5-0 out of 5 stars best ever for sound and range - period
I have yet to find a another digital cordless (new or old) that is as clear and range receptive as this one. It's the only phone I can take with me across the street knowing I'll be able to take a call and make intelligible conversation. It's been dropped many times over the last 4 years and still it keeps "ticking" perfect. God how I wish Uniden could make a new phone with same sound quality and range as this one. They don't and it makes me sad. Long live the EXS9600.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone but lacks a mute button
Great phone, good reception, good range. Durable, easy to use, reliable.

Would be nicer still if it also had a mute button and a lighted key pad for use at night.

Still, this is the best cordless phone I've owned.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sound quality great but the rest was horrible.
I was very impressed with the sound quality and lack of interference, but the constant trouble with just turning the phone on caused me not only to have it replaced once but canned in the long run.The performance was finethrough 2-3 weeks but after that both phones I recieved would not turn onwhen you hit the "TALK" button the first time.It usually tookabout three times before it would actually work.Needless to say this wasvery annoying. This is my second bad experience with a Uniden phone.Takemy advice, pass this one up!

5-0 out of 5 stars Top-notch phone!
I highly recommend this phone.I've experienced no static and great range.I especially like the belt clip that can be attached to the phone. This phone has a lot of extras for the price.I had purchased a Sonycordless DSS phone earlier, with less features than the Uniden EXS9600, formore money. The Sony was terrible. It experiencedstatic and keptcutting out.I couldn't even carry on a conversation on the Sony.TheUniden EXS9600 is easy to use and can be stored in the base unit eitherface up or down.

5-0 out of 5 stars love this phone

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
This is a great phone. It is wall-mountable, has crystal-clear sound quality, and has a space for an optional battery-backup in the base for use during power failures. The handset is comfortable to speak on, though a bit on the large and heavy side. The battery lasts a long, long time.If it runs out, the optional battery in the base can be swapped (it keeps that one fully charged at all times).

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE -- I BOUGHT TWO
This is a great phone with great features:

It is a two line phone, with an easy way to switch between lines, put one on hold, and even connect the two.If you have call waiting on each line you could connect up to 4 callers.

Caller ID is real handy.

The visual display makes it easy to see who is calling or called (even if you don't answer the phone)the numbers stay in memory and you can transfer the number of somone who callsto your list of names and numbers in memory if you want.

The phone can charge facing toward or away from you on the base.

The base acts as a speaker phone.

It has clear reception over a good distance the the 2.4 gig spread spectrum means your calls won't be intercepted by someone with a scanner.

I have two of these phones and they don't interfere with each other.

The battery charging system is great since there is a room to put a battery in the base as well as in the phone, so if the battery runs low while you are on the phone, just exchange the battery from the base with the one in the phone and you are back in business with a fully charged battery.

The phone beeps a warning when the battery is getting low and you can excuse yourself from your caller for a minute when that happens to change the battery.

The battery charge lasts a long time so this is n't likely to happen unless you keep the phone uncharged for a long time (which I do to extend batttery life)

There is an intercom feature that makes it easy to find the handset if you misplace it by hitting intercom on the base unit and it will ring on the handset--so you can find the phone.

The screen in the handset makes it easy to set up the phone for frequently called numbers and to scan thru your list.

There is a jack for a handsfree headset, and a clip you can use to put the phone on your belt or shirt pocket for hands free operation.

The base can function on top of a desk or table or be installed
on a wall.

In short this phone has all the features you might want for a home office, and is reliable to boot.

I love this phone so much I take it with me whenever I travel. You won't go wrong buying one--or even like me-- two of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value
I am very happy with the Uniden EXS9660 phone. The reception is very clear and the range is excellent. It is easy to use and I like that it has a compartment for an extra battery and that it accomodates a headset. (Ibought the $10 AT&T headset recommended by an Amazon customer and amvery happy with it as well.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Best 2-line cordless available today
After much research I first bought the VTech 2910 locally. Experienced frequent drops signals 60 - 70 feet from the base (indoors). Bought the Uniden 9660 and now I can go at least 200 - 250 feet from the base (indoors - outside) with little 'clicking' and no dropped signals. BIGdifference and well worth the extra $. The Amazon price was also the bestprice that Ifound. Handset is comfortable and it contains all thepractical features that I need.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
Very functional to use with good range and clarity. The headset jack is it's best feature allowing freedom of movement.Battery life is short but there is a charger slot on the base for a second battery.Howeverreplacement batteries for this phone are hard to find other than directlyfrom Uniden.

I plan to buy another but I have been looking for a merchantwho also stocks a spare battery. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Old ones are better
When Uniden introduced this phone years ago, I purchased it and was very please with the unit. Uniden was one of the first companies to have a backup battery in the base so the cordless unit can continue to work even with power outages. This phone performed well until one day, my wife accidently left the phone on the roof of our car. It did not fall off of course until I reach 50 MPH on the highway. I saw the phone bounce and come apart in my rear view mirror. We U-turned and I picked up the pieces. Only the battery cover came off and the battery popped out. No one seemed to run over the phone, battery yes. When I put it back together it seemed to work because I hit talk and it displayed talk but, we were of course too far away.
I got home that night and it worked. Now that is a tuff phone. I ordered another battery from Uniden and got another year and a half out of it before it began to act up.
So I tried, real hard to replace the phone. I wanted one with a speaker phone in the handset. Only 2.4 and 5.8 were available and none of them got the distance the old 900 DSS got. None were as clear. When I contacted Uniden to maybe get a refurbished one, none were available. I tried V-tech, other Unidens, Panasonic, ATT, none worked more then 300 feet away. Even Consumer reports tells you that the 900 MHz DSS gets the best distance and clarity.
I finally saw my old model throught Amazon, ordered it, got it and we are back in business.
This phone goes easily up to 1/4 mile plus from my home. I took the new phone, put it on my old base, the system reset itself and it worked. I decided to use the new base with the new phone.
Now I am looking for the older models with the keypad on the base and the single unit 900 MHZ DSS units.
In short, the newer 2.4 GHZ and 5.8 GHZ is a step backwards to me. They claimed you get distance but, no way. Maybe someday, they will improve their technology so one can be more then 300 feet from the base.
Thanks for reading this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Uniden EXS 9800
Good reception, nice features, but poor digital recording playback quality.Microphone finally gave out after 1.5 yrs and decided not to buy another Uniden with this technology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great price! Great feature set. Great value.
My minimium requirement was a Digital/900MHz SSP phone, with digital answerer. All similar equipped phones sell for $100+ (i.e. Sony, Siemens, Panasonic). I considered the 2.4GHz, but that wasn't a requirement (for me).I recommend you look into the security associated with a SSP phone, especially as a ham-radio buddy showed how easy it is to"listen-in" on cordless phone coversations!

The EXS9800 hasworked great, as I've had it for one week now. The speakerphone was likea freebie, compared to other mfg phones.Frankly, the next best price forthis phone was [more than the price on Amazon.com], which I could find on the internet, so kudos to Amazonfor the GREAT price! The "beep" is fairly loud, but my phone isin my family room, so that's a "non-issue" for me.

Every phonereview (here on Amazon) had their supporters and naysayers (including thisvery phone, which is pretty obvious if you're reading this). It reallyisn't clear which phone mfg is best, as they ALL seem to have had badexperiences with buyers, ymmv.

My 2nd choice would be the Siemens 2415(2.4GHz SSP)...;becareful, though, as there appears to be a large number of"refurbished" units for-sale, which imho must be indicative ofbad quality-control (or something like that, ymmv).

Good luck.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lot's of features, but a few issues as well...
This is a good phone... could have been a great phone if it weren't for several annoying problems with the design. There are many great features to this phone, but you can get info. on all of them from the productdescription or from the Uniden web site. What they don't tell you I'vewritten below.

I've had this phone for about 9 months and I've overcomemost of it's issues. The range for this phone is nice (I've taken it downto the park which is a 1 1/2 blocks from my house). The issues I stillstruggle with are as follows:

First, the "talk" button is aproblem. It's large and easy to depress.Anyone with a cheek is bound tocut off their colleague, family or friend mid-sentence when positioning thephone between your shoulder and your ear.

Second, the base has aspeakerphone but no hold button. It's easy to answer the phone when youcan't find the handset... just remember that you have to hang up the baseafter you have located the handset. As an added bonus, if you bring thehandset too close to the speakerphone with them both on, you will get theJimi Hendrix Experience.

Third, there's no hold or mute button on thehandset. The hot item on the other end of the line WILL hear that toiletflushing if you aren't careful.

Fourth, Call Waiting Caller-ID is nice, but saving the number is a pain because you have to add a 1 for longdistance numbers. When editing the number, the additional digit can't beinserted, so you end up re-typing the whole number again.Like I said, nice.

Fifth, sound quality for the answering device is pathetic.MaybeUniden was trying to make a nostalgia play by making the answering systemsound like two tin cans and string.

Those are the big ones.I got aheadset to deal with the hands-free issue and the other issues I just livewith.Overall, I think there are better phones out there.

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD SOUND QUALITY EXCEPT FOR ANSWERING MACHINE
THE BASE IS VERY AWKWARD AND BULKY. SOUND QUALITY IS GOOD BUT THE ANSWERING MACHINE SOUND QUALITY IS TERRIBLE FOR INCOMING AND OUTGOING MESSAGES.THAT'S THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything It Claims To Be
As long as you don't need features such as Caller Id, this phone is everything you need.Excellent clarity and range--Uniden 900DSS is equal to or better than all 2.4G phones I've sampled (ATT, IBM, V-Tech).Compared with the 2.4G phones (and just about all other phones), this phone is a great value.Everything works well--and this is one of the few handsets with a mute function. My current Uniden has held up well.I expect this one will as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent for the Price
Just bought this little 900 mhz phone with Digital Spread Spectrum.Ilike the clarity on both ends of the line. The size is more comfortable tothe hand and shoulder than the V-Techs at comparable price and features. Ilike the extra space for storing and charging another battery. Only timewill tell with any relatively inexpensive cordless, no matter what thefeatures or the brand name. Good Luck!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Spen a little more on a phone
Uniden overall makes fine phones..........just not this model.Iget alot of static in the phone. It's like my cell phone, I have to keep turning my head to get clear reception.SPEND A FEW DOLLARS MORE GET SOMETHING ELSE.

2-0 out of 5 stars I agree with the person who called this phone a hockey puck
When we purchased this phone it worked great for the first six months. Now the base unit will not charge the battery (or the replacement battery). If you unplug the unit, then plug it in again - it will charge for a couple of seconds and then stop. This phone is a complete joke.I have the backup puck for anyone who was interested.I will never buy another Uniden phone!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for hearing impaired
For years my father, a senior citizen, has been able to hear out of only one ear and uses a hearing aid because that one "good" ear works at only 30%.For the last few years he's used a VTech phone; however, every time he would put the phone to his ear his hearing aid would whistle. He would always have to turn his hearing aid off to stop that annoying sound. This solved the whistling problem but then he couldn't hear very well because the phone volume wouldn't go high enough. This Uniden is Great! The best thing is that the earpiece is smaller than that of the VTech and does not cause his hearing aid to squeal, so he can keep it on while talking. Not only that, but it has 4 volume settings (Low, Medium, High, and Loud). My father uses the "High" setting because "Loud" is too loud for him. I don't know if all hearing aids will respond the same, but it's certainly worth a try.I assume that all other Uniden phones with similar earpieces would work the same as this model. Thanks Uniden

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, Bought another.
This is one of the best cordless phones out there at any price. I have owned dozens over the years. This is such a good phone, with so many useful features, I just bought a second one. One on the main floor, one on the second floor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone but...
I looked at alot of phones before I bought this one. This is a great phone!Excellent clarity.Great range.Nice features.Fits nicely to your ear.Is not to big or too small. The only complaint I have is, it is too easy to accidentally hang up on your caller. This is because the buttons are too close to your face when you hold the phone with your shoulder.Other than that, I highly recommend this phone. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The V-Tech VT1922 digital cordless phone brings together 900 MHz digitaltechnology, caller ID with call waiting, battery backup, memory dialing, andmore. It offers high performance cordless features at an economicalprice.

Before testing the V-Tech VT1922, we charged it for the recommended 16hours. An additional handset battery (not included) can be charged in the baseso you will always have a spare. The sturdy handset has an intuitive keypad andrubberized buttons that are comfortable to the touch. Separate buttons controlanswering and hanging up, which we found unnecessary. Other basic functionsinclude memory, redial, mute, and hold. A handset locator button on the baseallows you to find your handset from anywhere within hearing distance.

Up to20 numbers can be stored in memory. We were easily able to perform this functionusing the lighted, two-line LCD and the program button. To save a number, wesimply entered it on the keypad and pressed the program button. The LCD asked usto choose a location and we entered a two-digit memory location (between 01 and20) A pleasant tone confirmed our successful programming. Then to dial thenumber we simply pressed the memory button and entered the location number.

Ifyou subscribe to caller ID with call waiting, these functions are also performedusing the handset and LCD. Up to 50 names and numbers can be saved in caller IDmemory. To view the information, press the CID button on the handset, and theLCD will display the most recent call received. Press and hold the 7 (clock)button to view the time and date of the call. Press the scroll arrows to viewother calls. A delete button on the handset makes it easy to erase individualnumbers, or you can hold the button for two seconds to delete the entire CIDmemory. The handset can be positioned faceup on the base for convenient calleridentification.

In our tests of the VT1922, we were able to use the handset upto 100 feet from the base. Between 100 and 500 feet, the static was somewhatdisruptive, but we were still able to maintain conversation without losingtransmission. Despite the adjustable antenna, we noticed some intermittentstatic at close range. However, when we used the handset outside and behindwalls and doors, the signal remained strong. --Emily Bakko

1-0 out of 5 stars NIghtmare
Breaks up, rings after all other phones stop ringing! What a nightmare-get a Panasonic 2.4 gig, this phone is horrible. I have had other Vtech's and liked them, but this one is junk!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ameritech sells same model.
I bought this phone and it works just fine.I have been all over the house with it and have not experienced any static.I have not even had to extend the antenna.I was shocked to see that Ameritech sells this very same phone! The only drawback is that you cannot see the time and date of a call unless you press the 7 key when the name and number are displayed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works for me!
I have had two of these beauties and am looking for a 3rd. It is the best, yet simple, cordless with CID I have used yet.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice features bad sound quality
I was prepared to exchange this phone for another - but having read thereviews it seems I'm not alone in believing the phone has poor soundquality with the handset.Call ID seems to work fine as do the two lines... I also have a Uniden 900 Mhz spread spectrum phone that works muchbetter - features aren't as nice on the Uniden, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars not recommended
I got this phone mostly for the brand name reputation of durability andfor the optional headset. No problem there.

However, the phone lagsbehind the others in the house when a call comes in and the sound qualityof the handset sound terrible. As far as caller ID, I cannot comment.Ido not subscribe to that service. ... Read more

Product Description

From the company that re-invented the telephone, you get a technology that provides a difference you can clearly hear. VTech VT 1930 is one of the most sophisticated cordless telephones on the market - from the world leader in cordless telephone communication! The phone has been designed to offer a new standard in cordless telephone technology. Unlike most other cordless phones, VT 1930 digitizes your voice using advanced ADPCM digital voice coding to provide noise and distortion free performance. In most conditions, you will not be able to tell you are using a cordless phone. Gone are the annoyances of static, interference and having to listen to other people's conversations on your cordless phone. VT 1930 scrambles your voice before it transmits it. This allows you the security of knowing that no one can tune in and eavesdrop on your conversations. VTech VT 1930 decodes and displays name and/or number Caller ID information where available and when subscribed to. The alphanumeric display can show both the name and number of the calling party. With this phone, user can easily answer a call by pressing any key other than the Off, Mute or Volume keys. In addition, the handset keypad and display illuminate while the handset rings to signal an incoming call. This is very useful in a dark environment. VTech VT 1930 also provides a two-way intercom/handset locator function. The phone uses special memory in both the base and handset which is not susceptible to power failures. This provides permanent storage of all memory dial numbers, Caller ID information as well as the base and handset security codes. VTech VT 1930 informs you when another extension is currently in use on the same phone line. The phone will also alert you when you are out of range, even when you're not using the phone! ... I've owned a VTech 1930C for the past several years, and it is still in service and working flawlessly. Recently I decided to add a second cordless phone to my home, and got the very spiffy looking VTech 2461 2.4 GHz model. Alas, the sound quality was not as good! There were assorted hisses and hums, especially when used with a headset. The 1930C had spoiled me into thinking that cordless phone transmissions always sounded near perfect. So, thinking that the problem may be the 2.4 GHz technology, I browsed at VTech's current lineup of 900 MHz phones. Overall, the quality of construction just doesn't measure up to the 1930C.

1-0 out of 5 stars Almost a good phone
All features are very competitive and complete BUT the handset volume is absolutely unacceptable.I tried 2 of these and they both are almost useless.I have 4 other Vtechs models with no problems.Vtech company has givin me no recourse or satisfaction to where I would be very hesitant to buy another one of their products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Phone for a Great Price
I just received my phone last week, and I love it. When I first saw the price I couldn'tbelieve my eyes, because the actual retail price is well over $150. Don't wait, get it while they're still available ! ... Read more

VTech's VT1962 is a 900MHz digital cordless phone/answering machine combo specifically geared for consumers who subscribe to Caller ID/Call Waiting service through the local phone company. The phone is equipped with digital encryption for increased security. The digital answering machine component provides 14 minutes of recording time and allows remote access for checking messages when you're away. The Caller ID/Call Waiting feature includes a 50-number call log. Incoming call information is displayed on the backlit LCD. Other features include a battery back-up system for maintaining memory settings during a power interruption and an intercom/handset locator for quick retrieval of a missing handset. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good phone
Ok, I agree with some of the reveiws, but I had mine for four years. It has been from Hawaii to Pennsylvania, dropped by drunk friends, sat on for 3 hours (during wrestling pay per veiws), thrown at various people and animals, beer spilled on it, slammed in angry rage fits on the cradle just to name a few (I am not a lush but was in the Army). It finally died just a day ago. Loud beeps, oh well!!I liked it so much that I am ordering another from Vtech, I hope it does me as well as the old one!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars It didn't work for me
I expected Vtech to be a better product.I've had nothing but problems with reception to low battery indicator after owning it for less than 9 months. The company was good enough to replace it once, but then the battery went out shortly thereafter, it was replaced and took about 2 days to charge.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good phone that lasts
I have had this phone for over a year and have had no problems with it. I mainly bought it for the spare battery charger which is very handy since this phone is in use a lot. The mailboxes are very handy since I really don't need to listen to my (adult) childrens messages. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I don't even need to extend the antenna on the phone to get clear reception. I agree that the base ringer is loud, but I also turned it off. The handset ringer is loud enough for me to hear anywhere in the apartment (unless it is in a room with the door closed). I would recommend this phone to those that don't need to have their phone too far from the base. For apartment dwellers, this is a perfect cordless phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great phone
I have read the other reviews for this phone and am surprised. I have had mine several days. Ya maybe the phone makes load beeps when you press keys but compared to most I have used this is an amazing phone. I don't care if it beeps a little, my purpose of a cordless phone is how far can I travel from the base unit and have good reception. I walked over 2 acres outside my house and had perfect reception!! Within 400 feet of the base unit, reception was flawless! I have gone thru several multi ghz phones whose reception was noisy in the next room. This 900MHz phone is a beauty!!! In fact, I going to buy several more and store just in case this one ever breaks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zero Stars! Negative Stars!!!
Bad, horrible, terrible phone.Had this one for six months and the receiver suddenly developed enough static interference to render the phone unusable.I called/emailed VTech, who seemed to go from the assumption that they are the only people on the planet who know how a phone is supposed to work. After getting nowhere with them, I opened up the case and began prospecting for the static culprit....Loose wires, bad solder points, poor materials, I could go on...DON'T BUY THIS PHONE.p.s.DON'T BUY FROM VTECH.Oh, and by the way, DON'T BUY THIS PHONE FROM VTECH!Check out some of the refurbed Siemens or Panasonics...or if you have the cash, buy a new one from the Amazonians ... Amazon.com Review

VTech's VT 1970ci 900-MHz digital cordless phone offers cordless convenience, clarity, and quality. The unit also contains a full-featured, all-digital answering machine.

We compliment the VTech designers on their intelligent, intuitive product, as we were able to set up and use the phone's features by guesswork alone. You control the phone with the 12 buttons and one switch on the base and with the 11 buttons on the handset (in addition to the usual 0 through 9, #, and *). After plugging in the phone and inserting the rechargeable ni-cad battery pack, we pressed the Menu, Select, and Time/Set buttons to set the date, time, number of rings, announce mode, audible message alert, and the base-ringer mode. The VTech's voice prompts helped enormously during this process. Setting the greeting was harder, taking us about five minutes to discover that pressing the Memo button records the message. However, we easily discovered the handset's caller-ID functions without consulting the instructions.

The answering-machine functions were as intuitive as the phone itself. In our tests, we found that the time limit is 90 seconds for the outgoing message, four minutes for a single memo or incoming message, and just under 16 minutes for total recording time.

In our distance test, the handset provided excellent clarity with no distortion or buzzing to about 250 feet, at which point the signal began to cut in and out. The handset stopped functioning at about 530 feet, which is normal for phones in this class.

Given the easy setup and the great signal quality within reasonable distance limits, we give the VTech VT 1970ci high praise.

Pros:

  • Easy to set up and learn
  • Modern styling
  • Great feature set

Cons:

  • Total record time of less than 16 minutes

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad, I've had worse
I really like all the features this phone has to offer. My favorite one is that you can put a spare battery in the base unit and it will charge it.The best thing about this is that if your power goes out, it will use that battery as a power source and you can still use your cordless phone.I'm still looking for another phone that does this.

The problems:1)The screen starts going out one line at a time.A friend of mine has one that did the exact same thing.
2)The antenna bends very easily.I thing mine came loose inside the phone because now sometimes it shuts down to channel search.Especially when someone is trying to call and you can't answer because the phone won't work at all.(This is probably my own fault for letting my one year old get a hold of it.)

If Vtech could fix these problems, I'd buy another phone from them.I've had this one for over 3 years and have never had to replace the battery.

2-0 out of 5 stars it was good untill the stick intena broke
ok i got this phone after i saw my brothers, i thought wow that phone isthe coolest soo i got it for my birthday ,but the one i got had a stick fora intena, what happened was oveer time the intenna started to bend and onday simply snapped off!! no i have a phone with no intena and can now onlygo tto the other room. on monday i plann to buy the panasonic 2.4gig for mybirthday hpefully this will be a sucses and the intenaa wont be a stick

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Features will not make it dependable!
I purchased this model V tech VT-1970ci Cordless phone for my work desk a while back, and I was very disapointed by it.I bought it because of its wonderful feature set, which is vast, and makes it a very easy phone to useand operate.

Here is the bad news though folks. This phone is justunreliable.Sometimes my calls will fade in and out, and it seems likethere is a great distance between me and the person on the other line.Ifyou do adjust the volume the voice just becomes fuzzy and gargled.Isuggest you avoid this V Tech phone, spend about ... more and get a digital900 Mghz phone from Sony.My Sony I have had at home for two years now hasbeen nothing but fantastic.

2-0 out of 5 stars good phone, but the signal does cut in and out
dont get me wrong, i like this phone a lot. has a nice look, lots of features, good range, and is sturdy. but, like a few other customer reviews, i have to agree that during your phone calls, the call will cut inand out. not too much, but the fact that it happens is quite annoying forthe price youre paying. another complaint is that the answering machine isvery garbled- not clear sounding at all. some messages i cannot understandthe name, number or message.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Cool V-Tech
This phone constantly cuts out on me, even when I'm within 2 feet of the base.I have a friend with the same phone and it works fine, but somehow mine is bunk. Also the caller ID display is too big and bulky. If you're going to buy one pray it's not [like] the one I'm returning. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars keypad goes bad after a year or so + Poor customer service
I am very disappointed that after only about a year, the keypad on the handset went bad. I called VTech and they basically told me that I had to buy another new phone.

Guess thats what I'll do...It just won't be another VTech. Very disappointed in the quality and customer service. I will never buy another VTech product again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Customer Service
I bought this phone, absolutely loved it, but when it was just over a year old (just out of warranty), I broke the belt clip. Called V-Tech, they said they couldn't get a clip for it any more. I asked to be bumped up to a supervisor, who nicely said that they were just on order, not in stock, and would I like two when they got them in? I said yes, but two months later when I called, even though they have a record of me as a customer in their system (located by phone number), they had NO RECORD of the previous conversation, and again told me that the belt clip was no longer available.
Nice phone, but I will NEVER order another V-Tech product, because of poor customer service, and being lied to. I have three of their phones, one now has a display that is funky, another has sticking keys. I will eventually replace them with ANY brand except V-Tech, and them write them a letter, telling them why.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this phone
I too was disappointed to realize that this phone doesn't have a line-in-use indicator, and that the backup battery will not power the phone during a power outage. Both features were present on earlier VTech models. Also the speakerphone isn't nearly as good as my previous model VTech 2-line. This phone is a big step back, feature-wise. What really burns me is six months out of warranty, the displays on both the base and the handset are losing segments. The handset is no longer readable, and both displays get less readable by the week. VTech wants over half what the phone cost to repair it, and I'm afraid it will just go out again in a year. I don't recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst phone ever
The sound quality of this phone is awful.Sometimes you hear a dial tone from the other line. The phone cuts out and rings loudly when the other line rings.I wish I would have returned it.I'm putting this thing in the basement and buying a better quality phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't show extensions in use ...
... and the lack of that ability makes this telephone totally UNACCEPTABLE!!! Very unfortunate.

I've had a 2-line 900 MHz VTech for years and was only looking to replace it because the display was finally starting to break up, and it didn't know how to deal with the 10-digit dialing now required in my area.

I tried VTech's spendier 2.9 GHz phone, but returned it because it was too complicated to use and I couldn't read the darn screen ... way too tiny, and absolutely impossible to see in any dim lighting!!!

I decided to revert back to one of their 900 MHz models tonight and was just thrilled when I got the 2931 home. It was an improvement from my old model, because not only did the base have a keypad, it also had a display. Best of all, I COULD READ IT!!! And it lit up nicely. I was SO excited ... for about 10 minutes, until I realized that it will now show when an extension has one of the phone lines in use. How ridiculous is this??!! You pick up the phone and are clueless whether someone else is already using the line! How can it be that a feature that worked perfectly fine in their older model is gone in their newer one??!!

I went to the VTech website, and was discouraged to see that it's not just a defect in the particular phone I bought ... they know about this problem. In their Frequently Asked Questions section, here's what they say for WHY DOES THE LINE IN USE INDICATOR NOT LIGHT WHEN AN EXTENSIONIS IN USE: "The phone you have may not show other phones in use. Some phones will only show Line In Use if that phone is being used. Please check your owner's manual for info on how this feature works. If you phone should indicate Line In Use when an extension phone is in use, this feature works by sensing the line voltage that is provided from your local telephone company. When someone picks up an extension phone, the line voltage drops and the Line In Use indicator will turn on. If the line voltage does not drop enough, the Line in Use indicator will not come on. The line voltage needs to drop 7-9 volts for this feature to operate properly. There is nothing wrong with the phone. You can contact your local telephone company for assistance with this problem."

Grrrrr ... I'm returning this phone tomorrow, and I'm really sorry that I have too, because I love how the displays looks, the big buttons and all of the other features of this phone. Shame on you, V-Tech!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars VTech 2961 shortcomings
I chose the VTech 2961 because I had used the VTech brand before and was pleased with its reception. This particular phone has many features and a great answering machine.Unfortunately, the signal fades during conversation frequently enough to be annoying.I do not recommend this phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars We love this phone
This is one of the best phones we've had so far.Granted, the voice quality has a little static without the antenna fully extended. But, I haven't found any other cordless phone that doesn't suffer from a problem of this kind.

The battery holds the charge well, it lasts a long time away from the base, I can wander over to my neighbors and keep talking, and the physical construction quality is surprisingly good considering the price.I think the Siemens [dollar amount] phone system feels more fragile than this phone.

All in all, I think this phone is a good buy; I'm thinking about buying another one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
Just the facts: A) the handset has a very uncomfortable feel to it, making a long chat very irrating B) I returned my first under warranty because there would be breaks where I heard nothing, the replacement ended up doing the same thing, sounds like you are using a cell phone, the co. blamed it on interferrance but none of my other cordless models do this and they are much older C) The digital answering machine message sounds awful. The message is often garbled and unclear making it sound like a worn out tape model. D) I'm replacing it!

3-0 out of 5 stars VTech 2961 is passable
Two problems.First off the sound quality is low even when the handset is right next to the base.People I was talking to kept asking me to speak up, and I had to say "excuse me" all the time to get them to repeat something I couldn't hear. But the real big problem was: whenever my printer would warm up from powersave mode, the phone would reset!I never experienced that problem with any other telephone or electrical device. So this phone was unusable to me. ... VTech VT 2910 is a two-line 900MHz digital cordless phone with a speakerphone on the base unit. VT 2910 digitizes your voice using advanced ADPCM digital voice coding, providing noise and distortion free performance. It also scrambles your voice before transmitting it between the handset and base unit. This minimizes the possibility of surveillance by scanners and similar devices. VTech VT 2910 is Caller ID and Call Waiting-Caller ID compatible. The handset LCD will display the name and phone number of the calling party, when available. When the phone is not in use, you can easily answer a call on the handset by pressing any key other than the Off or Volume keys. This is very useful in a dark environment. VT 2910 provides one-way paging from the base unit to the handset (very useful as a handset locator), and a two-way intercom between the handset and base unit. The phone uses a non-volatile memory which is not susceptible to power failures. This feature provides permanent storage of all memory dial numbers, Caller ID records, as well as the base unit and handset security codes. The optional battery pack installed in the base unit provides operational backup in the event of a power failure. Calls can still be placed and received without interruption. About 5 hours of backup power is available with a fully charged battery pack in the base unit. VTech VT 2910 informs you when another phone on the same line is currently in use. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
I've had this phone for almost 3 years, and have never had a problem with it. It's very clear and the reception is good, and I am just now replacing the batteries for the first time since I bought it. I would highly recommend this to anyone I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone with good range
I've had this phone for about a year now, and have had no problems. The charge lasts a long time and I can take it throughout my home and yard and hear clearly. The caller ID function is useful when you are busy and not sure if you should pick up the phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars VTech is a no-go
As another reviewer said, the volume is insufficient, even when turned up to maximum. With the slightest background noise, you will not hear the other party.Would try a Toshiba, but reviewers have had battery problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor design
Don't try mounting this phone on a wall. It's very difficult, with one small tab, to get the phone to stay in its cradle. Also, life of nicad battery will be shortened while phone is in cradle, but there is no viablealternative. Phone has poor tone quality and insufficient volume. Also, the$20 rebate offer really expired a month before delivery and did NOT matchsample rebate coupon in promotional information. I am sending thisunsatisfactory phone back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
The phone works great. It has very good features for the price and its range seems to be pretty good as well, even though it's not a spread spectrum phone.I can use it at my neighbor's house across the street withno cut out or static. As far as the rebate goes, the one that comes in thebox with the phone is out Jan 1st 2000, but the rebate on the web page, which Amazon says to view and print, is not out until March 1st 2000 ...
