
- no data port to piggy back a single line to other phones, etc
- no backlit display, and poor phone angle (IMHO, there should be the ability to adjust the phone tilt angle) make for poor visual reading of phone

Overall, a nice phone that provides good speakerphone quality, a trait that is truly more difficult to find than one would think (I've tried several phones, only to be disappointed time and again). But it also has some obvious shortcomings that need to be addressed to make it more user friendly. If you can deal with the lack of missed call notification (which may be a sticking point for me, only time will tell), this phone will suit you well.

2-0 out of 5 stars El Stinko
This phone simply stinks. I have had nothing but problems with it. Although the sound quality is fairly good (not great), I frequently encounter lock-ups, in which case I have to unplug the phone and reset it. Also, something has happended to the phone so that it now constnatly displays both phone lines as being in use, regardless of whether any line is acutally being used. I replaced it with a GE phone with better displays and which cost about $75.00 less. Avoid at all costs. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good phone but zero battery life
Before I mention some of the phone's good qualities, I must state that I too have horrible battery life. This phone, even after replacing the battery, will only stay on for 10-20 minutes. If you leave it off the charger overnight, the next day it will be dead.

The phone, when it does work, has good sound quality during calls. The plastic buttons are large but they are too smooth and slippery. I would prefer a more silicone-like material and grip to them.Menu system is easy to use.If it weren't for that major battery problem, this could be a 4 or 5 star phone. This phone should come w/ a corded phone to use while your phone is charging.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had read these reviews before I spent the MONEY!!!!
It seems as though most of the people that wrote a review have the same exact problem that I have had with our phone... I researched this purchase thoroughly, and felt that even though it was very expensive, it had all the things we needed in a phone for our home. Soon after setting it up (within 3 months of purchase) we began having problems with the phone keeping a charge. We were going to buy a new battery, but decided to call panasonic customer service to see if they had any information about it. Pat answers... the said that they would send us a new battery and that should solve the problem. We waited and waited and waited, no battery came so we called and called and called...now we had to leave our information on a service and someone would get back to us, no one did.... still no battery!!! I couldn't believe it and I was so sick of the situation I went online to see if I could get some answers there... I was sure there had to be some type of recall or something, I mean this thing didn't work!Within 24 hours a tech emailed me back saying that I should send the unit back to Panasonic and they would check it out, if there was a problem they would send me a new (refurbished) unit, since it was under warranty (covered for the first year, which if you think about it is really rediculous, shouldn't it work for at least a few years?) I decided to send it in. I had to pay to send it to Texas, and there was a problem, (I was relieved, at least there was something they could do about it!) so they sent me a whole new system (refurbished!)... the new (refurbished!) unit only comes with a 90 day warranty, which is about how long it took for the problems to arise again... within a few months, the phone began to cut out after about 20 minutes of use, and now, it barely holds a charge for more than afew minutes... I have also had the same problem with the display saying to move closer to base, when I have been standing right in front of it... so basically it is worthless... the worst part? I still need a phone and this is the only one that has all the options we need... so I called Panasonic and I emailed them too, they said that for a charge (not cheap) they will look at it and see what is wrong.... etc, basically the same thing as before, are they kidding? I won't be buying from Panasonic ever again... I was pissed off before when it was just my phone, but knowing that so many people are having the exact same problem really is aggravating. I can't believe that they do not stand byt their product and I have no confidence in their company as a result. I will never, ever buy from Panasonic again!!
I wouldn't if I were you either!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice features, terrible battery, quality problems
Had this phone for 1.5 years. Like features, i.e. directory that can be shared and sent across the base unit and a handset or ability to correct a number before dialing it (like in a cell phone).

From the very beginning battery life was a problem. It was around 1-1.5 hour talk time. Do not even think about having a conference call with this phone. It got worse and worse and currently I get ~30-40 min. talk time after charging for more than a day. My very old 900MHz Uniden gives me around 5-6 hours of talk time.

Sometime after using a phone for ~6 months LCD display on the handset started failing when the battery is fully charged. After talking on the phone for a few minutes display starts working again. The problem is that you need display when you are dialing.

The sound quality is OK. It is not better than analog 900Mhz Uniden but not worse.

I was pleasantly surprised than I do not get any interference with WiFi 802.11 B/G network.

Very disappointed in quality of implementation even though like features in this 2-line phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE SYSTEM, one MAJOR failing
I love it, but- today I discovered, you cannot change the outgoing (greeting) messaging from remote access.

I needed to put in a temp message, and it's just not possible from anywhere but at the base/at home...

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad batteries small display
Worked (OK) for a couple months. Batteries got progressively short charge. Display is so small and poorly lit. Tried to contact tech support - no response. Hard to find a good pickle! ... Read more
