4-0 out of 5 stars Try to get one not two...
I don't have the two set but I do have this phone.I understand many people are not happy with this phone. But, I can say we have had our own which is exactlly the same only it is one phone not two for about two years. And we talk quite a bit so replacing the battery once is not too bad.I would recommend going to Walmart as they sell this same phone and you can get one phone. It works fine for us and even looks great still. We charge it over night and can get a full use of it all day.I also love the Caller ID fucntion as it still is crisp and sharp.I don't personally have a problem with my phone in hearing on it, yet, maybe they changed something on the dual one.My recommendation, try looking around to see if you buy this phone indivudually we got ours a walmart and a friend of mine also recently got the same phone at walmart so I know they still sell it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable phone
I've been using the previous model (DXI-386-2) for a couple of years, and one of the handset stopped connecting to the base. Giving the going price, I bought this set as a replacement. It is one advantage of having the low price phone: one won't go heartbreak if it stopped working.

This phone set has only basic functions according to today's standard. The multi-line LCD display does help on dialing even if one doesn't need CID. Nothing fancy here and nothing wrong. Note that the two handsets can't be used at the same time for conference, but transfer from one handset to the other is allowed.

The battery life is good. I never measured exact talk time, but it seems to be able to support full-day talking.

The sound quality is pretty good, but there are occasional clicking noise even not too far away. The range is not great inside the house. In theory, this 900MHz phone should work better in obstructed setting compare to higher frequency phones (2.4G and 5.8G). It doesn't fare that well though, for the both model versions I have. In short, it doesn't cover the whole house well for me (noise gets higher when away from the base). The new model also get complains from the other side of the line for soft voice, which was not a problem in the older version. Overall, however, it is acceptable quality and when I say it doesn't cover the whole house well, it does cover the whole (medium size) house, nevertheless. At this price range, I think this may even qualify as a great deal, depend on your expectation.

I have a 5.8G (digital) phone which beats this one on range and noise level, but more expensive. I don't have a 2.4G phone to compare with (I use wi-fi network, so trying to avoid 2.4G).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Phones with a potential problem
I recently purchased these on Amazon 'coz I needed a decent 900Mhz phone and this was the best priced one especially w/ dual handsets. The reviews on Amazon for this unit led me to try 'em out. Worked fine for the 1st week and then I lost dial tone on the voice portion of my phone line while the DSL was working fine. The SBC repair technician checked everything and said the he had seen this particular problem numerous times especially where Uniden cordless phones were involved. He said that sometimes the phones don't hang up the line as they're supposed to even after you press the "End" button. This causes a "short" on the line resulting in loss of dial-tone on the voice portion. After my line started working, the dial tone was lost again the following day (in less than 24 hours) and this time the DSL is also down. I'm waiting for the repair technician to come back to diagnose the problem. If it turns out that the Unidens are causing this, I'm going back to the Panasonics. I like the Uniden look, form factor and price and am hoping they're not the culprits. Will post a followup review once I diagnose this problem completely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phones for the price.
** You can NOT use both handsets at once **

I wasn't aware of this when purchasing the phones. Although it isn't enough of a reason for me to return them, I think it needs to be stated clearly. You can only use one handset at a time.

Otherwise I have been happy with the clarity of the calls as well as the battery life. The caller ID with call waiting is also quite a bonus. The phones are easy to use and the reception is great! Too bad you can't use both at once!

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound with headset
When used with a headset I can barely hear the other person.
Adjusting the volume only seems to increase the sound of the ambient room noise that the mic pics up.
    I'm NOT happy.
I've tried 2 different model headsets. Both behave the same.
The headsets have excellent sound quality and volume on a Toshiba phone I've been using for awhile.
I should have bought locally..... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This phone is great
I purchased this phone because of the waterproof feature. I own
a restaurant and this is the only cordless phone that has stood
up to tough handling. (ie. wet hands, splattering milkshakes, dropping,
etc.)I have had this phone over a year and it still
does the job.The range is not really an issue with me, but there is static
if I take it to my office in the rear of the
building. However, this is not much different than others I have owned.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I wish it had an earpiece
volumn and the words on some of the keys are wearing
    off from constant use.

1-0 out of 5 stars alll i get is static
this phone sucks if i leave three feet from the base all i hear is static i reaaly wish i would not have ripped the box up

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Phone
We started using this phone around Christmas time.So far, no problems, though we use mostly outdoors and around the hot tub (I haven't tried to see just how waterproof it is).I don't have any complaints.Sound is loud both on earpiece and on the other end.The distance is fine--we live in a large 3 story house and we haven't had any problems with reception within it or outside it.Nice display with caller id.Buttons work fine.I wish all phones could be made this rugged.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tough phone, with poor sound quality and poor range.
Just got one of these in the hope that it will survive my three kids, they go through phones pretty quick. This seems to be a very rugged phone, so should last a while. Unfortunately the sound quality is poor and the range is just barely able to cover our small house. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the Plantronic CS50
Just got my new Dell Computer and my new Plantronics CS50 headset. The instructions were slightly confusing, but after I got through the technical mumble jumble, it is heaven. I love my head set, its cordless the range is awesome and there is absolutlely no static. The only thing I would recommend would be the option of connecting it to music wirelessly, or even the speaking on my computer. I would love to have this at home, in the car, everywhere it is sooo comfortable. Now that I'm using my cordless headset I really resent having to pick up the heavy receiver on the phone. When the music option is available please let me know, I'll be the first in line.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good & Bad
As much as I like the phone, I have only small complaints. The Key pad is extremey small, hard to read & the keys are the same color as the battery pack unit, so they are very hard to see.Big fingers may press multiple keys at the same time. Also the belt clip to me is worthless unless I stand the whole time.As soon as I sit or bend at the waist-boom the phone is on the ground or on the chair.

Over all-I like it very much & use it often.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best from Plantronics
I'm a huge Plantronics fan. Their products and customer service are first-rate. This phone, though, is sub-par.Mine, at least, discharges too quickly; loses its speed dial settings when it discharges; has poor, staticky sound; and doesn't charge reliably on its stand.I recommend paying a little more for the CT-12, which is very good.

    2-0 out of 5 stars Plantronics CT10
Plantronics usually makes quality products. This is not one of them. The case is sturdy and headset is ok.The battery is built into the belt clip which is mounted upside down for some who knows why reason? Then I tried it... audio came howling back into the earpiece like an echo, similar to the original cordless phones 20 years ago.Totally unacceptable!!Back it went and replaced with the new Plantronics CT12 and its GREAT!Totally different, regular type lithium battery and sounds and talks great!Well worth the little $ difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not excellent!
The other reviewers are right on.The phone is excellent and I've come to trust Plantronics equipment for home and office. The numbers are fine even if on the small side.My major complaint is trying to keep it on the belt or some place where it won't fall off and hit the ground! The battery replacement I purchased does not fit snuggly on the unit and slips off easily.Reception is fine and I agree with the volume comments of other listeners-adequate, but a touch on the low side.I did have a problem with the first unit and it was replaced with out difficulties.I've had it over 2 years and would gladly give another as a gift although the caller ID feature on the CT12 is nice.I've heard the numbers on the CT12 are even more difficult to use, but for the added convenience of caller ID and 2.4ghz it may be worth the trouble.
The BEEP, BEEP is annoying! But like anything else, accept it and it seems more tolerable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT PHONE!!
This phone is GREAT!! I wear glasses and have low vision, but do not need one of those giant BIG button phones, well this phone is superb, the buttons are big, but not too huge. heck, they look normal size to me, not so teeny-tiny like all the phone makers are making them nowadays lol. and that is what i was looking for. the 2nd plus, is that you can actually cleaarly read the caller i.d. area, it too, is larger. thirdly, as an extra bonus, the audio on the phone is adjustable. i'm not hard of hearing yet, i'm only 49, but do have one ear that is better than the other. well now i can adjust the volume to fit both ears comfortably.all in all, this is a superb phone and i heartily recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It
This phone is perfect for some one who is hard of hearing. The base can ring very loud and lights up as it rings. The reciever also lights up and can ring loud. When you page it the phone blinks. I love this phone. You can even here it ring outside when needed. I plan on purchasing a extra one for my husbands business.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone.Highly recommended!
I recently purchased this phone for my 84 year-old grandmother who is a little hard of hearing and needed a cordless phone with amplified sound. We couldn't be more delighted with this model. It is well designed, easy to use, and the earpiece volume amplification feature works very nicely. The blinking LEDs make it easy to see when the phone rings, and the caller ID has large easy-to-read characters.A great investment for $50. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
This Uniden phone works great for me. I bought one for my country hobby shop and was so pleased that I bought a second one for my city home. Free of static and interference on every channel I tried. The earpiece volume control often comes in handy when it is hard to hear the other person. The phone also works well with a headset. I found all features easy to set up and use. I don't use caller ID, so can't speak for that. I am very satisfied with this phone. I also think it was a bargain for the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For
This phone is terrible. No bargain here. A LOT of static and interference. It even picked up a fax machine! We tried different channels and plugged it into two different locations in our home, and it was just as bad. I have two other Uniden phones and they are great. This phone was a dissapointment, but I guess you get what you pay for. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

The Uniden EXS9966 two-line cordless phone helps organize your busy family or home office. It supports two lines, three- and four-way conference calling, and caller ID with call waiting--all in an easy-to-operate unit.

Before testing the Uniden EXS9966, we charged it for the recommended 15 to 20 hours, which is longer than most rechargeable batteries require. A spare handset battery (not included) can be charged in the base. A laminated quick guide is included for convenient reference to basic phone operations.

In our tests of the Uniden EXS9966, we were able to take the phone outside over 700 feet from the base before detecting any voice breakup. Although the range was impressive, we did notice a slight background humming even at close range, but it wasn't excessively distracting. We were able to take the phone behind walls and near electronic equipment without losing signal strength.

With the additional keypad on the base, the handset and the base can be used at the same time on separate lines. If the handset is already in use on one line, you can use the base station to make or receive calls on the other line. Indicators let you know which line is in use. The controls that operate these features are intuitive.

The sturdy handset has a lighted keypad and LCD. The conference and intercom buttons allow you to add a third or fourth party to a conversation. To add a party to line one, press the hold button, press the line two button, and dial the number of the person you want to include. To bring the first person back into the conversation, press the conference button. A fourth person, at either the handset or base, can also join your conversation.

You can store up to 40 speed-dial numbers in memory. We were easily able to store a number using the LCD and arrow keys on the handset. To dial a stored number, we pressed the memory button, found the number on the LCD, and selected a line. The handset's LCD also provides caller ID information, if you subscribe to caller ID or caller ID with call waiting. You can position the handset face up on the base for convenient caller identification on both lines. The EXS9966 also has a generous 80-number caller ID log. --Emily Bakko

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! It is easy to use and I like being able to see the time without any problem. The phone is sturdy and works great. I don't listen to the radio much but have been pleased when I do. This phone/radio/alarm clock is exactly what I wanted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small and Convenient
Finally, a phone with a reasonably good radio that doesn't spill over the edge of my night table. The setup for the radio is excellent, each control easy to find even when the lights are out.Only one problem--the compartment for the 9 volt battery designed to save your setup even if there is a power interruption, caused a burning type smell for a half hour after setup. So far, no further difficulty.

I think most people will be happy with this appliance.I discarded two previous similar purchases of phone/radio combos after using this one for the last month.

4-0 out of 5 stars Complementary synergies
Phone + clock radio: it may be a rare combination, but it makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day, I'm too wiped out to stay at my desk and call the kids; and for incoming morning calls, I'd rather answer the phone while I'm in bed half-conscious than half dead after taking a header or two while trying to get to the next room in time.

I had hoped to replace my original GE model (26981GE1), which was compact, understated, and effective.Unfortunately, I've managed to lose the phone in my own house (either the cat took it or I brought it up to the attic--like looking for a copper penny in the Sahara). Concerning some other consumers' complaints about the successor, I'll admit I did find the dual alarm feature useful--whether as a backup alarm or an alternate setting on the days when it's not necessary to answer the bell so early.Unfortunately, not only is this feature missing in the "new and improved" model but the successor is a postmodern eyesore compared to the original.

Besides missing the dual alarm, the new model lacks the radio pre-sets (6) of the original and the convenient, finger-friendly controls. Not only are the controls tinier and semi-concealed, but the verticality of the design leads to less stability: pushing on the tuning button, for example, pushes the entire radio away from the user. So what's the overall "gain"?The current model has Caller ID, which may be worth the trade-off for some consumers.

Despite the review below (under January 20), the only difference between the GE2 and GE3 is color (white vs. silver). Otherwise, the sensitivity and selectivity of the tuner as well as the quality of the sound, though a shade below the original model, are quite acceptable.(I tried the Conair model for twenty bucks but immediately returned it because of lousy radio reception and sound.)

All in all, a fairly unique but useful product, though you may wish to attach your own cord to the phone.

[Since writing the above, I've discovered another positive and negative about the unit: 1. the new model has a paging button on the base, which may prevent loss of the phone; 2. the sensitivity of the radio is worse than I originally thought, confirmed by a side-by-side comparison of the original and new models. If you're counting on receiving that FM station that's 50 miles away, this new model may not pull it in.I'm beginning to think the Caller ID and paging button aren't enough to atone for the negatives.Back it goes.I'm going to scour the attic one more time.]

3-0 out of 5 stars G3 model I recieved is not a dual alarm clock
Contrary to what the one review said about the alarm clock being dual alarmed, she must have gotten a one of a kind phone, or she didn't order the same phone as the rest of us.I verified that I indeed did get the G3 model and it is NOT dual alarm. The worst part of this is when you visit the GE web page it says the phone IS in its online User Manual.Oddly, though, the phone pictured in their online manual doesn't look anything like the one in the Amazon.com web page. The one I got looks like the one in the Amazon.com web page.An even more interesting note; I tried to see if I could get this phone directly from the GE web site (which is really Thomson electronics, not GE), there is no option to place this phone or it's twin black one, into your cart. When I inquired with the Customer Service Department via email I was told that since it is not available to add to your cart then they have probably discontinued this model.Strange that they would still have it listed as one of their current product lines.I found it in the products link, not in the technical support area. This whole ordeal is just very strange; I wonder how many different phones were made and given the same model number? It kind of makes me leary now of GE products.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product, But No Dual Alarm
I, too, ordered this clock radio phone (Model 26981GE3) expecting a dual alarm as previous reviews and the product manual (viewed from the Amazon link and the manufacturer's website) both indicated. However, because I liked the other features of this clock radio phone, I decided to keep it.The unit is easy to operate and understand, the phone reception is pretty good (a little occasional static but not bad), and the digital numbers are easy to read. I had recently purchased another brand model that had a 2.4 GHZ cordless phone and the reception was terrible so I returned it. The reception on this phone is much better than the other model I tried and I am happy with this one so far! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for home use
This is the second set I have gotten. This time for my mother. Works well, nice size, easy to set up second phone. Uniden is the only company I can find that gives the option of audible beeping when there is a new message. I wish the sound of the beep could be turned up a little more, but better than just a blinking light. Very happy with my first set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Uniden Unit
So far ive had no problems, Set up was easy, hearing is very clear, no static at all, i love the 2nd handset,Everything was easy to setup on it,and the price was great, alot of other reviews ive read they say nothing but problems, mine is great.
    Thank You!

    2-0 out of 5 stars It's ok....but I'm replacing it
I got this phone thinking it would be great - the extra handset is a nice feature and I like that part.I have noticed that the battery life is pretty short and once when I was talking the battery died and then my phone never "hung up" - so for 15 minutes I was without a phone and could not pick up any phone in the house to use it.This has happened two times and is soooo frustrating, especially since the other phones in the house that are corded could not be used.

You can't use the 2 phones at once so that is a bit of an inconvenience as well. The reception is ok but it has it's moments.I have had the phone for about 6 months so it's broken in and the honeymoon's over.I am going to replace it, it was a nice try to get a cheaper phone but it's been more trouble than it's worth.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best portables I've bought
I've gone through a lot of portable phones, and especially for the price, this is by far the best. The Caller ID doesn't seem to function, but neither did the previous phone on our system. Great sound, nice having two handhelds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, great price
I've had this phone system for a month now & I love it.I bought the 900MHz on purpose because the 2.4GHz interferes with wireless 54g routers & I have one.To date, i'm super impressed with this phone. The sound quality is clear & the extension unit works great in my bedroom (which doesn't have a phone line). The answering system is digital so you get a little distortion (nothing like good old tape) but I can live with that. Also, the battery lasts a long, long time unlike my Vtech which dies out in 2 hours.Overall, I highly recommend this product. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars worst phone ever
Battery is close to dead only after three months. The volume was never good. The worst phone ever bought.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
I started having problems with the battery within 3 months. It is a real dud. I would not advise anyone to buy this phone regardless of the inexpensive price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Update: Short battery life
I rerate this down to 2 stars and suggest buyers look at other models.

Panasonic says the phone's is capable of providing 5 hours of continuous talk time or 5 days on standby per charge. This is not true. My phone is only 4 months old and the batteries now operate at half their advertized life. That's after only about two or three dozen full charge / discharge cycles. Now there's no more than about 2 hours of continuous talk time per charge. This cordless is for light duty use only.

However the phone is very easy to use.The 40 number caller ID feature makes callbacks, editing and storing to its 10station memory easy. The caller's ID appears after the first full ring in the 3 line backlit LCD.

This phone has good audio quality for a cordless,an easy user interface and good transmission range (at least twice that of my antique AT&T cordless). One neat feature I didn't expect was a plug for a headset, which I am using with an earpiece meant fora Nokia cellphone for handsfree use.Another thoughtful feature is the removable belt clip.

Aside from the weak batteries, another (minor) annoyance with the phone is with the half-second delay after pickup for an incoming call before you can actually speak. Otherwise the design and manufacture are typically Panasonic; solid andstylish. Sony makes great phones too but it seems Panasonic's products are generally built a little tougher even if they are not quite as slick.

1-0 out of 5 stars What Battery?
I concur with all comments concerning the battery. What a piece of [...]!Although I don't have this Panasonic model (I have a Panasonic KX TG2215 - unfortunately, a much more expensive model), the battery is equally worthless.I'm on my second (and LAST) battery within a year.I'm giving the phone to my girl friend's elderly mother who doesn't usually spend more than 15 minutes on the phone at a time, which is the absolute outer limits of the in-use-battery charge.I seriously doubt I will ever buy a Panasonic phone again.

1-0 out of 5 stars sucky phone and battery
This phone has sucky performance and the battery life went away fast. Now it hardly keeps a charge. The caller ID takes too long to come up and if I am in my backyard the phone starts ringing way too late.I have people tell me it rang three or four times before I pickup, except that I pick up during the first ring.I am throwing this away. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I purchased this phone as a primary answering machine in my home based on my two previous Unidens that I loved and have come to regret it.It's a flimsy machine with poor audio quality. What drives me nuts is the volume - I can barely hear others, but when I speak I feel like my own voice is blasting my eardrum. If I decrease the volume I have a hard time hearing the person on the other end - increase it and I have to hold the phone away from my head when I speak.Nowhere near the quality of the other (more expensive) Unidens. It was so cheap I didn't get around to returning it to Amazon.Oh well, lesson learned. Now I'm going to buy a Panasonic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dont be fool...
Read the reviews for the Black model. There are more negative comments then the positive one.

5-0 out of 5 stars pleased so far...
After a great deal of deliberation I finally settled on this budget Uniden EXAI 978i to replace an older ATT model that was beginning to get buggy. My wife and I were looking for a speaker-phone model but could not find one that matched our needs well enough.I must say that I have been thoroughly pleased with this Uniden, though.Reception and transmission are both very clear and the unit is very small and designed with a small footprint for desktop use.We do not use the caller ID so I can't offer any insight there, but the digital answering system seems to be quite clear and intuitive. All in all, an excellent value. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone except for one problem
This is a great phone. It had all the features I was looking for -- 2 lines, conf, call waiting, call id, transfer, mute, headset jacks, volume, ringer on/off.The only problem is that you cannot turn off the ringer on the handset. If your talking on one line and another call comes through on the other, it rings loudly in your ear.I called Tech Support and you cannot turn this off -- only to hi or low volume (and 'low' isn't that low).If it weren't for this, I'd recommend it highly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend it
After less than one year, I am shopping for a new phone. The handset does not work anymore.I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem but it wasn't.When I click on one of the lines, there is either no sound at all, no dial-tone or anything OR it is just static and fuzz.

I hope my next phone lasts longer than this one did!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good desk phone!
I bought this phone with the intention of using it in my home office. The caller-id function is very important to me.Unfortunately, the phone lays to flat for you to see the caller-id display or read the keypad. Also, speakerphone volume is really loud, even when turned all the way down.I am taking this phone back.

1-0 out of 5 stars A terrible phone
I bought this phone lastChristmas and within two months the handset quit working unless you bang it on something. It also will not hold a charge. What a waste of money!

3-0 out of 5 stars clear phone
You might not like the price on this, no matter how low the sale is, but you will see it all worth it when it arrives. If you find it hard to hear the other line walking around your house, then I suggest you move. This phone is so clear, when your in the same room with it's charger, it will seem as if you are actully in the same room with your chatter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value!
This is a great combination phone/answering machine; I had it hooked up in less than 5 minutes.Excellent sound quality which is critical for me, as I am hearing-impaired.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good buy
I have had this phone for nearly 2 years and have to say that I am satisfied. The sound quality is very good and the I love being able to page the handset from the base. Great speakerphone but the lack of battery backup bothers me still. A pretty good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great durable phone
I have had this phone for a good 5 years.I have dropped it countless times and it still works excellent!
    Great phone - Great price.

4-0 out of 5 stars last longer than other phones
I have had this phone for about 3 years going on four.. I bought the phone for the range. And at that time that was the highest range now they have 5.3 I believe.. Anyway the phone still works like a charm.. I have another phone in the living room and Panasonic and quiet frankly I am not happy with the phone.. But my Sony takes a licken and keeps on ticking.. The battery doesn't run down as fast as the other phone. And I can leave it off the base for more than a day with out having to charge it up..

2-0 out of 5 stars A disposable phone for a throwaway world
This product functioned suitably while it lasted. Unfortunately, it was only about 18 months. I replaced the Nicad battery twice at a cost of almost $20 per pop. And yes, I DID run the battery down as recommended and did not have it constantly on the cradle. The sound quality was relatively good and the ability to page the handset from the base was nice. The speakerphone was also relatively good. A huge complaint-No battery backup. Everytime the power went out, everything-remote access codes, basic settings and OGM had to be reset. I generally love Sony products. Not this one, however. I am still looking for a replacement. The handset is completely dead-not the battery this time. Save your money. ... Read more

Low volume and no headphone jack.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unusable, but perhaps so due to 802.11b wireless and apptmnt
The phone was unusable due to high static, yet it might be because of the number of wireless data networks around my appartment. And yes i did charge the battery for 24 hrs before use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Range, Incredible Value
Tried this phone for $10 because of the poor range of our Unidens and really lucked out. This thing will work over 300 feet away! The Unidens start breaking up at about 30 feet.

Other Pros: Good sound, single Talk button, 900MHz won't interfere with wireless networks, stands on its end, wall-mountable, very solid construction.

The only minus is that it doesn't auto-answer when you pick it up from the charging station, something that would only be useful if it had Caller ID. But the large Talk button is easy to hit and the phone hangs up facing the wall so you don't have to flip it around like many of the other brands, most of which are no longer even wall-mountable.

The ringer can be turned off but is not adjustable. The default tone and loudness are fine, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for several reasons
I bought this phone for my parents who are older (70-80)
The two features that prompted me to buy it are:
    1. One combination talk and off button. My parents previous phone had both a talk and an off button and many times after a conversation, they would mistakenly press the Talk button instead of the Off button, effectively leaving their phone off the hook, sometimes for hours.
    2. Prominence of the volume buttons. When one person needs greater amplification than the other this gets adjusted often.Visibility of this control is important.

After they received the phone the curved hourglass shape made it easier to hold.
Additionally, the black numbers on translucent buttons made them easier to see.Strangely enough this was better than black on white when compared to an old phone they had.

Time will tell though if these rubberized buttons will have the numbers wear out however, as a previous phone did.

The only negative and it was one I was aware of prior to purchase, is that you cannot answer the phone from the base station.Given the price this is not expected.

Given the price overall the sound quality and features this phone have make it an excellent deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great basic cordless phone at a great price
If you are looking for a new cordless phone, look no further, as you won't find a better phone at a better product. This GE product is an attractive, quality cordless phone which provides excellent performance. The phone has a clear, easy-to-read and easy-to-use dial complete with large, lighted buttons. The sound quality is very good; it includes a volume control option as well as other nice basic features such as memory dial and remote phone locator. To top it all off, the phone has a pleasant, distinctive ring tone.Overall, a highly recommended product! ... The fact that this model is digital, helps to secure phone calls from potential eavesdropping. This phone is also Caller ID compatible. A Caller ID memory with dialer for later review and instant callback capability of received calls is also viewable via the handset display. A Direct Dialer button provides "one-touch" access to an emergency or often-used phone number.A Digital Duplex Speakerphone - the tool for multiple party conversations - is included in KX-TC1743B. Digital circuitry helps reduce the echo and dropout commonly found in speakerphones and allows more natural sounding conversations. Built-in all-digital telephone answering systems record up to 15 minutes without the mechanical woes associated with cassettes, and let users instantly hear, save or delete individual messages. These models also allow users to administer outgoing and incoming messages remotely from any telephone with voice prompts to aid the process. Each message is affixed with a time/day stamp, so you'll always know when the call was received. The phone has New Message Playback for listening to newly received calls and a two-digit LCD call counter for viewing the number of calls received. Other features include a lighted handset keypad, dual keypads, and two-way paging/auto intercom for communication between the base and the handset. Additionally KX-TC1743B has hold/flash/redial; call screening and toll saver are included too. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not reliabile
Features wise this phone is OK, but it broke within one year after purchase day.

The sound in the headset became so quite, that you can only hear it in the very quite room, even on the loudest mode.

The phone shut itself down every one or two week and you have to unplug it from the power outlet for about 10 min and then plug it back, so it's start working again.

The speakerphone microphone is not sensitive enough, you can only use it within 2 feet from the base, otherwise other party will not hear you.

The buttons on the headset very hard and sometime is impossibleto press.

My friend also bought Panasonic phone (different model), guess what, it broke within one year too.

I have Panasonic TV, DVD player and microwave oven and they work just fine for a few years now.Based on my own experience and also reading other people reviews, I think Panasonic has a very big reliability problem with their phones and they should address this issue ASAP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone!!!!
In reading the reviews I thought I'd add my 2 cents since I've owned this phone for *at least* 5 years now with no problems. I got online to try and help a friend find a new 900 mhz phone so it won't interfere with her wi-fi. I looked up my phone to check the reviews and it sounds like if you get a good one you love it, a bad one it's not so good. My battery so far has been great though I'll probably need a new one pretty soon as the 4+ hr cont. talk time is now down to about 2ish and I can't leave it off the cradle overnight anymore and hold a charge.

However, I wonder if the problems aren't with the battery itself more than the phone. I say this because I also own another Panasonic cordless phone/answering machine and it has many of the same battery issues mentioned here. Overall though I'd say I'd buy this phone again in a heartbeat -- it's easy to use, the speaker on the handset is wonderful, especially when you get stuck on hold, and the range/features make for a very nice package. I've recommended this phone to others who love it as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars An average model
You get what you pay for. I wanted an inexpensive model with Caller ID and voicemail.
Most of the features are just fine. However, the handset is way too quiet and the battery life is just horrible. It would not let you talk for more than 40 minutes - needs recharging.
(I owe that model for over a year.)

1-0 out of 5 stars I Will Not Buy Panasonic Again
I bought Panasonic, because I thought that it was a reliable company that made good products.I chose a phone which I thought would last for at least a year, but I ended up having trouble with this one from the beginning.I contacted the company immediately to let them know that there were problems, but they refused the resolve the matter.I was so disappointed by their lack of response that I boxed up the phone up and ended up with a vtech instead.

I had a lot of problems shortly after purchase with static, with the phone cutting out, and with the range from the base that I was able to walk.It got worse, and pretty soon I had to stand next to the base to talk.Of course, that defeats the purpose of a cordless phone!

After many calls to the company, which only resulted in a run around, they told me to send the phone in at my expense and they would send me a refurbished phone for an additional $50.I told them at this point I was so disappointed in customer service that I just wanted a refund. The refused to give me a refund, and they refused to send me a label to return the product at their expense.I had paid almost $100 for the phone, and they wanted me to pay MORE money for a USED phone!

Having to pay $150 total plus double the shipping cost just to get a used phone that was "refurbished" was out of the question.I boxed the phone up and left it in my closet. It is still there, and I have avoided Panasonic products ever since.(I have, by the way, decided to purchase a vtech, which has never once given me problems.)I am very disappointed in the lack of customer service, the poor quality of the product, and the unwillingness of Panasonic to resolve this issue. It was a complete waste of my money, and I would not reccomend anyone buy Panasonic. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I bought this phone on a whim without doing my usual product research and boy, have I learned my lesson! Thinking I had found a good deal I bought this phone basically as a second handset (I already have an answering machine). Unfortunately the first time I used it I could barely the hear the voice on the other end and the static was incredible. Since then I've moved things about and looked for sources of interference, but nothing has worked thus far and I've come to the conclusion that this phone is just a dud.

Next time I'll be sure to do my research, and although Uniden has failed me this time, the other Uniden Cordless I use (model: EXAI3248) continues to serve me well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible choice
I had a VTech phone that lasted me 3 years before I spilled water on it and had to get a new phone. So I went out and got this Uniden phone without really researching any phones beforehand. It lasted a couple months before one day, it stopped working. I couldn't recieve or make calls, or get messages on my answering machine. I tried everything the website and owners manual said and called their customer support line and the lady told me to send it to Texas to be repaired (I'm in Virginia). So I decided to just forget about it and buy a new phone. Needless to say, I'm not buying Uniden anymore.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's just OK
I was excited when I saw the price because I'd been looking for a cheap cordless that had an answering machine. I love the answering machine and the features that come with it. My problem is with the headset; it is very hard to hear the person on the other end. I have to have the volume all the way up, but then I have to talk softly because I'll hear myself YELLING and can BARELY hear the person on the other end. I have to be in a quiet room with no kids, TV or dogs to hear and use this phone, and most of the time, that just isn't possible.

1-0 out of 5 stars bought two with same problem
I use a headset with this phone for meeting and both phones that I bought ended up static and the person on the line couldnt hear me cause the hole that the headset fits into is defective. 2 phones in two years and same problem in both of them. I recommend spending a little more for a better quality phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Functional but barely
I bought this because I wanted a cheap no-frills phone with answering system, but it's performed very poorly compared with the one I had previously.Specifically, it's very hard to hear anything on this phone, even with the volume set to maximum.Definitely not worth buying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone
Didn't feel like signing in, soI used a kid's form. Contrary to popular belief, this phone is very good. Most of the myths of the phone are horribly fabricated (long wait to talk, doesn't charge). I've had the phone for six years, and am planning on buying more for the other rooms in my home. I would definitely recommend this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE
I've owned 3 AT&T phones in this line, 2 of which are the 9345 model, the other is the same phone but with the answering machine base and all 3 have had problems within the first 2 years. The screen begins to fade after about a year of regular use, which renders the caller ID and directory completely useless as the numbers become illegible. Contacting AT&T is a joke, as they only issue a standard email telling you to refer to your user manual or the FAQ on their website, neither of which address the fading caller ID screen. The cust service phone number is equally frustrating, as you get only recorded responses and cannot speak to a representative. The final straw with the last phone came when I found that callers could hear me, but I could not hear them. Between the ridiculously short life of its most appealing features (caller ID and 50 number storage) and the utter lack of customer service, I have decided that the quality AT&T used to be famous for is now sorely lacking and I will never purchase another of their phones. Save your money and do some research on other brands!!!

    2-0 out of 5 stars I can't hear you.
I purchased this telephone after a series of Uniden phones that broke after any abuse. We own another AT&T phone that has worked fine for about 10 years so I thought this might be more durable.Indeed it may be more durable but that is not the problem.

My main issue with this phone is that even at the highest volume level I still cannot hear the person at the other end of the phone. Some other problems I have encountered is the programable telephone directory which saves your numbers in alphabetical order. This is fine in theory but if you call someone frequently and their last name begins with a Z, you will spend a lot of time scrolling through the directory. In addition, there does not appear to be any way to call someone back from caller ID if they are calling long distance. The caller ID displays the area code and number and there is no way to add a 1 to the number to return the call.

I think that I would have been better off buying a series of Uniden phones that I could have at least used.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Phone Is Horrible!!!!
I have had this phone for less than a year and have had nothing but problems with it since I've had it.First, it takes forever to answer. Then, it doesn't even charge right. So you put the phone on the charger overnight, thinking you'll be able to use it in the morning....but no such luck because it only charges when it feels like it.The base of my phone is completely useless. At this point I can't get my phone to charge at all. This was the worst money that I've ever spent.I might as well get a cup and some string to talk on!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Most uncomfortable phone I've ever owned
I know that since the break-up of Ma-Bell, nobody takes any time to design phones for comfort or useabilility, but it seems to me that the designers of this phone went out of their way to make it as uncomfortable as possible. I've had it out of the box for about an hour now, and its going right back where it came from. Pass this one by! ... Read more

    Amazon.com Product Description

The VT 1511 wireless headset is a revolution in cordless telephones. Unlike most other digital 900 MHz cordless phones, the VT 1511 is a completely wireless headset telephone--and one with a very unique space-age design. When using the headset, you have complete freedom of movement. There are no cords or cables to worry about, so your hands will be free to keep working.

In addition to the headset, the VT 1511 comes with a corded desk set with a keypad, from which you can access the 20-number speed dial and intercom feature between base unit and headset. It also comes with an infrared remote-control dial card, which you can use to dial numbers when away from the base unit.

The VT 1511 digitizes your voice using advanced ADPCM digital voice encoding to provide noise- and distortion-free performance. In most conditions, you will not be able to tell you are using a cordless phone. The VT 1511 informs you when another extension is currently in use on the same phone line. It also has an out-of-range alert, even when you're not on the phone. Other features include tone/pulse dialing, 10-channel operation with auto channel selection, spare battery charger in base unit, and a hearing aid compatible receiver.

The VT 1511 uses special memory that is not susceptible to power failures. This provides permanent storage of all memory dial numbers and security codes. With an optional battery pack installed in the base unit, the VT 1511 can provide full operational backup in case of power failure. Calls can still be placed and received on the headset without interruption. With a fully charged battery pack in the base unit, you'll have up to five hours of backup usage time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ABSOLUTE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD !
First I must say that I can't understand why they stopped making this phone. This is such a unique product.I am dismayed that it has been discontinued.

I bought my first one on Ebay after having great hearing difficulties. My medical problem actually (at times) distorts sounds on a regular telephone handset... to the point where all I can hear is a vibration but not able to distinguish what the caller is saying.

That medical condition is what prompted me to search for some kind of phone that had dual earpieces and wouldn't distort the voices on the other end.

I took my chances and purchased the Vtech 1511.It actually has been a LIFESAVER for me because I NEED to be able to talk on the phone quite a bit during the course of running my home-based business.

    I LOVE THIS PHONE.

When mine broke / wore out I called Vtech to find out about servicing it and I was told they no longer did since it had been discontinued. I was FRANTIC.

I found another on Ebay and purchased it and was off an running.

Recently I came across one on Ebay and bought it just to put it in the cupboard for when and if I need this phone again someday.

I think I could not live without this product... and I RARELY say that about anything.

It is crystal clear... gives you total freedom... and the fact that the ear pieces don't actually sit "on" your ears was just exactly the type of hearing device I needed.

Like I said.... the BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!

5-0 out of 5 stars These things are great
I really like my Vtech 1511s.However, they are apparently discontinued by the manufacturer. [...]

It's true that they are a weird configuration where all of the stuff sits on your head, but I think it's more than worth it to not have wires everywhere.Reception is good, for me it worked flawlessly to about 50 feet through interior & exterior walls.

The boom mike can break off if flexed by pulling on it repeatedly. That's a problem. But otherwise, this is some very good engineering from what I see as a usually [...] vendor (vtech).[...], but in the case of the 1511 it's really a [nice] unit.

The charger for the headset is inductively coupled; no metal contacts to corrode.VERY COOL!

The small box hides the fact that in addition to the headset, charging stand, and dial pad, you get a full-on desk unit with intelligently done speed dials (unfortunately not in true executive phone style [extra buttons] but intuitively programmable). It's missing a speakerphone, however.

I worked out of a home office for a year doing a lot of phone consultation and sales, and this thing was great.Unfortunately, one of the units' mikes has broken (due to flexion) and now I don't know whether I should scrounge used units or what.I hope they come out with a very slightly refined version of this great product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great at first but thin plastic
There is a real fine thin piece of plastic that attaches the side with the microphone. It easily broke after a couple months of use, which made the headset totaly useless. Yet another headset tossed in the garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I feel like the phone was in excellent condition and the seller gave superb customer service.Any and all issues were handled promptly.I would recommend anyone to buy from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Wireless!! And good sound features.
I'm a mom and housefrau, and I wanted a phone that was truly wireless, with nothing to clip on my belt - that type always falls off or gets tangled or is otherwise awkward for me. When I saw this at a friend's house, I wanted one right away.I couldn't believe it was the only such (truly wireless) model in existence, and that the company had stopped making them ???!!!

Anyway, now I have one, and I am quite (if not 100%) satisfied.

    THE PLUSES ARE:

    1)Truly wireless and hands-free.

2)Relatively very comfortable on my head; easy to wear for a long conversation. (Earphones not directly on your ears, but above them, so it's not only more comfortable, but if another family member leans in close, they can participate in the conversation and still hear and be heard.)

3)Two phones in one; one cordless headset, one corded deskset.

4)Charging base for headset is *separate* from the corded phone base; therefore it need not be near a phone jack, but needs only an electrical outlet. (Great in our house, since we have no phone jack in the kitchen!)

5)Sound quality, range and clarity seem great - we've had it only one week, but so far it's terrific - even out to the garden. No interference; no cutting out, which we had read that others experienced. Sound quality on our receiver is good, and people tell us it sounds good on the other end. Compared to our old cordless phone it picks up WAY less background noise - very important for a cordless, hands-free phone!

6)Good volume control and range. I have hearing loss - need to turn it up! My husband doesn't - likes it quieter.Other phones have not been loud enough for me.This one is great, but see negative #4, below.

7)It's super-easy and convenient to turn on and off by just flipping the microphone arm down or up.But see negative #3, below. Microphone arm also very adjustable to help adjust volume.

8)Price!Because this phone has been discontinued, you can find it at a huge discount. But act fast - they seem to be disappearing (we're trying to get more for friends/relatives).

    THE NEGATIVES ARE:

1)It's easy to lose the remote dialer, or for it to get separated from the headset - it's little and a separate piece.Of course, that's what makes the phone truly wireless, but it would be great if they could have attached it to the headset in a removeable way - I'm thinking about adding velcro, maybe.

2)The remote dialer is almost too small - keypad is tiny so dialing has to be done carefully and precisely, and it's hard to see the commands like "mute", etc.

3)If you want to nibble or drink or make a private comment to someone in the room without the person on the other end of the phone hearing you - you can't get the microphone of this phone very far away from your mouth without turning off the phone and cutting off the connection! But maybe those are bad phone habits/etiquette anyway.

4)Volume adjustment buttons on headset are a little hard to find by touch and awkward to use, but maybe I'll get more used to them over time.

    5)Battery is non-standard. ... Read more
