Where to start...
The electronics in this phone are well substandard.If you're looking for reception, fine, for the brief time your battery allows you to talk.If you're looking for function, you best look elsewhere.This phone's "TONE" setting isn't universal, so when you call the bank and get "Please press one for...",you can press one all day and never get through.It has several programming functions, but you won't actually be able to use them, because the electronics will give out before you can enter information.Yes, you can have a dual 5.8 Ghz phone (that feels really uncomfortable on your ear and difficult to dial), but there are certainly better options out there for less money. Great phone!
Finally a phone that DOESN'T interfere with my wireless internet! It uses a combo of 5.8ghz and 900mhz, unlike some that use the 2.4ghz combo, which will knock out wireless internet.

Range is excellent. Went down in basement and outside all around house and didn't lose the connection.

1 drawback- yeah, you can only use one handset at a time. No biggie here.

Don't Buy It!!!
Who is the Einstein who designed and packaged a two phone system in which only one phone can be used at a time.What is worse...the phone has 0 range and those that you call can not hear you.DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!

Great phone
My first 5.8 GHz went right back because of poor sound quality but this phone is a keeper.Other than more ring types I think these phones are perfect.Great product for a great price.

Crap phone
This is a horrible phone. You get 2 ft from the base and it dies. You walk around the house and it dies. The sound is fuzzy and always static. I returned this days after buying it. Stay away.

Great sound, but you can only use one handset at a time.
Pros:
- Great voice quality; better than the expensive 5.8ghz models which use digital 5.8ghz. While this model uses "analog" 5.8ghz, that can be an advantage as it results in less sound processing and a clearer sound.

Con: (and a big one): You can only use one of the two handsets at a time.WTF?Great if you're the only one in the house; not so great for a family. Great basic phone!
I was recently shopping for a basis, no frills phone.I shopped around around and found that the phone industry is phasing out that type of phone and is concentrating on the phones with answering machines and flooding the market with the expandable phone systems.I went to Best Buy hoping they would have something.No luck until I saw this phone packed in its box on another aisle but not on display.I asked for the price and the employee said $25; on sale because they were getting rid of it to make room for the phone systems previously referred to.I am sooo happy I found this phone!The clarity is crystal clear.The handset is solidly built and carries a little weight, not like other phones that feel as if you can crush them if you sqeeze too hard.It also has rubberized grips on the sids so it doesn't slip out of your hand.The orange lighted display is a lot easier to read than the green or blue ones.If you are looking for a great simple everyday phone (with caller ID) you will not be disapointed with this phone.I would pay twice the amount I did.

Bad sound quality
Everything was fine except when I talked, the person I was talking to heard a humming noise.When I stopped talking, the humming noise stopped.Needless to say I took it back for a refund and bought another brand of phone.

Great phone!
I bought this version of the Uniden, then added the extra handset.You can also buy the TRU8865-2 which would offer the same package.In any event, I've been very happy.Good sound quality, great features, no wireless interference.Not sure if the 5.8GHZ technology is the real deal (I went back and forth between the 2.4 and 5.8 but realized this was the "wave of the future" and so went for it) but the phone is solid and sweet.

Plus features:
Direct link between phones (they function as walkie talkies)
Phonebook sync (from one handset to another)
Baby monitor function (what a great idea!)
Message waiting indicator light (rather than displayed on handset)

GREAT PHONE!
I have to say I really love this phone... no problems what so ever. The distance is great; we haven't had any problems with reception within the house or outside it. Nice display with caller id. Buttons work great and the phone fits nicely into your hand.The only thing that I do suggest is that you do read the description...Extra Caller ID Handset and Charger Included, it means as well as the base set wiih caller id, you also receive the handset and charger.

Don't buy it and be careful of other unidens
I bought this phone earlier this year because I needed a caller id phone and have been very unhappy with it.I read all the Amazon reviews, saw the great 5 star ratings as well as the complaints.I should have taken the complaints more seriously.All of them are true for my phone.

The reception is terrible -- every time I use it, the person at the other end hears static and my words get cut off.The battery gets low in 2 days and gives only about a one minute warning before it dies. Ergonically, it's very tiring to hold.Even at the highest volume, I have to strain to hear the other party.

I have a very old panasonic 900 mhz phone that works far better.I can talk for at least 5 minutes on a low battery notice and the reception is very good.If I pick up the uniden phone to answer, I have to switch to my panasonic if the conversation is longer.I only use the uniden phone to see who is calling and seldom actually use it to talk to people.

I am currently shopping for another phone and will make sure that it's not a Uniden.

Dead Phone
I thought the sound quality was decent.However, the phone stopped functioning after less than a year.I changed the battery but to no avail.

Ultimate drop-test
I was cleaning windows, THREE floors up, had this phone in my back pocket. Accidently bumped it from my pocket and it hit the pavement. It is still working just great. This has to break all
drop-test records. Go Uniden!

Much worse than any cordless phone I've ever had
This phone cuts out only 2 rooms away from the base station.There is static noise, and callers on the other end complain about sound quality.I can't go into the garden, which used to be no problem with my old 900 MHz phone.

Best phone I've ever had
Not only is this phone beautiful, it has exceptional sound clarity. Of all of the electronics I have purchased, I have rarely been more satisfied than I am with this Uniden. Some thoughts:

-Inset keypad is sturdy and won't go bad
-Easy to change volume on earpiece
-Speakerphone is not bad at all, I've used it many times in a crunch when others need to listen-in. Don't expect the other party to hear crystal clear sound but YOU will hear them perfectly.
-No distracting echo or buzz even though the base is next to my fridge and microwave.
-Speed Dial is needlessly confusing, so if you really value speed dial be sure to test the phone in a store. I'm an electronics whiz and I am befuddled by why speed dial is complicated here.

Great Phone, but I wish...
Yes this is a great phone.I have had it for about a month and I am using it with my Packet8 VoIP.It works great and the sound quality is perfect.

The handset speakerphone works great but I wish it could be louder.

The images on the color LCD display are not very good.It has 8-bit color so there is that problem but the resolution is not that great either.You need to stick to very simple pictures if you want to be able to make out what they are.Downloading pictures to the phone was really easy and managing what is on the phone is really easy too.There is a set of pictures built into the phone that cannot be deleted - I wish they could so that I could put more of my own pictures on the phone.It would be nice if the phone had more memory.It can hold 50 numbers each associated with a picture and a distictive ring.Its cool when someone calls and a picture of the persons comes up on the LCD.It is really easy to setup and use but I do wish it had more memory.There is no way you can put 50 pictures in the phone AFAIK.

The phone feels great in you hand and is loud enogh that you don't have to press it against you head to hear well.The keypad lights up so it is easy to use in a dark room.

I am pleased that I bought this phone.I would say that this is probably the best phone in its class right now.The next generation of this phone is probably going to make all of the distracting things I have mentioned go away.

I like this phone and will probably be buying extra handsets for it soon.

Feature-rich yet simple to use phone
The i5857 is a joy to use: loads of features, but insanely intuitive and simple to use. The documentation is probably the best I've seen for any product in the last decade. One of the main reasons I wanted this phone was to record a custom ringer (of a temple bell) and it took about all of about 10 seconds with the included audio cable. Highly recommended.

This MUST be the BEST phone there is!
Wow! Am I happy with this thing! I was put-off by the pictures on the box, but after I bought it and played with it for a while I fell in love. SUPER intuitive for a geekie kinda' guy, the GUI is GREAT! The ONLY way to make it better would be more control through the USB connection. And maybe more color in the display (it's 8 bit color pallet). Then I guess it would need expandable memory too? <grin> ... Read more
