4-0 out of 5 stars Good machine for its cheap price, could be better
Not a sexy machine but it does the job nicely.

I don't need anything fancy schmancy. After trying out a panasonic combo cordless phone and answering machine, which I found out has a critical design flaw, I decided to keep my old telephone and just get an answering machine.

This answering machine was easy to set up. The messages are retained if the power goes out, but the greeting and time are erased. Not a big deal and I have it in my UPS anyway so that won't matter. The blinking message indicator is obvious from far away. That's good when you get home and glance over; you don't have to work to know if someone's called you.

One annoyance is the date & time storage. The machine stores the day, time and year. NOT the month. The date saved will be something like "Saturday 5:32 PM, 2005". (me scratching head...uh duh did I set that up right?)

Why would I care to know the year BEFORE the month? Obviously the order of precedence should be time, day, month, year. They should have just left out the year.

Anyway, that's not a big deal. Just strange.

My only complaint is that the remote access code is only 3 digits, which is barely enough to guard against someone trying to steal your messages. However, some units have a pathetic 2 digit access code (like the panasonic cordless combo unit), so this is 5X better than them (they disallow a range of codes). Remote access codes should be at LEAST 4 digits long to prevent abuse. 3 is cutting it too close. It's barely adequate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works very well
I have had this machine for well over a year now.It works great.I have bought two more for other members of my family. Can't beat the price either.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total Junk
Can not even understand my own outgoing message - sounds like talking through a blanket.Tried rerecording 25 times to no avail.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone,Voice Somewhat Hard To Understand-1830-1980's
I am reviewing a 1980's At&t 1830 Answering Machine/1-Line Telephone.
The Machine is excellent.
The reason for no Five Stars?
The English Man's Voice is a little bit hard to understand.
For example, when he says "Five" it sounds like he's saying "Fa".
The Ringers *could* be inproved a little bit, but it's O.K.
At&t should have NOT discontinued the 1830!

1-0 out of 5 stars It's Awful
First..it doesn't have a battery backup
Second, if you pick up while it's answering, it doesn't disconnect and you can't turn it off until the greeting is complete. That's enough for me. It's 3 weeks old and headed for the trash after I get a new one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT PHONE!!
This phone is GREAT!! I wear glasses and have low vision, but do not need one of those giant BIG button phones, well this phone is superb, the buttons are big, but not too huge. heck, they look normal size to me, not so teeny-tiny like all the phone makers are making them nowadays lol. and that is what i was looking for. the 2nd plus, is that you can actually cleaarly read the caller i.d. area, it too, is larger. thirdly, as an extra bonus, the audio on the phone is adjustable. i'm not hard of hearing yet, i'm only 49, but do have one ear that is better than the other. well now i can adjust the volume to fit both ears comfortably.all in all, this is a superb phone and i heartily recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It
This phone is perfect for some one who is hard of hearing. The base can ring very loud and lights up as it rings. The reciever also lights up and can ring loud. When you page it the phone blinks. I love this phone. You can even here it ring outside when needed. I plan on purchasing a extra one for my husbands business.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone.Highly recommended!
I recently purchased this phone for my 84 year-old grandmother who is a little hard of hearing and needed a cordless phone with amplified sound. We couldn't be more delighted with this model. It is well designed, easy to use, and the earpiece volume amplification feature works very nicely. The blinking LEDs make it easy to see when the phone rings, and the caller ID has large easy-to-read characters.A great investment for $50. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Infoglobe is really cool
I've had one of these little toys since Christmas and it works beautifully, no trouble at all. Now I did have probelms with the first one, it wouldn't really ever work, but I think it was damaged because the Radio Shack it was purchased at only had 2, and my mom bought the other one and hers didn't work either. I ordered this one and it has been awesome. I love the messages I can set myself, it has never failed to display an incoming number, you can see the info from across the room, and the whole thing is just really cool in appearance.
Sure the engine is audible- if you're about 3 inches from it! Mine sits on my computer desk next to my phone, and I never evcen notice any sounds. Friends who come over and see it are fascinated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Info Glode....Not bad!
I consider myself lucky after what I have been reading.I do have the version that takes the 3 aaa batteries and for a week have not had a problem.A little noise but when you normally set things up, it is quiet and you have to understand how it works. It is bound to make a little noise....hey, it is a toy!Have fun and enjoy.

The only thing I agree with is the setup is somewhat confusing.Read the instructions a few times and you will figure out how to do it but there are still a lot of "clicks" to enter your 6 messages.

I do want one at work too.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's cool enough for the money.Get it.
Very cool.Has value as a nifty clock/calendar even if you don't hook it to your phone line (though I have).I've often considered getting another one for work just for the "ooh, ahh" effect--and I wouldn't use it as caller ID there.I also enjoy that its operation is so intuitive (I never have to get the instructions out).

And yes, the motor is audible, but with just a bit of trial and error you can find a placement in which the noise is minimal.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not work properly
I saw this in the store and was excited by its geek appeal, so I had my girlfriend get this for me for my birthday. It has so much potential, but unfortunately it is wasted by the simple fact that it does not do its job well.I checked the other reviews on Amazon which mention many of the same problems, so I know it's not just my unit. These things just were not programmed well, which makes it basically worthless since it doesn't do its job.

    * Misses many incoming calls.
    * Gets confused and displays random question marks instead of useful info.
    * Randomly loses its settings (messages, auto-off time).
    * Hard to program.
    * Constantly displays annoying "Olympia InfoGlobe" message instead of something more interesting.
    * Numbers never expire from the unit unless you manually display each one.
    * Poor interface requires excessive button pushing to display each number.
    * Makes a good bit of noise unless you sit it on a pillow.
    * When it does show a call, it often takes too long for the number to scroll into view.

In short, find another way to get caller ID.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool - but needs more refinement
I liked this concept so much, however the actually function was not as good as I expected. The machine uses a spinning electrode to display information. This make a fairly audible humming sound that bothered me.

My biggest complaint is that the globe displays information all the time.I was hoping the unit would have a "sleep mode", and would only display a incoming call, but it doesn't.Thus if the unit is turned on, the unit displays date and time, or other messages 24-hrs a day. This was distracting, we sent the unit back for a refund. ... When this unit is working, it's great, I have had a lot of problems with it cutting out. I call the customer help line, and they are very nice, but the fixes they have been suggesting are temporary at best. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wish it wasn't plastic, but...
This is a superb all-in-one system. The retro feel comes through less effectively than some of the other retro combo players out there because of this one's plastic and fairly modern-looking interface (with the notable exception of the authentic tuner dial) but for the money, this one is the right choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just right for us- modern but basic
High tech digital sound and lights are wasted on me.This unit combines all of the music features I need into one compact attractive package that sounds as good as any boombox I've owned.I like the dial tuner better than a digital tuner. If you're into the absolute best sound and hi tech features, this is not for you.If you want something to play music in the living room, to play your nostalgic moldy oldy records, and share with the whole family then this might be just right. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality. Limited range
    Hello,
I am a scientist in the field ofMicrowave/RF circuits and systems. I considered several but finally chose the Jabra A210 along with the BT250 Jabra headset.

    A few things to note:
    1) swithcing on and off is not very intuitive, you have to hold down the power button for "n" number of seconds, the lights will flash in a certain pre-ordained sequence, but if you do hold down the power button more than what is required (this is sketchy), then the appliances enter set up mode, and the pairing between the adapter and the headset might be lost. BUT this set (headset and the adapter) have 8 hours talk time and 240 hours standby time (as per manufacturer's claim), even if it performs up to 80% of the reported claim, you wont have to mess around too much with the power switch. You can comfortably use it during the day and come home at night and recharge the set.

    2) Quality of sent and received signals. Please note: The jabra A210 has a pin which can be put in to 3 settings. Setting # 1 is for motorola phones, Setting # 3 for all other phones and Setting # 2 is for when you feel discomfort in setting # 1 or # 3. I have a LG VX 6100 NON-BLUETOOTH phone from verizon. I tested the settings extensively by calling a friend. (Thanks Guddu.) I tried setting # 1, there were 2 noticeable problems: (a) My friend complained that the volume of my voice was low, but the clarity was good.
    (b) I could not use the button on the head set to connect and disconnect calls.
But I must mention, I could receive my friend's voice in absolutely loud and clear tones.

Both the problems were alleviated when I used setting # 3 on the adapter. In fact, when I started using setting # 3, my friend complained that my voice was too loud! There werent any issues related to clarity.

    3) Range: The manufacturer claims this to have a range of 10 meters (30 feet). But at the same time, in its manual, it is written that if there are objects in the wireless signal path between the adapter and the headset, the sound quality will suffer.

Now we have to consider 2 trade offs for every RF design. (a) power (b) size. We all want the smallest devices with maximum power and range. Well physics and electronics sharply put us back in our places. If you want greater range, you need to put out signal with great field strength. That needs higher battery consumption, high efficiency non linear amplifiers and large antennas. Microstrip patch antennas (generally used for their low profiles and small size) resonate to a particular frequency if their length is correctly defined. But with design modifications, this length can be shortened, but the gain suffers. Also, thanks to the FCC, we have very strict limitations on the frequency bands available (the higher the frequency, the shorter the wave length, and thus smaller the antenna and consequently higher the gain). FCC makes many RF devices work at lower frequencies than we RF engineers would like them to operate at. Also, due to fear of signal from one device interferring with other devices, FCC puts limits on the amount of power a device can put out.

Given these considerations, the A210 and BT250 which are required to have excellent power efficiency (8 hours talk time and 240 hours stand by time) and also small and compact size (very small batteries and small antennas) provide a range which is not quite satisfactory. I walked at a radius of 10 feet and even with walls, metal partitions, etc, the signal strength was not that affected. How ever more than 10 feet, the signal had so much noise in it, I had to move closer to the adapter.

To be honest with you, I am not happy with the range. I dont think the range is $130 worth (for the adapter and headset = $50 + $80). Period. For a 10 feet range the cost should have been more like $50 (for both).

So basically, we have reviewed some basic factors. However, there is one major design flaw that I would like to bring to your attention. That is: The head set and the adapter enter in to stand by mode after one minute of non-usage. So even when you are in the middle of a call and both parties keep silent for more than a minute, the head set and the adapter stop communicating. The call is NOT disconnected. You can either pull the adapter jack out of the cell phone and put it back in, or press the volume key on the cell phone (basically do some thing with the cell phone) and you will be able to resume the conversation on the bluetooth devices. How ever this is not voice operable. Meaning, if the adapter and the headset enter in to stand by mode during the conversation when both parties to the call are silent, even when they both start talking, the adapter and the head set do not start communicating.

This is extremely uncomfortable. If I have a blue tooth head set and adapter kit for which I have paid $130 or more, then I want absolute mobility with out any reason to come back to the adpater unless I do so from my own free will.

Lastly, here is a recommendation for the people who designed this set. You need to incorporate greater features in to this adapter and head set. It should be able to not only handle voice data but also music and other types of audio information. This means you might need to use a more efficient method of modulation. Maybe you are using FSK which is constant envelope modulation (I deal with military and radar communication, so I dont know what modulation is used for blue tooth), but you cannot include too much information in to the FSK signal. Try using QAM, maybe not a very high order QAM, but some thing capable of handling all audio information. All you will need to change in the design is: a new power amplifier which is high efficiency and linear. Probably a class E or Class F with feed forward or Envelope elimination and restoration (Kahn) or Doherty principles. It is simple. You will need a one time engineering development cost, but in the long term - with market domination and mass production, it will more than make up for it.

As for buyers. If you are rich, a techno geek or a business person constantly on the phone - Go for this. It is good.
But if you have limited resources (money) then buy a simple wired hands free kit. In fact at times when the battery is down or I have to move to get back within range, I long for the reliability of a wired handsfree kit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vialta BM-TV Single Beamer Phone Video Station Review
This is a fantastic product that allows my husband and I to stay connected with the children and grandchildren who are located throughout the United States! It took a little bit of effort to get set-up the first time, but the Vialta Customer Service was very helpful. It has been very easy to use subsequently. The video quality can be a bit jumpy when the little ones are moving around excessively (e.g., demonstrating their karate moves), but is made up by the ability to see our family live. The grandchildren (located 2500 miles away) were able to celebrate their grandfather's birthday party and watch him open up thier present. We love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product great price
I loved this product!Although this is my first video phone purchase, for the price you can't beat it!The image is much like that of what you may find on a computer. It's very easy to set up and use. Great way to keep in touch with older family members. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone, but...
Could the color be any uglier?Panasonic, you must stop with this cheesy silver being the only option! It does not look cool or "high tech."It looks spray-painted on and doesn't go with ANY decor.I really like this phone and would purchase in a second if only you offered it in black as well.People, are you with me here? What are they thinking?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone with Great Features
Overall I like this phone.Yes, the talking Caller ID is sometimes difficult to understand but what do you expect for an electronically generated voice. After hearing the pronounciation of my frequent callers a few times, I understand it just fine (and those calls are the only ones I really care to listen out for).I can even stick my head out of the shower and listen and understand the voice announcement. It is the clearest cell phone I have ever owned. No static, no muffled voices, no interference. This is the first time when I talk on the phone and hear interference and I know it is not my phone causing it.I am buying another one for my elderly father for Christmas because he has trouble hearing and will have no problem hearing with this phone. He has a Uniden now and the sound volume is very faint even on the highest volume setting.

I like the speakerphone feature on the handset.I will NEVER buy another phone without it.It comes in handy when I am on hold forever and can put the phone down while I wait and not have to hold it next to my ear.The speaker is also convenient when I have to follow telephone prompts and punch in a bunch of numbers without having to keep putting the phone up to my ear to hear the next prompt.

This phone has the nice message indicator light on the base and the handset.I love that because I can see immediately if I have a message waiting for me.

Oh, I could go on and on about this phone but I tell you it is the best phone I have ever owned.I am struggling to think of anything negative to say about it but I cannot.Yes, it is pricey. The high price caused me to hesitate for about a month before I finally bought one.I put it on my wish list and kept looking around for something cheaper with equivalent features but in the end I had to come back to this phone. But take it from me, it is well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Combo
I purchased this phone to replace a 3-year-old Panasonic Gigahertz DSS Elite phone. The Elite was a great combination of style and useful features.I was looking for a phone without allot of visual gimmicks but had the high-end features I had gotten used to.Enter the TG2336S.

After having this phone a few days I don't really miss the 2 LCD screen Elite it replaced.

    PROS:
    1. Great Feel - Comfortable to hold and press against the ear.
    2. Style - No visual gimmicks.Unlike some of Panasonic's other models this phone is visually lean, yet attractive.
    3. Easy To Use Interface.
    4. Nice Big Voice Mail (VM) button and indicator!!This was something I had to have. The Elite had an illuminated translucent VM indicator; this model has the next best thing.
    5. Sound Quality - It's on par with a 2.4GHZ phone.
    6. Convertible Base - The base can be wall mounted OR placed on a flat surface. This may sound not sound like a big deal; however, shop around. The wall mount option is hard to find in a high-end phone.

    CONS
    1. It's 2.4GHZ instead of the newer, 5.8GHZ
    2. Pricey - Seems a little high. You can pick up similar Panasonic units with answerers for only a few dollars more.

    SUMMARY
A great phone with hard to find features, including wall mount, VM compatibilty.A final phone to purchase before making the switch to more expensive 5.8GHZ units.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone /Not so great features
I have had this phone for about a month now.
    Pros:
    No stactic
Can go to the parking lot w/ no interruptions
Can down load ringtones like cell phone for your ringer.
    Easy to use menu
    Clear caller ID screen
Speaker phone is clear, callers can't tell that U are
    on it.

    Cons:
The talking caller Id is horrible. It doesn't pronounce
    the names correct.
The names are not announce until after the second ring.
The voice enchancer has an echo

Overall I like the phone. A couple of years ago I had a phone from ameritech that let U record your voice for the voice announcer. That is what panasonic should do with this phone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No built-in answering machine/voice mail
I purchased the Panasonic Phone # KX-TS282B based on the only 2 reviews I could find, which took several hours to find. Trying to find a site where you can find or leave a review for a Panasonic phone is a joke. As one of only 2 other reviewers stated, "It is a PITA!"

Yes, it is a nice looking phone and yes it has lots of features, however, I was disappointed that it did not have an internal answering machine. My inexpensive GE cordless phone for my residence has that and it has always worked great.I can't imagine a business phone that doesn't come with answering phone or voice mail feature.

I have just purchased a franchise, which I will be doing as a home-based business for the first year.I am it.I need a phone that allows me to connect with my customers when I am away from my office and visa versa. If a customer calls me and wants to leave me an order or wants to inquire about prices or products and I am out on a delivery, that customer cannot leave that information and time is wasted playing phone tag trying to reconnect with that person. I certainly can't afford to lose customers before I even get them.

I will take part of the blame, because I shouldn't have assumed that it had that feature.

Also, a little flyer was in the packaging that stated, IMPORTANT! Before you return product to the retailer! Call us FIRST at 1-800-211-7262.Supposedly their hours on Saturday-Sunday are from 9am-7pm EST.Well, I live in the EST time zone and I started calling at 4pm on Saturday and 2 hrs. later I gave up. All I got was a busy signal.Do they only have one phone line?

    5-0 out of 5 stars sweet - finally a decent 2-line phone
What a PITA trying to find reviews for 2-line landline phones.
Using it for a home office phone.

NICE: Crystal clear. Speakerphone is very good. CallerID is great and allows easy addition to built-in directory. Can use different ringtones for each line. Can add other phone of same type as extensions with intercom capability. Has jack for headset (haven't tried it yet). Has Mute button for those boring teleconference calls.

Had a GE 2-line phone that worked for about a year and developed aloud annoying hum. Piece of junk >:(

    Buy this one - it's a no-brainer. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Business Phone
I had a chance to use the Panasonic KX-TS3292B in my home office thanks to a friend who lent me one. Now I need to buy my own. This is a great phone for any small or home business although I'm not sure why it's listed here for $129.99 list when Panasonic's own site shows the MSRP as $99.95. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, Many Features
If you need a phone that does not require an AC wall plug, this is probably what you need. The description does not give the features, so here goes:

It has Caller ID and if you have the service, Call Waiting ID.

It has a 14 number quick dial, and a 25 number stored directory dial.

You can store numbers from the Caller ID right into quick dial or the directory.

You can redial numbers directly from the caller ID screen with the push of one button.

It has a speakerphone, with mute, and volume control for the speaker phone.

    It has a hold button.

All of the buttons are large enough that you don't feel like you're pecking at microdots.

It is easily wall or desk mounted.

The LCD screen is very visible, and can be adjusted for contrast.

You have a choice of English, Spanish or French for the language.

You can program in area codes if you have to always dial 10 numbers to make a call (I think this is called layering or somesuch by the phone companies).

All in all, a lot of quality for a very reasonable price.

Audio quality seems good, and I am a little hard of hearing in one ear, but there is no problem with this phone in that regard.

It does require 4 AA batteries which are not included, but to be honest the batteries that get included with items are garbage anyway so you'd want to use quality batteries.

If you need a corded phone, which you should have in the event of a power failure (your cordless phones will not work without AC power but phones plugged into a regular phone wall jack will work if the wires are not down), then this is going to be the phone for you.

Go ahead, spend the money, you'll get a good quality phone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't look for support from this company.
VTech seems to be doing a good job on a technical level. But their support is abysmal. I was encouraged by the flyer in their instruction packet that states, "NEED HELP? Our representatives are here to help you with any questions concerning the operation of this product, available accessories, or any other related issues. Call Toll Free: 1-800-595-9511"

I wanted to ask about a feature that was not addressed in the manual. After 20 minutes (and multiple attempts after getting into a voice jail cul-de-sac) wading through voice jail systems without being to talk to a person, I gave up and am returning the base and phones I purchased (about $250 worth of equipment).

It is amazing to me how otherwise smart companies seem to enjoy making it a major challenge for their customers to reach them on a personal basis with questions and feedback.

I don't care how it looks on some VPs' quarterly report. The dollars saved by these methods is one of the stupidest things a company can do. They'll spend big bucks on focus groups, testing, etc., but ignore one of the most potent (and accurate) sources of good feedback they could have -- their customers!

These are people who believed in them enough to spend hard-earned dollars to buy equipment. What better source for feedback on how to make that equipment better?

    Oh well. Caveat emptor.

Please keep this in mind when making a phone system purchase. The last thing you want to be doing when trying to get support is wandering around an endless maze of voice mail options whose primary job seems to be to shield a company from their customers.

If you want to try this yourself before buying, try the 800 number above. I couldn't even reach someone in the "sales information" option! (At least they are not hypocritical -- they really don't want to talk to customers in any way, shape, or form.)

I would also recommend Amazon consider whether they really want to sell products with such terrible support. This reflects poorly on a fine company like Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine for what I need.
If you have a high volume of faxing, then this is not the machine you want.I only get one or two faxes a week and this works great for me.It distinguishes between phone & fax calls perfectly. The only con is that the battery life in the phone is weak.I thought I had a bad battery so I bought another one (only about $12)and after installing it, realized the problem still existed. The handset obviously uses a lot of juice.

2-0 out of 5 stars There's better equipment out there
Another reviewer noted that the fax uses up its ink-roll quickly --- I agree.I get a couple of junk faxes per week and that makes the machine unneccessarily expensive to own.The batteries in both handsets died after 1 year and it cost me $36 to replace them. One of the handsets seems to have gone quietly insane over the past year.It arbitrarily loses contact with the base (even when sitting next to it) and it now happens so frequently that I have to replace it.Perhaps if I had been paying more attention to it I would have noticed the onset of the handset's dementia and taken it to a doctor in time. Oh well :-(

4-0 out of 5 stars Initial Comments and Review
The Panasonic KX-FPG381 Fax & cordless phone combo appears to have been a good decision.

    PROS:
    1. It accurately distinguishes between fax calls and voice calls.
    2. It allows the phone to ring up to from 2 to 7 times (selectable) before triggering the answering machine.
    3. I added an additional telephone and was able to add it without any trouble.
    4. Good, clear telephone reception
    5. Lots of convenience features that you'll quickly depend upon
    6. Selectable tones reduces the irritation of hearing the phone ring
    7. Faxing out is simple (just enter the phone number and hit send). An automated message tells you whether it was sent OK or not.
    8. Receiving faxes is automatic (do nothing, just read your fax).

    CONS:
    1. The manual is the only drawback I can see right now. Its obviously written in a foreign language and then translated into
English. If this isn't the case, then Panasonic should have hired professional technical writers to produce the manual (not the engineers - they can't write directions to make pop-corn).

    OVERALL
I consider it a good buy and a good price when you consider you're getting a quality cordless phone system and a fax machine at one price.

Well, that's my opinion so far. If it changes, I'll update this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fax machine, great phone - great combo
I read the reviews above - who the heck talks 4 hours on their phone???If you're looking for a cordless phone/fax - then this is a good one

2-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic needs to dump this style
Panasonic needs to dump this style of fax machine - the ones that use that cheesy film - like carbon paper only really really expensive.

I had the older model this unit and I can't really fault much about it except the cost of the film and the way it uses the film. It basically feeds inch by inch film to paper. What his means is when a fax message is blank or has one line it still uses an entire page of film.

When your film is finished you may used 20% of the potential of the roll. You can't rewind so you have are stuck with shelling out another $25 for a roll.

I just took mine out of service in favor of a SHARP unit that uses an inkjet cartridge. It's too soon to tell how long it will last but the starter cartridge has already done more than 300 sheets and still going strong. The entire unit cost me the same price as two rolls of Panasonic film.

2-0 out of 5 stars Really not that great
I am shocked to see that so many rave about this control. The only good quality about it is that it nicely takes the place of lots of remotes (which I kept losing). But the problems overwhelm its benefits.

First, it is bulky. It SUCKS for channel surfing. Not only is it inherantly two handed, it has a poor ergodynamic design even if you try to use one handed.

The buttons are tough to hit-it always seems like I would hit buttons 2-3 times and never get the right thing.

The batteries die in two weeks. You are a moron if you buy this thing WITHOUT buying yourself some fast recharging batteries.

Finally, they really need to offer a class on how to work this thing.I have a science grad degree-so I am somewhere between educated and uneducated, and I got very impatient trying to learn this thing. It took hours to just get the basics down. There is little online support and the instructions couldn't be anymore technical.

If you are the kind of person that loves to micromanage your equipment (lots of options), and you don't mind spending a few weeks reading the instructions and learning the thing, you will probably enjoy it.So if you are the kind that does computer programming or builds computers and audio/visual systems, you may enjoy that.

If you are like most of us, however, who have full time jobs and just want a control that you can get up and running in an hour, this is NOT the one you want.I bought the Logitech Harmony 676 and, though it is not without its limitations, is head and shoulders about this control and extremely easy to set up (plug it into the computer, tell it what you want to do without complicated programming, and its ready). It is also very ncie to have a one handed control.

I love Sony stuff, but this control is a waste of moeny for most people. If you are spending over a hundred bucks, it should make life easier, not more annoying and complicated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Im an amateur videophile
I only have four components for this remote, and programming it was quite easy, tedious but easy. it works great and looks great, but it is fairly bulky.

On the positive side, i programmed it so that i dont have to keep switching between remote functions to control different components. Also, it makes it easier for friends to operate the remote. Secondly, there is a button for every function i frequently use. Lastly it does clear up a lot of remote control clutter.

The biggest obvious gripe is that you can't feel the buttons. this makes it hard for lazy people like me to finger prance the remote. Secondly, its size makes it hard to hold the remote while you are lying down.

I have not noticed the other gripes mentioned by other reviewers. It might be because i do not use that many components, or that i have had it for a short period of time.

Overall, I recommend this controller because it is funtional, cool in appearance, and it is worth the price if you buy it online.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Remote to Replace all Controls
Not long ago, I decided to start a project to build a computer-based media server to replace my aging hi-fi stereo equipment I had purchaced some 12 years earlier.Of my many lofty goals, one of the more reasonable was to replace my ever growing collection of remote controls with a single device.Over the years my entertainment center had grown to include remotes for the television, stereo, CD-changer, DVD player, DirecTV receiver, and a device known as a SqueezeBox.I even had a remote for the air conditioner.

I had already read numerous positive reviews about this remote, but after I began programming it to command my equipment, I became utterly amazed at how well designed this remote is.While much of the display is fixed and cannot be changed, you will be supprised at how much forethought was put into this item.Virturally every command found on any of the above remotes is already labeled on the remote. And when that isn't enough, there are four fully customizable labels along the bottom of the display.

The buttons are large, with plenty of space between them to prevent accidentally pressing the wrong button, even in the dark. The labels on the LCD display are small and compact, but very accurate.

All of my other controls demand that I point the control exactly at the device in order for my commands to be accepted. Not this control; point it anywhere you like, the commands will be received.

If your type that actually does have problems programing your VCR, then this control probably isn't for you.But don't worry, the programming isn't really all that difficult.I had managed to get all my components configured in about 30 minutes and was programing the more advanced features shortly there after.

Not supprisingly, all this comes in a pretty hefty package. The device is quite large and doesn't conform naturally to your hand like more traditional controls. It doesn't take long to get used to this caviat, and before you'll know it, you'll wonder how you managed without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars works pretty much as advertised
My multiple - brand and multiple - component home entertainment system needed a dose of user-friendliness so that my wife didn't always have to ask me how to switch between broadcast TV /DVD / VHS. Based on reviews I've seen, this product seemed to be the ticket (macro capability), and the price wasn't too bad.

Programming macros in the RM-AV3000 was a chore, because the user manual is poorly organized, and one has to jump around between different sections of the manual to find out how to accomplish a single task.

For example, to replace a factory preset, you have to first erase the factory preset, then reprogram it: Go to Page 32 for programming info... then, See page 37, then go back to Page 32. It would have been better if the preset could just be erased and reprogrammed in one step.

The same thing happens when you want to change a program you've created - except the procedure to erase your program is different than erasing the factory preset! Go to Page 32 for programming info... then, See page 35, then back to Page 32.

All of this is unnecessarily complicated - but is typical for a lot of home entertainment products. When are the manufacturers finally going to get rid of nonintuitive, nested setup menus? Unfortunately, this product is among the worst I've seen in this regard, and this is one case where you do not want to lose the user manual. Thankfully, there is a Quick Reference Guide that takes a tutorial approach and is a helpful supplement to the manual.

It was annoying to find that none of the "JVC" component code numbers supplied (in a separate booklet) worked with my 2-year-old JVC VCR (I have several other, older JVC VCRs, and all the remotes are all interoperable, so there is no excuse for not providing a working code number). Fortunately, the learning mode worked very smoothly. The factory presets worked for my Sony DVD player (no suprise). The optical output of the Sony remote was stronger than the remote that came with the JVC VCR.

I managed to lock up the unit. I tried to program the functions from a Hauppauge WinTV PVR remote, using the learning mode to replace the factory satellite presets (STB) of the Sony remote. The unit seemed to learn the remote codes ok, but pressing the newly-programmed channel up button on the Sony caused the transmit indicator to display continuously, and none of the other buttons responded. I had to pull the batteries (which means having to reset the clock) to get it to function again. I was able to reproduce the problem, and trying to reprogram the unit again didn't solve the problem.

The touchscreen backlight isn't needed in a well-lit room. The touchscreen smudges very easily. Cleaning it is a problem, because applying pressure to the touchscreen activates functions, even if the unit was previously powered off.

The unit has the same form factor to a remote I have for an old Sony big-screen CRT, but has a "heft" that conveys an impression of quality. This makes it a pleasure to handle and operate.

All in all, the RM-AV3000 accomplished what I wanted. My wife can press one button to select broadcast TV, one button for DVD, etc.. And it eliminates the clutter of the other remotes. However, the difficulty of programming it almost counteracts the joy of using it.

I have been using the unit for over a year, and recently had to change the batteries for the first time. I should note that I have the backight set to turn off after 5 seconds, and a longer setting likely would adversely impact battery life. It is a pain to have to reprogram the clock if the batteries are removed; this seems to be an unnecessary oversight in the design.

Pros: Attractive, hefty unit gives impression of quality. Decent signal output, better than many original remotes.

Cons: Display smudges easily. User manual poorly organized and confusing. Codes supplied for other products don't necessarily work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!
Finally have only 1 remote on our coffee table!! If you are like me you probably have 7 or 8 remotes you constantly dig through in order to control your A/V system. This remote will literally eliminate all of them except for your new RM-AV3000. With patience you will be able to program the remote and have it do just what you want. The programming takes a little getting used to but is fairly straight forward after spending some time with the remote. Other reviewers have complained about it locking up which was a concern when I purchased the remote but have had no difficulties in this area. For $80 dollars you can't go wrong with the RM-AV3000. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone system
My son gave my daughter and me this four line V-Tech system. It is great. You can carry one phone around with you while the others are on the bases so you don't have to run to the phone when it rings. We had a cordless phone, but these phones are small. If you misplace one, you can call it and find it by its chirping. Also, if I need to reach my daughter, I can call her through this system. You can store phone numbers, redial, look to see whom you called. It has so many features that I don't think we found them all. This was the best gift I have received! ... Read more
