3-0 out of 5 stars Decent phone for the price...some flaws.
I was so excited when I purchased this phone. We had 2 Panasonic 900MHz cordless phones. We LOVED these, but we decided that it was time for an upgrade. For the price, you get 3 phones that have good reception and AT&T quality as far as durability is concerned. They are attractive and a decent buy overall. My main problem is that the base does not allow transfer of info to the other handsets (ie phone books), you have to manually put numbers in each one of the handsets. There is no message waiting indicator light if you subscribe to the phone company's voicemail. The indicator is for the answering machine connected to the phone (which I don't use). If you choose to take the clock display off, the phone shows the handset number(which for some reason is annoying to me!).Also, the time doesn't automatically set. You have to set the time on each phone seperately. Again, the At&t phones look nice and have some good features, but the problems are what have made me give this a not so perfect review.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disposable
I have the base and three other handsets.Best I can say is that they work. The problems would seem to have simple solutions--they must have rushed this to market without putting on the finishing touches.
Problems:
(1) The handsets don't synch with the base with respect to time, caller ID, and memory dialing. You have to repeatedly set the time on each handset. And caller ID only records on the handset where you take the call.Same issue with memory--who wants to punch inmemory dial numbers on 4 separate handsets.
(2) The text on the screen (numbers, letters, and a digitied analogue clock) look very Atari.
(3) The controls on the base simply stink--not intuitive and somewhat clumsy.
Pros:
The system isn't that expensive.Buy it, keep it for a couple of three years, and dispose.

2-0 out of 5 stars functional but not perfect
I had a Sony multiple handset phone that I LOVED.Unfortunately, I found, when I moved into a bigger house, that the phone had been discontinued, and I could no longer get additional handsets for it.

I purchased the AT&T 5840 to replace it, and I suppose my disappointment with the handsets is probably more based on the fact that they pale in comparison to the former Sony ones, than that there is anything intrinsically wrong with them.

My primary complaints with the handsets are these:

1. The blue light that indicates that the handset is charging is bright enough to make it hard for me to get to sleep at night.

2. The caller ID lists incoming calls strictly based on what the phone company has in their system (i.e. "Cellular Call" instead of the name of the caller). The Sony phone would display a name for any number I had stored in memory (so if I had stored a number as "Annoying Guy" that is what the caller ID would say when that person called - and of course it also displayed my friends' names or nicknames as I had entered them too). This was particularly useful for me, as I have a terrible memory for numbers, and need a name in order to know who is calling. This is the feature I am most disappointed about losing.

3. The phone does not automatically store caller ID numbers in a format that allows me to call back with a single button press. In order to call a person back from the caller ID feature, I have to hit CID, then OPT #, and then select the appropriate number format.Although this process is not excessively difficult, it's annoying when I used to have a phone that allowed me to simply hit 'talk' to call a person back.It is also more difficult due to issue number 4 below.

4. The menu buttons 'wear out.'After regularly using the menu buttons for about a year, I have found that it now requires me to really push them hard, and sometimes several times, to get them to work.

I would recommend this phone to people who a) have a great memory for numbers and don't need a name listed on the caller ID and b) people who don't push buttons often. It does what a phone is meant to do, and so far, aside from the failing button issue, I have had no maintenance issues with it.I just became spoiled with all the features of my previous phone, and this one just doesn't come close in comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect phone!
I'm fussy about small buttons, hard to program menues, poorly lighted dials....this phone has none of that! The talking caller ID on the base unit is terrific and the plug in add-on units are very convenient.Very good reception, easy to use call log...I like this phone a lot!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quality, please disregard incorrect information...
For the reviewer who commented that the display was soft plastic and scratched easily, it should have been completely obvious that this was only a tear-off protective covering for the real hard plastic display. The display is excellent, very sturdy, and I have yet to scratch it.

My only criticism is that all of the digital machines these days have poor high frequency response (due to low bit-rate recording and poor antialiasing) which makes softer voices or those who mumble a little bit hard to understand. This machine is no different, I also own a GE digital and find some people are completely unintelligible.

However this machine offers FAR superior features to any other digital machine I've used, is more intuitive (like a cassette machine), and does sound quite good for most voices.I actually find it's sound to be better than my GE even though I've read otherwise by some people.I think some people think louder is better (which can be I suppose), but I prefer intelligibility.Actually I like both, but that is hard to find with digital machines under $100.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not up to usual Panasonic quality
I've had a couple of Panasonic answering machines over the last 25 years, and they all seemed to be built of high-quality materials. But as soon as I unpacked this one I saw what appeared to be a big scratch mark across the LCD display panel cover. When I rubbed it with a soft cloth to see if it might be a grease mark instead, it only caused another mark along side it.

My previous two Panasonic answering machines had a hard plastic cover over their displays - I don't know why they changed to soft plastic on this one.

So I returned it for a refund.

4-0 out of 5 stars It does the job
This machine was fairly easy to set up.I like it when the instructions are clear, and these are. When I read the other reviews, I noticed that some people pointed out that it's necessary to not speak too close to the microphone when recording the greeting -- I heeded that warning, and everything has worked just fine.I really like the feature of the machine holding the last 50phone numbers of callers -- my old answering machine only held one.My only quibble is that the LED display is just a bit small, and I have to hold it just so in order to read it.That problem may be solved by getting a new pair of glasses. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad for $ 35.00 USD
Hey, I did order this one and it was the last one left on Amazon for $34.99 with free shipping TO BOOT. It got here in less than 48 Hrs. As for the sound quality, not much different from the Panasonic "tape" machine that crapped out on me after 14 years. While recording your greeting, don't get too close to the mic, which is hidden under where it says mic on the bottom of this unit, over-modulation ( distortion ) generally, a bad sounding greeting will be the result. It works fine and the poor sound others have mentioned is false. Works just fine, if you need a$1000.00 machine, go buy one !!!! GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY SPENT !! Voice prompts built into this device are an easy setup and playback from remote calls. The only drawback is Only 15 Min. of rec. time. Thats good for me, maybe not you. On the road the "voice prompts" prompt you for anything you want to do from listening to messages, to totally wiping them all out. No real need to carry a remote command card in your wallet/purse, it asks you what you want to do.You can skip old calls and get to "only" the new ones as well. BEST BUY FOR THE BUCKS !! VERY EASY TO USE !!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied. But there is room for improvement...
I had this machine for about a month now.
Just two things that I don't like:

The sound could be improved. I can certanly understand the messages but my former 10 year old tape based answering machine sounded better.

It would be nice if they added a built in light in the Caller ID screen (like in cell phones)

Other than that not bad for what it costs. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor documentation and service
The Cons (which outweigh the pros):

* No manual included or published anywhere. It only comes with a quick start guide with no explanation on the configuration options. The Sipura 2000 manual may be a substitute, but it's a lousy excuse for the failure of Linksys to provide one.

* No firmware upgrades offered.

* Linksys technical support refuses to support users, giving the blanket response that support issues are to be directed to the VOIP provider (this includes support questions unrelated to the VOIP providers role).

* Vonage and Linksys have teamed up to deceive customers, hiding the fact that the PAP2 model is locked. They are being sued for this.Read about it here: http://forum.sipphone.com/viewtopic.php?t=598

The Pros:

* The box is small, and has two analog ports.

* It uses a switching power supply - as opposed to a transformer / brick.

I will probably be returning this Linksys junk, and buying the Sipura 2000 instead (which is rumored to be the same hardware).

2-0 out of 5 stars i tried vonage and switched to Packet8
i tried vonage for 5 months and than gave up.vonage dropped many calls suddenly and it was not easy to get a dial tone when i wanted to make a call.i switched to packet8 and recommend packet8.com

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty GOOD
My experience with Vonage has been pretty good!I'm in the Chicago area.Occasionally on a phone call the other party will drop out for 2 seconds then come back. But that small annoyance isn't a big deal considering I pay such a small price for unlimited anywhere in the U.S. and Canada plus all the features I get.Customer service wait time is quite ridiculous right now....but what do you expect of a company that's growing tremendously fast!I'm confident that the custmer service will get better.I have emailed customer service before. It took 3 days to get a response back which is too long, but i'm still happy.

1-0 out of 5 stars SHOULD BE VONAGE PHONE ADAPTOR
Very disapointed that it is not clearly stated by Amazon that this product is to be used only by Vonage (very expensive compared to other providers like Inphonex which is now my provider).I bought two routers RT31P2 and two PAP2 phone adapters all with Phone ports hoping I would be able to connect all my family (spread around the world).I got a Huge surprise when I noticed that they are locked only for use with Vonage. It says there is a Mail in Rebate worth 50 bucks, anyway it will only last less than two months.Other providers don't even charge monthly fees.

I had already sent all the units to various countries and after finding out that they are to be used EXCLUSIVELY with Vonage I just had to let them die where they were sent.It is not worth the shipping to bring them back.

As disappointing as this, was that I supposed this was going to happen so I contacted customer support from Amazon and asked them (before buying) if they were a "with Vonage telephony system" or if they were a "exclusively for Vonage telephony system".They didn't know so I just assumed they wouldn't be so distracted to not mention this.Specially for starters like us it may have been the most important thing to advertise:EXCLUSIVELY FOR VONAGE

I have always been a fan of Linksys products, my house is full of their products and never had trouble with the hardware. For sure I will continue to buy Linksys products, for sure I will never use vonage (eventhough I am sure it provides excellent clear voice communication; don't get cofussed, there are others that will give you more for a lot less go to yahoo and spend 30 seconds making a quick search and you will see), and for sure I had to tell other people what they are doing so nobody else will loose the money I lost, and what is most valuable, my time.

Make sure that when you buy a PAP2 it says:Model PAP2-NA

Conclussion:I just lost 260 bucks plus shipping and handling (internationally)

1-0 out of 5 stars Vonage - Very Poor Customer Services and Billing
We signed up for vonage servicve with number transfer from verizon. Within over 20 days phone number was not transferred. I faxed authorization form and verizon phone bill 3 times to Vonage. I believe, they purposely delay so trial period is over and then you have to pay cancellation fee if you want to cancel. I figured it out when I cancelled my service after 20 days, I was on hold for over 30 minutes though. I was charged $87.73 plus $1.29 plus $43.59 cancellation (even the equipment was shipped day after cancellation and I have proof USPS tracking they received it within 3 days) plus setup fee. Their office is in Edison NJ and I am in North Brunswick, NJ. I was on promotion for 1st month free but this trial for 20 days cost me about $140 even I did not use phone that much (1 or 2 local calls only for test purpose) so I cannot say anything about the quality of their phone service. I have been calling them and CS tranfer me to billing which automatically disconnects me after 8-10 minutes of waiting, it happend 4 times. No reply of any emails it has been over a month now.

Their equipment installation was easy and temp number was up as soon as I plugged it it after activation. So if you are not transferring a number, do not need their customer support and want to stay with then for a long time then it might be good for you.

After this horrible experience, I sgined up for AT&T Callvantage, though a little expensive but I am very happy. They tanferred my number within 10 days and excellant customer service.

I purchased this card for a Canon A95 digital camera, primarily because Canon sells this card at their website and because I read somewhere that SimpleTech makes the cards that come with (some?) Canon digital cameras.

You can read about the card's specifications elsewhere, just let me say that this is my second SimpleTech card (I also have a 256 MB SD card that I use in a HP 49G+ calculator), and both cards work as well as advertised.I will definitely buy from SimpleTech again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad cordless phone
We bought this phone with the hopes of having one corded phone (in case of power outages) and one cordless phone. The cordless phone works intermittently. It does not matter how close or far you are from the base, sometimes the volume just cuts out.It does not hang up on the person you are talking to, just the volume acts as if it drops down to "1" and you can't hear what they are saying. We now can only use the corded phone.

In the past I have been very happy with Uniden, I will be returningthis phone perhaps for a Motorolla. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 8825/8800 is great
My Siemens 8825 works great as did my Siemens 2420.Besides working very well mine have proven to be very rugged. The handsets are my 2-year old grandaughter's favorite toys. She has pushed every button on on all four of them, dunked one in a cup of juice, and threw one onto the tile floor. They all still work fine.I wouldn't buy any other brand.

I've had expensive Sony and Panasonic phone systems that didn't even come close to the Siemens.

I agree with the other satisfied Siemens owners here--if reading directions for electronic equipment isn't your forte a simpler system might be for you.One question--Why the heck has the 8800 handset price increased from $65 to $200?

I agree with most of the comments I have read on this web page about the 8825 system.I owned an earlier 2420 system and it was the best.I bought a used 8825 system with 4 handsets. The sound clarity is terrible.Range is not as good as earlier 2420 system.Terrible clicking sound on all handsets.Despite all of these issues, however, the most terrible problem is that when the base system (8825) is fried by a storm or surge, there is no way to use the cordless handsets (I have 4).There is no way to repair them and Siemens has no answers or tells one where to get service.Siemens told me when they get one back that is under warranty, they send out new ones.I told the technician that they have to know who fixes the refurbished phones but they claim they do not.So, I had to spend another $250.00 to get another used base system in order to use my 4 cordless phones. No technical repair support has caused me not to ever consider Siemens phones again.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY SEIMENS PRODUCTS THEY ARE UNRELIABLE, NO SUPPORT
Do yourself a favor and don't buy any Siemens product.Their phone systems are VERY UNRELIABLE (I have two and they both have failed). The customer support is COMPLETELY USELESS.I called when my 4015 started blinking and didn't work. They said, "It appears to have failed, buy a new base station".When I asked about repairs they said "We don't repair them, you have to buy a new base station".I said I wasn't going to give them any more of my money and their support sucked. They said "go ahead, your choice".BE WARNED.

If I could givem them 0 stars, I would.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, but very complicated to learn.
I've been using this phone for over year now and it work. However, I cannot say it was easy to use this products. Buttons are small for one and instruction on each mobile unit is not very clear.

If you are considering cordless two line phone, try to get the manual for this unit before buyign. Or check out panasonic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy these...if there's wireless anywhere near
I have a set of three Siemens 2.4 GHz phones (my mistake to buy all at once). They have had problems from Day One.I have had to return them to Siemens -- only to get the same problems back.None of their recommended fixes have worked. And worst of all, customer support has been atrocious.I recommend not buying these.I bought two other 2.4 Ghz phones from AT&T, and they have been flawless in the exact same environment. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good but not perfect
I left a full review of the system under the Uniden CLX485, but I wanted to rate the handset as a standalone item.It would be a 4.5 if that was possible. It is a very slick handset with lots of great features.Plus, you can update much of the info on the base model and have it transfer to the handset, which is very convenient. The battery life is also fantastic so far (although I've only had it 1 month). It is easy to get your messages off of each handset and it is easy to page each handset as you can individually label it (basement, kids room, etc). The biggest drawbacks are the ring tones (1990 cell phones come to mind) and the range. The sound quality is fine but the range is not as good as the 2.4 GHZ.We used to be able to be down our block a decent distance without a problem, now we can barely leave the house and the phone becomes only static. Not a huge drawback as we don't take the phone outside, but it is a concern to some people.Overall, we like the handsets quite bit. 4.5 out of 5. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Polycom SoundPoint Pro 3-Line
I have worked out of my home office for several years and have found the cordless phones quite inadequate. I frequently do 2HR + conference calls to the west coast, and have never felt comfortable using my speaker phone because it lacked professional sound quality. This is an excellent phone for your home office.

Although the speakerphone is not the same quality as their triangualar one, I am now very comfortable now doing long calls on it. I think the incoming speaker quality sounds excellent, I had one caller that had trouble hearing me, but I turned off the rear microphone and it improved.

The keyboard and handset are very comfortable. The menus are a bit too cumbersome to navigate and the phone lacks a voice mail light indicator. You have to pick up the handset and listen to the dial tone, instead of a quick glance, which is disappointing for a phone of this quality.

Features that can be improved include the LCD back light should be added and you should be able to program in more letters to your speed dial. It is restricted to 8 letters, it is also quite an antiquated method of programming them in, it is much too time consuming.

A positive feature for this phone is that it identifies the call length and it is very useful for managing your time in regards to your work day, and if you talk with attorneys you can easily track their billing. The 3 way conference feature works great and I am very pleased with how easily it is to set up conference calls on my own.

I think this is an excellent phone for a home office and would recommend it. I hope they can make a few adjustments for the next version, but in general I am very happy with this phone for my home office and has improved the overall quality of my workday.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
Recieved this phone last week.I bought the phone based on what a friend who is an expert on telecommunications told me.I needed a phone where the speakerphone sounded like I was talking on a handest. The audio is fantastic, but the pepole on the other end can still tell that I am on a speaker phone. So in that sense I am a little disappointed, but it is the best of the worst home office phone options.Other than that the setup is real easy, one other small drawback is when you put the names of people in your speed dial it only holds like 10 letters which is annoying. For a phone of this price I shoud be able to put a sentence in if I wish. Also if you are accessing voicemail you can only enter a few soft pause #'s before it runs out of room.If your reading this Polycom fix these things and you will have a much friendlier system.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable Seller
I ordered this phone on Jan 15, 2004.Today is Feb 9, 2004 and I have not received it to date.I've tried contacting the seller, but the emails are bounced back and it states the email address is not valid.Everyone, I urge you NOT to purchase from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great full featured speakerphone.
Full duplex speakerphone sound has to be experienced to be believed.Headset lets you dig through files with both hands or keyboard without hindrance.Caller ID and call-waiting caller ID gives you a full time paid for receptionist.Call logs and auto dial from call logs makes it easy to get back, even to people who don't leave voicemail messages (or forget to leave their phone numbers).Second microphone on back of unit for conference calling is also impressive.... mine worked fantastically right out of the box and has continued to do so for the past 18 months.Great company with great design - check their website for occasional product rebat offers.I got [some money] off on my phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Flawed product from a first rate company
I found the Soundstation product I use in the office to be so good that I decided to get this product for my home office.

I purchased the 2 line version of this phone. I had two problems immediately. The light on the mute button stopped working. Also, there was this annoying intermitant hum on the line (which all others on the call could hear as well). I called their customer service and they were very helpful. They apologized for the problem. They told me that the hum was a design flaw and that new models shouldn't experience the problem. I asked them to send me a new version of the phone so that I wouldn't have this problem going forward. They gave me a return materials number.

I received a replacement phone in the mail within a week and found that phone to have the same problem with a hum. I am very disappointed that they don't stand behind their product. If there is a design flaw then they should replace the product or refund the purchase price. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great sound, but mic sucks bigtime
The earpiece is absolutely fantastic, but don't let anybody fool you. A mic on the side of your mouth will never sound good to the other person on the phone. This one has a very difficult time picking up voices over driving noise (with the windows up!), especially if the A/C is blowing on your face. Multiple people told me it sounded WORSE than the crappy handsfree kit that comes with the phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, then hated it
I bought one of these and really liked it... for about six months until it stopped working; no audio; like the wire was cut.Stubborn guy that I am, I bought the same model again.I really liked how it fit my ear and sounded.Four months later (yesterday) headset number two died in the same way number one gave up the ghost.Am I willing to try for three strikes? No way!

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
I liked the comfort and convenience of this headset. However, the parties I am talking to cannot hear me when there is the slightest background noise. Terrible while traveling in a vehicle. I do not use it at all any more because I have to yell & repeat myself to the other party.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very nice design, but too loud!!
I bought the Jabra Earwave Boom as an upgrade from a cheap-ass generic earpiece. As i hoped, it's a much nicer product. It feels of decent quality, and it fits on/in my ear very well. It also looks quite cool, i think. Sound quality, in both directions, seems to be quite good.

However, my #1 complaint is that it is TOO LOUD!! Maybe it's just my phone, but with my Samsung i500 smartphone, even with the volume turned down to the minimum, i kept wincing as my ear would be blasted. Even the 'beep' after the 'Who do you want to call?" voice dial query would be painful.

However, i did find a solution. I took a tiny chunk of soft foam taken from some packing materials, and stuffed it into the audio canal through the eargel with a pin. It blocks enough sound that the Earwave Boom is comfortable to use.

If it had come with a reasonable volume level out of the box, i would have given it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Xbox Live as well
I bought this headset to use a replacement for the headset that comes with Xbox Live (the online service for Xbox game consoles). The standard Xbox Live headset is very clumsy and fragile.Fortunately, it can be replaced with any headset that uses a standard 1/8" jack. All you do is disconnect the standard headset from the adapter (the block thing with the volume control that plugs into your Xbox controller), and connect the Jabra in its place. It takes a little force to push it in all the way, but otherwise it fits perfectly.

The other reason I wanted to replace the Xbox headset is because with some Xbox games (like Mech Assault 2), if I want to wear headphones, I need to wear them over the headset. As you can imagine, that's uncomfortable. The Jabra headset fits over the ear and is flush against the head. While I'm wearing it, I can comfortably wear my headphones over it.

Not only does this headset work with my Xbox, but it works with my cordless phone and my cell phone. That makes this headset a great value.

The sound is very good, and everyone I talk to says my voice is clear.I think this is a great headset, and I'm very happy with my purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality/reasonable price
We bought this phone about 6 months ago and it's met all my expectations since then.Sound come through clearly and I enjoy the features it has - answering machine, caller ID, speakerphone, dual handsets. It was easy to set up and it's easy to program. From what we found, it was very reasonably priced considering all the features, and dual handsets makes it like 2 phones for the price of one!I'm very happy with my purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead after 3 months
I was actually quite happy with the phone regarding features and reception, until this week! Realizing that I have not heard the phone ring for a couple(?) of days, I glanced at the base unit to see if everything was alright. There I spied no lights at all glowing. I checked the outlet for power, and then the power transformer from the phone- both were working fine. Re-read the instruction manual for any reset tips, but the base unit was dead. I have 3 other Panasonic phones in the house, but this model is the first dud I have ever had from this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal on great phone.
We've had this set for a few months now, and it works great. Always clear, never drops, works all around the house and out to the street. Handset-to-handset conference function is definitely a plus. I'd recommend to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Far I Love It
This phone is everything my Uniden wasn't. Easy to set up, easy to use, good sound on the handset speakerphone. I can use it out in the yard. Plus it's a little longer, so that when I hold it to my ear, the mouthpiece is near my mouth, instead of the middle of my cheek. What a concept! Also, coolness: there is a red ring-shaped LED on the top of the antenna, which lights up when you have a message on the answering machine (or when you push the "find handset" button on the base unit.) Anyway, I think it's a very good unit, I hope it lasts. My old, tank-tough Uniden lasted many years, the new Uniden replacement only lasted a few months, died twice, and the second time, Uniden wanted 48 bucks to fix it, even though it was still under warranty. To heck with that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible reception
We bought this phone system knowing that Panasonic is a decent brand, but were completely disappointed. The phones have a terrible static noise and calls fade in/out. I looked in the manual for troubleshooting tips and it suggested moving the phones away from other electric devices, which I did, but it didn't help at all.

What good are all the other great features if the basic reception is not there?

5-0 out of 5 stars Does everything its supposed to
I bought this as a reconditioned phone via an amazon re-seller.

If you have two lines at home, this is the phone for you. (Assuming you can find one).

It's sound quality is fine and given its relative complexity, it is easy to use.If it has the features you are looking for, go for it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this phone
This phone will cut off your callers when they are leaving a voice-mail (see other reviews to see that this is common). It appears that it is dectecting tones in the callers voice which triggers the phone to think you are trying to access your voice mail.

Avoid this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad phone, poor customer service
The answering machine cuts off messages. After three months use static came on the line with each use.House telephone lines checked out; we were told phone was defective.Customer service of no use.Avoid this phone and avoid AT&T "service".

5-0 out of 5 stars AT&T 2462 Saves drowning poodle!!
Actually - No.But this phone system has been with us for over a year now, and the quality and features still impress us.Many of our clients don't recognize when they are speakerphone, and the feature-set - for a two-line phone - is impressive. The menu system for speed-dial can be a bit bothersome - but works fine, once you are used to it.One feature we would have liked to see, is a way to add 'hold music'...but this is a minor peeve.

2-0 out of 5 stars AT & T Model 2462
The voice quality is GREAT.The answering system, cuts off messages.AT&T support is terrible.Sent replacement...it failed also...sent upgrade model E2562,(with wrong remote units - which had be returned for the correct ones)...now line one is disconnected when put on hold to answer line two.It has been 10 months of dealing with a very poorly run customer service department. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Try to get one not two...
I don't have the two set but I do have this phone.I understand many people are not happy with this phone. But, I can say we have had our own which is exactlly the same only it is one phone not two for about two years. And we talk quite a bit so replacing the battery once is not too bad.I would recommend going to Walmart as they sell this same phone and you can get one phone. It works fine for us and even looks great still. We charge it over night and can get a full use of it all day.I also love the Caller ID fucntion as it still is crisp and sharp.I don't personally have a problem with my phone in hearing on it, yet, maybe they changed something on the dual one.My recommendation, try looking around to see if you buy this phone indivudually we got ours a walmart and a friend of mine also recently got the same phone at walmart so I know they still sell it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable phone
I've been using the previous model (DXI-386-2) for a couple of years, and one of the handset stopped connecting to the base. Giving the going price, I bought this set as a replacement. It is one advantage of having the low price phone: one won't go heartbreak if it stopped working.

This phone set has only basic functions according to today's standard. The multi-line LCD display does help on dialing even if one doesn't need CID. Nothing fancy here and nothing wrong. Note that the two handsets can't be used at the same time for conference, but transfer from one handset to the other is allowed.

The battery life is good. I never measured exact talk time, but it seems to be able to support full-day talking.

The sound quality is pretty good, but there are occasional clicking noise even not too far away. The range is not great inside the house. In theory, this 900MHz phone should work better in obstructed setting compare to higher frequency phones (2.4G and 5.8G). It doesn't fare that well though, for the both model versions I have. In short, it doesn't cover the whole house well for me (noise gets higher when away from the base). The new model also get complains from the other side of the line for soft voice, which was not a problem in the older version. Overall, however, it is acceptable quality and when I say it doesn't cover the whole house well, it does cover the whole (medium size) house, nevertheless. At this price range, I think this may even qualify as a great deal, depend on your expectation.

I have a 5.8G (digital) phone which beats this one on range and noise level, but more expensive. I don't have a 2.4G phone to compare with (I use wi-fi network, so trying to avoid 2.4G).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Phones with a potential problem
I recently purchased these on Amazon 'coz I needed a decent 900Mhz phone and this was the best priced one especially w/ dual handsets. The reviews on Amazon for this unit led me to try 'em out. Worked fine for the 1st week and then I lost dial tone on the voice portion of my phone line while the DSL was working fine. The SBC repair technician checked everything and said the he had seen this particular problem numerous times especially where Uniden cordless phones were involved. He said that sometimes the phones don't hang up the line as they're supposed to even after you press the "End" button. This causes a "short" on the line resulting in loss of dial-tone on the voice portion. After my line started working, the dial tone was lost again the following day (in less than 24 hours) and this time the DSL is also down. I'm waiting for the repair technician to come back to diagnose the problem. If it turns out that the Unidens are causing this, I'm going back to the Panasonics. I like the Uniden look, form factor and price and am hoping they're not the culprits. Will post a followup review once I diagnose this problem completely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phones for the price.
** You can NOT use both handsets at once **

I wasn't aware of this when purchasing the phones. Although it isn't enough of a reason for me to return them, I think it needs to be stated clearly. You can only use one handset at a time.

Otherwise I have been happy with the clarity of the calls as well as the battery life. The caller ID with call waiting is also quite a bonus. The phones are easy to use and the reception is great! Too bad you can't use both at once!

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound with headset
When used with a headset I can barely hear the other person.
Adjusting the volume only seems to increase the sound of the ambient room noise that the mic pics up.
    I'm NOT happy.
I've tried 2 different model headsets. Both behave the same.
The headsets have excellent sound quality and volume on a Toshiba phone I've been using for awhile.
I should have bought locally..... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't plug directly into wall
I thought this would plug directly into the wall. It doesn't; it has a power brick and cord. Only a US plug on it too. Can't speak for the battery length.

5-0 out of 5 stars UsageOutsideUSA
Nowhere on the website www.amazon.com it tells the buyer if this item requires a voltage converter to be used abroad.Does it only work with 110 volts in USA, or can handle 220/240 volts used abroad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has fan to keep the temperature down
manual says it charages 2500mAh AA batteries in 15 minutes.25 minutes for the other listed batteries - 2300mAh AA, 2100mAh AA, 900mAh AAA, 800mAh AAA.Like the Duracell 30 min & Energizer 15 min chargers, the built in fan does help to keep the temperature down.More expensive than others, but rated for 2500mAh - probably be seeing more of these higher capacities in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice quality
This charger seems well built and is nicely designed.I would reccomend this charger to anyone looking for a quality NiMh charger.
The included 2500mAh batteries hold a lot of juice, and seem to be built well.

This charger is expensive, but you get what you pay for. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this MP3 player
I never write reviews, but I felt that it was necessary for a potential consumer considering forking out almost $400 bucks to be aware that this is not the product to do it on.

    Here's why:

Terrible software: Read the review prior to mine. When you first get a hefty mp3 player like this you cannot help being a little happy. At first you live with the small problems but eventually they are just too annoying.

Playlists: If you want to make a playlist be prepared to copy the same song twice to the player. Now since you have so much space mB aren't really the problem. The problem is when you go to play an album or songs from a particular artist. Both songs are entries and thus you get duplicate tracks.

Firmware: The standard model shipped cannot play mp3 formats. Eventually you get an e-mail from Sony telling you you can send your mp3 in for a software upgrade allowing it to play this format for only $20 plus postage and handling. WHAT! Are they out of their minds? Why can't I just download it.

SonicStage: Oh this is the second most irritating aspect of the player. Now this might be a particular bug related to the usage of the integrated browser which I am guessing uses the Firefox rendering engine. It results in Sonic Stage not working. Some of the links are disabled and I cannot purchase tracks or redeem my coupon code. You get 30 free songs from Sony with a mail-in coupon... it takes about 6-8 weeks before it arrives. It could have taken about 100 years cause I still can't get my free tracks. I am not computer illiterate either.... running a dual boot system XP/Fedora Core... using XP only for the musts like Photoshop CS and SonicStage.

Display: If you plan on using your player on a sunny day be prepared to spend fifteeen to thirty seconds to find out what the heck is on the screen. If you are like me and carry yours in a plastic zip lock baggy forget about it cause your chances are slim to none and slim just got on the bus.

Worst of all: When I first purchased it in December it crashed about a week later. I took it in and got it exchanged. Four months later it wouldn't charge. I recently brought it in for repairs (I bought mine at Sears and the Sony Service Center works via them). There is a one-year parts warranty but only three months on service. I was all bummed that I had to pay for this but hey what can you do. I told the clerk what had happened and he said you know what I'll just swap it with a new one. He couldn't cause Sears discontinued carrying it... I wonder why.

Well lucky for me he swapped it for a player of the same caliber. It was the iPod+hp... and I am telling you this mp3 player blew the Sony right out of the water. Wow... it had a color display, incredibly easy user interface, real playlists, slideshow, easy hookup to tv and tuner, and more.

I wasn't going to buy the iPod either but it was all they carried in order to satisfy me as a customer. Boy did I let my prejudices push me into making the wrong decision... DO not buy Sony NW-HD1 player cause you'll really end up pulling your hair out.

I guess I am writing this cause I'd imagine there are people out there who like myself who just don't have $400 bucks to throw around for fun. It's hard earned money... and when something doesn't function properly you feel cheated and aren't sure what to do about it cause forking out another $4000 is not really an option you'd want to pursue.

I hope this helps you make find the player that works for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good lookin', but fails to shine in more ways that one...
Upon reading the blurb on the box you think you're getting a really good deal, right? How horribly wrong I was! For starters, the actual quality of the sound that the player gives out is atrocious mainly due to the lack of volume. Full blast volume gives you the same amount of sound coming out of a talking birthday card. This is an incredible let down, especially when you're using speakers with the player.Whilst searching for a this player on E-bay, you're more than likely to come across little scams for about £4 or £5 for them to send you instructions on how to open the hidden volume control on your player.

The installation disc supplied contains the actual instruction manual (which I did not discover until a month of installing the player) and a program called Sonic Stage which is the method of transferring files to your player. When you open this program, you think it's all incredibly straight forward: select music to be transferred, press transfer and you're done! This is the case if you're happy listening to the headache fuelling 48kbps which is the default quality for transferring data. You may also think that this can be overcome with the simple click of a mouse by changing the quality to a more regular 130kbps, but it still transfers as 48kbps! I had a headache before even listening to anything!

The actual process you have to partake in to change the sound quality is incredibly long winded and tedious as you have to select individual files, convert them into the sound quality you'd like (roughly 30 seconds per song seems reasonable enough, but then you have to do that for every song you want transferred) and then you're able to transfer them onto your player. Despite the USB cradle developed for high-speed transfers, it doesn't seem any faster. The Sonic Stage program also freezes when you transfer more than 5 albums at a time and crashes your computer on a regular basis. The player is also used as an external storage unit which means you can just copy and paste files into the unit that's shown within 'My Computer' and they can be removed from there.

The players aesthetics may be one of the very few ups of this player. The players petit physique allows you to fit it snugly into your pocket and not notice that it's actually there, although it's surface area is too big to wear around your neck. The design of the players jukebox is very confusing and frustrating too as every song is arranged by 'composer' not by artist. Whilst I'm complaining about the design of this, I found myself stopping to admire the lovely backlight display which is a very minty green colour. The player [as most do] has the hold function, although if you pause the player for 30 seconds, it turns itself off therefore wasting battery life turning it back on again. Now, other than the incredibly unreasonable volume and the hassle to transfer music onto your player.

One of the reasons the world has turned to MP3 players, is for easy sharing or file transferring between work/friends/school, but once again, this player fails to deliver by only allowing the files placed within the external storage folder to be shared and even when you do wish to share them, you have to carry your USB cradle and USB lead (connects the cradle to the computer) which defeats the entire object of easy file sharing and also makes it incredibly obvious that you have a very expensive piece of hardware on you and are begging to be mugged.

When you're paying such an amount for a rather poor piece of equipment, you'd expect Sony to provide you with insurance against theft or external damage and you're just lumbered with the usual Sony warranty which covers a faulty product or damage within the products operating/storage system and leaves you having to pay £20 more to get the player insured against theft through an unreliable company as Sony Centres don't allow you to insure a product unless it was purchased at that particular time within that store.

Overall this product is a poor investment and a complete and utter con! I'm nothing but disappointed with it. Although I may be the coolest cat in town with it, I'll always feel cheated and unhappy with the player.

Ups - The best aesthetics within an MP3 player yet.
Downs - Pretty much everything else is a let down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome compact mp3 player
I have had this mp3 player for about a year. It is very very small, about the size of my palm. The best part is the battery life. It exceeds the 30 hour limit listed in the specs. I did not like it at first when I had to convert my mp3 to ATRAC format. Then I sent it to the Texas service center for a firmware upgrade and now I can upload mp3 directly. They also sent me a new Software which is much better than the one that came with the player. I am really satisfied with the product at this time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get it now for about $200...
...or get it later for $400.The forthcoming model, NW-HD4 is already being declared the iPod killer.Same features as this except NW-HD4 (and the colorful NW-HD3) can play mp3.This one can be modified to play mp3 (you'll need to send it to TX to get firmware installed). But I'm more than happy with SonicStage software.I've got about 400 CDs on mine and it's half-full.The sound quality is excellent, long battery life, lightning-fast downloads, sturdy construction and easy to use.Anyone who thinks it's difficult to operate or use the software probably struggles with any technology. It's about the size of a deck of cards.Match it up with JBL On Tour speakers and you've got the ultimate system for the travelling music enthusiast. It was originally $350.Get it before it's gone!

1-0 out of 5 stars Hardware small and long battery life but software sucks
I just bought NW-HD1 for my dad and he is a 67 year old chinese man who loves to hear his chinese music.Even though he loves the machine for it's size but he can't read what is being played because the stupid machine will not support Chinese characters.Prior to the purchase of the NW-HD1, I have other mp3 players (IPOD and Rio) that display chinese characters and I never suspected that the NW-HD1 would not have the same function being Sony a big Asian electronic company with long history. What a dispointment from Sony!!From now on, I can not assume that anything from Sony is always good, they're no longer what Sony used to be. ...
